The Crimson Age: The White Horse (OOC/Alt-History)

Power, wealth, glory. They are what all men hunger for, and are the building blocks of empires. And you are at the helm of one such mighty nation, for the year is 1701 and the Age of Enlightenment has begun; signalling the glorious resurrection of culture and with it the age old struggle for dominance as Kings great and small vie to become a new Rome. But how will you accomplish this great feat? Shall it be through blood and conquest, to the clang of steel and whizz of bullets? Shall you conquer by the pen, impressing your foes with great rhetoric and building your hegemony through alliances and words? Will you build an Empire of gold? Using the vast new and resource rich lands of the New World to make yourself a King wealthier then Midas and far more glorious? The choice is yours….

However beware….for beyond the walls of your opulent palaces, the sweet serenades of your court orchestra and the benefit of your royal guard ideas can spawn chaos. For as the ideas of the great radicals spread like wildfire from the printing presses, to the taverns, to the slums, the ghetto’s and common masses ideas can just as easily topple a King as great armies. For fortune is a fickle mistress and if she leaves you the mob tired of decades of oppression, tired of famines and unrelenting wars can rise up and once and for all to the howls of the mob and the slash of the guillotine your Empire can disappear.

So the choices before you are many and great oh noble King. Will you be hailed a conqueror not seen since the likes of Alexander, expanding your rule by the point of the sword? Shall you triumph over all through intrigue and brilliance of cunning through diplomacy? Or shall you create a fabled empire of gold to bedazzle and impress your rivals? Shall you fall to the gutter and watch as your reign is ended in the burning of palaces and your own howl as the blade removes your head? And with it spur the revolution of democracy? We shall wait and see oh great King…for many perils lie ahead and one misstep can bring down men and gods alike.

OOC: Welcome one and all to yet another of those ever so popular empire RP’s in which we see a bunch of NSers play power-hungry despot, and as you can clearly see I’m your ever handsome host Ublia! Anwyho back on track, yes so basically this RP will be one of intrigue, cunning, war and chaos, sounds fun right? You the RPer as I’ve so graciously alluded in that intro will forge your own personal empire and try to subjugate the world beneath your iron fisted rule. Now like most of these RP’s there’s the usual point of historic divergence, and so I’ve chosen the year 1453. Why you may ask? Well I could just say a sense of whimsy but no…the year 1453 was a great turning point for the west. Constantinople the shield of the west and the last stronghold of the Roman Empire fell to the ravenous Ottomans. Meanwhile further west The Hundred Years War was finally coming to a close with French supremacy.

So what better time to screw things up then in the middle of the Renaissance in a year which clearly led to a new era of sorts. Now what you as the RPer can do is limitless (in terms of alternate history naturally). Maybe the Byzantine Empire survives to fight another day? Resulting in some last golden age of sorts? Perhaps France is defeated at Bordeaux by those pesky Englishmen causing the Hundred Years war to rage on….perhaps as time goes on it’ll be the Byzantines or Venice that reaches the Americas instead of the Conquistadors. Or maybe we’ll see the Ming collapse a little earlier so China can enjoy another Warring States period? Again the choices are yours. Well I’d best stop babbling cause y’all get the jist now go and have fun (don’t forget to read the rules first though).

Sincerely,

Moi

Rules:

1) Stick to basic RP etiquette and so on and so forth, (no trolling, flaming, godmodding, metagaming so on and so forth)
2) Tech will appear as it does according to our current historical timeline with a possible three to five year advancement.
3) War is war, strategy and tactics define the course of it. So I and my fellow co-Ops will decide on the victory of such confrontations and what not.
4) No hissy fits. You lose a war or favourite character a tragedy yes but guess what you can live to fight another day.
5) Random events can occur. Recently another RP made me realize the various RPers nations seem like paradise on earth. Well no more! Basically I and my fellow co-Ops will initiate random events to throw a monkey wrench in everyone’s plan, after all who doesn’t love a little chaos.
6) No mega-claims, honestly in this RP I want lots of action and RPers to come on in, so again mega-claiming is going to not be tolerated. (Though note with colonies isn’t as much an issue due to lack of population).
7) I am the god of this RP, and my co-Op’s my little helpers. As of such I can add to and or remove rules as I see fit.

Other fun stuff:

The Papacy: Who doesn’t love it, with its scheming Cardinals, avaricious Popes, all that lovely holy blood money and so forth? Well seeing as Europe still has a predominantly Catholic populace we need a Pope. Now there’ll be twelve Cardinals (I know we’re short a few but we also don’t need some schizophrenic morass of Papal backstabbing either) these twelve will be run by you the various RPers depending on your religious standing. And your goal is to win votes. However note the Papal States will have a player on its own, the idea of you RPing as a Cardinal is to get your guy to win as even though once their made Pope their the others guys character to be realistic they’ll be more friendly or forthcoming in deals with said nation. So say the King of France gets his old pal the Bishop of Paris/ Cardinal made Pope the new Pope will be all the more willing to let you divorce that inbred old gal who’s failed to give you any fine sons so you shack up with someone younger….

The Holy Roman Empire: The Heirs of Augustus…or well sort of from their point of view that is. As you all know the Holy Roman Empire was basically a very loose political confederation of states in Central Europe that feuded and warred from Charlemagne up until Napoleon tore it up in 1806. In our RP it’ll still be standing. And the post of Holy Roman Emperor is more prestigious then anything nowadays. But it also means you get tax revenue from the regular imperial tributes, technical over lordship of the German and Italian States, access to the imperial vaults and also the best bit its army…

How do you become Emperor you may ask? Again its vote buying time. If you RP as a Prince or ruler within the HRE’s historic borders you may stand a chance of winning the throne. Of course that means the usual skullduggery, not to mention a more conflict based succession should you find a powerful bloc opposed to the newly elected emperor. So yeah kids have fun with that.

National Focus/National Ideas

Your nation's National Focus is the traditional and cultural skills of your nation, and helps distinguish your nation from the rest. These ideas help establish a seafaring nation from those who prefer large armies. Each nation will receive two National Focuses that will remain with said nation, unless an OP allows a change to a National Focus. The possible National Focuses are as follows:

Seafaring: The fleet is your nation's pride, and forms the first line of defense against invaders. Your only Knights are Ships-of-the-line.
Grand Army: The proud sons and daughters of your nation form the true "Wooden wall". The army receives the bulk of the nation's attention.
The Pen: Your nation is known for its silver-tongued diplomats and shrewd envoys. Negotiations somehow naturally seem to go your way.
Church Attendance Day: Your nation values religion above all else. Crusading zeal fills the blood of your people, heretics flee at the sight of your banner.
Hegemony: With a long history of expansion and imperial rule, your people revel in conquest, and yearn for more slaves to till the blood-covered fields.
Tradewinds: A history of making fortune on the seas and open roads has given your nation a reputation as a natural center of trade for all manners of goods.
Hammer and Sickle: Your loyal serfs toil day and night in the fields and factories, making your cities hubs of production of natural and manufactured products.

National Ideas represent your government's reforms and policies over the years. These may change depending on the circumstances, and more will be gained slowly over time. While National Focuses simply display cultural traditions of a nation, National Ideas show active government involvement in advancing certain sectors of its nation. Each nation will gain 2 Ideas per century and will help define the strengths of your nation.

18th Century:

Enlightened Despotism: Your nations rulers are benevolent overlords, for the masses are like children in need of guidance are they not? This idea makes rebellion less likely to occur, grants you an extremely centralized government not to mention makes your court a haven for cultural brilliance.

Blood, Iron and Steam: Machines are the future and your nation has recognized that. Transformed into a centre for the industrial revolution your nation has a huge output in terms of industrialized goods meaning a greater boom in terms of supplies and trade. However this also means your agrarian output is diminished which leads to squalor and dissent...

Carolean Model: Well disciplined, flexible and extremely versatile your army is the envy of many. Known for using only the latest tactics and the finest weaponry your army may be smaller but due to these boons it has a better chance of victory then a much larger and far more disorganized foe you may meet.

East India Trading Company: Your nations love for the goods of the Far East and New World have led to the foundation of a national merchant company. Granting you greater trading contacts abroad, professional mercenaries and also colonies as far as India and beyond.

The Rights of Man: All men are created equal! That's your nations motto after throwing out the old and brining in the new. With this you have embraced the beginnings of modern democracy making your nation noted for its liberal climate. Not to mention if invaded your zealous people have the ability to form impromptu militias to combat invading foes....

Pax Oceanus: The sea is yours and yours alone. Your nation has recognized the need to dominate the waves and has done so with frightening ease. Because of this little perk your fleet is twice as large as most and your navy ahead of the curb in terms of advances and tactics.

Oh, I would love to reserve Italia for this. Rome hasn't been the centre of the world for too long.

CODE: SELECT ALL
NS Name: St Lucoa
Nation Name: The Executive Monarchy of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Capital City:London
Government Type: Executive Monarchy
Head of State: King William III, 51 years old, an aging but healthy King. A militaristic man who is in favour of Protestantism being the main religion of Britain.
Claimed Territory: Present day England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, Bahamas, Jamaica, Antigua, Anguilla, Barbados, Barbuda, British Virgin Islands, Gambia, Gold Coast (Ghana), Saba, Montserrat, Turks and Caicos Islands, Delaware and Pennsylvania with small trading posts in South Africa and India (Goa and Madras). I realise this may look a lot but many of these colonies are georgraphically small i.e. Caribbean Islands.
State/National Religion:Christianity (Protestantism)
Dominant Religion:Christianity (Protestantism)
Minority Religion(s):Christianity (Catholocsim)
Population: 8,000,000
Military Size: 200,000
Fleet Size: 90 ships however many are old and in need of repair as most were built in the 1680s/90s
National Flag: Union Flag
Coat of Arms: Royal Coat of Arms
National Focus: Seafaring and Theen
National Idea(s): East India Trading Company and Pax Oceanus
Trade Policy: Free Trade
Primary Import(s): Cotton, Tea and Sugar
Primary Export(s): Coal, Timber and Alcohol
Primary Culture: British?
Accepted Cultures: Caribbean and Indian Culture?
Brief Description of your nation's History: After the 'glorious revolution' King William III now ruled England due to his militaristic nature he now set his eyes on Scotland. After a botched military campaign both the Kingdom of Scotland and the Kingdom of England decided that a union was necessary not only to ensure prosperity but also to combat the threat of the French. The Act of Union was signed in 1698 - making The United Kingdom a new nation with great potential. Scotland would now also have access to the English, now British, colonies and ports. These included: the Bahamas, Jamaica, a small port in the South African Cape and another small trading post in Goa. All of these territories were claimed quickly by English pioneers during the periods of discovery. Wales, at the time of the union, was part of England but in 1700 was recognised as a constituent nation of Great Britain. Northern Ireland, formally taken by Britain in 1699 as kept separate from the more Catholic South under orders from King William III. Britain also did not colonise North America to a heavy extent - only taking Delaware and Pennsylvania. The Empire has a history of being ruled leniently and this leads to a mostly content colonial population, however most of not all have not given up their ideas of independence in the future. Every since Henry VIII established the Royal Navy, England, now Britain, 'ruled the waves' with a massive fleet and superior tacticians Britain, as an island nation, relies heavily on sea power for the maintaining of the Empire and the importing of goods.
Brief Description of your nation's economy: Britain's economy is stable but not booming. Income from the sugar and cotton plantations in the Caribbean helps to sustain the relatively new 'Empire' and tea imported from India contributes significantly too. Britain however struggles in the export department with limited profit coming from alcohol and timber.
Brief Description of your nation's government: Britain is a an Executive Monarchy with the King having a significant say in the running of the country however this responsibility is shared by an elected Parliament. However, only the rich, land owning citizens votes meaning there is little representation and accountability.
Brief Description of your nation's populace: Britain has a hard working, god fearing population. With most of them working the land or involved in ship building the population struggles to make ends meet but is relatively happy with the way the nation is run - believing that the upper and more educated classes are more capable of making the important decisions. Able to knuckle down and show the 'stiff upper lip' in times of hardship the population of Britain is far from perfect but it has an intrepid never say die attitude.
Dramatis Personae: Sir Horatio Paddington, age 41, advisor to The King God save Him. A loyal, patriotic but level head man with years of political and military experience.

Governor George Sunyata Singh, age 39, Governor of Goa. A man who strives for the best for his people he is prepared to pressure the British for more resource and equipment. Seeing colonisation as a necessary step to become 'civilised', he is a firm believer in the morals of the Empire.

Lord Grosvenor, age 49, explorer and navigator. An adventurous man who isn't too bothered about the glory of Britain - he is more interested in learning and discovering new people and cultures. However, his strong faith in Christianity means he is firmly against slavery and exploitation.
RP Example: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=218762

For the record the whole Protestant / Catholic rivalry in my app does not, and never will, reflect my real life beliefs. I added it in because it did happen and I apologise if I have offended anyone.

Brief Description of your nation's History: Almost destroyed in the era known as the 150 years war, France emerged as a very nationalist, militant nation who was mistrusting of it's neighbors on all sides. Coming into the early modern era, France was led by the Bourbons, a branch of the ancient Capet family which had ruled France since the days of the original monarchy after the death of Charlemagne. This culminated with the reign of Louis IV, the "sun king", who more or less invented the idea of absolutism in modern governance. he erected the enormous palace at Versailles, and modernized the French state. Having no sons of his own, he adopted a young boy by the name of Charles, and trained him as his heir. Backed by a large contingent of advisors and noblemen, from his deathbed he announced that the old French kingdoms of France, Aquitaine, Navarra, and Brittany were dissolved for all time, to give way for a unified "empire of the French." He also dissolved the house of Bourbon, created the House Marquis, with young Charles as it's head. In the five years since, Charles has continued what his adopted father started, continuing to centralize France while gradually turning it into a more imperial state. He has also won several land gains to incorporate the Belgians and the Swiss into the French state, in his mission to "unite all the French speaking peoples under a single banner".

Brief Description of your nation's economy: Coming from a period of large protectionism and mercantilism, Charles is slowly putting in place certain freer policies so that France may become a larger partner in European trade. France has become more and more industrialized over time, with a healthy fledgling textile industry and luxury goods, as well as logging from the huge French forests. Farming is a mix of food and cash crop, leaning slightly more to food.
Brief Description of your nation's government: The French government is an absolute monarchy, where the emperor has total control. Over time, the power and privilage of the nobility have steadily eroded more and more, giving way to a more meritocratic imperial system. modern French noble families are beginning to resemble more of the old Roman patrician families than they are the old feudal lords. However there is no senate like in the old Roman Empire, although the emperor does sometimes convene a council of nobles to advice him on matters, or to help him legitimize particularly drastic decrees by voting on them.

Brief Description of your nation's populace:The French people are an interesting breed, hardworking but having a high value for enjoyment and refinery. They are hot blooded, and will not back down from a fight, prizing honor above most things in life.
Dramatis Personae: Charles (see above). His sister Anne, aged 19, thin and average height, with pleasing curves and an angular, thin face with pale skin and long black hair. She is the trueborn daughter of Louis IV, and so her and Charles are not technically related.

Brief Description of your nation's History: The United Kingdom of the Holy Lands was the result of the Last Great Crusade, a last-ditch attempt by the pope to unite the Christian world under Deus Vult. This time, the crusades succeeded more than they had before, thanks to European technological advancements and better planning thanks to the earlier crusades. With lessons learned from the siege of Constantinople, the new crusaders captured city after city from the Mamluks, whose cavalry fell to the pike square like lambs to the slaughter. In ten years, the principality of Antioch, the Kingdom of Jerusalem, and the principality of Alexandria were created, under the rule of the pope. Of course, this was all well, for a while. Over time, the knights in charge of the whole ordeal became more liberal when the enlightenment hit. Fuelled with wisdom from Mecca, the knights came to accept Arabs, Syrians, Muslims, Jews. They became normal citizens, to the dismay of the pope, who excommunicated the three states soon after these laws were passed. Arabs were allowed into decision-making, and a long peaceful coexistence began. When the pope excomminucated the three nations, his place as supreme ruler was taken by the Consul’s, two wise men appointed by the parliament of the nations. Since time immemorial, there has been one Muslim and one Christian at the helm, and things have prospered. Peace reigns in the middle East, and no foreigner has yet dared to invade the peaceful league of Muslims and Christians, united in faith. They have even begun to colonise, founding mixed-religion settlements without equal in the new world, true jewels of liberalism and equality.
Brief Description of your nation's economy: Good relations with Muslim countries, through the Arab consul, has opened trade across the Silk Road to Eastern Africa, India, and the Spice Islands. Trade Winds blow through Alexandria and Jerusalem, the Key to East and West, and the government uses this position dearly. They regulate trade as tightly as they can, making sure they are the biggest benefactor of the spice trade to Europe.
Brief Description of your nation's government: A system of Kings and peasants. The nation’s elite are represented in a parliament, seated in Jerusalem. Every Kingdom has a king and a parliament of their own, both represented in the Great Parliament. The Great Parliament is presided by the consuls, who are the highest authority. They can act without permission of Parliament, although it is good etiquette to ask their permission first. In peace time, the Consuls try to stay in unison with the Great Parliament as much as they can.
Brief Description of your nation's populace: A great mix of Arabs, Catholics of all natures, Jews and some Persians. These people work together, having been educated by priest and imam alike that all men are brothers.
Dramatis Personae: the Consuls, Abu-Mansur and Jean-Philipe. Co-governor of Cuba, Heinrich von Antioch. General of the 5th Army, Muhammad One-eye.
RP Example: I believe we have met before…
The name's James. James Usari. Well, my name is not actually James Usari, so don't bother actually looking it up, but it'll do for now.
Lack of a real name means compensation through a real face. My debt is settled

Population: 6,000,000
Military Size: 200,000
Fleet Size: 90 ships however many are old and in need of repair as most were built in the 1680s/90s
National Flag: Union Flag
Coat of Arms: Royal Coat of Arms
National Focus: Seafaring and Theen
National Idea(s): East India Trading Company and Pax Oceanus
Trade Policy: Free Trade
Primary Import(s): Cotton, Tea and Sugar
Primary Export(s): Coal, Timber and Alcohol
Primary Culture: British?
Accepted Cultures: Caribbean and Indian Culture?
Brief Description of your nation's History: After the 'glorious revolution' King William III now ruled England due to his militaristic nature he now set his eyes on Scotland. After a botched military campaign both the Kingdom of Scotland and the Kingdom of England decided that a union was necessary not only to ensure prosperity but also to combat the threat of the French. Scotland would now also have access to the English, now British, colonies and ports. These included: the Bahamas, Jamaica, a small port in the South African Cape and another small trading post in Goa. All of these territories were claimed quickly by English pioneers during the periods of discovery.

Very good but might I ask for a tad more history if that's alright? Oh and you can have a larger population trust me the British Isles wasn't as barren as most places back then.

Brief Description of your nation's History: Riga was founded in 1202 by a German bishop, and was the starting point for the Order of the Sword, as well as their capital. Riga was an independent city-state, a member of the Hanseatic League. After the fall of Livonia, Riga was free. It became a Free Imperial City in the Holy Roman Empire, and after many treaties, diplomatic negotiations and sucking for big nations, Riga managed to survive all the way to the year 1701. Not much can be said about it.
Brief Description of your nation's economy: Riga is a trading nation, a major port in the Baltic Sea and one of the only naval access points for Russia, Poland and Lithuania. As such, the city feeds off trade between the West and the East. Riga is also a major exporter of naval supplies and fish.
Brief Description of your nation's government: Riga is a Noble Republic. The National Assembly, composed of the wealthiest, elects a Prince for a term of 6 years. The Prince controls the foreign policy, is the leader of the military, collects taxes and spends them. However, he does not have much power. The National Assembly keeps his hands tied. Corruption is high.
Brief Description of your nation's populace: The majority of the people are Latvians, but the German minority is the leading one, as they control the government.
Dramatis Personae: August Strik-Strikfeld - the youngest son of the Prince of Riga. An 18 year old handsome and intelligent boy with low expectations of himself, a crush and a dream to become a writer, much to the dismay of many, especiall his father. Main character.

Frikk Swamtord - A bastard son of a known Swedish merchant, born from a prostitute. 31 years old, bul looks 40. Ambitious, friendly.
RP Example: Death of the Multiverse, but I think the app looks good enough.
