Does YN have a Thanksgiving holiday?

Postby All are Equal » Thu Nov 28, 2019 10:50 pm

Does your nation celebrate a day of thanksgiving for what your nation has? Is their a subculture that protests it?

Yes, my nation does in fact have a Thanksgiving holiday. It is on the 30th of November.
No there are no subcultures against it.

Thanksgiving is a holiday of Protestant origin. Those who celebrate non-Catholic religious holidays or secular holidays will be arrested and charged with heresy, an offense that carries death or life imprisonment.

No, Andocara doesn’t have a Thanksgiving holiday. They have Christmas, Halloween, and Easter, though Easter in Andocara is more based on Paganism than Christianity due to the nation being a officially secular society. Same with Christmas. Christians do celebrate the Christian aspect of these holidays. Thanksgiving however, is a holiday you wouldn’t find in Andocara.

Thanksgiving in TurtleShroom, though technically a Protestant holiday, is celebrated by all Christians and even unbelievers in the country. All major denominations in TS, heretic religions like the Taiping See, and pagans like the Yues officially sanction it and assign it the rights and privileges akin to feast days, where applicable. It is observed on the fourth Thursday of November.

Other nations with Slavic heritage (especially Russians) observe harvest/feast days of thanksgiving on a different day. TS only designated the last Thursday of November as Thanksgiving Day in 1863 AD, to counter the USA's Thanksgiving Day, as TS recognized and supported the CSA at the time. It was only moved to the fourth Thursday of November in 1991 AD.

Unlike many other nations, Thanksgiving has no connection to the initial founding of the country or the human Missionaries that arrived in TurtleShroom in the seventeenth century. Instead, Thanksgiving Day is a modern continuation of traditional Russian harvest feasts and religious celebrations for one's blessings. It was, obviously, set up as a way for TurtleShroomers to celebrate their abundance and bounty in a new land, as well as for the Miracle of TurtleShroom, which involved the Christianization of the native populace.

Yeah, our nation does celebrate Thanksgiving on May 1, though MANY protest the treatment of our indigenous peoples.

we don't have one by that name, but anyone can form a committee to study the issue and make recommendations.

the autumnal equinox is considered a day of appreciation for the bounties of nature and the harvest.

No, though the reason for this certainly isn't any concern for the fee-fees of the now-enslaved native species on all of the planets we've taken over. We just don't think it makes any sense to be thankful to outside entities for our victories, which were all but inevitable against puny, weak and inferior beings such as humans. They are but mice to us! It'd be like being thankful that you can run a lawnmower over an anthill and win.

There is no holiday named 'Thanksgiving'. However, there are similar harvest festivals such as Lammas and Whimtould.

Thanksgiving isn't a thing in Lillorainen. However, there is a harvest festival (Haustblót), celebrated at autumn equinox. And Lillorainen has yet so see any protest movements against it.

Since Lillorainen's geography is currently being overhauled a 'tiny' bit, most information on it posted before December 12, 2018, is not entirely reliable anymore. Until there's a new, proper factfile, everything you might need to know can be found here. Thank you. #RetconOfDoom (Very late update, 2020/08/30 - it's still going on ...)

Greater Cosmicium doesn't have Thanksgiving because holidays are disruptive to the Cosmician war machine.

We do not. Being tundra people, we don't really have an autumn season and no history of good relations with those that celebrate Thanksgiving with turkeys and merriment.

Replace 'tundra' by 'sand and rocks', and you have the reason why Thanksgiving is not a thing in Shamsiyya, either.
