When West Phoenicians think of winning sports thoughts move to archery, swimming, sailing, fencing and shooting and not just because members of the Royal Household have died under similar methods.
So it has come as a massive shock to witness Daniel Israeli take the gold in Men's Individual Gymnastics Pommel Horse. The strongest and most talented member of the Men's Gymnastics team he was original pegged as not having a chance by many sports writers back home. Daniel was able to prove them wrong by winning and becoming the first West Phoenician to win gold at the Olympics.
Women's Sailing also celebrated with Roccio Salvador pulling in a Silver, failing just short of becoming the first woman to win gold. High hopes also rest on Yael Israel to also pull in a medal as she has sat herself in the area of contention.
Overall it has been a disastrous debut for West Phoenicia, with such a large delegation they have only pulled in 5 medals so far.
The Men's Baseball and Women's Softball are two sports that have West Phoenicia on the edge of their seats. Both are still in the running to secure medals. The Men's baseball dominated their qualifiers and have done above average at this Olympics. They are a world class team and are likely to pull a gold, silver or bronze.
The Women's Softball has dominated their pool with 8 wins and no losses they progress to the Quarter Finals but Gold is on this teams mind. There secret to success is working as a team, tight fielding and strong batters.
