Beaverriver 66–77 Okunion
Hey this is Dickey Vonn coming to you live from Okunion's baskeball headquarters, where the National Team took the first match in the 8th IBC against Beaverriver. Point guard Channing Williams was on fire today baby! Slam bam wam up away the elevator MAN. Okunion got of to a TERRIFIC start with a 21-5 run to start the game. After the first quarter It was 37-16. Coach Hall gathered the team and told them not to get to big of heads. Williams finished the first quarter with an amazing 22 points and 3 assists. The second quarter the team struggled as Alex Young got into foul trouble with about six minutes left in the half and coach was forced to sit him. Beav had a nice quarter catching the margin with Okunion closing the halftime score to 49-32. Williams also had an unlucky quarter with only 4 points. In the third quarter Okunion's Erick Green decided to step up the pace as he scored 10 points in the quarter with three dunks. At the end of the quarter Coach Hall got a tech issued on a foul he wanted to argue. END OF THE THIRD QUARTER 61-45, Okunion. This young team finished Beav off with Williams and Green having TWO alley-oops in the final quarter.
Coach Hall on the win, "Great start, thats really all I have to say, Great Start."

Carasatoga Huge Win Over Sarzonia, Ties Record at 1-1

JACKSON- Last night, the G-Hawks that are the Carasatogan National Basketball Team pulled off an incredible upset over Sarzonia, winning 94-91 over the team, ranked 1st in NS. Even though Carasatoga itself is a basketball powerhouse, being ranked 14th in NS, this is still an incredible feat for this relative newcomer to IBC. It was made all the more special by Harvey Moneghan getting his career high 27 points in a world-class showing in Jackson in front of an over-capacity crowd at Oceania Stadium. "I just... this is so great. I mean, last year at B7 (what Carasatogans call IBC for short) I was off the bench, which I was proud of, but now... being able to put up the numbers I just put up, having the game I just had, along with all the other guys... it's priceless. I just have to say that, damn are we going to party tonight!"
"Coach Grey had the same sentiments as Moneghan, albeit with less explicatives, "We had our game tonight. Here in Jackson, we put it to Sarzonia. I know it was close, and in the first half I thought the Stars were going to pull away, but we pulled this one out against the number one seed. All I have to say is..." he wiped his mouth and looked down while the cameras were on him, "...Carasatoga is going to be in the top 10 this year, and win B8. Just wait 'til we hit CC." Fans in Carasatoga are over-the-moon about the Old Coast Club and its triumphs, despite the first matchday loss to Stuffed Taxidermists. Carasatoga doesn't play tonight and are taking the opportunity to do events around Carasatoga, showing support and gratitude. These boys are really exemplifying what it means to be a part of the history of the Old Coast Club.

Darmen looses by 13, in dead last
The Darmen National Basketball Team lost to Ockkorlond(WHO?), 82-69. The Darmeni team held a 23 point lead going into the fourth quarter, but just like the first game against Mangolana, the Darmen Defence fell apart late. Coach Kevin Loughry said that he would not make any changes to the lineup but said that the team had to pick it's game up and start winning. Starting Point Guard Scott Perry is quoted as saying, "We really need to beat Andossa se Mitrin Vega and get back on track. We can not start 3-0."

Stachland Falls to Intense Valladares Squad
by Lowell Brooks

In a physically excruciating match, the team from Valladares managed to hang on to defeat the Stachlandic team, by a score of 74-62.

Trevor Johnson was perhaps Stachland’s biggest disappointment of the night, following his phenomenal twenty-five point performance in the opening match against Cbngggfv with a game in which he contributed only six, shooting three for fourteen. “I just couldn’t get into it tonight,” Johnson said, wiping sweat from his brow as the team entered the locker room. “I’m sorry for disappointing a lot of people—I can’t tell you why it happened.”

Stachland’s star for the night was substitute shooting guard Bishop Laurel, who scored twelve points, including six from beyond the three-point line. “I hope I can perform well in the future. We need to make a good impression on the international basketball scene,” Laurel said.

Valladar starting shooting guard Jeremy Rivas was the key to his team's success, scoring nineteen points and being credited with three assists. "He was definitely difficult to defend," admitted Laurel, who nevertheless performed much better against Rivas than did Stachland's other shooting guards.

Civil Citizenry 86, Newmanistan 75

Every International Basketball Championships has seen Tank Nelson play starting center for the Newmanistan Rockets. He recently decided to leave the court for a seat on the bench as the head assistant for Phil McDowell. It’s only been one game, but with the eighth IBC under way the Rockets are struggling to cope with the loss of a huge inside presence. The Citiz know that really well: playing at home at The Wick, they held high-scoring Newmanistan to just 75 points while scoring 86 themselves to win their first game of the qualification stage.

In hopes of reaching the round of sixteen, to be played in our very own nation, the Citiz opened the tournament with a disastrous loss at Chadacian. Not knowing what to expect in a country they’d never heard of, versus a team with no international experience, the Citiz players were rattled when the game began, and they were unable to recover from a poor opening half.

But once they returned home to The Wick, they were fired up to face the two-time champions and current number three team in the world from Newmanistan. Every man on the team was filled with incredible adrenaline and energy as soon as they sprinted out onto the floor to a cheering crowd of 54,000. With the Rockets’ most imposing force helpless on the sidelines, seven-foot-four Ukembe Ugalde didn’t seem so big; and with a college graduate rounding out the formerly-formidable backcourt, the Citiz just weren’t as overwhelmed as maybe they should have been against one of NationStates’ greatest teams ever.

The Citiz raced out to 25 points in the first twelve minutes. Giona Bretawll, guarding Corey Savage in the Newmanistanian’s international debut, had a personal 8-0 run late in the quarter. Ten points came from the hands of Iklim Iklim, whose 7’2” frame served as a consistent juxtaposition to Ugalde. Though Ugalde is not new to the international scene, Iklim’s experience seemed to help him dominate offensively in the post.

Down 25-17 after one quarter, the Rockets’ guards started to prove why they are the best outside-shooting team in the multiverse. Scott Lavelle dropped three threes; Thomas Horrigan, coming off the bench for Corey Savage (who debuted on the international scene for the first time), also sank a trey. In response, the Citiz turned to their frontcourt for point production to counter the booming Newmanistanian offense. Aleri Hazess bounced back from a quiet first quarter to score eight points; Iklim added another six, while Bretawll scored another three. Halftime came with Civil Citizenry ahead by a slim margin, 44-40.

The break seemed to light a fire in the souls of the Rockets’ men. Ugalde began the third quarter with two quick baskets. After Umaga was stuffed by Lavelle going for a three-pointer, Lavelle made a sweet pass to Cartier in the corner for a three. Corey Ostroff, who struggled in the first half with three fouls, slammed home a jam, then fed an alley-oop to Ugalde. But a Citiz timeout was enough for the momentum of the game to switch. Enyarez Samanak entered an international game for the very first time, and he and Umaga stepped up their defense to hold the backcourt down on offense. Aleri Hazess used his bulky 6’10” frame in taking control of the paint, while Iklim stopped Ugalde from being the force a 7’4” player should be. The Citiz went on an 18-2 run to end the quarter; the Rockets slumped back to the bench for the final quarter behind, 64-53.

As soon as the Citiz scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter, the Citiz started entering some subs, not expecting the world number three to make a real charge at the lead in the killer environment at The Wick. Though the Rockets offense started plowing ahead, the Citiz reserves, like guard Desnyashi Yamkatka, a former national team starter, also held their own on offense. The final whistle blew with eighty-six points for the Citiz, to just seventy-five for the Rockets.

Civil Citizenry is ranked thirty-seventh in the world, but they might as well have been number one given their level of play against former world champions Newmanistan. It was a drastic flip from the energy-less, mediocre loss at Chadacian. What remains to be seen, and what will be the interesting story of the tournament, is if the host team can continue playing at a world-class level. Last time around, they were shut out of the final qualification stage by a final-day loss, but they hope to make it through a tough group that also features our Goose Coast bros from Cotdelapoms.

Qazox's horrible shooting saw them drop a game they shouldn't have to the Alphabet soup team 82-73. Despite 25+ points from both McIllory and Hicks, Qazox remaining 8 players combined for just 20 points. At 1-1 with 6 games left, Qazox can't afford to drop anymore games to teams that aren't ranked.

Bisgea loses to Raurosia, 84-87

Bisgean fans were disappointed yesterday night when the Bisgean team lost once again, bringing the Bisgean standing to 1-2. "At the start, I thought we were going to win," stated center Ronald Aquino. "We started off great and eventually the score went up to 37-28 at the end of the first half. But by the third quarter, morale was down as Raurosia started scoring and led by 9 points, bringing the score to 53-44," commented by the coach Mark Manalo. "Eventually the score was 84-87 with nine seconds left, our ball. Aquino attempts to pass the ball to Mattens, and is stolen by the opposing center. He passes to their power forward and is stolen by Cortez with two seconds remaining. He goes for the three, shoots but the time runs out. Uncounted."

New Palmouth IBC Report:

A close victory means New Palmouth leads group, but shockers elsewhere as 5 more games to go.

New Palmouth needed a last min shot to win 86-83 against Mpya Mwanzo. Both teams played well in this game, it was hard to see anyone of both teams failing to impress. Qazox, on the other hand, were given a shock defeat by ABK, losing 83-72.

Tony King said: Both teams played well in our game today, we'll be looking forward to qualifying now!

OOC: Lol Qazox, alphabet soup, that would make a good nickname for my team. The "Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuk Alphabets". Anyway, anyone doing RPs can refer to me as ABK if they want.

IC:
Surprise Victory!

ABK won its first group match today, which still leaves it in contention for a spot in the knockout round. They defeated Qazox 83-72, led by Star Center Luis Dominguez, who had over 40 points. Gary White also had over 20. The Qazox defense just could not seem to handle Dominguez, no matter how hard they ried, even throwing double-teams at him. However, this usually led to a dish out past the three-point line, and a shot form one of ABK's guards.

OSN:Okunion Win Second Match, Sits Atop Standings

HEY BABY THIS IS DICKY V (VONN), coming off an off week in the 8th IBC, the Okunion National Team would use their rest to win another game, this time against Wolfmanne, 78-74. Point guard star Channing Williams would imprese yet again earning 34 points, 9 assists, and 3 steals. The game got close in the final two minutes with Wolfmanne closing the gap to 75-72 with 32 seconds left as Coach Hall called a time out. On the inbounds Erick Green gets the ball in the post kicks it out to, guess who, Williams, bam wam three! As Wolfmanne home country crowd rocks, they call a time out to set up a play to get them within one possesion. Out of the time out they tried a three point play but constroversially the refree called it a two. After about 5 minutes review the shot at the moniter, the refs called stood as called on the floor. After the ruling was released, the Wolfmanne head coach exploded earning him two technial fouls and an ejection. Okunion was unable to hit the two free throws from the T's, but they were able to run the remaining 8 seconds off the clock. After the game they are 2-0 and sit atop the group standings.

If Henry West were searching for something, anything, to keep his Sarzonian national basketball team from getting too big for their britches, he found it.

After Carasatoga's upset victory over the Stars in the opening match of the International Basketball Championships, West let his players know how displeased he was with the team's execution.

"Carasatoga are a good team," one player tried to interject before West lit into him.

"We're the defending world champions," West intoned with barely concealed anger. "We should be kicking the asses of 'good' teams. Everyone runs five laps after practice tomorrow," he said, noting the cacophony of dissent from the players. He gave them one more reason to be upset with him.

"Practice is at 5. In the morning."

The anger on the parts of both players and coach was a powerful motivator for the Stars, as they came out against Ma Raque looking for blood. They earned a convincing 98-70 victory that saw West finish the fourth quarter sitting on the bench with a Rextaria Springs bottled water in his right hand. The execution still wasn't what West wanted, but the effort and the intensity were.

After the match, West announced to the team that practice was at 8 a.m.

"Coach, why are you punishing us after a win," guard Chris Draden asked.

"It's not punishment this time," West said. "The practice court's been reserved for a graduation."

West could understand the disappointment with players having to get up early again, but he was upset with the fact that the graduation was scheduled for their practice facility. His arguments with the Woodstock Department of Public Works were to no avail.

"Why don't we practice at The Palestra?"

"That's reserved too," West said.

Qazox's cold shooting turned around abit tonight as they shot a tourney-high (for them at least) 43% including a game-tying 3-pointer by Greg Hammond with 6.2 seconds left to send the game into Overtime. Qazox trailed 82-77 with 2 minutes left in OT, but went on a 9-1 run to close out the victory and move into a 1st place tie with New Palmouth.

New Palmouth just happen to be our next opponents. The winners of this game will be alone in first in the group with a 3-1 record. At the half-way point of the group stage, Qazox hasn't overwhelmed any of their opponents, which isn't a good sign come playoff time if Qazox makes it there.

Carasatoga Atop Group 8 After Win Over Ma Raque

MA RAQUE- Last night, the G-Hawks won their second game in the International Basketball Championships against Ma Raque, 77-61, and now are at the top of Group 8. The first half was very stagnant, with Ma Raque's defense and Carasatoga's complacency keeping the scores low. In the second half, however, Carasatoga opened up and was able to pull away. Three G-Hawks reached double-digits, despite the low score, and with the slow pace of the game the bench was able to contribute, Riley Pearl getting 10 in his best game of the IBC so far. "Man, Ma Raque was a wicked defensive team, actually really frustrating most of the time. We usually don't play teams that are more focused on not letting you score than they are about scoring themselves, but we got the win so it's all cool.
Coach Grey commented on how the G-Hawks are going to have to do better if they want a result against Klenginistan at home tonight, "Klentginistan is just below Ma Raque in the group and that is just because of us, we need to come out in the first half with baskets, not just be happy with being a couple points ahead like against Ma Raque."

New Palmouth IBC Report

Rest day for New Palmouth, tough game against Qazox next

No game last night for New Palmouth, meant they were watching Qazox beat Mpya Mwanzo on TV. The Qazox team did not play as well as New Palmouth has played so far, meaning New Palmouth has an advantage tonight. But it will be tough, knowing Qazox is one of the greatest countries on this planet, so throughout the day today and yesterday, they were training so hard, that coach Tony King was impressed

"I've never seen anything like it" Tony said, "They've been really focused and gearing up for this. They're trying to beat one of the best countries in the world for a place in the next round, and this is good stuff".

Full match between Qazox and New Palmouth live on Lion Television Channel Six tonight at 1am NPT.

By:John Jackson

The Jimmer Fredette Patriots absolutely killed Swartaz, beating them by 30.The score was 91-61.The game was dominated by Jimmer Fredette and they started out on a 15-0 run and never looked back.Coach Kenny said the team played outstanding today.I couldn't be more excited and proud of them. They also didn't get over their heads with that win over Delaclava and it looks like we might be able to make a run at this thing. The big man,Wayne Buster said this game was a big one.We now know how it feels to kill a team.We won by 30,but every game won't be this much of a blow out. We'll lose heart breakers, win heart breakers.lose by a lot,and win by a lot.Today we won by a lot.Hopefully we just win every game from now on.It would be a very fun season. The score was 91,so a lot of stats. The leading scorer was Jack Mayberry with 34 points. The assist leader was also Jack Mayberry with ten assists. The final stat was Nicholas Majors had the most rebounds with 13 boards.Jack Mayberry had a triple-double with 34 points,10 assists, and 11 rebounds. The small guy somehow got 11 rebounds. Now that's dedication to the game.Blow out game, and remember,LETS GO PATS!

Amber’s Space

We are now at the midway point of the International Basketball Championships, following a 91-73 victory over Bisgea, and we are a perfect 4-0 so far, and we should be very grateful for that because there are some giants struggling right now. If I were to have told you that after four games that neither Sarzonia nor Newmanistan would have a winning record, you would think I was nuts. Both of those teams have records of 2-2. Eventually both of those nations will get going, and I feel sorry for their opponents when they do hit their stride. I think we have done well if you look at the statistical categories as we have the most points scored and the best point differential of any team thus far and that is all things to make you very happy, but it really means nothing right now. What we want to do is win a championship, not be one of these teams who peaks in the group stage and then runs flat later. Our success in the NSCAA 3 leads us to believe that we can get this title, especially when the Stars and Rockets are down.

People will probably want me to say who I think is our biggest threat right now, and the best way to answer that is to say everyone. Like I alluded too, I still think Sarzonia and Newmanistan are dangerous, they both know what it takes to win and may peak late as opposed to early. Qazox is a good contender, as they want to cross this sport off their list of the “big five” tournaments and only have a World Cup left to go and Valladares is always good in this. I think a lot of people might forget about them in basketball, sometimes. And there’s always Andossa se Mitrin Vega, or one of these new teams. See why I said it’s just easier to say everyone? Up next is a bye day and a reminder that we still have not accomplished anything yet.

Jimmer Fredette's streak ended last night as they lost to Taeshan,85-79.It was a close game throughout, but Taeshan hit three straight threes with 15 seconds left to come from losing 79-76,to winning 85-79.All the players were really mad in the locker room.I couldn't find many players that wanted to talk.So first,I went to Coach Kenner. He said this will help the team because now they know how this feels.I'm sure we all wanted this to never happen, but it did and we have to go with that. Now that we now how it feels, hopefully we can avoid it for the rest of the year and make the playoffs. The one person I found to talk was Joseph Curran. He said that he doesn't feel to good right now.I hate this feeling and it's going to be hard to forget.Hopefully we can bounce back next game against Altimarus. If we win that, maybe we get in the playoff talk.Hopefully it doesn't end here.If it does, there's always next year.Eventually we'll get there. Now for some stats. The leading point scorer was Joseph Curran with 20 points.Assist leader was Wayne Buster with 12 assists, and the leading rebounder was Bryan Shine with 11.There were no double-doubles or triple-doubles.Hopefully we bounce back from this heart breaker with a win aginst Altimarus, and remember,LETS GO PATS!

Peterson blasts organizers, referees after substandard start

Kent Peterson, coach of the University of Catherina Phoenixes and of the Delaclava national team, heavily criticized both the organizers of the 8th International Basketball Championships and the referees in Delaclava's games after Delaclava ended the first half of qualifying with a 1-3 record.

Peterson, who has won thirteen national championships in 25 years coaching for Catherina and has coached the #6 Delaclava team in all five of their IBC appearances so far, told DNBSports in an interview that the organizers have been sloppy and disorganized thus far. "These guys have no idea what they're doing. Their athletic committees have hosted tournaments before, and when the committees of the rest of the world selected Civil Citizenry to host these Championships, they were under the impression that the organization of the tournament would be high-quality and smooth. Not so.

"Sure, our committee voted for Carasatoga's bid. They've had more valuable hosting experience and had shown more of what it takes to run a major tournament. But we were at least under the impression that Civil Citizenry's committee could put together a smoothly run tournament. At this point, I believe even Vantelira could have done a better job."

When we asked Coach Peterson to elaborate on what has gone wrong with the organization, Peterson said, "First of all, they had to kick someone out of the tournament because they can't count, which goes completely against the spirit of competition. Then they were assigned to update the rankings because the normal rankings bureau had a backup and needed someone else to do it. But then, they needed to have the DOC do part of their work. The DOC had plenty else on their plate, and it was a rather trivial task, but their organization couldn't take the time to carry it out. Finally, they changed the entire schedule right before the tournament started.

"And that was just before the tournament. Delaclava hosted the 7th edition, and the DOC did a fantastic job hosting. Other than a minor cough after the first group stage where some people in the DOC building contracted Grigoro and work was delayed, all of the matches were perfectly on time. But just the second day of matches this time around, our first match, all of the matches got pushed back a few hours, and only Margaret knows why, but it wreaked havoc on transportation and scheduling. And as anyone who's been participating in these tournaments for a long time knows, compromising these two factors can be a great equalizer of teams, even of extremes, which is what happened to us against Jimmer Fredette. And then, apparently the official website's live scoreboard didn't even get put up until the games were over. Then our most recent game was postponed for days, with no hint as to when it would be played."

Peterson also had words to say about the referees that Civil Citizenry's organizers have to sent to officiate Delaclava's games: "When we played Jimmer Fredette, we were easily controlling the game, up 15 points or so at the half. Then I decided to put in a few reserves but forgot to check them in, and we decided to take the technical rather than wait. For some reason, from there on the referees seemed to hate us, and they kept calling fouls on us and not calling fouls on them. Their big guys, Wayne Buster and Bryan Shine, kept throwing elbows inside, that's why Kristoff Guerrera has a broken jaw and Seth Ortega has two broken ribs. And then their sneaky little point guard Thomas Prichard punched al-Saddiri Qaspeth in the face and broke his nose. That was three of our five starters out, and the referees didn't do a thing, just kept calling cheap things on us."

Peterson acknowledged that the referees in the Swartaz, Taeshan, and Altimarus games were satisfactory, although the Altimarus referee "didn't seem to like much contact and physicality, which favored a weaker and less tough opponent like Altimarus. But what those referees in the Jimmer Fredette game have done have significantly affected our teams performance. A team simply can't play at their best with three starters out. It hurts skill, it hurts chemistry, it hurts morale. And for that kind of power to be in the hands of horrible referees and a dirty team, that's absolutely disgraceful."

Peterson, who is a member of the DBA executive board, said that he will be pressing the DOC to support a Delaclav bid for the 9th International Basketball Championships. "This great competition needs to get back in responsible hands as soon as possible, and I believe if you want a job done well, do it yourself."

Peterson's University of Catherina Phoenixes, who are being coached by his assistants while he is coaching the national team, have started the season 9-0 and are currently #2 in the national rankings.
