The Aurentine Senate,

REALISING that tariffs tend to adversely distort consumer prices on some goods which are basic necessities of living,

BELIEVING that no one should have to pay a tariff on basic amenities,

RECOGNISING that certain imported products from foreign producers better satisfy consumer tastes and preferences,

Hereby passes the following measures:

Defines:

1. Food as any non-liquid substance consumed in order to provide sustenance and basic subsistence.
2. Beverage as any liquid substance consumed in order to provide sustenance and basic subsistence.
3. Clothing as any fibre or textile material used to cover or adorn the body.
4. Medicinal Good as any product that is used in treatment or prevention of disease.
5. Tariff as a tax on an imported good.
6. Alcoholic Beverage as any beverage containing alcohol.
7. Custom-Made Clothing as clothing made according to the specifications of an individual purchaser.
8. Lavish Clothing as clothing that is sumptuously rich, elaborate, or luxurious, as decided by the Ministry of Customs.
9. Lavish Food as food that is sumptuously rich, elaborate, or luxurious, as decided by the Ministry of Customs.
   

Exempts the following from all tariffs, with exceptions defined below:

1. Food
2. Beverages
3. Clothing
4. Medicinal Goods

Excepts the following from the aforementioned tariff exemptions:

1. Alcoholic Beverages
2. Custom-Made Clothing
3. Lavish Clothing
4. Lavish Foods

Because of the following clause.

b. Parents who receive three punishments from the court, not regarding whether the reasons behind are related to children and youngsters or not, will be forced to hand over all their children to the CAYPA.

It is a three strike policy that does not take into account what the crime or action is. This could literally be anything from shouting at the child to smacking 3 times. Seriously handing over children for three inconsequential acts that whilst not the best behavior do not warrant that! It's authoritarian rubbish.

We need about 3000-5000 beds not 87,000. We don't have that many homeless. It's just a massive waste of money.

"Good luck." Robert turned to see a fellow Progress Coalition senator, the older man taking his steps slowly to the backbenches where he would sit. On the front bench was where Robert sat, surrounded by his cabinet ministers and coalition leadership. It was a strange division of power. While on a battlefield of old the Generals may have watched over the fighting from afar, here the leaders held the front line while others looked on from above. At quarter past ten, Central European Time, the chamber would soon close to a halt and the senators disperse - he hoped to leave them with a speech worthy of reflection. As a young NFC senator sat down, after a long and unimpressive drone about the inefficiencies of public railways, Robert stood to make the first indent of opposition into the new government.

Dear Senators and people of this nation,

It has been just eight days since our newest government assumed their office as elected representatives of the people. Yet, having worked our way through those first few days, we may begin to make our first impression of the government elected.

Unfortunately, at least from my perspective, those impressions are not so flattering. I would review the policies of this government, yet they have barely hinted at any such myths such as a clear outline of direction for me to review – Let alone all make clear, individual statements about how they wish to govern Aurentina effectively.

And for this I must seek an answer. Within a week, the last government was ablaze with initiative and progress – Now, we await the next call from a cabinet of craven conservatives, too scared to take any stance for fear they shall displease either the wealthy who fund them or the very people they are supposed to serve. If they cannot stomach this in order to save their people, they cannot truly lead a nation.

Yet, 'they' who I speak to are perhaps not to blame. 'They' - the President, the Prime Minister, the cabinet – are simply fulfilling my every expectation of a government built on “tradition” and a “free market”. The former is a rejection of efficiency and progression in favour of old, backwards, methods. The latter is the oppression of capitalism, using finance to control the lives of the average citizen in favour of those who live with luxury. If any person can accept such principles, than how can we expect them to serve the people who elected them? Perhaps we should look towards those who placed their faith in such a government and expected it to perform, those who must now reflect upon their actions. If you are one of those who supported such a government's rise to power, think deeply and think how you may correct yourself – If the past few days are something to go by, this government will most certainly not justify your faith. Change is needed and the government shall not provide it.

It is in this pitiful state that the great nation of Aurentina now finds itself. It is up to those in power to change that and take our ship forwards, rather than allowing the wind to slowly drift us backwards through the ocean. It is over the next few days that our current regime must prove their worth, prove the supposed worth for which the were elected.
