Yesopalitha Hockey League Season 4

Postby Yesopalitha » Mon Jul 30, 2012 9:11 pm

The Xavier Hammerheads defeated the Lenox Mean Green in dominating fashion to the last Karson Cup. Will they be able to keep up the intensity? Or will they fold under the pressure of keeping up the hard work? Let us take a look...

After the regular season, the standings stood thus, with all teams finishing at .500 or above making it to the playoffs:
Yesopalitha Hockey League Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Freedom's Altar Holy Templars 84 37 26 21 118 93 +25 137 Playoffs, CHL
2 Lenox Mean Green 84 34 26 24 121 100 +21 128 Playoffs
3 South Hampton Lions 84 33 28 23 128 97 +31 127 Playoffs
4 Worthington Cougars 84 33 28 23 118 103 +15 127 Playoffs
5 Wolvesbane Dragoons 84 35 17 32 112 109 +3 122 Playoffs, CHL
6 Etoile Stars 84 34 19 31 128 123 +5 121 Playoffs, CHL
7 Xavier Hammerheads 84 31 23 30 110 106 +4 116 Playoffs, CHL

8 Yeharu Penguins 84 29 25 30 114 117 −3 112
9 Hansbrough Turtles 84 28 26 30 110 114 −4 110
10 Kingston Lynx 84 29 23 32 102 114 −12 110
11 Irkan City Swarm 84 27 28 29 115 132 −17 109
12 Raxton Beavers 84 26 28 30 110 120 −10 106
13 North Hampton Grizzlies 84 27 23 34 110 122 −12 104
14 Tarahal Lake Glaciers 84 23 27 34 104 121 −17 96
15 New Denal-Ithorn Warriors 84 21 19 44 91 120 −29 82
In a shocking turn of events, the defending champions, Xavier Hammerheads, needed a win on the final day against the Tarahal Lake Glaciers to make the cut. The North Hampton Grizzlies, on the other hand, fell far, as Jack Ingall, their star player, went down with a chest injury midway through the season, plunging the Grizzlies to thirteenth place. Returning to the playoffs are the Etoile Stars, while the rest of the playoff field look identical to the previous season. The Yeharu Penguins had a chance to make it to the playoffs but lost it on the final day due to a goal by the Lynx late in the third period. With only seven teams making it to the playoffs, the Holy Templars will receive a bye to the Semifinals, and automatically clinch a CHL berth.
Karson Cup Playoffs

Quarterfinals

4 Worthington Cougars vs. 5 Wolvesbane Dragoons
Worthington Cougars 0–3 Wolvesbane Dragoons
Worthington Cougars 1–1 Wolvesbane Dragoons (2–1 OT)
Wolvesbane Dragoons 3–0 Worthington Cougars
Wolvesbane Dragoons 2–3 Worthington Cougars
Worthington Cougars 1–3 Wolvesbane Dragoons
Wolvesbane Dragoons 1–4 Worthington Cougars
Worthington Cougars 0–1 Wolvesbane Dragoons 5 Wolvesbane Dragoons win series 4-3.

In what was an unbelievably tight series, the Dragoons were able to pull off the upset by winning Game 7 away at Worthington. It is the second straight season that Worthington has been eliminated just at the brink of reaching the Champions' Hockey League. Wolvesbane went off on a great start behind a hat trick from Captain Mario Timo in Game 1, but all resemblance of an easy series vanished in Game 2 when the Cougars wrestled the game back with an OT goal by LW Emma Levangie. The series headed then to Wolvesbane, where the teams split once again, with the Dragoons dominating Game 3 and the Cougars managing to just win in Game 4 behind Levangie and her wing-mate, Eifler. The teams then traded road wins to set up a winner-take all match at Worthington. Both Nathan Demoranvill of Worthington and Rasmus Lucjusz of Wolvesbane were brilliant in front of the goal, but halfway through the third period, Stella Brint scored on a power play to send the Dragoons to the Champions' League and a Semifinal series against the Holy Templars.

2 Lenox Mean Green vs. 7 Xavier Hammerheads
Lenox Mean Green 3–1 Xavier Hammerheads
Lenox Mean Green 0–2 Xavier Hammerheads
Xavier Hammerheads 1–3 Lenox Mean Green
Xavier Hammerheads 3–2 Lenox Mean Green
Lenox Mean Green 2–0 Xavier Hammerheads
Xavier Hammerheads 3–1 Lenox Mean Green
Lenox Mean Green 0–1 Xavier Hammerheads 7 Xavier Hammerheads win series 4-3.

The rematch of the third Karson Cup occurred early in the quarterfinal round due to the Hammerheads' struggle during the regular season. However, the hype of this series did follow through. The Mean Green relied on Qips and McMichael to win Game 1, and then suffered a Game 2 loss due to Adrian Markov's superior goalkeeping. At Xavier, the Mean Green again relied on Qips and McMichael, their bread and butter, for a Game 3 win, before the Hammerheads responded on the offensive side by scoring three goals in Game 4, led by two goals and an assist from Victor Henson. With the series knotted up, G Taren McMichael won Game 5 by stopping all thirty-one shots on goal, and then the Hammerheads forced a final game by scoring three goals in the second period in Game 6. In a sold-out Mean Green Arena, Game 7 was taken coolly by the defending Karson Cup Champions, the Hammerheads, thanks to a blitzing goal in the third minute of the game by Nevin Barston, and then the Cohen twins helping Markov hold the line for the rest of the match. This, according to many fans, was as good as any Karson Cup series, and the general consensus at this point was that the Hammerheads were back and hungry for more.

3 South Hampton Lions vs. 6 Etoile Stars
South Hampton Lions 0–1 Etoile Stars
South Hampton Lions 0–2 Etoile Stars
Etoile Stars 1–0 South Hampton Lions
Etoile Stars 1–1 South Hampton Lions (2–1 OT) 6 Etoile Stars win series 4-0.

The star of this series, hands down, was Etoile's G, Barclay Dorau. After conceding one hundred and twenty-three goals during the regular season while making all eighty-four starts, Dorau really came to his own during this series, holding South Hampton's potent attack, one that had tied with the Stars' own offense for the most goals in the YHL, to just one goal throughout the entire series. For the Stars' own offense, RW Michelle St. George and Captain LW Ben Edvardsen were spot-on, with C Andy Johannesson assisting on many goals. Although the Stars will have to face the defending Champions Hammerheads in the next round, there is much hope for optimism with the way that Dorau has come to his own and the fact that Etoile doesn't have much trouble scoring goals in key moments.
Semifinals

1 Freedom's Altar Holy Templars vs. 5 Wolvesbane Dragoons
Freedom's Altar Holy Templars 1–2 Wolvesbane Dragoons
Freedom's Altar Holy Templars 0–4 Wolvesbane Dragoons
Wolvesbane Dragoons 1–2 Freedom's Altar Holy Templars
Wolvesbane Dragoons 2–2 Freedom's Altar Holy Templars (3–2 OT)
Freedom's Altar Holy Templars 0–1 Wolvesbane Dragoons 5 Wolvesbane Dragoons win series 4-1.

The Holy Templars had finished first during the regular season due to the goalkeeping of the National Team Player Sergei Dorov and the shooting ability of LW Yarik Moval. However, they really ran into a roadblock in the Wolvesbane Dragoons in this Semifinal series. C Mario Timo and RW Stella Brint manhandled the defensive duo of LD Claire Cardon and RD Dina Dalin in Game 1 for the game-winning goal. Then, in Game 2, Dorov was knocked out in the first period when he twisted his knee. The Dragoons took full advantage of the situation, scoring four goals in a rout. The Templars did manage to steal Game 3 away from the Dragoons on a Moval goal in the third period, but the loss of Dorov was too much to bear. When the Dragoons took a very tight Game 4 due to a Brint goal in overtime, the series was pretty much over; the 1-0 win in Game 5 that sealed the deal wasn't as close as the score told the tale, as the Templars didn't even have over fifteen shots on goal, and Lucjusz stopped them all with the help of his defense. Hence, the Dragoons made it to the Karson Cup Finals, one step away from glory.

6 Etoile Stars vs. 7 Xavier Hammerheads
Etoile Stars 0–4 Xavier Hammerheads
Etoile Stars 2–3 Xavier Hammerheads
Xavier Hammerheads 2–1 Etoile Stars
Xavier Hammerheads 4–1 Etoile Stars 7 Xavier Hammerheads win series 4-0.

In a similar story to Sergei Dorov, Barclay Dorou was also injured midway through Game 1 when his own teammate, Anni Gascon, crashed into him, severely spraining his ankle. The loss of their coming star really hurt the Stars as they were swept by the Hammerheads, who really started to play to their potential. Games 2 and 3 were close, but the wealth of experience that the Hammerheads had with the Cohen twins and Nevin Barston was the deciding factor. To make matters worse for the Stars, RW Ralph Emerson became yet another playoff weapon for the Hammerheads, scoring in all four games, and often, multiple times. Thus, the Hammerheads went from being so close to not making it to the playoffs to being four wins away from a three-peat that would signal the continuance of their dominance over this league.
Karson Cup IV

5 Wolvesbane Dragoons vs. 7 Xavier Hammerheads
Wolvesbane Dragoons 1–5 Xavier Hammerheads
Wolvesbane Dragoons 1–3 Xavier Hammerheads
Xavier Hammerheads 1–1 Wolvesbane Dragoons (2–1 OT)
Xavier Hammerheads 1–2 Wolvesbane Dragoons
Wolvesbane Dragoons 3–1 Xavier Hammerheads
Xavier Hammerheads 1–0 Wolvesbane Dragoons 7 Xavier Hammerheads win series 4-2.

Many fans had stated that this was Wolvesbane's year to win; they had all the momentum in the world after taking down the Holy Templars. However, such thoughts were erased early in Game 1 when Xavier scored five goals, all in the first period. C Nevin Barston scored two goals and had an assist on the rout, while RW Ralph Emerson scored two others to continue his own rise to fame. It was much of the same story in Game 2, with the Dragoons scoring early thanks to RW Stella Brint, which was responded by the Hammerheads unleashing a barrage of shots at Lucjusz, who eventually wilted under pressure. Game 3 was the closest game, with both teams playing brilliant hockey, but it was Emerson who scored the Game-winner that set up the Hammerheads on the brink of a three-peat. Wolvesbane managed to start to whittle away at the lead with wins in Games 4 and 5 as Brint and Timo led the team when the team needed them the most. In fact, there was talk about a comeback that would put the Dragoons as the only team to rally back from three games down in the Karson Cup Finals. For two and two-thirds of a period in Game 6 at Xavier, the Dragoons had hope. However, Finals MVP Ralph Emerson scored on a brilliant shot from the left corner, and the Xavier Hammerheads became a three-time champion of the Yesopalitha Hockey League after squeaking in into the playoffs.

NORTHERN SUNRISE ISLANDS BID FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP HOCKEY LEAGUE XIV FINALS
DUBEAUX STADIUM/STADE DUBEAUX, ARRENDINE

Image

Upon the success of the bid for the Finals to be hosted at the InComm Arena at Matthew City, the Northern Sunrise Islands Hockey Confederation, together with the Prefecture of the City of Arrendine (french: Préfecture d'Arrendine) to host, if possible to host consecutive finals at Northern Sunrise Islands, the Champions Hockey League at the multi-sportive DuBeaux Stadium (french: Stade DuBeaux).

Teams that play at the Stadium
Arrendine City Aviators [Soccer]
Arrendine Bleus [Basketball]
Arrendine Remparts [Hockey]
DuBeaux Rouges [College]

Future Events to be hosted at the Stadium
Francóphone Bowl [Soccer and College]
NSI Cup 4 Finals [Soccer]

With a capacity of 70,000 seats, the DuBeaux Stadium is named after the president of the confederation that later formed the Republic of Northern Sunrise Islands, Madame Elise DuBeaux. Located on the Arrendine Island, on the Northwest of the country, the main language used on Arrendine is French, though English is also used normally. Also part of the reform that changed the face of the various homes of sport at NSI, has a contractible roof and also the ability of changing floors, from an icy hockey court to a normal basketball court.

The city of Arrendine is said to be a decently rich city, in the same life style of neighbors Moncton and Tremways. Rich thanks to the very-profitable business of transporting many things through sea, Arrendine Island is one of the very few areas on NSI that allows beverages, though only after 18:00.

A very busy day at Arrendine City.

Its hockey team, the Arrendine Remparts, though not expecting to go far, except for going as far as most hockey teams of NSI went last tournament, are still hopeful of their chances. The Remparts lost to two-times champions Madjorie Castors.

Consistency from the Divers. The Combatants at least were in the top half, which is more than we can say for last season's other playoff teams. Oh well.

After surviving a high-scoring game one, the Pinnacles took their second game rather more sedately only to lose a just-as-high-scoring game three. They would wrap the series up in game four, however. Similarly, the first game in the other semifinal was the longest, with the Divers eventually breaking a scoreless tie; they also lost their third game but won the other two. The Pinnacles would win only the fourth of the five games, with numbers there and five being quite close; nevertheless, the Divers won them both to become champions.

CHL Teams:
1. Downtown Divers
2. South Borogoves
3. Northern Pinnacles
4. Upper Force

Since I'm a bit bogged down with my domestic soccer cup (which so far has taken up quite a bit of my time), the cutoffs for the CHL have been moved back ONE week.

29th Solo Cup Champions - Davenport Pilots
The Davenport Pilots earned their tenth Solo Cup after defeating the Capital City Captains 4-2 in the best-of-seven series. Capital City had been favored after winning a league-high 37 games during the regular season, but the strong play of Davenport goaltender Lance Wall helped the Pilots win the coveted trophy. Capital City returned for its fourth-consecutive trip to the finals but yet again suffered defeat. Despite a league record 12 Solo Cup appearances, the Captains have not won the Cup since the 20th Solo Cup finals. Davenport has sealed its reputation as the best HHL team of the last ten years with five finals appearances and four Solo Cup championships.

Two hours late past the extended deadline, so no worries if you choose not to accept these teams to the CHL.

Representing Aels (AEL), per here:
1 Seahampton (as regular season champions)
2 Penfro (as playoff champions)
3 Drayfill Icehounds
4 Amman Glen
Main nation: Liventia

Quite late, of course, and I don't care if you include these teams or not; only do so if it helps you create an easier format. The Citiz international entrants, per this post, are:

Champions Hockey League ~ Eastern Chase Innovation, Western Chase Speed, Topher Slapshots, Bartewick Lasers

Because I'm a nice guy, my interns will mess up again and let you play. (Is it possible that they have some Dancougarite blood in them? - Yes, yes they do.)

The Fourteenth Champions Hockey League: Sponsored by ITV

Final Host Site
The CHL Executive Committee enjoyed the games of Beer Pong used to decide the host site for CHL13 so much, that they have officialy decided to amend the CHL by laws to make Beer Pong the official decider of the Host Site, rather than voting. Head of the Committee, Javier Baltimore is quoted as saying, "Vutin' tis uvaritad. Bear Ping fung!"

The 29 member Committee was split into two teams of 14, with the representative of Civil Citizenry serving as Score Keeper and Referee (apparently this was punishment for his associations lateness in entering its teams). The game was played in a one vs. one Round-Robin format. A total of 196 games were played over a two day period. No deaths were reported, and all Committee members were given rides to their hotel rooms (also done by the Citiz representative, again, as punishment).

SaxerDome II 175
Dubeaux Stadium 21

And while you might consider that a bit of an blowout, the Polarian representative summed up the Beer Pong game pretty well, saying, "A bit tipsay poerahpos."

Havl Hockey Prepares for First Lively Cup

Capital City - It's only the second time these four players have been in the same room together, and other than this year's HHL All-Star game, there has never been this much Havl-grown talent concentrated toward on goal. Hugh Monteith, Jason State, Justin Donndelinger, and Quinton Ancrum are the captains of the four HHL squads bound for the Champions Hockey League later this week. As they pose for press photos before their flights to Qazox, the players chat and talk about their chances in the tournament. "It's a great honor," says State, captain of the Solo Cup-champion Davenport Pilots. "I missed the [Lively Cup] tournament because of some lingering hamstring pain, but I feel good to play."

The fourteenth Champions Hockey League tournament marks the debut of HHL teams in international competition. Aside from a few exhibition games to start the season, none of the four squads has played outside of the league in anger. "They're good teams," says Monteith, captain of the Ilium Winterhawks. "What can we expect? I'm just hoping we get to play more than one game." Ilium is scheduled to open the tournament with a match against Rehaven Tide of the Falconfar Premier Hockey League in the qualifying round. The winner of that match will face Davenport. Monteith's Winterhawks would love to beat their longtime Western Conference rivals. "The bragging rights would be huge," says Monteith. "You know, [Davenport] beat us in the Solo Cup conference finals, but I think we can definitely beat them in a one game situation."

Eastern Conference stalwart Harleston will face Chinquin Comets of the Taeshan Hockey League in the preliminary round. "Matchups were just announced, so we haven't had much time to study films of the teams yet," says Harleston captain Quinton Ancrum. The forward-minded defenseman has led the HHL in scoring among D-men for three of the last four seasons. "It'll be good for the team to get on the ice and play a fresh team," says Ancrum. The Knights lost to HHL President's Trophy winners Capital City in a devastating seven-game series. "That's hockey," says Ancrum. "Sometimes you don't win, and that just motivates you to play harder next time."

As the HHL team with the best record, the Capital City Captains earn a bye to the group stage. "We'll be watching the games, learning, and practicing," says team captain Justin Donndelinger. "And obviously rooting for the other Havl teams, which will probably feel a little strange." Earlier this year, Donndelinger led the men's national team to a disappointing last-place finish in the inaugural Lively Cup. "It was embarrassing," says Donndelinger. "It's good to be playing with the Caps again." The Captains earned their fourth-consecutive trip to the Solo Cup finals last season, but the ten-year Cup drought continues in Capital City. "We're obviously a very good team," says Donndelinger. "It's all about stepping up in the big game. We've done that, but it hasn't been enough."

Tournament organizers announced the schedule for next week's opening round. The games will be played at the SaxerDome in Qazox. Ilium is set to face the Rehaven Tide in the first match of the qualifying round. The winner of that game will play Davenport in the preliminary round while Harleston plays the Chinquin Comets.

Schedule - Fourteenth Champions Hockey League
Qualifying Round - 8/20/2012

Preliminary Round - 8/20/12
