Okay, Tarchuna and Ravenna, you need to chill. Nowhere remotely close to a majority of the new arrivals have been spamming or otherwise causing any trouble (site lag during the peak surge aside.) The only one right here coming close to breaking the rules is you with the incessant flamebaity ranting about the new arrivals.

Have there been more rulebreaking nations compared to normal? Yes; because there has been a much higher volume of new nations compared to normal. As someone who actually does have to handle rulebreaking conduct as a moderator I have not observed any especially noticeable trend to indicate that any major fraction of the newcomers have been here to cause trouble, only the expected "tiny percentage of all new nations are trouble" coupled with the increased volume of new nations. As I stated earlier in this very thread:

The important thing to remember is that there will always be assholes in any group. Yes, we've been slammed cleaning up inappropriate new nations, but that's just a given whenever there's a large influx of new players regardless of the source. Let's say maybe 1% of all new nations are assholes; when you suddenly get 30,000 new accounts all at once, you invariably get more assholes because 1% of 30,000 is going to be a much larger number than 1% of normal new nation traffic.

Newbies will be newbies, that is hardly unique to Nationstates. Ranting and frothing about new players and flaming somebody for the "crime" of ignoring you when you rant and froth at them while they are still learning about the game and its community is not going to magically make anybody listen to you, and is more likely going to just discourage newcomers from trying to learn at all.

So climb down from your high horse, go take a walk or do something else to decompress, and chill the hell out.

Consider the following - New nations who stumbled upon this game while looking for alternatives to other games (Kingdom of Loathing, say, or Godville) are gonna face some real flak, just because they're in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's best to just cut the flak against all the nations, while, of course, ensuring that people don't spam or do bad things(which, I must admit, is easier said than done). Also, is no one considering that the video brings (if not welcome) publicity to NationStates?

Not a mod (and I may be overstepping a boundary here, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong), but a word of advice because you're rather new and probably didn't notice: Tarchuna and Ravenna has already been talked to by a moderator. Generally speaking, perpetuating these conflicts after a mod's stepped in causes nothing but more division and drama. T&R was in the wrong, yes, but I'd suggest you leave it there.

To all Drew fans who've joined, I know instances like the one above will happen a lot. Some people are sceptical of Drew's fanbase, and I think the best thing to do is just prove them wrong. I'm sure the majority of you are great people. You'll meet a lot of naysayers on this forum, telling you which communities to stay in/out and what's the best place to start. These people all have good intentions, but my personal suggestion is to look around for yourselves and see what you can find.

There are a ton of communities and activities in NationStates; there are also many experienced players willing to help. I've not really been in this community for very long (I've only been playing for just over a year, lol. Some people have been playing here for nearly twenty years!), but I'm relatively accustomed to how things work here, always happy to share advice. Send me (or my main account South Reinkalistan) a telegram if you have any questions about NS.

It's not wise to make a region as you're a new nation, it may be harder than you expect.

Let them experiment. They can decide later if they want to keep and grow their region, keep it as their personal Fortress of Solitude, invite a few friends to it, or join a more established region.

There's no "winning" Nationstates, so they can take their time exploring what it has to offer.

Yes. I gifted it to him. I don't know if I am good or evil for it, but I figured he was going to get a bunch of telegrams and likely not be able to go through them all before the game autodeleted it. The downside to this, is that his hatemail telegrams will remain intact if he got any. If he did, he can report them via the Getting Help Request function if they violate the game rules.

This is no more an embarrassment to the community than Condemn Nations Creating Regions for SC Props or Liberate The East Pacific were. However, I didn't see you speaking out about either of those. In many ways this is less an embarrassment than either of those two were; because at least Condemn Deruuu is creatively written and brings and interesting in-universe construction to Drewsday. Where Condemn Nations Creating Regions for SC props was an unfunny, poorly written, and badly reskinned version of Condemn This Game; and Liberate The East Pacific was a knock off of a joke that had already been done a couple years ago.

The SC is treating Condemn Deruuu the way it (and the GA for that matter) has treated every unwarranted or ill-begotten proposal since I joined the site. By stomping it into the ground.

And while we stomp it's important to remember that it's nothing to get bent out of shape over; it's nothing to get flustered about. Take a breath and remember that you're playing a game and that sometimes (but only sometimes ) people can have fun playing it.

Then again, Deruuu didn't directly encourage his followers to come to NS and crash the site, it was more of his followers interested in the site because they watched Deruuu's video.
