The next Winter Olympics will be in January/February or thereabouts; the next summer Olympics will be next summer, though whether they will coincide with the RL Olympics has not been decided.

Sign ups are usually about a month before the official games. So you will probably see them in late December or January. And you do not make a speech in the sign up's of the Olympics, nor the Roster thread. You do that when the the RolePlaying thread is up, which you will see when it is posted. So please, anything that has to do with your nation regarding things like protesting, should go in the RP thread. :)

However there are the 1st 'World Games', involving various sports that aren't on the current Olympic programme, coming up fairly soon: Your nation could use those as a warm-up for the Olympics...

Official bid from Neverend, Liventia
VII Olympic Winter Games

Image

About the city
Neverend, Liventia, is one of the most northerly cities in The Heartland, thanks to Liventia's geographical position as the northern-most nation in the region. The city itself started off as a small ski resort town, but has gradually boomed over the years, and was declared to be a city by an act of Parliament in 2149. The new Kenneth G Hardweiss Neverend World Airport recently opened, sparing fans the need to fly into City Centre, but fans staying in the old capital will have a world-class underground tram system at their disposal in City Centre. There is also a train service from City Centre to Neverend which leaves every 14 minutes.

Neverend also hosted the first Winter World Paralympic Games, featuring 20 Paralympic committees, last year.

The city at a metropolitan area of 281 sq. km is the smallest city in the country. It has its own train and public bus system, which will be free to all ticketholders, athletes and officials during the Games. There are three major shopping centres in the city, two located within a 15-minute walk of the Athletes' Village. A whole host of nightclubs, bars and restaurants are also available in the city.

About the country
Liventia has strict laws when it comes to behaviour; rioting used to carry the death penalty until a moratorium on capital punishment was brought into effect in 2138. There is a widespread ban on outdoor public smoking and outdoor public drinking, which makes smoking and drinking in pubs and restaurants commonplace. Since the Greener Society won the most recent parliamentary elections, there is proposed legislation to ban all smoking outside of homes. In Neverend, there is a specific ban on smoking within 500 metres of an educational institution, and a ban on drinking within 1 km of one. Public alcoholism will result in prosecution. The drugs trade is banned, although casual use is not actively policed. The minimum age on smoking and drinking in the country is 15, although the Greener Society are pushing for an increase to 18 for drinking and 21 for smoking.

Laws on firearms possession are relaxed, although they were tightened following the murder of Prime Minister Danahue at his City Centre residence in 2148. The current prime minister is Anita Kumara, who was appointed prime minister after recent elections.

About the bid
The bid logo features the Olympic Symbol overlaid with a smaller version of itself in the alternating national colours of Liventia – yellow, blue, white and red. Five venues in Neverend, plus one in City Centre, will be used for the Games. The single venue in City Centre to be used will be the National Indoor Arena, home ice to the Liventian national ice hockey team, which will stage round-robin games in ice hockey. The opening and closing ceremonies will be held at the Stade Grande Olympique, a newly-built 94000-seater stadium specially for the Games. Stade Grande Olympique will also host the ice hockey gold medal finals for both women and men – in an Olympic first, the finals will be played outdoors. For the finals, Persplex boards will be erected from the running track backwards.

Bright New World, stadium designers wrote:(Image)
The design combines blue and red seating, with additional white elements, in keeping with the national flag of Liventia. The four-tier bowl is topped by a glass wall.
(Image)
VIP seating is provided in the third tier for the dignitaries and so on that will attend the Games.
(Image)
The roof is broken up at one end to make room for pillars, upon which the Olympic Flame can be placed.

Medal ceremonies in all events (except those at the Neverend Curling Club and the ice hockey events) will take place at the 76-hectare park known as the Neverend Wonder Garden, where temporary seating for 21,000 will be erected.

If successful, the Organising Committee will have both bandy and winter pentathlon contested as demonstration events; other demonstration events may be proposed.

Alpine skiing, biathlon, cross-country and freestyle skiing events will take place at the Neverend Ski Resort; curling, figure skating, short track and speed skating will take place at the Neverend Curling Club; bobsleigh, luge and skeleton will take place at the National Sled Centre (to be built if Neverend wins the bid); snowboarding will take place at a temporary indoor ice park to be built within the Neverend Wonder Garden; Nordic combined and ski jumping will take place at an extension of the Ski Resort which will be built if the bid is won; and ice hockey will take place at the Michael Harley National Indoor Arena in City Centre (men's round robin), the James Thornton Centre in Neverend (all playoffs except gold finals; women's round robin), and at the Stade Grande Olympique (men's and women's gold medal matches). Bandy would be played at the James Thornton Centre while winter pentathlon would take place at the respective venues for its component events.

The Games will tentatively take place over four weeks, from February 4 through March 3, with one daily scorination, currently estimated at around 1600 UTC.

The most up-to-date version of xkoranate at the time of the opening ceremony will be used. Each user may enter up to two* nations (clearly labelled as being controlled by the same user). Each nation may enter up to 200 entries; two nations by the same user may enter up to 350 entries in total. The average rating will be announced at a later time, but will be the exact mean of the minimum and maximum possible ratings. Unified teams (even where consisting of more than two nations) will be treated as two nations with a maximum limit of 350 entries.

*Note: All users may enter two delegations per the above restrictions, or three delegations where the first two delegations do not exceed 320 entries and the last does not exceed 10 entries. This departs from previous Olympics mandating each user only enter two nations. This is geared towards the PSC where ICly any of the smaller "associations" may wish to send athletes but is restricted, but will apply to all.

Alright - we have a host bid! Question time :D

Can a region participate, in addition to the nations, or will a region be counted as a puppet? I'm noticing my region's, (Slavija's,) rising interest in NS Sports, so I'm wondering if that would be possible. It would have athletes from at least 4 nations, and one of us will make a nation with a shared password - so that we can each RP as the region. Anyone from the region will be able to contribute athletes, so it won't be a puppet.

Additionally, the previous Winter Olympics, in 2010, had 86 events. The upcoming one in 2014 will have either 98 or 100 events. Which format will be used?

We've had combined teams before, so it shouldn't be that big of a problem, from my POV; but I'll leave it up to the bidders to announce if they will or not.

This would be a first. I am inclined to say that if I win the vote, each user taking part would not be able to enter more than 350 entries total (region + any other delegation), and the regional team itself not be made up of more than 350 entries.

Additionally, the previous Winter Olympics, in 2010, had 86 events. The upcoming one in 2014 will have either 98 or 100 events. Which format will be used?

This will be determined at a later time, depending on the official NationStates Olympic Games base sports list at the time of the host vote.
