Postby Civil Citizenry » Tue Aug 02, 2011 8:17 am

WORLD LACROSSE CHAMPIONSHIPS XII
Civil Citizenry

Welcome, one and all, to the twelfth edition of the World Lacrosse Championships, held in Civil Citizenry! Thirty-two nations will be sending teams to challenge for the most prestigious lacrosse title in the multiverse. Four-time champion Sarzonia has opted not to participate – so who will claim the next championship? Will it be two-time victors Allamunnic States; the inaugural champions, Newmanistan; or will it be you?

For the group stage, teams are split into eight groups of four. A triple round-robin format will be used, where the first two legs will be played in participating nations and the final leg will be played in Civil Citizenry. Every team will have three home games, three away games, and three neutral games.

At the end of the group stage, if tiebreakers are necessary, they will be applied in the following order: head-to-head record, head-to-head goal differential, head-to-head goals scored, overall goal differential, and overall goals scored, respectively. The top two teams in each group will qualify for the knockout stage, which will be played entirely in Civil Citizenry.

xkoranate 0.3.2 will be used for scorination. In deference to the WLC tradition of RPing being the main factor in determining results (there are no international lacrosse rankings), bonuses will be graded generously - from 1 to 5 points. However, only the very best RPs will receive the maximum reward. Good RPs should be creative and well-written; quantity is not much of an issue, but it must be longer than a few lines. Please make every effort to proofread your writing - I will only deduct points if you misspell words often. There will be no RP bonus degradation. RP cutoffs will take place at approximately 10:00 PM EST.

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to TG me - or post in the World Lacrosse Championships discussion thread (which can be found here).

Read about the cities and stadiums you will play in for the neutral-site group stage games here.

The Kytlar Peninsulae Lacrosse Team
First international sporting representatives of The Kytlar Peninsulae

Home games are played at the Roddens University Field, in the city of Roddens (capacity 8,840, seated 7,840; the remaining 1,000 spaces are allocated to two grass banks behind each end line). Expect a young, vociferous crowd. Visiting fans are allocated a portion of the South Stand, in accordance with demand. (This stand is opposite the Main Stand shown on this picture, and is one tier throughout.)

Goalkeepers
17. Walter SMITH
24. Whootung WOSHASH

Defenders
6. Kyle STOCK
8. Philip COTTEE
13. Norman VIRGO
30. Cameron HIGGINSON
31. Louis MORIARTY

Midfielders
9. SZE-YING Chan
15. Robbie JACKSON
16. Aaron NAIRN
20. Marcus HAMILTON
21. Kupe KIRIKIRI

Attackers
5. Caine McNALLY
12. Ock FILS
14. Andy SHEPHERD
23. Dion DUNMORE
25. José Eloy PÍNOLA

Key players: Sze-Ying Chan may be small in stature, but he is certainly not small in importance to the team thanks to his tireless running and precise passing. Kupe Kirikiri - one of a very few Aboriginal players of a sport most associated with wealthy white communities in this country - has great speed and agility to get into the right place at the right time. Caine McNally is slow, and gives away too many penalties, but his shot is brutally powerful, making him irreplaceable in the team, and a regular top scorer. Whootung Woshash's agility and Walter Smith's plodding reliability make both good goalkeepers in their own right, and they will battle fiercely for selection.

Note: Names listed in CAPITALS are those that appear on the players' uniforms, and are used by commentators (e.g. "Kirikiri passes to Sze-Ying... and now back to Moriarty"). The team has a tendency to make regular substitutions in the midfield, but Sze-Ying tends to stay on for most of the game due to his stamina. Lacrosse is still a little-known sport in much of the country, so it's not even a given that Roddens University Field will sell out, but crowds of around 7,000 are tentatively expected.

ROCKETS IN, STARS OUT

Pocono City- Newmanistan’s return to the World Lacrosse Championships is already creating quite a stir. It appears that the world hasn’t forgotten the talent level of the Rockets out on the field, and it has caused a high profile team to decide that they did not want to participate. Sarzonia, who has been one of the best lacrosse playing nations during our absence (but they are no Allamunnic States), has pulled the team from the competition. Though many people think that they decided to do that because of their displeasure with the format of the group stages, and having neutral group stage games in the home nation, there are some across the Empire who think that this is just a cop out.

“They’re afraid of possibly playing us,” said Loudon resident Jason Thomas, “I’m sure there are other nations out there who are just as concerned to see us back in the hunt. Some of them might not know better, but Sarzonia knew not to get in our way.” Centralia native Shannon Rokowski agrees, “So they pulled out the team because of the schedule? That’s funny. I don’t think that is true. I think they just don’t want to play the Rockets.” All kidding aside, Sarzonia’s withdrawal had nothing to do with the return of Newmanistan and everything to do with their disapproval of the format. (Or does it?)

The question will be, though, can the yet to be determined team from Newmanistan compete at this high level? Lacrosse used to be our national sport, but with the emergence of baseball taking over, and the overall presence in other sports, that level of prestige for the sport has gone down. It has also hurt the national team that Emperor Michael IV is no longer the coach of the team, for obvious reasons. You will recall that High Highness was a great lacrosse player himself for the Pocono City Capitals, and then was the coach of that team before becoming the leader of the domestic club. It was under Michael IV, then still a Prince, that the Rockets took the title in the first World Lacrosse Championships, and the successful runs that came up a bit short thereafter. It was easier then, for him to be the coach, but with the passing of Empress Jessica, Michael took over the throne, and with it, meant that he had to leave the national team. At about the same time the Empire pulled out of international sports in general. Many thought that was the end of Newmanistan lacrosse, and when the sport never returned when others did, that thought seemed to be confirmed.

Why didn’t Newmanistan return a while ago? Well, it was a displeasure with the direction the tournament had gone in. While we were away, the World Lacrosse Championships has become one where rank is no longer considered. If you ask people in some of the newer nations, such as host Civil Citizenry, they will probably look at you with two heads if you told him their used to be a system of ranks. Looking at their bid, you can see the general assumption that this a tournament that simply, does not utilize them. This was discouraging to high ranking members of Newmanistan lacrosse and while they would have accepted having to start from the scratch, they never liked this new age notion that there would be no rankings in this anymore. Curtis Farrell, now the President of the Newmanistan Lacrosse League and famed member of our former “Capital Connection,” admits this return is on a let’s see what happens basis, “Newmanistan is a nation that loves lacrosse. Unfortunately, there were several factors that had us leave, and this general championship has gone in a direction. I always found that irritating, because you have people now who just assume there is no ranks. That direction of the tournament was something that we never liked. I wasn’t sure if it was in Newmanistan’s best interest to return and am still not convinced now. I can’t promise you that this is a long term return, or just a one-off thing. I really have to see how things go here.” Farrell was asked if we would try to persuade tournament directors to have this tournament go back to how it was before, when rank was considered. “I would like too. Unfortunately, other then Sarzonia who is not with us in this tournament, and the Allamunnic States, this is a new group of teams we are competing against and people who don’t know how the tournament used to be. For them, it would be a radical change, and that’s unfortunate. I don’t think we would have success convincing them.”

The team should be announced within 24 hours. Farrell says not to expect surprises, “Our fans know who the best players in the Empire are, and should be able to have a good idea of who is going to be playing for us.” Of course, that doesn’t help anyone else, but the announcement will be soon.

Churchma Gators WLC 12 Coverage
New Head Coach to lead Churchma in WLC 12
Justin Bruce, BSRN

It may seem like just a short few years ago when Bob Ponder led Churchma to the World Lacrosse Championships 10 Title versus our rivals, the Allamunnic States, but those days have come and gone and there is officially a new mayor in town. You may recognize the name of Robert Heald, Churchma's captain for WLC 8, 9, 10, and 11, along with all-time leading goal scorer. Now you can add a new factoid beside his name, he has officially become the third head coach in the history of Churchma's lacrosse program. Heald, 32 years old, becomes one of the youngest national coaches for any sport in the history of the Republic.

Bob Ponder is gone, after leaving his mark with a 20-15 record, WLC 10 Runner-ups, while that was also his lone-playoff appearance as the head coach. His historical run in WLC 10 left many wondering why Ponder "stepped down" as head coach, but the Republic of Churchma Lacrosse Board decided they wanted to go in a different direction in hopes of finding a more consistent team. It didn't take long as the two major candidates for WLC 12 were Ponder and Heald. After a 8-1 vote from the Board, it was decided to let Ponder "retire" from coaching and hire Heald.

"Sure there are some hard feelings between coach (Ponder) and I because we were fighing for the same position and we're only ten years apart in age. But regardless of how things turned out, I know he's going to be there for me when I need help. If I learned anything from him, it is that you can't be a sore loser, and when everyone else is down, you have to bring them up. He's a great guy and I wish him the best in the future," Heald said in a press conference late Tuesday night.

With Heald you are guarenteed to get one thing for certain- offense. Heald was an attacker throughout his entire career, and it's safe to say he'll be preaching all about attacking during their practices. If the Gators have a dominant defense I'll be thouroughly surprised.

Heald and his assistants have announced the roster for WLC 12, as the following:

Coaching Staff
Head Coach: Robert Heald (32 years old)

Country: Allamunnic States
Team: Volunteers
Coach: Frank McDowell (Age: 41)
Style Modifier: Most Defensive
Team Colors: Grey, Blue
Home Field: Federal Steel Field (Capacity: 142,000 people)

RP Permissions: Do you know what? If you're doing anything outside of the scorers, TG for approval first. There, that's out of the way.
RP Scorers: Yes, but keep in mind team's approach (I still know little of lax, so I still don't really know what that means for this)
GodMod Scores: Make it interesting, if you absolutely must do this. TG for approval first.
RP Injuries: Nothing beyond game-ending. I make the call beyond that. TG for permission first, preferably.
GodMod Injuries: Nothing beyond game-ending. TG for permission first.
GodMod "Other" Events: Only if you do something fun or awesome with it. Boring people will be shot.
Penalize/Eject Players: Yep. Make sure its for a charicteristic penalty, though. Usually roughness-related or somesuch.

Goalkeepers

#08 - Leopold Fuchs (6'0", 256lbs, Age: 28) - Despite some teething issues last year, Fuchs, with some help from his defense, has proven as able a goal-keeper as there is anywhere in international lacrosse; only a handful (no more than ten, thus far, to be exact) goalies can lay claim to being a championships caliber goalie, and Fuchs is one of them. Though a little more prone to getting flustered than one might like, he'll keep a cool head more often than not.

Defenders

RD#41 - John Willems (6'1", 238lbs, Age: 25) - John is a little bit young, and is just out of college; his skills are still very much developing, and he is a very good player, but he's a little prone to fluctuations in his performance. Well, he was, but he's proven far more steady of late, and is rather likely to rotate. He's a little less 'grind-it-out' minded and tends instead to focus on simply forcing turnovers, and so he adds a little more versatility to the defense.

MD#49 - Ryan Oslo (6'0", 224lbs, Age: 28) - Oslo was one of the team's new faces last year, after leaving a four-year veteran role in the national league to come play for the Volunteers. He's not too much unlike the old breed of Allamunnic defensive player, although he is a little bit lighter and faster than the old norm was. More than anything, though, he's still the type of physical player that Coach McDowell has always favored. Oslo provided a steadying influence and physical anchor for the defense to operate around last year, providing stability to an inexperienced group.

LD#46 - Slava Hendriks (5'5", 138lbs, Age: 28) - Slava is a very fast, very skilled and plenty physical, just like almost all Allamunnic defenders. Slava specializes in forcing turnovers, though, rather than simply grinding down and wearing out attackers. Slava's a proven commodity on a team that was short of them a year ago, and is still one of the more experienced players.

Midfielders

RM#32 - Zak Mueller (6'4", 228lbs, Age: 25) - Zak may not be the kid of the team anymore, but he's still young, and, more to the point, like most of the team, is still a young player who was forced to assume a greater role because of last years' newly-enforced eligibility rules for the national team. Mueller's certainly got plenty of physical talent, and his relatively long tenure on the team (he's one of only a handful of players remaining from the Vols' WLC 7 championship run) all place him in the position of one of the team's new leaders.

CM#38 - Walter Marsh (6'1", 236lbs, Age: 32) - Walter Marsh is the oldest, most experienced players still with the Vols. Like fellow right-midfielder Zak Mueller, he was on hand for the team's first championship run. And like Mueller, he's had to step into a leadership role. Formerly a veteran substitute position player, Marsh has stepped up admirably in the team's leadership and experience vacuum to teach the younger players and cover for them when they inevitably make mistakes in their on-the-job-training (as it were). Marsh's steadying influence has also helped the midfield to remain one of the team's main offensive forces, as his responsible play often leaves Downing free to go to town on opposing defenses.

LM#36 - Cassie Downing (5'6", 144lbs, Age: 22) - Cassie is something of a sporting prodigy in the Federation, in Field Hockey and Track and Field, most notably. Lacrosse has proven to be no exception to her talents, and she's quite fast, with a fair amount of power. She lacks a certain amount of refinement in her playing, because of her relative inexperience, but she's pretty damn good, despite that. After being pushed into a position of increased responsibility last year, she filled it with spectacular ability, becoming the team's leading scorer and de-facto on-field leader. Not bad for someone still in college.

Attackers

RA#15 - John Dahlgren (6'1", 268lbs, Age: 28) - John has had the unenviable task of going from a supporting player to a prolific group of scorers to the stabilizing veteran in a group of attackers who are by and large only barely out of college. Though he still acts first and foremost as the veteran supporting player, Dahlgren has made that adjustment well and has remained a key to the offense, setting up plays and stepping up to make them happen when necessary.

CA#18 - Joanna Sommers (5'8", 141lbs, Age: 24) - Joanna gave strong service on last year's team, and proved more than capable of making plays where necessary, especially with Dahlgren's supporting talents anchoring the forwards' attack. Sommers showed a knack for embarassing defenders and opening scoring opportunities for herself, Erika, and Cassie.

LA#17 - Erika Shoenburg (5'4", 137lbs, Age: 24) - Erika's stamina wound up being an issue during WLC 10, but it gradually stopped being one as the tournament progressed and her endurance increased. By the end, Shoenburg was a keystone to the team's offense, and worked a devestating tandem with Sommers, with whom she excelled at embarassing overenthusiastic defenders and inflicting pain on defenses (figuratively, of course; she's one of the smallest and least physical players for the Vols).

Reserves

FR#11 - Gaarutt Aronbacher (6'0", 244lbs, Age: 28) - When the new rules for national team eligibility came through, Gaarutt was among the first players to renounce their domestic league commitments. Aronbacher, as a result of the Vols' general short-staffedness, has been required to learn all of the positions and act as a general reserve and substitute for any player that needs breather or is injured. Given his natural talent, he's as well suited to most of the positions as anyone, but he's also still learning to some extent for his new roles (with the exception of attacker), and so he'll probably make some mistakes in other positions. With the addition of other reserve players, though, he'll likely be able to stick to his original position of attacker.

DR#40 - Karrin Connoly (5'6", 124lbs, Age: 22) - when looking for a defensive reserve, Coach McDowell looked for something other than his usual preference; rather than a large, bruising defender, a smaller, scrappier player. He found what he wanted in Connoly, who rather being small and skill-oriented (although she's plenty skillful), is smaller and just as physically inclined as some of the larger players. Moreover, she seems to be rather durable, since despite heavy play in college and high school, has yet to suffer a major injury (knock on wood!) and despite her physical style of play.

MFR#30 - Haanryk Thursunn (6'2", 265lbs, Age: 22) - Thursunn is a new face on the team, opting to go to the Vols rather than immediately pursue a career in the national league. Thursunn's size and playing style lend themselves to him playing as a defender or midfielder rather than as one of the Vols' more skill-oriented forwards (though he'll tend more towards the latter than the former). With a little bit of college goalie time under his belt, he might, in a particularly bad pinch, be called upon to relieve in goal, although that shouldn't be necessary, due to the presence of...

RGK#04 - Sheila Waalturs (5'5", 130lbs, Age: 21) - A goalkeeper with blazing-fast reflexes and a knack for placing something, be it a stick or herself, in the right place at the right time, Waalturs will serve as Fuchs' backup should he need to come out during games. A recent college grad, she'll need a little bit of adjustment time to the big leagues, and will have to rely on speed in net, since she pretty much lacks much in the way of real size.

Team Overview:
Few people saw the WLC 10 championship run by a rebuilding Volunteers' squad coming, the squad and its fans included. Operating with a squad with little room for error or injury, the team pulled together and put together a run to the finish, and resparked enthusiasm from Allamunnic fans after a few lackluster finishes in previous years.

The team, though as close-knit and as much a seemingly low-budget operation as ever, has added a few reserves to make things easier on the players and to start preparing players to step up should any of the current starters depart for some reason.

Look for the same physical approach as last year and an effort to wear opponents out despite low numbers; the players on this squad have some ridiculous endurance as a result of their practices and experiences playing short-handed. Furthermore, God help any team that lets Cassie Downing get loose.

The team is looking to make its way back to the finals again, after a finals run that ended in a championship series loss to Sarzonia; since the team is exactly the same as last year's, there's no reason they can't be a championship threat once again.

Stadiums:

Federal Steel Field (Thomasburg, Stalhamark, FRAS)(Capacity: 142,000) - Federal Steel Field is the largest stadium in the country, and normally plays host to the gridiron squads of the Thomasburg Ironmongers, Steelers, and Boilermakers. Thomasburg lacrosse clubs and soccer clubs also play in the modern, well-maintained facility. Teams playing here should be wary of irritating the fans; beer bottles have a way of flying out of the stands towards a team that has rubbed the home crowd the wrong way. And there will be a home crowd. A large one. Though the stadium does boast a retractable roof, look for the cold-loving Allamunnae to leave it open, even during the chilly early spring. Federal Steel Field also serves as the Volunteers' home field during the WLC, and so will serve Group A as its Allamunnic home-away-from-home.

Rickenbacker-Studdenburger Stadium (Vienna, Ostrea, FRAS)(Capacity: 128,000) - RSS is the home stadium of the Vienna Barons and Vienna Huskies gridiron teams and the Vienna lacrosse club and soccer club. Another recent construction, RSS has some of the best facilities in the country, and as an added bonus, unlike in Thomasburg, fans don't generally throw things at teams that they don't like here (unless it's Innsbruck; they're fair game. Always). RSS will serve the teams of Group B during their time in the Federation.

The Royal Arena (Koenigshalloe, Ostlund, FRAS)(Capacity: 140,000) - Just smaller than Federal Steel Field (and boy do they know it), the Royal Arena sometimes is known as the Haldstadt pleasure dome; if there is a more beautiful and shiny stadium in the country, it's hiding itself well. The Arena serves as the home for Koenigshalloe's royally-sponsored teams, who are almost all called the kings. One of only a few stadiums in the country with a roof at all, the Arena's enclosed spaces will ensure that games take place in regular conditions here. Group C will have the benefits of the Arena as their Allamunnic home.

Cataphract Memorial Stadium (Skarrsboro, Skraelingia, FRAS)(Capacity: 118,000) - If there is a more potentially-hostile crowd in the country, it's probably in Thomasburg. The Skraelings love their sports as much, if not more than most people, and provide a loud atmosphere for games, and though beer bottles may not fly out of the stands, insults will a-plenty to any team they don't feel is playing to the best of their ability. Skarrsboro in early spring is pretty damn cold, and the stadium lacks a roof, so teams playing here (like those from Group D) should plan on bundling up.

Wolfmanne Lacrosse Team

The failure of the bid to co-host the WLC 12 aside, a team of the top Wolfmanni Lacrosse players has been raised. Primarily they come from the Wolfmanne Federation of Lacrosse Pro League, more commonly referred to as the WFL Pro League and under current sponsorship agreements, the WSPN Pro League. Field lacrosse is the most popular summer sport and is one of the national sports, the other being Rugby union. Both Rugby and Ice hockey fans enjoy lacrosse in the summer. The WSPN Pro League draw in spectators at the tens of thousands and TV viewing for lacrosse is high.

Lacrosse was brought to the country by foreigners of unknown origin in the late 19th century, the exact year unknown. They had immigrated to Wolfmanne and were amateur Lacrosse players. Two clubs were found as members of the WSPN Pro League; however their names or locations are unknown as well. Natural born citizens of Wolfmanne had no summer sport to play; early forms of Ice hockey and the sport of Rugby before the schism were popular however the seasons only lasted during the winter. Cricket was played as a summer sport, although it lacks full contact, something that the Wolfmanni people didn't like. Rowing was a popular alternative if you lived by water but for the rest, they were often left bored. Lacrosse was soon picked up and quickly spread throughout the country. The WFL Pro League was found in 1964, as a professional league due to many University and top amateur players wishing to go professional. It operates a franchise system and originally started with 8 teams. Today there are 24 teams.

Without further ado, here's the official roster for the Wolfmanne national (field) lacrosse team.

Hey, I'm Luka Ilkhin. I'm a lacrosse player - now, this may not sound so big in some nations. But I'm from Mytannion, and so, this is a huge, huge thing. Lacrosse is probably the second or third biggest sport in Mytannion, and so - it is given a massive spotlight - it has a joint-league with our friends in Cotdelapoms, and the money generated by Mytanar teams matches some of the revenue generated by the top 2.Takillega sides in our football league, and the top sides in that league generate quite a bit of money.

I'm the youngest player on this lacrosse team, I'm only 18 - but our national side is a fairly young one in comparison with some other nations. Our youth systems are among the best in the world - and that is in pretty much every sport. Our sides are full of youthful enthusiasm, and this has helped us enormously - we've now qualified for two World Cups in football, and we've won one World Lacrosse Championship, and finished third in another. This is a testament to our production line, and of course - we won the inaugural World Junior Ice Hockey Championship, emphasis being on the word Junior of course - but this sadly didn't transfer into our World Cup of (Ice) Hockey a couple of months ago.

Anyway, the hype surrounding lacrosse has sort of died down a bit now - mainly because some of our most high profile players had a bit of a bust-up in the tenth World Lacrosse Championship, and then in the 11th version of the championship - we didn't do too well, we didn't even qualify out of the group stage. However, the enthusiasm surrounding the MCUL (Mytanar-Cotdelapomais United League), has stayed - and now the adverts around our cities have returned, the hulking figure of Anatoliy Sparwasser - the national team captain, is a common sighting. He has been doing advertisments for Mytaplus Sport, our biggest sporting television channel - along with the words 'We're Back.' We hope this will be true, and we hope that we can win our second World Lacrosse Championship, after our first title in World Lacrosse Championship in WLC IX - when I was only 13.

This dying down of interest in lacrosse has led the MLA (Mytanar Lacrosse Association), to pick a much smaller side than we did in the boom-times of the sport, when domestic games normally filled the full capacity of the stadium - there are still big attendances, but not so many sell-outs - we now only have a roster of 17 players. When the roster would be in excess of 20 players in WLC IX (WLC 9).

Now, I'm going to give you the roster - along with a bit of information about each player, and my own personal opinion of each of my team-mates - from the point of a player.

Goalkeeper: Yury Cherranik - 24 - The Alzburg Saints
Yury is a pure shot-stopper, he'll put his body in front of the ball - and stop it from going i the net, quite simply. I think this comes from the fact he used to be a field hockey goalkeeper, and then an ice hockey goaltender - so he's not afraid of being hit with the ball, or the puck - as it were. He's slightly undersized for a 'keeper, standing at 5'7. But he does his job nicely and plays at the once world-beating Alzburg Saints who still have an immensely competitive side, who can do better than they currently are doing in the league. Anyway, Yury seems pretty likeable - he's a bit reclusive though, he'd prefer to be by himself than with the team in his spare-time, but fair enough I suppose.

Defenceman: Tyro Braher - 26 - The Alzburg Saints
Tyro is a world-class defender, he was in the side that won the World Lacrosse Championship five years ago. He is another of the Saints' contigent in the side and as stated, he is simply brilliant. He is another product of the famed Alzburg Saints youth system, and currently plays for the club too - being one of their main men. He isn't the biggest of defensemen, but his pace and pitch intelligence makes up for that. He reads the game amazingly well, almost being a step ahead of the play - knowing exactly what will happen next. He is five foot, eight inches tall - and was once talked up as a future nationa team captain. With the emergence of Sparwasser, it isn't as likely - but he certainly has the quality to do that. I like him, he's funny and really is the guy in the changing room that plays the practical jokes and even the manager doesn't care that he does, he's funny.

Defenceman: Matti Kilpi - 25 - Îles-d'Elisabeth Voyageurs (Cotdelapoms)
Matti, aha, Matti - now, I said Tyro was funny. But the mention of Matti and players on our team can't help but break out a smile whenever somebody mentions his name. He doesn't know it, but he is absolutely hilarious - some of the things he comes out with are just funny - and he doesn't care if he is absolutely burning on someone when they're in the room. He's just funny. He is tall, at six foot five inches tall. He is also extremely quick, and knows what he is doing on the lacrosse pitch. His downfall (yes, there is one..), seemingly - is that he is extremely nervous before a game. He plays for the Voyageurs in the MCUL - one of the Cotdelapomais sides that make up the MCUL - and he is a team-mate of Besnik Kuharic - another player on our national side that plays for the Voyageurs.

Defenceman: Mario Plesov - 22 - Argyres X
He used to be one of the players who people would say 'next time, he'll play a huge part' - and this time, it really is his first big break. He stands at 6'4 tall, and is a big, brawny defenceman - prepared to put his body in the way of oncoming attackers if he needs to - to stop them from scoring. He plays for Argyes X at the Cruxschtade - he's quite skilled when stick-handling too, and is an excellent passer. I don't know him that well, to be honest - he doesn't talk much, apart from outside his little group (him, Milo Tyrella, Dusko Laserov, Darko Tolic etc), the couple of words we've shared have been in training have been brief and haven't given me much information on the kid.

Midfielder: Anatoliy Sparwasser - 22 - Ouverjavaa Rebels
Sparwasser is the team captain, and I get on with him very, very well. He is one of my domestic team team-mates after all. I know him because of that and we have a good relationship on the pitch. Linking up a lot, in the game - with him providing me a lot of assists for my goals in the MCUL last season, on the way to us winning the league, too. He's our best player, his passing his excellent, he has pace and stamina - the two meaning he is extremely important to the side, with him being able to run all game. He's creative and intelligent, knowing what to do and when to do it in a game. He isn't the tallest of players, standing at five foot eight inches. He isn't the strongest of players though, and can be kept of the ball, but his pace means he doesn't need it all that often. Yeah, and I get on with him well - he is one of my best mates inside the game.

Midfielder: Besnik Kuharic - 24 - Îles-d'Elisabeth Voyageurs (Cotdelapoms)
He plays for the Îles-d'Elisabeth Voyageurs. He is part of our surprisingly young midfield, as a small, quick player who is confident enough just to assist in the play - rather than go for it alone. He is five foot seven inches tall, which re-inforces the fact he isn't the tallest midfielder ever. He is good at intercepting wayward passes, but is rather better going forward - so will probably leave the defensive side of things to the defenders and his team-mates in midfield. He is creative and can find the gaps that the ball can be passed into for his team-mates. He was born in Thessia and as is known by Mytanars, this means that he will have been very poor when he was young, he doesn't speak much - but seems nice enough and is very honest and very modest, too. This probably comes from his under-priveleged upbringing.

Midfielder: Dusko Laserov - 20 - Dzinkagrad Revolution
He played in both WLC IX and WLC X - before we completely forgot to release the players' names who were competing in WLC XI. He showed so much pedigree in them to WLCs and showed he had so much talent. He is still fighting for a starting place in this squad. When he was younger, competing in WLC IX and X - he wasn't used too much, the coaches worried about him suffering from 'burnout' - or, in other words, when he is older - he won't perform so well because he has been overused when he is younger. He's a great guy outside of lacrosse, too, and is honest and caring and really does care about his team-mates, something which is found too much.

Attacker: Milo Tyrella - 29 - The Alzburg Saints
The twenty-nine year old is son of Manager, Gozzak Tyrella. Milo, is the best player on the team - and is now team captain at both national and club level. It is well known that he didn't start to become amazing until his twenty-first birthday. In the first season of the MCUL, he led The Alzburg Saints to the MCUL Title. He's quick and strong, being able to spring players and push them off the ball. His shooting is incredibly accurate, but has a lot of power behind it also - his passing is extremely similar to this too. He is the record-holder for the most goals in Mytanar Lacrosse History, on both the national and domestic fronts. He is also chief-support player, being able to set things up brilliantly even on offense. He had a bust-up with Maxym Okachachev, who was one of the key players on the national side in WLC X - which led to Okachachev leaving the Saints.

Attacker: Gylfi Syr'Lik - 26 - Kensington Heights Cranes (Cotdelapoms)
He plays for Kensington Heights Cranes lacrosse team in the MCUL. The Cotdelapomais side actually very good. But he is also one of the most recognizable aboriginees in Mytannion - with whiter than white skin and very blond hair (aboriginees are of Nordic descent in Mytannion...). He is pacy, and between him and Maxi Oersin - they should get a whole lot of goals through pace alone. The five foot seven inch tall aboriginee is looked to be a good remedy for the things we apparently lacked last tournament (although that couldn't of been much, seen as we won the tournament). We needed a little bit more pace going forward, to get forward quickly and swarm defences. He is aboriginee, and so has some very left-wing views - as most aboriginal communities are based around communism. He's a likeable guy though, and easy to talk to about anything.

Attacker: Maxi Oersin - 20 - Cizian Mariners
He is very quick, and is embedded in his club team's starting line-up. He should work well with Syr'Lik, the two of them having similar styles of play - both being quick and favouring short, sharp passes to find their way towards goal. He's a good player, no doubt - but he's really fighting for his spot in this side with some good players behind him in the team (including me!), and we're really breathing down his neck for a place in the starting line-up. Maxi is a good guy, he's really lazy though - and in training he doesn't work very hard. But y'know, he still gets in the side and this gets me bitter sometimes.

Substitutes
Goalkeeper: Marko Lagetek - 21 - Ouverjavaa Rebels
Defenceman: Viktor Yuchenko - 20 - Ouverjavaa Rebels
Defenceman: Jasno Kadletz - 19 - Ebor Roar
Midfielder: Darko Tolic - 23 - Cizian Mariners
Midfielder: Maxym Okachachev - 25 - Free Agent
Attacker: Vasiliy Rytrov - 23 - Esca Wolves
Attacker: Luka Ilkhin - 18 - Ouverjavaa Rebels (ME!)

Anyway, tomorrow, I'll give you more information on the substitutes, teams in our group - and our chances of winning the tournament - and also our first match report too. As we play our first match tonight, I'd best be off to training.

PBC Sports: SportsCentral
SportsCentral is a sports news show

HOST, SAM GOODSON:Hello and Welcome to SportsCentral! It's the top of the hour and the WLC is underway tomorrow. Matchday 1 will be played in and against. After last year's upset lost in the first round. Camwood is looking for more, and all players are hungry for a win! One of the hungriest, Midfielder Craig Bedford is one the phone now.

GUEST CRAIG BEDFORD: Hey Sam, thanks for having me.

GOODSON: No prob, Graig thanks for coming. I'm going to start out by asking you who the most intimidating nation in your group?

BEDFORD: Newmanistan. It's the same for any tournament, Newmanistan is the titan of world sports. It's not going to be problem. Newmanistan has baseball, Camwood has baseball. We've been working hard and will not let it get to our heads.

GOODSON: Alright. Do you think you can make it to the knockouts?

BEDFORD: Yes here's why. There's nobody very impressive in our group aside from Newmanistan. No offense but nine out of ten nations agree. Even if we can't finish first a second will likely get us to the playoffs.

GOODSON: And also, Do you think there will ever be pro lacrosse in Camwood

BEDFORD: Yes. There will probably be a an two or four team league for lacrosse. Many good sportsmen say this won't happen. But if the sport countinues to grow as it is now there will be a demand for Major League lacrosse.

GOODSON: Thanks Graing good to here from you! Stick around! Racing Rendavous.

Not the Start we wanted but we'll take it
It wasn't the start Coach La Huey said he wanted but he'll take it. "It's been two years since anyone in our country has played this game at a professional level, so I wasn't surprised at the end result. We made a few errors, but over all this game showed that Crolacia's win didn't come easy. Though we're 0-1 and last in our group we're not that far behind the other three."
Other than the loss, the home crowd numbered very few only 890 fans came out to see their national team play Crolacia. Even though ticket prices were very cheap, Coach La Huey had something to say about this too, "I was very dispointed to see very few fans that weren't family of the team come out a cheer on their home team. 890 or something like that, it's only been two years since the NLL went broke yet this country has lost interest so fast? Well we have two home games left till the championship heads off towards Civil Citizenry I'd like to see that rise at lest by 500 and by then I hope we've won at lest two games till then." Coach La Huey was asked how many games the team might win, he said the team might be able to win at lest three to five." Coach La Huey's over all record is now 54-13. 0-1 in international play.

Our Group 2 Predictions
Mangolana 7-2
West Guiana 5-4
Crolacia 3-6
Jamalon 2-7

Next up WG plays at Mangolana, our prediction is however WG might just lose as Mangolana is by far a better team so we'll give them that game 15-8.

"Hey! WLC XII began today..."
"...WLC...What?"

submitted by drag0nfan4life

It is times like these when I wish I lived in a nation like Mytannion. A nation where, when eating out, lacrosse would be the sport playing on the TV. A nation where lacrosse players are treated like superstars. A nation where lacrosse actually holds value in the culture of the nation. Yes, in Mytannion I would be treated disdainfully because of my allegiance to the Dragons, but at least I would be able to sit back and enjoy a game of lacrosse without having to pay $12 per month for some fancy-ass Lacrosse TV Channel Package!

It's no secret that lacrosse means nothing in Cosumar. In Cosumar, lacrosse is like that homeless man living in your alley - most people know it's there, but no one really cares about it. So, as everyone on this site should know, the World Lacrosse Championships started last night. It created a huge buzz on this particular place in cyberspace, but everywhere else in Cosumar it seems that the kicking-off of WLC XII went relatively unnoticed. Honestly, it's saddening people. CSBN conducted a nation-wide poll pertaining to the World Lacrosse Championships recently. Of all surveyed Cosumarites, only 21% had heard of the World Lacrosse Championships. Furthermore, only 7% of people knew that the 12th edition was starting this month. Pitiful, just pitiful.

That's why this year, more than any other year, I'm really hoping that our Dragons would win the World Lacrosse Championships. Or at least make a pretty big splash. The sport we love needs a revival here. Newfound success would, of course, draw attention to the sport and could spark some renewed interest. Hey, it worked for soccer when Cosumar qualified for the first time. And since it's a relatively short tourney (9 games) all of them count, and it is imperative to get off to a good start. Which, thankfully, Cosumar did last night against Armorgames.

Coach McDougle and his Dragons procured an 11-7 victory over the young squad from Armorgames (their most senior player is 22). Star attacker Tracy Sheppard, God's sacred gift to Cosumar, scored 6 of the team's 11 and has set the pace for the entire tournament. Thus, Cosumar sits at first place in Group 7 at the moment. It's as good of a start as we could have asked for. Hell, the local news even aired a 20 second review of the game after it's extensive coverage of Middle School Football! Go Dragons!

Counting Our Chickens Before They Hatch
submitted by blueheartdave92

Amongst my friends and family I have a strong reputation of being an optimist, so my hopeful opinions may not mean much, but I honestly believe that we have a really good chance of winning the World Lacrosse Championships this time. WLC 8 didn't work out well for us, neither did 9, 10 or 11 for that matter. But World Lacrosse Championships 12 will be different. Why? Keep reading.

In my opinion, the main problem with all the other failed Cosumarite lacrosse teams, was their imbalance. Their was always one position the team was weak at, or the team was too old, or too inexperienced. This time, I think we've struck the happy medium - a perfect balance. Take a look at the roster. There's plenty of familiar faces - guys with experience playing against the cream of the crop in these Championships. Guys like Mitchell Hambry and Keenan Kurvat. Meanwhile, the roster showcases a lot of raw athleticism and young talent from more inexperienced players. Wesley Hill, Sean Barish, and Tyler Landis are still teenagers yet will be vital to the team's mission as they are guided by their older team mates.

Plus, we have the Big 3 - perhaps the biggest factor of them all. Never heard of them? Well, Cosumar's Big 3 conists of Erik DuPonte, Thomas Koma and Tracy Sheppard. It consists of 3 men who are largely considered the very best in the entire Fiefdom - but I'm pretty sure most readers will know that. DuPonte: the lightning fast goalie that has served Cosumar with excellence since WLC 8. Koma: the young Sarrbian native that at 23 is already Cosumar's most accomplished defender. Sheppard: the secret weapon. If there's a lacrosse player that the average Cosumarite would recognize, it's Mr. Sheppard. He's got everything - the speed, the moves, the power, and the intelligence.

And now for the final unhatched chicken - our schedule. I'd say it looks almost...easy. All the Dragons have to do is play the same three teams, three different times. Surely, after dueling an opponent a few times Coach McDougle could learn enough about them to devise an unbeatable gameplan, right? Anyways, the three teams are Armorgames, Tarrentum, and Allamunnic States. I'm not worried about Armorgames, they're just a bunch of college age kids. What chance do they have against foreign professionals? Tarrentum won't pose much of a threat either, they haven't even released a roster! What does that say about the efficiency of their staff? The only team to be concerned about here is that of the Allamunnic States. They've got two titles under their belt already.

So yeah, we have a pretty good team this year. But don't we say that every year? Why yes, yes we do. Maybe it's just the optimist in me, but something's saying that World Lacrosse Championships 12 is going to be one for Cosumar to remember.

The Crystal Ball Speaks
submitted by surpronukguy

I have read through several pages of The Blog Board, and I couldn't help that notice that everyone was talking about Cosumar. That is to be expected of course considering that this is a Cosumarite website, but no one was even discussing other teams outside of Cosumar's Group 7. I don't know about you, but I enjoy the whole experience of the World Lacrosse Championships, not just Cosumar's games, even though I do root for the Dragons. Thus, I've compiled my predictions for each of the eight groups in this year's tournament below. For each group, the teams are listed in order of projected finish. Enjoy.

Group 1: Mytannion, Bergnovinaia, Cyborg Holland, Gallund

I think it's clear that Mytannion, the former champions, are the front-runners of this group. Although, their program has declined slightly since their WLC 9 victory, they are still a dangerous team. Milo Tyrella may just be the best attacker in the tournament. Conversely, Gallund is a relatively unknown team is projected to bring up the rear. Not much is known about this team. Bergnovinaia and Cyborg Holland are both quality teams that will duke it out for second, but Bergnovinaia will emerge on top.

Group 2: West Guiana, Mangolana, Jamalon, Croacia

West Guiana isn't exactly known for its prowess in the sport, yet, there's something I like a lot about this team. I've always respected Hini La Huey as a Coach, and he has done a great job at developing this team, especially standout goalie Lee Scoot. WLC 11 co-hosts Mangolana will be successful as well, contending for 1st. However, I'm just not sure their aging roster will be able to keep up with the youthful exuberance of West Guiana. Jamalon and Croacia are both new teams that very little is known about. They will be fodder for the other two.

Group 3: Vulshain, Carmadin, Stuffed Taxidermists, Evoca

This will be a close group, as all of the squads but Evoca have a clear shot at taking 1st place. However, I think Vulshain should be the clear favorite here. Vulshain has always had strong sports programs, and the Shining Canines look superior to their competition, as evidenced by their 10-3 thrashing of Stuffed Taxidermists last night. Carmadin is new to the WLC, but they look promising. Their dramatic victory over Evoca has convinced me of their abilities. They will beat out Stuffed Taxidermists for 2nd.

Group 4: Wolfmanne, Camwood, Newmanistan, Bucknia

Group 4 may just be one of the most interesting. There is no clear cut favorite winner or loser. Wolfmanne appears strong coming off of their failed host bid, while Camwood is another promising young team similar to Carmadin. Traditional power Newmanistan may very well take the cake, but it will not be easy. WLC 1 was a long time ago. Bucknia, while not a bad team, does not have the tools to prevail over their three opponents in the long run.

Group 5: Churchma, Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuk, Jimmer Fredette, Ack Barnes

I like Churchma, they've always been a quality team and they look stronger than ever this year. No question who wins this group. Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuk (what a mouthful) is a very young team consisting of 17-22 year olds, yet, Danny Ford and Cal Fitch are two incredibly gifted athletes. I think they have what it takes to defeat a mediocre Jimmer Fredette team multiple times. Ack Barnes may just be the worst team in the event and will undoubtedly finish last.

Group 6: Civil Citizenry, Darmen, Gandham Islands, Ruadha

Group 6 might just have the most obvious winner of any group. Hosts Civil Citizenry have done well in past editions and will play 6 of their 9 games at home this year. Darmen is the only other nation that could pull it off, but I don't think Dilbert Alexander's squad is quite ready for the challenge. Gandham Islands over Ruadha for third by a hair.

Group 7: Allamunnic States, Cosumar, Armorgames, Tarrentum

Allamunnic States seems to be the clear choice in Group 7. They were WLC 7 champs and WLC 11 runner-up, and have a truly powerful team. It breaks my heart not to put Cosumar first, but I simply cannot see us knocking off a perennial power like Allamunnic States. Hopefully this prediction will be proven wrong. Armorgames is a newer team with potential, but they will not be able to hold their own against Cosumar or Allamunnic States. Tarrentum is a solid team, and it is odd to put them in last, but they are the weakest team in the group. Group 7 is the most difficult Group this year, it seems.

Group 8: Cotdelapoms, The Kytler Peninsulae, Delaclava, Monfortia

If there is a group more difficult than Group 7, it is Group 8. Delaclava and Cotdelapoms are both nations that have had success in the past, while The Kytler Peninsulae is a newer team receiving a lot of hype and praise from analysts. I could not decide with this group, but judging from watching previous WLCs, I'm going to go with Cotdelapoms as the Group leader. The rest is just a wild goose chase. I'll buy into the hype around The Kytler Peninsulae for now and place them second ahead of Delaclava with Monfortia bringing up the rear.

My Upcoming Quest to Cosumaquest
submitted by LacrosseStud

Cosumaquest Stadium: the glorious home of Cosumarite lacrosse, where legends have been made the Dragons have had their butts handed to them time and time again in the World Lacrosse Championships. For Cosumarite lacrosse fans like me, Cosumaquest Stadium is a sacred place. It is one of my life's goals to walk on that field - where the Dragons have been eliminated from tournament after tournament after tournament! And next week I may get the chance to do just that!

Their domination of Armorgames was a great start to what better be could be Cosumar's first WLC to advance past group play. However, Coach McDougle and his Dragons will have their first real test at Cosumaquest Stadium next week against former champs Allamunnic States. It'll be interesting to see how good, or bad, this Dragons team really is! And I'll be there to witness it.

That's right. Be jealous. This dragonlacrosse.cos member will be one of 31,500 in attendance next week watching one of the greatest lacrosse teams ever clashing with my favorite lacrosse team ever. Whichever team wins will gain the upper hand in the group standings. Although it is early on in the tournament - it is a critical game as both sides are seeking to establish themself as the team to beat and maintain high confidence.

And what's more, my seats are practically on the first row, smack dab in the middle of the home side. Perfect fucking seats. I'll be in perfect position to watch some of my lacrosse idols - guys I've looked up to my whole life: Tracy Sheppard, Erik DuPonte, as well as some of the Allamunnic athletes like Zak Mueller and Joanna Sommers. Allamunnic States is known for it's defense, while Cosumar is known for it's offense. I can't wait to bask in the glory of Cosumaquest Stadium as I witness this unique matchup of traditional defensive powerhouse vs. up-and-coming quick scoring team. My gut tells me it'll be a good day for Cosumar, so go Dragons!
