What convinced me to be an Atheist?

The realization that it's existence was founded upon the lack of reasoning for natural phenomena, and now that we can explain the phenomena, it's no longer really valid or needed.

I'm a Catholic confused between Catholicism and Agnosticism therefore I'm indifferent towards atheists; I won't require people to be atheists but I don't mind them (they're rather likeable) either.

It seems rational. I mean, we have no viable data to prove or disprove it in this day and age, but from what we do have, it seems to make more sense than most theistic beliefs.

Just because it effects you does not mean there is purpose to it. There are plenty of things you could do that have no aim, no purpose.

We breath to stay alive. We laugh to release tension. We do a jig to prove a point.

Religion has goals of its own - generally the spread of its faith and principles, sometimes the preservation of ethnic identity and tradition, in older ones saving the world from being drowned by angry storm gods who get cranky when they're hungry.

Let me rephrase it: "A valid point."

Things like breathing keep us alive, which I think is pretty damn important and a valid purpose despite it being a minute waste of energy.

Religion is about, in some way or another, pleasing a sky fairy with arbitrary traditions and rules.

Religion simply doesn't make sense, nor have a valid purpose. Unless you were one of those power hungry priests from the Middle Ages that benefited off of the religious theocracies of Europe. Breathing and politics do.

I don't agree with their views, since I myself am a religious person. However, I don't bother going out forcing people to convert and ostracising those who don't. If it was their decision to remain atheistic, I respect that.

Well, I'm not going to play the guessing game over something that only applies to him rather than me. I respect that he doesn't believe there to be substantial evidence in favor of God; I'm NOT now going to launch a crusade to convert him.

I'm an Atheist because I was never really raised religious, and though my parents were they have become atheist over time. I also find atheism to be more practical for my lifestyle, I don't have time to pray, but I may read the Bible one day for fun.
