Basic Concept. Welcome, ladies and gentlemen - to my first RP since rejoining Nationstates a few months ago. This RP is heavily inspired by an RP I previously participated in, long before I took my hiatus from Nationstates called The End. Hosted by Reatra. Which told the tale of a world following a global epidemic that annihilated much of the population. The idea wasn’t that zombies, monsters or radiation were the threats - but that your fellow man and your basic human functions were. A lack of medicine, food and water threatened your life, not some fictitious beast. And this was an idea that I really grew attached to - particularly since it was set some time after the initial outbreak, meaning that almost all traces of the world we once knew were annihilated. I remember my older character telling the children he traveled with of the novelties of a world long passed - of ice cream trucks, corner stores and schools. And it was one of the most in-depth and interesting narratives I’ve had the pleasure of participating in. And I’d like to try and create a similar experience here, for others to enjoy alongside me. For this particular version of the RP, we will be based in the continental United States. Backstory. In the year 2019, a plague of unprecedented proportions ravaged the human population, initially dismissed as another ‘swine flu’ false-flag, we were too slow to react. At first it seemed to be harmless, causing your regular flu-esque symptoms: Fever, sneezing, nausea.. But then, as if triggered by detonator - it went off. The first recorded casualty of the ‘Frankfurt Flu’ as it’s come to be known was on July 3rd, fourteen days after the initial outbreak and only a day before the first recorded case on the continental United States. Through our innovations in transport, came our demise - aircraft allowed the plague to go global in a matter of days, multinationalism and shipping lanes allowed for multiple means of distribution - it could not only just arrived on our shores, but in the hearts of our nations by plane, where it spread like a cancer through the body - utilizing our vast rail and road networks to it's advantage. So when it finally went off, there was little to be done in its containment. Martial law was declared in Germany on August 2nd, following mass-deaths and from that moment on, anarchy reigned - nation after nation closed its borders, installed military rule and tried their best to contain or eliminate the infected. But it was too late. Millions had already perished and the death toll rose with every passing tick of the clock. On September 4th, Germany was the first nation to have zero governance - what remained of the armed forces and government had dispersed or perished. The disease having found its way to them through their loved ones, comrades or through a simple lack of proper hygiene. And my December 2nd, 2019.. The last of the world’s governments went black and four billion people lay dead. What started with a simple flu, soon came to cause total organ failure in seventy-five percent of its victims, the remaining twenty-five percent proving capable of resisting the virus, soon recovered. Or so many thought - in fact, they merely became a trojan horse for the virus. Serving as its carriers, lulling many into a false sense of security.. Again, humanity was out-maneuvered, and this proved the deciding factor in the failure of government quarantine efforts globally. Now, such people are all that remain. Them, and those born after the outbreak of the now believed to be extinct virus. Twenty years have passed since those dark days, since the fall of the old world. We stand on the brink, with less than thirty percent of the former human population remaining and no large-scale infrastructure or governance. Divided once again into roaming ‘tribes’ and scavengers.. Yet many still have hope for our ruined people, many believe that - Life always finds a way to flourish. Even when it’s taken a beating. And that this is a chance for humanity to repent and build a better world than the one the plague forced us to leave behind. Rules. I. The OPs and Co-OPs of this Roleplay are the law. What they say goes, if you have an issue with the verdict of one of these people, take it to the Telegrams, not the thread. II. Common sense policies - No Godmodding, flaming or general cheating. III. The role-play is about survival, not killing, but it is a dangerous new world we live in and sometimes blood will be spilled, for better or worse. This isn’t an action movie and many people have perished already, there’s not enough people going around for people to be on constant murder sprees. IV. Be realistic, commodities we take for granted today are in short supply in the new world, fuel, food, water, ammunition - they’re not so easy to come by when global infrastructure’s been in ruin for the last twenty years. V. And finally, enjoy yourselves - although this is a serious RP, it’s about creating a narrative that’s fulfilling and enjoying for everyone. It’s a story you write alongside your fellow players, creating meaningful relationships and plots as you go. So long as you keep it within the site’s rules. Application Format. Sample Applications. Character Application. NS Name: The Vekta-Helghast Empire. Roleplay Sample: Life finds a way. Character Name: William Clarifont. Character Age: Twenty-Eight. Character Gender: Male. Character Personality: Quiet and reserved when in the company of strangers, yet open and warm to those he knows better. He tends to keep his circle small and contained, allowing for him to gain a much more personal and intimate understanding of those around him. Under normal, or whatever can be considered normal in these dark days, he’s known for his restraint, tending to favour words over violence, but when his circle is threatened, he will do anything in his power to ensure their continued safety. In brief, he’s passionate as well as compassionate, with a minor dark streak when required. Appearance: He stands at around 5’11, with shortly kept dark-blonde hair, his beard trimmed rather roughly, leaving a five o’clock shadow and pale blue eyes, these being among the first things that anyone notices about him due to their rather impressive shine. He often wears a thick olive jacket, a red, faded lumberjack shirt tucked beneath it. And below the waist he wears a faded black pair of combat-trousers, pockets on each of the thighs and a pair of black muddy boots crudely stitched to maintain their form poking out beneath. Had he ever shown more flesh, particularly on his torso, he’d reveal numerous scars of varying sizes, a symbol of honour that many of those who’ve found ways to survive in this new world now bare. Character Backstory: William stands as a third generation migrant to the United States, his family finding its origins in Western Germany, having fled to the United States for fear of persecution by the Nazis in the early thirties due to his grandfather being a very vocal political opponent of Adolf Hitler and the National Socialist party. He was born on May 13th, 2011, eight years before the initial outbreak of the ‘Frankfurt Flu’ to a middle class family in Charleston West Virginia, both of his parents being of a German background and regularly taking holidays to their former homeland. Due to the financial background of his parents, William was provided with a wide arrange of educational and social advantages, going to a good elementary school and having access to a wide range of technologies, allowing him to familiarize himself with computers prior to the outbreak on American shores. When the plague struck, he was fortunate enough to find both him and his father standing immune, more than could be said for his mother, who perished in the very early days of the Flu’s evolution into a more lethal form. Her soft whimpers in those final hours haunting his dreams for years. Yet still, he and his father powered on - travelling hundreds, potentially thousands of miles in the ensuing year in search of game, tinned foods and purified water. An unending nightmare in a world forever changed. Then, at the age of twenty-one, he experienced yet further loss, his father dying due to an infected injury, something that in the old world would’ve been easily treatable, but with medicines in such short supply having been drained in futile attempts to aid the ill, there was little hope for his father. And for the first time in his life, William found himself completely alone. Never before had he felt so vulnerable, so afraid. But he endured. He found a way to survive and he kept on going, even when times were darkest and when loneliness overcame him. Character Equipment: A formerly light-red Ice-Axe, faded due to time and wear, an FMK 9C1 G2, with two full ten round magazines and a composite bow, with a set of ten stainless steel arrows. Character Supplies: A North Face rucksack with a camel pack, a 6000UF life-safer water bottle with a built in filter, a packet of salted jerky containing fifteen strips, a six-bit bar of chocolate and a twenty-five gram sachet of salt.
