Meghan’s Space

So what’s up all to all the wonderful readers out there?! Are you ready for some hockey? I certainly hope so because I know for a fact that all of us are eager to prove that we can get back on top of the hockey world. We had our first team gathering after we all arrived here in Plutoni from our various origin points over the last few days. It was pretty fun to see everyone again, and know that once again you have the opportunity to play alongside the very people you play against over the course of the grueling season at home. Plutoni is certainly a place that will take some getting used too, but as long as these robots don’t make us play with a glowing puck, I think we’ll be alright.

One of the first orders of business at our team meeting yesterday was to name our captain and alternates, and it comes as no surprise that we are making no changes to who wears those coveted letters over their hearts. For me, the “C” is stitched to my jersey for the second time, and it is an honor. I take a lot of pride in this, and I like to think it is given to me for more then my ability to score goals. I try, very hard, to be a leader, even though there have been things written about me that I can be too distracted by the social scene. I’ve done the fashion runway walks in Quintessence of Dust, which was a thrill, but I don’t think I am going to be asked to do any modeling in Plutoni unless they really think the latest computer chip technology needs a Cassadagan spokesperson. In which case, I would be willing to do that as long as the proper data is processed into my bank account. The biggest announcement that surprised some is that Stacie Dupree will start in goal over Christina Randolph. Isn’t that only natural in hockey though? When a coach a switches a forward or a defensemen around in a line shuffle, it might be briefly talked about in the media and in the locker room but in the end it is only a very minor story. But not the goalie. You change the goalie and its, “OMG HOW COULD YOU CHANGE THE GOALIE!!????!!” (usually with an expletive included before the word goalie) That gets the pundits something to talk about, and it’s supposed to create some kind of controversy and it can tear apart the very fabric of the team at its seams. So when that announcement was made, it caused a whole lot of fighting, quarreling, and now there are two distinct sides in the locker room, one pro-Dupree and one pro-Randoph and now we won’t even sit at the same table in the hotel during continental breakfast!?! Or, maybe not. Actually, we applauded for Stacie. We have seen her play at home and now she’s been unstoppable for the last two years. Sure, Christina would like to play but she is aware that it is in the best interest of the team.

Ok, so I guess that makes us all one big happy hockey family. Someone light the campfire, though I’m not gonna be the one singing. Our schedule is short, no double round robins this time around, just six games in the land of the machine. There are seven matchdays, and we each have six games, so there is a bye day. As is international law, when there are bye days in a tournamenet in which Cassadaigua is participating, Cassadaigua has its bye day in matchday one.... or do we?! They forgot that law in Plutoni! I guess these hosts really are different! We get started right away against Tonarius.

Don’t ask me, I don’t know where it is, either.

A mostly anti-climatic group draw and a group of mostly unknown nations greets Sarzonia's World Cup of Hockey XVI aspirations. However, one notable exception drew reaction from several Stars players.

Kelssek.

"They're a team that has a legitimate chance to lift a World Cup every time out," said coach Mark Browers. "If there's a more difficult way to start a World Cup qualifying campaign, I can't think of one."

The Stars are still picking up the pieces from a WCoH XIV during which the Incorporated Sarzonian Government barred them from competing because They Who Shall Not Be Named were the event's hosts. Sarzonia's refusal to send a team was preceded by Virabia's and Cabric's withdrawals, both of which resulted in controversy among the world's sporting nations.

However, Sarzonia's decision was mostly met with shrugs.

"The enmity between us and They Who Shall Not Be Named is well documented," said left wing Sylvan Turcotte. "I don't think there was any way that we lift our prohibition about going there."

Of course, goalie Matt Peterson was even more direct.

"Their organisers are lying sacks of shit," he said. "Their nation is a cess pool of smarmy assholes. If any Sarzonian goes there, they deserve to be locked up in a 2-by-4 cell of nothing but dogshit."

When asked about opening the current World Cup against Kelssek, Peterson's directness took a different tone.

"You couldn't ask for a more difficult opener," he said. "Unless we were playing Plutoni in their national rink. "I'm definitely going to be ready for [second line forward Gary Bavarillo]. He's going to try to get in my head. It's my job to keep him out of there."

As for Kelssek starting goalie Jean-Claude Gorges, Sarzonia's first line right winger Steven Miller said the team was already preparing for his attempts to challenge Stars forwards.

"We know he likes to challenge shooters," Miller said. "We've got a few ideas to kind of make him pay for that."

Chetkoski National Ice Hockey Squad

Description: The Chetkosk ice hockey scene is one that has only recently come to the fore in the public eye. The largest and best publicised ice hockey league in the nation is the University League (I'da Hokkyei Universitet Liga) run by the Varsity Federation (Varsityi Federatsii), and as such the vast majority of the players in the national squad are studying at one of Chetkosk's many higher education institutes. Most are undergraduates, although some are postgraduates and a few are now alumni (although this doesn't allow them to compete in the league, they are still eligible for a place on the national squad).

The Narwhals are a side that relentlessly rehearse defence techniques because the manager takes pride in the many styles of zone trap they use, and as such the Narwhals play in a tight defensive style until the perfect conditions for scoring are achieved through fine tactical appraisal. Following their defeat in the first knockout round of the 15th World Cup of Hockey, Chetkosk are hoping to at least make it one round further, as to do so with such a young team would be admirable. The captain, Arkady Koyotei, is the top goalscorer.

It's World Cup time, and that means it's time for all Cotdelapomais citizens to stop worrying about small matters such as the economy, politics, what to eat for dinner, how to do their jobs, who to love and why, whether or not to pick up their kids from school, et cetera- the World Cup of Hockey is here, and there's unprecedented pressure on Guy Lemaire to lead his squad to victory after their disappointing fourth place finish and shameful loss to Gyatso-kai at Stade de Cotdelapoms in front of 85,000 people today, and likely over a million ten years from now, depending on who you ask.

Every World Cup we get a surge of international readers, so for those of you for whom this is your first taste of Cotdelapomais hockey, here are some important facts to remember:

Being head coach of Cotdelapoms' national hockey team is more stressful than being Prime Minister.- This is a fact. Jean-Pierre Dandenault, our Prime Minister (and a known hockey historian!) has stated only half-jokingly that he would never want the job for the stress. On one popular Cotdelapomais micro-blogging website, anti-Lemaire sentiment during the World Cup (or Olympics) is as common in one day as anti-Dandenault sentiment is in a month. And Dandenault doesn't even lead a majority government. And Lemaire has been the most successful coach of the post-isolation era. You do the math!

We are serious about this stuff.- Most Cotdelapomais(e) play hockey as children, and television ratings and popularity for the CHL is more popular than the Potazzi Série A, which you are likely familiar with. When Cotdelapoms got to the second round of the football World Cup, the world's most popular sporting event, it drew television ratings equivalent to 62% of viewers in Cotdelapoms were watching it. When Cotdelapoms played Greater Cotswalds in the first round of the last World Cup of Hockey, the ratings were equal to 70% of Cotdelapomais TV viewers. The third-place game against Gyatso-kai at Stade de Cotdelapoms had TV ratings equal to about 88% of Cotdelapomais TV viewers. 88%. There is no city with both a Série A football club and a CHL hockey team where the football club is more popular. In Montréal, the cultural capital of hockey, their local team is champion of both leagues, and the Cotdelapomais (the hockey team) has almost twice as many fans- and has to compete with another team in Montréal, the Royals!

Hockey in Cotdelapoms has fan support that looks like football support everywhere else in the world, with big tifosi displays and designated sections for away fans at every arena that are always full, even on weekdays. It's also so popular that the phrase "World Cup" implies this event, despite the football World Cup being far and away the biggest sporting event in the world.

No matter what, Julien Champagne will never be a hero.- The man has won two Dumas Cups for Cotdelapoms' most beloved (and hated) club at the age of 20, and yet the media all over still hound him. He's scored goals from his knees, behind his back, through his legs, every which way, and he's still a pariah. Don't try to figure it out. You'll all hate him too after he torches your nation in this tournament, just trust us.

We hate the Mytanars- But you knew that. And they have nothing on us here.

Benoît Cohen is the controversial figure on the team this time around.- Last time it was Adam Wrentham, who was not brought back for this year's team after two lacklustre post-contract year seasons for the PBI Pirates, this time it's young Benoît Cohen, who people seem to love because he just looks like a hockey player. He's good, he's big, he's strong, he can score goals and push people around, but not at a high enough level to be a top 6 player for the Apples, yet here he is. The idea is that he fits the strategy that Guy Lemaire is trying to put together. And yet you wonder why people are always on his case...

When the puck drops in the crazy robot land against Mohawk Clans, Cotdelapomais from coast to coast to coast will be glued to their televisions if they are not in Plutoni (rumour has it that once again we have the largest contingency of traveling fans) and if you happen to be in Montréal, or Albionpool, or Worcester, or Île d'Elisabeth, or Outremont whilst a game is going on involving Cotdelapoms (or Mytannion!), just stand outside and listen, and you'll be able to tell roughly what happened without needing a TV screen. Just trust me.

The Day Before The Battle: An In-Depth View

From the Republic Associated Times, 2011.2.10.01

EDITOR's NOTE: This is the first part of a multi-part series written by Bao Lin, former right-wing of the Keldabe Strills who in his first year of retirement, has grown restless and was hired by RATimes to travel with the tenth-ranked in the world Ice Bisons on their return to the World Cup.

As required, the views expressed in these segments are NOT the views of RATimes, its editor, Board of Directors, the CEO and/or its affiliates. These views are those of Bao Lin and his alone.

Where do I start?

The plane ride here took FOREVER! I mean, it took so long I fell asleep and woke twice while in the air and, if you can imagine it, got a full nights rest. I wasn't even awake when we landed to re-fuel...

Nonetheless...

Today I had the pleasure of watching the first practice for the Ice Bisons since they arrived in Plutoni three days ago. I have to hand it to our men, for they have managed to handle the jet lag quite well with just three days of R&R; the team I saw out there on the ice certainly looked fresh and clean, as compared to the team I saw board the plane earlier this week. With heads held high in the locker room, it was surprisingly quiet for such a terse moment; when the reality of the World Cup would be settling into the player's minds, no one knew. Instead, what I saw was an eerie reflection of a post-match return to the sanctum of the locker room. To seek solitude before the barrage of questions and assault of the media took place.

The practice went very smooth, with the new lines coming together nicely on various points. Of note was Sato Sorua, who on his first shift in Plutoni with the first line was able to keep pace with Pakku Ito; nine years his senior, Ito was able to perform just as well on the Agility Course set-up used by Head Coach Kad Skirata during warm-ups, though on the back-to-back side-steps, Ito stumbled only slightly. A sign of old age? Or just different ice?

After all... this whole place is overrun with robots! The ice is mathematically perfectly composed and perfectly applied by the perfectly designed and calibrated hands of a perfectly designed and functioning machine...

In addition to Sato, another aspect which caught my eye was the return of the First Line --- Ngo Du, Hakoda Ishii and Kuruk Ikeda. While Ikeda and Ishii have remained close since WCoH15, Ngo was whisked away to Cotdelpoms and upon his return, the ice has already begun to set hard: A member of the Foggy Swamp Tribes, Ngo has little experience in speaking Mando'a, a language Ishii and Ikeda both use extensively in their lives on the Mandalorian borderlands and have taken to using exclusively on the ice. This almost-childlike behaviour of secluding Ngo from the game as started to have an effect on team morale, with players on both sides of the locker room choosing sides...

It is an issue that is hard to explain to non-Avatarians, but one so many of us understand without even a moment's hesitation. To many of the players, those few who went off to Cotdelapoms to join the famed Cotedelapoms Hockey League (CHL) are seen as 'traitors to the Avatar' for leaving Gyatso-kai (and their teams) for personal advancement. The whole of Avatarian society is more centred along the mantra "For the needs of the many, the few must suffer": By going off to the CHL, the five men all gave their teams back in the AHL the 'cold shoulder' and went off to 'better themselves'.

What issues this will cause at home will be a huge determining factor in the team's performance...

"Thank you for tuning in! We have a very special program for you tonight! First, a brief panel discussion with three famed Shofercians, about our hockey team. Next, the Sunday group prediction game! Finally, a look at how Shofercian fans are spending their time in Plutoni, while preparing to cheer for our favorite team - the Shofercian Eagles!"

"We have a panel of three superb Shofercians: Olympic Champion and Special Forces General Caitlin Damage, Olympic Champion and extreme sports athlete Ivan Beerkin and Shofercia's representative to the Pan Slavic Union State, Yaroslav Vasilievsky. Team Shofercia is currently ranked sixth in the International Hockey Standings, but only made the top eight once, in the Fourteenth World Cup of Hockey. Does the team deserve the standing? Additionally, the Eagles' record is 21-8-3 in the round robin stage, and becomes 18-4-0 if one discounts our first World Cup of Hockey, but it's 2-5-0 in the playoff stage. Why the discrepancy?"

Caitlin: "Well since the boys are being gentlemen, or just afraid of my shooting skills, I'll go first. We absolutely deserve to be where we're at. Ever since we started competing, we haven't missed a single World Cup of Hockey, and that tends to benefit us in the standings. As for the discrepancy, we just need to get our shit together when it's playoff time. We can't treat the playoffs like the round robin stage. We need Stolichnuy in the pipes for the playoffs, and we need to go all the way. If we believe that we can win the playoffs - we can win the playoffs. Otherwise, we will continue playing the way we play. Merely winning the round robin stage is no longer enough."

Yaroslav: "I'm personally terrified of Cait's shooting abilities. Serving under her was not fun. And if we were to make Air Hockey and Olympic event, I would definitely compete in it! Do we deserve to be sixth? Absolutely! It is a very hard privilege to earn. We earned it. As for the discrepancy, shit happens. I think we'll do better this year. I know we can! Go Eagles!"

Ivan: "I believe we deserve to be sixth, and that we can go all the way, but I disagree with Cait. I think we need to play in the playoffs, just as we play in the round robin - we need to play to have fun, and then the wins will come. You have to be yourself, and you have to have a blast. You should practice hard, know every pass and every shot, but once you're in the game, just have fun. And be rested. So if you want Stolichnuy in the pipes, play Aleksandrov and Catnip equally, in the round robin stage, so that Stolichnuy had his warm up games, but is nice and rested for the playoffs. Although I think you guys are vastly underestimating Catnip."

Host: "It's ultimately up to Coach Uriev to decide how to play the team, and I want to thank you all for taking the time to join us. We will see if he takes our advice, or not. The tournament starts on Sunday, and the panel will be with us, to discuss how it is played. What are you guys going to do once the panel adjourns?"

Caitlin: "Check out the training camp, and then it's back to my duties. Some of which are classified."

Yaroslav: "Visit our Diplomatic University, then the Shofercian Academy of Foreign Affairs, take a vacation in the Kwanoan Isles, where we held out first summit, and then back to the grind, trying to prevent warfare."

Ivan: "Looking at you guys, I ain't jealous. For me it's a short family vacation in a resort, and then back to practicing on the hill."

Host: "Thank you again. We just got word that Coach Uriev will start Basil Catnip in the pipes for the first game! Coming up is The Predictor, so stay with us!"

Do you want to ski and surf on the same day? Then Shofercian Tourism is for you! We have amazing airfare rates and great service, for a very reasonable price! We are the highest ranked tourism sights in Slavija, and in the top 5% of Tourism sights in the World! Imagine letting the beautiful rays of the sunrise wake you; half an hour later you're geared up, standing at the top of the mountain, waiting to begin your decent. You make your way down, letting the wind ruffle your hair, as you're watching snowboarders fly into trees.

It's noon. Time for lunch. Feast your eyes, and belly, on our fine selection of meats. We even have Bambi, erm, venison, who wrote this script? Oh crap, still live.

After a delicious dinner, and mouth watering desert selection, with Napoleon, Chocolate Mousse, Tiramisu, Lemon Pie and everything in between, it's time to catch a train to the beach. The train cabins have beds and restrooms, everything you need to reset yourself for surfing. After a two hour ride, you're ready to hit the beach, just when the waves are at their best. Can you hang ten?

After the surf's up, why not join us at the beach for a dance, as the sun sets over the water, and then enjoy a cultural dance show. You can even dance, in certain spots, or karaoke, right after you had quite a bit of Mai Tai. And then you can catch our train - which will take you right back to your hotel. They are very safe, and run all night!

So what are you waiting for? Find out why Shofercian Tourism has the respect it deserves! Call 1-800-TourSho now!

"And we're back! I promise you, Bambi wasn't harmed in the making of that commercial. And, as you might have guessed, Shofercians are master pranksters. Alright, let's take a look at our group, and predict what the outcome of the matches will be; of course we are always going to predict that Shofercia will win, *knock on wood* so let's take a look at the other matches:

Civil Citizenry and Mangolan will be a tough match, with Mangolana winning, quite possibly in overtime. Kulverint v Savski Venac will be another tough match, with Savski Venac pulling off the victory. And now, let's take a look at how Shofercian fans are spending their time in Plutoni! Lara the Roving, and sometimes drunk, reporter - has the scoop!"

"That's harsh for you to say! I am not drunk! I haven't been drunk on the job since I was almost fired for that! Don't argue with a buzzed woman! Duh!"

"Lara - how are Shofercian fans spending their time in Plutoni?"
"Most Shofercian fans were amazed about the efficiency of the airports in Plutoni. No checks of any kind, once you're off, you're off. They didn't even look at my passport, I just inserted it in some kind of weird electronic thing, and it passed. We're having a lot of fun. Never seen a robot bartender before!"
"What kind of beer does the bartender serve?"
"All kinds. There's the classic type, like 1776, and then there's the futurstics type, like Plutoni's Energetico!"
"Are you sure that's beer?"
"Well I drank a lot of it - so it's beer!"
"Anything interesting in Plutoni?"
"Yeah, they have smart toasters. But I was more fascinated by the smart hotel room that I'm staying it. Everything I need just pops out of walls! We also heard a lot of exburb jokes, like: how does a broken robot burp? Like an exburb resident! But in some ways Plutoni is similar to Shofercia - I loved their wildlife preserves, and the education system is very unique - it's Libertarian, yet it seems to work."
"A working Libertarian Education System? How much Energetico did you have?"
"I'm not kidding. Send someone from the SAE* to check it out!"
"I would, if it was up to me. Definitely sounds worth it! Got anymore exburb jokes?"
"Sure: what happened to an ex-burb robot when he got into the academy? The robot couldn't ex-cell."
"Lara, I have a special mission. Go to Plutoni Games, and find out why they're winning!"
"On it boss!"

"And that's all we have for today. Catch us on Sunday - right after the game!"

Game 1: THRILLEDGE 1 - 0 Gyatso-kai

Postby Gyatso-kai » Sun Oct 02, 2011 9:11 pm

First Game FAILURE! Republic Losses on the First Night.

From the Republic Associated Times, 2011.2.10.02

After a dedicated day of practice after resting from the long trip, the Republic Ice Bisons could not catch a break in today's match, falling 1-0 to the THRILLEDGE Dreadlocks by a late 3rd Period Goal on the power play.

"The cards just were not in our favour," spoke Head Coach Kad Skirata after the game in one of his first Tournament Press Conference. "We still haven't worked out some key issues on the ice, but with a good night's practice, we can get ourselves in gear."

'Key issues on the ice' may in fact be pointing to the drama on the First Line, which boiled down today to the point of comments and slurs being tossed around against right-wing Ngo Du; having left the AHL for Cotedelapoms, he has yet to rekindle his relationships with Hakoda Ishii and Kuruk Ikeda, both of whom refuse to be 'civil'.

"There is nothing to talk about," spoke Ngo in his post-game interview. "We are just trying to get back together and play as one. The AHL Season was hard on the players and as such, tempers flare when fatigue sets in." While we cannot be certain of the honesty of Ngo's statements, when we asked Ishii or Ikeda for interviews, both of them shouted "Slana'pir" which we most certainly will not translate here... Drama indeed.

What we saw tonight was a truck with a loose wheel; three tires pulling the weight of the vehicle, but the fourth tire just dragging in the snow: While Shu Huanguo, Ikeda, Ishii and Pakku Ito were all on top form, Ngo could not get into the groove of the game. He struggled switching directions in what was final moment of the game; on the third power play of the night, Ngo was the only defenceman on THRILLEDE's own Patrick Finn as the two raced up the ice...however, when Finn turned sharply to the left into the open ice, Ngo misread the direction and he veered off into the boards. All it took was another second for Finn to slapshot the puck straight over Shu's shoulder.

The Ice Bisons would spend the next six minutes feverishly fighting to win a goal to force an overtime... but to no avail...

Tomorrow, the Ice Bisons --- now fourth in Group Six --- will face-off against the Tonarius' team in the first home game of the group stage. Coming into the tournament ranked tenth worldwide seems to have brought no benefit to the Ice Bisons in their first match against unranked THRILLEDGE and with tomorrow's opponent also being unranked, one must wonder upon the accuracy of these ranks.

A 3-1 win over a very game Severna Crvena Zvezda squad sees Qazox off to a fast start at the 16th World cup of Hockey. Goals from Craig Merrick and Danelle Royal in the 1st period, just 53 seconds apart was enough to give all the momentum to Qazox. SCZ's Mihajlo Terzic did make it 2-1 early in the 3rd on the powerplay, but Nicole Amberton slammed home an empty-net goal with 14 seconds left to ensure the victory. Up next for Qazox are Lorieen, after an off day tommorrow.

Meghan’s Space

Good morning once again to all of my fine readers. Following our morning skate and before the game against Tonarius, I was reading some email that came in from some of our great fans, such as Bridgette from Rutland who asked me, “As a blogger, you are probably very computer literate, so when you have your matchday one bye day, will you be interested in checking out all the modern computer technology that exists in Plutoni? Go Dagans!” Well, Bridget is a good fan as you can tell by her knowledge of international law that Cassadaigua is supposed to have a bye day on matchday one, but as for the rest of that I just have to say no. Just because I am blogging for the team does not mean I am very computer literate. I can do basic stuff, and maybe a teeny bit of advanced stuff, but that is definitely where it ends!!! On the blog, I will also get mails from foreigners such as this one from someone, probably from Carasatoga who seemed bothered that I failed to give them credit for having a matchday one bye day, “Why do you say its international law? And you’re team sucks at volleyball!” When we say it’s international law, it’s meant as a joke because it we pretty much always have a matchday one bye day! Then, in another comment, someone from Tonarius apparently read my blog and proceeded to lecture me about where the country is, and that we should pay them more respect. Blah blah blah is what I say. I’m a hockey player not a geographer.

Then after the game, Cynthia from Concord Village asked me, “If you were more ready to play on matchday one and didn’t automatically assume that you were gonna have a bye day, do you think you could have won this game in a more comfortable manner? You only beat them by one! I shouldn’t be having a heart attack watching you against Stoned-arius (her typo, not mine)” Such a hypothetical question, and it doesn’t really matter. Do people look back at World Cup 54 for example, and ask, “Do you still think Aguazul would have won that World Cup if there was a conventional qualifying system and not the two-tiered bit?” No, because it’s a moot point, because it was a two tiered set-up. Would we have won this game in a more lopsided manner if the innocent dump in by a Tonarius player at 4:21 of the first period didn’t awkwardly deflect off the back of Sammi’s (defensemen Samantha Preston) skate and into the net, making us have to play from behind early? That was a tough pill to swallow though, as we quickly took a 6-0 shot advantage before that and right away, they get a goal. It took us out of our game a bit, and after a couple of sloppy penalties, we would have been down at first intermission if we didn’t get a goal from the fourth line at 18:36. Natalie Conroy’s goal was pretty important just for the simple fact of getting us back in it. We outshot them 12-8 for the first period, but our 3 penalties were not like us.

I’m not really sure if the ref had it in for us there for a little while, but even in the second period, we didn’t get going as well as we would have liked. They pulled ahead on the shots board briefly, at 14-13, and we seemed ripe for the upset. People might say that I should have done more as the captain to prove a spark for this team, but I really think that I did all that I could. That spark though came at 12:06 of the period as Byron Washington dropped the gloves and manhandled a Tonarius player. (Manhandled in my opinion, of course), and our bench started to become more energized, and at 16:19, Megan Sommerville gave us the lead. It was a lead that we would not reliquish, and at 5:11 of the 3rd we went up by two as Rachel Cooke scored on the power play. From there, we seemed to be gaining control of the game, but a Tonarius goal at 19:02 did make for an interesting final minute.

In the end, we won. Outshooting them 28-25 for the game. We were 1-for-3 on the PP, and credit our PK for killing all five of their PP’s. Now, we get our bye day, a matchday late, before taking on Gyatso-kai, and hoping that they will play a cleaner game against us then they did last time. I’m sure they’re not worried about us yet; having lost to Thrilledge in their opener. If you wondered, “hey, wasn’t Thrilledge one of those teams in our World Baseball Classic 19 qualifying group?” you have a pretty good memory.

That will do it for now!

Poor Ice Conditions, Feisty Upstars, Just About Everything Other Than Team Performance Keeps Cotdelapoms From Winning Big Cotdelapoms' Save Their Energy For Round Two

Cotdelapoms' World Cup 16 debut came against feisty upstarts Minecraft WB, a nation with a peculiar name, seemingly no character, and a propensity for sitting back and defending. Impartial observers would likely say that the Apples' didn't exactly play up to their usual high standards- their passing was not as crisp as usual, and they were unusually impotent on their power play. Whilst they were defensively excellent, using the body to block shots, hit and were sublime on the penalty kill- they didn't seem to get much working against these Minecraft people.

As partial observers prone to making up countless excuses for the failures of the Oak Leafs and the Apples, however, here are a list of reasons why the Apples only managed to earn a 1-0 victory over these nameless wonders who we will almost certainly never hear from again:

Poor ice conditions!- Many would say that a top flight team like Cotdelapoms should be able to compete well in such situations- great players are great players regardless of the situations. We all know, though, that we as a people have a hard time dealing with change and are so delicate that having to play on sub-standard ice is precisely the sort of thing that will turn them into incompetent wrecks.

Playing a team that had nothing to lose- This Minecraft WB team will almost certainly never compete in another World Cup. Nobody knows who they are and they have a seemingly nameless, characterless squad. They didn't do much to pester Pascal Sévigny, launching only 13 shots, and only one real chance, when their energy line centre got off on a breakaway from an excellent lead pass, but Sévigny had no trouble, because he is obviously a superhuman. Given all this, though, it didn't matter much that Minecraft WB just stuck back and defended all game, spending most of their team giving up their body to block Cotdelapomais shots and generally roughing up some of our daintier players. Some of this ceded once the Apples scored a goal and Alexandre Briére decided to come forward and protect his stars.

Plutoni- This is a seriously peculiar city-state. For one, we're all a little weirded out by the robots. There's lots of them everywhere, and they behave like humans. We knew about this from their previous World Cup success, but actually being here and seeing normal robot-people is a little messed up. I'm sure this has had an impact on the psyches of guys like Jérôme Cyr. There's also nothing being taxed around here, which is quite strange and uncommon for us- we don't know what to do with all our cash!

The fact that we are saving ourselves for the real competition- Oh yeah. This. Let's go with this as our official party line. No point in wasting our energy for these nameless teams, we have a real chance of having to play Shofercia or Civil Citizenry next. Let's go with that.

Hockey fans all over the country are scratching their heads after numerous members of the national team were issued reprimands from their club teams for not showing up to practice, due to the fact that they were in Plutoni playing in the World Cup, where a scrambled goal by Gary Bavarillo gave Kelssek the edge in a close contest against Sarzonia that finished 1-0.

"I know KHL executives tend to have their heads up their asses and spend hours figuring out how to open pucks, but this really is stupid." said one member of the Angry Hockey Supporters' Coalition.

Meanwhile national team assistant coach Luke Jorritt expressed frustration with how their hotel, despite boasting "human-friendly" facilities, had remarkably overlooked many amenities non-robotic guests have come to expect, such as toilets.

"The room numbers being in binary could be seen as a pretty charming touch, but we really need to find accommodations which are more attentive to the needs of non-robots," he said. Jorritt did admit the efforts by the staff to recognise the needs of biological lifeforms were appreciated. "Also, the water pressure in the showers is very good."

Thatius National Broadcasting Center (TNBC)
11:00 Thatius Time

Good evening, and welcome to the Thatius National Broadcasting Center. I'm your host, Ed Valentino.

Let's start with Ice Hockey first. Today marks the first day the national team of Thatius has participated in the World Cup of Ice Hockey. A month ago, a junior team was sent for the Junior World Cup, in which they did fairly well. But today's result was the prettiest. The Icehawks lost one to two today against Bergnovinaia. At first, the Icehawks led 1-0 with a goal by Left Wing Aleksy Knežević. But the Bergnovinaians came back to score two goals in a row, one within the last six minutes of the game. An understandable loss, but a loss nonetheless. Sarah Trinity caught up with head coach Thomas Valenti afterwards:

ST: "Coach Valenti, this loss was the first one for the team. Why do you think they didn't perform up to standard?"

TV: "Well Sarah, first of all, the Bergnovinaian team played pretty well. We expected that the match would be pretty level, and it was. We just didn't have that luck needed to score that one extra goal, and Bergnovinaia managed a solid performance. Just that one ingredient was missing to reach the next level."

ST: "So what will you do to prepare for your next match against THRILLEDGE, who beat Gyatso-Kai today as well?"

TV: "Well we don't really know much about THRILLEDGE, as I believe it is the first time they have participated in the World Cup of Ice Hockey, and it is ours. Perhaps we'll review their matchup against Gyatso-Kai, and see their strengths and weaknesses. But what we're going to do nonetheless is play some good offense. I think Knežević did well in scoring our only goal, and so did Cerisier, so I expect them to keep up their game."

ST: "Alright, thanks coach. Good look in your next match."

TV: "Thank you."

ST: "Alright, back to you Ed."

"Thank you Sarah. And now we turn to the world of tennis...."

On Qazox' off day, Coach Ryan Driesberg had the team participate in a full-contact scrimmage that lasted about 45 minutes. After the scrimmage, the media asked Coach Driesberg the reasoning behind using a rare off day to have a full-contact scrimmage:

Why? Beacuse this team became soft in the knockout round last time. We dominated our group, but struggled when it mattered most. I want this team to be dominant from start to finish. It's the only way we can beat those robots from Plutoni. We can't beat them phsyically but we can outwork them. That's what it will take. A team playing on all cylinders and unafraid of them will beat Plutoni. We're not afraid of them, but we need to get skating, hitting and playing on all cylinders. This scrimmage will help us do that.

While many still think wasting an off day by having a full scrimmage will be counter-productive, perhaps Coach Driesberg has a point. To beat Plutoni, perhaps you have to become Plutoni, machine-like and effecient.

Game 2: Gyatso-kai 1 - 1 Tonarius

Postby Gyatso-kai » Mon Oct 03, 2011 11:40 pm

One Step at a Time: Ice Bisons TIE Tonarius.

From the Republic Associated Times, 2011.2.10.03

Following the 1-nil loss to THRILLEDGE yesterday, the Ice Bisons pulled off a 1-ALL tie tonight against the Tonarius *smudge*, falling yet again to an unranked team.

"The issues are still not resolved," spoke Head Coach Kad Skirata. "Other than the problems on our first line, the team is doing well... We just cannot seem to get a break."

Getting a break indeed: After giving up an early first period goal from Tonarius centre *smudge smudge*, the Ice Bisons would struggle the remaining two periods before gaining some ground. The offensive pair of Ngo Du, Hakoda Ishii and Kuruk Ikeda have yet to re-capture the lightning which lead to the stunning performances seen last year in Cotdelapoms during the final matches of the Group Stage in World Cup of Hockey XV. For reasons known, it just seems Ngo is not able to ammend the damage to his relationship with the team and now, it is having dire consequences.

The question remains what will Skirata do about this? Obviously, the biggest game of the group stage is tomorrow, when the Ice Bisons face off against the Cassadaigua squad, who return with many of the same players the Ice Bisons faced off against last World Cup. Skirata and the team have been essentially mute on the subject, with many feeling that this rematch may bring up festering spirits, however, our inside reporter Bao Lin had this to say:

The men of the Ice Bisons have been relatively quiet on the game tomorrow, with many staying late tonight in the locker room to go over game plans. Most of the focus was on dealing with (Ngo) but how is unsure. I overheard Kad'buir talking with his staff about line changes, though this early in the series it is a little awkward...

But just the fact the two stars on the first line and their defencemen cannot stand (Ngo) leads me to believe he will likely not be getting any playing time until these issues are sorted...

Bao Lin, RATimes.com Sports Writer, On-Tour with the Ice Bisons

All we know is that we are sure to be expecting a pre-game announcement from Kad'buir in regards to various issues with the team. Tomorrow, our beloved Ice Bisons face-off against the She-Beast of Cassadaigua in what is set to be the most difficult game of the series for the Ice Bisons; not to mention it is set to be a home game for the Cassadaiguan team. However, given today's near-packing of the Plutoni's modest *smudge* Arena by our 'Boisterous Bisons!' fan entourage, once can be certain there will be a fair share of red, white and black amongst the pink.

Benoît Cohen Scores Two, Including Game Winner Against Darmen- Still a Bum

Let's face it, coming into this World Cup, pomhommes from coast to coast to coast were united in one thought- Benoît Cohen doesn't deserve second line minutes, nor does he deserve to make the team at all, or perhaps even to breathe the air that we all breathe, such is his low standing on earth. Let's face it, the guy is trash. Sure, he may have scored 23 goals in the CHL for Rouen last year, and maybe he's young and smart and big and precisely the type of player that fits into the system Guy Lemaire has set up, but damnit, he's awful and we all hate him!

This is what makes it all the more infuriating when he scores a fantastic redirect goal at the beginning of the third period to completely take the wind out of the sails of a surprisingly decent Darmen team that were neck and neck with us for two periods. He then scored again just 4 minutes later on an excellent piece of hard work, taking a Vlemincx pass from behind the net and blasting a wrister right at Peter Roloson that was too hard to hold on to and then tapping in the rebound to put the Apples up 4-2. Darmen may have scored once more, but either way, it was Cohen's hard work that won the game.

The question now becomes what the narrative is: will Cohen have redeemed himself and now earn a lot of positive hyperbolic statements based on this one good World Cup game, even if he never performs well again? Will he perform well the rest of the tournament (*cough*as expected because he's really a good player*cough*) and the media will find a new whipping boy? Will the narrative be that the Apples performed well in spite of Cohen's two goals and that the real hard work was done by Pierre Drouin (0 goals, 1 shot, -1) or Pascal Sévigny? Guy Lemaire's coaching hasn't been spectacular, but the Apples are unbeaten without putting up much of a sweat, even with having played a decent Darmen team- will he get any credit?

The answer to all of those questions is...hey, have you noticed that Rezzi Tzar’kr’El kind of plays like an arrogant jerk? YEAH!

THRILLEDGE Ties Thatius 0-0 To Take Sole Possession of First Place in Group Six

Following a 1-0 win over heavy favorite Gyatso-kai, it seems the THRILLEDGE Dreadlocks have kept up the good play enough to draw the Thatius Icehawks 0-0 in a match containing great goaltending. Cory Greenspan (THRILLEDGE) and Patrick Obrenovic (Thatius) were each on top form stopping a combined 74 shots on goal.

"Obrenovic was a wall between those posts tonight," said THRILLEDGE head coach Matthew Haering. "It was impossible to get anything past him." And it was, but that does not overshadow the outstanding play of Cory Greenspan who also did not give up a goal. Haering also analyzed his skaters' play. "The first team played relatively well, but the Thatius defense was very strong tonight; a well played game by them. I would like to see more production from our second and third lines as we played mainly defense when those squads were on the ice." Head coach of Thatius Thomas Valenti could not be reached for comment.

The start to the tournament has been quite a surprising one for the Dreadlocks, with a win over a highly favored Gyatso-kai team and a tie against Thatius. This is THRILLEDGE's first World Cup of Ice Hockey and it looks to continue making its presence felt. Tomorrow's match-up is against 42nd ranked Carasatoga who looks to be quite a tough team to beat coming off a win over Bergnovinaia. Let's see if THRILLEDGE can keep this magical run alive.

The Press Room.
11:37 P.M.

The host of reporters, fans, and security guards shuffled in to the small press room that technically only sat forty people, but today was going to have to fit about twice that number. Head Coach Thomas Valenti made his way up to the front of the room, where he sat in the chair in the middle. Sérgio Koussevitzky, who is always late, came in about three minutes after the scheduled start of the press conference, looking disheveled as usual. The chairman of Thatius Hockey came up, introduced the two coaches, then opened the floor to questions.

"Mr. Valenti, I'm Miranda Fox from Thatius National Broadcasting Network. What can you say about the tie to THRILLEDGE today?"

"Well, Ms. Fox, it was honestly a good match between the two teams. Not only did our goalie, Patrick Obrenovic save 39 shots, he rallied the team to pick up their defense and stop the Dreadlocks. I think both teams had a valiant effort on the ice, and props to THRILLEDGE for their incredible goalie, Cory Greenspan."

"A follow up question, coach. Do you think it was the offense's fault for not scoring?"

"Partly yes, and partly no. Our offense did pretty well with 35 shots on goal, but none of them were that extraordinary to make it in. But again, as I said, their goalie did a tremendous job."

"Coach Valenti. Ed Rosenbrock of the Informer. What do you think of the match-up against Gyatso-kai tomorrow?"

"Well, that will also be a tough one. We lost to Gyatso-kai in the Junior World Hockey Championships in Cotdelapoms, but that was the junior league. Here we are in the World Cup, and we think we might have a chance. If Obrenovic can keep up with the level he played on today, and Aleksy Knežević and Michael Kirilenko step it up tomorrow, we might be able to beat them."

The chairman of Thatius Hockey comes and grabs the microphone.

"Sorry, that is all the time we have for today. It's late, and Coach Valenti needs to get rested for tomorrow's game. We will hold a press conference tomorrow, so you all are welcome to come back and ask questions to the coach, and we might have a player stop by as well. Thank you."

Nation: The Federal Republic of Allamunnic States
Team: Iron Tide
Team Colors: Royal Blue, Dark Grey,
Style Modifier: +1

Choose my scorers: TG me first.
Penalise my players: Yes, preferably a roughness or contact-related penalty. I’d prefer a TG first to clear it.
Eject my players: Yes, if it fits into the game well. Don't simply eject players if it wouldn't make sense from an RP or story standpoint. TG first.
Injure my players: Yes, but I determine severity outside of game-ending for a player.
Godmod scoring: Make it interesting if you use this. TG with me first.
Godmod injuries: Make it interesting if you use this. TG with me first.
Godmod other events: Make it interesting if you use this. TG me first.

Overview: The "Volunteers" system seems to have worked well; players, at least temporarily, for the duration of their time with the team, resign all contracts with domestic teams or franchises, and join the national team full-time. This change in approach yielded the first World Bowl playoff appearances for an Allamunnic team, and a championship run for the lacrosse team, so the formerly-lackluster hockey team hopes to continue to benefit from the change in approach.

Physicality has generally been a strength of Allamunnic teams, not finesse. It’s those roots the Tide is looking to get back to, as they'll try to bludgeon every team they face with superior power, strength, and aggression, and they'll focus more than ever on playing fast and hard after being outclassed by a championship-winning Plutoni squad in the quarterfinals in the 12th WCoH. An aggressive offense will likely be the hallmark of this team. There will be a very good power-play presence for this team, with hopefully a lot of scoring overall. Expect good penalty-killing, as well. Fighting will not be nearly as prevalent as it was last time around, but it will still be a big part of the way the Tide plays.

It is worth note that it was decided that a specific enforcement line was no longer necessary, as the normal players seem to be physical enough in how they play.

Head Coach: Kyle Smart - After two WCH's, Smart (a cousin to World Bowl coach Ryan Smart) has more than proven himself after leading the Tide to their best finish in the Cup of Hockey, with a 7-1-2 record in qualifiers only falling in the playoffs to the eventual champions (Plutoni) in the quarterfinals after knocking out Sarzonia in WCH XII, and after making it to the second round before losing to eventual champions Kelssek in WCH XIII. Smart's approach of balancing finesse-offense and brute Allamunnic strength has done good things for the team, and the rough and tumble defense he espouses doesn't hurt their ability to play against the best.

1st Line - Balanced

LW#03 Skaade Saen-Vaalhulm (Height: 5'6"; Weight: 156lbs; Age: 23) - Skaade has taken her place at the head of the team with the rest of her recruiting wave (Braannur and Maarks), and made for a fully Skraeling starting line. Skaade, like Maarks, has a surprising propensity for roughness and physical play. She's about as likely to score as any of the starters, and is certainly quite competent at setting up plays for other players and giving the opportunity to cherry-pick goals. Saen-Vaalhulm is a fixture on the power-play, as a general rule.

C#22 Theodur Braannur (Height: 6'1"; Weight: 255lbs; Age: 23) - Braannur was one of the more pleasant surprises that the team found when they first started looking around to recruit players. Braannur's natural talent, both in skating and stick-handling (as well as passing and shooting) made him an attractive enough prospect. Add to that good size, a knack for physical play classic of Allamunnic players, and an unusual degree of maneuverability, and you've got a dangerous player. Of course, add to that a knack for play-making, and you've got an even more dangerous player. Then, pair him wiht Kristin, and you've got quite possibly the biggest hazard to your championship hopes. He contributes on the powerplay and is a noted penalty-killer.

RW#02 Kristin Maarks (Height: 5'6"; Weight: 141lbs; Age: 25) - Kristin is one of the most explosive players on the team and is a fast, accurate, and agile player. She’s got a surprising mean streak, and will team up with Theo Braannur for just about everything. Kristin has a nasty (for opposing defenses) tendency to find the net when it should be impossible. Add that to her being one of the smallest players with a propensity for fighting and a scrappy attitude on the ice, and you've got a handful to deal with, even without the other four players moving around. Maarks tends to stick around and goal-vulture during the powerplay, so watch out.

2nd Line - Rotating Players

LW#81 Zak Crist (Height: 6'0"; Weight: 262lbs; Age: 25) - Crist is a rising left-winger who's main job at the moment is to gain experience and occasionally give the starters a breather. Crist is, though, a newly-recruited player who the Tide should be able to keep on hand for some time to come. Crist's tendencies lean towards attack and set-up for other players. He's on the inexperienced side, and is a little prone to erratic play in high-stress situations. Zak is a safe option when it comes to penalty-killing, though he's the most likely to come out; they can manage without a left-winger for a little bit.

C#88 Dann Rikken (Height: 5'10"; Weight: 244lbs; Age: 22) - Rikken is another newly-recruited player. He is possessed of some rather good scoring abilities, and is a good shooter, and is plenty good at setting up plays for other players. Rikken is also, alas, inexperienced. His mix of power and finesse, though, and his heavy amount of natural talent makes him a good player to keep around, especially if he matures and keeps up his talent and intensity.

RW#85 Haanryk Dercyk (Height: 6'0"; Weight: 258lbs; Age: 38) - Deryck is, by far, the most experienced part of the second line. He has a knack for finding the goal, can play quite physically, has plenty of break-away capability, and passes quite precisely. His shots can snap past most goalies without too much problem, and he has the Allamunnic team spirit flowing through him; he's more than capable of sitting back and taking a supporting role to the others, if necessary. Dercyk's presence will be felt when it comes time to penalty-kill.

3rd Line - Reserve Line

LW#35 Leopold Oakes (Height: 6'3"; Weight: 268lbs; Age: 30) - Oakes is an AHL veteran who's decided to take his skills to the national team full-time. He's a solid, reliable, and flexible player who can be plugged in at any time to keep things moving and functioning properly. That said, don't expect any fireworks, either in fisticuffs or scoring from this disciplined supporting-player.

C#00 Annaka Larsson (Height: 5'6"; Weight: 160lbs; Age: 19) - Annaka seems to have all of Theo's explosive tendencies, but little of his size. Instead, she seems to have made up for it with some ridiculous speed and a nearly-terrifying scoring ability. Unfortunately, she's a little on the inexperienced side, having just come out of high school. Therefore, she'll be playing a reservist's role unless the competition is truely laughable or injuries start to cripple the team. Of course, sometimes they might take advantage of powerplays to stick her into the line and see what she can do.

RW#51 Benjamin Steinfeld (Height: 6'1"; Weight: 251lbs; Age: 26) - Steinfeld is a player who had been unemployed for almost a year when the call went out from the team for reserve players. Having survived the cuts, Steinfeld has endeared himself to coaches with his work-ethic rather than his more-or-less average talent level. Steinfeld is an obvious reservist who can be counted on to come in and play his position well (although he's a little more defensively-inclined), or at least well-enough that glaring problems won't show up.

Defensemen

First Pairing

RD#66 Haanryk Grimmur (Height: 6’1”; Weight: 295 lbs; Age: 28) – Grimmur is probably the single most violent and undisciplined defenseman that the Tide still has, which means that, rough-and-tumble as he is, and as fight-prone as he may be, they can probably start worrying about other things now. Though he'll sometimes drop the gloves, Grimmur is, on the whole, much more disciplined than his former partner on the Iron Tide, Artie Weiss. Grimmur plays some airtight defense, to boot, even if he is a little lacking in the maneuverability department. What on earth would have made you think this guy wasn't a penalty-killer?

LD#55 Joe Quinn (Height: 6’0”; Weight: 274 lbs; Age: 27) – Who’s this guy? Only an excellent defenseman. Joe Quinn, in addition to being a very good defensive player, with good instincts, good speed, good size, and discipline is also a good shooter and can turn a turnover into a score for the Tide. Look out for this kid, or he'll make you pay, especially now that he's got the starting job with Artie Weiss' departure. Don't be surprised to see Quinn on the ice during powerplays or when it comes time to penalty-kill.

Second Pairing:

RD#18 Joe Willems (Height: 6'1"; Weight: 212lbs; Age: 28) - Joe is a competent player, and a good, reliable, stabilizing defender. Joe is noted for playing his responsibilities closely and conscientiously, and moreover doing it well. That said, Willems lacks that certain spark that some of the other players have.

LD#95 Thomas McKnight (Height: 6’0”; Weight: 274 lbs; Age: 26) – Last year, Thomas McKnight saw most of his limited action at center. However, with the team's needs at defenseman increasing, the powerful, versatile young man has moved to left defenseman, and provides a bit of flexibility to the defense; he's quite good at covering his defensive responsibilities, but still has the memory of playing center going for him, which means he's used to and capable of capitalizing on turnovers to make them into points, or at least harassing shots on goal. Due to his offensive experience, McKnight tends to come in during powerplays to help out.

Third Pairing:

RD#24 Sheila O'Connor (Height: 5'8"; Weight: 141lbs; Age: 27) - Sheila is a reliable defender, good at separating attackers from the puck by hook or by crook, and is more than willing to smack some heads to get it back and away from their own goal. Sheila is unlikely to be heavily penalized, and probably won't get too many goals, either. Perhaps a few assists.

LD#71 Hailey Kierkegaard (Height: 5'7"; Weight: 174lbs; Age: 20) - And then there's Hailey. Hailey seems to have all the makings of an excellent, athletic, finesse-geared defender, and she's smart enough to not let anyone fool her or distract her from playing her responsibilities well. That said, Hailey's also on the inexperienced side, and has yet to fully adjust, stamina-wise and mind-set-wise to high- and international-level play, so she's stuck in a reserve spot while she develops.

Goalkeepers

GK#07 Aandrik Stok (Height: 6'1"; Weight: 241lbs; Age: 27) - Aandrik is a crazily-athletic goalie who specializes in making spectacular and efficient saves. He has great stamina, and since the split with the AHL, Stok has assumed the starting goalie's duties. Stok and Galloway alternate starts, but there's no doubt in any observer's mind which is the more efficient of the two.

GK#09 Felix Galloway (Height: 6'0"; Weight: 235lbs; Age: 29) - Felix is a goalie brought in due to the earlier-than-expected split between the AHL and the personnel of the national team. Felix is probably the lesser of the two goalies, but he's not too shabby a player himself. Either way, the Tide will have someone they can count on in-net.

"The plans and schemes of tyrants are broken by many things. They shatter against cliffs of heroic struggle. They rupture on reefs of open resistance. And they are slowly eroded, bit by little bit, on the very beaches where they measure triumph, by countless grains of sand. By the stubborn little decencies of humble little men." -Eric Flint, Belisarius II: In The Heart of Darkness

Issues Resolved: Ngo OUT OF FIRST LINE!

From the Republic Associated Times, 2011.2.10.04

In a not-so-shocking move, Head Coach for the Ice Bisons Kad Skirata announced today that during last night's practice session, first-line left winger Ngo Du has been relegated to the reserves due to 'irreconcilable differences between (Ngo) and his teammates'.

While we at RATimes are unsure of what happened, our inside-man Bao Lin has brought us this startling story:
It all happened so fast...

Upon returning to the locker room, (Ngo) and (Hakoda Ishii) were having a spat of sorts, exchanging words... just being boisterous men. Suddenly, Hakoda told Ngo to go "cool down with his new country... (I) hear it is awfully cold there" and Ngo just quipped back "Beats being a nothing Mando
chakaar[i] any day." and then it happened.

Hakoda turned to face Ngo and simply headbutted the child... He fell back, only for Hakoda to pick him up and throw the boy into a locker. Ngo was still reeling from the hit before Hakoda gave him a solid right hook that Ngo was simply left on the floor, muttering to himself incoherently.

When asked of the validity of this story, Coach Skirata had only this to say:

Boys will be boys... but to disrespect our cultures and use such a slur against one of his own... Ngo is simply not welcomed on the lines anymore. Maybe in a few days... Maybe never. But for now, he will sit the games out in the locker room. In full dress.

As to his replacement, Skirata is taking quite the gamble and placing second-line right winger Wad'e Tay'haai on first. Originally a left winger, Tay'haai has been playing the right side as a means of improving his ice reading skills, according to Skirata. "The boy has natural talent, and with such an insult from (Ngo), I need to rebuild faith in my men..."

To replace Tay'haai, Foggy Swamp star right winger Nguyen Tho is coming from reserves. A strong player in nearly every sense, Nguyen shall help to prove critical in tonight's game against Cassadaigua...
