The Football Association of Saugeais (association football)

All professional and semi-professional football clubs are members of the FAS. The FAS is responsible for maintaining the Saugeais national football team. They are also responsible for running all domestic leagues and competitions. With football being the most popular sport in the nation, many sports fans come out every week to show their support. The winners of the FAS Cup and the Premier League compete in the FAS Charity Shield the following year

Saugeais Baseball Organization

The SBO has been in development for quite some time now, since the Saugeais national team has been having huge international success. Most natural talent have been shipped across to other nations, but now with the arrival of a brand new domestic league, home grown talent will be able to star on their home soil. The SBO will begin as a 10 team league and will play an 81 game season, commencing from May to August, with playoffs taking place in September.

Premier Hockey League (ice hockey)

The Premier Hockey League (PHL) was set up due to the constant nagging of Cotdelapoms, but despite initial apathy the sport has started to gain ground in popularity as a result. The league system features two conferences of eight teams, with the two top placed teams in each conference going through to play in the playoffs to have the chance to be crowned the overall champions of the league, who take home the Stevens Cup, named after the founder of the PHL Gabriel Stevens.

Saugeain Football League (gridiron football)

While constantly being referred to as the "other football league", the SFL has steadily gained ground within the Saugeais community. With plenty of amateur teams formed around the country, the governing body decided to finally create a top-tier league filled with professionals. With 8 teams jumping from the semi-pro to the professional ranks, many around the country are eager to see with this new league will bring to the table, and also witness if it has the staying power to last.

United Rugby Federation (rugby league)

Not the most popular sport in the nation, rugby certainly has gathered a cult following among the citizens, with thousands flocking to the various stadiums to witness what many people have called "legalized beatings". Rugby League has been far and away the stronger of the two codes, with the national team sporting a better winning percentage and better placement in the World Cup. Sure the domestic league can only further the development of all those involved.

SRU Rugby Championship (rugby union)

Not the most popular sport in the nation, rugby certainly has gathered a cult following among the citizens, with thousands flocking to the various stadiums to witness what many people have called "legalized beatings". Rugby Union is slightly less prolific in the fan base, as the national team, while very good, hasn't equaled the success of their League counterparts. Hopefully the granting and development of a domestic union league will bolster productivity and achievement for future national teams.

A Quick Look at the Teams

The Saugeais Baseball Organization will begin operations with 10 teams scattered throughout the country. Each team will play each other in strictly 3-game serii; if the game must be called on in-climate weather, the teams must find the time to make it up with a double header, or they will have to abandon the game altogether. There will be a total of 81 games played, 3 3-game serii between every other team in the league, with the top 4 moving on to a playoff.

SBO Teams
Scouting reports from the spring camps have come in, and so far this is the skinny on what each team has in terms ability or disability.

Montbenoit Hawks - focused strictly on pitching

Bugny Fighters - all around play, not many strengths or weaknesses

Arçon Flyers - good bullpen and fast outfielders

Longview Mavericks - great fielding ability with above average hitting

Riverside Ducks - below average in all aspects

Gilley Kings - quick on the basepaths and the field

Metalton Robots - aggressive hitters; lazy pitching

Ville-DuPont Bulls - great overall hitting and pitching

Les Alliés Panthers - underachieving defense; pitching looks in top form to make up for it

Dudlek Bandits - strong defensively; overall needs more time in the batting cage

2017 preview

Not very many happenings going on during the offseason in the transfer window, as many teams have decided to opt into their academies and reserve squad. But one team has gone out of their way to take on some internationals: Arçon. Yes, the Archers have gone and gotten themselves a pair of prime defenders, adding Emmanuel Johnson from Taeshan and Sergey Marakov from Polar Islandstates to replace the retiring Sulonen and Berthelot. Johnson, who will start at the left back position during the upcoming year, is a lean, mean 25 year old who is also the most capped member of he national team. His international experience most certainly could aide the Archers in securing their first League title in 9 years. On the other end of the back line, Sergey Marakov takes over the role of primary header during corner kicks, being of fairly tall stature. Sergey is looking to rekindle his passion for the game after his former club disbanded, and Arçon wish that he can play as well as his old national team days.

The Charity Shield's tradition continues with Gilley FC once again making an appearance, being the League champion from last year. They are representing the Georgetown Lung Cancer Foundation, which as its name states is the primary research center for the cure for lung cancer in Saugeais. Their opponents in this match are the reigning FAS Cup winners, Dudlek FC, who will be playing for the Montbenoit School for the Deaf.

Not many clean sheets today, as only Donovan Francis from Gilley and Isaak Christinson of Arçon kept the nets cleared to day. With the way each team looks poised to score at any moment, I'm not expecting this to be the year of the keeper.

Daiki Ryota netted his first goal of the season for Bugny in their first win of the season. The youngster from Erathore was the Silver Ball recipient last year, and he needs to start netting those goals quickly if he wants to keep up with Studwick. So far, this the record number of clean sheets in a day, with 5 keepers not allowing any goals in a match.

Battle of the bottom feeders saw Walldrew achieve their first Premier League win of the season, taking out newly promoted Real Gilley. The Big Green were targeted for the drop just before the season began, and this win most certainly should help them on their way to staying up. Meanwhile, a fierce battle between rivals Bugny and Montbenoit ended in a 2-2 draw. Ryota netted the equalizer 2 minutes into stoppage time to squeeze out a point. Elsewhere, Pays de Croix finally gets a win over Royalwich, and those three points will help out in the long run as PDC are looking not to drop down this year.

The Bears keeper Mikelatz Elizalde was "completely clueless" as to where the balls came from, claiming "they came out of nowhere, from behind my defenders." The shots from Turlough Bailey and Abel Adam whistled by him, leaving the home crowd in a frenzy after scoring the huge upset. The other big story of the day was Longview manhandling Pays de Croix, with Dietmar Öztürk scoring a hat trick against the hapless PDC keeper.

And out of nowhere, Dan Nagato from Riverside against a Walldrew side that lost Luko Šimić for 8 weeks after a collision with a defender left him with a sprained ankle. Leandre Pahlke took home a pair of goals in his victory against Longview, keeping the Golden Ball selection close early on in the season.

2017 Part 3: Midseason transfer? Unheard of!

Yes, that title is no lie, some team actually went out to bolster their lineup during the midseason transfer window. With Walldrew barely hanging on to a Globe Cup spot and Luko Šimić still being hampered by the backlash of his injury, the Big Green have called upon the Taeshan's national team reserve striker Michael Cameron to lead the team to glory. Cameron was formerly contracted to Upper LaLard in ABK, who seemingly dominated the competition during his time there, leading the league in goals scored ever year. The celebration of his arrival at Walldrew will be short lived, as the Big Green need to begin practicing with their new teammate, teaching him the ins and outs of the system in hopes that he will lead Walldrew to a respectable finish.

2018 Preview

More players going out than coming in over the past off season, as two prominent national teamers Dan Nagato and Thomas Quentin both left their clubs to play over seas. Nagato, who help Riverside clinch the FAS Cup last season, signed a 3 year contract to play for Civil Citizenry's Sherwood club, and Quentin, formerly from League 1 Metalton, inked a two year contract with the DiKalbe Thunder Devils of Stachland. Also, some developmental players from Saugeais's under 21 squad have been transferred out of the country as well. 17 year old Alpha Randal, signed a long term deal with Mauves in Errikesh, while 18 year old François Rousseau has already made his mark with the Laketown Rangers of Taeshan, scoring 14 goals in 24 matches.

Only two foreign players have been signed to Saugeais clubs so far this season: 25 year old forward Andrey Csekov of Mytannion, who signed with Riverside to replace Dan Nagato, and Les Alliés signed elven player Beren Celebrindal, a 5,900 year old midfielder from Erathore who was named Player of the Year in their league. No doubt with Beren's talent and achievements, he will make the Titans the team to beat this coming year.
