It's normal for there to be people idolising him like that. Same way Americans are taught to idolise the Founding Fathers.

I've never met anyone in this country who would consider Washington, Jefferson, Adams, Hancock, Franklin, any of the founding fathers to be deities. In fact, even when I was in public school, there was always some mention of their failings, such as the unresolved slavery issue.

Why wouldn't King be inspired by the leader of a successful pacifist movement, even if he was racist? Hitler ate sugar, that hasn't stopped anyone from using it.

Comparing how King was inspired to Hitler eating sugar is like saying apples are oranges. It is silly. If he was like that, it may have won, but it still leaves a bad reputation.
