The Prince's Shield
A pre-season friendly tournament open to 6 international club teams held in Queer Poco el Mono Ara. The Prince’s Shield is a pre-season friendly tournament developed by the QPMAFA in honor of the Queer Poco royal family. The royal family own Una Serie de Fútbol side Royal Khaldoon – who automatically qualify for the competition. The royal family are avid fans of football and hate the summer months during the end of the season, as such an 8 team competition came to fruition to entertain the royals, with invitations being sent to the football associations of foreign nations inviting them to take part. The inaugural Prince’s Shield saw Queer Poco also enter their league champions (this year happened to be Pythons).
The design of the tournament is 2 groups of 4 with the top two teams from each group qualifying for the semi-finals and the winners proceeding to the final. If teams are tied at the end of the group stage, they will be separated by goal difference, head to head or goals scored. If the teams remain level a one off match will be played to discern who qualifies for the semi-finals.
Although the league champions from Queer Poco qualified for the first ever tournament the 6 remaining slots are available to international teams who finished in any position in their domestic league. With the friendly nature of the tournament it is not expected or anticipated that any of the 8 play with their best XI as reserves and new transfers join the team and look to impress while first team regulars from the previous season take a break. Although a number of first XI may well make the journey to Queer Poco it depends on the outlook of the coach of the team in question.
The tournament takes place in the Queer Poco el Mono Ara capital of Khaldoon, utilizing the 4 Una Serie de Fútbol stadiums and 2 lower league stadiums present in the capital city. The final is contested at the Royal Khaldoon home ground Royal Stadium. At the end of the 10 day tournament the winning team is presented with a shield from his royal highness the Prince Ahmed Omar Bakhiri.
