Forging the Sword Part VIII will be up tomorrow.
Honestly, the part that takes the longest is finding a decent song title. The rest just sorta flows naturally.
And of course, I can't use multiple song names from the same band, as that's offensive to my bizarrely selective OCD.

If I am not mistaken, the Japanese were inspired by the raid on Taranto when they figured out how to strike at the U.S Fleet at Pearl Harbor..

Did they get half of their gunners and observers shot too? :p

Fortunately they don't have to shoot at anything important. Can you imagine trying to win a war with a bunch of guys who shoot like stormtroopers?

To be fair, the Japanese had better protected planes to work with. Kinda.

At least our observers could hit the broad side of a barn from 20 feet with automatic weapons. Probably.

Also, couldn't help but thinking of this.

So me and a region mate(who's new to NS) where discussing on a II RP, he asked me if I'm in RPs currently, He meant II rps, I said Excalibur Squadron...He thought Excalibur Squadron was a nation that I was at war with. So after that slip up I said we should call the nation I'm at war with Fran(which is from a book of mine), Guess what's he's calling the war....the Excalibur Squardron war .

Or better train future British Foreign Minister Anthony Eden to be a bit of a better shot when he was in the trenches in WW1, as it's pretty likely he and Hitler were almost directly across from each other at one point.
Although simply "preventing Baby Hitler from becoming full-blown" Hitler is a bit easier.
That's gonna be a helluva short operation.

If you're going to say that, then I'd rather give an unknown British sergeant a rather less developed sense of honour. This may also be a myth, I don't know if it's true or not.

I can't remember where it was, but this fellow with his twirling bayonet jumped into a foxhole. He found a German lying face down, but alive. He didn't want to bayonet a helpless man in the back so he left him. That German turned out to be Adolf Hitler.

I present to you, "This is Not a Drill.."

"This is not a drill, I repeat this is not a drill, Pearl Harbor has been attacked…" Came the blaring voice through the loud speakers at Hali-ewa Airbase, Pat fairly had to close his hears off, as the voice was that deafening. Then he heard a loud series of explosions outside, and donned his flight gear and as quick as a rabbit was out of the door, on the way to his P-40. This is how he found out that the Japanese had arrive. He saw smoke arising from Pearl and groaned. "They've already gotten the damn fleet. Let's hope they haven't gotten the fuel tanks or the subs, else we're going to have a long war." He groaned, as he hopped into the P-40 and quickly got it started.

With apprehension he noticed Japanese Zeros beginning their strafing runs as he taxi-ed to the runway, hitting one of his fellow squadron members in their aircraft, killing them instantly. Pat saw red and as soon as he was able, he quickly assumed take off power and sped down the runway, feeling vibrations of bullets flying all-around. He saw two of his fellow squadron members had taken to the air before him and as he pulled up, he noticed all the others were out of commission and the pilots were scrambling to avoid being strafed.

He immediately turned onto the back of a Zero and without any forethought, his finger pulled the trigger, letting the .50 cal gun's rain bullets on the tail of the unfortunate enemy pilot, shredding it and causing it to go into a downward spiral. With that enemy disposed, of, he turned his P-40 towards Peal, where he caught the second wave of Japanese headed towards the harbor.

Right over Ford Island, he began his attack on a flight of torpedo bombers, mercilessly shooting at the gunners in the back and shredding tails and wings. He managed to down a Kate torpedo plane and a val, before noticing something surface in the harbor that looked a lot like a Jap sub. He dived just as it fired it's torpedo at the Oklahoma, causing it to capsize (the Oklahoma." Not before it descended however, did it escape the wrath of Pat's P-40, as he fired at the conning tower before it submerged, hopefully for good.

He then ascended into the fray once again, as he took his last remaining ammo shots at a Zero that was chasing the two other P-40s, downing the Zero, for a total of four kills of aircraft and a probably submarine kill. By the time he was out of ammo, the Japanese had retreated and he had a chance to survey the devastation that they had caused. The battleships, especially the Arizona looked the worse for wear, however the Japanese had failed to attack the fuel supply or the repair docks, causing Pat to shake his head. "They truly were dumber than I thought. They had the chance to put us out of the war for a long time, but they didn't take it." Pat said as he turned around to land at Ford Island, having run low on fuel.

As he landed he saw that the two other pilots had landed in front of him, and he came to a stop beside their two P-40s. He cut the engine and slid the canopy back and hopped out with great agility. "That was some fur ball Pat!" Mike called out, the taller and leaner of the two. Pat laughed "Yeah, that was. Who thought we'd fight the red meatballs on a Sunday. Those SOB's will learn not to mess with us." He said this last, vowing to avenge the friends he had that were lost on this day and that the Japanese would not know what hit them..
