SYSTEM QUESTIONED AS EELANDII RUMORED IN

The process for new clubs to be included in the Vilitan League, replacing the two teams relegated each season from the Declasse Division, has always been guarded in secrecy. Vilitan League officials, club Chairmen and other notable 'experts' meet in Alikki-Corra. When they are done, there is no announcement, no hoopla and no press release. Simply a phone call to two clubs to expect a packet to arrive welcoming them to the league.

While the process has always been the process, and has not often been questioned, there are always teams that feel that they will have done enough to earn their inclusion in the league after strong performances in the Vilitan Cup, but that are overlooked for another club, perhaps with more history, perhaps something else.

Lately, however, there has been some unease from Vilitan clubs that politcal motivations were seeping into the selection process, notably with the frequent selection of Inura Forests, Wunokalsa Waridi and other Turorian clubs to the Declasse Division despite accomplishing nothing of note either in the Vilitan Cup, or, in the League. In fact, Turorian clubs have been one-and-done entrants into the Vilitan League the past 3 seasons and have accounted for 5 one-and-done campaigns over the previous 7 seasons.

Critics suppose that the repeated invitation of unheralded Turorian clubs weakens the overall quality of competition in the Declasse Division and prevents otherwise competent Vilitan clubs from getting a chance to re-establish themselves.

However, defenders of the system presume and support the idea that if a Turorian team is relegated, it is fair to assume that a Turorian team is more likely to be selected as its replacement over a slightly more accomplished Vilitan club.

However, when word started leaking out that a call had been made to the upstart chair of the Sporta Eelandii Nationals club - a new club started in the purpose-built city of Eelandii to promote the new Turorian center of sport even when the National Team is not in action, the debate started once again.
Recently Relegated Turorian Clubs
S42 - Wunokalsa Waridi
S41 - Inura Forests
S41 - Cedniavella
S39 - Sokattack Mliona
S37 - Wunokalsa Waridi
S36 - Sokattack Mliona
S35 - Inura Forests
S35 - FC Almintora

Of course, defenders once again point out that yet another Turorian side was relegated during Season 42. And, with Wunokalsa Waridi, Inura Forests, Cedniavella and Sokattack Mliona all having been relegated in consecutive seasons, the Selection committee apparently has decided to give another team a chance.

While most would have expected Cednia Rovers to be the next Turorian team in line for a chance at the Vilitan League, the selection committee has apparently opted to bring the domestic game to Eelandii in what is likely going to be looked at as more fuel to the fire for critics looking to change the selection system. Sporta Eelandii Nationals have never even qualified to the Pod Phase in the Vilitan Cup, having no worthwhile footballing credentials.

However, they bring marketing clout, located strategically between the major Turorian cities of Cednia and Almintora, the Eelandii based club will be likely to have an easier time attracting players than clubs in Inura and Waridi have had.

One of the clubs likely to protest the decision the most is Morata Valley. Having made one of the most historic declines in Vilitan League history, Morata Valley anything but in the Valley after Season 37, having finished an all time high 5th in the Stellar Division and earning a place in the highest UICA Competition. However, it would be just a flash in the pan for the inland club as after a mediocre season 38, Morata Valley suffered successive relegations and found themselves outside the league system for the first time since Season 15.

While the club have been able to retain some key players, it is likely this will be the last straw if the rumors are true and Morata Valley will be spending yet another season outside the league.

Interestingly, it is believed that Vilitan side Crosaibi Locals will be the other team returning to the Declasse Division for Season 43. Crosaibi Locals have had 2 prior attempts to make a name for themselves in the league, being relegated each time, the most recent 10 seasons prior.

scorinated by Saugeais

So, as the reigning CC-holder and runner-up both take to the field in the CdC this season, it is left up to the team that can defeat them both to lift the trophy, and that is exactly what Surtsey Island Gulls have done. In the process of doing this, they have retained the trophy for Divisjon One clubs, only the second time an association has won the CdC in successive seasons, and the first time with two different clubs. This marks only the third time a club from Polar Islandstates has won the trophy, and has denied Iturributa United what would have been a third title. Poor Iturributa United, whose approach to international finals this season has been distinctly... what's the word? Polarian.

Future bids for host stadia will be taken into consideration, though the default in case of no bids will always be The Barge in Bjarnarey; the floating stadium. A final reminder also that all Rushmori nations only will be able to submit their league champions only (or top ranked team in the event of multi-associational leagues) for entry into the next CdC, the submission period opened when Commerce Heights closed entries to the last UICA tournaments, and will close again when Commerce Heights closes entries to the next UICA tournaments. No invitations will be sent. You must indicate in your league summary that you wish your league champion to take part. I almost missed Soleis' entry this cycle because it appeared only in the table, and not in the league box like other nations.

Please also note that I will continue to monitor the UICA ranks used slightly, and am setting a hard maximum rank next cycle of 80. Any team with a rank higher than that will be cut to 80, and the max rank for the scorinator will be 100.

POST SEASON PLAY WITH...

PROJECT +90

The Under-21 squad had absolutely no rest post-#mssport Youth Cup. With two interesting friendlies, Project +90 was ready to show that their win was no joke and those two invites suddenly became the greatest way to take the challenge in.

GAME 1: at Linkin Beach

A rough game welcomed the Boys from the Shiny Stadium as they faced the Under-19 champion of 95X at their own home. With a lot of hard work and impressive skills by the regular squad, the game simply showed that the team from 95X was nowhere near the walk in the park that was the Youth Cup. However, with their stamina in place, Project +90 survived the possible tie and with The Edenias born player scored a goal and solved the game. The team left Atlantian Oceania with a win.

GAME 2: at Tiamare

After a close game against the side from Atlantian Oceania, another invite came knocking. Project Lion from Springmont got interested on facing an international challenge on the shape of the Project +90. In a game of projects, Lion started on top with an impressive and quick goal scored by Mark Fjetland, assisted by Lucius Langley. Langley would become an issue for the Sunrisian side until the end of the first half, as Crescenzo Scordato took the game drawn and it would be then followed by Ivo Araújo, who pretty much wrote the book at last.

The Play-offs took however, a significant change as a Poll was introduced to fill in the 14 spots left that would normally be just divided by the bigger conferences.

Now fast forward to the day after the transfer window. The NSIFC decided to take a look a the two halves of the Youth Football pyramid as well as the upcoming colony team and finally released a list of the top 20 rookies around. Without taking on players that were transfered and Project +90 signed players, they uploaded a simple list, explaining all the details.

The Nexxus Cup I

6 nations, 6 clubs, most of them decent, some of them monster by comparison. Only one will emerge the champion, who will it be?

This is an invitational tournament to be held between the nations mentioned in the spoiler below every UICA cycle, however, there is room for expansion, and if old nations leave the system, new ones can join.

Procedural Note: Sicoutimont's late Cygnus Cup entry and stadium bid were not included, since both were edited into their UICA qualification post on this thread long after the UICA deadline expired. Dainer's relatively late entry, on the other hand, was accepted.

Welcome one and all to the Cygnus Cup, organized by the Valladar Football Association for the second time running. The 27th Cygnus Cup sees a decline in participation from 38 teams from 37 associations last cycle to 29 teams from 28 associations this time. Raynor City United, the title holders, qualified as defending champions despite not qualifying through the Vanorian cup system. Six teams will take part in a preliminary round, with the three winners joining seventeen teams more in the first round proper, while the remaining six teams, including the title-holders, are given a bye to the round of 16 and will be joined there by the ten winners from the previous round.

Final Site Election

Since there was only a lone stadium bid (Sicoutimont's late bid was disregarded, as explained above) this time, coming from The Battleground in Raynor City, Valanora, the Organizing Commitee felt that: 1) holding a voting session was rather pointless given the circumstance and 2) it would be great to have the competition's final hosted at the defending champion's stadium, and therefore it was decided by acclamation that the Cygnus Cup 27 Final will be hosted at The Battleground in Raynor City, Valanora (Cap. 78,000).

Nexxus Drako Football Association: Season 2015 Review

It's that time of year again... it's football season!

New this year is the recently founded Third Division, which is split into North and South Conferences.

Third Division North Standings

Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts
1 Loxa Locks 14 7 4 3 17 12 +5 25 PRO
2 Xavxc X-Men 14 6 5 3 20 17 +3 23
3 San Suns 14 5 5 4 12 10 +2 20
4 Sipdol Dolls 14 4 7 3 10 8 +2 19
5 Poal Polaris 14 3 8 3 15 12 +3 17
6 Vabsn AFC 14 4 3 7 10 14 -4 15
7 Yhenhans SC 14 4 3 7 9 15 -6 15
8 Grnea Green Hornets 14 3 5 6 11 16 -5 14

Third Division South Standings

Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts
1 Eans Barcodes 14 9 2 3 20 13 +7 29 PRO
2 Jka Athletic 14 5 6 3 19 14 +5 21
3 Hnhand Hands 14 5 6 3 16 15 +1 21
4 Aitenhe United 14 5 4 5 21 15 +6 19
5 Qakam Quakers 14 5 4 5 12 13 -1 19
6 Ulaiobn Open Team 14 5 2 7 13 17 -4 17
7 Zasns Rovers 14 4 2 8 14 20 -6 14
8 Dnabs Den 14 3 4 7 10 18 -8 13

Some strange team names reside in these leagues, mainly due to lack of inspiration and unwillingness to use "common" names.

Anyway, Eans Barcodes won out of the D3 South, while Loxa Locks have won and promoted from the D3 North.

All teams were surprisingly matched coming into the start, and some played better than others, but all in all, the winners deserved to get out of the lowly Third Division.

The Second Division left a few surprises, some of last season's favourites ended up falling down a bit, while the losers still lost.

Second Division Standings

Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts
1 Nyl Zeros 18 10 5 3 21 17 +4 35 PRO
2 Northern Spyros 18 9 6 3 23 15 +8 33 PRO
3 Hken Hawks 18 9 4 5 26 17 +9 31
4 Qjans Quaint 18 9 4 5 24 20 +4 31
5 Weab Webbers 18 7 5 6 21 17 +4 26
6 Inklus Inkers 18 6 5 7 21 19 +2 23
7 Kian Kings 18 5 5 8 16 21 -5 20
8 Ajks Jokers 18 5 4 9 15 21 -6 19
9 Okams Okay Team 18 4 3 11 10 20 -10 15 REL/TDN
10 Mpokla Pokers 18 3 5 10 15 25 -10 14 REL/TDS

Sunrisian farm team, Northern Spyros were promoted to the First Division thanks to their second place finish, and Nyl Zeros finished top, while Okams Okay Team didn't quite finish last, only just avoiding that distinction, but are relegated to the D3 North, while Mpokla Pokers are relegated to the D3 South.

The first division led to some surprises too. Favourites Wtah Ocean Riders, mid tabled, disappointingly.

First Division Standings

Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts
1 Wansol Solars 18 9 6 3 27 17 +10 33 PRO/SBCC
2 Inans Inner Peace 18 9 4 5 17 9 +8 31 PRO/SBCC
3 Oka Class 18 8 4 6 26 17 +9 28 SBCC
4 Telas Mountaineers 18 7 7 4 18 16 +2 28 SBCC
5 Wtah Ocean Riders 18 7 6 5 23 19 +4 27
6 Joaks Jesters 18 7 5 6 22 25 -3 26
7 Nanana Batmen 18 5 7 6 19 17 +2 22
8 Quans Queens 18 4 6 8 20 27 -7 18
9 Yolan Yolo 18 4 4 10 14 25 -11 16 REL
10 Knasn Knights 18 3 5 10 15 29 -14 14 REL

Yolan Yolo, who were named so after a teen group spammed the voting page trying to find a name for the Yolan team, were relegated, as were Knasn Knights, favourites to finish last place.

Wansol Solars won the First Division, and Inans Inner Peace will join them in the Premier League next season, while Oka Class and Telas Mountaineers will play in the SBCC.

Premier League time, the major upset is in the top spots, but let's not spoil it.

Premier League Standings

Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts
1 Gnas Gnats 22 11 7 4 32 19 +13 40 CC [NXD]
2 Ilona FC 22 12 4 6 30 26 +4 40 GC [NXD]

4 Drako Dragons 22 10 4 8 31 23 +8 34 GC [NXD]
5 Nexxie United 22 8 7 7 27 25 +2 31
6 Kaok Crocs 22 8 5 9 14 17 -3 29
7 Palsm Palms 22 8 4 10 21 30 -9 28

11 Reag Regents 22 4 10 8 28 32 -4 22 REL
12 Lafaja Tree Climbers 22 5 7 10 20 28 -8 22 REL

Gnas Gnats? Champions. Drako Dragons? 4th. Nexxie United? 5th. Champions Cup berth for Gnas Gnats? Guaranteed, and Nexxie United gets one for Nexxie too.

Reag Regents finished second last, while Lafaja Tree Climbers finished last, both are relegated by a measly point.

Now for the International Player watch.

Congratulations to SK Franz Josef City, who have managed to win their first Cygnus Cup and as a result, take the Cup Winners' Cup Trophy to Polar Islandstates for the first time in five seasons, and also denied Jungle Strike FC the chance to join AS Bezieres and last season's winners Raynor City United in the club of winningest clubs in the Cygnus Cup with a third title.

Notes for Cygnus Cup Entry

  • Each association may enter ONE club into the Cygnus Cup, with the exception of Polar Islandstates which may enter one club in addition to SK Franz Josef City.
  • Should SK Franz Josef City win their qualifying national association or league cup, the spot held over for a second Polarian entrant will be vacated.
  • Clubs can only qualify through ONE domestic cup competition.
  • Each user may enter clubs from no more than two associations.
  • With the exception of SK Franz Josef City, all entered teams must have won a national association or league cup; Super Cup winners and winners of play-offs cannot be entered.
  • Entrants must be posted in the International Domestic Soccer NewsWires (i.e. this thread), and at least the final must have been scorinated and posted (with a link in the IDSN if it is posted elsewhere).
  • The deadline for Cygnus Cup entry will expire at the same time as the UICA one.

Stadium bids for the final of the 28th edition of the Cygnus Cup are now being invited. Bids should be posted in this thread with relevant details of the stadium and its facilities.

UICA Youth Cup Partner Bid: Kakofon

Specialising in all manner of audio equipment from personal sound systems to public address systems for stadiums, Kakofon have gathered a strong reputation in Paradystopia for the quality of their products, knowledgeable technicians and general company ethos. They company works with youth on a daily basis due to strong links with many Paradystopi universities and a myriad of apprenticeship opportunities with the company itself.

Keen to promote youth football and build a client base outside of the Paradystopi Commonwealth, The company seeks to become the official partner of the UICA Youth Cup.

This Seasons Super League was one of surprise, yes, FC Chippenham strolled to another success, but it was just under them where all the surprise lies. Pre-season favourites, Marlborough Town failed to make it into the top four and had to rely on the Royal Trophy to qualify for UICA football next season, while Kings City FC missed out all together. But it was Salvador FC and former national team manager, John McKenzie with their defensive 5-3-1-2 who completed the biggest shock, finishing in second, all be it 11 points behind the dominant FC Chippenham. At the bottom, Roade Town will feel unlucky to fall victim to the new relegation system, with King William City narrowly missing out. But newly formed Laycock Abbey will have nothing to complain about, only recieving one point, which came on match day three.

The First Drekkevaas Natyonal Lig. 1 had a very low-scoring nature, with the most goals scored in a game being 5. The games were all close, with the Capital Derby occuring on Matchday One, and with great football throughout the rest of the year. Brrachu Sylebba took the title with 91 points, and Olæren City coming second with 84. The third Globe Cup spot was dueled out for on the last day of the season, with the Fighting Jiraffas getting a last minute goal to draw with Drekkevaas Citien Klub. That left the Fighting Jiraffas in 4th by a point. DCK knew they had missed out on a great opportunity after losing in the penultimate matchday, in a game that could have put them in the Globe Cup spot. Olæren City also won the First Drekkevaas Cup, defeating the Waen Starlight 2-0 in the final. Either way, this was one great season to be the first in Drekkevaas.

EDITION IX

Welcome to the ninth edition of the Campionato Esportivano di Campeones, the first edition organized by the Konsehong Pampalakasan ng Maharlikang Barangay (KPMB). The revolution in The Licentian Isles forced the previous organizers, the Royal Football Association of The Licentian Isles (RFALI) to cease organising and open the organisation of the tournament to interested Esportivan FA's, and the KPMB was chosen to continue the competition. Forty-seven participants from twenty-four associations were accepted for this tournament, and to make things simpler, the KPMB decided to put 30 teams in the preliminary round and 17 champions from associations with the highest UICA coefficients into the First Round Proper.

Two bids were recieved by the KPMB: Piedra Labadra Complex in Piedra Labadra in San Jose Guayabal and Stadii Ximena in Telino in Yttribia. Twenty-eight officials from KPMB and TiViSangti (who will broadcast the competition) took part in the voting, which lasted eighteen hours, due to the host voting being deadlock at 14-14. Fortunately, at the revote (no one knew how many revotes were done), the final stadium was finally determined. And it was the Stadii Ximena in Telino, Yttribia who won, 15-13. It was allegedly caused by a hefty bribe during the break before the revote by a Barangayan politician, who is a supporter of the Yttribian National Team. The officials were scratching their heads at the voting debacle, because it could have been over at the first round if the TiViSangti official was not included in the committee.

Procedural Notes
  • The entries of The Sarian (TSA) were accepted as the nation was in Esportiva when Commerce Heights organized the 52nd cycle of the UICA. However, should The Sarian remain outside Esportiva by the next cutoff and submits entries to the CEdC, then it will be rejected,
  • Despite the UICA not including their entries because of late entry, the entries of German American States (GAS), New Sideburn (NSB) and Paradystopia (PDT) were all entered.
  • All Esportivan nations who entered a domestic result in the IDSN were granted entry, regardless of whether they did or did not state their entry in the competition.
  • As last season, some of the associations submitted only one entry; as the rules permit a second club from the given association to enter, all associations had two entries entered into the competition, with the exception of Nexxie (NXX), which has only one club in the Drakonian league.
  • Sangti (SGT) has been renamed The Royal Barangay (TRB), and NexxusDrako has been renamed Nexxus Drako, with the same association code.
  • The association codes used in the CEdC are from the UICA association code list. Nations not entered in UICA were set a TLA that is not contradicting with any used TLA in the list.

CEdC IX Final
at Stadii Ximena, Telino, Yttribia

Lylat Starfox (NSI) 1–2 Viztourzys Kolektyvinis (BYN)

Congratulations to Viztourzys Kolektyvinis for being the very first Buyanese side to win the competition, which brought more glory to the club as they won the Globe Cup. Thanks to all Esportivan nations who made this tournament possible, and of course to The Licentian Isles, for entrusting the organization of this tournament to me.

For the tenth edition of the CEdC, here are the things to take note of:
  • Football Associations from Esportiva must indicate their intent to enter the Campionato Esportivano di Campeones in their domestic submissions in the International Domestic Soccer Newswires thread. Starting from the next edition, I will only enter those associations who submitted their domestic results with explicit intentions to enter the CEdC.
  • Submission of entries will open when Commerce Heights scorinates the Super Cup (the last of the series of scorinations during the UICA) of the last UICA cycle and will close when Commerce Heights post his procedural notes for the current cycle in this thread. A sample is linked here. Any nation leaving Esportiva or CTEing before cutoff will have its entries rejected.
  • The CEdC accepts the maximum of two clubs, one of which must be a domestic champion (or the highest placed team in multiassociational leagues) per association. Maximum of one puppet association can be entered. Multiassociational leagues involving two or more Esportivan associations shall have a maximum of four entrants, with each association entering no more than two entries.
  • Associations interested to bid for the final site of the next CEdC shall post their stadium bid with a format similar to that of the UICA. If there are no bids received, then the default venue will remain to be in St. Bart's Oval, St. Bart's, The Licentian Isles, until the construction of the Mall of Esportiva Stadium in Zalesgon, The Royal Barangay is completed, which is expected before the start of the eleventh edition.

Green League Preview
Nova Tunis

Image Image Image
Courtesy of Adler Sport, German-American States

Captain: Kifazgol
Nickname: Cavaliers
Players In: Ivan Tancredo (MAP) (MF) from Project +90 (NSI), Eugène Janvier (YTT) (MF) from Delare Minon (YTT)
Players Out: Ayden Giffard (MF) (retired)
Last season: Green League champions, UICA Champions' Cup second preliminary round, UICA Globe Cup group stage, Campionato Esportiva de Campeones semifinals
Prediction: 1st

Last year, Nova Tunis lost its best prospect in a generation, Elior Schneider, to AFC Treason, and replaced him at the last minute with Crassus Hopp, an oddball striker who had never really found his place in his native Buyan. With Hopp supporting the Daineri goal machine Kifazgol and national team captain Ayden Giffard behind them, the Cavaliers took their first Green League title in the modern era and advanced to the group stage of the Globe Cup, the furthest any Taijani team has made it in the UICA competitions. However, much has changed with the loss of Giffard and the addition of two new, young international players to this team, and only time will tell if the formula can be replicated.

Defense has never been Nova Tunis's strong suit, but the addition of Alessandro Jalkan from Flying Jellyfish of Farfadillis is sure to increase the team's defensive presence.. With the Green Giant Mongkut Mendelsson starting for the Ibex for the first time and Or Sato receiving his first cap in this ninth Campionato, it is hoped that the defense will step up and fill some of the holes that are expected to crop up with the loss of Giffard at center-mid.

The midfield of Nova Tunis will never be the same without Giffard, that much is certain. What is less certain is what will come of it in his absence. In the immediate aftermath of Giffard's retirement, the Cavaliers went to the elite football academy of Project +90 in the Northern Sunrise Islands and had a center-mid made to order, that being seventeen year-old Ivan Tancredo of Mapletish. However, as Green Star learned with Bruce Stevenson, talent alone is not enough for a young center-mid to succeed, and so Cavaliers Director of Football John Cho went further on a limb and gave a sizeable portion of Giffard's former wages to twenty year-old Ytrribian Eugene Janvier. Despite his youth, Janvier has played for the first-team Yttribian squad, and it is hoped that if he cannot replace Giffard, he can at least make the hole less apparent.

Up front, the strikers remain the same, last year's "dynamic duo" of Kifazgol and Crassus Hopp. It is unclear how the captain's badge will effect Kifazgol, either on or off the field, since he has proven inscrutable as far as personality goes, but he is only the third foreign captain of a Taijani team, after Leandro Cardoza of Nouvel Ecosse and Dynamo Nova Tangiers and Arthur Wood of Barunia and Capital AC. It is hoped that Kifazgol can keep the scoring dynamic alive without Giffard to "quarterback" it as he was so famous for doing, and keep this team on top.

Nova Algiers Maroons

Image Image
Courtesy of Adler Sport, German-American States

Captain: Paul Yamamoto
Players In: Vishnu Corvallis (FW), Lloyd King (MF), Terry Cho (DF), Tito Brotz (DF) from Felix Maroons
Players Out: Ryan Blaine (DF) (released)
Last season: 2nd in Green League, UICA Globe Cup second preliminary round, Campionato Esportiva de Campeones
Prediction: 3rd

Last year, Nova Algiers managed to retain second against a rising tide of teams stocked with foreign talent and big budgets, being overtaken only by rivals Nova Tunis who had the national team captain and two high-powered foreign strikers. This year, with more foreign talent than ever playing in the Green League, the Maroons field one of the few all-Taijani teams, having released Utilitarian forward Silvain Wion for failing to live up to expectations. That isn't to say that all the team's talent is developed in Taijan, however; the Felix Maroons, Nova Algiers's farm team in the second division of Felix, has provided key first-team experience to several of the players now wearing the maroon jersey, including striker Ricky Kang and midfielder Christopher Xi.

Last year, shortcomings in the Algiers defense created too many scoring opportunities for opposing teams, causing Alex Kim to slip in the goalkeeping rankings. This year, the Maroons have dipped into their reserves to address those shortcomings, with center back Terry Cho and fullback Tito Brotz, younger brother of Green Star striker Nuno Brotz, being called up, but it seems unlikely that the young talent will be enough by itself; Damon Chang will have to draw on his experience in the Campionato Esportiva IX to fully rebuild the team's defense and get Kim back to form.

The middle four for Nova Algiers remains unchanged from last year, with Derrick Ho an unused substitute in the Campionato. Former Felix Maroons captain Lloyd King is expected to see some substitute minutes as Bryce van Doren prepares to retire with some dignity. Left winger Christopher Xi is also expected to be a greater factor now that he is a year removed from playing in Felix.

Striker Vishnu Corvallis has been called up sooner than expected from Felix owing to a standout performance in the Di Bradini Cup, and it is hoped that he will compete with former Felix Maroons teammate Ricky Kong for the starting spot alongside team captain Paul Yamamoto. For his part, Yamamoto has entered treatment for severe bipolar disorder, which is believed to have caused his mood swings and periods of inconsistency in years passed, and it is hoped that with his mental health in order, he will be in better shape to lead this team back to the championship.

Green Star

Courtesy of Adler Sport, German-American States

Captain: Nuno Brotz
Nickname: Stars
Players In: Gareth Mortlock (BRE) (DF) from Rideway United (BRE)
Players Out: Anatole Klerken (DF) (retired)
Last season: 3rd in Green League, UICA Globe Cup second preliminary round
Prediction: 2nd

Green Star is known to be a club of innovators, but lately it has seemed that the copycats are doing it better. They were the first club to sign a foreign player, then-seventeen year-old Licentian midfielder Bruce Stevenson, who has since become a set piece of a team that lacks the punch to do any better than last year. With Nuno Brotz's confidence fading, it is unclear what direction this club will take in the coming years, but all but the most optimistic of fans believe it will get worse before it gets better.

Defensively, Green Star has addressed its immediate need for a good central defender with Gareth Mortlock, an international from Brenecia. It is hoped with some national team experience in both Mortlock and Colby Huff, who received his first cap in the ninth Campionato, that the defense can step up and be more of a factor compared to the waning offense. Young goalkeeper Amadi Bauers was a pleasant surprise last year, filling the shoes once held by Eugene London, Cormac Danielson's backup on the national teams of old, quite well, and it is hoped he will develop into an elite Green League keeper.

The midfield is a strange animal, as center-mid Bruce Stevenson continues to improve despite having relatively few targets. With Brotz's retirement on the horizon, it is expected that Stevenson will assume a leading role in the team both on and off the field, but his with his role still in constant flux, it is almost a mystery why he stays with Nova Tunis when there are so many teams in his native Licentian Isles that would appear to be more than happy to take him back.

As for the forwards, Sachie Russell and Rhett Coakes have both shown some promise the past few years, but it remains to be seen how strong they will be without Brotz as a threat against defenses. The addition of striker Treta from Huelandia may be a pre-emptive attempt to replace Brotz, or it may be an attempt to kick the other strikers into high gear.

St Jermaine FC

Image
Courtesy of Adler Sport, German-American States

Captain: Brandon Roybal
Nickname: Jackrabbits
Players In: Chris Guildenstern (NSB) (GK) from Leichhardt (NSB), Ryan van der Wall (MF) from St Jermaine University
Players Out: Prynce Yates (MF) (released)
Last season: 4th in Green League, UICA Globe Cup first preliminary round
Prediction: 5th

FC St. Jermaine has long had its identity defined by the university with which it shares its field, with most of its ticket sales coming when the Templars were not at home. In recent years, however, the FC has begun a life of its own, starting when an intern at Adler Sport decided that "Jackrabbits" would be a good name for a club and it stuck, and continuing to the newly-christened "Jackrabbits" qualifying for UICA for the first time last year and signing a foreign goalkeeper to compete with their university-grown players. A club known for slow, delaying, university-style football is becoming a real force to be reckoned with in the Green League, but it remains to be seen how long this trend can continue.

Defensively, St. Jermaine has one of the best back fours of any team in the league, led by national team fullback Brandon Roybal. The addition of Chris Guildenstern from New Sideburn between the pipes will only bolster the defense's abilities and allow Roybal to shine as the best defender left in Taijan after Chris Nguyen's departure, with Thomas Kuhn remaining as an option in case the Sideburnese should fail to pan out for any reason. Jordan Lamar has been a teammate of Roybal's since their shared days at St. Jermaine Prep, a run of a dozen years now, and will complement his friend as well as he always has.

In the midfield, the Jackrabbits have once again tapped their usual source, the University, to address a major gap that created problems for the defense last year. Former Templar Prynce Yates has been released, while U-21 national team captain and recent SJU graduate Ryan van der Wall seems a more than adequate replacement at center-mid, having been a standout for the Junior Ibex team that performed above all expectations at the thirtieth Di Bradini Cup in Starblaydia this past summer.

Strikers have never been St. Jermaine's strong suit, but Chris Lewis has done a respectable job after matriculating from the University, and as long as he continues, the team should have no problem scoring enough goals to get some wins in addition to their signature draws. A rotation of ex-University strikers exists to complement Lewis up front, but a more aggressive player from the outside might add some poignancy to this offense.

St Ignatius
Image Image Image
Courtesy of Adler Sport, German-American States

Captain: Liam Renner
Nickname: Birds of Death
Players In: Gaburu (DF) (DAI), Leshay (DF) (DAI) from Project +90 (NSI)
Players Out: Rakkims Epps (DF) (retired)
Last season: 5th in Green League, International FireStorm Cup
Prediction: 6th

Last year represented something of a return to form for the Birds of Death, who contended in UICA last year only to miss it by a single win this year to a resurgent St. Jermaine and retake their position near the middle of the table. Nevertheless, some personnel shifts may see the renaissance continue, if only until Liam Renner finally retires.

The Birds' defense was the main concern last year, as they conceded twenty-six goals, the second-most of any team to finish in the top half of the Green League and had a negative goal ratio. To address this, two Daineri defenders, Leshay and Gaburu, both eighteen years of age, have been signed from Project +90 of Northern Sunrise Islands. It is unclear how much effect these two youngsters will have on the sagging St. Ignatius defense, but it can hardly get worse with some new legs in front of the goal. Melissa Clarke of The Inevitable Syndicate, the second of two female U-21 goalies, will look to improve upon last year's mediocre goalkeeping with an international approach.

The midfield remains much the same as it was, with Liam Renner as its set piece, as well as the lynchpin of the entire team, just as he was last year. The other two midfielders are mostly interchangeable with anyone on the bench, but are by no means liabilities to this team; it just doesn't matter to whom Renner passes, so long as there is someone.

Lane Kaspirisin came out of nowhere last season to win the bronze boot and a spot on the Green Ibex team in the ninth Campionato. A good pickup for sure from a failing Gold League team, Kaspirisin provides some much-needed pressure up front, and his tireless speed and stamina make him a good outlet for Renner's footwork. His experience in the Campionato is sure to help with his domestic football, as well, and he may well arrive as a dominant striker this year.
