How to have a good economy as a communist nation?

I created my first communist nation earlier this week, and I’ve read that it’s hard to have a good economy as a communist country. I’ve seen plenty of nations that have entirely state-run economies do pretty well economically, so I know it’s possible. How should I go about doing this?

You don't.

In all seriousness, it's really hard to do. I'm the type of person to avoid NS Stats on my RP nation (which isn't even communist). If you do want to have a good economy as a socialist nation, you have to weave your way through issues. There's a whole index of them online, which you should look through to get your economy up.

Increase taxes, don't use capitalism, and promote industry, and you should be fine.

Want one way of doing it that I used? Run your nation as a capitalist nation for a long period of time (I'm talking about years here), and then shift to a socialist economy; and the economic hit will more likely be negligible to nonexistent, as it was in my case. I noticed no economic difference when I enacted the Socialism policy via one of the issues, besides income equality rising slightly.

If we are really going to split hairs and be ultra orthodox about it, then yes; hence why the relevant policy in the game is called "Socialism" rather than "Communism".

the easiest way is to go capitalist. Other than that ive never personally seen a communist nation reach an average benchmark for their economy. The point of communism is NOT having a lot of money so everyone is equal. You're going to have a hard time.

Surprised nobody answered this but the real correct answer is business subsidization.

You can have a state-controlled economy while continuing to fund business, as seen with nations such as https://www.nationstates.net/nation=fauzjhia

Note the high business subsidization and negative economic freedom. There's no need to play capitalist for a communist nation - that's pretty contradictory.

Nationstates issues tend to naturally trend toward a good economy. I've several socialist accounts where I answer issues without concern for the economy, and they always end up having strong economies. Unless you're doing things like deindustrialization, your economy will trend upwards if you keep answering issues, albeit at a slower rate that capitalist nations.

Just accept that the US would embargo you, put sanctions and ruin your economy no matter what you do.

Basically, cheat and ignore issues if there are no 'good' options.

As a nation with the socialist policy, and an economy labeled "Good", I'd recommend putting funding into subsidizing, and advertising for industry. Once you go socialist, make sure to always side with some businessman who's solution to the issue involves helping his company. Effectively, if you want a socialist economy, that's above average, you're going to have to run it like "state capitalism" Focus on profit for the companies, even though they are now owned by the state. Your taxes will be high, but I don't think there's any way out of that.

Edit: Apparently Confederate American SU managed to do it, with low taxes. So it is possible, if you're patient.

I maintain a socialist/stare run economy with huge pizza and soda production.

Just subsidize your state industries without allowing private enterprise

Pour money into the “Commerce” budget while never privatizing. Don’t choose issues that crash the economy. You can get up to economic rating of “All-Consuming” and “Frightening.”

Also, once your communist economy gets rolling, pick a few government priorities besides Commerce and focus on them. This seems to trigger a hidden Keneysian script which furthers your economic production. Don’t over diversify, focus most of your spending on a few selected areas.

For me, I picked Environment and Healthcare. Now whenever I pour more money there, it further boosts the state-run economy.
