Most people in London (certinally most students here) live in cramped shit boxes. I don't like it. It's not awesome having no space to spread out your books to work. It's not awesome having to keep your bed shoved against the wall, so you have to climb over your s/o to get up in the morning.

It's even more frustrating when you actually have a home elsewhere that has mountains of space, and all the creature comforts you want, but isn't in commuting distance of the city.

What I really want is a big rambling finca a long way away from the human dross, with no city noise, no chavs, gangstas, megachurches and drug dealers, with land of my own for a garden to relax in, and good land to cultivate fresh dates, oranges and almonds, where I run and train my dogs, or just loose myself for a while. And I want a goddam Citroen DS soft top parked outside, and satellite internet, and decent air con with a healf decent heat pump, and that has decent ceramic floor tiles, not that cheap pseudo-moorish glazed shite, and a washer-drier that can dry more than 3 pieces of underwear in one go, a gas through-flow hot water system, and I want a decent bougainvillea plant that doesn't look half dead too.

Really, it's not that much to ask now, is it?

Try raising a family in that thing.
I wish I could pay less than $100 a year in utilities, had extremely low property taxes and mortgage and all that. But 89 square feet is about the size of the smallest room in my house. It's simply not enough space for most of us.

The guy that says that it's less than 1/10 of the average house, although technically correct, still implies that the average is in the 900 sq ft range. It's actually about 1/27th of the US average.

depends on how it's constructed. with proper insulation in the walls...

and yeah... for me, I would take the kitchen out (I don't really use my kitchen... A microwave oven and toaster oven serves me well) as for having people over? well that's a given. "one at a time please."
