Me and a pal were looking over the old forums for the sake of nostalgia... We found a thread titled "Which ten nations do you consider the most powerful?" It's been awhile since I've seen a thread like this. The one in particular is from 2004. This is that list...

Doujin

The Burnsian Desert :D

Fluffywuffy

The Zoogie People

Reploid Productions

Automagfreek

Dontgonearthere

DontPissUsOff

Communist Louisiana

Nodea Rudav

Credonia

Inner Heaven/Outer Heaven/Imperial Heaven

Melkor Unchained

Menelmacar

Sunset

Aequatio

Bajon

Anti-Terror Army

Belem

Sniper Country

Crimmond

DR_TWIST

XERAPH

I just want to see how things change over time with a quick show of opinon... It's been five years. Who do you think is the best of the best? The cream of the crop? Who are the most powerful nations in the galaxy/World. There will be two lists for FT and MT, label the difference and I'll judge this popularity contest.

FT:

Auman: Why, I got three nods, gave myself one because I made this list... And got a freebie for making this list. It's the joys of having authoritarian rule over a thread such as this.
Chronosia: The most understandable nominee on this one, if he didn't get the required five votes, I would have utilized my divine right once again.
Telros: The guy assaults everyone with the wall of text. And while the man doesn't agree with my views, I am willing to give credit where it's due. The man can write well, he belongs here. He actually won this spot by a very wide margin, two votes in excess of the necessary five. He's won the popularity vote, so it seems.
Mekanta: Because, tentacles.

And because I don't vote for moi self, I prefer from experience... (for FT)

~ The Humankind Ahb
~ The Eternally Chaotic Imperium of Chronosia

~ The Mindset (for the MWG map mainly)

Not really any order to the listing, just the ones that stick out in my mind here.

"Chronosia" (Whats NS with out the scourge of chaos? Good friend of mine oocly, respectable player and rper.)

"CoreWorlds" (Gotta give this kid some props, learned to take loosing so well, knows how to write, good friend of mine to.)

"Gaian Ascendancy " (You do well written posts and have a good story arc going.)

"Myenya" (This dude has some brass ones its all I will say :P good guy, great rper.)

"Reploid Productions" (Great mod, I've had experience rping with him/her. This name should definitely be on this list)

Best != Most Powerful

As a RL example, Finland was the best during the Winter War, but there was no question that Soviet Union was a far more powerful nation, just as Nazi Germany was arguably more powerful than UK during the Battle of Britain.

Unlike some, I don't (role)play NS for the sake of OOC ego. I play it for the sake of fun.

"The best" not being so much the most powerful, but who you think is a good example of what this game stands for. That being said, writing skills generally seem to be the best indicator... But there are many things a person can be nominated because of, like a service they've provided for the community, a particularly riveting storyline, good sportsmanship and other things the poster can think of.

I, for one, can't believe someone actually put Menelmacar up... Anyway, names will get added to my list when they've received five or more "nods" from their peer group. And no, you cannot vote for yourself, that's loser lame.

The best should be the best if they roleplay in all categories, not just FT and not just MT/PMT. Unless we make two categories for the best players in these areas.

All for FT: Telros, Kewen, Ravea, Rethan, TRIAD Enterprises, The Fedral Union (grudgingly :P), Arizona Nova, Narodna Odbrana, Sskiss and Solar Communes. In no particular order.

Oh, and for MT, Allemande and Techno-Soviet.

Best?

FT:

1. It's tough to say. I'm tied between C'tan and Kanuckistan, taking into account both writing skill and IC power.
2. Neo-Mekanta, taking into account tentacles.
3. Myenya, during the brief time I interacted with him, has proven to be a stellar RPer.
4. Chronosia, he plays Chaos as it should be played.
5. Arizona Nova, Great writer and ICly has a very solid power base.
6. Mindset, for keeping the ESUS together.
7. <This line intentionally left blank.>
8. <See Above.>
9. Crystal Palais. I'd bump him up if he was more active, but when he *is* active, he's a fantastic writer.
10. <This line reserved for newbies that prove themselves with acts of gratuitous win.>

In terms of their influence on the IC development of Arizona Nova:

  1. Central Facehuggeria: the perennial bogeyman to Arizona Nova during the reign of their Emperor Halsey, reaction to Central Facehuggeria's military strength and ideology were ultimately what ended up driving the construction of both the military machine and ideological foundation of Arizona Nova.
  2. Arenumberg: One of the earliest allies of the Arizona Novanian state, the rescue of their refugees from the Shivans at Groombridge shaped both military strategy and political relations in Arizona Nova for millenia to come, from Groombridge to the Sornei Empire to the rise of Kemelzar, first king of Arizona Nova.
  3. Mekanta: Oddly enough, Mekanta was essentially the FT first contact for Arizona Nova; exhibition of my Hyperion class battleship caught their attention, and a deal was hammered out to purchase nanites; presumably "descendants" of this Mekantan strain yet persist. In the process, Arizona Nova learned of ESUS and applied to the alliance. Mind, ever since Mekanta and Neo-Mekanta has been the byword of dread and fear, but their importance has never faded.
  4. Jordaxia: Though the Arizona Novanian government never interacted with their government exactly, Jordaxian environs, like the Monopoly ringworld, and a Jordaxian being, Fate, proved to be incalculably important in Arizona Novanian history - Monopoly being the place where Arizona Nova's second leader, Anikar, was resummoned into this plane of existence, and both Monopoly and Fate played the antagonist role in the Calamities, destroying, with the help of rampant digisape Julius, the Arizona Novanian homeworld of Arizona Prime.
  5. Siesatia: A sort of love-hate relationship; Siesatia helped refine the Sapient Civil Rights Act which became the backbone of Arizona Novanian law, though their experimentation with chronomancy of course generated much hostility with those outside Arizona Nova's government.
  6. Northrop-Grumman: Buying into their orbital star-gate network was one of the first major actions the Arizona Novanians state took to connect itself to the larger universe. Though by now those gates have been damaged, destroyed, or lost, they taught the empire of both the need and pitfalls of a rapid interstellar transit network.
  7. The Mindset: founder of ESUS, their nation's mastery of gravitonics proved an inspiration to generations of Arizona Novanian researchers, who have even today only attained a fraction of the applications which the Mindset originally pioneered.
  8. Allanea: Always a longtime ally, sometimes fairweather foe, Allanea's relations with the state have been highly varied but never overtly hostile. From the settlement of the Dohwar on Egureo, to the ESUS-JTF Senate proposal fiasco where their delegate actually threw one of our own into the crowd, relations with Allanea have never been boring.
  9. Capsule Corporation: In both its early and late incarnations, Capsule Corporation was and is highly influential in Arizona Nova; the model of corporate power envied and emulated by much smaller Arizona Novanian counterparts, and its advances in spacefolding technology were captured along with the Noah system and combined with Arizona Nova's native hyperdrive technology, resulting in one of the most revolutionary drive systems yet conceived.
  10. Telros: Last but by far not the least, the aid of Telros to King Kemelzar in joint command of military operations preceding Reconstruction was priceless, and today the Telrosian Guard, descendants of Anikari emigrants who relocated to Telros after the Sornei Civil War, who then returned to Arizona Nova with the rise of King Kemelzar, remains the elite among the elite in the Arizona Novanian military, accompanying their heads of state to functions around the galaxy.

In terms of OOC:
  1. Klonor: the Father of FT, Klonor was a true pioneer for this side of the game, one of the first to dare to throw off the shackles of MT for the stars, and one of its original storefront magnates. Founder of the Galactic Alliance, one of the first FT mega-alliances, his personality and influence echo in the game today.
  2. The Mindset: Fair to mention twice, as his first galactic map, which was a relatively (technologically) simple layout of trade connections between FT nations, was the first of its kind, and a revolutionary leap forward for FT. His second map, used by over one hundred nations today, was the next great leap forward, an advance as important for FT as calculators were for MT.
  3. Scolopendra: Founder of the Triumvirate of Yut, the alliance he began has proven one of the most enduring in FT, and nearly peerless in the quality of the RPs its players have produced. The mystique its age and reputation have engendered is truly legendary.
  4. Trailers: It is said that fortune favors the bold, and Trailers, the founder of IRON, is nothing short of the definition thereof. It takes a pair to coordinate a claim to half a galaxy, and dedication to the game to RP trying to enforce this claim, and for the latter especially Trailers is to be commended.
  5. Allanea: Love him or hate him, Allanea is undoubtedly one of the most consistently active players in FT, not only playing alongside a dizzyingly wide variety of players but helping to forge IC and OOC connections between communities that may otherwise never have occurred.
  6. Unified Sith: Though an avowed long-time nemesis of the ESUS on virtually every conceivable level, Unified Sith was nonetheless one of the most dynamic organizers of the Star Wars fan community on NationStates yet seen.
  7. The Ctan and Chronosia: Though many lay claim to 40k canon in their tech base or culture, very few have RPed it as widely and devotedly as these two players. Whenever someone mentions 40k in the context of NationStates, it is indubitable that whoever you are, wherever you are, one or both of these two are the first players you think of.

For myself in no particular numerical order, i would choose, the following;

Central Facehuggria: Loads of fun to RP with, Over the top (in the best possible way), and a skilled Rp'er.
The Mindset: Skilled RP'er, I also like the style of his nation and "feel".
Arizona Nova: Skilled RP'er, good solid history, which I had the good fortune of particpating in.
Solar Communes: For realism (hard sci-fi) and overall RP ability.
Skeelzania: Good solid Rp'er with an interesting history and good weaknesses.
Neo-Mekanta: Good solid Rp'er, We have a history together in that my people are amoung the few his people respect :D That's got to count for something.... Oh yes, and tentacles...
Balrogga: Good solid Rp'er, rich history as well.
Chronosia: good skilled Rp'er, fun to Rp with and rich history.
Derscon: Again, a solid good Rp'er
Kanuckistan: Long history, great Rp'er, interesting as well.

Honerable mentions; Auman, Kostemetsia, Telros, Jordaxia, Capsule Corp., Triad Enterprises/Morningstar Coalition, Scolopendra, Dread Lady Nethicana.

Forgive me for missing others, its really quite a long list.

Well... being me. I have to say that doesn't seem accurate from my perspective. You're probably one of the best MT RPers on here. No joke about that.

So. As for MT RPers, in no particular order it would be, and these are just the ones which immediately come to mind:

1. Allemande
2. The Warmaster/Kregaia
3. AMF
4. Doomingsland
5. The Kraven Corporation

I'd probably also put Beth Gellert, Czardas, and a few other countries on that list. They generally make a lot of good input to these boards. There's probably a lot more who should be counted, but these are just the ones which come to mind immediately. A lot of countries I'd add to the list seem to have gone inactive though, like Iesus Christi.
