Leaked AFF memo: IUCC Executive Board told to cease activity

A leaked Football Federation of Ad’ihan memorandum seen by the media has suggested that the Executive Board overseeing the International University Challenge Championship has been told to shut down in order to save costs.

The IUCC, which has run for 31 editions and was billed as the premier international football competition for schools and universities, has fallen into ill-administration, with the 32nd edition of the tournament not taking place as scheduled. The AFF is understood to want the IUCC Executive Board to be independently-administered, in Ad’ihan or otherwise, as part of their annual budget recommendations which say the AFF stands to save up to 15 million Tazos every competition cycle by dumping the money-losing tournament from its stable.

The IUCC Executive Board, which in 31 editions has only ever been administered by the AFF and the Vephrese Collegiate Sporting Alliance, is understood to be interested in a possible tie-up with the Union of International Club Associations, the body based in Aeropag, Paripana which currently runs the four major international club competitions, in which the IUCC Executive Board could theoretically be absorbed by the UICA and be run as a committee within the UICA.

The IUCC, which is currently out of a sponsor following the end of its contract with the Aeropag Tribune, is not expected to survive without the funding it receives from the AFF and the Executive Board's director, Peter Thompson, has said that the immediate future of the tournament is at the present time of a higher priority than running the long-delayed 32nd Challenge Championship.

"Until we're financially viable and secure for the future, I find it unlikely that fans will be able to enjoy a 32nd International University Challenge Championship. We've seen a steady decline in teams entering the competition and with that a fall in attendance and viewership figures, and unfortunately there just are not a lot of full-fledged college or university football leagues out there right now to ensure the IUCC remains a viable competition.

"What the Board is hoping for is that any tie-up with the UICA might provide us with some proper cash flow, a new sponsor, and hopefully more interest in the competition globally. As it stands I count only entrants from Paripana into the 32nd championship, and obviously we aren't going to run a tournament with just three Paripanan clubs.

"If we can't work out an agreement with the UICA it's likely we'll do one final tournament featuring the past winners of the championship and we'll lay it to rest, hoping that it will make a return some time in the future."

Showcasing just how close the five or so places around the relegation zone is Juahzhou's (who were recently in the lower echelons of mid-table) 2-1 defeat at the hands of Beningrad leaves them outside of the relegation zone in seventeenth place, but level on points with eighteenths placed Fenians. Fenians themselves claimed a crucial 4-1 win over a Heathfield City side just a place, but now five points below them.

SNFA Cup quarter-finals

Of the four clubs remaining in the SNFA Cup after the quarter-finals, three ply their trade in the top division. Though arguably only one of those will be doing so next season. Whilst stating that going into the semi-finals all remaining clubs will be desperately wanting to win the trophy may be rather stating the obvious, but it is something that holds particularly true this season. For Snowspire, whilst still in second, the Cup is by far their better chance of a trophy, for Heathfield City and Rode Ster the Cup has proved the only highlight of poor seasons, whilst for An Blascaod Mór any foray deep into the later rounds is always a huge success, and with them currently sitting high in Division Two a trip to the James Connolly Stadium could prove to be a perfect way to celebrate a great season.

Just when Beningrad go and try to make the title run in exciting by dropping points Snowspire go and spoil the fun by losing and actually increasing Beningrad's lead to seven points. With their vastly superior goal difference Beningrad would now need to drop over a point a game to lose the title.

At the other end of the table Rode Ster claimed a morale boosting, and equally demoralising for Heathfield City 5-0 victory. That Rode Ster need to make up a twelve points gap to safety from a remaining possible twenty-one points means they are likely only postponing their demotion.

One might have expected Heathfield City to go into freefall following their thrashing at the hands of Rode Ster last weekend, however they claimed what could be a vital 2-0 win over Red Star Cork to get themselves four points from safety and significantly increase their chances of survival. A draw between Snowspire and Areck Furness meanwhile leaves Beningrad needing to a severe loss of form to fail to retain the league title having moved 9 points clear.

With Beningrad having gone eleven points clear at the top of the table, the interest in the run in looks to be at the bottom of the table and about who will get which UICA places. Having been among the bottom three for much of the season Heathfield United look to be safe, despite a 5-1 loss whilst their City rivals and Rode Ster look all but doomed. Juahzhou joining those two would be no surprise but with just three points separating them from safety and a reasonable goal difference for their position their relegation is by no means sealed.

Beningrad, Snowspire, Areck Furness and East Reading have occupied the four UICA spots for much of the latter half of the season, and whilst Beningrad can confirm their Champions' Cup victory next week, Corcaigh and Castrograd two and four points behind Furness and East Reading (and a further two each behind Snowspire) could be in with a late claim for a Globe Cup place at least.

So farewell then Rode Ster, and congratulations to our champions elect, Beningrad.

Whilst a 0-0 draw leaves Baile an Fheiréaraigh in the thick of a survival fight, it was too little for Rode Ster to retain any chances of surviving. Juahzhou's 2-0 victory over Heathfield City's meanwhile moves them up to seventeenth, though only precariously, with goal difference currently keeping them in the division.

Whilst Beningrad claiming the title had been inevitable for a number of weeks now, Snowspire's failure to beat Corcaigh combined with a 2-1 victory for Beningrad in a capital derby finally confirmed it mathmatically.

Having looked likely title contenders in mid-season East Reading could find themselves not even playing in UICA competition next season after a 1-1 draw against Snowspire saw them fall to fifth with James Connolly SC taking fourth. Worse for East Reading was that Snowspire, with the title gone and one eye on the upcoming SNFA Cup semi-final fielded a weakened team. Beningrad put four past Heathfield City to take their goal tally for the season a hundred.

SNFA Cup semi-finals

Having played a weakened side in their previous match Snowspire's tactics backfired on them with Dermot Wolfetone goal sending them out of the SNFA Cup. In the other tie Rode Ster Amsterdam overcame An Blascaod Mór side who look likely to be playing at a higher level than either of the finalists will be next season with a 2-1 win.

Heathfield City more than played their part in a thrilling 4-4 draw with Sparrowbottom, it however wasn't to be enough as the gap between them extended to eight points, thus condemning them to the drop.

With just one match remaining three of the four UICA places decided by league position are still to be decided, though Snowspire are guaranteed at least a fourth place finish and with it at least a place in the Globe Cup. East Reading, who are guaranteed at least a Globe Cup place, sit two points behind Snowspire and are the only competition for the second Champions' Cup place. James Connolly SC meanwhile sit in the second Globe Cup place, with Castrograd and Areck Furness both still able to catch them.

At the bottom Juahzhou all but secured safety with a 2-1 home win against Baile an Fheirtéaraigh. Whilst they can still finish level on points with the final relegation place, such is their goal difference that it would need an incredible swing for them to go down. The three clubs battling for their safety in the final match are therefore Felland Marsh, Baile an Fheirtéaraigh and Fenians.

And so here we are, at the end of the season. All three clubs in danger of joining Heathfield City and Rode Ster in Division Two next season did the necessary and claimed victories, Baile an Fheirtéaraigh arguably being given an easy task by a youthful Beningrad reserve side, meaning that it was Fenians who took the final relegation place.

Snowspire's Champions' Cup qualification was somewhat simplified by having bottom placed Rode Ster for their final match. James Connolly SC moved up into third whilst East Reading held onto fourth despite their defeat for the two Globe Cup places.

SNFA Cup final

To end the season the small matter of the cup final. There's no getting away from the fact that this season at least, but these sides are poor sides, and that was hugely evident in a final in which both teams clearly deflated from the season past appeared keen to get the season over and done with. A sixty-fifth minute goal from Rowina van Haandel, one of the few if only Rode Ster player to come out of the season with an enhanced reputation, and indeed whether the lure of Globe and Cygnus Cup football resulting from this win can keep her with Rode Ster remains to be seen, though at twenty it's not as if she can't wait.

The teams from Pays de Horreur dominated the East Rushmore Premier League once again with the top 5 places being grabbed by Horreur sides. Breaking into the top 6 Lua Vamoa’s surprise package Ismbard Celtic, the little known club from the capital exceeded all expectations and claimed a place in the international football competitions, followed by Pocoan owned Go Sushi Apo’olo. The islands of Palacios and Rodallega had to settle for a top 8 finish with the Tingley Allstars becoming their top placed side.

At the bottom Bleufontaine Pirates narrowly avoided being the worst team of the season, edging out Shrewshill Lions on goal difference.

Top team from each league qualifies for the Naming Rights All-Ansernia Islands Championship (the Ansernian Football Association claims that the Naming Rights moniker is merely a filler until a replacement sponsor is found after previous sponsors Qasarian Bank defaulted on payments) to decide the national champions and TQCC qualifiers. The Hibernean champions play in the semi-final against whichever of the Inisealan or Westernean champions gets the lower average points per game during the league, whilst the one with the higher average gets a bye to the final. The two losers of the Championship qualify for the Globe Cup.

Procedural notes

UICA has accepted the entries of the Ansernian Football Association, despite their arrival tens of seconds after the stated deadline.
UICA has denied the entries of the Ad’ihani Football Federation and Football Association of Liventia to the Chronowire Series B Champions’ Cup, on the grounds that the teams entered did not qualify through participation in a second-tier competition.
A UICA intern, believed to be descended from a Dancougarite refugee, somehow managed to omit several teams from the original draws of both the TakilQuip Champions’ Cup and Chronowire Series B Champions’ Cup. Only the corrected draws are shown. The votes for the final sites were unaffected.
Subsequently, UICA received notice that the Confederação Cafundelense de Futebol Masculino had changed its entries for the Chronowire Series B Champions’ Cup. These teams have been replaced, but otherwise the second draw has been left intact.
The draw for the TakilQuip Champions’ Cup first preliminary round is unseeded, since Kericia City (KER) is the only club in the round with a non-zero coëfficient.

Globe Cup final stadium:

With so few options to choose between, the director responsible for selecting the venue got so sad that he begun to cry over the files of the stadia. He couldn't stop crying, and during this sad moment he didn't notice that his tears were removing the ink from the papers. The only one that was still readable when he finally stopped was then, as usual, seen as the chosen one. So, the venue will be the Estadio Sango, in San Pablo, Aguazul (cap. 23,000). Globe Cup organizers are willing to make an arrangement with the stadium owners and make the stadium bigger for the final. If the arrangement is accepted, the stadium capacity will be of 40,000 at the time of the final.

Having watched our poor kiddos playing their first international competition, the NCFA must be breathing a sigh of relief they did not join the international level of competition with the clubs just yet. Next cycle of tournaments, maybe.

After losing a coach (who now will be going to relegated South Holland) and a third of their team in the offseason, Sussex County was expected to fall into a race for relegation. Instead, the Daisys pick up their second straight National Premiers, holding off long time rival and the team the nation loves to hate in the process. Mind you, York won the Championship/Relegation ten-match split, but Sussex held on for the two-point victory thanks to their impressive regular-season form, which saw them defeat the Bulls in York for the first time. Astur continues their push back to the top of the standings, with these Reds gaining their best finish in the NCFA format. Star Point took advantage of the drop-battle, as they move up from 7th to 4th with a near sweep of their lesser rivals at the expense of Orleans and Red Star, who both dropped bellow several teams who played off to avoid relegation. The National Premier Alliance is in talks over the issue, but are expected not to change the format just yet.

Red became the first club from the St. John's FC colorbloc to win promotion to the top flight in a decade, and also won their first city title in just as long in a spirited fight with Port Elizabeth. In terms of final promotion, Douala earned the right to keep their seat with a battle against Port Elizabeth. And to the surprise of really no one in the state, the Porters failed to capitalize on their good fortunes, falling to the Waves in the two-legged battle.

Division 1 saw random infighting between squads and a mad dash for promotion, with Bishop Saints having to come from behind twice in the final match of the season to stave off rival Rangers for 4th place and the bump to the Championships. Energy and Auxia both made quick rebounds to the Championships after the disappointing seasons last year, while fellow dropper Greens saw the dreaded double bounce as they fall to Division 2.

In Division 2, constant struggler Sanfei scored their first ever promotion to Division 1 in commanding fashion, winning their first title in club history in the process. More interesting was the fight for the final slot to promotion, as the Saints held off three clubs relegated last year to win promotion. while long-time residents Hiberian and Sion will be dropping to the Counties next year, the league will welcome 5 clubs up for the first time: Free State, Pietrsberg Union, Olympic Neuchantel as well as two more of the St. John's colorbloc - Orange and Cardinal

The 2000 Kodiak Cup and Premier Leagues Cup will be happening for the first time before the season starts, in order to give all teams a better chance to warm up. 1999 NC Champion York wasn't thrilled with the move but was the only no-vote within the 100-member group this season to vote against the calendar change. The Federated Division will also start their own cup series this upcoming year to rival the Premiers, with the Fed Cup champion playing the Premiers Champion in the National Challenge at the end of the season.

Mahathu's Number One English Language Daily

Mahathu to Host 28th TakilQuip Champions' Cup Final

Qichechumadia Zhabi - Most readers will be able to gather at a first glance of our small newspaper that we are based out of the capital of the Federation of Kagdazka and Pazhujebu, Mahathu... it's not that hard to figure out. And some readers may know from previous readings that our clientele tend to hold favorable opinions of a certain football club that plays some of its matches here... Kuratmad Angels. So you all will surely forgive us if we express our personal opinions about the announcement that the TQCC Final is to take place in the Kuratmad District at Angels' 66,000-seat home stadium, the Praça de Prata: HOORAY!

Yes, we're thrilled here at the Herald, and we'll be with you to cover every aspect of the match when it does arrive. In the meantime, the city of Mahathu is beginning preparations. Hotels are being cleaned and refitted, the monorail and metro services refurbished, and the boat services to the Kuratmad District vastly expanded, as there is no direct air service to Mahathu (the nearest airport is in Pkethat Šede on Šede Island; ferries regularly run in between Pkethat Šede and Mahathu).

Our only regret is that Angels finished fourth from bottom in last season's KPFA League First Division, and though that wasn't poor enough to see them relegated (thank god), it was self-evidently nowhere near the UICA spots, and so we won't be seeing Angels on their home pitch in the final. If it's any consolation, we won't be seeing any team from the Federation at the Praça de Prata for the final; the only teams left in UICA competitions at the time of printing are Juvapanam and Yastrabi, and neither of them are in the TQCC (anymore, as in the case of Juvapanam).

For foreign readers' edification, let us undergo a review of the stadium. The Praça de Prata is a 66,000-seat stadium in the Kuratmad District of Mahathu. Architecturally, it is similar in design to the rest of Kuratmad, with austere black volcanic stone the primary building element. As a sign of the district's traditional financial affluence and as an homage to the primary color of its home team, the stadium is also adorned with rubies all about its exterior. The stadium has (again, like the district in is located in) many right angles in its design, which gives it a slightly primitive ancient-temple-like look. The overall shape of the stadium is rather like a heart, tilted on its side, with parts lopped off. A massive and towering eastern stand, at the "bottom" of the heart, rises into the Mahathu skyline. This is where the die-hard Angels ultras usually sit. The southwestern stand is the only major curve in the architecture and the curvature results in this stand having the best view, but you have to pay for it; tickets here aren't cheap. Finally, the northern stand is broken up into several jaggedly divided compartments. These are the worst seats in the Praça de Prata and that's why away fans are typically forced in here. Of course, all of these traditional seating assignments will be thrown out of whack when two neutral sides come here.

Why, you might be wondering, does the stadium have a Portuguese name, when no one in the Federation speaks Portuguese? Long ago, when the stadium was first being built and the Pazhujeb Islands were still in their early days, a pair of teenagers named the Hardy Boys showed up in the country in search of something called the Silver Square. Incidentally, at the time of their visit the 25th Baptism of Fire was occurring and so the term Silver Square became quickly associated with football. So fans began referring to the plaza outside of the new stadium as "Silver Square." A few years later, a young grad student who was preparing for a study abroad trip to Cafundéu began referring to the stadium and its plaza as the Praça de Prata (Silver Square in Portuguese) to friends, and for some reason this name swept the city. Soon, the stadium's name was officially changed to the Portuguese version. Now Angels justify the name after the fact by declaring an homage to the rich history of Portuguese-speaking nations (chiefly, Cafundéu) in the NSsport universe.

Sorthern Football League champions Beningrad marched through the knockout phase like a Benin, upsetting past Champions’ Cup winners Tallyn Rovers and Petardos S/A on the road to Mahathu. While Beningrad will be the first team to represent Sorthern Northland in a Champions’ Cup final, Hatton Town will be the third different club to represent Ad’ihan (after Olympique Protectorat and Tallyn Rovers), but the first to do so in a final not held in Paripana. With Ad’ihan ranked eighth among associations and Sorthern Northland tenth, this is the very first time that none of the top six leagues have been involved in football’s world championship match.

Well, this is the moment where things get real. The four big winners from A and B Series enter at this point, after some teams have been weeded out. We don't know if going down so hard in their TQCC debut got to them, but São Perebano is out at the first hurdle, after winning the championship. The orange and white was defeated by a struggling Máfia FC, fresh out of relegation to the Ç Series. As for the other three, second-placed Gruzeiro and third AC dos Zumbi met right away, and the latter goes ahead. Chapeleta de Desportos, the winner of B Series, defeated Patético Balangandense without much trouble. Globe Cup entrant Paraguay SC manhandled Primos do Macaco Tião with ease as well.

The recently promoted from Ç Series Coelhinhas FC sent the A Series Limão FC packing in what may be the biggest upset of this round. Another A Series team who leaves the championship for a last division outfit is Cebola Mol. A late goal from visitors Vovó Clotilde ended their cup run in front of their home crowd.

TakilQuip Champions’ Cup 29: The number of teams allowed is determined according to league coefficients, with the following distribution:

Associations ranked 1–3 (Cafundéu, Valanora, and Capitalizt SLANI) are allowed to enter four teams.
Associations ranked 4–6 (Jasĭyun, Estresse Intenso, and Krytenia) are allowed to enter three teams.
Associations ranked 7–30 (Ad’ihan, Sorthern Northland, Aguazul, Sargossa, Zarbli, Pasarga, Valladares, Virçais, The Babbage Islands, Candelaria And Marquez, West Zirconia, Queer Poco el Mono Ara, Starblaydia, Tarrentum, Sarzonia, Osarius, Eastfield Lodge, Liventia, Delaclava, Whirl Islands, Kagdazka and Pazhujebu, and Mytannion), excluding those that are third-ranked associations from multiassociational leagues (Association francophone and Jesselton), are allowed to enter two teams.
Associations ranked 31 and below, and unranked associations, are allowed to enter one team.
Special considerations:
- Beningrad is assured a place as the title-holder. If it fails to qualify for one of Sorthern Northland’s two places, it will receive an additional place.
- Élite League: Has seven places. Capitalizt SLANI must enter at least three teams, and Jasĭyun at least two.
- Liga Calania: Has five places. Krytenia must enter at least two teams, and one other association must enter at least one team.
- Joint Unified System Tournament: Has four places. Ad’ihan and one other association must each enter at least one team.
- Cyanea Joint League: Has four places, which must be filled by teams from two separate associations.

Globe Cup 26: Every association is allowed to enter three teams. Multiassociational leagues may enter six teams, of which no more than four may be from the same association.
Chronowire Series B Champions’ Cup 26: Every association is allowed to enter four teams. Multiassociational leagues may enter eight teams, of which no more than six may be from the same association.

The deadline for entry to TakilQuip Champions’ Cup 29 and Chronowire Series B Champions’ Cup 26 is very tentatively set for Sunday, 2011-02-20. The deadline will be confirmed or altered closer to that date.

Beningrad Morning Star

TQCC manager hails former team while captain apologises for celebrations

With his Beningrad squad set to return to Sorthern Northland as Sporting Heroes of the Nation following their 1-0 extra-time victory over Ad'ihani side Hatton Town, victorious manager Winston Muscat was keen to hail the role of his former club in Beningrad becoming the first Sorthern club to lift the TakilQuip Champions’ Cup.

Muscat having previously managed St. Patrick's made his name during seven seasons spent managing Port of Clotaire in the Candelaria And Marquez Soccer Championship (CMSC) almost leading the team to the league title in the final season before the collapse of the league.

Interviewed shortly after watching his side being presented with the TQCC trophy Muscat said “This win isn't just about us. With Snowspire having made the Globe Cup semis, New Ireland having only fallen in the Series B Champions' Cup final after a penalty shoot-out and Areck Furness winning the Cup Winners [Cygnus] Cup last season it's been a fantastic couple of years for Sorthern football, and hopefully that'll carry on in the future.”

“For me though I'd like to dedicate this win to Port of Clotaire, and particularly the staff and the people in Clotaire who made my time there so wonderful.”

“After the unfortunate events in Candelaria And Marquez we never had the chance to build upon what had been our best season, but instead I've come over here with much of my staff and players like Hoops [Will Hooper] and been able to achieve this.”

“And we couldn't have achieved it without Port of Clotaire. It was there that I learnt how to manage a top level team and it was there that the likes of Hoops developed into the world class players without whom we wouldn't be champions of the world now.”

“In some ways, I think we've been able to carry on the spirit of Port of Clotaire and for that I hope that they are able to share in our success and indeed I hope that some day they will return and enjoy similar success.”

Meanwhile Will Hooper, who as Beningrad captain lifted the Champions’ Cup has in his first interview since the final apologised to locals in the Pazhujeb Islands for his behaviour during a long night of celebrations.

Hooper, who was found by the Morning Star asleep in a bush on Šede (a larger neighbour to Mahthu, the island on which the final was actually played), had been reported to have spent much of the night riding on the nations' monorail services whilst repeatedly chanting “Like a motherfucking Benin, bitches!”.

Hooper, who was also unaware of how exactly he had made it from Mahthu to Šede said, “If I did cause any offence to anyone with my actions last night, then I'd very much like to apologise. Obviously it was a very big occasion for us and something which we celebrated very keenly. I hope that anything I said or did was taken in the spirit in which it was intended in, which was nothing but good natured and would indeed like to thank the locals here for their terrific hospitality during our stay.”

The talismanic playmaker also denied that the Champions’ Cup trophy had been lost during the night, insisting that he had given it to defender Kaeton Fishsnapperbottom. Fishsnapperbottom however denies ever having had possession of it since its last known sighting during which striker Quentin Gorrie was using it as a makeshift container for his celebratory beer.
