BoF39 Bid: Virabia/Aguazul

Postby Aguazul » Wed Jun 16, 2010 10:29 am

Virabia--a democratic republic, split between a cold north and a mild south, led by a bunch of pot smoking socialists, whose football fans fill the stadia and prompt extra seats--

and Aguazul--a "república" in name only, whose climate has turned from rainforest to desert, led by corrupt military officials, whose football fans like setting stuff on fire--

join forces to bring you Baptism of Fire 39.

Hey, football is all about teamwork.

Scorination

NSFS3 is scheduled to be released soon. Assuming a full release is available before the Baptism of Fire begins, we would use this scorinator; as a relatively small tournament, the Baptism of Fire could provide an opportunity to "ease in" NSFS3 to the forum at large. The full range of NSFS3 style modifiers, -5 to +5, would be used.

If the public release NSFS3 is not available by the beginning of the BoF, we would use NSFS 2.0.7. Because of the flawed implementation of style modifiers in this program, the full range would not be used.

Format and tiebreakers

We'd aim for a simple structure of groups and then a knockout stage, with the top teams advancing from each group. Ideally, four or eight groups would be used, to provide for an even number of advancing teams without need for play-ins or wild cards; the final decision, however, will be based on the number of signups.

Tiebreakers to be used when teams are equal on points, in order, are goal difference, head-to-head, number of wins, goal ratio, and a playoff match if still necessary. If three or more teams are tied, teams will "clear the tiebreaker" as soon as possible--as soon as teams can be separated from others, they will be, and we'll go back to the top of the list to sort the remaining teams.

For seeding the knockout stages, all first-placed teams will be seeded above all second-placed teams (and, if need be, so on), with goal difference, number of wins, and goal ratio in that order seeding teams with the same placement.

Experience

The user behind Aguazul has co-hosted a Baptism of Fire and a Cup of Harmony, while the user behind Virabia is currently co-hosting the Cup of Peace.

I'm aware voting is already underway, and I have already cast my vote, but I have three questions for Virabia.

1) Why do/did you want to make an upstart tournament by a n00b, in your own words, "another mainstay of the NS Sport"?
1b) In a related question, why attempt to do this to a tournament started by someone else? This smacks of taking over someone else's idea.

2) Why do you want to host the Baptism of Fire?

3) Your suggested RP bonus criteria for your hosting of that other tournament leaves me with concerns over how you will judge RPs in the BoF. Not to mention our non-native-English speaking RPers' RPs, since their English could easily have poor "grammar, spelling, construction of sentences, verb tense agreement etc".

1a: Why not. Every major tournament starts somewhere. I figured that perhaps that the tournament could go some where and it's in it's second edition.

Either way whats wrong with trying? I see no harm done.

1b: He opened the tournament to host bid. I was looking for experience so I bid and figured why not make it a regular thing....

Either way. I didn't take it over... he seemed ok with it (considering that he opened it up to host bids)

2: I want to gain more experience and I think the BoF would be a good avenue to do so.

3: That list of criteria will not used in the same way as the Cup of Peace. Based on a few rps that Zwang and I looked at to make sure were consistent in grading, I have refined how I'm looking at the criteria.

Also for non-english speakers I (not sure bout Aguazul), will work out special arrangements from them that will work for all parties involved.

Only problem I have with this is the same one I noted in that thread: the tournament claims it's for "teams who haven't qualified for the World Cup". We already have one of those tournaments under WCC purview; its very name seemingly borrowed and slightly tweaked for this n00b spinoff.

Unfortunately, that was how it was initially branded. However, the way I ran it and the way i see either Novikov or Toiletdonia running it goes away from that (especially CoP II will be pre-qual.

Either way, I don't see how this would effect my abillity to host this tournament aside from providing me with experience.
