Team InfoAnother bottom half finish and it seems the greatest club in league history may be headed for a few years at the lower end of the pack. Certainly they will never have a problem with the relegation part of the sphere, but with some notable weak spots, and their continued inability to spend on players it’s a hard time in the capital city for its biggest club.

Championships:24, 25, 27, 28, 29
Last Season Finish:5th
Team InfoAnother international appearance and another solid season overall from the oldest team in Bayern. But with the continual lack of championships and the level of players on the team, one wonders why they cannot seal the deal.

Ground:Bayern Stadium 24,000
Manager:Vladimir Okra
Colors:Red and Black
Fan Support:High
Expectations:Win League, Top Rivals Bayern Phoenix

Championships:17, 22, 23, 31
Last Season Finish:8th
Team InfoA down year from the second club in Bayern, not only losing out to their rivals but losing out in general. No international play and the loss of their captain in the offseason to retirement could mean a head to darker times. Saugeain captain Julien LeClerc will have to take the reins and somehow pull them back up to their former levels.

Nickname(s):Blues
Offseason Moves:None
Championships:
Last Season Finish:14th
Team InfoA small fall down in their overall position from the previous season the Blues don’t have a lot to fret about though in the long run. It was a very good overall performance and with the return of all the key cogs the team looks poised to have a better season this upcoming one.

Ground:Capetown Stadium 34,000

Nickname(s):Croc’s, The Ancients
Offseason Moves:None
Last Season Finish:7th
Team InfoFrom barely winning promotion in a playoff game to top 7 in the league in one season. It was an impressive campaign from the northernmost premier league team. Now Capetown has a chance to do things they have not done in decades, make international play, beat on their former tormentors, maybe even shock the country.

Last Season Finish:21st
Team InfoThe keys to the ship have been handed over to the future Taeshani Goalkeeping star Myung Wook Yu. Problem is he at 18 will have to almost single handily prevented opposing scorers thanks to a less than makeshift back 5. Beyond Captain Tyler Provyay the backline is a goal waiting to happen.

Championships:30, 33, 34, 35

Last Season Finish:1st
Team InfoThe most accomplished season in team history, finishing at the top of the pyramid and most notably beating the Hurricanes. The team has accomplished more than any in their history, and made Atlantea the second city to have two different teams win the championship. Now with their whole right side changed it will be interesting to see how they do with the x now on their back.

Nickname(s):Miners
Offseason Moves:None
Championships:
Last Season Finish:22nd
Team InfoAnother season at the bottom for Taeshan City. It’s not more a matter of when they get relegated than if. With a few late wins they always seem to pull into a playoff or even out of a playoff, but one day there luck will surely run out.

Championships:30
Last Season Finish:3rd
Team InfoA great season once again from the team from Tintown. Now they just have to go through the grind once more. With a new goalie to break in they might be a little behind to start the season, but there is no doubt that they might just have an impressive season.

Sponsor:Winehold Crematorium
Nickname(s):Marauders
Offseason Moves:
Championships:14
Last Season Finish:10th
Team InfoMaybe last season we were a bit too early to call foul in the case of this young team. It looked bad when a bunch of teens were thrown onto the field, but they seemed not only able to do it, but they put a flair on the field in X Island that hasn’t been seen in many a year.

Ground:Yaton Insurance Park 88,000

the winner of the cup has access to participate in the Cygnus Cup.

29 Dinamo Chiton 58 16 13 29 64 89 −25 61
30 Tekunin RED 58 16 12 30 58 77 −19 60

After being the mere nineth team of the league last season, Nadeshiko Sotogi impressed the
entire season and took over the title with a landslide advantage, while Quaoning Guoan once
again guaranteed their spot at the CEdC with one point on top of Shaokong Luneng and Haelin
Renhe, both earning a spot at the Heritage Cup, while Junfan Evergrande fell two points
short of that. Mowkerai Joonon, Hang Pning Shide, Guangshae Shenhua and National University
were also on the fight.

Surprisingly, Seongmina Blazblue and Manji Yunomitsu did well on their first season at the
First League, managing to finish their season at the top half, surpassing more experienced
teams straight away. The other two that promoted last season, Grandi Qianjiawan and Pengjiayao
Emperio, ended up getting relegated back, however.

Along with those two, Dinamo Chiton and Tekunin RED couldn't avoid the inevitable, respecting
their history with lower positions, obtaining the last two spots and a relegation. Junfan
Greentown barely escaped and you can't say much from Wushu Guanghan, Guangshae Shenxin and
Haelin Lifan. Impressively, however, Xiaoyu Blades somehow managed to drop from their great
football last season to finish this season at the 22nd position.

29 Baetan Youth 58 13 18 27 44 65 −21 57
30 Koenken Torojo 58 9 17 32 55 92 −37 44

After being relegated last season, Linmei Lanshi get the title of the Second League on the
last matchdays. The team of Linmei had most of its competition consisting solely, however,
of Overdrive Sotogi, who is also on their way to promotion next season. Ultimo Phieenin and
Chonkeng Tempestrain complete the final four.

Also of note, Donarudo Jokerit's first season under the new name ends with an embarassing
25th place, showing how far a team can fall from their past, specially when the team was at
the First League not too long ago. Also relegated from last season, Mowkerai Whowin fell short
of promotion, while Junfan Ginde did decently, ending on the top half of the ladder.

Oroching Chrisantemae barely evolved from last season's Wooden Spoon, honor which is on the
hands of Koenken Torojo this season, with Baetan Youth one position on front of the team of
the Torojo Municipality and Hanbaong Semprestrong three positions on front.

Chun-nan (CHU) entries
CEdC: Nadeshiko Sotogi, Quaoning Guoan

Chun-nan CEdC final site bid
Phoenix Road
Image
Capacity: 65,000

Home Stadium of four teams of the Chun-nan Football Pyramid, Shaokong Luneng of the First League, Fu-lo Alpina (crowd shown on the photo, after all F.L.A.), Haemai Construction and Haemai Parceiro, on the south of Chun-nan, the Phoenix Road is known as one of the two big stadiums of Chun-nan, siding with the Dragon Road at Quaoning, with both being around the 60,000 to 70,000 capacity, while all other stadiums of the country tend to have really smaller capacities. The Phoenix Road was chosen by the Chun-nan Football Association as their host bid thanks to the fact that Quaoning Guoan is already in the tournament and also because of how fans react there, making a spectacle on their own.
This is Chun-nan. A puppet of Northern Sunrise Islands!

Note: Green=Postseason play qualification

Surprise comes here early in the season as several traditionally top-flight teams, including the defending champions Alle-GAS sit in the relegation spot. SC Gold Löwe has come out with a flurry of goals and is holding a very admirable +13 and the #1 spot in the GAPL. Media coverage has been at a height in Milwaukeesburg with the first woman in the GAPL leading her team. Kaltstadt Blizzards FC and fellow rivals Nordbergen hold the next two spots, with Grünwalder close behind. Another point of note is the newly-promoted teams have held their own against top talent, with Kaltstadt 68 coming in 5th and Gengenbach at 7th.

Note: Green=Promotion to the GAPL

The top 9 teams seem to be in a very close race for the top two spots. The big story is the transfer-window spending on an ultra-defensive team for newly relegated Sporting Eisenport FC is seeming to work. They stand at the top of the table, with new GAFFCL team 1. Catamount Pond FC close behind. It looks like this year's promotion spots could be very contentious.

In Ligat Aleph, the premier football league in the Ashkenaz Republic, this season saw the continued dominance of Netanya Capital F.C. and their bitter rivals in the Capital Region, Hapoel Manasseh F.C. The tension of that rivalry went frustratingly unresolved all season, with each of three season match-ups resulting in 1-1 or 2-2 draws. But Netanya Capital's superior performance in road games gave them the points needed to clench fist in the Capital Region (as well as first overall), securing on of two coveted first-round byes in this year's National Cup. The frustrated Hapoel Manasseh F.C. took second place overall, but will have to compete in the first round of the Republic Cup. Hapoel Asher F.C. won the North Region, and managed to earn the other first-round bye in the Republic Cup. Ramat HaSharon F.C. took first place in the South Region and will compete alongside regional rival Nazereth F.C. and Aryeh Judah F.C., the second place team in the North Region. Kiryat Ram F.C., promoted last year from Ligat Bet, outdid expectations, finishing a respectable third in the South Region and tenth overall. With 30 losses, last place Kibbutz Lehi F.C. will face relegation to Ligat Bet.

1 Hapoel Ephram F.C. 45 18 16 11 63 45 +18 70

10 Hapoel Gad F.C. 45 14 8 23 57 67 −10 50

Hapoel Ephram F.C. won the North Region and squeezed into first place in Ligat Bet through goal difference alone, thereby earning a promotion to Ligat Aleph next season. South Region champions Shomrei HaShalom F.C. has cause for frustration with this ruling, as they had more wins than Hapoel Ephram and would have been promoted but for goal difference. Still, they have a chance for vengeance in the Baruch Cup. Second place teams also qualifying for the Baruch Cup were Hapoel Dan F.C. (representing the South Region) and Netanya F.C. (for the North Region). No teams will be facing relegation from Ligat Bet this year.

Ligat Gimmel had a hard fought season, filled with upsets. Favorite Migvan F.C. only managed second in the North Region and fourth overall, barely qualifying for the Solomon University Invitational, while expected underdog Bat Yam F.C. surprised all to take first place in the South Region and first overall, using its staunch defense and goalkeeping. Rishon LeZion F.C. won the North Region against expectations, while Kibbutz Mish'ol F.C. was a terror against out of region opponents and took second in the South Region.

Everyone laugh at Altsby and Castle. That's what we did. 3 goals in 52 games is certainly hilarious, in a morbid sort of way. We don't know if presenting the team with wooden cutlery will improve their shooting, but we gave the team the wooden spoon award anyway. They deserved it, after that wonderful display of how to suck at football. Only Felismarch let more goals in, and they at least managed to get 26 goals, which is a nice figure that means they scored one goal in every two games. Of course, we always knew who was going to lose. But the winner? Much less certain. Top ranked team White Market looked a likely winner, but were pipped at the post by Upton-on-Rode. Yay for the Diamonds! Gallifor came in third, also taking the prize for goal fever with an impressive 135 goals. Bitterley takes the award for most average, with an impressive 16-17-19 record, and a goal difference of just +1. Congratulations to them.

I'm sorry, but I don't recall signing my third league champions up for any international matches, and I definitely wouldn't agree to your scorinating any such match.

Matchdays 11-20 saw the marquee teams claw themselves back into top positions. Several teams are now in a position to make runs for postseason play. Alle-GAS managed to get themselves out of a relegation spot, but could fall back into that spot. Löwe has seperated themselves a bit in 1st, but KBFC and Nordbergen are still in range. There are multiple teams that have set themselves up for good postseason runs.

Sargossa’s Contenders

The wheelers and dealers are dealing and wheeling here in Sargossa as the start of one of the sportiverse’s most gruelling club competitions looms ever closer. Eight seasons have passed since Sargossan clubs replaced their Pocoan rivals in the Liga De Fuego and the competition is as fiercely contested as ever. The league has been a huge hit across northern Rushmore and the TV audiences have plenty to digest as Sargossan and Pasargan clubs look to clash again across a mighty seventy rounds of matches. And Pasargan giants CA Paulinthal are the target in everyone’s sights.

Chief among the chasers should be Sporting San Marquez, the perennial nearly men of the Liga in its current form. Backed by the seemingly bottomless pockets of beef baron Daniel Gil Sporting were a force in the old SuperLiga and took that form into the Liga De Fuego, twice finishing as runner’s up under Martín Tejera. Having left to become Sargossan national coach Tejera, following his sacking during the qualification campaign for World Cup 64, briefly returned to the helm to finally break the club’s Liga duck before heading off for a another crack at international management with Mangolana a year ago.

Agustín Durán replaced the prodigal son at the helm, a popular choice thanks to his passion for an attractive brand of attacking football that twice took former club Dínamo Maturín to fourth place. And the new man almost enjoyed a dream debut season, losing out to CAP by a single point after a devastating defeat to mid-table SC Myrkan on matchday sixty nine.

Once again Sargossan number one Ezequiel Medrán will form an imposing barrier at the back while fallbacks Maidana and Formica revel in driving forward at will. Lucas Ramís anchors the midfielder and fans will hope his partnership with new signing Luís Enrique Insa bears fruit. Upfront national team striker Mariano Estrada is coming under increasing pressure from talented youngster Federico Noyola.

Preferred Formation: 4-4-3. Probable starting eleven (Listed L to R)
Ezequiel Medrán -- Lautaro Formica - Cristian Díaz - Diego Mercado - Mauro Maidana -- Kike Galán - Lucas Ramís - Luís Enrique Insa -- Tomás Ferrero - Mariano Estrada - Javier Jerez

For your average club fourth and third place finishes probably wouldn’t be considered too bad. Unfortunately three time Liga De Fuego champions Ciudad Soluca aren’t your average club. Newly elected club president Fernando Herillo promised a common sense approach to management before promptly sacking both the coach and sporting director. Club legend Ernesto Farías is the new man in the manager’s chair, having stepped down as national Under-21 coach while veteran Gabriel Vizcarra, despite his connections to city rivals Sportivo, adds a whole wealth of experience as the new sporting director.

Knowing his worth from the Olympic Games squad new coach Farías has already bemoaned the loss of fallback Cristiano Damían to the lure of Astograth. But he’s still left with a plethora of young talents, the attacking trident of Rodolfo Armijo, Saturnín Quinteros and Cesaro Ambriz being particularly worthy of note. Sargossan international Ivan Ávila looks set to be deployed in the hole while at the back Mauro Fernández and Guillermo Lucena form a solid partnership. The acquisition of experienced keeper Silvio Romero from Sportivo Cordova can only be a good thing.

Preferred Formation: 4-2-3-1. Probable starting eleven (Listed L to R)
Silvio Romero -- Carlos Llabrés - Mauro Fernández - Guillermo Lucena - Oscar Sala -- Germán Vignolo - Aitor Fontecha -- Rodolfo Armijo - Ivan Ávila - Saturnín Quinteros -- Cesaro Ambriz

It pains the locals, but where Ciudad go Gozan giants El Nacional tend to be somewhere behind. A lone runner’s up spot (a mere twenty two points behind the leaders) has been as good as its got for a side that pines for the days when they were a real force in both local and global football, and a TakilQuip Champions Cup winner to boot. Coach Diego Lara faces the usual calls to rejuvenate a squad whose average age remains the wrong side of thirty. The acquisition of Sporting’s Rodrigo Hoyos hasn’t really helped in that regard but it is certainly one of the more intriguing moves of the summer. Centreback and captain Leandro Gonzàlez will again feature as the talisman, alongside a rare touch of youth in Orlondo Camarena. Lara has been experimenting with a Starblaydi style diamond in midfield which will put an awful lot of focus on playmaker Álex Abayo.

Preferred Formation: 4-4-2 Diamond. Probable starting eleven (Listed L to R)
Omar Cuerdo –- Bruno Ríos - Orlondo Camarena - Leandro Gonzàlez - Gonzalo Soriano –- José FélixIván López - Álex Abayo - Rodrigo Hoyos -– Andrés JaraVicenté Roberto

Once derided as perennial chokers, the Sportivo Cordova effort in the Liga De Fuego has been much more consistent. And the side from the port city once again wrapped up a place in the Globe Cup, albeit by the narrowest of margins. Darío Sanchís may not be the most expansive of coaches but he has his team drilled to near perfection, meaning no side relished a trip to the Estadio Del Mar last season. At the back Javíer Sisón and Aurelio Pascual formed one of the league’s most formidable partnerships but they’ll have a new man behind them, with Germán Uribe replacing the Ciudad bound Silvio Romero.

Defensive solidarity will mean little if Sportivo lose their knack of soaking up the pressure and then breaking forward at high speed. But with the creative talent of Antonio José Ramos added to the centre of midfield and the pace of fellow new signing Álvaro Uceta bombing down the flank, big striker Aritz Rodríguez shouldn’t be shy of chances.

Preferred Formation: 4-5-1. Probable starting eleven (Listed L to R)
Germán Uribe –- Miguel Pérez - Javíer Sisón - Aurelio Pascual Sergio Ruiz -- Álvaro UcetaMario Javier - Antonio José Ramos - Juan MartínSebastían Franco -- Aritz Rodríguez

It’s not often that the limelight moves from Dínamo Maturín across the city to their much smaller neighbours Sportivo but last year was an impressive one for the little ‘uns. Sixth place in Liga 2, just two points off promotion, and a narrow defeat to Pasargan giants CAP in the final of Copa de La Luna y El Fuego certainly captured the imagination. And surely it will serve to drive Dínamo onwards after a campaign which saw them just miss out on the global cup spots. That disappointment aside, it was a much improved showing from a club long considered to be a model of good management in the often short tempered world of Sargossan football. Which will be music to the ears of coach Jésus Vazquez whose first year back in Rushmore after a dismal spell in charge of the Corsairs and subsequent self-imposed sporting exile in the Babbage Islands was a good one.

Defensive solidarity was the base upon which Dínamo built their season, goalkeeper Armando Abad holding the record for clean sheets for the campaign, but at the other end of the pitch it was a different story. Only one other side in the top twenty scored fewer goals so freshening up the attack has been the coach’s principal focus in pre-season. Rubio Bayamo hitman Jonathan Martínez has been added to the roster and playmaker Iván Salas, a key figure in Sportivo’s success, has moved across the city. The Dínamo academy too has never been without its gems, with mercurial winger Federico Cifuentés and talented centreback José Antonio Avalos expected to see plenty of pitch time. With some added pep in attack and the Ciudad Deportiva crowd behind them a global cup place shouldn’t be out of their grasp.

Preferred Formation: 4-2-3-1. Probable starting eleven (Listed L to R)
Armando AbadAlejandro Aznarez - Mauricio Portillo - José Antonio Avalos - Francisco CarreñoJesűs Gutierrez - Juan Pablo Roncal -- Federico Cifuentés - Iván SalasMarcos Vázquez -- Jonathan Martínez

Looking at the final league tables, it looks like it was a very competitive season. The top 6 teams were very close to qualifying. Löwe ran away with the Champion's Cup qualification during the late matchdays, securing their spot for their first GAFFCL season title. The two teams from Nordbergen(Nordbergen and Kalstadt Blizzards FC) will play in the Globe Cup in the postseason. Strafenburg 26 and Westenklippe fell to the 2. Liga for next season. Overall, a very competitive and good season in the GAPL.

Offseason News:

As expected, the offseason meetings culminated in discussions over how to fill the remaining places in the National League. The first eight spots had been determined by the previous season’s National Championship, but there remained at least four spots left, with the option to expand slightly if needed.

Already getting the nod to join the top tier were:

Bob’s Towing FC (National Champions, M-League West Shield Holder)
International of Tyrellia (K-League Shield Holder and National Finalist)
The Knights of Tiberia (M-League East Shield Holder)
Comunas Cougars (Federation Open Cup Winner)
Tyrellia Titans (K-League Runner-Up and Federation Open Cup Finalist)
LC Capitals (M-League West Runner-Up)
Draig Goch FC (M-League East Runner-Up)
Rye’s Landing FC (K-League 3rd Place and National Championship Participant)

The discussion immediately focused on the mainland, the Island clubs silently acknowledging that four entries out of twelve was enough. With no teams west of Plainsview up for an invite, it was quickly decided to award Sagdineo sides Coastal United and Bekknia FC places in the National League, owing to their built-up stadia, and presumed ability to be competitive. This out of the way, attention shifted eastward, where Binchensburg Athletic and Tiberian City were strongly considered to be the best teams left. However, simply adding these two was not considered a lock, owing to other factors; namely, geographic considerations. City, which shared Tiberia with Knights, was a team owners considered passing over in favor of either a team from the Francopolitan area, or with a team from the South. However, lobbying from - of all teams - Knights worked to get the entire Tiberian Derby promoted to the top tier.

Of course, with the layout now set up to have twelve in the National League, eight in the second-tier K-League, and another sixteen on the mainland’s second tier, some teams saw an opportunity - specifically, the clubs from the south, Myre Town and Rhinos, the latter based in the port city of Gavelton. Both argued that the area needed some representation, and that it would be even better served by a pair of teams. Opposing this was Francis City and Argyle Warriors, both clubs from Legalese’s oldest and most-populous city; they felt that they should have the two spots, arguing that the league would be better served with two teams in Francis City at the top, rather than none.

Of course, this is where the K-League’s sides intervened, seeing a concern: with the decision to expand to fourteen, they naturally felt shortchanged by only receiving four teams into the National League - especially considering that clubs from the Island represented half of the National Championship bracket the year before. While they could have held fast and caused serious trouble, they instead decided to use their bargaining position for leverage on other things they wanted.

In return for supporting the fourteen team configuration that started with ten mainland clubs, they were able to secure automatic promotion for the K-League Shield Holders, playoff spots for the K-League runner-up and third-place sides that opened the ability for both to promote at once, and - most importantly, the addition of a new wrinkle to the National Championship, currently slated to take the top three finishers from the National League with the second-tier Shield Holders and the Fed Cup winner: the National Champion would, in addition to getting a one-time relegation exemption usable from the time of the victory through the next three seasons, also earn a “battlefield promotion”; in short, if the cup winner was a team from the K-League or M-League that did not earn a promotion spot otherwise, they would automatically promote to the National League.

With these concessions in place, one more was proposed by Myre Town: that if the National League were to expand, it would bring the majority of those teams from the K-League, to balance the geography a little - assuming performance doesn’t handle that. This additional snippet prompted the twelve Island clubs, voting en masse, to tip the scales in favor of the southern clubs, Myre Town and Rhinos.

The offseason wrangling out of the way, the season could begin again, with three leagues playing over two divisions, a knockout cup competition, all leading to the Legalese National Championship, and the battle for the Golden Shield.

The National League: Inaugural Season

Finally, after years of wrangling, as well as a year of organized regional play, the top-level National League opened play with fourteen of Legalese’s best professional sides. Incorporating the two-legged format utilized by the M-Leagues the year prior, the National League awards the first-ever Silver Shield to the champion, places in the National Championship for the top three, plus a guaranteed Globe Cup spot for each of the top three - fourth-place having to hope that they can earn a UICA trip by virtue of one of the top three taking home the Golden Shield as well.

Going into the season, the predictions were pretty clear: the winner was likely to come from one of the previous season’s shield holders, with Bob’s Towing the odds-on favorite. Long the home club of a number of National Teamers, including current forward Jimmy Jay, Towing was everyone’s pick to follow up on winning the M-League West with the first National League title, putting them in the driver’s seat for another National Championship. Helping with this assessment was a startling lack of player transactions, most clubs opting to make changes from within, rather than buy/sell with each other.

That said, other strong performers from the year before couldn’t be ruled out. The Knights of Tiberia, while only beating out Draig Goch by a single point, had the league virtually wrapped up with three weeks to go, and returned the same side as before. Meanwhile, International, one of the two Tyrellian and four Karin Island sides in the competition, was used to tight battles, having won the K-League on the last day to finish a single point ahead of their rivals, Tyrellia Titans. This experience seemed like it could be useful.

However, as we would all come to find out, the only thing that mattered were the results on the field, and how the twenty-six matches for each side came up on the scoreline:

Week 1: The opener was a good week for the home sides. The first match came on Saturday night, kicking off hours before the rest of the league, and would showcase the LC Capitals in cavernous National Stadium, where over 80,000 would watch them open the league with a 2-0 victory over Myre Town. Lane Wilson, expected to contend for the scoring title, would net his first tonight, but the future trivia question material went to his front-line partner Blake Moor, whose goal in the 34th minute - a strike from 20 yards out - would be the first goal in National League history.

On Sunday, much of the openers went to the home sides as expected, with only Rhinos falling to visiting Binchensburg 0-2, and Bekknia FC claiming a point on their Island journey to Comunas, ending with a scoreless draw.

The Game of the Week was saved for Sunday evening, playing under the lights at Gamma Arena in Plainsview, where the title defense began for Bob’s Towing. Towing started off strong with a 2-0 lead on Draig Goch, only to see the lead fade in the second half, with a Theo Rothweiler goal cutting the lead to one, and a Slade Brahm free kick equalizing. The match would stay level until stoppage time, when an incident happened that would forever change the course of the season. A charge by DGFC was stopped some thirty yards from the goal. Two quick passes found Sam Washington racing upfield, putting a ball through to Jimmy Jay, who only had to get a foot on it, and then around Red Dragon keeper Alonso Hemmer, who took a moment longer than one would expect to decide how to play the advancing ball. The hesitation doomed Hemmer either way, and yet, he still moved forward, diving hard towards the ball as it neared the penalty area, hoping against hope.

As it turns out, he would miss the ball entirely, Jimmy Jay having already made the touch away from him, and about to play it on goal. However, Jimmy had not gotten himself clear, and was wiped out by the flying keeper. The landing told everyone that it wasn’t good, and even though he had scored the game winner, the victory rang hollow for Bob’s Towing, as their star striker, Jimmy Jay, was declared out for the season with a broken leg. For Towing, the blow was fatal: while they would go on to win their next game, they would then go on a slide, winning only one of their next six, falling to seventh in the standings through eight matches.

Meanwhile, Towing’s runner-ups in the M-League West, the LC Capitals, would build upon their opening victory. A second home win followed right away over Comunas Cougars, followed by a road loss to Rye’s Landing, then another win to put them at the top of the very early table, going into their trip to Gamma Arena to face towing. A 1-0 win there, thanks to Wilson’s 50th minute goal, helped the Capitals remain at the top of the table through eight games, with a record of six wins and two losses.

In the final five matches of the opening half of the season, the parity and unpredictability became further apparent, as the top half of the table slid about. The Caps started off well with a road win in Tiberia over Knights, followed by knocking off Draig Goch at National, but then started a slide with a trip to Tyrellia, where they fell 3-1 to Titans. The following week was another struggle against a Tyrellian side, though at home, as National Stadium fell silent upon watching the travelling International of Tyrellia side snag a 1-0 victory, in what may be the first time a Cyrus Damhan goal on the National Team’s traditional home pitch was treated with dismay. LC closed out a nightmare run to hit halfway mark with a total shellacking at Bekkside Park, where Bekknia FC managed a 3-0 victory over a table-leading side that barely looked into the match.

As crisis loomed in the capital, the team surging was unexpected. Defending Cup winner Comunas Cougars was, in many ways, lucky to be here. While a clear top-half side in the K-League first season, the Cougars never really contended for the shield, finishing fifth in the post-split first division. In fact, the only thing that put them through was their Cup win, in which they had to endure two rounds of replays just to make it to the final sixteen, and had a favorable draw keep them on the Islands through the final, where they managed a victory over a slightly depleted Titans side, good enough for an invite to the National League.

Now a member of the top level, the Cougars were making it pay off. with four wins and a draw in their first five keeping them on the edge of contention, they were in the perfect spot to capitalize on a lull from Legalese City. With a win in Binchensburg, a draw at home with Knights, another draw - this one on the road - with fellow contender Draig Goch, and a needed set of wins with Tyrellian sides Titans and International - the latter on the road - gave Comunas the points needed to draw level with the Capitals, trailing only on a distant tiebreaker.

14 Myre Town 13 2 1 10 12 32 −20 7

Behind the joint-leaders were a few teams that could be dangerous. Tyrellia Titans, an early pick to contend, sat behind them by a single point, with Bob’s Towing and Rye’s Landing each three back, with twenty-one. The mid-table was marked by Tiberian City in sixth, only four points back, and Draig Goch and Coastal United in seventh and eighth, each only five behind the leaders. International, while struggling, remained seven points back, and five clear of the automatic demotion spots, where they stood level with Binchensburg Athletic.

At the bottom of the table stood two expected teams, one not entirely shocking, and one that left most flabbergasted. Myre Town, sitting in dead last, just simply did not look all that great - a shame, as Tarquin Waldrop deserved better than 32 goals allowed - and were essentially out with only seven points in their first thirteen. Rhinos had fared a little better, managing to win three and draw as many. Additionally, Bekknia FC, in the playoff position, was four points ahead of Rhinos, and that was hardly a shocker - they, like the two southern teams, were picked more for geography than for talent. Separating Bekknia FC and Rhinos, though, was The Knights of Tiberia, sitting in 12th with a mere 14 points.

Yes, that’s right - The Knights of Tiberia. Winners of the M-League East, and the predominant team in soccer-crazy Tiberia. They may have the older pitch, but they have more of the stars, including two National-Teamers. However, neither have played all that well - Benson Black tallying up fouls and cards, including a two-game suspension for a hard tackle from behind on Cougar forward Jake Detzler, and Ken Heath, Jr.’s disappointing pace of four goals in thirteen matches. A Globe Cup appearance for them a year before, it looked very likely that The Knights of Tiberia could be returning to the M-League come next season.

While the tables spell out one picture, the story tells a different one. The LC Capitals, despite leading the league, had only taken six points in five games, barely hanging on. Also in turmoil are the Knights of Tiberia, falling into the playoff zone for survival. With Cougars, Titans, and even Bob’s Towing nipping at their heels, how will the table leaders react?

The return legs started with the Tiberian Derby, where the seemingly wounded Knights opened up Protectorate Road for a clash with the Phoenix of Tiberian City. The Knights looked back in form up top, as Spurius Varon took the lead, scoring twice and assiting Ken Heath on a goal. The win would immediately have an impact, for while Rhinos also managed a victory, it was over Binchensburg Athletic, drawing them level with Knights, while Bekknia managed a home with with Comunas Cougars to leap over Athletic and move out of the danger zone. At the top, the LC Capitals retained their lead, only now on points, thanks to a snoozer of a win in Myre. Of the top four, only Titans kept pace, with a 5-1 win over Coastal; Bob’s Towing fell to Draig Goch, while Rye’s Landing lost an all-island battle with International of Tyrellia.

Week Fifteen was a pivotal week at both ends of the table. The bottom four were all facing off, with Binchensburg Athletic hosting Myre Town, and the Knights traveling south to Gavelton to take on Rhinos. At the top, two primetime matches ensued: a Saturday nighter with Bob’s Towing hosting Tyrellia Titans, and the Sunday Game of the Week between Comunas Cougars and the LC Capitals. The bottom matches all were suspenseful in their lack of resolution, with draws keeping each team in the same place, with only a point more than before. The Saturday night showcase turned out to be a tough match for the home side, as Bob’s Towing conceded two goals early, handing the Titans a 2-1 victory. 24 hours later, The LC Capitals attempted to match the feat, only to fall 2-1 to the Cougars in Comunas.

What was so important about these two results? At this point in the season, the Tyrellia Titans took the top spot in the table. From this point on, they steadfastly refused to let go, in spite of numerous attempts by the opposition. The Titans would solidify their hold over the next two weeks, scoring wins over Tiberian City and Rhinos, while the Caps would draw with RLFC, and lose in Sagdineo to Coastal United 3-1. The Cougars, meanwhile, would have two shock draws to Myre Town and RLFC, results that while poor, would allow them to slip ahead of the Caps for second place:

Meanwhile, the battle at the bottom had intensified. With nine matches left, the only near certainty was Myre Town going down, as they trailed Rhinos and Binchensburg Athletic by ten points. Ahead of the two teams fighting to not be the other one in the automatic relegation slot were Bekknia FC with twenty-one points, followed by Knights with twenty-two putting them level with, of all teams, Bob’s Towing.

The fluidity of the situation furthered over the next two weeks, as Towing fell to the LC Capitals at National Stadium, while Knights lost to Draig Goch in a 2-0 match they were never in. Below them, the Rhinos also fell, a 6-0 rout to International, while Athletic pulled themselves ahead of Rhinos on points with a draw to the league-leading Titans. The next week saw Knights recover with a win over the Titans, but saw Towing slip again, this time allowing the Cougars to score three at home, keeping the visitors in striking distance of the shield, while formally dropping Bob’s Towing into the danger zone. A finish in this spot would require the defending champs to win a playoff just to stay up, and posed questions as to if the relegation exemption, voted on over the offseason, would apply to them as well.

As the battle at the bottom raged, another battle came into focus - the all-important third position, the difference between a shot at the National Championship - plus a guaranteed spot in the Globe Cup - and a stay at home, where they would have to hope that a top three finisher’s National Title would give them their Globe Cup spot. With four to play, the attention was focused on the slipping Capitals, sitting in third with a one-point lead on Draig Goch FC, a team that fell just short of intercontinential play the year before.

The early game in week 20 was between the Caps and the Rhinos, and ended in a bit of a surprise, with the Gavelton side leading 2-0 at the half, and formally taking a 3-1 win back from Legalese City with them, a win needed in their fight to stay ahead of Binchensburg in the relegation fight. This set the stage for Draig Goch, but put them in a tough position - the point they would need to pass had to come from the leading Tyrellia Titans on the road, points the Titans needed after Cougar’s 3-1 win at City put them in a position to end the day with the league lead. The Titans would match Comunas’s result, handing the Red Dragons a 3-1 loss on the road, keeping them behind Legalese City.

Week Twenty-One brought a new name into the conversation, however. International of Tyrellia, travelling on the road and having a mostly quiet season, roared to life at Caerangelion in Numalia. Cyrus Damhan scored twice enroute to a 3-1 win over the hosting Red Dragons, and effectively ended Draig Goch’s chances of catching the LC Capitals for third. For International, however, the situation improved, falling to just three points back of the Capitals.

With four matches remaining, the table looked like this:
Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Tyrellia Titans 22 13 3 6 45 23 +22 42
2 Comunas Cougars 22 11 7 4 33 23 +10 40
3 LC Capitals 22 12 2 8 36 30 +6 38
4 International 22 10 5 7 36 30 +6 35
5 Coastal United 22 10 5 7 32 32 0 35
6 Draig Goch 22 9 5 8 35 29 +6 32
7 Bekknia FC 22 8 7 7 32 22 +10 31
8 Bob's Towing 22 8 5 9 31 26 +5 29
9 RLFC 22 7 8 7 29 26 +3 29
10 Tiberian City 22 8 4 10 28 31 −3 28
11 Knights 22 7 5 10 26 34 −8 26
12 Rhinos 22 7 5 10 20 36 −16 26
13 Binchensburg Athletic 22 4 10 8 27 39 −12 22
14 Myre Town 22 3 3 16 21 50 −29 12

Titans had a narrow lead, but one that could’ve potentially come apart in week twenty five, as they hosted Cougars in what was essentially the decider. Fortunately for them, they were able to hold off the vicious attacks from the visiting side, keeping a three-point lead going into the finale, with the title virtually assured.

At the bottom, a three-way tie for the last safe spot had ensued after 24 weeks, with Knights and Rhinos catching RLFC at 29 points. Binchensburg Athletic trailed all three by four points, needing results in the final weeks to survive, even if survival was as simple as a playoff. A draw to Bob’s Towing, however, would not be enough, as both Rhinos and RLFC would match their result, and the Knights would push themselves closer to the mid-table with a win over Coastal United. With only one match left, Binchensburg officially joined Myre Town in the relegation zone.

The final matchday started with seven kickoffs happening within a minute of each other in seven cities. In Myre, Myre Town hosted southern rivals Rhinos in a match that was about pride for them, but the outside shot of avoiding a playoff to stay up for Rhinos. In Tiberia, City also faced a team awaiting relegation, in match where a win would ensure that they also didn’t end up in a playoff. Out west, Coastal United faced Draig Goch in a match that the visitors needed - a win and an International loss could put Draig Goch into third. In the Capital, the LC Capitals faced Bekknia FC in a game that had virtually no relevance for anybody. In Plainsview, Bob’s Towing looked to finish strong, while the Knights hoped to ensure that they could not be sent down. On the Island, however, two games occurred that would decide much on both ends of the table: Comunas hosted International, while Rye’s Landing hosted the Titans. The right combination of results could see any of the four celebrating for their own reasons.

Myre quickly showed they were playing for more than pride, scoring in the tenth minute, followed by another goal in the first half-hour, for a 2-0 lead on Rhinos. Tiberian City had also held the same result at home at this time, keeping them safe. In Sagdineo, the score was blank, though Draig Goch’s attacking ferocity indicated that it wouldn’t stay that way for long. Nothing was going in in Legalese City, and nobody outside of the pitch seemed to care; similarly, the Knights and Towing were scoreless in Plainsview, but the result was looking irrelevant.

On the Island, two interesting developments had occurred. Comunas started out with a goal quickly, coming from Jake Detzler in the first five. By the half-hour mark, Detzler had scored again, working to close the goal difference, though he had a long way to go. This didn’t stop him, however, as by the half, he’d earned a penalty as well, giving the Cougars a 3-0 lead on International, a result that had the visiting fans watching the scoreline in Sagdineo in horror.

Alas, at the half, the scores came in from Rye’s Landing, where the Pennymen had scored twice, but conceded once. The Titans trailed 2-1, but still were comfortably in the title position, even if on Goal Difference.

In the final forty-five minutes, some fortunes changed, and others got stuck. Rhinos would score twice to salvage a draw with Myre Town, sending them to a playoff for retention. In Plainsview, the Knights found a way to score, sealing their place in the league next season. Tiberian City also put on the brakes, their 2-0 lead safe to the final whistle. In Sagdineo, the Red Dragons finally broke through in the second half, scoring twice on Coastal United, a result that looked to be giving them more to play for. In Legalese City, nothing literally happened, as the LC Capitals finished dismally with a scoreless draw to Bekknia FC.

Finally, on the Island, the scenes were interesting. Comunas saw the Cougars finish the rout, winning 4-0 on International, but saw both sides crestfallen - the Cougars on coming short of the title, and International falling to fourth, and pending the Fed Cup results, out of the National Championship. Meanwhile, Rye’s Landing, even though they conceded another goal to finish level, appeared grateful to have an acceptable result over the League Champions.

As for Tyrellia Titans, the celebration started early, the players crowding around the small section of visitors gathered at the visiting pitch. The game was over, and with a draw sealing the deal, the Titans took home the first Silver Shield, and the National League title.

Federation Open Cup 2
Retaining a similar format to the season before, the Federation Open Cup opened with a first round drawn by geography, splitting between teams on the mainland, and teams on the island. The draw, otherwise unseeded, pitted M-League sides with mainland amateur opposition, and K-League sides with island amateur clubs.

First Round Results
Mainland
Francis City 0–3 Plainsview Panthers
Yellowjacket FC 1–0 Jintley's United
Ellentown Exempts 3–0 Bears
Cranes 0–1 Stratton FC
Anteaters 2–3 Llamas
X Island Pretenders 0–2 AFC Mokfein
Calcyx Colonial 0–3 Kangley Cardinals
Argyle Warriors 2–0 Colville
Oker United 1–1 Morven Monday
Portland FC 0–1 Straitside FC

Island
Whitefox Whalers 1–1 Tyrellia Tigers
Minto Wombats 1–1 Brecorn City
West Tyrellia Auto 1–1 Sien Bay Pirates
Portsmouth United 1–0 Kassar Cove United
Norrisland United 4–1 Socks Pet Store
South Brecorn Luge Society 3–0 Camanche Jets
Cape Athletic 4–1 Wreath City
Paulie's Pizza 0–1 AFC Straitside

First Round Replay
Oker United 1–2 Morven Monday
Whitefox Whalers 4–1 Tyrellia Tigers
Minto Wombats 2–2 Brecorn City
West Tyrellia Auto 1–0 Sien Bay Pirates

Minto and Brecorn became the first sides in cup play to draw a replay match. As the rules had not anticipated it, it was determined that the teams would play a Re-Replay, with as many matches as needed to determine the winner.

First Round Re-Replay
Minto Wombats 1–1 Brecorn City

First Round Re-Re-Replay
Minto Wombats 1–0 Brecorn City

Finally, after four matches in total, Minto advanced over Brecorn on a 1-0 result, sending them to the national bracket and the second round.

The Second Round introduced the National League sides to the competition, while keeping the draw unseeded. The draw went as follows:

Second Round
Minto Wombats v Comunas Cougars
Llamas v The Knights of Tiberia
Yellowjacket FC v Myre Town
Whitefox Whalers v Straitside FC
Binchensburg Athletic v LC Capitals
Norrisland United v Tiberian City
Argyle Warriors v South Brecorn Luge Society
West Tyrellia Auto v Tyrellia Titans
Plainsview Panthers v RLFC
Bob's Towing v Rhinos
Portsmouth United v International
Coastal United v AFC Straitside
Cape Athletic v Kangley Cardinals
Draig Goch FC v Bekknia FC
Morven Monday v AFC Mokfein
Stratton FC v Ellentown Exempts

With three intraleague matches in the National League, it would be clear that not all of the top league sides would get more than one game in cup play.

Second Round Results
Minto Wombats 3–0 Comunas Cougars
Llamas 1–0 The Knights of Tiberia
Yellowjacket FC 0–3 Myre Town
Whitefox Whalers 1–3 Straitside FC
Binchensburg Athletic 2–1 LC Capitals
Norrisland United 1–1 Tiberian City
Argyle Warriors 1–0 South Brecorn Luge Society
West Tyrellia Auto 2–3 Tyrellia Titans
Plainsview Panthers 4–0 RLFC
Bob's Towing 2–0 Rhinos
Portsmouth United 0–2 International
Coastal United 4–1 AFC Straitside
Cape Athletic 2–0 Kangley Cardinals
Draig Goch FC 3–0 Bekknia FC
Morven Monday 1–0 AFC Mokfein
Stratton FC 2–2 Ellentown Exempts

Second Round Replay
Tiberian City 0–2 Norrisland United
Ellentown Exempts 1–1 Stratton FC

Second Round Re-Replay
Stratton FC 3–0 Ellentown Exempts

To the pleasure of some, the replays would end after this round, helpful as Stratton required three matches to dispose of Ellentown. The surprising results, however, would be the National League sides that did not make the Round of 16, none more surprising than The Knights of Tiberia falling to the Llamas, an amateur side from the Gavelton area. Bekknia, LC Capitals, and Rhinos were also eliminated, each by National League sides, as was RLFC, in a mildly surprising rout by Plainsview Panthers, the M-League side; considering the recent form of Plainsview, the result was not quite a shocker, though the margin was worth some thought.

The Round of 16:
International 3–0 Norrisland United
Tyrellia Titans 5–0 Argyle Warriors
Llamas 1–2 Bob's Towing
Cape Athletic 1–2 Straitside FC
Plainsview Panthers 2–2 Draig Goch FC (2–3 AET)
Coastal United 0–0 Binchensburg Athletic (1–1 AET) (3–4 pen.)
Myre Town 2–2 Minto Wombats (3–3 AET) (3–1 pen.)
Stratton FC 4–0 Morven Monday

At this point, the National League sides took over, with the only ones eliminated this round were those knocked off by their leaguemates. This ended the run of a number of sides, including the last amateur side, Llamas.

Quarterfinals
International 0–2 Tyrellia Titans
Bob's Towing 2–0 Straitside FC
Draig Goch FC 2–1 Binchensburg Athletic
Myre Town 1–2 Stratton FC

The Quarterfinals were a treat for Tyrellia watchers, as it gave them another Tyrellian Derby, this time at International Pitch. True to seeming form, the visiting side got the better of the hosts, a Titans win giving them a home date with Draig Goch FC. The only result that was somewhat surprising was Stratton’s 2-1 win over Myre Town, though one that seemed possible, owing to Myre Town’s poor run of play. From a financial standpoint, however, Stratton did benefit greatly from the result - their semifinal would be a home with Bob’s Towing, and sure to be a sell out.

Semifinals
Tyrellia Titans 1–2 Draig Goch FC
Stratton FC 2–4 Bob's Towing

With the battle for third still uncertain at this point, Draig Goch, at the very least, secured a chance to advance to the National Championship with a win in the Final, regardless of how the final matchday of the National League fared. Bob’s Towing, meanwhile, simply hoped for their one and only chance to defend their title, even if coming from behind. In National Stadium, the scene was set.

Final
Draig Goch FC 1–0 Bob's Towing

A goal by Theo Rothweiler was the only tally, coming in the 33rd minute, and gave the Red Dragons their first trophy of any type. Having already earned a place in the National Championship, the result also was good news for International of Tyrellia, who received the league spot vacated by Draig Goch.

Bronze Shield Winner: Plainsview Panthers
Playoff Participants: Stratton FC and Straitside FC

The second division sides remained divided by geography, with the K-League and M-League each resuming play. The K-League ended their experiment with the split season, going with a quadruple round-robin, in order to deal with being an eight-team league, while the M-League kept a double round-robin format, as done by its predecessors. The stakes for both were high - the league winners would snag the bronze shields, and not only qualify for the National Championship, but also promote to the National League next season.

With the absence of the star power provided by the Tyrellian clubs, the K-League made up for it by being extremely competitive. The top four sides traded matches with each other all season long, only succeeding in separating from the pack. In the end, Minto Wombats were able to take the lead late, and hold it, winning their first bronze shield, along with automatic promotion and a National Championship bid. Portsmouth United finished second, squeaking ahead of AFC Straitside, with both earning a playoff opportunity.

Meanwhile, the M-League played out much like the M-League West of the year before, with Plainsview Panthers assuming the spot of their city’s fellow side, Bob’s Towing. At fifty-two points, the Panthers had the highest league point total of any Legalese club this season, good enough to earn them the Bronze Shield. Stratton FC’s runner-up finish sent them to the playoffs with Straitside FC, both with a chance at promotion.

The stage was now set for the postseason, with only two things to decide: the winners of the playoff stage, and the National Champions.

The Playoff

With the Minto Wombats and the Plainsview Panthers replacing Binchensburg and Myre Town in the National League, all that was left was to determine the fates of the next two sides in the table, Rye’s Landing and Rhinos. The format determined would give them each one match at their home pitch, where all they would have to do is beat their chosen opponent from the second division. To set these matchups, the second and third-placed sides from the K-League and M-League were paired off in a two-leg “crossover” round, the winners advancing to the final round in one week. In keeping with the “crossover” idea, the K-League runners-up, Portsmouth United, started by travelling to Chateguay to take on Straitside FC, while M-League runners-up, Stratton FC, crossed the strait to take on AFC Straitside in Aqual. In either case, both teams would return to Comunas and Stratton, respectively, for the return legs:

AFC Straitside 0–2 Stratton FC
Stratton FC 2–0 AFC Straitside
Stratton wins 4-0 on aggregate. AFC Straitside remains in K-League.

Straitside FC 1–1 Portsmouth United
Portsmouth United 3–1 Straitside FC
Portsmouth United wins 4-2 on aggregatge. Straitside FC remains in the M-League.

In Aqual, Stratton had no problem dispatching the islanders, beating AFC Straitside 2-0 on the road, en route to an identical result at home, sending them to face the Rhinos in Gavelton. Meanwhile, Portsmouth’s trip to the mainland did not end as hoped, with an early tally by Chance Cloman putting the hosts from Straitside up. However, a persistent effort by Portsmouth finally paid off, with a corner by Cade Zorich finding the foot of Andre Seyller, sneaking it by Stratton’s keeper, Dyllan Knetsch. The trip back to Comunas fared well for the hosts, with a 3-0 win for Portsmouth, on the strength of goals by Zorich and Seyller. As the victors, Portsmouth earned a trip south, there they would face Rye’s Landing for a place in the National League to the victor.

Final Round
RLFC 3–0 Portsmouth United
Rhinos 2–1 Stratton FC

Rhinos and RLFC remain in National League. Portsmouth returns to K-League, and Stratton returns to the M-League.

Alas, the dream died for both of the second division sides, as both Rhinos and RLFC retained their places in the top tier with convincing victories. The Islandside action was over quickly, with all three goals scored before the halftime whistle. Similarly, Rhinos tallied both of their scores early, leading 2-0 at the half. A frantic effort in the second half prompted a more defensive approach from the Gavelton side, only to concede a goal in stoppage time to the second-tier visitors.

The playoffs, exciting as they were, served only as a sideshow to the main event, however

Legalese National Championship II

In keeping with the previous season’s decision to have the league winners, runners-up, and the cup winner all take a shot at the Champions’ Cup bid and earn the title of National Champion, the National Championship competition was retained to allow for the same opportunity at the end of the year. With the advent of the nationwide upper tier however, the format was tweaked somewhat. The first change was a trimming from eight sides to six, with only the winners of the K-League, M-League, and Fed Cup joining the top three National League finishers. This change also trimmed the number of double-chance spots from four to two, as the Silver Shield holder and the National League runner-up would face off in the First Semifinal, with the winner advancing to the Final, and the loser heading to the Second Semifinal. Their opponent would be determined through two elimination rounds amongst the other four sides, with all non-final matches a two-legged tie. With each elimination round and the second semifinal each taking a full week, the elimination round sides would need to play seven matches in four weeks to take home the title.

That said, the shorter schedule and double chance for the National League runner-up wasn’t all roses, either. The Comunas Cougars were also at a further disadvantage to National League-winning Tyrellia Titans, due to what was being called the Silver Shield Advantage. This advantage gave the Silver Shield holders, as the top tier league winners, a significant package of bonuses, including the right to host all of the matches they were drawn into, as well as determining the site of the final, regardless of the participants. Additionally, they had one other advantage for the semifinal round, which would carry over in the second semifinal if needed: If they were level on aggregate after both matches, extra time would proceed as usual. However, if after extra time, the two teams were still level on goals scored, rather than continuing to kicks from the mark, the shield holder would advance. In short, not only did the Cougars have to battle the Titans twice in the Coliseum, they needed to end the second match with at least an aggregate draw, and extra time with an aggregate win to advance.

Week One: the Championship kicked off with a Wednesday night doubleheader in the first elimination round, featuring K-League champion Minto Wombats, hosting fellow Island club and qualifier through the National League, International of Tyrellia. A surprising sending off of Damhan put International down to ten men in the second half, but didn’t damper the spirts of International, riding an early goal by Cormac Shanksy to victory on the road.

The second match featured M-League winners Plainsview Panthers, hosting the Fed Cup champs, Draig Goch FC - a rematch of their Federation Cup tie, won by DGFC in extra time. Amusingly, the same site produced the same result after ninety minutes, with a 2-2 draw sending the teams ot Numalia level.

Four days later, the return legs featured on the Sunday match menu. In Tyrellia, International played as if they didn’t miss their captain, holding off the Wombats 1-0 to take a 2-0 aggregate win and advance. In Numalia, a 2-2 aggregate total turned into a 3-2 lead for the favored hosts, only to see Panthers striker Jacob Olsten pull the M-League side level in the eightieth minute. The final whistle would blow with the score still tied - 1-1 for the match, 3-3 for the aggregate - necessitating extra time. The Panthers, riding a wave of momentum from Olsten’s strike, capitalized on a goal that could charitably described as garbage - the corner setting it up bounced back and forth through the goal area before finally caroming off of Olsten’s foot for goal #2 for him - but crucial, as it was the lone score in extra time. The final score was 2-1, 4-3 aggregate, and sent the Plainsview Panthers into a trip home to face International on Wednesday.

First Elimination Round
Plainsview Panthers 2–2 Draig Goch
Draig Goch 1–1 Plainsview Panthers (1–2 AET)
Plainsview Panthers wins 4-3 on aggregate AET. Draig Goch eliminated

Minto Wombats 0–1 International
International 1–0 Minto Wombats
International wins 2-0 on aggregate. Minto Wombats eliminated.

The night finished with the first of two in Tyrellia, as the First Semifinal kicked off at The Coliseum. This was the second meeting in just a few weeks for the two sides, Titans having virtually clinched the shield with a scoreless draw. In a battle of possession, the game saw few chances, heading into the locker room at the half as it started. The lack of separation between the two continued, with a Cougars goal in the 52nd minute answered in the 57th. The end result was unsatisfying all around, an ugly 1-1 draw, one that set the stage for the second leg, a must-win road game for Comunas.

Week Two: the Championship continued on Wednesday night with the start of the Second Elimination Round, where the Plainsview Panthers had to turn around from their extra time win over Draig Goch just four days before, and host International, coming in off of their aggregate win over Minto four days before, and their third match in eight days - a the latter a similar situation for the hosts. With this sort of fixture congestion - especially with each match being crucial - the team with more depth and talent is likely to pull through. Naturally, that is precisely what happened here: International got off to a strong start, scoring early and often, enroute to a 3-1 win that was frightening for the Panthers, for one simple reason: for the first time this year, they faced an opponent where they were clearly outmatched.

Before the return leg on Sunday, the First Semifinal’s climatic finish was slated for Saturday night, and it turned out to be a thriller. Returning to The Coliseum, where the opening leg finished 1-1, the Comunas Cougars needed a W, and did something they had done sparsely on the Titans: score. In three prior matches this year, the Cougars had scored a total of three times on the Tyrellia Titans. In the course of ninety minutes, they matched that total, scoring early, scoring to end the half with a 2-1 lead, and scoring one last time in the 63rd minute to put them up 3-2.

Unfortunately for them, the Titans weren’t done. 78 minutes in, they were awarded a free kick from 24 yards out. Cougars keeper Aiden Trube called for a five-man wall, setting up just off the middle of the goal with the area to his right covered. It was a decent setup, and one that should cover most, if not all, different types of free kick attempts on goal.

And yet, Trube still saw the ball go by him, the result of a hard, spinning attempt by Quintus Oxboro. It cleared the wall-barely- and spun away from the keeper, dropping down and into the side netting. The Titans were level, and would reach the end of regulation in a position to advance. The Cougars would strike back, scoring to lead 4-3 at the halfway mark of extra time, only for Oxboro to score again to bring the teams level. After 210 minutes, the aggregate result was 5-5, sending the Titans through on their Silver Advantage.

First Semifinal
Tyrellia Titans 1–1 Comunas Cougars
Tyrellia Titans 3–3 Comunas Cougars (4–4 AET)
Titans advance to the Final on 5-5 aggregate draw. Cougars continue to the second semifinal.

As Sunday dawned, the Second Elimination Round match was largely anticlimatic, as International tallied another three goals at home, where they would remain to face the Cougars in the opener of the second semifinal, as Plainsview would head home.

Second Elimination Round
Plainsview Panthers 1–3 International
International 3–0 Plainsview Panthers
International wins 6-1 on aggregate. Plainsview Panthers eliminated.

Week Three: With the Titans booked for the final in their home site, all that was left was to determine who would be joining them. The one certainty was that it would be an all-island final, with the only thing to determine was if it would be a Tyrellian Derby, or the fourth Cougars-Titans game in The Coliseum in six weeks. If anything, the presence of the three Karin Island-based clubs at the top, with Rye’s Landing hanging on to a spot in the National League and the Minto Wombats en route to promote, was a sign that the Islanders, in spite of having a smaller population, were holding their own nationally. It was only a matter of time before the National Team roster might reflect this, as the NT went down in the group stage of the World Cup yet again.

On the pitch, possession football ruled. International held on to an early goal at home, denying the Cougars on all following chances, to take a 1-0 lead into the weekend. On that return leg in Comunas, neither side could find the net with a map and a flashlight, ending International on for the Tyrellian Derby, with the biggest prize ever on the line.

Second Semifinal
International 1–0 Comunas Cougars
Comunas Cougars 0–0 International
International wins 1-0 on aggregate, and advance to the Final

The Final

Of course it had to come down to the rivalry of rivalries. Titans and International, normally fighting for Tyrellian supremacy and implied Island supremacy, now battling for National Supremacy - for a season, anyways.

And epic the match was. A sold out crowd at The Coliseum in downtown Tyrellia witnessed a ping-ponging of goals, first from International in the 12th minute, then Titans in the 35th. In the second half, International scored again on a Damhan header with thirty minutes to go, only to have Titans pull one back in the 73rd on an Oxboro goal, his fourth in the Championship. With the sides level, and extra time doing no favors, the championship came down to penalties, where two International misses in the first three doomed them to second, as the Titans struck four in a row to take home the Golden Shield.

Final
Tyrellia Titans 2–2 International of Tyrellia (2–2 AET) (4–2 pen.)

Season 20,053

After complaints from the Star League over fixture congestion, the Vanorian league has once again gone under a reformation, though with no new clubs or new lands and cities to incorporate this time. Instead the pyramid has been changed to the four top leagues having twenty-two participants and the bottom two just twenty. With no club subject to more than fifty games a season even in a full Silver Cup run, the fixture log has become more balanced and fair. A handful of clubs were undoubtedly affected, put back into a league they had been promoted from or not relegated, but such clubs were compensated with a sufficient amount of silver coins relative to their position in the pyramid and how effected they were by the move as deemed by the VFA.

As for the actual football itself, coming off the major disappointment of an early exit from the World Cup, the players returning to their clubs were eager to prove their places and talents. It made for one entirely exciting and exceptional season indeed, one of the best that we've seen in quite some time. With five matches to go, four clubs were all in the hunt for the Premiership crown, with the usual like of RCU and Hondo. Yet Club ESF and Ibini were there as well, leading the pack at one and two respectively. Ibini however was going to be the strongest of the quartet, winning the title on the penultimate matchday as RCU fell to Rolalas in the Battleground, making their last matchday encounter meaningless. The four to one victory for the capitalmen in Ibini was little consolation as the Islanders were crowned league champions for the first time ever, though the goal difference allowed them to supplant Club ESF for second and a spot in the Champions Cup.

RCU though can take a small amount of pleasure from the fact they were able to take home some silverware this season, making it to a second straight Silver Cup final. Unlike last time where a strong club awaited them, a surprise package in FC Therathor were there foes in Capri. It was an entirely one sided affair that was over at the half and the Rockers coasted in the second half to their trophy, a small solace and comfort after the failure to retain the league. Another talking point is the seven point gap between surprise package AC Valanari, who showed their academy products are full of vigor as ever, in fifth and Soldarian in sixth, leaving the once international giants wanting once more. The other side of the capital must surely think themselves cursed for how many times they have been in a race to make a international spot, only to see them miss out due to poor form or the VFA giving the Cup champion or runner up the spot.

Speaking of cursed clubs, Gladerial United looks to have arisen from their grave of the lower leagues as they managed to force themselves into a playoff spot. Once there, the once mighty club made short work of their new boy opponents, utterly dominating the two legs to secure their passage once more to the top tier. Yet they have risen up to the Premiership before since their poor run of luck has come and never been able to do anything with it, soon falling back into the lower leagues once more. Will the White Fortress be able to attract the sort of talent domestically or even from foreigners to keep themselves afloat or even get back into contention?

At the other side of the table, there was some major disappointments, as SC Rinaldi, which has multiple Premiership titles to its name, was not able to survive the season and will spend at least one season in the Star League. Fan favorites Wexax United and Samarga United both were unable to survive the intensity of the top flight as well, getting the drop much to the chagrin of their large and passionate fan bases. No doubt that these three clubs will be those expected to win the promotion in the Star League next season, although it has been said that the second tier is even more competitive than the top tier. They will not find life down there in the second tier an easy thing at all and while they should expect to promote, they should not take it for granted.

Looking into the crystal ball and making some predictions for the Vanorian contingent in the international competitions. It is suffice to say that any competition that RCU is in, they are favorites to win, though now having to qualify for the Champions Cup group stage instead of being straight into it, there is a small amount of caution they should take. All clubs will be fighting tooth and nail to get into that group stage and prove their worth and reap the fine monetary rewards that the UICA provides for reaching that stage of the competition. Yet the calibre of players that United has should be enough to see them through, should the draw not turn unkind. Ibini will look to turn their two straight seasons of domestic success into international splendor, yet even with Fresco leading their attack, I don't think they have it in them to advance into the knockout rounds, though falling into the Globe Cup is a more realistic goal the Islanders can hope for.

Club ESF and Hondo FC both have the players and the experience here in the Globe Cup that they ought be favored in their qualifying ties up until the group stage. They should be cautious when playing away though, as that is where Vanorian dominance has been quite short as of late, as the failings in the last few UICA cycles have shown. That said, I could see either one of them making it to the group stage and beyond, with myself fancying Hondo to even have a go at the title. Should the UICA so graciously award The Battleground the Final site, then that home support would be a tipping point over any other side they could potentially face there. As for Valanari, they should be content in qualifying and any results they get gravy and another tool in their belt for recruiting the best of the nation's youth to their Academy.

Globe Cup 48: The Battleground (78,000), Raynor City - In the middle of the sprawling capital of Valanora, The Battleground is one of the oldest stadiums in the country. It underwent a major renovation nearly sixty years ago to become the premier and largest stadium in all of Valanora. Rail from all over the capital have stops outside the stadium making it easily accessible to all citizens and visitors to Valanora's capital. It has hosted several domestic and international Finals and is used to the commotion that large scale matches create and can accommodate all with proper security and seating. While not as new as Artani, the renovations made to the stadium have made it the premier stadium of Valanora.

Pasarga's Contenders

CA Paulinthal
ImageImage
It seems quite fitting that a port city that rose up on the back of immigrants should be home to a club that rose from nothing to be the most feared and respected club in all of Pasarga and for awhile, all of Rushmore. CAP was a nothing club full of part time players that became the symbol of Pasargan spirit, of the hope that all sportsmen in the nation that they to could reach their dreams. Unlike their cross city rivals in Santos Luega, CAP has embraced the diversity of Paulinthal and taken any and all who call the city home, even looking beyond Pasarga's borders at times for their players.

CAP is looking to retain the Liga crown after having captured it from the claws of our Sargossan partners last season. CAP is known for its attacking flavor, though it is sure enough defensively that its defenders are routinely called up for the national team. With national teamers Bláhová, Mijatovic, Valgeirsdóttir, and Möller leading the side, they have the experience and skill to keep CAP's enemies fuming. It would be hard to see how a team with the sort of support and skill like CAP has doing anything other than winning the title, but complacency has been known to strike the side from time to time. It is that caution that is the only thing keeping me from crowning CAP right now, though they should be their at the end of the season vying for the crown all the time.

Tanrisal
ImageImage
Tani, as the locals call them, are side that is ever present and always a thorn in the side of anyone who wishes to win the title, be it the Liga or the former Pasargan Super League. However for all their might, Tani has a remarkably small trophy case, seemingly ever the bridesmaid and never the bride as it were. Their success then can be something of a mystery, as they don't have the best of youth teams nor have a bankroll to bring the best Pasarga and Rushmore has to offer to their side. Yet all the same, they find ways to win and be among those who Pasarga sends to the international competitions. May it be luck or skill or just a combination of that and some amazing managers, Tani has a way of determining the title one way or another.

What Tani does have though is a back line that is a rival to none in the Liga, with a pair of Pasargan national teamers who look to set another record of clean sheets this upcoming season. However, it is an aging back line and if ever there was a season that Tani may start to become susceptible, it would be now, when CAP, Turkish, and Stein-los have young and promising attackers to bring to the front. If they can maintain the same form they have had the last few seasons, expect to see Tani lurking in the UICA once more, though if that pressure proves to much, they could be in store for a free fall.

Santos Luega
ImageImage
The second fiddle of Paulinthal and a club with a very controversial history and practice. There is no denying that Santos has been an extraordinary power in Pasargan football for quite some time and yet for all that, there is still a taint about them for only accepting players of Spanish or Hispanic heritage. It has served them well enough, to keep them forever in the mind of them against the world mentality that has seemed to drive them forward and build a close knit community in Paulinthal's inner city. Yet it is this practice that prevents greater players from being able to join Santos and even sets about hampering their own designs at being a consistent power, should there ever be a generation lacking in those that meet their desired genealogy.

For now, Santos look to be on the edge of knife as some of their older players have retired and they welcome in a new batch of players to the fold. They could either reach for the stars and present a new challenge for CAP and Turkish, or falter and return back to mediocrity until a new wave come in. The young winger Onésimo Alicea will look to be the piece of the puzzle that looks to keep Santos going in the right direction and prove their selection with the natural team was indeed warranted. However it will be the captain and national team defender Cardoso that will be the cog that keeps the engine going. With several years of experience under their belt already, the sturdy left back is truly a supreme leader worthy of leading even the like of Santos rag tag current crew to glory.

Stein-los Turkish
ImageImage
One of the three big clubs in Stein-los, Turkish is perhaps the most historical of the sides, having taken its name from the former giants of C&M football in Albrecht. Sure the officials of the club will claim it is because of a large amount of people within Stein-los with Turkish ancestry, but the coincidence that they arose during Albrecht Turkish' heyday is too high to even consider it a true one. That said, they command a large support within the city, besting their rivals in that regard, even if they lack the same amount of titles of Club Stein-los or the other great powers of Pasargan domestic football.

All that said, this seems to be an upswing for the historic club, with three players called up to the Wanderers right now serving as a solid spine for the squad. They have a very potent attack but it is their defensive that will be the big ask of the club. If the midfield play can step it up this season and they travel better to Sargossa, then Turkish look to be a side who could creep up on you and snatch the title. However, they just seem to be lacking the belief in themselves that they are quite capable of that feat and as such, it is far more likely that they will find themselves in the top ten but not as a champion.

Club Stein-los
ImageImage
While not as beloved nor as "historic" as Turkish, Club Stein-los has enjoyed the most success of any of the Stein-los based clubs, once being the flag bearer of Pasargan football with a vaunted three peat as the Super League champions. Those seasons are long since past however and CAP has turned into the beast that Stein-los thought that it was, usurping the mantle of the Pasargan flag bearer. They still have quite the full trophy case to be proud of, but it may be that their time as a mighty power within the domestic scene is waning, as the likes of Turkish, CAP, and the capital clubs have risen to prominence while their own has been squandered.

A single centerback who never sees the field is what Stein-los has to offer the national team as if further proof of their waning power. Once they had the success and money to attract anyone that they desired to their doorstep, now they have to try and develop players. It's been a transition that has seen them falter at the stretch time and time again, as their youth prove inadequate to the task. There is no reason that anyone can see to suggest that this season is to be any different from the last several and that the fall from grace for Stein-los will come to an end soon. Football is a funny old game though and anything can happen on any given matchday, so who knows. Their youth and youth coaches may have learned from this failures and be ready to strike out anew and better than they were before.

Baskita FC
ImageImage
Last but certainly not least is the lone capital club on this list with Baskita looking to prove their mettle once more. They have the least amount of support, the least amount of money, and wholly inadequate training grounds and youth systems of any of the clubs mentioned in this list or in the capital. What they do have is the magnificent Erôss Ivett, the starting striker for the national side and a woman who has made enemies quiver in their boots in the Liga. Yet she is an aging striker, whose legs are beginning to leave her, and it may be that her time leading the side is coming to an end.

Yet for everything that goes against them being here or even being a challenger in the first place, they are. For Baskita has shown in the past that they are remarkable at snatching amazing players at bargain prices and then winning a surprise championship or two. It is not a strategy that many can employ to any sort of success, and yet they have time and time again. That success has taken them to places they have never thought they could, including the UICA competitions and the vast rewards associated with it, making those deals even more possible. After another trip there last season with a fourth place finish in the Liga, they look to do more of the same, and continue this mystifying amount of excellence that not even the most risky of gambler could have thought of.

ClayComms Premier League
Season 28 - League Review

It's time for another season of the ClayComms Premier League, which has still managed to go ahead without trouble, even with the rumours surrounding the sponsor and it's business practices. Even with the massive efflux of good Syndicatian players to other leagues in naitons such as Astograth and The Licentian Isles, the year has seen some good football from prominent future names.
Burgess FC topped the league once again, after a hard fought season that didn't see them do quite as well as last time. The absense of Jacob Pratt certainly made a difference, as there were many occasions in which Burgess found themselves slipping down the tables. Their new young Astograthi midfielder Artzeiz Kuartango probably had something to say about it, proving to be a key player that secured their victory on the final few matchdays by just a single point. They might not be so lucky next season, and might find their top spot endagered by...

Nostromo Meteorites, hot on the tails of Burgess, had an astonishing season due to their solid attacking line and unique style. Farf transfer Vrotaoa Wii-Tzaara was invaluable to the team, as the Farf style of defence he bought to the team impressed Nostromo Manager Jeffrey Parker, and he integrated it into the team's style of play. Nostromo didn't quite have the goal scoring record this time, but have high hopes for the Globe Cup where they can hopefully put some goals past the opposition.

Westonbirt City and Pinehearth City knocked Dysenside Duellers out of a place in the Globe Cup, with the latter beating Dysenside in the head to head results by two goals. Pinhearth already had a rivalry with the team just to the north of them, and this hasn't helped patch things up between the teams. Look for a Pinehearth on the Warparth to prove to the general public that they deserved that place in the Globe Cup. Westonbirt, even with their major problems due to Ahlenfi Occupation (during which the team played their homegames in Nostromo) managed to play a great season for those in need of a pick me up, and ended up finishing third, beating some of the major teams like Burgess while they were away.

In Division 2, Beaconsby Flames burned out the opposition to take the top spot, taking a huge lead over Lesko Pavillion, the plucky team formed from the refugee town of Lesko two years ago. The team has improved leaps and bounds, with many prominent Syndicatian players signing onto the club and donating cuts of their wages to charity. It seems they'll be playing in Division 1 next season, along with the Flames, and both teams might be able to cause a stir in the division after their fantastic performance this season.

Following behind the top two in Division 2 comes Cardertower and FC Baudelaire, two teams that were tipped to be the hot favourites of the season but didn't quite hit the top spot. They'll be going to the Series B Champions Cup anyway, and hopefully they'll have a decent run.

All in all, Season 28 has been an average season that contained a few upsets, but mainly stuck to the status quo. However, with clubs reacting to changes in lineups and in management, the landscape of Syndicatian football might not stay this way for long...

The Inevitable Syndicate (TIS) Stadium Bids

Champions' Cup: Flynn Arena, Fligsive (96,500 seat capacity)
The Syndicate's best stadium by far, the iconic Flynn Arena was the site for the 66th World Cup Final, in which Eura beat Polar Islandstates in an extra time battle that was watched by millions across the multiverse. It makes perfect sense for the IFA to place a bid for the latest Champions Cup Final, then. A stadium that is now seeped in history, the Flynn Arena boasts state of the art video-screen technology and is also located within a bustling city that just can't get enough of the beautiful game. Even if the only reason they fancy it is because drinks are half-price when the game's on.

Globe Cup: Sunrise Park (52,000 seat capacity)
Sunrise Park hosted the 46th Globe Cup, and now it's back to try and host another. This is another stadium that Eura will find close to their heart, with it being the stage for Ulsa's 3-1 victory over Qidade Savanain that very same Globe Cup. The park received a minor tweak before the World Cup, with added scoreboards and a small extandable rain shelter for emergencies, but still has the brilliant views you know and love. Constructed by BNW Varin of the Kytler Peninsulae, the stadium has seats on all sides except the East, which is exposed to the brilliant expanse of the sea. Incorporating water and land, this border pitch is the perfect spot for another Globe Cup final.

Series B Champions' Cup: The Bird Cage (57,300 seat capacity)
Not to be one-upped by rivals Fligsive, Magnaeus have once again decided to put forward a bid for the equally Series B Champions Cup, as they might actually end up there next season. The Birdcage, situated on one of higher points of the city of Magnaeus, is where the team plays all of it's prominent games. The stadium's uniform look may not be the most pleasing to the eye, but the pure brilliant white of the stadium complete with it's fine lattice of metal poles around the outside make this stadium one of the most intimidating in the world. Intimidation that Magnaeus City often impose on their foes, but this time, it could be the next SBCC champion... This stadium was also used extensively in World Cup 66, being the Syndicate's secondary stadium due to it's central location and close access to transport links.
