Now a rapist is an insane and evil person, that cannot resist temptation, and will resort to violent methods of having sex with the girl. Furthermore, porn increases people's awareness of what sex is, and might increase their desire for it.

Rape is not about the sex itself. It's about the power that the rapist has over the victim. Clothing does not have anything to do with it; if someone seems weak to a potential rapist, he or she can and may be a target of rape.

I do agree that rape has a lot to do with power.

It's not the only factor though. Being horny would be a factor too. Not in all rapes, but then it's not in all rapes that subjugation is the primary aim (or else how would we explain rape of unconsious bodies after use of date-rape drugs).

1.) Sex offenders are more likely to commit a new violent crime or property crime than they are to be arrested for a new sex offense.
2.) Sex offenders are overall less likely to be re-arrested, period.

Burglary is no big deal. I've been burgled quite a few times, and when the police came around to record it I got "we'll send the fingerprint team around to check this stuff" and the fingerprint team have turned up exactly zero times. It's disturbing, in that your home feels less secure and your belongings are often insulted (deliberately smashed or defiled), but the actual loss of stuff ... it never bothered me that much, even though I have never had insurance. With insurance, I imagine that the worst harm done is when a family heirloom or something personally but not financially valuable is stolen. With insurance, I may well have been materially better off after being burgled.

Crimes against the individual (rather than their property) are far more traumatizing, and should be treated more seriously by police.

It's interesting what you say about recidivism in sex offenders. I'll just add that Ageing Out is a bigger factor in that, than in other crimes. Even if it's only five years in jail, the rapist or child molestor is less likely to commit the same crime later in life, whether they had been imprisoned for the crime or not.

Hatred is a bad feeling to harbor. Like having a nuclear submarine in your harbor, with its reactor leaking and all the crew deserted. It can mess up other parts of your life which would otherwise progress.

But hatred can be turned to good ends. It's a motivator, as all the emotions are. It's a real test of character whether we can turn our hatred to good ends (including self-improvement) or hang on to it, as a reason to hate a whole class of people which our victimizer is one example of.

Yet another one of my friends has come forward to others about what happened to them. The convict was found guilty and sentenced to fifty years and I dont know what the bail is. I feel so proud of her. Is this what it would feel like to be a parent? I dont know, but my friends are something special.

Porn makes orgasm easier. I don't use porn myself, because I think it also makes orgasm less satisfying. But duh it make it easier for lonely people to achieve orgasm alone.

Given that we lock people up in jail, where they most likely have no contact with their preferred sexual partners and also have very little privacy, it would be cruel and inhumane to further deny them access to porn. It would also increase the incidence of prison rape.

The rate of all other crimes has gone down, in the US, over long scales up to a century. It goes up or down by the year and decade, and there are patterns in that too, but the overall trend is for less crime the more the prospective-criminal has better options. Defeating poverty is the best way to defeat crime.

Poverty is humiliating. It disempowers people. It makes them feel like a personal failure, for being poor. This is a lesser driver of interpersonal crime (like rape) than it is of property crime (like theft for profit, or extortion) but it is surely still a factor. The person who has less to lose in their civil (law-abiding) life has less to fear from punishment. The less they have to fear from punishment, the more likely they are to commit a crime.

Reduction of absolute poverty is a good thing, and I applaud capitalism for doing it. But relative poverty remains a cause of crime (all sorts of crime) and there is still much for socialists to do in addressing it.

Nice. There are ups and downs though (both on your side and the forum's side) and even with lots of practice people can lose their temper. I think I nearly got warned two days ago. It will never be easy.

I certainly agree: the cruel things we would do for revenge, when we're still in the grip of hatred and hurt, are things we would almost certainly later regret. I've wanted to kill people, I've wanted to blind them or to paralyze them from the neck down. I never did, though I must admit I put steps in train to such ends. Mostly I haven't forgiven them for what they did, which made me so angry ... but I am so glad I never did any of those things. We have to live a lot longer with what we did than we do with what was done to us.
