Well, it's been over a year I think, so I feel like doing this all over again. What are some forgotten conflicts that you think are either hilarious, depressing, or generally memorable?
Vandengaarde wrote:My choice to start this off is a war that occurred in America in the second half of the 1800's, a fight on the soil of the United States against an enemy who had come from the very same land.
I am talking, of course, about the Dakota War of 1862, a conflict in southern Minnesota that I only know about due to a history class and have never heard talked about since.
Basically, the traders on native reservations were cheating the tribes, and they decided to rebel against the state of Minnesota. The U.S. army was called in to strike them down, but hundreds of townspeople were killed by swarms of natives, causing people to move from their old homes and the largest hanging in U.S. history, when 38 natives were hanged in Mankato, Minnesota. Originally, 303 natives were to be hanged, but Abraham Lincoln pardoned many of the death sentences.

The Corparation wrote:Not one of those has had a lesson that lasted more then five minutes. Grenada and the Kosovo War are never mentioned. Shay's and Whiskey are mentioned only in passing. My classes have spent more time on Korea (Not much) then all 5 of those conlicts combined.

Oh because the complete and total destruction of a superpowers naval and land forces by a third world power that had almost no naval forces or any means to fight a global war at the time.
