The Greater Yorktown Airport was founded in 1949 after Archduke James III ordered a new airport to be built in Yorktown, the capital of Azerbach. The construction of teh airport began in 1946 but was stalled in 1947 due to the hurricane that hit the western coast that caused all work efforts to be focused on the rebuilding of the ports and trade hubs in western Azerbach. Archduke James III flew out of Greater Yorktown Airport whenever he flew to visit a foreign partner or traveled to visit the Azer citizens that he ruled. The airport began home to Yorktown Air and Alpha Aerospace. These two companies began to proposer with their hubs within the airport that Archduke James III built.
Greater Yorktown later opened itself to charter and private traffic. After its opening of the new private section, three charter jet companies moved to the airport. The private section also made the airport the main center for wealthy traveling. The wealthy and nobles of Azerbach began to fly to the airport to visit the Archduke for his parties and the annual celebrations. Eventually Archduke Maxwell I opened the airport to international traffic. However, it required trade rights or an alliance to fly into Greater Yorktown. Overtime, many new companies opened up hubs in the airport.
