Lord Almighty Gregory's Speech to the People

"Good evening, ladies, gentlemen, and slaves. I speak to you today from Ilyseum, previously the Realm of the False Gods, but at least temporarily the Realm of the False Gods and One True God, as I am here preparing for the Olympia Games. But I digress. Let me talk about what is really important.

"Earlier today, in Hannasea, our brave, noble Enemy Crushers crushed to death five fans of the wicked, heathen nation of Beaverriver. These wicked, heathen fans were holding a sign which declared, in full blasphemy, that I, Lord Almighty Gregory, am not God. Everyone who is remotely intelligent knows that I am God, but these Beaver Brains did not. They insisted on holding the sign and paid with their lives.

"To start, I would like to congratulate our brave, noble Enemy Crushers for crushing this heathen scum. They will be rewarded, both on Earth, with a 100 billion greggygodbuck reward, and in the Land of Eternal Reward, where they are surely headed when they should pass this mortal coil. However, it is more important to deal with the Beaver Brain scum.

"Thereofre, effective immediately, Beaverriver is added to the Enemy List. This means that anyone who kills a Beaver Brain will receive a one billion greggygodbuck reward. Obviously, killing Beaver Brains is legal in Gregoryisgodistan now. However, the Beaver Brain national teams are exempt, as is anyone dedicated to the overthrow of the government of that wicked, heathen nation. Beaverriver will pay for their sins, and they will pay dearly. Someday, we will nuke them into oblivion as we will do ultimately with all the Enemy List nations. We did it to Hicana, we did it to Associated Godlands, we did it to Vjaalsburg, we did it to Asuraia, and we will do it to everyone else on the Enemy List as well. Then the world will accept me as Lord and Master. More on nuking later in this speech. Stay tuned.

"Right now, however, let me finish talking about Beaverriver. In addition to killing all citizens of Beaverriver, it is now open hunting season on all beavers in Gregoryisgodistan, to symbolize our hatred for the Beaver Brains. One may kill the beavers with their bare hands or with any weapon which they are lawfully allowed to possess. Or get creative, pour gasoline on them, and light a match or something. Just kill all the beavers. Anyway, for each dead beaver you turn into a Gregoryisgodistani police station, you will receive a ten million greggygodbuck reward. Soon, we will wipe all the beavers and all the Beaver Brains off the map. They will all be destroyed.

"Speaking of being destroyed, now it is time for me to talk about other matters. There is a certain nation on our Enemy List, a nation with a fruity name whose mere mention is a vile sin against me, the One True Lord, but which I will simply call Xylocarpstan (OOC: it is Coconutstan.) Xylocarpstan, by giving themselves their actual vile name, has created a sin against me, the One True Lord. Worst of all, many of the citizens of that wicked, heathen nation, are actual, sapient xylocarps who choose to call themselves by the forbidden synonym. These fruits are an abhorrence to me, the One True Lord, and must die. Therefore, within a few short months, we will be nuking Xylocarpstan into oblivion, making them the fifth nation which we will have nuked into oblivion. All of those xylocarps, or should I say xylocraps, will die. They will be vaporized or burnt or dead of radiation poisoning, or something. That entire wicked nation will be destroyed. Oh yes, they will. They cannot fight us, they cannot stop us, we will destroy them in just a few short months. They won't know when it happens until it happens, and then they still won't because they'll be dead. Sure, the humans there will realize it when they wind up in the Land of Eternal Punishment being sliced by a Brownie Cutter of Death for all eternity, but xylocarps are just fruits and will neither end up in the Land of Eternal Punishment nor the Land of Eternal Reward. They are just fruits, and fruits die when they die, they don't move on to the afterlife. Same with the xyloponies, xylohumans, and other xylo hybrids. They will just cease to be like all fruit does when they die.

"And this is not unique to our faith. Other heathen religions share it too. Christians do not believe fruit goes to heaven or hell when it dies. Sure, you can eat fruit in the Land of Eternal Reward, you can eat whatever you want, for it is the Land of Eternal Reward. You can eat whatever you want, you can do whatever you want, it's the Land of Eternal Reward. It exists to reward you for being holy and noble. But anyway, the fruit in the Land of Eternal Reward isn't dead Earth fruit. It's fruit which was created by me, the Master of the Multiverse, specifically for that purpose. After all, I created the Multiverse, I created the Land of Eternal Reward, and I created the Land of Eternal Punishment. I created everything. But the dead Earth fruit just dies, it doesn't go to the Land of Eternal Reward. And if it did, it certainly wouldn't go there to be eaten. It would go there to be rewarded. But it's fruit, so it doesn't. Now, maybe fruits sentenced to the Land of Eternal Punishment could be eaten repeatedly in the Land of Eternal Reward instead of being sliced forever with the Brownie Cutter of Death, but that assumes fruits have a degree of intelligence which they do not have. They are fruits. They are stupid. And as such, after they die, they are neither rewarded nor punished. They just cease to be. This is what happens to all non-sapient beings. The only known sapient beings are humans, as we are the only sapient beings on Earth. However, intelligent aliens, if they exist, can be sapient as well, and thus be considered intelligent beings under Gregoryisgodistani religious and legal law. Alas, our scientists are not aware of any alien species, intelligent or otherwise.

"For now, I must wish you good night. But remember, I am your Lord, I am God, I will destroy our enemies with all my might, surrender now or prepare to fight."

Tough Draw, Tougher Opponent Up Next
What could have been an easy win, instead a tough draw. Now, up against Elejamie

Vaumort, Anthor(Herald) — Alright, so, the Duck's third foray into international competition wasn't as good as we wanted it to be, going up against an un-ranked team, you'd think we could at least then manage a victory, especially looking so crisp after beating out Fisicia in a friendly match the week before the World Cup on shootout, even though they lost the next friendly at home, and then winning another blowout friendly win a few days later, you think that match form would transition over, but apparently not, as they dropped a draw last night, 1-1 against Tobiasia. Now, we did see a few sparkles of hope, namely in that goalie Aric Langely is still proving himself as one of the best goalies the Ducks have ever fielded, and yes, he gave up a goal, but I mean, when Pearson and Deschamps were struggling all night to provide the kind of quality hockey we expect from them, he can only do so much I think, so I hold it more on them as defenders, then him.

Now, if that's not a tough pill to swallow, we're up next against Elejamie. Yeah, the second-best international hockey team in the world at the moment, and world champions two years removed, even though they still have most of the team from that all-or-nothing season, so we have this crucible veteran lineup against our wonderful Ducks - who, for the record, have won a magically low number of 2 games, in a total of more then 11 international games. How? Don't ask me, their performance in the Intra-Regional Cup here back home is nothing short of what is expected, but really so much more, winning like they should, playing with explosiveness like they do in the NHA, I mean, even with their lack of success, Graham Roberston is a household name in Anthor and will retire a legend, Poindexter is one of the heirs to the vanguard of amazing first teamers - but can they here, in their third international appearance, score up an upset against Elejamie, and then Consumar?

I think this year has all the makings of an upset if there is ever - head coach Lucius Horn somehow managed to secure a one year extension on his contract, despite rumors of a sacking if he didn't make it to the Round of 16 last Cup, and all of these players went to a three month long training camp with Horn and his entire assistant coaching staff, re-honing on teamwork basics, joint maneuvers and new techniques that are more aggressive then they have with the past, something that Poindexter is calling a 'cannon offense'. Haven't seen it yet, but for the love of the Gods, let's see it now.

Anyways, Horn says his boys have been training extra hard for this upcoming match, he's going to keep both Deschamps and Pearson in, but he's said he had Thorpe, the wonder kid who filled in after injures in World Cup 29, take some extra practices with the first line, just in case he makes the switch. He said they're going to be focusing on bringing waves of attacks, utilizing substitutes when needed, making full tactical use of the depth of his roster, and hoping to combine the unique skillsets, such as the power ferocity of Poindexter, with the chilled experience of Robertson, and the sheer talent of Hunter, all with every other skills of the other 2 lines, and hopefully end up with a win. Let's see, I'll be setting front bench hoping to get some nice shots - give it to them Ducks!

Mercedini Sports Daily
World Cup of Hockey
Matchday 3: Sjovenia vs Mercedini (56)

Mercedini got their second victory of the campaign and jump back into the second spot in the group after cruising to a 1-0 victory over unranked Sjovenia in their third group stage match. An opening period which defined the match was all in took for Mercedini to open their account against a Sjovenia side which was relatively absent for the whole game, not challenging Arkenton in the Mercedini goalmouth for large portions of the game. Another clean sheet for defensive pairing Peter and Ian Pollock shows why their move to NovaZemlyan team Lokomotiv Nezaemy proved to be a wise move and shows the defensive prowess of the two brothers from Mercedini. The win sees Mercedini move back up to the crucial second place in the group after Ficiscia were overcome by a strong Nova Anglicana, 2-1. Mercedini are now 3 points ahead of Ficiscia, but the team in green and black have a game in hand, where they will play and expect to beat Sjovenia before it all comes to a head in the final group game which will see Mercedini play Ficiscia for a spot in the last 16

Mercedini set out their intentions clearly in a first period which blew away the unranked nation from the get-go. The Pollock Brothers were defensively astute in the opening period, as they successfully attempted to block all Sjovenian attacks before they materialised and became dangerous. The opening goal came 3 minutes from the end where Max Morton scored his second of the campaign which was a flick from an acute angle which found its way between the Sjovenian goalie's legs and into the net. Several penalties from both teams marred proceedings in the match, but when the horn blew for the end of the period, Mercedini still found themselves a goal up.

For the second period of the match, the Mercedinian coaching team elected to go much more defensive, in hope of conserving energy before their BYE match and their crucial game against Ficiscia in two days time. Lambeth Carpic stole the show in the second period with a great collection of dribbling moves aswell as potential assists for his teammates, which they failed to put away and increase their advantage over the unranked side. Sjovenia began to find the footing in the game, with several clear cut chances from the front three coming very close to finding an equaliser in the match, but the Pollocks and Carl Arkenton made sure they wouldn't be denied a second clean sheet of the campaign. When the horn blared out, Mercedini were still a goal up, but Sjovenia were getting into the game more and more, the Blue Bears had to be wary.

The final period of the game was a lot closer than many anticipated and essentially ended up in a stalemate between the two nations. Thankfully, Mercedini had their goal advantage which they held onto, not after a couple of scares from the Sjovenian front three. One in particular was particularly memorable, where a comedy errors from both the Sjovenian attack and Mercedinian defence led to a scuffed shot, which was deflected wide and into the crowd, which led to a small delay to retrieve the puck and tend to minor injuries in the audience. When the match finished, Mercedini still held the only goal of the match which gave them the second win and their second 1-0 victory of the campaign. Hey! They all count!

FINAL: Sjovenia 0 - 1 Mercedini (56)
(0-1) (0-0) (0-0)

(OOC: Sorry this is so late.)

Espars take game one against Northi Arabia, lose Clausen

Old Blopping, Hannasea

The Espars have entered the 31st World Cup of Hockey with a 3-1 win over Northi Arabia... and a little intoxicated from the stadium they were playing in. It's made from old wine caskets. Weird.

Esparmuran has made virtually no change to their roster since the WCoH 30, in fact they only replaced defenceman Asger Kaspersen with a returning Erik Morris. Kaspersen left the World Cup of Hockey 30 without any points, and decided to stay home with his wife and daughter in Gudsø. Morris left after the monumental 27th World Cup, and now has decided to return to the Games.

Esparmuran started the scoring with Paul Lauritsen taking advantage of a Northi Arabian line change to hit Ole Henriksen with a stretch pass. Henriksen's slap shot from the middle part of the left circle went right over the blocker of Northi Arabian goaltender Mohammed Fel six minutes into the first period.

And just like with the last tournament, we have another injury in the first game. Haven Clausen, who has been with the Espar team since their WCoH debut, suffered an concussion late into the first, after colliding with Northi Arabian right-winger Elak Sunë. Clausen skated past the Arabian red line quickly after coming off a late line change while the rest of the team was already in the offensive zone. Clausen attempted to receive a pass from Devereux Bone but crashed into Sunë which knocked off his helmet. Sunë was fine, but Clausen hit his head on the ice after falling and did not get back up. He will be out for the rest of the tournament.

Espar captain Orrell Beake, who was injured for almost the entire 30th WCOH, scored at 10:11 of the second period with the help of a bounce of the puck off the end boards that put it on his stick near the left post.

"Losing Clausen is tough, he's a team player and the funniest guy in the locker room" Beake said after the game. "but we're not going to lose focus now. We've got three more games and three more teams to beat. With a lot of courage and a little luck we can go a long way. Maybe we can get to the finals again, maybe we can win the tournament. All I know is we're going to keep going one-hundred percent. We've had the luck to be in an easy group, and we're going to take advantage of that."

Darian Sidney would end up scoring the final goal for the Espars two minutes before the second intermission. Beake, coming across the red line at the left side passes it to Bailey Royston who makes a fantastic backhand pass to Sidney who tips it in on the right side for his first of the tournament.

Entering the third period, the Espars had a great chance to make it 4-0 when left-winger Kay Falk caught a breakaway but missed the shot.

The Northi Arabians would finally get one on the board, in the dying moments of the third period and with an extra attacker. Zapal Kentoko put it in after catching a rebound shot by fellow Arabian Victor Van Gegh. They would not score another.

In other group news, Cheongji and Qasden went at it, ending in a 1-1 tie. Nassau-Hessen had their bye...

NOVAYA ZEMLYA STRUGGLES AT WORLD CUP OF HOCKEY
Veteran coach calls out team for bad preparation - "Send the junior team over"

OLD BLOPPING, HANNASEA After two games and a bye day, Novaya Zemlya sits in a wildy unimpressive third place in Group of Alchemists at the World Cup of Hockey in Hannasea. The Novozemlyans have yet to register a win, as they followed up the 2-2 opener against Aquitayne with another 2-2 tie yesterday against Kaboomlandia. Gennadiy Ponikarov is one of many to announce his displeasure with the team's performance. The former Partizan coach and 4-time NZEL champion has found a new job as a hockey analyst at PBN radio, and he did not hold back in his criticism following last night's game.

"I am very disappointed in the team so far," Ponikarov said. "This group of players should be able to perform at a much higher level. I think it comes down to preparation. You look at elite teams like Ficiscia and Elejamie. What did they do before the World Cup? They played a number of tough friendlies to get their teams up to speed. What did the Novozemlyans do? From what I'm hearing, and from some disturbing instagram photos, they were hitting some sunny beach somewhere in Rushmore, sipping Pina freakin' Coladas. It is unacceptable. In my opinion it's a leadership issue. Fire everybody! Send the junior team over there instead."

In a post-game interview head coach Bogdan Bobr adressed Ponikarov's comments.

"Gennadiy Ponikarov is a bitter old man who probably hopes to steal my job one day," Bobr responded. "Let's not forget we have played two good hockey teams. As for Aquitayne, this is not the first time we ran into trouble against Astyrian teams. And Kaboomlandia made the semifinals last year. They are certainly no slouches. You can't win them all."

There is still a chance to make it through to the knockout rounds, provided Novaya Zemlya wins the two remaining games against Second Ndakene Federation and Parah. There is, however, no margin for error and even with two wins failing to advance could still be a distinct possibility. A Novozemlyan group stage exit, for the first time since WCoH 26, would be a fiasco of monumental proportions - would Bogdan Bobr be able to survive such a scenario? Most experts and analysts seem to think that he would be fired within seconds, but Bobr himself remains calm.

"As usual, I am not going to discuss my job security," Bobr commented. "My focus right now is winning games. I'll leave the speculation to you."

For next game against Second Ndakene Federation, Bobr announced that Anton Lopatin will get the nod in net, and Leonid Tikhonenko will draw into the line-up to try and spark the power play which is desperately needed. In two games, the Novozemlyan PP has produced 0 goals and only 4 shot attempts, of which 3 missed the net by a wide margin and 1 was blocked by Kaboomlandian defenseman Derek Strachan.

"Let me be clear," Bobr added. "We are not satisfied with two points after two games. We can play a lot better than what we've shown so far, and I am certain the boys will prove the doubters wrong."

About Northi Arabia

The Most Serene Republic of Northi Arabia is a massive, socially progressive nation, ruled by President Shapizzle as a benevolent dictator whom the people adore, and notable for its ridiculously successful economy, absence of elections, and environmental beauty. The compassionate, hard-working Northi Arabians enjoy extensive civil freedoms, and the free market is left relatively alone.

This is the first World Cup of Hockey for Northi Arabia. The only other sports competitive sports tournament that Northi Arabia has participated in is Handball World Cup 17. So while Northi Arabia has started to invest a lot of money in sports facilities and training, Northi Arabia will still most likely get its' ass kicked.

Snow is only common in the northern provinces of Al-Hajman and Al-Mihazi, so it is only popular there and the only good players are from there. Another thing that is unusual about the hockey team is that they had no idea they were even a thing, only after Northi Arabia signed up (in order to grow and become part of the NS community) were they actually scouted and organised.

HK Brugge Takes Beating, Still Standing

Image
(HK Brugge shown in Yellow, Red, and Black colors)

Earlier today, the 29th of August, was the start of the World Cup of Ice Hockey XXXI, at least for the Sjovene Team HK Brugge. It was Sjovenia vs Mercedini during today's match up and it was Mercedini who took away the win. The end score for the

game being Sjovenia 0 and Mercedini 1. The game was definitely one that was not predicted as this was HK Brugges first official World Cup ever. There was no previous data to go off of and there was no way to compare statistics. The Regional

Sjovene Championships is totally different from the World Cup. None the less....It wasn't the proudest moment for Sjovenia or fans of HK Brugge.

The match started with the two teams skating onto the rink while music played by the band Blur. Mercedini took to the ice as the Sjovene team came out and both circled around the rink a couple of times waving to fans slowly getting warmed up.

After some time the match began with a whistle blow and the dropping of the puck. Mercedini got hold of the puck and started the play. HK Brugge immediately went onto defense, something the team knows very well. Mercedini got the drop on

Sjovenia a couple more times but it was no match for the defensive play of HK Brugge.

Throughout the rest of the game it was an intense back and forth battle seeing the usage of great offensive and defensive maneuvers. In the end Mercedini scored in the 2nd period when a skater blissfully passed number 34 and took a slap shot.

Zoran Paris, Goalie during the score, dropped down on both knees trying to capture the puck but he was just a tad bit short on the catch as the puck barely tapped his catcher and bounced off the Goal post. Air horns sounded while Mercedini

jumped for joy and the crowds went wild. HK Brugge made some hard come back attempts but it all fell short as they were unable to recover.

To see more indepth coverage tune in tonight at 10 as we play a rerun of the match (previously shown live) along with interviews of the players and the coaches for HK Brugge. We apologise for not having their roster up as the coaches for HK

Brugge have refused to release any set-in-stone player rosters. Hopefully soon we can get that posted! Hope you enjoyed the game...up next Formula 1 at the Srbren Circuit!

"... Over to John Daverson now, as he talks us through the third day of the World Cup of Hockey. John?"

That's right, Steve! Good morning, Elejamie! The Icy Elephants are just one win away from securing a place in the next round of the World Cup of Hockey thanks to a 4-1 win over Anthor. The Ducks, who were hoping to add on to their 1-1 opening draw against Tobiasia, were hoping that a win against Elejamie would give them the boost they needed to make it to the Round of 16. Unfortunately, this result now means they'll have to win their next games against Cosumar and the Greater Vakolicci Haven if they're to stand a chance of making it through to the next round. And so, here are the highlights:

The first period was a slightly dull affair with several missed chances. Anatoly Kasputin very nearly got the match going with a slap shot that was hit the post, with Anthoran goalie Aric Langley throwing himself onto the puck and forcing a face-off shortly afterwards. Cerin Meloten's wrist shot was also blocked by Langley, who knocked the puck away with his glove. Darian Gustave very nearly opened up the scoring for the Ducks when his slap shot caused the puck to sail over the crossbar, with Adam Keane clearing it shortly afterwards. No penalties either although, less than a minute before the period ended, Meloten bagged his first goal of the game, a sly backhander that just went under Langley's glove, with Kasputin and Lupe being credited with the assists. Anthor very nearly pulled one back, with Darian Gustave just passing it to Benjamin Elwin who was lining up for the one-timer; however, the klaxon went off and, at the end of the first period, the score was 1-0 to Elejamie.

The second period saw Anthor succeed in levelling the scores early on, when barely over a minute into the period, Lane Hunter performed an excellent check on Francisco Solano, stole the puck from him and passed it to Graham Robertson, who netted it in with a shovel shot. However, the Anthorans' celebrations were short-lived when, roughly eight minutes later, Stacy Saunders regained the lead for Elejamie with a slap shot and assistance from line-mates Paul Morton and Bill Harrison. In fact, roughly two minutes later, it was 3-1 for Elejamie with Meloten scoring his second of the night, asssited by Solano and, for the second time in the match, Anatoly Kasputin. Unfortunately, Elejamie's celebrations were short-lived as Solano would receive a two minute minor shortly afterwards for boarding Cameron Kilby, although fortunately Elejamie managed to kill off the penalty. They would have to kill off another penalty five minutes later when Danilo Barajas was sent to the box for two minutes for slashing Kenneth Thorpe. At the end of the second period, the score was 3-1 to Elejamie and the Ducks needed a miracle if they wanted to stay in the game.

Unfortunately for them, there was no third period miracle. Shots by Poindexter, Hunter, and Rounds either missed their target or were saved easily by Cervantes. Even when they had two powerplay advantages - one roughly four minutes in when Paul Morton received a minor penalty for interference and the other less than halfway through when Franny Solano had to come off, also for interference - they were unable to net the puck. In fact, with roughly five and a half minutes to go, Ethan Swinburne, backed up by Aaron Andrews and Carlos Sierra, hammered the final nail in the coffin when he scored Elejamie's fourth goal of the night, with a wrist shot that bounced off the post and into the back of the net. With just over two minutes left to go, we saw the only Anthoran penalty of the match, where Roderick Deschamps received a two minute minor for interference. Fortunately for them, the Icy Elephants were unable to score anything on the resulting powerplay, although Cerin Meloten very nearly scored a hat-trick when this snap shot was just saved by Langley. Eventually, the match ended 4-1 to Elejamie, who now sit comfortably at the top, five points ahead of their final group stage opponents, the second placed Tobiasia.

In a post-match interview, head coach Michael Madgwick said "Another good game from the boys. Cerin got a couple of good goals, very nearly a third too. Stacy and Ethan also netted a couple of good ones as well. Toni did a great job in goal as well, to the point where tomorrow I'm going to give him a little break and either stick Pedro or Peter on. I'm just going to say it, kudos all round."

"Tomorrow will be your last group game. Do you think you'll take that one as well??"

"Absolutely. While I wouldn't exactly compare them to, say, Ficiscia, Tobiasia have actually been doing quite well so far, just a couple of points behind us with a win and a draw. Plus they're having their bye day so they're obviously going to be energised, which might put the edge on us. However, they. Either way, this is quite possibly the all-important match, seeing as it means whether we'll definitely be through or the other teams have to play poorly if we're to stand a chance, so a win or a draw would be helpful. Fortunately, I don't really see Tobiasia causing us any problems, so I'm going to say that we've got this one in the bag."

In the other Guild of Pepperers Group match of the day, Cosumar came back from their bye day to beat the Greater Vakolicci Haven 2-0. Indeed, there has been no changes in the group standings, with the Vakoliccis remaining in last place with three losses from three games. Fortunately for them, they've got a day off today, meaning that the team can get some practice for their big game tomorrow. Meanwhile, Anthor will see if they can finally get a win as they play Cosumar and, most importantly of all, Elejamie will take on Tobiasia to see if they'll be among the first teams to qualify for the next round. Will they make it to the Round of 16 for the 5th tournament in a row? Or will they have to settle for second place. Find out tonight on Puck Drop!

Meanwhile, over in the Guild of Alchemists Group, there was a brace of victories as Kaboomlandia beat the Second Ndakene Federation and Aquitayne won their match against Parah by the same scoreline - 4-0. Aquitayne, who remain at the top of the group with seven points, were hot off the heels of a 4-1 win against the Second Ndakene Federation...

Northi Arabia Takes Good Old Fashioned Beating, Less Than Spectacular for the Lads

Northi Arabia's campaign has been less than satisfactory for the boys so far after a rough start to this World Cup. In all honesty this isn't really a surprise for the Northi Arabians because it is their first competitive hockey tournament but still, get your shit together lads.

Cheongji were hoping to get revenge on Northi Arabia who against all odds knocked them out of the Handball World Cup. Cheongji are ranked 56 in this Hockey World Cup so they should take this quite comfortably. With their famously defensive style of play they easily kept Northi Arabia at bay however Mohammed Fel making fine saves and quite literally saving Northi Arabia's ass. 0-0 final score.

Next Northi Arabia took on Esparmuran the runners-up of the World Cup of Hockey 27. They are an incredible team yet Northi Arabia in general optimistic spirits thought they had a chance at winning, they were so wrong. 6 minutes in and already one goal down, the talented yet wildly inexperienced and high-tempered Elak Sunë making a reckless tackle on the veteran Haven Clausen and that was Clausen's World Cup dreams over for this World Cup. The Northi Arabian Court of Arbitration is launching an investigation into the incident but it remains to be seen if Northi Arabia would be willing to even penalise their star player. 3-1 Final Score, what a match.

Gregoryisgodistan 2–1 Nephara

"Good evening, ladies, gentlemen, slaves, and children of all ages. Welcome to Hannasea for Gregoryisgodistan's third World Cup of Hockey match, as they face the wicked Nephromancers of Nephara. This should be a good, violent, hard-hitting game, and we're just about ready to face off.

...

"16:03 left in the first period, Conover passes to Scannell, oh and a jarring hit from Enemy Crusher Bigward McFooples, all 888 pounds of him, and Scannell is down. He looks unconscious, maybe dead. But probably just unconscious. They'll stop play to get him medical attention, but no penalty for Enemy Crusher Bigward McFooples. Anyway, the Gregoryisgodistanis are celebrating as if he's dead, but he may not be. "Ding Dong! Nephara's dead! Which old Nephara? All of them! Ding dong, the wicked Nephara's dead!"

"And now while the EMS tends to Scannell, the Enemy Crushers are burning flags of Nephara and the Gregoryisgodistani fans are chanting "DEATH TO NEPHARA!" and clapping wildly. And now they start to throw stuff at the Nephromancers in the crowd, as they like to do. Prune juice, gruel, poop, pee, flares, rocks, anything they can get their hands on. And some more chants.

"Finally, Scannell is taken off the ice in a stretcher, but not a body bag, so presumably he's still alive, and we're ready to resume play here in Hannasea.

...

"12:03 left in the first period, and some idiot has just thrown a forbidden fruit on the ice right before the faceoff. It doesn't look like it came from the Nephromancers in the crowd, rather from some random spectator from who knows where. And now the Enemy Crushers are pouring into the stands and crushing the idiot who threw the xylocarp as well as everyone in the surrounding area for letting him do it. They've crushed 31 fans, and this is awesome. Do not throw forbidden fruits on the ice. They paid for their sins, and now it's time for the faceoff.

...

"6:13 left in the first, Enemy Crusher Krushallah Krushdumpy coming up the sideline, he's tripped up by Okochoa, and that will be a penalty. Two minutes for tripping on Okochoa. And now Enemy Crusher Krushallah Krushdumpy tries to tackle and crush Okochoa, but she jumps out of the way and Enemy Crusher Krushallah Krushdumpy belly flops on the ice. He'll try to chase her to the penalty box and crush her, but she gets away and they slam the door, so Enemy Crusher Krushallah Krushdumpy crashes into it. And now the refs are going to call two minutes on Enemy Crusher Krushallah Krushdumpy for charging, and he's furious and will crush all the officials to death. The crowd is going nuts, chanting "DEATH TO THE REFS!" and throwing more prune juice, gruel, and human waste at the Nephara fans and at the officials, as well as at the Nephara players on the bench. And now all the refs are dead and all the Nepharan players are covered in gruel. And now the Enemy Crushers are laughing at them. This is awesome!

"The alternate officiating crew is negotiating with the Enemy Crushers, and the two minute penalty will stand but no ejection. So we'll play 4-on-4 for two minutes. Face-off won by Gregoryisgodistan. Enemy Crusher Ronald Fatgoat passes to Enemy Crusher Bigmac Fatfrize who goes top right - GOAL ICE SLAVES! THEY TAKE THE LEAD 1-0! And they're burning more flags of Nephara, flags of the Free Republics, and paintings of Dumpy O'Rumpy on the ice to celebrate. And the Enemy Crushers are celebrating by running into the stands and crushing random people. And here comes more prune juice and gruel being thrown. What fun!

...

"17:02 left in the second period, and there are some Nepharan flags burning in the stands, and the smoke is distracting the Nepharan players. While they gawk at the smoke, Weatherman 92UDH9111 picks up the puck, shoots, GOAL ICE SLAVES! NOW IT'S 2-0! And the fans are going wild and throwing some of the flaming, burning flags in the Nephara fan section and at the Nephara bench, along with burning gruel and prune juice containers. This is pure awesomeness!

...

"3:03 left in the second period, Carradine comes streaking down the ice, shoots, right into the chest of Enemy Crusher Porky "Fatso The Third" McFattel but it bounces free. Carradine shoots again but again it's into Enemy Crusher Porky "Fatso The Third" McFattel's chest and bounces free. A third shot also hits his chest, and a fouth, and a fifth. Enemy Crusher Porky "Fatso The Third" McFattel is just too big, he's taking up almost the entire goal and nobody can get it past him. They haven't been able to this entire tournament.

...

"5:02 left in the third period, still 2-0, Enemy Crusher Porky "Fatso The Third" McFattel has made 39 saves, there seems to be no way to shoot it past him. And what's this? Tsicaderis has the puck, and now he's taunting Enemy Crusher Porky "Fatso The Third" McFattel by asking him if he wants a, well, I won't say that word, it means the same as xylocarp. Surely that will earn him a crushing! And Enemy Crusher Porky "Fatso The Third" McFattel is indeed charging at him, but now he dishes it off to Devante, who has a wide open net. Enemy Crusher Porky "Fatso The Third" McFattel tries to get back, but it's too late, goal Nephara, 2-1, but it's probably too little, too late. And now Enemy Crusher Porky "Fatso The Third" McFattel is charging at Devante while his backup, Enemy Crusher Krushofski Krushinski jumps off the bench and charges Tsicarides. They're both down on the ground now attempting to crush them, but the entire Nepharan bench as well as some members of the Hannasea Police Force run onto the ice and are attemptng to lift them off in time. They use some teamwork to lift the two 800 pound Enemy Crushers, and unfortunately, those heathens will live, but they're in pain and will come off, at least for the rest of the game, to be checked out and presumably protected. And now the officials are gathering and are going to eject Enemy Crusher Krushofski Krushinski and Enemy Crusher Porky "Fatso The Third" McFattel for unsportsmanlike conduct, and will also eject Tsicarides for unsportsmanlike conduct since it was his taunt that started the whole thing. Meaning, with two ejections versus one, Nephara will have a one-man advantage for five minutes, and Weatherman 92UDH9111 will head to the box to serve it since the penalized players have been ejected.

"And now Enemy Crusher Porky "Fatso The Third" McFatte is crushing the locker room attendant on his way to the locker room, claiming another victim for the brave, noble Enemy Crushers. And he's charging into the stands and crushing 39 more random fans who heckled him! Were they from Nephara? Who knows, maybe they were, who cares? They're dead now. Anyway, we're ready to resume with Enemy Crusher Porky Porkbites in goal for the remainder of the game.

"30 seonds left, Ice Slaves on the penalty kill so they can ice it up 2-1, that's key. Face-off won by Gregoryisgodistan in their own defensive zone, sent down the ice towards the empty net, no goal, no icing either. 15 seconds left, Leadbitter chases after it but gets hit into the boards by Enemy Crusher Crushallov Dafree Republics, there's nobody else there, 10 seconds, five, now Enemy Crusher Crushallov Dafree Republics recovers it, sends it across, time expires, ICE SLAVES WIN AGAIN!

"And they're celebrating by burning 300 flags of Nephara on the ice along with effigies of all the players on Team Nephara, and the crowd is chanting "DEATH TO NEPHARA!" The fire will burn on the ice, possibly all night, as the Ice Slaves win their third straight. We'll see you again, tomorrow night."

The team of Serbs watched the Gregoryisgodistan-Nephara game. Why? Because Serbs hate Enemy Crushers. In fact, they wonder how these 800 to 900 pound men are even able to stand upright or skate fast enough.

"One of these days we'll play them and skate so fast that one or two of them will get a heart attack! And they resemble dead whales beached somewhere," Petr said to his teammates.

"Why are they going into the stands? And why are the refs not handing game misconducts to these big dudes?" Mila asked her teammates.

"I don't know, but we're just going to play a game of dump and chase if we must play those guys. They'll be wheezing by the 10 minute mark of the first period," Anton stated with a matter of fact grin.

The game continued then one of the players noticed something.

"Hey, that goalie is being baited out of the net with food!" Adrijana yelled out.

"Wow, this might be a useful tactic to how to remove those big fat Enemy Crushers. They are gluttonous men who will do anything to eat and crush people," Zdeno admitted.

"We should do this to keep the Enemy Crushers not focused on playing hockey if we must play them," Luca said.

"Death to Gluttonous Enemy Crushers!" the team chanted in a local pub.

The Espars win a game and lose a player two days in a row. Talk about mixed luck...

So yes, Esparmuran will take their second game of the tournament by defeating Qasden 4-2. They also lost another WCoH 24 original in Paul Lauritsen.

Lauritsen started the scoring off for the Espars, who scored moments after a power play ending to give his team the 1-0 lead 8:31 in the first period.

That would be the only scoring of the first period. In the second, things got a little more livelier after Darian Sidney scored his second of the tournament and Qasdonian left-winger Divna Grosser scoring on the power play. The Espars would end the scoring in the second with a nice backhander by Troels Carlsen, who now has his first World Cup of Hockey goal.

Things heated up a lot more in the third though, with Qasdonian defenceman Sissie Ewart getting into a scrap with Dan Rasmussen. Despite the two attempting to land some punches at each other, the officials broke it up before anything could happen and both were given just roughing minors.

Lauritsen would end up getting charged by a speeding Curi Namba, which left him on the ice. He has a fractured rib and will be out for the rest of the tournament.

Sisu Cassidy scored for the Qasdonians in the third to cut the Espar lead down to one, but Blaine Blackwood quickly replied with his first goal of the tournament to end the game. 4-2 Esparmuran.

In other group news, Nassau-Hessen defeated Cheongji two to nothing. Esparmuran faces Nassau-Hessen tomorrow.

The puck that would be Staucy Saunder's first goal, and the end to the comeback, going in past LangelyTH photo

Vaumort, Anthor(Herald) — Our fighting Ducks skated out onto the ice against Elejamie, hoping for an upset, knowing that such a thing was more then likely an insane idea, but they still dared to dream for it, because it would make the road to finally moving on past the group stage after three Cups just one step easier; but, Graham Robertson and his Ducks were reminded that like the reality is for many adults, this dream just wasn't possible and it was shattered last night as the Ice Elephants skated to a pretty solid, easy win over the Ducks, 4-1 in full time.

The match started out in the Ice Elephant's favor almost immediately, what with their man Anatoly Kasputin putting a slapshot in that Langely had to throw himself in front of to block, forcing a face-off that Deschamps cleared, and then once again, just a few short minutes later, another shot on Langely, this time he makes the save a bit more cleanly with his mitts, but still, Deschamps, Rounds, what gives guys? What's a goalie gotta do to get a little support from his defenders?

The Elephants scored the first of many with just a minute left in the first period, and Gustave and Elwin nearly hooked up for a dream equalizer, but sadly the period ended just before Elwin could drive through with his one shot that could have meant a closer score for the Ducks, or maybe given them enough to build on to go out there and get one - but sadly, that didn't happen, and once again, the Ducks drop it down. It's only by the graced of unranked Vakoliic that we remain just second to last, there's an important distinction after all, and we face our next match against the Consumar Ice Dragons, and match we will indeed need to win, in order to get somewhere this time around.

Now, normally, I wouldn't be surprised if I found the Ducks demoralized, and out of steam and hope for this try, but I've found quite the opposite, in fact captain Graham Robertson has whipped them up into something of a furor, charging them to not let the millions of us back home down once more, to go out and prove that such a collection of stars can play together on one ring of ice, and be successful, and to bring something back home for the fans. Word's already come in that Deschamps has been removed from first line, him and Kenneth Thorpe switched places, really, I must say Thorpe was playing his heart out on the ice today, and in the past few matches, so here's to seeing him continue to perform maybe he can help boost up that sagging defense - if him and Gustave can give Langely some breathing room so he isn't blocking shots every three minutes and actually maintain possession of the puck and then feed it up the ice to Hunter, Robertson or Poindexter, I'd say the Ducks stand a pretty damn good chance. Consumar isn't have the best go at it this year, so I think we can hit them right in the nose and walk away with that long coveted W. But, to my fellow Duck fans, whatever temple or church you attend, whatever God, give them the best dang sacrifice you can afford; the Ducks need our prayers.

Alright, come on, we knew if we can't win before, trying to take down Elejamie, a bit...impossible. But, I'd say Consumar is more then likely severely improbable.

As noted, a slightly delayed cutoff for MD4.

News:
  • National rail strike forces tournament delay.
  • Organizers apologize, deploy multiple Tactical Muffin Baskets in response.
  • Updated schedule available here.
  • Voting begins for "Team of the Tournament".

MD4 results, plus some probably only vaguely correct speculation on qualifying scenarios:

Mercers
Nephara 2–0 Tumbra
Ilyseum 1–1 Gregoryisgodistan

Code: Select all
Mercers                      Pld   W  D  L   GF  GA  GD  Pts

5 Ilyseum                        3   0  1  2    2   8  −6    1 E

* A win or draw for Nephara puts them through; a win for Beaverriver puts them through.

Prusy Krolewskie lost 1–0 on matchday 3

It's been a disappointing hockey tournament so far for the Reprezentacja Pruski with 3 losses in 3 games. On matchday 3, the Pruski lost 1–0 against the Unified Sunrise Islands. Being the home team, the Unified Sunrise Islands were wearing their dark colors and Prusy Krolewskie were in white. We didn't saw much action in the 1st period, both teams were mostly studying each other. With 15:38 remaining in the 2nd period, the Unified Sunrise Islands were on a two on one, Gabriel JØRGENSEN skates with the puck and tries to pass to Tyson SHARP but Stanislaw Wojciechowski blocked the pass, it was a perfect play by Stanislaw Wojciechowski, Tyson SHARP would certainly have scored if Stanislaw Wojciechowski didn't block that pass!

With 9:23 remaining, Maryse LEMAÎTRE receives a pass from Christer GÖRANSSON, Maryse LEMAÎTRE is on a breakaway but Krzysztof Klepczynski is catching her, he trips her. The Unified Sunrise Islands gets a penalty shot! Maryse LEMAÎTRE takes the penalty shot, she tries to beat Grzegorz Grzegorczyk on a spin-o-rama move but Grzegorz Grzegorczyk makes the save! With 4:44 remaining in the 2nd period, Marie LÉTOURNEAU skates withthe puck and dumps it into Pruski territory. Samuel Schöpf and Brian SKINNER are battling in the corners to get the puck. Brian SKINNER passes the puck to Hinata SUZUKA at the blue line. Hinata SUZUKA shoots but Grzegorz Grzegorczyk makes the save. Grzegorz Grzegorczyk doesn't controls the rebound and Marie LÉTOURNEAU shoots the puck into the net. It's a 1–0 lead for the Unified Sunrise Islands. We didn't see much action in the 3rd period and the game ended with a 1–0 score. Prusy Krolewskie had a bye on matchday 4 and has now 3 losses in 3 games. On the 4thand final game of the tournament, Prusy Krolewskie will play against Anglatia. Jaroslaw Jastrzebski' who got injured against Abanhfleft will be back in the line up.

Boxscore

1st period
no goal

2nd period

"... We now go to John Daverson, who has the news on Elejamie's final World Cup of Hockey group game. John?"

That's right, Steve! Good morning, Elejamie! The Icy Elephants have secured their spot in the round of 16 following a tough game against main rivals Tobiasia. With Peter Berg in goal instead of usual starter Antonio Cervantes, it seemed like a win was certainly on the cards for Elejamie. However, their opponents didn't go down so easy and, as a result, they had to scrape by with a 2-1 win. Here are the highlights:

The first period took a while to build up, with the first shot on target coming 67 seconds into the match - a wrist shot from Cerin Meloten that was deflected by Samuel Simpson's glove. In fact, Elejamie tried to break the deadlock - Stacy Saunders' wrist shot just went wide, Aaron Andrews' slap shot went over the bar, Pael Atenar's shovel shot was easily caught and Felipe Barajas' attempt to tip the puck in was disallowed when it turned out that he had accidentally moved the net - but it was Tobiasia who would score the first goal. With six minutes to go, Francis Rose opened the scoring for his team, with a wrist shot that slid under Peter Berg's glove. Although Elejamie tried to come back, with the closest being this slap shot from Ethan Swinburne that just sailed over the bar, it wasn't enough and, at the end of the first period, the score was 1-0 to Tobiasia.

The second period saw several good chances for Tobiasia to extend the lead. Matt Oban's snap shot shortly after the face-off was caught by Peter Berg. Drake Wallard's slap shot bounced off the post, with his rebound also being caught by Berg. Even when they had the powerplay advantage thanks to Francisco Solano receiving a two minute minor for interference, Tobiasia were still unable to put one past the Elejamian goalie. However, it wasn't exactly smooth sailing for us. Stacy Saunders nearly levelled the score when his wrist shot bounced off the post and into Simpson's glove. And, when Elejamie were on the powerplay because Ken Wallsom received a two minute minor for charging, Paul Morton probably would've scored the Icy Elephants' first goal of the night had he not been offside. At the end of the second period, the score hadn't changed and things were starting to look a little bleak for the Icy Elephants.

The third period saw Elejamie finally make a comeback. One and a half minutes into the period, Anatoly Kasputin equalised thanks to a clever pass from Cerin Meloten and a good snap shot that just sailed past Samuel Simpson. In fact, ten seconds later, Kasputin very nearly made it 2-1 when his slapshot bounced off the post and back into play, with Desmond Ruebeni managing to clear the puck before Anatoly could try again. Although Tobiasia had another advantage seven minutes into the period, when Felipe Barajas was given a minor penalty for slashing, they were unable to regain the lead. Indeed, eight minutes before the end, Douglas Devon received a two minute minor for slashing James Han; this lead to Kasputin finally scoring his second goal of the night on the power play when his wrist shot scraped the side of the post and went into the back of the net. A few minutes later, we saw the last penalty of the match when Roger Small clipped Felipe Barajas, resulting in a stay in the box for two minutes. However, no one was able to capitalise on this and, at the end of the match, the final score was 2-1 to Elejamie

In a post-match interview, head coach Michael Madgwick said "That was actually quite a tough match. I'm guessing that we either got lazy or that the Tobiasian defence is that good. Either way, Peter didn't do a bad job in goal and Anatoly scored a good couple. I would've loved to have seen more but that's the way things go. Besides, at least now I know if we need to improve anything or build upon anything if we're to stand a chance in the Round of 16."

"Who do you think will be joining you in the Round of 16?"

"It's a bit too early to say at this point. I mean, that rail strike's going to cause a few problems, so we'll have to wait a little bit longer to see if I'm correct. Still, if I had to pick... Tobiasia's got a pretty good chance. Again, they've got a good defence, probably because of that 4-3 win on their first day, so I'm going to say that they're probably going to join us. Anthor's also got a very good chance and it'd be nice to see them make it through after two failed attempts. Cosumar... I can see them barely making it but I wouldn't really put any money on it. And I'm pretty sure the Greater Vakolicci Haven are out now so they don't really count."

In a different post-match interview goaltender Peter Berg said "While I take full responsibility for letting in that goal - I should've saved it and I'm pretty sure Toni would've - I will admit that I'm still psyched for the next round. Hopefully I can squeeze in some more practice, do what I need to do to get myself up and ready, not just in case I start again or if Toni or Pedro need replacing but also I need the practice for the new ENIHL season."

In the other Guild of Pepperers Group match of the day, Anthor came back with a vengeance as they beat Cosumar 3-1. Indeed, the Ducks have now moved up to third place, just behind Tobiasia, whereas the Ice Dragons have slipped down to fourth. The Greater Vakolicci Haven, who still remain in last place with zero points, have also been eliminated from the competition with one game left to play. And, of course, Elejamie sit at the top of the table with twelve points, as well as thirteen goals for and three against, leaving them with a goal difference of +10. A far cry from the +22 we got back in Norrehavn but it's still pretty good.

Due to a nationwide 24-hour rail strike today over in Hannasea, all the remaining teams have been given an extra day off and there's no doubt that the coaches are going to use that to their advantage, giving their players a bit more practice before their final games. So, when they come back tomorrow, Anthor will play the Greater Vakolicci Haven, with a win being enough to see them through to the next round; whereas the winner of the Tobiasia/Cosumar match will see who'll take second or third, depending on how the Anthor game goes. And, of course, Elejamie's got two days off as a result of the strike, so they can get themselves ready for their Round of 16 game.

Meanwhile, over in the Guild of Skinners and Tailors Group, the hosts Hannasea have been eliminated following a 1-0 loss to group winners Nova Anglicana. The Ice Lions, who were the group favourites, had already grabbed their third win a row after a 2-1 victory over main rivals Ficiscia and were hoping that they'd grab that much needed fourth to see them through to the next round...

Ice Cat Things One Win Away from Knockout Rounds

The Vilita & Turori Ice Cat Things spent their off-day preparing for the big final matchday winner-take-all clash with the Republic of Arkan where three points will assure Vilita & Turori through to the next phase of the World Cup of Ice Hockey 31 competition. Any other result, however, could spell doom and gloom for the Ice-Cat Things who sit third in the group table going into the final matchday.

It has been an up-and-down World Cup thus far for Vilita & Turori. The Ice Cat Things traded results with The Serbian Empire and New Jarwel at the beginning of the competition on the opening two matchdays, defeating New Jarwel but being defeated in turn by The Serbian Empire.

The widely anticipated clash between Atlantian Oceania giants Valanora and Vilita & Turori occurred on Matchday 3. Unfortunately, it was a massive disappointment for all spectators. With the 31st World Cup of Hockey being run on a traditional rule set, there was no respite for the fans when the Marauders and the Ice Cat Things were stonewalled by each others respective netminders. With no goals on either end after an hour of play, the match ended with a whimper - neither side having done enough to ensure their qualification to the knockout stage - nor eliminate their rivals from competition.

With just one game left, it remains possible to see both Valanora and Vilita & Turori to advance - but equally remains a scenario where neither of the favored sides from Atlantian Oceania advances to the knockout rounds. Only time will tell.

Serbs Jar New Jarwel 1-0

The Serbs introduced a group of 4th line players who would pretty much knock guys into next month and the penalty minutes accumulated were incredible. The penalty totals were dominated by Gazdic, a goon for HC Ljubljana. Luca Gazdic accounted for two double-minor slashing calls, two fights (he won both of them), an instigator penalty, a boarding call, and one game misconduct. Anton Deschler scored the only goal on a power play assisted by Luca Kopitar and Mila Kanas. Deschler's one of the premier snipers of the Srbija Liiga with 31 goals in 60 games. Some say he may sought by higher leagues at some point if he can increase his assist totals. Some compare him to NHL player Brandon Pirri, a sniper who is known for being utter garbage with anything other than shooting.

A Dare to Dream, A Dash to the Finish
Somehow, they did it, the Ducks upset the #13 team in the world 3-1; they just need one more win, and some luck

Vaumort, Anthor(Herald) — Good ol GTV coming back to you here, bringing you the latest in sports news, specifically continuing our coverage of our third appearance in international hockey, as the Ducks in World Cup of Hockey 31.

The Gods are real, the Gods are freaking real, Praise them all!! Somehow, on some no less then divinely discerned miracle, the Ducks went into the match last night, faced up against the Ice Dragons and not only did we hold our own; THE DUCKS UPSET THE ICE DRAGONS!!!

This is perhaps the largest victory they have ever won, it was make or break it here and the Ducks captain'd by Roberston didn't show up to play, they showed up to fight, their new flashy techniques finally being on a showcase tour almost during the match and was definitely the contributing factor to their victory.

The game nearly didn't go our way, it began on the sourest note as their nimble forward, #25 Hugh Vargstenen, slipped through past Thorpe who tried checking Vargstenen's wingmate, and he suceeded in bringing Sholakh Marszal back onto their own side of the ice, but Hugh and Corzina Prentice slipped past him and the other Ducks to slam one right up in the top right hand corner of the net, whipping by Aric Langely's head as it soared between his head and the crossbar in a very narrow window, and this was about half way through the 1st period, and the Ducks now down, 1-0.

They got back from the half-break, and we already had hints of it all game, but it finally roared to life. What really started it was a game of cat and mouse, with the Ducks just passing it back and forth, unable to make a break through the Consumar defense , and then Consumar would repeat once they got the puck, but Tony Pearson charged on Alex Johnston and the sheer velocity and the fact that Tony had half a foot of height difference on him, sent the Ice Dragon to the ice and allowed Robertston to scoop in and steal the puck. He immediately pressed on the attack, slinging it to the other side of the boards at Hunter who passed it right off forwards through the legs of Terak Sconberg and back with Robertson before Hunter got crash-slammed into the boards by a surging Sholakh Marszal, but it was too late, the captain was in the house and he showed the Ice Dragons what he's been showing us back home for almost two decades; he did his famous "yo-yo" move, chucking the puck to Hunter, Hunter back to him, Robertson slinging it off to Poindexter, Poindexter slapping it back to him as they weaved through the defense, some classically executed misdirection with his stick and a very hard slapshot right through the flailing arm and leg of Nemanja Zamatin, the buzzer setting off around the arena with 5:11 left on the clock for the second period.

The Dragons didn't like they got equalized because they pressed back on the Ducks, even getting no less then five shots on Langely, all of which he skillfully thwarted though with a heavy dose of assistance from Deschamps, Thorpe and Pearson who were playing like All-Stars tonight, Pearson the rougher and Thorpe the mastermind, they definitely proved to be a tough nut to crack for the opposing side. At 1:58, Deschamps crashes Vargstenen with Pearson's help just like we imagined watching since 2 Cups ago, and Gustave swept in to steal the puck, only to slapshot that sucker along the boards half way down the ice, right into Poindexter's waiting stick, who then took no more then five skates including a well-timed duke around Okoloma Na'Gozi and he slapshot that sucker right under Zamatin's legs like a thread going into a needle, and that sent a roar that nearly broke the windows I think, because the Anthoran fans were roaring like lions and screaming like banshee's for a solid fifteen minutes after that lead-granting goal was scored.

The final nail in the coffin came on something the Ducks sorely undercapitalized on in the prior match with Elejamie; power plays. Consumar's Marszal got dinged with a few minutes in the good ol' penalty box and suddenly, the Ducks had a 4-man powerplay for two and a half minutes, with just 3:15 left on the whole game clock anyways. It started out slow, Benjamin Elwin getting the puck first, passing it over to Kilby who skated through a defender just nearly before passing it back under his legs towards Stoddard who rushed forward and sucked the puck up, and spun it right off back at Elwin, who passed it forward to Poindexter and that man duked not once, not twice, but three times, did a quick slap back to Elwin, who comes around the back end of the goal as Poindexter looks like he's about to collide, and then Elwin perfectly sets the puck up, tapping it ever so slightly around the corner but out enough for Poindexter to get to it first, and then he buried it in net.

The arena went crazy, it was a fantastic match even though the score was lopsided in Anthor's favor, I think the Dragons committed themselves very favorably, they made Graham and his boys fight for every piece of ice they took, and definitely for every goal - Graham got Man of the Match, but if there was Defender of the Game, definitely going to the Ice Dragons.

Regardless, with this impressive feat behind us, we have but one task left, sort of; defeating our final opponent, Greater Vakolicci Haven, who has been ranked last the entire time of this competition and has been sorely blown out in the past by other members of our group, so after they got a rest this week, the Ducks head in and take them on; now, they need to absolutely win to qualify, but then Tobisia needs to lose, or score less goals, or let more in, or I think you're getting the point. So, Graham said he and the boys are going to hit the showers quick and then keep drilling real hard; and he asked all candle factories to ship more out, because he says they'll need a little more help with the things outside the game.

It's funny because all they did was win one game - don't get me wrong though, that was the best hockey game I've watched, and I've been watching since I was 6 and I'm now 32. So intense of emotions being poured in, this game is going down in history, and I witnessed it. #DucksOrDeath

BYE Day Friendly: Mercedini vs Cosneolta

Mercedini breezed past unranked and inexperienced side Cosneolta in their BYE day friendly at the World Cup of Hockey. The match took place in the Cortex Centre in Zoloroni (home of the Zoloroni City Icers) and was a sellout crowd between the two familiar nations. Mercedini picked up a few helpful pointers for their all important game against Ficiscia which they need to win after Ficiscia won their match against Sjovenia by 3-0. Mercedini must win to secure their place in the knockout rounds. As for the match in Zoloroni, the management sent out fresh faces for their match against Cosneolta but it was all familiar faces on the scoresheet as they won 4-0 in front of their home crowd.

Cosneolta's dogged attack coupled with their rough defensive prowess gave them the upper hand over the ranked Mercedini and threatened to cause an upset in the opening minutes of the first period. However, Mercedini quickly set their stall out with a goal in the first period, a long pass from the defence by Peter Pollock found its way to Max Morton and a simple flick nudged the puck past the goalkeeper which opened the scoring. After that, the Mercedinian management sent secondary and tertiary attacking and defensive players onto the ice to give them some valuable playing time, should an injury of suspension occur to one of the primary players. No goals to speak of after Morton's shot, Mercedini went into the end of the first period a goal to the good.

Cosneolta's inexperienced team proved to be the defining factor in the second period with two defensive errors gifting goals to Arthur and Ian Pollock which tripled the Blue Bears' lead to 3-0. Cosneolta couldn't reply to the fast paced action that the Mercedinians were providing, a limp slap shot the only bright spot of the game for the visiting nation. The game was already well out of reach for the new nation. The second period was where Mercedini showed their class, 3-0 up at the end of the second

The third and final period of the match was more of the same, with other players showing what the could do with the puck, intricate play from the younger players on the Mercedinian roster gave a masterclass on how to keep possession. It was Arthur who found his second and Mercedini's fourth of the game which killed the Cosneoltans off. They never really gave any response after that. At the end of the game it finished 4-0, but Mercedini were never really troubled, the same can't be said for Ficiscia as they have shown their quality throughout the tournament and should provide more than still opposition for the Blue Bears. Mercedini with the 4-0 win, but the match that their need to win is coming up tomorrow.

FINAL: Mercedini 4 - 0 Cosneolta
(1-0) (2-0) (1-0)
Goal Scorers: Morton, Arthur (2), I. Pollock

Playoff game against Mercedini: We Are Ready!

Flavius Devirius from Hannasea - This is the big game that everyone is waiting for in this group right now. After a unlucky 1-2 loss against the top seed Nova Anglicana, Ficiscia came back brilliantly last night with a never-challenged 3-0 victory over Sjovenia. This crucial win brought the Lynx on par with Mercedini, with both teams having beaten Sjovenia and Hannasea but losing to Nova Anglicana. Ficiscia, who has been offensively dominant with 3.3 goals per game on average - a number only matched by Esparmuran and Aquitayne, as Elejamie needed four games for their 13 goals - faces a brutally efficient Mercedinian team who had only scored three times in three games, but also only allowed two goals, both in their defeat against Nova Anglicana. The more defensive playstyle of the Mercedinian squad benefits Ficiscia as they will go through on a tie thanks to superior goal difference.

It does, however, also benefit Ficiscia for another reason. Mercedini has so far only managed 0-1 victories against unranked teams, a result that is very hard to achieve against our boys. The scoring machine that is the second line of Muratus is raging with the Norja wingers Hejman and Thorvaldssenn, and all-time top scorer Sergius Marcantor is not showing any signs of weakness. Manuel Aleixos had opened the score against Sjovenia with his second goal of the tournament, and in general Ficiscia's ability to score with all lines of the team has proven decisive multiple times in the past. As long as the defense holds, things should be alright for the Ficiscian team. Nevertheless, it is important not to take Mercedini too lightly, as was shown by the match against Sjovenia when the first period was a mess and only Decimius Aedificor could keep the team from falling behind. As a reward for his great performance that ended in a shutout, Aedificor will be allowed a second match against Mercedini before the original starter Decimius Porcius will return to the goal for an eventual round of 16 game.

In the match against Sjovenia, the initial nervousness and light-headedness wouldn't disappear until the Sjovenians assisted our team with a unnecessary cross checking penalty in the second period. Until then, Ficiscia's game was dominated by overly risky passes and dekes that often caused puck losses and counter attacks. In the powerplay, it was Marcantor who had deflected a puck with his stick before hitting the rebound with his skate and pushing it over the line. There was a heated discussion among Sjovenian and Ficiscian players as well as the referees, but after a lengthy video review they decided there was a kicking motion and disallowed the goal. Nevertheless, it seemed to spark some kind of fire in Ficiscia's forwards who suddenly were driving to the net harder, being rewarded when Aleixos managed to sneak behind the opponent's defense line and got a pass from Vero right onto his tape. The hard one-timer of the young winger was no match for the Sjovenian goalkeeper's glove and Aleixos put it past him into the top right corner. Followed up by a Hejman wristshot on a counter and an empty-netter by Marcantor, Ficiscia managed a clear win over their unranked opponents.

With chances for qualifying still intact, it should be time to take a look on the possible opponents. We are not entirely sure what the mode for the schedule is like, but if we assume the old seeding mode, it can be expected that Ficiscia will place among the best nine-point teams. It is almost impossible to guess where this will place us as there are too many variables deciding that, but I think it is fair to assume we will be one of the top second-placers, so let's look at the first placed teams. Gregoryisgodistan will win the Group of Mercers before Nephara or Beaverriver, and after the experiences of the past - especially in the WJHC - this is an opponent we would like to avoid. However, the Ice Slaves have drawn last night against Ilyseum and their 10 points may mean we actually do end up with them. Abanhfleft or the United Sunrise Islands are possible opponents as well, and if the USI win their last game, they will actually be both in front of us. Neither of those ever played Ficiscia, but both would be rather tough opponents. The Group of Alchemists is almost impossible to call, but chances are we could face last year's semifinalists Kaboomlandia, who only conceded two goals so far. However, it may just as well be Aquitayne - or, depending on the mode, a revenge against Novaya Zemlya. However, this is an unlikely scenario, as the Novozemlyans cannot surpass Ficiscia even if they win their group.

The Royal Kingdom of Quebec will likely finish among the 10-pointers. How they will rank comparing to Abanhfleft, USI and Gregoryisgodistan depends on goal difference - they will be facing the Letwinist States last. The RK of Quebec was our opponent in Ficiscia's debut World Cup when they managed to push us off their home ice with a combined score of 2-8 in a BO3 series (1-3 and 1-5). Should they fail, the Apothecaries winner would once again have less points than Ficiscia. From the Launderer's group, another tough opponent could arise. Valanora and The Serbian Empire face off in the last game, the two top teams of that group. While the group is very tight for qualification after a rather disappointing 2-2 of Valanora against Arkan, only The Serbian Empire is still able to get more points than our team would in case of a victory. The Serbs would also rank amongst the likes of Gregoryisgodistan and Abanhfleft, and they'd probably be the best pick among these teams. Esparmuran is so far lossless and will play Cheongji in their last game. It is expected that they will keep their flawless record and not be Ficiscia's nect opponent. Same goes for Elejamie, except that they already finished the group stage and have a bye day today.

Now, should we tie against Mercedini, we'd qualify with only seven points. This is even harder to guess where we'd end up, but it can be guessed that the opponent in this case would be one of the 12-pointers. This means either Elejamie, maybe Esparmuran or a revenge against Nova Anglicana. In any case, the RO16 will be a tough one. Stay tuned on FNSN.fc or on TF2 to see live whether the team in black, white and green can make it again or will take their first group stage exit in history!

Prime Minster Elizabeth Melks' Statement on the Incident at the World Cup of Hockey and Gregoryisgodistan's Response

Today, the nation apologizes for the actions of a few citizens from our nation that occurred during the match against Gregoryisgodistan at the World Cup of Hockey in Hannasea. The action of those few individuals does not represent the views of tolerance and freedom of worship valued by many Beaverriverites. The government shall not oppress those who believe that Gregory is god The government admits part of the responsibility as the Ministry of State and Foreign affairs neglect to inform travelers to the tournament on safety precautions which includes avoiding possible references that Gregory, the leader of Gregoryisgodistan, might not be a god. The government is committed to keeping peace between Gregoryisgodistan and Beaverriver.

However, Gregory's comments threatening our people concerns many government officials and imperials our relationship between the Gregoryisgodistan and Beaverriver. Threats like this shall not be acceptable, especially towards a peace loving country like Beaverriver. The ministry has created a plan which includes registration for a draft if circumstances requires it and I will introduce the plan to parliament later this week for approval. Additionally, we have discussed with our ally Felinetopia about providing defensive weaponry which includes anti nuclear missile systems to insure nuclear strikes do not happen to Beaverriver. Ultimately, it's in their best interest for Gregoryisgodistan to not attack the nations without facing massive repercussions of such attack. May we pray that peace will reign throughout this land forever.
