HOW DO YOU KNOW SHE SAID THE TRUTH? A coloured person or woman saying something does NOT make it automatically true. I AGREE that Meghan Markle was subject to unjust scrutiny by the British, because she is half-black and American ( Americophobia does exist in the UK media). But this is blowing it out of proportion. And before you comment on it, Oprah made it clear that Harry confirmed it was NOT either Philip or the Queen who made the comments on the baby's skin colour.

“The truth” OK. There is no real evidence of racism other then her word that everyone should take as a grain of salt.

Yeah I have a good feeling he was one of them.

They said one person. They said it wasn't the Queen or Philip. Rumours subsequent to the interview suggest it was Anne. Not everyone agrees the question is inherently racist.

And that's not getting into general questions about the credibility of the claims made in the interview. Though, the most questioned claim in there does have the excuse that perhaps Harry and Meghan thought the non wedding was real and the big one was fake when it was the other way around.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex went out of their way to clarify that the Duke of Edinburgh wasn't the source of the comments about their son's potential skin colour.


Which is, however, a separate issue from whether the Duke of Edinburgh was in any way racist. He certainly occasionally expressed some views that we might charitably describe as old-fashioned; but then my grandmothers were 5-8 years older than Prince Philip and - however regrettably - said things that were far more racist than anything Prince Philip ever said when they were still alive. Generational views change. That doesn't mean that we should never challenge the views of older generations, only that we can regret (indeed condemn) things that they might say or do that no longer meet contemporary standards while also understanding the social context that they were raised in contributes to their views.

My grandfather is nine or so years younger than Philip was. My mother is about as old as Diana was. This is a conversation from several years ago:
