Cup of Peace I (OOC, Signups, Closed)

Postby Vescia » Thu Jun 10, 2010 2:13 pm

Cup of Peace I

Welcome to the first ever Cup of Peace! This championship is for teams who are inexperienced (though experienced teams may participate, but need permission) or for teams who haven't qualified for the World Cup. First-time teams are permitted for host, and the maximum of countries allowed to host together is 4. The tournament will be scorinated by NSFootySim, and the cup is made of 24 carat gold, with a figurette of the goddess Reppy holding the world on her mighty finger. We will not participate to avoid fixing, and host bids open immdiately. Enjoy it!

Hey. This is a semi-serious nation (despite the flag), which operates on the ideals of libertarian municipalism and Communalism. I don't RP though (at least not currently), and you'll probably only see me on Forum 7 or General.

Veteran of the site for 7 years (yes, I lied about my age, bc I was too precocious for my own good).

Pro: Libertarian socialism (social anarchism), Communalism, social ecology, religious freedom, rights for each and every LGBT individual everywhere, equality, feminism, Dubcek, Marxism.
Anti: Oppression, capitalism, state/church intermingling, Marxist-Leninism, Maoism, fundamentalism, creationists.
16, British, cis male scum, bisexual, lover of books, indie music and writing. Expects mutual civility and decorum during debates.

The Novikovian National Football Team just finished with it's first-ever World Cup qualification bid. Having failed to qualify for WC51, we would be very interested in participating in the Cup of Peace if possible.

You may be thinking of the cup of harmony. This already has a decided host so I'm afraid you'll have to wait for the next cycle.

If you do intend this as a separate tournament you should probably note that it's not related to, nor endorsed by, the World Cup Committee, even if you intend to aim for teams that failed to qualify for the World Cup. As Toiletdonia has said, there already is a competition for them, the Cup of Harmony, so this might be confusing for our newer nations which failed to qualify. It would be better to be clear about this.

Virabi Hosting Bid for the First Cup of Peace

Format:

I will Take anywhere from 8-32 signups whom will be split into groups that are as even as I can get them. All group play will be round robin.

Examples (given certain number) of signups:

8: 2 groups of four. Top two in each group move on to semis

12: 3 lovely groups of Four. Top two move on. In the knockouts either the top two third place teams in the group could be included (for a 8 team knockout), or a 6 team knockout could be held where there is a "Wild Card Round" with the top two teams in all groups receive a bye.

16/32: 4/8 groups of four. Knockouts will include top two teams of each group.

20: 4 groups of five: Top 2 of each group go to knockouts.

24: 6 groups of 4: Top two from each group move on along with the top four third placed teams.

28: 7 Groups of four: Top two from each group move on as well as the top two third placed teams.

I will create another format if the numbers are different than these and the need arises.

Scorination:

Scorination will be done using the shiny-new NSFS3 and will be expected around 0:00 EDT. RP cutoff will be approximately 23:30 EDT. If these times change I will let everyone know in the appropriate threads. For my matches I will seek a third party (preferably someone not affiliated with the tournament) to grade the rp's of me and my opponent as well as scorinate the match.

For rankings, I will use nations KPB ranking points, however, a higher emphasis will be placed on RP's and their bonus.

Rps will be judged on:

Quality
Form of Writing
Originality
Length (very minor)
Depth of Characters
Quality of Humour (if there is any)

and a wide range of other criteria.

Tiebreakers (In order of use)

Points
Goal Difference
H2H
Goals For
Number of Wins
Points Against
Number of Non Losses
Playoff

Experience
I've used NSFS3 to sim domestic leagues, but this will be my break into the international scene.

Stuff not mentioned

IC details will be in the Everything thread.

While I know that this is a small tournament, I aim to make it another mainstay of the NS Sport. I also aim to make RPing an important part of this cup. I feel that the emphasis on RP Bonus as well as my creation of a deep framework in which nations can opt to rp in. This along with the enthusiasm of others should help create a interesting cup, that may not have the numbers, but will have the participation levels of one of the major cups. Also, those who may not rp normally hopefully will be inspired to start doing so, thus establishing rpers that otherwise may not have started. All and all, I feel that I am a good host for this cup as I will run it professionally, not only in the technical aspects but also in the aspect of creating a good framework for those to rp in, and overall being the active host that some tournaments lack.

Anyways, I now open up the floor to any questions regarding the bid.

What exactly is meant by "form of writing' in your criteria by which to judge participant's RP bouns? I think this could be clarified, as it is a criteria I am unfamiliar with.

Just the quality of the writing. As in grammar, spelling, construction of sentences, verb tense agreement etc. Stuff an English Teacher would pick you apart for. However, It is one of those things that I will downplay in the face of other things.

Alright. I saw the 9/9 thing, so I didn't know.

If it is the case that it's open, Vekaiyu would be interested in competing. They are currently competing in their first world cup this year, so yeah.

The signups are now closed. The format will be 5 'duel matches', in which 5 teams are eliminated. There will then be a league table, in which 1 team will be eliminated. There will then be the semifinals, and the final.

You cant say what the format's going to be if the host hasn't even been decided yet, especially when my format is not the same. I also (as a participant and a potential host) would like to see the details of your hosting bid. Also, who will be tallying the votes as if you do so that would be awfully biased.

So please, don't say what the format is going to be when your not the host yet (unless you were simply saying how it would go if you were voted host). And don't argue "but it's my cup" because you have made it clear that you are open to host bids.

Also to all potential participants, signups are not closed in the event of my hosting, so keep signing up.
