The Prince's Shield [Finally Complete]

Postby Queer Poco el Mono Ara » Sat Jun 13, 2009 11:40 am

The Prince's Shield

A pre-season friendly tournament open to 6 international club teams held in Queer Poco el Mono Ara. The Prince’s Shield is a pre-season friendly tournament developed by the QPMAFA in honor of the Queer Poco royal family. The royal family own Una Serie de Fútbol side Royal Khaldoon – who automatically qualify for the competition. The royal family are avid fans of football and hate the summer months during the end of the season, as such an 8 team competition came to fruition to entertain the royals, with invitations being sent to the football associations of foreign nations inviting them to take part. The inaugural Prince’s Shield saw Queer Poco also enter their league champions (this year happened to be Pythons).

The design of the tournament is 2 groups of 4 with the top two teams from each group qualifying for the semi-finals and the winners proceeding to the final. If teams are tied at the end of the group stage, they will be separated by goal difference, head to head or goals scored. If the teams remain level a one off match will be played to discern who qualifies for the semi-finals.

Although the league champions from Queer Poco qualified for the first ever tournament the 6 remaining slots are available to international teams who finished in any position in their domestic league. With the friendly nature of the tournament it is not expected or anticipated that any of the 8 play with their best XI as reserves and new transfers join the team and look to impress while first team regulars from the previous season take a break. Although a number of first XI may well make the journey to Queer Poco it depends on the outlook of the coach of the team in question.

The tournament takes place in the Queer Poco el Mono Ara capital of Khaldoon, utilizing the 4 Una Serie de Fútbol stadiums and 2 lower league stadiums present in the capital city. The final is contested at the Royal Khaldoon home ground Royal Stadium. At the end of the 10 day tournament the winning team is presented with a shield from his royal highness the Prince Ahmed Omar Bakhiri.

Azul Fly The Flag

It’s been a busy mid season spell so far with the national under-21 side sweeping all before them over in Starblaydia, the seniors preparing for the biggest Baptism of Fire tournament EVER and now SuperLiga side Porto Alegro Azul has been selected to compete in the inaugural Prince’s Shield competition in Queer Poco. Once the invitation was received the FFS wasted little time in giving the Azul the nod to make the trip to Khaldoon. And they sure deserve it after a wonderful first season in charge for rookie coach Agustín Durán saw the port city side miss out on the Globe Cup by a single point.

And although they will be taking the opportunity to bed in some new signings and take a look at young players Durán will still ensure his players take the tournament very seriously. “I want to win trophies and pre-season or not this is still a trophy.”

Opponants, fans or just casual observers can expect to see Marcos Barragán in goal behind a back four of, from right to left, new signing Andrés Manco (from Petro), Alejandro Morelli, Iván Aspas and young left back, and the boss’ nephew incidentally, Ricardo Durán recently promoted from the youth team. Guillermo Ríos will play the midfield anchor role allowing Roger Arribas and new boy Rubén Sáez to get forward to support another youth team product Ricardo Viegas (in the hole) and the front two of talented, if temperamental, Canderlarian Jason Federici and local lad Samuel Ballesteros.

The tournament will mark the first meeting between sides from Sargossa and Queer Poco as the Azul take on local champions the Pythons. They also face a tough task against Stoneridge Utd, representing newly crowned world champions and serial firers of interns Dancougar, also a first meeting, and Cafundéu’s América.

Its invitational, mainly to nations that are involved in Queer Poco's football (e.g. I have 3 of his players in my league).

Atlantas Klaipaada (often shortened to 'Atlantas') are going through a revival period after being taken over by the former owner of X-I. With huge amounts of money now at their disposal, they are looking to both show off their financial muscle and prepare for the next season of the Meistriliiga (top division in Somewhereistonia).

Despite what other teams may be doing, Atlantas will be taking this very seriously. With the signing of the highly rated (but untested) 16 year old Birsa for $11m, Adrian Case for a massive $24m, Daniel Costa Cassis for another $20m and several other signings, Atlantas have proved they are willing to do/pay anything to reach the top. So far over $70m have been spent by Atlantas in this transfer window.

The team will also use the competition to get the new manager Han Seonseok and the new and old players used to working together before the season starts, Atlantas will be hoping to hit the ground running.

Atlantas squad:

Results for the group stages are as follows -

Code: Select all
Group A

Pythons 0 - 1 Stoneridge United
Porto Alegro Azul 1 - 0 America

Stoneridge United 3 - 0 Porto Alegro Azul
Pythons 2 - 3 America

America 4 - 4 Stoneridge United
Pythons 2 - 1 Porto Alegro Azul

Group B

Royal Khaldoon 3 - 4 Albrecht Turkish
Atlantas Klaipaada 1 - 0 North Palmouth Tigers

Royal Khaldoon 1 - 1 Atlantas Klaipaada
Albrecht Turkish 1 - 0 North Palmouth Tigers

Royal Khaldoon 3 - 1 North Palmouth Tigers
Albrecht Turkish 0 - 4 Atlantas Klaipaada

With the results announced, the final group standings look a little something like this,

Group A
Code: Select all
Team                   P   W   L   D   Gdif   Pts
Stoneridge United      3   2   0   1    +4     7
America                3   1   1   1     0     4
Pythons                3   1   2   0    -1     3
Porto Alegro Azul      3   1   2   0    -3     3

Group B
Code: Select all
Team                   P   W   L   D   Gdif   Pts
Atlantas Klaipaada     3   2   0   1    +5     7
Albrecht Turkish       3   2   1   0    -2     6
Royal Khaldoon         3   1   1   1    +1     4
North Palmouth Tigers  3   0   3   0    -4     0

Stonerige United qualify top of group A and will play group B runners up Albrecht Turkish, similarly Atlantas Klaipaada will be taking on America in the second semi-final.

Code: Select all
Stoneridge United 5 - 0 Albrecht Turkish
America 1 - 3 Atlantas Klaipaada

And so it came to pass, the winners of the group stages overcame their semi-final opponents and would meet in the final.

Stoneridge United 2 - 4 Atlantas Klaipaada
Atlantas win! The inagural Prince's Shield competition ends in a 6 goal thriller and the team from Somewhereistonia take home the gold. Congratulations to Atlantas Klaipaada.

[Thank you for your patience and for participating, I promise the next installment will be better]
