WorldVision Song Contest 29 - DISCUSSION|OOC Thread

Postby WorldVision Committee » Thu Oct 03, 2013 10:29 am

Since WorldVision 28 is over, here's the signups for the 29th WorldVision Song Contest! Post your national final here. Or, if you don't want to actually post a national final, you can just tell us the title of the song, and the name of the artist performing it and it will be treated as an internal selection.
The contest itself is the same as Eurovision Song Contest. First, all the participating countries post the performance (with lyrics) of their entry, and then, once all the entries have been performed, every nation decides their votes, with the same 1 to 12 points format as used in Eurovision. Everything's the same except that we don't have those silly rules about how many of them can be on the stage, etc.
All songs in the contest must be original. No real-life songs or artists may be entered into the contest, but parodies of RL song are of course allowed. Parody doesn't mean "real life song with some other words" but a song with TOTALLY different lyrics on the melody of a RL song. Also translations of original lyrics are NOT allowed.

Each user may enter, in addition to their main nation, one puppet nation. Master nations must confirm their puppet. Entering more than one puppet may result in sanctions or disqualification. Voting is compulsory for all participants, and failing to do so will result in disqualification from the next contest.

We are having a National Songfestival, the winner will enter WorldVision Song Contest 29

However, after a harsh national city bidding race between Amsterdam, Rotterdam, London, New York City, Los Angeles, Singapore, Paris, Brussels, Bern, Dublin, Athens, Rome, Moscow and Sidney, the winner out of that became Arnhem.

This is their bidding entry to the interdimensional community of Nationstates.

Dajana Durandi

CIUDAD LONGANISA- BGBC has announced the nations representative to Worldvision 29. 19-year old Dajana Durandi, known simply as "Dajana", has been chosen by the 8-member organizational committee. Already a popular actress in Bloodbathian childrens shows, she has recently ventured into music, coming out with three top-10 songs in the past year. Her latest single, already #2 on the BILT Charts, is called "Mi az a Szerelem", or "What is Love". An R&B pop-ballad, its a radio-friendly tune and many hope for a break from the recent string of bad results.

Here's Dajana Durandi with Mi az a Szerelem

Question: Can we reserve entries for next edition? I had an entry in mind for next edition and I really like it.

Should Kaja "Break Your Soul" or "Break Your Neck"?

Ke$ha- Blow

There's just one thing
I can foresee
Now I'm done with you
Go leave with your sleaze

It's time to go outside
For me to fuck around
I'm gonna break your
Finding a new beginning
Throw you upside down

(Chorus excerpt)
I'm gonna break your so-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-ul

Ke$ha- Take It Off

And now I'm getting your face
From the westbound train
Got a hard wooden bat in my murderous hands.
So many ways to kill
For revenge in your presence
And tonight,
No regrets now
No regrets now
No regrets now

(Chorus excerpt)
I will come and break your neck

TG me with your choice.

Yes. Tödlichebujoku returns.

Kdam-Worldvision, literally, Pre-Worldvision is the new show for Kishraeli artists to step up to the plate, and represent their country on the biggest stage in the world, that of the WorldVision Song Contest. This year, a new broadcaster has taken the reigns of WorldVision, that being KBA, and as a result, this new format has been announced today, KBA spokesperson Taliah Kefer saying this: "We've had great success in the WorldVision Song Contest under the reign of KTV, however we felt it necessary to pay the huge fees to broadcast the event, and select the countries entry due to this very fact. We want to give the viewers more power, and so, as the new operators of the Kishraeli WorldVision campaign, KBA will be starting a new national final to select the entrant. At KBA, we want to give people more power to choose the singer and song they want, and so, a mix of 50/50 televote/jury system will be employed, to truly find he best song for Kishrael. We want to bring in some hard hitting names, and we can assure you, Kdam-WorldVision will be a big success.".

Rumored big acts include the return of Perah Kemainah, and a possible entry from former WorldVision winner Tabitha Shamaimah, as well as new acts willing to try their hand at WorldVision. Other established musicians have been invited to submit songs, and it looks like it is going to be a great national final. The final list of songs and singers is below:

01. יצחק ברחוית - רק בשבילך
Yitzchak Baruchiot - Rak Bishvilkha (Only For You)
Hebrew
Melody

02. רנומי - לוחמת גרילה

I really wanted to come up with lyrics to this, but considering the original is a song about how rice is the best thing ever, I don't think I can top its silliness.

KOFEIYAN HOSTBID FOR WORLDVISION XXIX

This is the host bid for Kofeiya. Located on the southern continent of Esquarium, known by Kofeiyans as "Moyo," regardless of language and culture, meaning heart in the lingua franca, Swahili, which indicates that it is the heart of humanity, Kofeiya is an emerging power on that continent, and one of the most modern countries on that continent. Considering a common theory for where humans came from is the "Out of Moyo" theory, Kofeiya has exploited it with a motto in their lingua franca: "Sisi ni kurudi tena nyumbani kwetu," or "We are coming back to our home," since Moyo is said to be the homeland of humanity.

Thus, its capital city (and largest in Kofeiya, at 6,305,000 people out of a country of 42,918,510 people), Varanken, has volunteered, with the Varanken WorldVision Committee (VWVC) being set up on the orders of Congress and President Jemima Joktan to enable this capital city to host the greatest musical competition in human history.

Selected as the capital of Kofeiya in 1876 after a dispute between Novi Bethlehem in Lael County and Arvegihosk in the County of Arvegihosk and (appropriately) located halfway between them, it has evolved to be a major center, not just for Kofeiya, but for the continent, and for black people worldwide. With Kofeiya being an emerging power in Esquarium, and the fact that while there is congestion, and there are some slums, but there are many Western-style buildings and traditional African-esque architecture in the capital, and unsurprisingly, it is a great place to visit. If one plans to stay in Kofeiya for a while, Kofeiya is a few thousand kilometers wide, and it is worth sightseeing from the beautiful savannahs, to the tribal villages, to the majestic mountains along the borders with Bulundia and Mashariki, and other cities in the Delta region of Kofeiya.

Hence, without further ado, let us know more of the city which WV29 will come!

Image
To arrive in Varanken, the Varanken International Airport (IATA code: KVI) is the premier destination. Located about 30 minutes from the center of Varanken (it will take longer on average due to traffic jams), it is the main port of entry for those entering Kofeiya, especially tourists and those wishing to go further south (although Arvegihosk also does that role). Built under Jeremiah Job from 1955 to 1959, with a capacity of five million passengers a year, and was renamed the Ukombozi International Airport from 1981 to 1992 under the rule of Samuel Pumzi and his junta, the State Peace and Development Council, there has been an expansion in 2004-2006 to boost the capacity to fifteen million passengers a year, although sticking with the same architecture. It has one terminal with 30 gates in 1A (the original airport) and 35 in 1B (the expansion from 2004-2006), for a total of 65 gates at the Varanken International Airport.

One can also travel by sea to Ishvi, the major port of Kofeiya and go on National Highway 1 (Luziycan: Nacional Highway Un, Swahili: Barabara kuu ya Taifa Moja, Azena/Basque: Nazionala Nondik Bata), from Ishvi to Varanken (although the paved road ends in Allon, one can theoretically get to Bulundia on that highway) by car, although while it can take you in theory 5 hours to get to Allon from Ishvi, it could take you a week due to the busy traffic. There is also a railway system connecting the systems, and while cheap (only two senti or US$0.04), they are unreliable, and they frequently break down, with most of the stock from the 1950s to the 1980s. It is much simpler to just go by plane.

Varanken has a wide array of buses, operated by competing transit systems, and while the average fare tends to be low (5 senti, or US$0.10), varying types and ages (some from the 1950s are still on the road today), and conditions (some are quite good, especially buses to and from the airport, while others are questionable), some being LHD, some being RHD (though Kofeiya drives on the right), as well as taxis, charging 23 senti (45 cents) and being comfortable for the most part.

Image
Varanken is the major cultural and economic center as well within Kofeiya, and as such, it has the liveliest nightlife in the country, and possibly even Moyo itself. The nightclub in this picture is the "Yarky Nightclub," Yarky being Luziycan (an official language in Kofeiya alongside English) for "bright", and for the duration of WV29, if held in Kofeiya, will be designated as the official WorldVision club, which will mean that from 8 pm to 7 am, the Yarky Nightclub will only be allowed if one is accredited as part of WV or is part of a delegation that is taking part in WorldVision 29. It serves the finest delicacies, from rum from Wijaska Island, to Luziycan wine, to Iglesian spirits, to Geadish beer, as well as the renowned "chang'aa," which at Yarky, it is much better, but some areas could have terrible chang'aa. Either way, besides the alcohol at Yarky, it has a beautiful stage where the finest Kofeiyan singers can do their job, and there are even strippers. You also can book a room at Yarky, where an employee (of the opposite sex, and they will be attractive, don't worry) will come for "some quality time" with you, for 25 senti an hour (50 cents).

However, if nightclubs ain't your taste, there are plenty options, such as a tour of the Congressional Palace, which not only houses Congress (the Senate and the House of Representatives), it houses the Presidency, and all of the ministries, which costs 1 lira ($2) for a tour solo or a group of nine or less, or 10 lira ($20) for a group of ten or more, which was built from 1876 to 1885 (and was the tallest building of Kofeiya until the 1970s), the National Art Gallery, which opened in 1882, and costs 3 lira ($6) for a ticket to view Kofeiyan art, a stunning variety of restaurants of various cuisines from traditional Moyoese cuisine, to Luziycan cuisine, to Iglesian cuisine, to Todlichebujokuese cuisine, and many others, of various ratings (some are unhygienic and poor, while others even surpass the finest restaurants of many nations), as well as theaters (some have 3D, some don't and some don't show films). As well, one can see the busy 'soko' in the heart of Varanken on a Saturday, where one can buy various goods from food, to seeds, to electronic goods, and pirated goods, for cheap prices (remember to haggle). You can also visit the National Zoological Gardens and the National Aquarium, that opened in 1994 and 1998 respectively, although most sections are empty, and devoid of many species (with ticket prices at 1 senti (2 cents) for children, 5 senti (10 cents) for teens aged 12-17, and 10 senti (20 cents) for adults aged 18-64, and 3 senti (6 cents) for those over 65). For those who fall ill and need treatment, the Varanken General Hospital, one of the finest hospitals in the country will provide treatment free of charge to WV delegations.

Feeling all tired from the excitement that is Varanken and the culture? Want to get some rest before the big night? You may want to check into this hotel (in the picture), the Grand National Hotel, located 10 minutes away from Downtown Varanken. The original building (picture from 1976 and enhanced digitally) was built in 1914, by enterprising Luziycans and gave it as a gift to the Kofeiyan government, who politely refused, but gave the designation of the Grand National Hotel, and operated until 1980 under the "White Hotel Corporation" (White Hotel was the proposed name), before it was confiscated by Samuel Pumzi and was shut down in 1981. In 1994, the company retook the hotel and tore the original down due to neglect, and built a new one which opened in 1998. Now a major five-star hotel in Kofeiya, it provides free wi-fi, a safe (not a lot of merchants in Kofeiya take your credit card or debit card, so while there are ATMs at this hotel and the airport, be prepared to spend cash unless if you are at a high-class facility like Yarky), HDTV, free room-service, beds with memory foam, air conditioning, and a free washing machine and drier, as well as a bathroom (with a luxurious bath, a shower (both separate), a toilet and a sink, as well as changing tables for those with young children), with wonderful rooms like this that also provide a majestic view of the Bethuel River, the major river running through the capital. The dining hall is beautiful and is a replica of the original in the old hotel, although it is now a food court (the hotel itself provides gourmet meals as 'White's Cookery', the others are filled by Xavier's Donuts, and McDonalds, and a few locally known joints). It also boats a golf course, a salon, a casino, and it costs 20 lira ($40) a night in an average room. For those who are cheap, one can rent from cheaper hotels, some being a bit good, but many only having a bed and a dresser, and poorly maintained.

Now that we are done with the presentation of the city of Varanken, one will ask "Where the fuck is the venue?" Thankfully, we have one chosen, and it is one of the best places for a WorldVision to occur.

Image
This venue is the restored "Cathedral Theater." Despite the cathedral in the title, and that it was constructed as a cathedral in 1895-1901, it was christened the "St. Luther's Cathedral," but in 1904, a fire occurred that while did not do much damage, destroyed the altar and all the religious sacraments, and was moved to a smaller cathedral, since the congregation was small. After the fire, it was decided to turn it into a national theater, where opera and plays could be performed, as well as concerts. With one of the more beautiful architectural elements, it drew crowds as both Luziycan and Kofeiyan opera singers, plays, and concerts went by. Closed in 1980 by Ukombozi, plans were for the theater to be converted into the headquarters for a future political party that would rule Kofeiya (after the SPDC, which Samuel Pumzi planned to dissolve when the new party is created and a new constitution of a future 'People's Republic of Kofeiya'), and some work was done. After work was halted in 1992 when Pumzi resigned due to impending bankruptcy of Kofeiya, it laid dormant until 2003, when it was purchased and restored, reopening in 2012 with a concert from the band, Yeremia. Despite some modifications, it is more or less true to its original form on the eve of its closure. The Cathedral Theater will also provide an orchestra, the Varanken National Philharmonic Orchestra (created 1924, disbanded 1980, restored 1992) to perform music if so desired, so one will not need to can the music, with an orchestra pit seen in the below image. As well, the gods (the top row of seating) will be transformed into commentary booths (still in a similar style) for those covering WV29, and then after the edition, they will become VIP boxes with a higher price. However, the Cathedral Theater is accessible to the disabled, with modifications so any disabled patrons will not worry of not finding their seats or not being able to enter the theater.

Image
The Cathedral Theater stage will have a screen (where the backdrop is, though it is a bit further than what it seems on the screen since the screen can be moved, and it will be back), that can be used for all purposes, whether to add effects, to display a music video, or for voting (counting the votes and during the voting of a nation, showing a map of the world with the nation voting highlighted in gold, and those already voted in green, those left to vote in red, and those not taking part in gray). The balcony seats closest to the stage (stage left) will be covered in screens for the duration of the contest, to display the postcard of the nation performing and the song being performed and band (alternating every 15 seconds between Luziycan, English, Swahili and their national language), and during voting, to display the votes of the nations (1 at the bottom, 12 at the top). To stage right, the seats will lower a vertical version of the nation being performed. With a huge collection of props available at the Cathedral Theater, you do not need to shop for your ideal prop, for it has a prop for your every need, from beds to chairs to (old) fridges, to a car (from the 1960s), and everything in between, except the kitchen sink (really, there is no prop for a kitchen sink). The floors can also be lit up, and the screens will be LCD, instead of the LED screens, to save cash in hosting the contest. As well, the stage can be expanded to cover 2/3rds of the orchestra pit by moving a slab of wood above the pit, so the stage may not have any subsections, it should be maximized, and big enough for your needs, at 750 square meters. At stage right behind the proscenium arch is an elevator and a spiral staircase that takes you to the greenroom.

Tickets will be a bit high if you are in Kofeiya, around 60 lira ($120), and with a capacity of 7,850 people, although concession will be available (so to get ice-cream, soft drinks, some sandwiches and hot dogs and pizza), which thankfully is hygienic. The theater has air conditioning, which is a bit strong since the weather in Varanken tends to go from 22°C to 28°C, with record highs of 37°C (the hottest temperature in Varanken was recorded on October 28, 1968 with a temperature of 48°C, while another candidate for highest temperature also occurred in Varanken on Oct. 4, 1988 with a heat burst jumping from 25°C at 3:00 pm to 71°C at 3:09 pm, before falling to 35.5°C at 3:14 pm), and with more comfy seats, you should enjoy WorldVision in Kofeiya.

But what do you do if you are done performing or are waiting?

Image
The Greenroom is at the highest floor of the Cathedral Theater and is accessible by stairs or elevator. With wi-fi (password to WV delegations: joktan), air conditioning, free food (with a bit more than the concession and it is delicious), a bar serving fine alcohol from liqueurs to beer, to spirits. It is a bit comfortable, and it even offers a one-way mirror, to the stage so to watch the performance and know when to perform. As well, it has another room that sapient non-humans can enter (if they are larger than a shoebox), which provides the same things but less worry and hassle to those who don't want to deal with non-humans (though humans can also enter if they want to if they don't recognize sapient non-humans as a hassle). Just lie down, relax, drink, discuss past events, plans, wishes for success in WV29 and future editions, why you hate having to host it here in Kofeiya, debate whether whites or blacks are superior than the blacks or whites, whatever, as long as you don't set fire to it. There is also chang'aa, which like the hotel is quite safe. There is even a luxurious bathroom (well, a toilet and a sink anyways), so you don't need to exit the greenroom to use the bathroom. Another room from the greenroom leads to a practice room which is a bit large and a few seats for those wanting to watch others do last-minute practice before they perform.

POSTCARDS

In honor of Kalosia, who hosted WV27, and who sparked the idea of having the host making postcards (I know, revolutionary right?), I decided that I will do all postcards. Just send me a flag (if it is rippled or your IC nation flag is different than your OOC flag that I see on the forum). I will only do the English translation of song titles so to save time, however, so if you did it in a native language (the title), and you perform and didn't post an English translation, I'll send you a 'gram requesting the title in English.

Image
The white background is meant to be blank, so it can be adapted so a background that accurately describes the nation's values can be used (I won't request them nor accept the background designs), or be incorporated onto the video. The card is vertical, because it will be displayed on the stage left screen set up to cover the balconies close to stage left.

VIEWING CENTERS

For those unable to get into the Cathedral Theater due to the fact that it is packed, we have authorized the installation of viewing screens throughout Kofeiya. These screens are portable, yet give the feel of drive in screens from the 1950s, and projectors will be installed, which will be digital, so to carry the live feed of WorldVision 29. These areas in Kofeiya will receive viewing centers, of which they'll be listed of which park, which town and the capacity, so people throughout the country can get to see our greatest event we have hosted.

Viewing Centers
Mraba wa Mataifa (Square of Nations), Varanken, Federal City, 35,000
Ishvi Theater, Ishvi, Arvegihosk County, 34,750
Uungu Mraba (Divinity Square), Novi Bethlehem, Lael County, 34,500
Arie Mpole Mraba (Arieh Smirnov Square), Arvegihosk, Arvegihosk County, 34,000
Taifa Mraba (National Square), Kupanda, Iliyotengwa ya Kupanda, Ophir County, 33,500
Nazionala Plaza (National Square), Abrahan, Ekialdeko Lurrak, Samuel County, 33,000
Ichabod Mraba (Ichabod Square), Ichabod, Ichabod County, 6,000
Rancho Nyeupe (Nyeupe Ranch), Novi Jericho, Jericho County, 3,500

In total, 180,750 people will be able to view WorldVision 29 from the viewing centers, which if you add in the capacity of the crowd at the Cathedral Theater, at 7,850 people, will mean that 188,600 Kofeiyans and tourists will be able to view WorldVision from Kofeiya. Admission fees to a viewing center (with a concession, although with food and beverages of questionable quality in some regions), are at 3 lira ($6) per person, and 2 lira ($4) for a food item and/or a drink. As well, Varanken's WorldVision Committee will set up a live stream, with comments, tweets, likes and favorite performances as well as mechanisms for voting (they use IP addresses to detect which country you are from, and thus ban voting for your own country, as well as blocking proxies to reduce voter fraud) online, at http://worldvision29.kf.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, we hope that you have enjoyed our bid, and to see what we have to offer for WorldVision 29. If you vote for us, not only would you see WorldVision return to its birthplace, Esquarium (of which it hosted editions 1, 11, 12, and 15), but you will get to experience a new direction, one out of the ordinary, from the modernistic venues and themes of past editions, and back to basics.

We hoped we have impressed you with our venues, our culture, our food and beverages, our cost, and how we plan to mix both traditional values of the continent, with that of the Western world to make a contest, that while it may not be as modern as previous editions, will make it for it by the effort we will put into hosting this, and to make it the best, even if we are a few decades behind in some aspects of WorldVision.

Hence, when host voting starts, we encourage you to give us twelve points, especially if you are tired of the monotony that is the past "futuristic and modern" WorldVision, and want something absolutely different. Hence, on behalf of the Varanken WorldVision Committee, we hope that you at least consider Kofeiya to host this magnificent contest.

BG used it in WV23 as 'Lesne Netvor', which placed 12th or 13th.

Anyways, Quebec won't be back for this edition(it'll be participating every alternate edition now and then), but 2 other nations under my ownership will participate.
