Texan secession

Postby Paulmania » Tue Aug 28, 2012 7:56 pm

It is widely known the world over that Texans are a different breed of American. Texas and the rest of the 49 are practically a dichotomy, both culturally and politically. Texas contains six of the nation's 20 most populous cities, including the oil city of Houston and the high-tech metropolis of Austin. It is second only to Alaska in terms of size and just behind California in population. Frankly, Texas may as well be its own country.

Should it be?

That is, if Texans demanded it. With the way things are going up in DC, you never know how pissy the Southerners in cowboy hats are gonna get. When Rick Perry intimated a desire or threat to secede, the crowd went wild.

Texas may just be too different to stay in a union that is increasingly becoming more hostile, rancid, and outrageous in its actions. If Texans really did get behind a secession movement, I'd love to see them secede.

If it is viable, and most of the people in Texas vote for it, then sure.

The culture of Texas has been a melting pot of the "Southern" (Dixie) and Southwestern culture, with pockets of colonies of ethnic groups in many locations.

Texan culture is different from general American culture, how? Besides having far more Latino culture mixed in, of course.

And if the majority of Texans want to secede, and the states ratify their secession in overwhelming majority, and the federal government gives consent, and Texas pays a negotiated price for all federal property now a part of Texas, and pays in full to have all loyal citizens relocated to the United States, then yes. It should be allowed.

I doubt the majority of Texans would really want secession. And nice partisan jab there, it really makes you look more credible.

No, it wouldn't be able to. It would have to raise a militia to try and even consider it. Plus the union will not allow. If it did? Well that would be bad as others would try and secede.

Texas's own population, in its majority, likely wouldn't enjoy secession.

I doubt everyone will support it. Starting anew governemnt needs lots of money, and no nation but China is in any position to loan money. Not to mention the last time States seceded for cultural reasons. That turned out spectacularly.

Why not?

Because it's a stupid goddamn idea. Texas is a -percentage- of USA's income maker. A percentage. That means that, if Texas were to ever peacefully secede, we would be the laughingstock of the entire world as our economy crashes from essentially severing ourselves from the country we have been apart of for hundreds of years.

I'm sorry, it's just such a stupid idea it makes me furious that some fellow Texans actually think that this idea is a good one. I actually like Texas, and would like for it to continue to prosper under the USA rather than toil into obscurity or completely crash in the effort and become the laughingstock of the world as we limp back to our country.
