About Newmanistanian Basketball:
Those familiar with us in previous competitions know that we “live and die with the three-pointer.” While we have made strides to become more balanced, we’re still going to be dangerous from behind the arc, and from well beyond the arc. You see, in Newmanistan’s Professional (and Collegiate) Leagues there is an additional “four point” line which is an additional six feet behind the three point line. While this line will not exist in any IBC games, because of its existence in Newmanistan, our players have become comfortable shooting from distances that opponents may not be prepared to defend.

Newmanistan Timeline Note: Our timeline considers all tournaments in its progression. In Newmanistan, it is currently 2104, which will make it 3 years after IBC 7, on our calendar.

Newmanistan Fun Fact: The Rockets are now the only team to compete in all IBC's.

Starting Lineup:

Coach: Phil McDowell
Assistant: Tank Nelson (41) (Played on all 7 IBC Teams as the starting center)

Name: Scott Lavelle (6' 6")
Position: PG
Age: 27
Jersey: 10
Strengths: Flashy player, sometimes will pass up a high percentage play for something more fancy to get on the sports highlights programs but is starting to get smarter about that. Dangerous from behind the 3-point line, and the charity stripe. At home, he can hit the “4" well too, so be prepared. A member of the IBC 4 & 5 Championship teams.

Name: Corey Savage (6' 4")
Position: SG
Age: 21
Jersey: 1
Strengths: Makes his debut on the senior team after impressively leading Southport Naval Academy in the recently completed NSCAA 3. Other then being an all-around athlete on the court, and he is a very intelligent young man and a leader off of it. An example of this is that he sought the blessing of the other guards on the team who are older before he would accept this starting nod over them. A true role model.

Name: Ukembe Ugalde (7' 4")
Position: C
Age: 28
Jersey: 54
Strengths: Rebounding, obviously. He’s got some huge shoes to fill (figuratively speaking) as he replaces the legendary Tank Nelson in the middle. He has experience coming off the bench in the last two tournaments.

Name: Corey Ostroff (6' 10")
Position: PF
Age: 29
Jersey: 22
Strengths: Physical force inside, excels at rebounding, and always good for a nice powerful dunk when he gets a chance. Sometimes gets into foul trouble. Hit the game-winning shot in the International Basketball Championship 4 title game (game 3).

Name: Robert Cartier (6'7")
Position: SF
Age: 29
Jersey: 33
Strengths: Collegiate teammate of Scott Lavelle. Robert is a well-rounded player, and good at drawing fouls. Probably will be the target of opponents late in the game to put on the line due to only a 62% free-throw shooting number.

Bench:
G: #11- Thomas Horrigan (29, 6'2")
G: #23- Robert Sandberg (30, 6'7")
C: #35- Tyler McCarthy (22, 7'0") - International Debut
C: #51- Jeff Flynn (28, 6'11")
F: #44- Kendrick Fischette (31, 6'8")
F: #40- Eric Moore (25, 6'7")
Util: #1- Victor Gonzalez (27, 6'6")

All Games are held at the Jeremy McAllister Arena in Putnam Lake. Capacity 20,020.

RP Permissions: You may roleplay injuries only by saying a player is hurt, I will determine the severity. Please have my team be aggressive from three-point land. Other then that, nothing greatly unrealistic. A little unrealistic is ok.

“You know, I’m sick of people thinking this way!” said coach Phil McDowell to his new assistant Tank Nelson.

“Which way are you referring too?”

“Ever since Sarzonia won the last IBC, people are claiming that they are the best basketball playing nation in the world, in an undisputed manner.”

“Who’s said that?”

“Some people from Sibirsky is what I am mainly referring too. I really wanna have a big tournament this year, Tank. People need to reminded, it seems, that Sarzonia is not the only nation to have won two championships, and that we won two also, and got them by defeating the Stars themselves, not some other team.”

“I agree that I want to have a big tournament, I think we can. So much of our team is in their prime now and I expect them to do well. I know they feel it too, that people are forgetting the talent level of Newmanistan basketball and our great history. We’re the only nation to have done all of them, have won two titles, lost one, and are a repeated contender. Sarzonia has never won a title by defeating us. We have on them, twice.”

“The guys are in good shape. They’re excited about going to Civil Citizenry and I think we’ll have a great showing. Fans are going to eat up tickets, I’m sure.”

“Whatever it takes, just like your style out there on the court. We’ll know who we play tomorrow, and I want us to go into kickass mode. This tournament is all about reminding some people about Newmanistan basketball, because some have apparently forgotten.”

The basketball culture in Cotdelapoms is an interesting one. The sport is one of the most popular participation sports for both adults and children, especially in the south. Basketball courts are everywhere in the major cities and there are no lack of basketball gyms all over. Regardless, it still lags way behind ice hockey, football, rugby union, baseball and curling as a spectator sport- Cotdelapoms' professional basketball league, the CBA/ABC depending on language, has a limited television contract and average attendance at games around 4,000. By comparison, the CHL does an average of 17,000 fans, and even minor league (Barsteeg Championship: 6,500) and junior (LHJMM: 5,000) ice hockey does better. This even includes attendance being buoyed by the presence of a popular club in Cotdelapoms' most populous city- Albionpool Metropolitans draw about 9,000 a game, which is a perfectly respectable number, all things considered.

BasketCotdelapoms hopes this all changes with a strong performance in IBC 8, the first IBC in which Cotdelapoms has competed. Cotdelapoms snuck into the tournament by finishing 5th in the Rushmori qualifiers with a decisive 84-55 win over Greater Cotswalds. The team is fast and athletic and features some sharpshooters from 3 point land, but will almost certainly get pushed around by the bigger teams. The team eschews a traditional centre to play with three guards, and the two forwards' mostly concern themselves with positioning for rebounds, knowing they won't be gaining many with their height.

Starting Five:
G- Noah Matthews
G- Benoît Landry
G- Lucas Turner
F- Gilles Veillet
F- Gabriel Robinson

Landry and Turner are both good three point shooters, Landry is a little more willing to go to the basket. Noah Matthews is a classic point guard.

Bench:
G- William Griffiths
G- Ch'itx'Ch Ri'zz
G- Xavier St-Jean
G- Colin Sterling
F- Jean Bassong
F- Marquis Courtouis
F- Andrew Walker
C- Yx'rci'Ll Ll'ecz'cx

NEW PALMOUTH NEWSFLASH
The New Palmouthian Basketball coach Tony King was looked very ill today as he was taken to hospital on arrival in Civil Citizenry, while the rest of his team also arrived. Tony was said to be suffering from severe sickness and will miss training while doctors investigate the cause.

The rest of the team were still happy regardless as they arrived at 4pm NPT (New Palmouth Time). Team captain Owen Childs said "We're looking forward to our first tournament. We've been waiting all year and we're very much prepared for it".

The team begins training tomorrow morning, with Owen standing in for Tony in attending the draw tomorrow evening

No particular order to the backups. DeNancy is the sixth man every game, no question, and will share time with Ortega, but other than that there's no order to it. If a player has a class listed next to their college, it means they're still playing for their college.

Have fun with it! :)

Coach: Henry West (60 years old). West served as coach of the SBA's Portland Lumberjacks until he retired four seasons ago. He remained as a basketball analyst for the Sarzonian Sports Network and three years away from the rigours of coaching gave him fresh perspective. He favours a half court offence and a stingy man-to-man defence, but can adjust depending on the personnel he has or the opponent's greatest strengths. Guided the Stars to the title in the team's inaugural IBC and eventually five consecutive finals and a second championship.
Assistant coaches: Matt Walton (53; head coach of the Woodstock Warriors of the SBA); Dave Tunney (44; head coach of the Wilmington Clippers of the IBL).

Starting lineup
PG: Brandon Collins, 30 (6-foot-4, 205 pounds), Wilmington. Collins led the IBL in assists-to-turnovers ratio with 5.1 in 35 games. He is known as a deft passer of the ball and finished third in the league in assists with 8.9 per game.
SG: Chris Draden, 26 (6-foot-6, 215 pounds), Woodstock. Draden led the SBA in scoring with 29.6 points per game and is surprisingly strong on the boards, averaging 6.4 per game. He isn't that great at creating his own shot, but is working with Walton to improve that aspect of his game.
SF: Will Christian, 30 (6-foot-8, 220 pounds), Tacoma Terror, IBL. Christian has good speed and a deft shooting touch, averaging 15.7 points per game. He added 3.2 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game last season.
PF: George Tblik, 33 (6-foot-9, 245 pounds), Saugerties Breeze, IBL. Tblik is a banger, pure and simple. He has a deft touch inside, but has trouble hitting a jumper beyond 10 feet. Averaged 9.7 points per game and 10.6 rebounds per game.
C: Cole Schooler, 29 (7 feet, 275 pounds), Portland. Schooler led both leagues in rebounding with 14.9 per game. He has a surprisingly strong shooter's touch from the international 3-point line.

Reserves
G Marty Rathburn (6-foot-3, 195 pounds), Tacoma
G Jeff King (6-foot-7, 215 pounds), Woodstock
G/F Terry Fox (6-foot-6, 220 pounds), Rypien Rush, IBL
F Corey Landry (6-foot-9, 230 pounds), Portland
F Gabe Loretta (6-foot-8, 240 pounds), free agent
F/C Joey Mason (6-foot-10, 275 pounds), free agent
G/F/C Matt Wesley (6-foot-7, 255 pounds), free agent

(Yes, Wesley plays all five positions on the court. He has ridiculously good ball handling skills and can hit shots from Newmanistan's four-point line or bang inside. Obviously, his height would be a disadvantage if he were playing the four or the five.)

Note: All home fixtures will be played at The Palestra in Woodstock (capacity 21,730).

After a semifinal appearance at IBC 7, basketball has taken off a bit in Qazox and now is the 5th biggest sport, trailing only Football, Baseball, GridIron and Ice hockey. But only one of the 8 players from that team decided to return, the first woman to play basketball for Qazox, Diane Dobbs.

So who are the other 9 players that will join Dobbs in an attempt to make it to Civil Citizenry for the IBC playoffs?

STARTING LINEUP:

#9 PG: Greg Hammond (6' 2")- Has great touch on his passes and has a great 3-pt range. A bit of a liability on defense though. Best FT shooter on team.
#17 SG: Diane Dobbs (5' 10")- Qazox' best defender and can guard anyone under 6' 8"; but isn't a great shooter. Good FT shooter.
#8 SF: Tirone Hicks (6' 9")- Big and beefy rebounder. Has a suprisingly decent shot from anywhere within the arc. Mediocre FT shooter.
#13 PF: Chad McIllroy (6' 9")- Same height as Hicks, but is skinny. Great shooter and FT shooter. Can't rebound weel, but can defend big men well.
#2 C: Mike Mauer (7' 2")- At 17, still is learning the game a bit; but can do everything you expect a center to do. Struggles at the line, so we might see him ride the bench late.

BENCH:
#16 Guard: Irene Sandoval (6' 0") 2nd female on team. Dencent defender and shooter, will likely be 1st option off bench to spell either Hammond or Dobbs.
#7 Guard: Paul Tide (6' 4")- Best defeseive option off of bench for Qazox. Not a great shot, but can get to line and make FT.
#8 SF: Frank Bautista (6' 8")- 3-pt specialist for Qazox. Can provide spark off bench offensively, but liability defensively.
#44 PF: Van Chambers (6' 11)- The only white guy on team. Plays good defense and can shoot well, but does get into foul trouble due to agressive play.
#18 C: Omar Sah (7' 1")- A more experienced version of Mauer, but has injury problems and will likely play only during blowouts.

Qazox was drawn into group 4 and on paper, they should easily make the trip to Civil Citizenry; but as we know at the IBC almost anything can happen. Bergnovinaia seems to be the most experienced team besides Qazox in the group and should give the still un-named Qazox team a good run for the group title.

Here's the schedule:
    BYE
    @ Bergnovinaia
    vs. Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuk
    @ Mpya Mwanzo
    vs. New Palmouth
    BYE
    vs. Bergnovinaia
    @ Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuk
    vs. Mpya Mwanzo
    @ New Palmouth

All of Qazox' Home Games will be played at the Palace of New Bruxen located within the New Bruxen Hotel and Casino.

Sea Dragons Go Defense
The Sea Dragons decision to compete in IBC 8 was never in doubt. With basketball still edging out footy as the most popular domestic sport, sending a team to compete in the premier international competition is something that simply would happen. Following the conclusion of IBC 7, the entire roster called it quits, citing differences with then head coach Tecybe Dra'usto and his offensive mindset. Most of the outgoing players had publicly laid the blame for poor performances in big games squarely on Dra’usto. Obviously the powers that be agreed with the sentiment and Dra’usto was let go and Errion Vega University head coach Maronngga Kal’aseav promoted to run the team. The move did little to inspire the pro players who had left and none will return for this IBC.

With an empty roster, Kal’asaev decided upon a new approach. If offensive firepower was not enough to win consistently at the international level, he would hold true to his own belief that defense wins championships and build his roster accordingly. The end result is a very young, very aggressive roster that will look to use their physical presence on the defensive end of the court to derail their opponent’s offensive abilities.

That overbearing defense will be key in a tough Group 5 that includes the other Dragons from Cosumar and tough Darmen and Mangolana teams looking to knock the Sea Dragons out. Ockkorlond is the unknown of the group but defense will prevail against them as well.

So now let’s make some predictions.

GROUP 1
Should be easy for Churchma to take this group as only Wolfmanne stand out from the rest of never-heard-ofs.
Predicted finish:
1 Churchma
2 Wolfmanne
3 Nicole Riche
4 Okunion
5 Beaverriver

GROUP 2

Valladares will be tested by Stachland and 95X, and Matting will be in the mix as well. Cbngggfv doesn’t have a prayer.
Predicted finish:
1. 95X
2. Valladares
3. Stachland
4. Matting
5. Cbngggfv

GROUP 3
Ouch. The three way race for this group is tough. Newmanistan is top dog, but they have the hosts and Cotdelapoms.
Predicted finish:
1. Cotdelapoms
2. Newmanistan
3. Civil Citizenry
4. Chadacian
5. Commonwealths of Isles

GROUP 4
Like us, Qazox will struggle with a new roster for a bit. Unlike us, there is no one here to dethrone them.
Predicted finish:
1. Qazox
2. Bergnovinaia
3. New Palmouth
4. Mpya Mwanzo
5. Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuk

GROUP 5
We will not give our opponents fuel to burn us with.

GROUP 6
This group is stacked. Delaclava will have their hands full holding off everyone else.
Predicted finish:
1. Delaclava
2. Jimmer Fredette
3. Altmarus
4. Taeshan
5. Swartaz

GROUP 7
The only real question? Who finishes third?
Predicted finish:
1. Cassadaigua
2. Virabia
3. Bigsea
4. VANTELIRA
5. Raurosia

GROUP 8
Same as Group 7. No surprises here.
Predicted finish:
1. Sarzonia
2, Carasatoga
3. Stuffed Taxidermist
4. Klenginistan

It's clear that Cotdelapoms are not the favourite to win the International Basketball Championship. Having never qualified before, and not being a huge basketball nation, there's not a lot of pressure to win, and that's just the way head coach Terry Jefferson likes it. "I follow the news, I know we've got the World Cup of Hockey coming and I'm excited too, but those guys are gonna be under a lot of pressure to bring it home for our country. We're not, so if we can do it too that'd be huge." Jefferson told the media at the send-off press conference.

Still, they should not be taken lightly. Benoît Landry and Lucas Turner are legitimate three point threats who should have fun turning the game with Newmanistan into a three point shooting contest, which can go either way even if they will be heavily favoured. The hosts, Civil Citizenry will be a tough opponent as well, as their fans are sure to get involved in the game, something our team likely will have had no experience with.

Regardless of the result, Cotdelapoms' small but passionate basketball community has something to be excited about for the first time since the formation of the league. Getting out of the group stage would be one of the most exciting results in the history of Cotdelapomais sport.

Jimmer Fredette Daily

By:John Jackson

This is it.The season has finally started. And the Jimmer Fredette Patriots could not be looking better in practice for their first season.Watching the practices, the Pats look like they could have a breakout season. It also helps the only team that has experience is Delaclava.Basketball isn't the biggest sport in Jimmer Fredette, but it is pretty big.In the first game,we play Swartaz.Swartaz has not shown a roster and has remained unanimous. It is a big game for each team trying to establish a good, playoff team.Coach Kenner said he was getting kind of annoyed. All the "experts" were picking this team to finish fourth or fifth. He showed all this to his team and made sure they were mad.He said there was no way this team was coming last.We might not make the playoffs, but eventually we will get there and hopefully go really far.Jack Mayberry, the captain said our team looks good. All the starters have showed their strengths.Joseph Curran has had the threes,Wayne Buster has shown defense,Jack Mayberry has shown the fancy moves,Bryan Shine has shown a great pick-and-roll,pick or roll, and Nick Majors has shown the ability to get wide open. The captain went on to say this looks like a big season. We could easily make the playoffs,as well as easily blow it.Lets go win over a good Swartaz team. The three shooter,Joseph Curran, said Swartaz is a good team and we got to step it up a notch. We can't just sit back and prove the experts right. Those experts are wrong and we will make the playoffs. The Jimmer Fredette sports history has a lot of playoff appearances. In fact every team has.The only one not to is the World Bowl team who made the Baptism Of Iron playoffs. That history will go on.Hopefully a win and a good season and remember,LETS GO PATS!
