Football Association of Central Esportiva announces 26-man squad for World Cup 102 Qualifiers
Image
7 OCTOBER - ORANJESTAD --The Football Association of Central Esportiva (FACE) has announced the 26 players that will be representing the Sun and Moon over the course of the World Cup 102 Qualifiers following the selections of head coach Sun Yongheng.

The qualifiers will take place over the winter break as Central Esportiva prepares to face her opponents in Group 3. Home games will take place at the Triune Stadium in Hoogemolen, while away matches will take place in the opponent's respective stadiums.

After a disappointing run of games in the latest Campionato Esportiva and Baptism of Fire, the Celestials will be looking to make their mark internationally in their first ever appearance in the World Cup, with newly-hired coach Sun Yongheng spearheading the team through the course of the qualifiers.

"It will definitely be tough," Mr Sun said in a private interview, "Facing some of the world's best as rookies will definitely be a challenge for everyone involved, but I believe that we will thrive through the hardship and burst onto the scene.

The Celestials will face Srednjaci at home for their first matchday on 29 November. Get your match tickets here.

The Central Esportivan National Team: All you need to know about The Celestials
Profile: Know more about us!
For the uninitiated, Central Esportiva is a large country located in the centre of Esportiva (shocking). It is technically a federation of three constituent nations: Yangguo, Zuidland, and Miko, all of which are distinct demographically, culturally and geographically. Nevertheless, history (colonialism) has brought the three countries under one Central Esportivan flag. Depending on where you are in the nation, you might hear Chinese, Dutch or Karen, but most Central Esportivans go by with English especially in interracial conversations. The Sun and Moon are the two prominent iconographies of Central Esportiva; they hold significant importance in the cultures of Central Esportiva, and they lend their names/likenesses to the nickname of the country and national team. Speaking of which…

While Central Esportiva may not be a footballing nation in the most commonly-used sense of the word, the nation of Sun and Moon is definitely slightly insane about football, and they have been for at least the past 75 to a hundred years. After being introduced into the country by Esportivan foreigners, football has grown to be Central Esportiva's most popular sport, pipping the cult classic in the country: motorsports. However, despite the nation's fervour for football, it has not translated into the international scene at all, with Central Esportiva only starting to participate in regional and international competitions within the past year. Nevertheless, as the Sun and Moon finally step onto the world stage, maybe it's time to give way to a potential footballing great.

The brand of football Central Esportiva plays has varied over the years, but in recent times it has solidified into one recognisable trait: fluid passing. While the manager's philosophy in other aspects may differ, Central Esportiva’s coaches tend to employ a style of football emphasising on control of possession through passing. It could take on a more attack-minded approach with fast, counterattacking long passes that break the opponent’s defensive line, or it could be more defensively coded with passes to control the midfield and exploit the space left by opponents who veer off position.

Nickname: The Celestials, or, more rarely and pretentiously, the Children of the Sun and Moon
Team colours: Black, white, (sometimes) maroon
Main team song: The Nights - (Not) Avicii
Style modifier: +2.5

Players and staff: Who's representing us?
Head coach: Sun Yongheng
Assistant coaches: Helen Poort, Talitha Koot, Gregory Promes
Goalkeeping coach: Eric Hoogendijk
Fitness and performance manager: Marion Houben
Physiotherapists: Jan Anderiesen, Donna Engelen
Doctors: Nathan Van der Veer, Elise De Goede
Performance analyst: Alperen Aandewiel

Preferred formation: 4-5-1 in defence, 4-3-3 in attack

Sun Yongheng’s playstyle uses the midfield as the backbone of the team, helping both the backline and the lone striker in attack. In defence, the team takes up a 4-5-1 formation, with the defensive midfielder(s) helping the centre backs out. The midfield’s job is to shut down any opposition chances before they can make it to the defence, and the defence just have to do what they do best, prevent the opposition from ever taking a shot at goal. In attack, however, the team will transition into a 4-3-3, with the wide midfielders taking up a more advanced position. However, Sun’s playstyle emphasises build-up passing play. This means that the front three will usually drop down to contribute to the buildup, with them and the rest of the midfield creating passing and attacking chances by slotting into spaces left unattended. Meanwhile, the back four mostly just stay back, forming a relatively low block. The fullbacks will aid the wide midfielders if needed, although they aren’t expected to contribute much to the attack.

Due to Sun’s focus in ball retention and movement off the ball, attacks may appear slow as players look for the perfect pass and attacking opportunity. Nevertheless, the team is also ready to play pure counterattacking football if the opponent’s defence is patchy enough. When it comes to the central midfielders, Sun may choose to field a combination of 1 CDM/2 CM or vice versa depending on the opponent.

Goalkeepers
#1 // Renzo HOUTZAGER // M // 26yo // Armour Oranjestad
#12 // Andren VAN DER BROEK // M // 31yo // VV Notre Dame
#13 // REN Enxiang // M // 21yo // Jieshi Anping

In Sun’s system, goalkeepers are expected to be playmakers, starting the run of play whenever they have the ball. Usually, this entails passing short to a nearby defender instead of punting the ball further up the field.

Renzo Houtzager will be the main man between the posts during the course of the qualifiers. Blessed by the Holy Trinity (height, muscle, agility), Houtzager will be one of Central Esportiva’s most imposing figures. Andren Van der Broek was the team’s former starting keeper but has since taken on more of a mentor role, while Ren Enxiang is an emerging talent and the first goalkeeper from Yangguo to be called up to the national team.

Defenders
Leftback
#2 // Jordan VAN ALPHEN // M // 28yo // Silver Bridge
#16 // Mabel VAN TILBURG // F // 23yo // Armour Oranjestad
#18 // THAA Çie Xie E E // F // 24yo // FC De Nativitie

Centreback
#3 // CHEN Kang // M // 31yo // VK Sint-Joris
#4 // LI Sirui // M // 27yo // SV Holy Innocents
#14 // WANG Anya // F // 30yo // Silver Bridge
#24 // NGO See Blue Mi // F // 22yo // ZAS

Rightback
#5 // Matthias KRIJGSMAN // M // 29yo // Armour Oranjestad
#20 // Mari-anne SLAUERHOFF // F // 20yo // VV Notre Dame

Sun has decided to retain the defensive core of Central Esportiva, with familiar names such as Jordan Van Alphen, Chen Kang and Li Sirui appearing on the team sheet. Matthias Krijgsman, the captain of the national team, is a commander of men, and his experience over the years has made him a veteran and guide for the younger players. Nevertheless, the qualifiers have also introduced a number of younger promising talents into the fold such as Mabel Van Tilburg, Ngo See Blue Mi and Mari-anne Slauerhoff, and they will supplement the defence when needed.

As mentioned earlier, the back four will play a mostly defensive role, and they will not contribute much to the attack. This allows them to focus more on defense and shutting down opponent forwards.

Midfielders
Defensive midfielder
#6 // Jolene PAULUS // F // 32yo // SV Holy Innocents
#15 // Laurie VOETEN // F // 26yo // Armour Oranjestad
#19 // LI Khoe Pgie Çwie // F // 26yo // Go Mu TK

Central midfielder
#8 // JIA Leyuan // F // 27yo // Armour Oranjestad
#22 // O Jo Pgie Ue // M // 22yo // Jieshi Anping
#23 // LI Xunbo // M // 33yo // SV Utrechtertje

Left midfielder
#7 // Lucy VERBURG // F // 21yo // UCE
#9 // Vesper VAN DER HEIJDEN // M // 23yo // SV Holy Innocents

Right midfielder
#10 // LIN Kerui // M // 22yo // Armour Oranjestad
#21 // TANG Weiming // M // 32yo // Silver Bridge

The midfielders make up the majority of the national team, and for good reason. The midfield is integral to Sun’s playstyle, with them being the bridge between defense and attack. Players such as Jolene Paulus, Jia Leyuan and Lin Kerui are expected to control the midfield, while younger players like Lucy Verburg and O Jo Pgie Ue add vitality into the centre of the pitch.

Attackers
#11 // LIN Yufeng // M // 27yo // New Ersheng
#17 // Joy QUIST // F // 29yo // VK Sint-Joris
#25 // Samson VAN DOREN // M // 26yo // FE Oranjestad
#26 // Evan OCHSE // M // 23yo // VV Notre Dame

The attack comprises four of Central Esportiva’s best: Lin Yufeng and Joy Quist are extremely proficient in front of goal, with the both of them often battling for the Golden Boot in the domestic season. Samson Van Doren has one of the highest shot conversion rates, while Evan Ochse is an emerging gem amongst Central Esportiva’s attack.

Fans, culture and stadia
Central Esportivans may be divided amongst many issues, but football is the common denominator. Fans of the Celestials tend to travel in troves, and the size of a group of Central Esportivan fans alone can be very intimidating. While police crackdowns have deterred extreme ultra violence, hooliganism is still a problem amongst fans, especially younger ones.

The Celestials love a display. Elaborate tifos are present in almost every game, and flares are a common sight as well. Although fireworks are banned in stadiums, they may be lit around the stadium bh rowdier fans. The Celestials also love to sing. Instead of chanting, fans will usually sing one of many songs from their repertoire, although the stadium sometimes get quiet when fans are fatigued from singing.

In Central Esportiva, football culture and drinking culture are intertwined. Alcohol is regularly brought by patrons into games, and pubs and bars are regular gathering spots for fans to watch matches. It is (unfortunately) common for fights and crime to occur from intoxicated fans, but what can you do about it?

National team matches are usually played in the Triune Stadium in Hoogemolen and the Zuanchang in Zhoujing. However, due to the winter climate in Zhoujing, qualifier matches will be played entirely in Triune Stadium.

The Crpostranian Football Association
presents
The Sapphire Strikers
for
the World Cup 102 - Drawkland and the Holy Empire

After a good performance at the most recent edition of the IAC (fourth-place), Bakočević has earned a major lifeline to continue his stint as the national team's manager for a record 5th WC cycle. Some major names, the likes of defender Tadgan Bjarni, winger Leo Martin, and midfielder Morgan Rodgers has retired from international football. However, the most surprising exclusion from the squad would be former captain (WCQ101 cycle) and firey striker Sevastian Fionnbarra, who battled with injuries during the previous qualifying cycle, and has not properly got back into form during his unimpressive stint this season with Tikariotian club Carathyr Emeralds FC. All-round winger Klahan Wahid will continue to hold the captain armband, who is himself in hot form after getting into the Kanzlian TOTS this season thanks to his good run with 1899 Szbedansk. Crpostranian football is witnessing a major shakeup onshore though, as the CFA is preparing all stadiums and pitches to be match-ready for the upcoming (and long delayed) Crpostranian Super League project, wherein the nation's domestic football scene opens up to the multiverse. The CFA has also secured an agreement with the Women's Football Union to delay the creation of a co-ed football squad to the next World Cup cycle. The Crpostranian Football Association is also at loggerheads with both the Crpostranian Olympic Association and the Sports Ministry of Crpostran, as the latter two are pressuring the CFA to release top senior players for the upcoming Olympics. The team will be using the previous kits supplied by Nerio itself. Kits and info below.

The Olympikstadion
(70,000 capacity)
Crpostown, National Capital Territory, Crpostran

The oldest continuously used stadium in Crpostran, the Olympikstadion is the centerpiece around the new 400-acre Crpostown Olympic Enclave. The original arena was built by the later Aakri Empire as an arena for public gatherings, bullfighting, martial arts like kalarippyattu, gladiator fights, etc. Fast forward a few centuries, and the colonial Veridonian Empire conquered large swathes of the country. They repurposed and refurbished the stadium, adding grass fields, modern seating (for that era) and introduced a wide variety of sports (including football) into the country. Given the colonial nature of the stadium, it was a prime target for the independence movement, where eventually the Veridonian flag and the name board of the stadium were lit on fire, and was replaced by the Crpostranian flag. The stadium was promptly renamed into the Olympikstadion. The stadium got a major upgrade by the Ministry of Sports, upgrading it's capacity, retractable roofs, air-conditioned halls, restaurants and cafés, etc. Later on, a brand-new Olympic Enclave has been created around the stadium with the intention to host major multi-sport events in the capital. Due to CFA logistics issues amid a major revamp of domestic football, the Olympikstadion will be the only host stadium for the home games of this edition of the Qualifiers.

Summary
Kelssek's tactical culture is fluid and direct, generally favouring technical and versatile players.

Goalkeepers
Dominic Tessier GK, Latrobe Athletic, b. Latrobe (age 28) - 28 caps | Tall, commanding, aggressive. Has been the next goalkeeping talent for a long time now, and finally breaking through for both club and country.
Kasper Girolamo GK, CF Outineau on loan at Baskita [PAS] (age 25) - Widely seen as the next number one, at this point he's just a CF Outineau youngster who has been on loan to Baskita to get first team experience.
Jeanne Makarniz GK, Traal Athletics (age 35) - 1 cap | Enjoys sweeper-keeper adventures and true crime podcasts

Defenders
Trevor Cantwell LB, Raynor City United [VAL], b. Saintsport, NC (age 31) - 10 caps, 1 goal | Decent as a defender but definitely in the failed winger category of full-backs.
Bruno Reiher LB, Club ESF [VAL], b. Neorvins (age 22) - 0 caps
Jundon Shay LB, Strathcona Internationals, b. Vickery, CY - 0 caps
Sorcha Cleeves CB, Raynor City United [VAL], b. Langlois, BL (age 32) - 23 caps, 1 goal | Aggressive interceptor who's also often quicker than the forwards who try to dribble past.
Olivier Sansouci CB, CS Saint-Rémy, b. Saint-Rémy (age 28) - 0 caps | Bang average tackler but reads the game well and is impressive aerially.
Karel Paken Kirkenes FC, b. Mistwygn (age 19) - 0 caps
Sandrine Lalande CB, Mar Sara [VAL], b. Saint-Richard, BL (age 31) - 45 caps, 2 goals | Tough tackler also able to pinpoint a long ball through the lines.
Lourence Hupe CB, CF Outineau (age 29) - 20 caps | Elite positioning means she doesn't often have to put in one of her precise tackles.
Anton Zivkovic CB, Rockies International [INS], b. Ostendar, NCy (age 26) - 26 caps | Large defensive unit you don't want to go shoulder to shoulder with.
Volodymyr Casiraghi RB/LB, Océanic CF, b. Langlois (age 26) - 36 caps, 2 goals | Talented tackler with quick feet and pace.
Claudia Tolmach RB/CB, Rolalas [VAL], b. Breton, HG (age 27) - 6 caps
Catherine St-Cyr RB, Océanic CF, b. Beaupré-sur-Mer (age 22) - 0 caps
Daeved Rillter CB, Real Anasb [SAT], b. Novonaya, LP (age 25) - 3 caps | No-nonsense beefcake who is going to win most physical contests. Favourite anime is Attack on Leviticus Train: Industrial Policy
Taras Paulkin CB, Tikariot City [TKT], b. Kirkenes, NC (age 27) - 3 caps | Always has a keen eye to nip in for the intercept.

Midfielders
Titan Pogbacar CM, Mâ Âlâmëómë, b. Burnaby, Kon. (age 28) - 69 caps, 13 goals | Physically imposing and technically impressive ball-progresser who can really get on his bike.
Romy Métisser CM/AM, FC Capri, b. 14 Feb 179 (age 29) Saint-Rémy - 16 caps, 2 goals | Creative, technical, cultured midfielder in the sense that he's been to an opera once.
Aengus Gosling MC/LWB, Energija Chernovets [STL], b. Neorvins (age 28) - 5 caps | Ball-winning midfield destroyer, can also play wing-back.
Agapeto Licea CM/DM, Burnaby SC, b. Mineru, Kon. (age 29) - 70 caps, 2 goals | A strangely chaotic yet firm defensively-minded midfielder. Burnaby captain.
Ciyle McKinnon DM/CM, Clayquot City, b. Kenting Rush, ET (age 26) - 0 caps | Was captain of the Kelssek men's U23 team that won Olympic silver.
Sammy Mao RW/CF, Shearwater, b. Breton, Ha. (age 30) - 40 caps, 9 goals | Explosive pace and can cross or shoot from range.

Artemios Ostend LM/LW CS Saint-Rémy, b. 27 Jul 181 (age 27) - 17 caps, 3 goals Saint-Rémy | Rapid, high-skilled, deadly crosser
Roibéard Ó Cuinneagáin CM/AM - Norrion Rovers [EFL], b. Hamilton, NC (age 28) - 0 caps | Versatile and dogged, though best when playing from deep
Harry Toir CM, Latrobe Athletic (age 26) - 0 caps | High-strung, high-energy, and loves to chip it over the back-line.
Annamay Hunter AM/CF, Myana [CMT], (age 28) | Deep lying link-up forward who's also skilled at poaching rebounds
Ruslan Serelda LM/RM, Océanic CF, b. Wynleth-an-Glyndr, NC (age 23) - 0 caps
Mathilde Boudjelal CM, CF Outineau, b. Saint-Richard, BL (age 28) - 2 caps | Ball-winning dynamo who can get into trouble with lunging into tackles.

Forwards
Rémy Niemi ST, CF Outineau, b. Outineau, Bea. (age 29) - 60 caps, 25 goals | Adept at playing the target-man or poacher role. Doesn't know his used socks are being traded on the dark web.
Rian Teokotai AM/ST, Raynor City United [VAL], b. Outineau, Bea. (age 26) - 12 caps, 3 goals | A raw talent with an eye for volleys.
Mark Ravelli ST, Hoima Warriors [BNJ], b. Dalesky, Wen. (age 25) - 1 caps |
Rolando Cutter CF/LW, FC Felsenkirchen [STL], b. Kingstown, Kon. (age 29) - 68 caps, 22 goals | Was supposed to be the next Colm Ó Tuathail, and not really, but still a great technical player with a tendency to drift wide.
Loïc Toyotomi ST, Association Ariddienne, b. Outineau, Bea. (age 19) - 0 caps | Latest striker sensation to come from the streets of Outineau, broke through as the second division's top scorer as an 18-year old.
Hamo Stacey ST, Océanic CF, b. Catfields Creek, Lup. (age 26) - 0 caps | A Novonaya-bred wild stallion (figuratively).

Head coach: Ruslan Demetriev - Kelssek captain during the revival years, a hard-man reputation inferred from his formidably physical play as a defensive midfielder and occasional volcanic eruptions at press conferences which is far from the arm-around-shoulder coaching style he has behind the scenes. Spent 13 years as manager of Baskita in the Pasarga Superlig before being offered a job he couldn't refuse...

2025: New manager with cash takes Aśnen Mokeni from a seller club named United Bekenu.
2026: The team went onto the finals and finally defeated Wednesday via Aśnen. Due to recent arrangements, the winner can go onto the World Cup and BoF.
2026 BoF: Reached the semi-finals in a shocking turn of events before getting defeated and still defeating Tumnia in the playoffs.

Strategy & Tactics:

Using the highly aggressive 4-2-4 positioning and with the tactic of Give-and-go, i.e a player would have the ball, pass it on to another striker who would then run to get a goal via close range or penalty kick. In the case of defence, a low block would be built, although the team usually counts on aggressiveness as seen by the striker's quality, higher than that of a defender. (2+ score)

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers: Yes
Godmod scoring events: Yes, I will decide whether it counts and is sensible enough to occur.
RP injuries to my players: Yes, limited in severity, not enough to put them off the tournament, unless you get my permission.
Godmod injuries to my players: I will see, talk to me first.
Hand out yellow cards to my players: Yes
Hand out red cards to my players: Yes, Once per round and not onto the star player (unless you get my permission via TG)
Godmod other events: TG me, I’ll see.

a very low-quality world cup 102 roster:

69 - noobus: back again

21 – RandomNoob: bad at most things yet rather optimistic

23 - JustBry4:) : found being team captain boring

4 - NotJustBry4: the new team captain

91 – AVeryMadGuy : the doppelganger of NotJustBry4

24 - MadNoob: like his "random" counterpart by much angrier

51 – TheAngryBacon: has severe crashouts after any loss

420 – Anonymous1147: ... you expected me to put something here?

404 - hackerman: strategist by day, borderline cyberterrorist by night

73 - WhoTookMySoul: didn't sell his soul to the devil, they just got rid of it

64 – MrBighead: gets more concussions than they care to mention; how he survives all those concussions is impossible to know

Calgasia Football Team
Official roster for the 102nd World Cup
Image

General Information

Nation: Calgasia
Trigram: CGS
Nicknames: Der Adler (The eagles), Unsere Mädchen und Jungen(Our Boys and Girls), the Black Eagles
Motto: Vorwärts! (Forward!)
Association: Calgasische Fussball-Bund - CFB
Head Coach: Ferenc Csáky
Captain: Jan Novák, Gloria Renner
Most caps: Various (53)
Top scorer: Jan Novák (34)
Record (W/D/L): 34-16-23

"Enough with this nonsense", were the words used by the new president of the Calgasische Fussball-Bund, Walther Bauer-Leitz. The controversial St. Agatha-born lawyer and sports administrator won the support of some of the teams and most of the members of the CFB board, promising results. "The Gegenpress and total football might work in our Bundesliga, but it is clear that it is not enough in international football", he addressed to CRF Sport.

The truth is that the Black Eagles have been knocking at the door of the top teams in the last seasons, but it still hasn't made it to the World Cup, nor has it done deep runs in the IAC yet. And Bauer-Leitz thinks that the blame is on the defensive part of the team. "We concede too many goals" was his thorough analysis. And thus, he fired the Prophet, Karel Polásek, and hired probably the most infamous coach in the entire country: Ferenc Csáky, whose ultradefensive tactics earned him the nickname of "The Sheikh" during his days at Club Hungária, and especially Welser AC, the Enfants Terribles of the national football.

Thus, contrary to its football tradition, based on an attack-oriented style, Calgasia is now waging a full-scale jihad against good football.

Roster

Legend:
Number -- Name -- Age -- Position -- Club
Starters in bold

Goalkeepers
1. Jiri Srubek -- 26 -- GK -- Fussball-Club Bohunice
13. Max Haller -- 27 -- GK -- Welser AC
26. Paul Wieser -- 18 -- GK -- Club Hungária

Jiri Srubek, after three titles in five years with FC Bohunice, is clearly the best keeper in the country. A more flamboyant style compared to the serious, academic Kaltenbrunner, now retired from the Black Eagles, Srubek is still young but has improved his level, forgetting the sudden mistakes and errors that plagued his game at the start of his career.
Haller moved from Welser AC to Dantopia, and given his performance he got a well deserved call to the national team but seems that's always a bit away from being in the starting eleven, along with his substitute in Welser AC and one of the main surprises of the season, Paul Wieser.

Defenders
2. Antonin Hojer -- 29 -- RB -- Melperk Sport Verein
3. Jan Schlossinger -- 21 -- CB -- Welser AC
4. Martin Kargel -- 29 -- CB -- Phönix Sport Verein
14. Károly Hájos -- 26 -- LB -- Club Hungária
15. Matej Blecha -- 30 -- CB -- Fussball-Club Bohunice
19. Jakob Schulz -- 25 -- CB -- Melperk Sport Verein
20. Nico Dorn -- 29 -- RB -- Fussball-Club Bohunice
23. Stefan Hofer -- 19 -- RB -- Welser AC
24. Mía Wallner -- 28 -- CB -- Club Hungária
25. Jan Tesař -- 20 -- CB -- FC Lílov

Traditionally the weakest line in the team, they are now the core of the bus that Calgasia will park every matchday, much to the dismay of rivals (and their own fans). The defence is dominated by the young pair Schulz and Schlossinger, with 25 and 21 years respectively, with Matej Blecha, who brings centimetres and power to the line, as the first replacement. The young centrebacks have an excellent ball control and passing, and their height makes them to be very safe in crosses and set pieces. The left flank in the formation is for Károly Hajós. The 26 y/o Hungária player is one of the fastest players in the tournament, able to dash through lines and with a very effective left foot for crosses or set pieces, now more mature and less prone to concentration errors.

Antonin Hojer is a reliable player, being more defence oriented and able to play in both flanks, and will start on the right side. His tactical sense will be crucial in a team that needs more experience in the multiverse stage. Centrebacks Nágy and Tesar will bring intimidation, strenght and centimetres to the defence, while Mía Wallner will be a jack-of-all-trades, being able to play in several positions.

Midfielders
5. Béla Szecsi -- 23 -- CM -- Club Hungária
6. Max Bohren -- 29 -- CM -- Phönix Sport Verein
8. György Biró -- 28 -- CAM -- Club Hungária
11. Brigita Horáčková -- 23 -- RW, CAM -- Fussball-Club Bohunice
12. Emil Sedlácek -- 25 -- CAM, W -- Melperk Sport Verein
16. Pavlina Kostková -- 26 -- CM -- Fussball-Club Bohunice
17. Christine Cieszyn -- 30 -- CM -- Melperk Sport Verein
18.Gisela Spitz -- 27 -- RW, RB -- Ausnes FC

The Adlers midfield will be dominated in the centre by Szecsi, Bohren and Sedlácek. The three players will control the flow of the game while maintaining a great workrate both in defence and offence phases. Do not miss the chance to see Sedlacek; the CAM of Bohemian origin has confirmed he is one of the best creative midfielders in the Multiverse, but there is some scepticism about how will he fit in the new ultradefensive tactics. Szecsi, the young central midfielder from Club Hungária, already established as the best national midfielder, will be the centre of the team, a box-to-box with great technique that will surely attract interest.

Spitz brings vision and speed from the flanks, with a decent shot from the right flank, with legend Webern now gone. Spitz and Schöngau will start at the wings, ready to dribble past defenders and especially punish them in fast counterattacks.
In the bench, the coach will find plenty of options to choose. From the defensive-minded CDMs Kostková and Cieszyn, to the more creative and explosive Horáčková and Biró.

Forwards
9. Jan Novák -- 27 -- ST -- Melperk Sport Verein
10. Gloria Renner -- 31 -- ST -- Bohunice Fussball-Club
22. Zoey Moser -- 31 -- ST -- Melperk Sport Verein
7. Phillip Bock -- 18 -- ST -- Goldstadt Sport-Kreis
21. Hedwig Schöngau -- 21 -- ST -- Phönix Sport Verein

Calgasia's chances lies in the shoulders of one player, Jan Novák. The best striker in the country, combining a fast and strong 1,85cm body with a great sense of the game, being able to combine with teammates and finding open spaces. Gloria Renner, the captain for the last seasons, will start from the bench this time, given her minute limitation as she couldn't finish the last trainings due to some pain, and will wait for the second half to enter and disrupt the tired defenders. In the bench Zoey Moser will await an opportunity, after being two of the best players during the season. Hedwig Schöngau, considered one of the best young players in the country, earns her first call, her speed and dribble key for the counter-attacks and will start, and in the bench another wonderkid, striker Phillip Bock, earns his first cap after a season that has confirmed him as one of the brightest prospects in national football.

Tactics

Traditionally playing with an attack-oriented style, Calgasia now proposes a version of haramball. The formation will be a 4-2-3-1, or 4-4-2 the coach has decided to switch to this formation, to have two compact lines instead of three defenders, and fill the midfield, while in attack they move quickly to the flanks to have counter-attacks, especially after stealing the ball. Key points:
-"Ana Maradun": We don’t know how long this phase will last, but for now, haramball will be the dominant religion within the national team. Do not expect any joy or amusement. Only pain and suffering.
-Wing play and counter-attack: true to national tradition, the Adlers will carry much of the attacking play down the flanks, looking to generate superiority or for the full-back to double the winger to generate space.
-Great physicality: another typical aspect of Calgasia is the prevalence of physical play over individual technique. Expect strong, fast players, able to launch quick counterattacks, and deadly for rivals if given enough space
-Nastier: Calgasians usually are good, quiet people. But not during the 90 minutes a game is on. Expect mean defences, sacrifice, flying elbows, a hard tackle or two and in general a tough style of play and bookings. Here, have a tissue to dry your tears.
-Dangerous set plays: Calgasian football puts a strong emphasis on tactics and strategy. Expect tactical corner kicks where the tall Calgasian players can gain an advantage over rivals.

Set Plays

Penalty takers: Jan Novák, Emil Sedlácek, Hedwig Schöngau
Right Corner Kick: György Biró, Emil Sedlácek
Left Corner Kick: Emil Sedlácek, György Biró,
Free Kick takers: Emil Sedlácek, Béla Szecsi, Gloria Renner

The Kadongo Kamu have played in exactly 945 games, as of the start of World Cup 102 Qualifying. It is the 28th all-time World Cup cycle for Banija. We have entered in Qualifying for 25 separate campaigns (WCQ73-77, WCQ79-80, WCQ82, WCQ84-98, and WCQ100-WCQ101), and hosted three other World Cups (81, 83, and 99). We have also participated in Baptism of Fire 60 and been a participant in four different Cup of Harmonies(CoH 66, CoH 67, CoH 71, and CoH 81).

After not competing at all during the World Cup 78 Cycle due to the RBSA's bankruptcy, they re-entered the world of international football in World Cup 79 cycle. A shocking World Cup 79 Qualification campaign saw them on the brink of qualifying, but the team simply ran out of gas and lost 4 of their final 5 matches to not make it to Ceni/Drawkland. Since then, the U21 team got 3rd place at the 42nd Di Bradini Cup, and the national team advanced to the quarterfinals of AOCAF LV, AOCAF LVI, and AOCAF LVII, establishing themselves as a strong regional side, falling to the eventual champs in the latter two tournaments. They stunningly qualified for World Cup 80, after starting poorly by losing 5 of their first 9, to going unbeaten in the second half of qualifying, where they won 7 of those games. In the World Cup 80 Qualification playoffs, a 3-0 first leg victory in Montreal, Royal Kingdom of Quebec, powered the team through to their first ever appearance in the World Cup Finals, advancing to sport's pre-eminent competition 5-3 on aggregate over Mercedini. While a pair of one goal losses saw them eliminated after two games, they earned their first ever victory at the World Cup Finals in a 2-0 win over New Gazi in their final group stage game. As they hosted World Cup 81, they went directly to the tournament, and went to their first ever knockout stages, winning Group A before falling, 1-1(2-1 AET) to Turori in the Round of 16. They cruised to qualification in World Cup 82, maintaining a top two spot in their World Cup Qualification group behind Brenecia for the entirety of the World Cup 82 Qualification campaign, getting to the tournament with relative ease before bowing out in the group stages.

The World Cup 83 cycle was their strongest yet. Starting with AOCAF LVIII on home soil, co-hosted with the Commonwealth of Baker Park, the Kadongo Kamu won 6 consecutive matches to open the tournament, taking their winning streak all the way to the final. Unfortunately, they were felled, 4-2, at home to their archrivals, the Equestrian States. Co-hosting World Cup 83 as well, the Banijans made a miraclous run at the World Cup, upending 5th ranked South Covelllo on penalties, and defeating the then two-time defending world champions Vilita in the quarterfinals, before falling, 3-2, at the national stadium to Starblaydia. They added to the trophy case, however, earning a bronze medal after defeating Cassadaigua in the 3rd place playoff game.

The World Cup 84 cycle, the first with real title expectations for the Banijans, was a disappointment in the regionals, as we fell 1-0 to Ko-oren in the AOCAF Round of 16, although we advanced to the quarterfinals of World Cup 84 before dropping to Eura in extra time. The World Cup 85 cycle seems to be a promise of hope for the Banijans. Although AOCAF LX was a rough tournament for the Banijans, it was surrounded by two excellent tournament performances for the Banijans. We won the U21 World Cup(DBC 47), and are just coming off earning our first ever senior-level trophy, by winning the 8th Eagle's Cup to be admitted as a full, permanent member of the Eagle's Club right before the beginning of World Cup Qualifying. Following that, the Banijans dominated World Cup 85 Qualifying, going wire-to-wire as the first place team in their World Cup Qualifying group, as well as earning more points in World Cup Qualifying(67) than any other team did throughout the entire campaign. Those strong performances both in the Eagle's Cup and World Cup Qualifying have caused fans to put an up and down AOCAF behind them, and heighten the standard for World Cup 85. While they escaped the group stages with four points, strong wins over Vilita and Zwangzug in the knockouts put them on course for a medal, as they eventually beat allies Baker Park in the bronze medal match, after falling 3-2 to the eventual champions Free Republics in the semifinal.

After a return to the AOCAF LXI Quarterfinals, their first quarterfinal appearance in the last 3 editions of the regional championships, they fell to Chromatika on penalties. The World Cup 86 Qualification campaign went rather swimmingly- the national team went a perfect 18-0-0 in World Cup Qualifying, the first time that had happened in well over 10 cycles. The multiverse's #1 ranked squad was brimming with confidence, the two-time bronze medalists entering World Cup 86 trying to win the biggest trophy in all of sports for the first time.

Marcus Waters has always preached the following- "you've got to win at home before you can win the World Cup." It's always meant you've got to win in Atlantian Oceania before you can expect to win the World Cup. And while we've never won the AOCAFs, our group was all Atlantian Oceania sides- Ko-oren, Chromatika, and Mriin. We finished in first place with a 1-0 win over Ko-oren, a 2-2 draw against Chromatika, and a 0-0 draw against Mriin being enough to earn 5 points. Then, we faced a gauntlet of former World champions. A 1-0 win over them put us in our fourth consecutive World Cup Quarterfinal, against 5 time World champions Valanora. A thrilling 4-3 win put us in the semifinal, again facing a GSW rival- World Cup 84 winners Farfadillis. In one of the wildest World Cup semifinals ever played, Banija came out on top 7-6, with a stoppage time winner to put them in the Final against the World Cup 85 winners Nephara. It was a true game of the century- neither team had lost a competitive match since the start of World Cup Qualifying, neither losing during Qualifying or the Finals. And in that thriller, it would be the Banijans who would win, taking a lead and holding onto it, winning by 3 goals to 2 against Nephara to lift the trophy and declare themselves World Cup Champions.

The ensuing AOCAF was strong, but not as strong as they wanted it to be. After starting slowly and losing their opening two games, they finished well done the stretch of group play, and even won a pair of knockout stage games before eventually falling to the champions, Baker Park, in the Semifinals. The Banijans redeemed themselves by earning a bronze medal against Sarzonia. The team took a B squad to Eagle's Cup IX, but a strong performance there landed them a silver medal, losing in the final to Valanora. World Cup 87 did not go the way they expected, getting eliminated in the group stages for the first time since World Cup 82. But we recovered in the World Cup 88 cycle. While a quarterfinal elimination at both Eagle's Cup X and AOCAF LXIII were not great, we were unbeaten in World Cup 88 Qualifying, and reached the World Cup 88 Semifinals, eliminating the defending champions Nephara and falling to the eventual champions Turori along the way. We used that momentum of the semfiinal run to finally earn a regional title, as on our 10th try, we finally won the AOCAFs, defeating Hapilopper in the semifinals and Valanora in the Final, winning both matches via penalty kick shootouts.

That regional title meant little in World Cup Qualifying, however, as Pemecutan and Zwangzug both pipped past Banija to automatically qualify for the World Cup, and left Banija in the dust, gasping for air. That called for a reset from the RSBA, which led to Marcus Waters resigning and Pam Scott be hired. While neither the Cup of Harmony nor the AOCAFs went particularly well, Pam Scott's laser focus on qualifying for the World Cup was a success, as the team not only went to World Cup 90, but showed up in style, winning a pair of penalty shootouts, before falling to the eventual winners, The Holy Empire, on PKs, in the semifinals. They still beat Valanora in the third place match, 2-1, to earn their third overall bronze medal. To reset things for World Cup 91, Banija easily won our qualification group, but flopped on our face in the Finals- losing our last two group stage matches after opening the tournament with 3 points, and promptly falling out at the group stages.

Pam Scott changed the mood entirely following, however, as the Banijans surprised many by winning AOCAF 67, including eliminating tournament favorites, Valanora, on home soil. The team built on that, in what was one of their best cycles ever- after going unbeaten in Qualifying (17 wins and 3 draws, with no losses), they went to the World Cup with confidence. After winning their group with ease, 7 points, they made it all the way to their Second ever World Cup Final, at World Cup 92. Wins over Squidroidia and world number ones Turori followed in the knockout stages, followed by a PK shootout victory over Valanora. But in the World Cup 92 Final, they fell at the final hurdle, as Zwangzug lifted the sport's ultimate trophy. While they could not retain their regional title, losing to the host nations, Valanora, in the AOCAF 68 Final, the lessons learned were paramount. They reached the World Cup and turned on another gear, earning their second ever World Cup title after defeating Chromatika, 4-3, in the World Cup 93 Final.

After they fell in the semifinals of AOCAF 69, the question was- could Banija repeat on the world stage? And the answer, undoubtedly, was yes. In sensational fasion, the Banijans earned their third ever World Cup title in a title defense- going a combined 25-0-2(W-L-D) across Qualifying and the World Cup Finals combined to earn a championship at World Cup 94. And they maintained the form at the AOCAFs- turning down worthy challenger after worthy challenger to do something they have never done before- be regional and world champions at the same time.

Unfortunately, the chase for the threepeat died miserably- World Cup 95 was a nightmarish campaign. The Qualifying campaign barely got off the ground, and it never really went anywhere- although we qualified, it was only via a last minute decider via a playoff- not what a team looking to win a World Cup title is looking to do. And the poor form carried over when it counted most, as it resulted in a group stage knockout for Banija. But that was not a one-off- it started a downturn for the Banijans. A disappointing result at the inauguaral ARC, followed by failing to qualify for World Cup 96, has put a lot of pressure on this team for the last ARCs. The old guard had their last chance and disapppointed- and ergo, there was a top to bottom cleaning of the house. 12 players from the last roster retired, as well as the manager- and so, with George Wangolo taking the reigns as NT manager, it is a new era for the Kadongo Kamu.

The first Banijan manager in 24 cycles to get the full-time job, he had a successful first cycle. There were plenty of questions, as he turned over half the roster and Banija barely whimpered in World Cup 96. But while starting a little rocky, Banija were firing on all cylinders by around the halfway mark- qualifying directly for the World Cup, and ensuring an emphatic win over the Pot 1 side as well. The actual Finals were a stunning success- Banija not only winning their group with 7 points, but advancing past both the Round of 32 and Round of 16, before falling eventually in the Quarterfinals to Tumbra. The run was life-giving, as there is hope that, in the near-term future, this is a squad that can compete for the biggest trophies.

Unfortunately, Wangolo did not built upon this, getting smoked out of the regional tournament, ARC 3- Banija's first ever elimination in the group stages from a regional tournament. Stunning- they had advanced to the KO stages of the regional tournament 19 straight times(United Valhaven once, AOCAFs 16 times out 16, and ARC 1 and 2). A real shocker- they won their first game 4-1, and then lost three in succession to be dumped out of the tournament in the Squornshelan Confederacy. A real shock- what should have been a feel good moment has quickly turned the mood around the NT sour. The RBSA expressed their confidence in Wangolo, but it went from bad to worse- despite a dominating Qualifying campaign, going 12-1-1, the team had their worst ever World Cup Finals performance, earning just 1 point across three games, despite being in Pot 1 and being ranked 8th in the world.

What did that mean? Wangolo was fired, and now, there's a new man in charge. He had a solid regional tournament, taking Banija to third place at the ARC in Siovanija & Teusland. He could not build on it, as the team backed into the KO stages of a home World Cup, scoring just 1 goal in three group games, before being outclassed by Tikariot in the Ro32. While many thought he wouldn't survive that, he did by the skin of his own teeth- aka, all of the people with the authority to fire him resigned. But he wasn't a lame duck at ARC V- resurrecting himself as he led the Banijans to a strong performance at the regionals, winning all four group games, and going all the way to the Final- before losing, brutally, to Farfadillis, their rivals. But things on the rise, consistently, since then. Riding an unbeaten Qualifying campaign, he took Banija easily to World Cup 100, and they got one round further than the cycle before- winning their group, and winning a KO game on penalties, before losing, in the Round of 16, to Aphrilia.

Last cycle got off to a fantastic start- winning the whole damn tournament at ARC 6, in Valanora. They were successful against the tournament's big boys, as well- defeating host nation Valanora, in the semifinals, on penalties, before dispatching the reigning World Cup champions, Squornshelous, by a score of 6-2 in the Final. They carried that momentum forward into World Cup 101, and it started out fairly well for them. The Kadongo Kamu mostly coasted through World Cup 101 Qualifying, losing just once across 18 qualifiers, and winning their group 11 points clear of a second place Zenic. This put them into a strong position to fly through the World Cup Finals, and the group stages in Farfadillis went well- three wins from three played in the group stages. Considering the run of form all the way from ARC 6, and the pedigree of this NT, many were saying that this team was legitimate contenders to make a deep run at the World Cup- to the quarterfinals, or even beyond.

However, that was not the plan- as an upstart Snestar got the better of the Kadongo Kamu in the Round of 32, and our tournament ended right then and there- at the first KO stage hurdle. For a team with such high hopes, they were on the wrong side of a huge upset, and it was a brutal way to go out. But they recovered at ARC 7- winning all 6 games, the first 5 on home soil, en route to a second straight regional title, once again in dominating fashion, with a 4-1 win in the ARC Final. But even equally as salient, was the Busoga Islands' surprise success. Their shocking run to the World Cup 101 Final has stunned Banija, as most in the country think they have a god-given right to be better at every sport than Busoga- especially this one. For that reason, expect Banijan media to closely compare Busogan and Banijan results during Qualifying for the entirety of the campaign.

List of National Team managers
1. Kizza Kabila(Banija). Manager for Baptism of Fire 60 and the World Cup 73 Qualification Campaign. Overall record of 0-14-1(W-L-D).

Kizza Kabila is the only Banijan to have ever managed the national team. Hired for Banija's first foray onto the international scene in this sport, his reign was universally derided as a disaster. Managing 15 games, he drew his first game in the Baptism of Fire, and not only lost the next two, he then lost ever single match in the 12 game World Cup Qualification campaign for World Cup 73, with the side only scoring 5 goals across the entire campaign. Unceremoniously fired after becoming one of few managers to go through an entire World Cup Qualification campaign without earning a single point, he, alongside the entire board of the RBSA, resigned after the last game. He was disgraced in the sport after the campaign, and, to this point, has never returned to top-level soccer.

2.Jan Cassallerus(San Llera): Hired before the start of the World Cup 74 Qualification Campaign, managed through the World Cup 77 Qualification Campaign. Overall Record of 27-32-16(W-L-D).

Banija put its eyes abroad, searching for a foreign manager before the World Cup 74 Qualification campaign, and found Jan Cassallerus. He is Banija's longest ever serving manager, being at the helm for four entire World Cup cycles, and being at the helm for 75 total games, a kind of longevity unheard of in the modern game, especially managing the national team. He started winning a game at the Coupe D'Esquarium, in what was known as the group of death. He was largely celebrated for bringing the team into relevancy. The expectations were through the floor, following Kizza Kabila, but he brought the team to Cup of Harmony 66 and Cup of Harmony 67, as well as advancing in Olympic Qualifying and getting third place at the United Valhaven Regional Football Championships. He was forced into retirement after the World Cup 77 Qualification campaign, when the RBSA declared bankruptcy, and could not participate in the World Cup 78 Qualification Campaign due to their inability to compensate players and staff.

3. Randolf Cherry(Drawkland): Hired before the start of the World Cup 79 Qualification Campaign. Overall Record of 20-24-2(W-L-D)

Randolf Cherry, after the RBSA got its act together, was hired- controversially- as the manager of the national team. Not that his own hire was controversial, it was applauded across the sports spectrum here at home. He was given a 3 cycle contract, and everyone knew what the goal was- to make the World Cup Finals at least once over the course of the contract. They understood that it would take time to climb the rankings, and they were willing to give him the leash. However, he came in a very awkward situation. Adama Sowe, the Chairman of the RBSA, allegedly first offered the job to Sarah Owens, out of the Equestrian States. Of course, it is illegal in Banija for women to coach men's professional teams, and that caused controversy. And yet, here he was- the manager of the national team.

His own home country of Drawkland is, of course, very progressive in that area, where the sport is dominated by the ladies. Regardless, he had an excellent start to his reign as a manger, and was initially extremely popular. He won his first game, in a special Eagles Club match, against Aggrey-Fynn Land. He lost his first few qualifiers, but he went on a dear through the middle of qualifying, which included a 7 game winning streak on home soil. Big wins against then 4th ranked Chromatika at home and then 32nd ranked Eshan, put them in the conversation of World Cup Qualification, though they were simply not strong enough.

The Cup of Harmony was considered a disaster, finishing in dead last in their group. The competition maybe simply isn't for the Banijans, eh? But they were strong throughout the offseason, making a surprising quarterfinal run in AOCAF LV and bringing high hopes to the squad going into World Cup 80 Qualification. Hopes were through the roof for the national team, maybe even bordering unrealistic. They struggled, and the campaign got worse as the pressure built, as the squad lost their final four qualifiers of the first half of qualifying. With the campaign seemingly in free-fall, he was fired, as the RBSA said they wanted time to conduct "an open, thorough, search."

4. Marcus Waters(Equestrian States): Hired after the 1st half of World Cup 80 Qualifying, fired at the end of World Cup 89 Qualifying. Overall record of 257-81-50(W-L-D). All-time winning percentage of 66.24%. All-time points percentage of 70.53%.

Marcus Waters was the national team's assistant manager with Randolf Cherry above him, and the manager of the youth national teams. He first gained notoriety in Banija after successfully leading the U21 team to a 3rd place finish at the 42nd Di Bradini Cup. With his abilities clear, it made sense to move onto him as the interim manager as they searched for a permanent manager ahead of the second half of World Cup Qualifying. However, he was able to complete a stunning turnaround of this team. His first game in charge, he changed nearly the entire backline, and had a massive upset, away to Qasden, by a score of 3-2. A 3-0 victory over Razenthuria in the other mid-qualifying friendly got high hopes for him.

Marcus Waters went out with an intent to keep his team focused, despite everything going on at home. He has proven adept at navigating the political minefield that is this job, especially with his own country of origin essentially at war with Banija. He didn't lose a single game in the second half of qualifying, winning 7 games to get to the playoffs, including when the team was forced to play home games in Montreal due to ongoing violence within Banija. He was widely applauded for getting the team ready to play in Montreal, and winning 1-0 against Turori, the group's top seeded squad, and a 3-0 win in Montreal in the Qualification playoffs. While the RBSA interviewed four other candidates, his successful push through the World Cup Qualification playoffs and into Banija's first-ever World Cup Finals essentially clinched the job for him, as he put pen to paper to take the interim tag off of his title ahead of the 80th World Cup Finals.

Since then, of course, he has done a lot to garner the confidence of the higher-ups, and of the fans. Falling to the eventual champions in the quarterfinals of both AOCAF LVI and AOCAF LVII was widely seen as a positive. As well as, of course, a surprising Fourth Place finish in the Cup of Champions Six, highlighted by a surprising point earned in their matchup against Nephara, while also pushing through to the Round of 16 of World Cup 81, pleasing the home fans. A different sort of pressure faces him this campaign, however.

For the first time in his reign, you could say that Banija had a disappointing tournament, failing to advance in World Cup 82 beyond the group stages. It might be harsh to say that- on paper, advancing from a group with both Pasarga and Farfadillis is a tall order if your team is not Pasarga or Farfadillis. They responded well, however, winning six consecutive games at AOCAF LVIII, and knocking off major nations including Cosumar and Mriin at the tournament, before being felled in the final, in their own capitol of Busukuma, to Equestria. Following up with a World Cup on home soil, they continued that momentum forward from AOCAF LVIII, as the Banijans took on the role of giantslayers on home soil. They beat the 5th ranked South Covello side, and the then two-time defending world champions Vilita, before eventually falling to Starblaydia in the semifinals, though they still earned a bronze medal. Although momentum was blunted after a tough 1-0 defeat to Ko-oren that secured an early exit from AOCAF LIX, they followed that up with their second straight appearance in the World Cup Quarterfinals, where they fell to Eura in extra time.

The last two cycles he really got the team to rise above themselves. The last two World Cup Qualification cycles, Banija has finished as the best team in World Cup Qualifying by points earned. And he has the silverware to match- a bronze medal earned in World Cup 85, followed by a gold medal in World Cup 86. Having risen from basically nowhere in Equestria to household name status in Banija, he has truly made a name for himself as one of the world's premier international managers. While World Cup 87 was disappointing, he quickly ensured that was a one-off, rather than a sign of things to come. He brought Banija to their fourth World Cup semifinal in their past six tournaments at World Cup 88, and followed that up with winning the country's first ever regional title.

But he is now a victim of his own success. An Eagle's Cup champion, the AO champion, and a World Cup champion, he drastically raised the bar for the Kadongo Kamu. But Banija winning 9 of their last 10 Qualifiers could not overcome their disastrous, and therefore, we did not qualify for the World Cup Finals. The RBSA had no other choice but to let the legend and Hall of Famer walk, as the time has come around for the national team to change their head man for the first time since World Cup 80.

5. Pamela Scott(Commonwealth of Baker Park): Hired after World Cup 89 Qualifying, right before Cup of Harmony 81. Retired after ARC 2, following World Cup 96. Overall Record of 174-46-58(W-L-D). Winning percentage: 62.59%. Points percentage: 69.54%

Scott is widely regarded as one of the brightest tactical minds in the sport, and her record speaks for itself. Replaced Trevor Richmond as BP National Team Manager after the side qualified for the WC in their first three attemps, then followed Ichi Tuzzio as boss of the WC 85 Champions, overhauling the roster and bringing a bit of defensive awareness to the legendary Farf attacking style. Has an eye for young talent and not afraid to give them a chance. The above is why she was hired- leverage her experience to bring stabilization to a national team that is currently reeling.

While the Cup of Harmony and the AOCAFs both resulted in disappointing exits at the Round of 16, and the Eagle's Cup went disastrously(not scoring for 5 consecutive matches), Pam Scott is still upbeat about the direction of the national team. "With this cycle, everything is about World Cup Qualification." She told reporters. "Those tournaments, while they did not go well, were about finding the right squad, building to this moment. Banija wants to compete on all fronts, of course- but we cannot do that if we are not qualifying for the World Cup. These tournaments, while not great on the field, have allowed me to experiment all sorts of lineups, and expose different players to elite competition at the international stage. How they deal with things like pressure. You're going to see much different results when the team takes the field for World Cup 90 Qualifying."

But her first World Cup in charge was an unmitigated success. Beating both Audioslavia and Eura was a stunner, as Banija won the group of death with a game to go. Not resting on their laurels, they downed two AO rivals, SRS and Baker Park, in back-to-back games in route to the semifinals, and eventually, a bronze medal. With that success, Pam Scott declared that the national team is "back to competing on all fronts". While the last World Cup's group stage embarassment was a disappointment, she more than made up for it by bringing home her first major international trophy- the AOCAFs.

Last cycle, after reaching the AOCAF Final and falling to Valanora, she was able to take the lessons learned from that and bring Banija to our second ever World Cup title- and her first. She's now, after a long journey from Baker Park, to Farfadillis, and now Banija, has reached the sports pinnacle. But what's more impressive than getting to the top, is staying at the top. She led Banija to an unbeaten Qualifying campaign(dropping just 2 points from 20 Qualifiers), and followed that up with a second World Cup win- this time, in emphatic fashion, with a bunch of high-drama, one goal wins throughout World Cup 94 leading up to a convincing 4-1 victory over Valanora in the World Cup 94 Final. With what may be the final AOCAF trophy in hand, Her reputation in Banija is firmly established with all sorts of silverware- certainly the greatest Banijan manager ever.

Ultimately, like most NT managers, she could not succeed forever. There was a firm downturn after the success of WC92-94 cycles, as a group stage elimination in WC95 was a sign of dark things to come- a pair of first KO round eliminations at the ARC, sandwiching a failed qualification campaign for WC96, led to her downfall. While it was rough at the end, she has surely firmly established herself as the greatest ever in this country.

6. George Wangolo. Hired after ARC 2, fired after World Cup 98. Overall Record of 27-12-6(W-L-D). Winning percentage: 60.00%. Points percentage: 64.44%

The 6th all-time manager of the NT, and only the second Banijan. Ironically, the first Banijan to actually win a game while managing the senior NT. While bringing Banija's first ever Galactico long-lister, as a player, into the fold as a manager seemed like a pretty good and obvious idea, especially after the disaster of ARC 2- his heights were reached very early in their tenure. World Cup 97 Qualifying went well, as the team sailed through qualification after missing World Cup 96, and then rolled to the Quarterfinals of World Cup 97- the first 48 team World Cup. High levels of confidence were built in the national team.

However, from there- the tenure was a disaster. At the regional tournament, ARC 3, Banija got grouped for the first time ever at a regional tourney- between the AOCAFs and the ARC, first time in 20 attempts. All the goodwill he had earned had nearly evaporated- and it was a miracle that Wangolo wasn't fired. However, while the Banijans cruised through Qualifying, he again led the NT to fall flat on their faces at another major tournament, this time getting dead last in their group at World Cup 98. Two straight failures in a row, even as a guy from Banija, the RBSA could not chase him out of there quickly enough. His tenure is largely seen as an extreme failure.

7. Mikhail Trischuk(South Newlandia). Hired ahead of ARC 4. Overall Record of 66-19-12(W-L-D). Winning percentage: 68.04%. Points percentage: 72.16%

Where do the Banijans turn at this point? A pivotal ARC coming, especially after getting grouped at the last one- and then, a home World Cup on the horizon. The search was in-depth- and while they didn't go with a household name, it was Mikhail Trischuk, out of South Newlandia, who got the job. The former South Newlandian goalkeeper had coached in a number of leagues, and was seen as a guy who could bring not only stability, but success- especially with a crucially important cycle at home coming up, the first World Cup on home soil since World Cup 83.

The regional tournament was a success- getting third place at ARC 4. Their loss in the semifinal, was to the inarguable best team in the multiverse, Squornshelous. That gave the team confidence- and while they struggled throughout their friendly tour of Banija ahead of World Cup 99, the hopes were high for a deep run on home soil. But unfortunately for the Kadongo Kamu, that was not in the cards- while they got results, it was a tough group stage to watch. Just one goal scored across three group stage games, although the goal powered a 1-0 win for the Banijans, and they earned 4 points, more than enough to reach the knockout stages. They got KO'd immediately, in the Round of 32, but to an elite Tikariot squad. Certainly not a thrilling success, but a sobering moment for the Banijans- that the path back to World Cup title contention would be long and arduous.

They stuck behind their manager, and the long climb back to the top has been looking good since then. ARC 5 went better than the previous regional tournament, where they went all the way to the Final of ARC 5. While we lost to our major rivals, Farfadillis, in the ARC 5 Final, it was a great run- a good warmup ahead of World Cup 100. And World Cup 100 Qualifying, at least, was fantastic. The Banijans went unbeaten in the largest ever Qualifying cycle, going 15-0-1(W-L-D) across 16 matches, to easily qualify for the World Cup- including an emphatic 5-1 win to punctuate things in the final Qualifier. The World Cup Finals, meanwhile, were certainly a success- 2 wins in the group stage saw them finish top of their group, and a penalty shootout win in the Round of 32, over Kelssek, saw them advance to the Round of 16 for the first time since World Cup 97, where they fell to Aphrilia, 2-0.

In his 3rd full cycle in charge, the team is made completely in his image. ARC 6 was a thrilling ride- the Banijans flew out, scoring 33 goals across seven matches (22 in 4 KO matches!), as a dizzying and prolific attack led the Banijans to their first ever championship at the ARC. Against a parade of tough opponents, as well- defeating Siovanija & Teusland in the quarterfinals, then the host nation, Valanora, on penalties in the semifinals, and lastly, the reigning world champions, Squornshelous, by a stunning margin of 6 goals to 2 in the ARC 6 Final. A near impossible scoreline.

In his fourth cycle, he's very much settled into the job- despite the early elimination from World Cup 102, he's got the Banijans playing at the very top of their game. Since the end of World Cup 100, in competitive matches- World Cup 101 Qualifying, World Cup 101, ARC 6, and ARC 7- he's led the national team to 31 victories in 35 competitive matches since the end of World Cup 100. He's brought the NT down from the lower 20s in the ranks, and back into the top 10. A critical place to be, of course, because that means we are right on the borderline for a significant milestone- aka, being Pot 1 at the World Cup Finals. A huge advantage for teams who have dreams of World Cup glory dancing in their eyes, like this team does. Just 2 losses in that time period- one qualifier, and that Round of 32 loss to Snestar. That leaves a lot of excitement for Banijan fans, when it comes to handicapping their chances of success at World Cup 102.

1. The Equestrian States. All time Banijan record against opponent- 3-7-2(W-L-T). (Record not up to date)

The Equestrian States are easily Banija's biggest rival, and by a country mile. It has all the makings of a good international sporting rivalry- plenty of matches played, history of competitive matches, geopolitical rivalry, player familiarity, and, of course, geographical proximity- all those boxes are checked. They've played each other 5 times, and Banija has come out on the losing end each and every time, most recently a 4-0 clobbering at the hands of the Equestrian States during Banija's final friendly before this qualification tournament began.

Three times have they played in competitive competition, and three times Banija has fallen. The Equestrian States eliminated Banija from Cup of Harmony 71 in group play, while also defeating the Banijans in both the opening match of World Cup 80, and the final group stage match of AOCAF LVI, though the Banijans still advanced to the quarterfinals of that tournament. The familiarity of players between each other is strong. Banija's present and most successfull all-time manager, Marcus Waters, is Equestrian. A number of players in each country play in leagues in the other. Famous Equestrian NT players like Aaron Aiza, Rosie Tyler, and Josef Lawrenz, ply their trade in the Banijan Soccer League, with Aiza particularly growing to superstar status while winning league titles at Herzegovina City FC.

Banija's first ever major final in this sport, at the senior level, was against none other than Equestria at the national stadium, with the winner to be crowned champions of AOCAF LVIII Final. In front of a decidedly pro-Banijan crowd, it was the Equestrians who dashed Banijan dreams of glory on their home turf as they picked up their first ever major international silverware, with a 4-2 victory. That victory has made the Banijans just that much hungrier to defeat their bitter rivals, and though the history is lopsided in favor of Equestria, that has just fueled the fire on this side of the matchup. The two sides co-hosted World Cup 83 together, and almost had a rematch of their AOCAF LVIII Final in the World Cup Final, though Banija could not fulfill its end of the bargain as they fell to a stronger Starblaydia side in the semifinals. Equestria, of course went on to win the World Cup, and the next AOCAF to boot, establish a fully fledged dynasty. The Banijans, in pre WOrld Cup 84 Qualification friendlies, got their first ever result against the Equestrians, a 0-0 draw in Everfree.

Equestria and Banija were in the same group at AOCAF LXII, with the opening match of the tournament being a repeat of the AOCAF LVIII Final. Banija, we thought, rising high and champions. But Equestria came to rain on the parade. They won on Matchday 1, by a score of 2-1 in Busukuma, and we could only manage a return draw. Our fiercest rivals, and yet, we've still never managed to have beaten them, in a competitive or a friendly match. That search for the elusive win against Equestria continues.

Banija landed their first ever win over Equestria in the Round of 16 at AOCAF LXVI. Years of angst were excised by this national team, as [url=https://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?p=39501593#p39501593they crushed the Equestrians, 3-0[/url], in a match that may have finally begun to turn this rivalry towards team Banija. Now, the rivalry has cooled down, but Banijan dominance has been consistence- including their 2-1 over Equestria, in Equestria, during the group stages of ARC V .

2. Farfadillis. All time Banijan record against opponent- 3-6-0(W-L-T) (Record not up to date)

What makes a good international rivalry? You need a mixture of history and luck. Luck, to have played in plenty of high stakes matches against each other on the biggest stages- World Cups, AOCAFs, and the like. But you also need nearness. What makes these two know each other so well? We've played in twice as many competitive matches against Chromatika as we have against Farfadillis.

Well, let's go with the political intrigue. Of course, there's geography- Farfadillis is the closest nation to Banija that does not share a land border with Banija. Their former capitol, is on the northern tip of their island, which is just south of Busukuma, the Banijan capitol city. So of course, there's that familiarity. And when the Farfadillis national government fell apart and they fell into some sort of a controlled chaos, many refugees fled Farfadillis for the stability of Banija. Busukuma became the natural landing place. There are no official numbers, but there an estimated 100,000 or so Farf refugees across the country, but with over half of them, around 60,000, residing in Busukuma.

So there's that familiarity on an intimate level, especially in Banija, and especially in Banija's capitol. Especially in the capitol, it's always a huge deal when these two meet. And besides that? Well, of course, we [url=https://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?p=37273196#p37273196]dropped a few nuclear warheads[/url] on Farfadillis, where Banija's nuclear weapons got both hacked and stolen by operatives. While, surprisingly, it didn't cause as much damage as one would expect, 5 nuclear weapons are still quite a bit to get hit by. Farf citizens weren't exactly appreciative, and that is fresh in everybody's mind.

Lastly, look at the integration of our footballing systems. We have a combined league. With the combination of our top flights in the Shango-Fogoa Premier League, Banijan footballing fans and Farf footballing fans interact every single week. Sometimes peacefully, sometimes violently, always loud and passionately. For two seperate nations(plus Busoga), they have a very integrated league system. And that, of course, will mean that the rivalry is played out every week. Banijan teams v. Farf teams. Farf teams got the better of their Banijan opponents, by and large, throughout the inaugural season, but there is still plenty left to say on the subject.

This is Banija's clear #2 rival, ahead of anybody else, besides Equestria. And as the S-FPL continues, this rivalry will continue to be competitive for years to come. Not to mention, the two have played a pair of thrilling World Cup Finals matches against each other- Farfadillis being victorious in World Cup 81, and then being victorious again in World Cup 84, where they went on to win that World Cup. And they met in the Final of ARC V- with Farfadillis triumphing, 5-4, with a late winner in a festival of goals.

3. Chromatika. All time Banijan record against opponent- 8-3-2(W-L-T) (Record not up to date)

This is, admittedly, not the first nation you think of when you think of Banija's rivals. But There is a long-time history between these two nations. These two have more shared history than Banija and any other opponent, at least in competitive matches. Banija and Chromatika have faced off a grand total of 9 times competitively- all in the modern era of Banijan soccer, which is WCQ79-present. It was that first campaign back, after the RBSA bankruptcy, where it was established.

Banija had one of their biggest ever all-time wins in that Qualifying campaign, our first ever win over a top 5 opponent, when we beat then #4 Chromatika 2-1 in Jinja City. It's a night that has gone down in Banijan history. Looking back, many see it as Banija's first true launch towards where we are now- from a consistent middle of the pack nation in Qualifying, who couldn't do anything in the Cup of Harmony, to demanding a seat at the table by being an elite squad.

And we've played plenty of times since, as well. AOCAF LXI- we beat them in the group stages, only to fall to them in the Quarterfinals, on penalty kicks. We each got clean sheet victories over the other team at Eagle's Cup VIII, a tournament that we ended up winning. And we played them twice in World Cup Qualifying for 86, beating them twice en route to a perfect 18-0-0 Qualifying record. We played them again at the Finals, and we battled out a 2-2 draw.

They're a tough opponent, and considering the frequency of our matches in recent years, meeting up in the Finals would not be that unexpected. We know each other well, have played with plenty of stakes on the line. And, of course, there's those cultural and political connections that make the greatest international rivalries- a Banijan delegation, led by present Banijan Ambassador to Chromatika and former Banijan Minister of Justice, Xolile Lubabalo, helped shepherd Chromatika's transition to democracy. It's friendly, but there's plenty of history to make it interesting.

Of course, to make things even more interesting, these two met on the grandest stage of them all- the World Cup 93 Final. While Banija triumphed in a close-fought match (and a stunning come from behind second half victory), it has really moved Chromatika probably close to the top of Banija's rivals list, especially with S&T no longer participating in these tournaments and the Equestrian States no longer reaching the high levels they once had in the past.

Honorable Mentions
Nations mentioned here are considered key rivals, but there is not enough competitive match history to really define it as a rivalry. Nations are not listed in order.

- Siovanija & Teusland(Geographic proximity, cultural + political ties)
- Valanora(geographic proximity, recent KO stage battles at the AOCAFs and the WC, including meeting in the WC94 Final)
- Royal Kingdom of Quebec(general history and close political/cultural ties- Banija is a former colony of Quebec and they have been close ever since)
- Sarzonia(General sporting rivalry, history with 3 AOCAF matches against each other, 2 World Cup Qualifying matches, and a World Cup Finals match)
- Baker Park(cultural plus political ties)

1. Layvin Son-Saka

The most hyped prospect, in this sport anyways, is Gitonga Kahara for Banija. Those who are old enough to remember the hype coming out of DBC 42- well, you can say that he lived up to it, having a storybook ending for his career- his last game for Banija, captaining our country to our first ever World Cup title. Son-Saka has every bit the hype- and some say even more talent. "Gitonga Kahara will always hold a special place in the hearts of Banijans- but the next great winger is here, and Son-Saka has the potential to not be equalled by anybody."

Think of the exploits he's had for St. John's Arsenal as a teenager. Scoring the title-winning goal to lead St. John's Arsenal to their first Q-League title in 28 years, he's the main man in one of the biggest leagues in club football. And now, starring for his country too. He probably should have a WC title and been on the WC94 team- but Pam Scott opted to bring on her veteran, Sarafina Ikpeazu, for one last ride. Can't argue with those results, of course. But it's his team now. He got onto the team, got the #7 jersey and the starting job right away, and even has a regional title to show for it, being a key starter on Banija's AOCAF 70 winning team- the final AOCAF.

Of course, while he has been a bright spot, the team has gone quite far downhill since then. Widely recognized as the team's best player, he's been given the armband as the captain for the Kadongo Kamu not only this time around, but for the long-term, at just 24 years old. He's gladly taken on that responsibility, and despite there being senior players ahead of him, he will wear the armband for a decade+. He strong believes that he will compete for the biggest possible trophies for Banija, and that their brightest days are ahead- as opposed to behind. He's now been through the ups and downs- the joys of a shockingly surprising run to the quarterfinals of World Cup 97, and the lows of a brutal, and equally shocking, group stage elimination at ARC 3- followed by an embarrassing group stage elimination at World Cup 98, where he didn't even score a goal.

Has there ever been more pressure on a Banijan athlete than there is on Son-Saka now? Mega-talented, he was critical in starting the turnaround of the NT, leading them to a solid third place finish at ARC IV. And yet- he bombed at World Cup 99. Nobody looked good going forward, but for this man to not score a single goal? Impossible. He was pissed off and motivated, and helped lead the team back to the ARC Final. Despite a tough loss to Farfadillis in that Final, there's belief that was a major growth tournament- and it was true, as they were much stronger at World Cup 100. And then it was true even beyond that- he was the leading man for his team as they stormed to their first ARC trophy at the most recent edition of the tournament, beating both the tournament co-favorites, Valanora and the Squornshelan Remnant States, along the way. And he, once again, wore the armband as they stormed to a second straight regional title at ARC 7.

With not one, but two major regional trophies in hand, all eyes turn to World Cup glory- he desperately dreams of the day he can have a deep run in the World Cup. Will this cycle be that tournament? Also beyond, he's slowly but surely climbing the all-time Banijan scoring charts- he's 4th on the list, and 8 goals away from becoming a centurion. Will that happen for him this cycle? The chances are yes- and we will see if he can get beyond 100, and into the top 3.

2. Musoke Owole

The box to box midfielder is getting a lot of attention, as the 25 year old has fought his way into the starting XI for club and country, with his debut at ARC V. When you're in the center of the park of the country's biggest club, you know pressure- and Owole's eager to take it all in for his country as well. "You dream of these moments, being part of a starting XI wearing these colors, and now, I'm here." He told reporters. "My opportunity is now, and we're going to build towards World Cup 100."

He has long since ensured that he is a mainstay within the team- and with so much of the team changing around him, after a wave of retirements following Banija's ARC 7 triumph, he is suddenly both a seasoned veteran on this team, and maybe this team's most critical player. The way which he can orchestrate the midfield, both with and without the ball, are going to be critical in determining whether or not Banija is simply a talented team, that will go out at the first sign of trouble at World Cup 102- or whether this team can actually go blow for blow with the very best, and make a deep run here at World Cup 102.

After maybe a disappointing club season with Herzegovina City, he's determined to shake that off with an excellent qualifying campaign- and his desire to parlay another big international tournament, into a big-money move abroad, is not exactly a secret.

3. Cyrile Resnais-Mahama

Resnais-Mahama is the tip of the spear for the new generation of Banijan players. The RBSA has long had a heavy reliance on the Elven Premiership and Q-League to find NTers- the former with an extensive youth scouting system in the country, and the latter having a huge amount of Banijan/Quebecois dual-nationals in their ranks. AWO, and Layvin Son-Saka- Resnais-Mahama has solidifed himself as the next in a long line of Banijan/Quebecois dual-national attackers who ball out for team Banija?

He's been an absolute stud in the Q-League for a while- 30 goals in 3 straight seasons. And now, has gotten his payday, securing an 8 figure move to Tihon just days before the beginning of World Cup 99. While his debut major tournament was a disappointment, just 1 goal at the head of a fangless attack, he followed that up with an excellent club season. He was in the #9 role for TIhon as they not only made a run to the IFCF Challenger's Cup Final, but also finished in the top 4 in the Red League- meaning that, next season, they'll be in the Champions League.

For his country, despite his poor World Cup 99, he balled out at the ARC, scoring 6 times at ARC V, including twice in the Final. He redeemed himself for his poor World Cup 99 by spearheading a strong Banijan attack at World Cup 100, scoring a trio of goals at that tournament, and then scoring 4 times at World Cup 101. He's now known as a big tourney player- 9 goals at ARC 6, and 7 goals at ARC 7, has this guy, in his mid-20s, in a position to maybe, potentially catch AWO's scoring records. He's going to certainly have another prolific qualifying campaign- but can he be at the heart of this elite attack for a deep run at World Cup 102? Only time will tell for the Tihon striker.

Current KPB+ ranking--16.04 (30th)
style--+ 2.827
Formation--3-4-1-2
In the “BP System” or the “BP Way” (neither of those should be considered as something used officially or unofficially—if you wanted to term it as such as something of your own IC creation, go for it) the 3-4-1-2 is more literal than the manner in which it's used RL.
A discussion I had with another user made me contemplate providing a bit more concrete info on just who plays where when you see my lineups/bench for individual matches.
Defense: the three backs play tight to one another when the ball is in the middle or defensive thirds—they should really be termed LCB/CCB/RCB. The outside pair will never be wider than diameter of the center circle. They both man-mark (unless there is an IC tactical reason they don't) and the centerback zonal marks (usually helping one of the other two). The CB is technically a fullback as they have more freedom to move forward with the ball at feet. In a pinch, an emergency situation as a sub, they could all play any of the three positions.
Midfield: there is a good deal of set responsibility among the four across midfield, but the one thing that is always a constant is the wings are the workhorses, they cover more distance than the other players. I've hinted at or flat out said in match reports in the past that left wing (and they are 99.9% of time always left footed) is THE talismanic position in The System, as right fullback is considered (in BP) as usually the weakest position in a flat back four.
The two central midfielders usually have a specific role, one as the playmaker, the distributor and the other as the defensive, hard tackler, disruptor, ball winner.
The preferred position is listed first, but the ones that follow show how versatile that player is. For CM's the left/right designation is the stronger side for that player, but in theory almost anyone in midfield can play in the center of midfield.
Forward: Ah yes, the wild card element. In this case, the differentiation should be looked at from the perspective of another sport—basketball.
The three positions are almost adapted from the indoor game: the center forward, the target man, the number 9—the one who plays up front but facing away from the goal. Mostly it's men who hold down this role in the NT, although not always.
The striker—they want to be played into an area by a pass, or want room to get a touch before shooting. They face goal, but usually in or very close to the box.
The 'slot'--what a lot of people call the attacking midfielder or the CAM. This is a player that can dribble and create their own shot, or draw defenders and find others. There's a reason why this position can be played by a midfielder or a forward and the rationale usually depends on a chemistry between a pair or trio, but more recently this has reverted back to a forward spot.
In conclusion—BP should always be RP'd (of course at your discretion, and I will always adapt to anyone who RP's first if something that's not necessarily canon is mentioned) as--
*fast, short passing
*high lines & pressing
*offside trap
*technically sound
*not easily intimidated
*willing to play anyone, anywhere

National Anthem--"Hear Our Voices Commonwealth"

Nickname--since the end of the 1960's the National Team has been known as "The Bees", a period when the team's uniforms consisted of alternating black and gold hoops.
Previous to that time and subsequently through periods in the 1980's and 90's, the team was usually referred to by the county's national animal, the Elks; the women's National Team were always 'Lady Elks' until the advent of mixed gender play, which was revived during the Jenna Raven Cup and there are still numerous mentions of Elks in the supporters song “We are the Gold & Black”, which currently has close to 175 stanzas.

Colors--Black & Gold (while they are just 2 of the 5 main colors on the flag of Baker Park--Blue, Red and White are the others--black & gold have been closely associated in the nation's consciousness as representative of the country since its founding.)

Tactics:
Manager Geraldo Rys and his assistants Mara Tapi and Toms Elwin have decided to implement a slightly aggressive 3-5-2 formation during their tenure as Zenic's national team staff. This formation is intended to maximize the wingbacks' strengths without neutralizing the rest of the team's impact. The young wingbacks' stamina allows them to go forward and cautiously assist in attack to create goal-scoring chances while still being able to get back and provide numbers to stop opposition scoring opportunities. Meanwhile, the Center-backs, Central Midfielders and Forwards create a solid pillar through the heart of the pitch that is intended to both be an alternative route to goal scoring and a multi layered obstruction to the opponents.

The team will play a moderately defensive style with a back four, one or two defensive midfielders out of a midfield three, two wingers, and a lone striker.

Libesia is a poor, newly independent postcolonial nation. Many facilities will be below those that visitors from wealthier nations are used to. Visitors are recommended to only attend games as part of organised tour packages by recognised operators, and not to travel beyond the capital, Hayaale. Sales of alcohol are restricted and women are requested to dress modestly. Homosexuals should not engage in public displays of behaviour likely to offend. Libesians are nonetheless enthusiastic fans and will be keen to welcome foreign visitors, show off their vibrant cultures including dance, music, and cooking. A love of football will be evident everywhere.

Manager
Image Ellzidan (F)
Age: 3416
The Drawkian elf comes into a culture that seems to fit her own way of playing and will try to pick up where Dan Eastwood and Emeline Millet left off, hopefully replicating the Euran's penchant for winning trophies. The team looks like it is set to open up a bit more under Elizidan's guidance, returning to a form of football that they are more accustomed to that it was during Millet's time at the helm. While she got her first cycle off to a good start with an appearance in the ARC Final, last cycle left a bit to be desired as the team only got to the quarterfinals despite being heavy favorites to finally win their sixth title and then followed it up with a group stage exit in the ARC. While no one would say she is on the hot seat, she will need a solid showing in this edition of the competition to bounce back from the bitter taste of disappointment last cycle brought.

Assistant Manager
Matheo Dybvik
Age: 55
A former national team centerback, Dybvik looks to be the counter balance towards Elizidan's more offensive slant, looking to ensure the team does stay reliably sturdy through the middle and on the defense. Also being a Vanorian, there is hope that he will also be able to bridge the gap in any sort of culture clash or misunderstanding for the Drawkian while she is at the helm of the Marauders.

Keepers
GK: Tobias Propst, age 31, CA Paulinthal Image
GK: Meline Sandanger, age 32, SC Rinaldi (F)
GK: Tanya Rinaldi, age 28, 6'0", 167 lbs, Tihon Image (F)
GK: Philip Løvseth, age 25, 6'1", 176 lbs, Eolorent Image
GK: Nikolai Simonsen, age 34, Soldarian FC

After breaking on to the scene early with Pasargan giants CA Paulinthal, Tobias Propst has taken a firm hold of the number one shirt and will refuse to let it go with the sheer amount of skill and talent he possesses. A tall and very talented keeper with keen reflexes and instincts, there is reason to believe that he is the answer to the Marauders questions in goal for as long as he remains at the top of his game. There are quite a few question marks behind him, Sandanger looking to capitalize on good domestic seasons to etch her way into the second shirt. Rinaldi has looked quite good in Chromatika but the number of goals shipped is a bit on the high side for someone of her talent, though that is not all on her. Simonsen's move to Soldarian and good outing gets a surprise recall back to the pool after having missed out with his time in Pasarga being a bit too roller coaster to be relied upon, though he might be there to give a veteran presence to some of the younger players. One of those might be bursting on to the scene Philip Løvseth, as his shot stopping abilities helped Eolorent finish in the Champions League places and well worth a look in with the national team as a result.

Defenders
LB: Alejandro Nyman, age 28, 5'9", 157 lbs, Soldarian FC
LB: Reuben Candelaria, age 25, Hondo FC
LB: William Waage, age 27, Alexia Image
CB: Andi Berggren, age 28, Raynor City United
CB: Simen Prytz, age 29, Mar Sara FC
CB/MC: Wilmer Krogsæter, age 30, Royal Jam FC Image
CB: Eric Nordström, age 31, SC Rinaldi
CB: Viktor Fløtre, age 26, Shearwater Image
CB: Amón Castaneda, age 27, Club Atlético Bexar
RB: Brage Hoel, age 30, Raynor City United
RB: Viljar Valen, age 28, Ibini FC
RB: Adrian Kielland, age 27, 5'10", 176 lbs, Mipojoseon Image

A new cycle upon us and a completely brand new back line that looks to steady the ship and solidify what is often seen as the biggest problem area of the national team regardless of managers or their respective styles. Having two starters who play for Raynor City United might go a long way towards helping with that with Berggren and Hoel looking to bring that winning culture and high standards to the national team. Their chemistry might be put to the test with Berggren set to be on the left side of the central defense pairing with Prytz from Mar Sara preferring to be on the right being more one footed than his United compatriot. Both are solid defenders in the middle of the park and should provide a lot of cover and interceptions to stymie the opposition attack. Hoel's pace on the outside should help in tracking back but also allowing her to go forward, while on the left Nyman provides a bit of everything but no true master at any aspect of his game. Due to a lack of quality centerbacks, Wilmer Krogsæter is now expected to provide cover there instead of in the midfield while there was a huge surprise in the inclusion of Adrian Kielland, who plies their trade in Quebec, a league not known for their defense. If the fullback gets on the pitch, it likely is in a situation where it is an all out attack to try and grab a late goal.

Midfielders
A/ML: Leandro Nyquist, age 29, Tihon Image
LW: Mathis Hovland, age 31, Raynor City United
LW: Nora Foss, age 28, Hondo FC (F)
D/MC: Olaf Myrhe, age 31, 6'6", 220 lbs, Soldarian FC
D/MC: Sander Vestbø, age 29, Istria City FC Image
MC: Zack Sjöberg, age 31, Crossroads Image
A/MC: Nova Björklund, age 28, AFC Carroll Lewiston Image (F)
A/MC: Iben Hoel, age 28, Hondo FC (F)
AMC/ST: Laborious Hawk, age 773, RGS Athletic Image
AMC/R: Nora Almås, age 28, Alexia Image (F)
A/MC: Markus Jaeger, age 31, Mar Sara FC
RW: Eric Forsberg, age 28, 5'10", 168 lbs, Chromatik Image
RW/RB: Matas Fjeldberg, age 26, Aardswood United Image
RW: Axel Ree, age 28, Hondo FC

Few words can truly encapsulate the sheer amount of skill and drive that Laborious Hawk provides in the middle of the park and with the change in formation, he will likely shift to being more of a shadow striker sort of position rather than a facilitator. While not an out and out attacking or playmaking force in the middle, Zack Sjöberg does a little bit of everything well and is pretty handy in playmaking even if not elite at it , along with a winning pedigree with having developed as Pasargan giants CA Paulinthal, before moving back to the Empire with Capri, though the call back to Rushmore in the prestigious Red League of Chromatika beckoned. Both wings are in for a change, as the entire right side from last cycle needed to be replaced and Forsberg's exceptional development at Chromatik and performance in the ARC has won the winger a starting spot. Behind him is the industrious and bit more defensive minded Fjeldberg who helped Aardswood to a surprise title, as did Ree with Hondo in the Premiership. After a few stellar showings, Myrhe and his impressive six foot six stature will play the role of destroyer and screen the defense when needed to, while Sander Vestbø is the biggest question mark in the midfield as Myrhe's back up with playing in Banija and that ultra competitive and offensive league. There is some doubts about his defensive capabilities but he did play well when called upon in the ARC and the staff seem to believe in him.

Forwards
ST/AMC: Drake Rinaldi, age 28, 6'3", 184 lbs, Tihon Image
AMC/ST: Chell Meadows, age 28, 5'10", 162 lbs, Kingston FC Image (F)
ST: Leonardo Holm, age 28, Hondo FC
ST: Åsne Sørensen, age 30, Istria City FC Image (F)
ST: Max Mjøs, age 29, Dartford Oilers Image

It did not feel like the Haaland era was at an end but at thirty-four and with younger, promising talent behind him he was not included in the pool and his last act for the national team will be scoring the winning penalty against Baker Park in the ARC to win the third placed playoff. Now Rinaldi has two to three cycles as a starter to showcase his raw ability that everyone has been hyping since he and his twin sister were first scouted over ten years ago. Strong, plenty of pace, and a good shot with the ability to bring others into the attack when needed to, he is the complete forward and looks to be the tip of the spear for a fluid attack. Meadows behind him uses pace to get behind the lines and is a fairly good passer of the ball but does not have the sort of strength to play that same complete forward role and will likely be brought on against slower opponents or when the team shifts to a two striker system. Holm can do a bit of the complete role but his skill set is a bit more like Meadow as is Sørensen. The only other player in the pool who could probably come close to replicating the style that Rinaldi plays with is Max Mjøs, who helped spur a Dartford Oilers side to winning the league title in Dantopia, though they are on the outside looking in at the start of the cycle towards making the Finals roster.

Captain: Laborious Hawk
Set Piece Taker: Laborious Hawk
Penalty Taker: Drake Rinaldi

Tactics
Image
A few cycles through her tenure at the helm, it is fair to say that the Vanorian public as well as the team in her charge has taken quite kindly to the Drawkian elf's tactics more than her predecessor, even if Millet had the better results. Ellzidan has tweaked her tactics slightly during her time with the Marauders, having her midfield play in a more advanced role besides a destroyer who sits in front of the defense to screen them from probing attacks and allowing the fullbacks to get forward if they desire to. There is plenty of speed and quick passing leading up to clinical finishers in the striker and false nine role that Hawk has played in this system.

note: players represented in formations below is the usual starting 11

Image

Primary Formation
4-5-1 Attacking

The most used formation. A 4 man backline, 2 number 10s and wide
midfielders offering support on the flanks. One striker constantly accompanied with
the 2 attacking midfielders in attack and staying forward on defense, waiting for a
quick counter attack. All of this is controlled by the engine man, the lone center
midfielder. In this offensive formation, the centre midfielder is the creative
playmaker who controls the flow of the attack. Thus, the engine man is by far
the most important position on the pitch.

Image
Secondary Formation
4-4-2

The plan B. The 4-4-2 is commonly used against teams with a large midfield threat or with strong counter-attacking play.
It is a much more balanced formation. A similar backline of 4, 2 centre midfielders, 2 wide midfielders and 2 strikers.
The centre midfielders have different roles: the first midfielder (Papiola, Séhú, L'Aiderlé and Coisteya)'s job is to sit back on attack, focus on securing the midfield and stop quick breaks.
The second midfielder (Florensí, Crostúbel, L'Aiderlé and Loindenbirgh)'s job is to act as a playmaker for the forwards and wide midfielders on attack, stay on the outside of the box for messy balls, and link the defence to the attack.

This Roster Makes Quarterfinals

After a predictable failure to qualify in World Cup 101 the MFA got mad. They weren't mad about not qualifying, after all that was predictable, especially since Milchama sat out World Cup 100 (note - Milchama did not sit out WC 100, the media ignored it and nobody noticed), they were mad because the Warriors lost to Drawkland. Drawkland! The team that always chokes in big things, like playoffs for World Cup qualifying. So the old team was replaced by a brand new team. This brand new team has been in two tournaments, the Cup of Harmony and ARC and both times this team made the quarterfinals. Therefore, we assume this team will continue to make the quarterfinals. We are unclear what this means in the context of World Cup qualifying which does not have a quarterfinals, it's fine, we'll figure it out later.

Here's the roster:

Manager: Elton Freehold - Not actually free or a freeholder for that matter. Changed his name because he thought it sounded cool, now it sounds suspiciously capitalist, either way he's here because he was the first one to say yes.

Freehold was contractually obligated to keep up Milchama's illogical 3-3-4 system.

GK: Elad Lindsey - Yes, two first names. No that does not effect how well he plays keeper. Solid 8/10.
D: Eden Donest - Good wing back, one of the better players on this team. Expect good things from him.
D: Ran Ben Aron - Hard nosed centerback. I feel like every centerback in Milchama is "hard nosed," this really isn't a unique descriptor. Whatever, it fits.
D: Dom Donaldson - Surprisingly fast for a wingback but surprisingly bad at tackling for a defender. Definitely a potential weak link.
M: Rickard Jones - Good player, solid midfielder.
M: Laila Miller - The rare hard nosed center mid. She never flinches from a tackle or a fight. The leader of the team and the captain.
M: Agam Thun - She's short but feisty, can run all over the place.
F: Darbai Tegusken - Runs all over the places and occasionally even scores the goals.
F: Riley Clashko - Goalscorer extraordinaire, looked really good in the New Spartan, Alexandrian, and Karakorum leagues so gets the call up.
F: Omer Hallam - Tall and great in the air. Can lead a decent counterattack despite the height.
F: Juan Wandy - Great crosser of the ball, decent passer too. The offensive wide forward.

Subs:
GK: Fletcher Hargue - Look our backup GK needed to be a Fletcher ok.
GK: Sammy Guicantell - Gui can definitely tell.
D: Evan Evans - His parents disliked him as a child.
D: Shimshon Habakuk - Large man tackle!
D: Dor Gendt - He's part of the Dor Generation!
M: Miguel Hasmula - Tricky mid
M: Liat Kramer - Generative mid
M: Yankiel Thomas - Running mid
F: Avraham Ben Aroya - He knows how to lead a strike
F: Tenli Kesef - Surprisingly not rich
F: Del Dal - Yes that's his real name. He also scores goals
F: Megan Hamanup - Solid sub forward

The Eshialand Soccer Federation
Campionato Esportiva XL Champions
Roster for World Cup CII
Image

A year on from the end of Kenny Morgan's historic tenure as NT manager, it's safe to say that Melissa Carey has more than settled into the role. She proved that, with the right outlook and the right management, the team that had been 1-7-11 in the World Cup under Morgan was not just capable of winning matches on the biggest stage, but capable of more than anyone expected. Never before had Eshialand gotten to the final 16, and she brought them to the last 8.

The Campionato Esportiva was a bit of a rockier story. The group stage was an amazing showing, with a 4-1-0 record featuring a record 10-0 decimation of Robostania, but the team immediately flatlined as the Round of 16 saw them dispatched by Sylestone for their worst finish in five years.

Despite the regional disappointment, there are no doubts about her ability to command the team heading into WC102, and the team is readier than ever before for their attempt to qualify for an eighth straight World Cup.

First international: Aut-Ves-Nat 1-3 Eshialand (BoF LXXV)
Best win/Most goals for: Robostania 0-10 Eshialand (CE XLIII)
Worst losses/Most goals against: Valanora 8-1 Eshialand (AOCAF LXX), Milchama 8-1 Eshialand (AOCAF LXX)
Highest-scoring match: Eshialand 8-3 Fhulghamous Peninsula (CE XLI), Britonisea 3-8 Eshialand (WCQ C)

Stadia:
The Eshialand City SuperDome, Eshialand City (capacity: 75,000).
The premier hub of Eshian football ever since it was built for the World Cup 88 cycle, the SuperDome continues to be the Owls’ home base for this campaign. The capital of and largest city in Eshialand, Eshialand City has everything you might expect out of a large city, including an extensive public transit network that'll get you from Penrose Airport to the Waterview Hotel in 30 minutes flat. While the city may appear boring, however, the people themselves definitely aren't, as something interesting and bizarre always seems to be happening. The boring life is in Bellvale, or at least so ECers like to say.

The climate in Eshialand City is quite mild, with summer (when WCQs occur on the Eshian calendar) highs usually hovering around 25ºC. Should rain end up in the forecast, the SuperDome has a retractable roof so the match won't be rescheduled.

Matches hosted:
MD5 vs. StrayaRoos
MD11 vs. Choppyhausen

The Launchpad, Bellvale (capacity: 50,000).
Just outside the Capital District in the surrounding province of Toren lies Eshialand’s second-largest city, Bellvale. Its critics will say it’s just a suburb of the capital, and frankly it kind of is. However, the residents of the city will fiercely disagree with that, and it fuels the rivalry between Lliga 0’s Bellvale Rockets and the Eshialand City clubs, chiefly Reial. Given that Bellvale is right next to Eshialand, the weather should be expected to be just as pleasant. There is no roof on the stadium however, so rain may lead to delays.

Bellvale does have a reputation for being much more boring than the capital, so players and fans may choose to stay in Eshialand City (a 20 minute subway ride away) instead of the Olympia Gardens Hotel to have something to do nearer their hotel, but the stadium itself and the antics surrounding it more than make up for the rest of the city’s boringness. And yes, the stadium has been repaired following the Saperetian team’s decision to drive a bus onto the pitch during the Cup of Harmony.

Matches hosted:
MD2 vs. Saperetia
MD10 vs. Marnack Confederacy

Yzandria Sport Center, Yzandria (capacity: 45,000)
Despite being the second-largest metro area in Eshialand, Yzandria’s position much further inland, with only forest to the east and Super-Llamaland to the south, leaves the city often feeling left behind compared to the rest of Eshialand. That extends to sports, as they hadn’t hosted any sort of international sporting events in a decade before the Cup of Harmony… but the city and its fans did such a good job that they were selected to host a couple of matches in World Cup Qualifying. The city’s cooled by the forest around it, so weather will be around 20ºC while your team is there, and again no roof means rain delays are a risk.

Unlike the Eshialand-Bellvale metro, most people in Yzandria still commute by car, but traffic won’t be much of a problem for your team or your fans as the Yzander Suites are just steps from the stadium. The city does have an under-appreciated subway system, however, so if you want to get around the city there’s a quick option that’s never too cramped.

Matches hosted:
MD7 vs. Germanic Cat
MD8 vs. Darkmania

Formation: 4-3-2-1

Manager: Melissa CAREY (F, 41)
Even if the CE could’ve been better, WC101 proved that she knows exactly what she’s doing heading into the qualifiers this time around. Her much better grasp on communication — with both the team and the media — than Morgan’s and her ability to see the bright side of any tough situation will surely help a team that historically has been plagued with an inability to get out of their own heads and a nation that can’t help but expect nothing out of that team.

Siovanija & Teusland National Football Team

Nation Name: United Republics of Siovanija and Teusland

Demonyms: Siovanijan, Teus
FA: Siovanija and Teusland Football Association (STFA)
Colours: Blue and gold
Anthem: ‘High Mountain Skies’
Capital City: Borograd
Other Major Cities: St. Jakob, Stelburg, Vlaikograd, Chernovets, Felsenkirchen
Highest Domestic League: Superklasse
Nicknames: The Goldhorns
Style Modifier: +3

Manager: Raphael Klopfer

A new era, a new generation - new beginnings aplenty for the Goldhorns at the 102nd World Cup. Dominik Weissmann resigned as manager after the poor performance at World Cup 101 - he was not entirely to blame for the campaign ending in failure, with the numerous distractions and struggles going on at home certainly having its influence on the team, but he accepted that the responsibility was on his shoulders as the manager. It was the conclusion to a very successful run of form since the Goldhorns’ return to international isolation, and perhaps a snap back to reality for the national side.

Replacing Weissmann will be none other than Raphael Klopfer. Klopfer, who was capped by the Goldhorns over 100 times in the pre-isolation era and was a stalwart centre back for the national side in his prime, has been the manager of the Goldhorns’ U21 squad, achieving strong results in the past at the Di Bradini Cup, and has since served as the STFA’s Director of Player Development. So it’s a new manager at the helm - at least for now. There is talk that FC Teussen Stelburg manager and Goldhorns legend Thorsten Kramer would potentially be interested in the national team job for World Cup 102, but that remains speculation for now. Kramer has played down the speculation, saying he is committed to FC Teussen Stelburg, but as long as Der Kaiser is not the head coach of the Goldhorns, the media will speculate that he will be the next one.

Klopfer is expected to stick to the same basic tactical style that the Goldhorns have always played - a 4-3-3 with attacking football - with some modification. He was well-regarded in his time with the U21s for his ability to organize the defence, something which will be pivotal to the Goldhorns’ chances in the ARC. Klopfer’s sides are known to build from the back, requiring the CBs to both be good on the ball, while also demanding a lot from the fullbacks and wingers to widen the pitch. In the middle, it’s typically a playmaker, a holding midfielder, and a #10 playing what domestic media likes to call ‘the Le Meji role’ after the Teus-Farf national team star takilante, Xorge Le Meji.

Klopfer has chosen to name a 46-man national team pool for the qualifying tournament, from which 23 players will be selected for different stretches of qualifiers. The pool is a mix of those who have been national team stalwarts in the past, those who debuted at the recent ARC 7 tournament which featured a lineup of entirely domestic-based players who had never been capped under age 25, and others who have been in and around the national team in recent years as well as some very talented youth players. Without further ado, let's look at the roster!

Goalkeepers
GK -- Sepp Kranz -- 31y/o -- FC Teussen Stelburg
GK -- Ludwig Gottschall -- 38y/o -- TSV Marzig
GK -- Heinz-Jorg Lehr -- 25y/o -- VfL Reinbronn
GK -- Gerhard von Reinwald -- 23y/o -- FC Felsenkirchen 1879
GK -- Zlatko Stastny -- 25y/o -- Energija Chernovets
GK -- Bastian Busch -- 23y/o -- FC Rotmunde 1932

Core: Sepp Kranz is the man between the sticks yet again, and he's been excellent for his club in recent years as FC Teussen Stelburg captured the Superklasse title this spring. He's something of a legend at his club, and quickly moving into that category for his club as well. With many of the past generation of Teus keepers retiring, Ludwig Gottschall will serve as the second choice in what is likely his final international campaign.
To Watch: Gerhard von Reinwald is the obvious answer. The young Felsenkirchen keeper had an excellent debut season for the north coast club replacing a retiring Per Holz, and it's expected that he will have every opportunity to prove himself as an integral part of the national squad. Heinz-Jorg Lehr was the starter at the ARC, and he will also have a role in this team.

Left Backs
LB -- Leon Wimmer -- 29y/o -- FC Teussen Stelburg
LB -- Simeon Bakalov -- 24y/o -- FK Metropola Borograd
LB -- Andrej Berkel -- 28y/o -- 1912 Stelburg
LB -- Bjorn Schnell -- 22y/o -- 1912 Stelburg

Core: Leon Wimmer, the FC Teussen Stelburg stalwart, remains the country's first choice left back under Raphael Klopfer. Always speedy and good with the ball, especially when called upon to deliver a cross, he had a great season in Teussen's championship-winning year back home. Simeon Bakalov was a key part of FK Metropola Borograd's roster this year, too, and has a small chance of surpassing Wimmer should he be able to put together an excellent run of performances.
To Watch: Bjorn Schnell lives up to his surname - it means 'quick' in Teus. He gets the call to the national team even though he isn't always first choice at his club, but there are certain attributes that Schnell has that make him an easy pick here. He's still a bit raw, and needs refining, but he could have a long future in the gold shirt.

Centre Backs
CB -- Arnold Apel -- 31y/o -- FC Felsenkirchen 1879
CB -- Erwin Sanner -- 31y/o -- Soldarian FC (VAL)
CB -- Rochus Werner -- 20y/o -- FC Felsenkirchen 1879
CB -- Gernot Brand -- 24y/o -- FC Teussen Stelburg
CB -- Emil von Tessin -- 22y/o -- FC Teussen Stelburg
CB -- Viktor Frank -- 25y/o -- FC St. Jakob
CB -- Silvio Rodl -- 35y/o -- TSV Marzig
CB -- Arminius von und zu Danneberg -- 18y/o -- Sapphirus Mariahilf (PEL)

Core: The duo of Apel and Sanner remains the country's top pairing, with Apel being one of the key leaders for both the national team and his club, Felsenkirchen. Sanner has had a great career in Valanora and consistently shown up when the national team has needed him to. But Klopfer - a former centre back himself - will also be considering many other solid options here. Rochus Werner and Emil von Tessin have been the much-discussed future of the national team at this position, and they'll earn chances here - so will Gernot Brand, who had an excellent season for Teussen this year and fully deserved the call-up. Elsewhere, Silvio Rodl is getting towards the end of his career, and isn't quite on the same level as he once was, but his leadership will be valuable in a position with plenty of young guns.
To Watch: von Tessin and Werner are the main ones - but don't forget Arminius von und zu Danneberg, most commonly referred to just as 'Arminius.' Relatively unknown in Siovanija & Teusland, currently playing in Prinz-Eugens-Land, statistics show he is one of the best defenders in that country even at a young age. And his surname alone - a direct member of the former Teus imperial family - makes him interesting and controversial.

Right Backs
RB -- Dejan Mesko -- 30y/o -- Energija Chernovets
RB -- Benno Waldvogel -- 23y/o -- TSV Marzig
RB -- Rolf Reichenbach -- 33y/o -- FC Teussen Stelburg
RB -- Bernhard Berger -- 25y/o -- Marlesee 97

Core: It's Dejan Mesko who has been the main man at right back for a few years now, the Energija Chernovets long-timer, and his skillful defensive abilities provide a bit of a contrast to typical fullbacks from our country who love, love, love to attack. Rolf Reichenbach provided a lot of that in his younger years, and still can in bursts now - but he's lost a bit of pace with age, and is more valued now for his leadership abilities. This is likely to be his final international campaign.
To Watch: Benno Waldvogel is an all-around right back that balances the defensive and attacking duties of the position very well, and he's become quite a disciplined player having plied his trade at TSV Marzig, easily the nation's best defending team, for several years now. It didn't quite click for him at the ARC, but he'll have plenty of chances to break into the first team during this World Cup qualifying campaign.

Centre Midfield
CM -- Santutxo Kramer -- 26y/o -- FC Teussen Stelburg
CM -- Mats Winter -- 28y/o -- TSV Marzig
CM -- Hans Gruber -- 31y/o -- FC Teussen Stelburg
CM -- Martin Kaiser -- 23y/o -- FC Felsenkirchen 1879
CM -- Ludvik Pogacar -- 21y/o -- FK Metropola Borograd
CM -- Damir Prekmurje -- 33y/o -- FK Metropola Borograd

Core: It's fully Santutxo Kramer's position in the midfield now; after a Golden Ball season in the championship year for FC Teussen Stelburg he is without a doubt the best midfielder in his position in the country. He'll enter World Cup qualifying for the first time as the nailed-on starter for the Goldhorns, and fans can expect excellent passing vision and great skill moves in the middle of the park from him. Next to him will be Mats Winter, also moving up into the starting role in the more defensive part of the traditional Goldhorns' midfield. Winter is excellent at dropping deeper to help out the defence, while also typically being assigned to mark the opponent's top players. He has excellent defensive vision and is also good at getting the ball quickly to players like Kramer around him. It's not all over for some of the Goldhorns' vets, either: Hans Gruber and Damir Prekmurje are still here, and Raphael Klopfer notes they will both have a key role to play.
To Watch: Martin Kaiser and Ludvik Pogacar make up the duo of the future that will likely see their first major appearances for the national team during these qualifiers. Kaiser is the prototypical advanced playmaker, having had an excellent year in blue with FC Felsenkirchen 1879, while Pogacar provides a bit more of the brawn, a physical type who has learned well from his mentor Damir Prekmurje. Pogacar will be a key part of the national team going forward.

Attacking Midfield
CAM -- Xôrgé Lé Méjî -- 30y/o -- 1912 Stelburg
CAM -- Stanislav Sokol -- 20y/o -- FK Metropola Borograd
CAM -- Dietfried Sonnenwende -- 19y/o -- FC Teussen Stelburg
CAM -- Silvestr Pavlicek -- 28y/o -- Wirr Tsi (CMT)

Core: Xorge Le Meji might just be the most important player on this team, with the way he is able to have an impact on any game and the way he can immediately inject energy into the team is a huge part of its past success. Le Meji plays in a different style to anybody this country has ever had in his position, coming close to a position defined in his home country as a ‘takilante,’ and with a seemingly endless energy to make threatening runs. Le Meji has become a key offensive force for this team and his chemistry with forward Einar Hackl is a devastating combo. He led the Superklasse in goals this year with 26, and has noted that he wants to shoot the ball more often while with the Goldhorns.
To Watch: Stanislav Sokol and Dietfried Sonnenwende are going to be the ones expected to pick up where Le Meji eventually leaves off one day, and they each come with a different type of football. Sokol is one of the first domestic players to really try to fill that same role that Le Meji plays, while also retaining more traditional Siovanijan characteristics and being perhaps a bit more physical. He's still a raw talent with plenty of room to grow. Sonnenwende, meanwhile, is your traditional #10, who had a breakout year for FC Teussen Stelburg this year and can expect to feature plenty for the Goldhorns now and in the future.

Left Wingers
LW -- Dusan Korlikov -- 29y/o -- Montreal Koreana (QUE)
LW -- Josef Weber -- 28y/o -- FC Teussen Stelburg
LW -- Veljko Vadimic -- 29y/o -- FK Metropola Borograd
LW -- Ruprecht Benz -- 20y/o -- FC Teussen Stelburg

Core: This position has always been a battle, and with most of these guys now entering their primes, that can only be expected to continue. Korlikov, Weber and Vadimic - the Goldhorns are spoiled for choice in this position, and really any of the 3 could end up as the primary option by the end of the qualifying campaign - it'll all depend on form. Korlikov has been the first choice at the last few international tournaments, Weber has had an excellent campaign with Teussen and put himself back into the conversation, and Vadimic was the original breakout star when this trio was a bit younger who has become almost underrated in recent years.
To Watch: Ruprecht Benz was a standout with the Goldhorns at the ARC, and has looked good in his appearances at FC Teussen Stelburg as well, even if stuck behind Josef Weber from time to time. He's probably not going to get a crazy amount of minutes in these qualifiers with the names ahead of him, but the future is looking good for this player and he'll likely have the LW spot on lock for many years to come.

Right Wingers
RW -- Reto Zschokke -- 32y/o -- FC Teussen Stelburg
RW -- Aleksander Kosch-Kovarik -- 35y/o -- TSV Marzig
RW -- Walter Waltz -- 22y/o -- FC Kaiserhaven
RW -- Marjan Trstenjak -- 30y/o -- FK Metropola Borograd

Core: Similar to the other wing, there's a standout core of players here who have earned their spot over the years. Aleksander Kosch-Kovarik was the lead horse in the race for quite a while, but at age 35, he's likely to have a more limited role in likely his final international campaign. Reto Zschokke looks set to be the starter for the Goldhorns after a great year at Teussen Stelburg, but Marjan Trstenjak may also have something to say about that.
To Watch: Walter Waltz had a breakout year at FC Kaiserhaven in the Superklasse, and was a huge part of the club's success last year. He looks to have great pace on the wing, and he's also known as something of a free kick specialist. With a bit of luck, this could be a breakout campaign for him with the national team as well.

Forwards
CF -- Einar Hackl -- 28y/o -- TSV Marzig
CF -- Wolf Wind -- 31y/o -- Raynor City United (VAL)
CF -- Anatoly Konstantinov -- 21y/o -- FK Pomorie
CF -- Friedhelm Wagner -- 21y/o -- FC St. Jakob
CF -- Egon Schroder -- 24y/o -- 1. FC Vaihingen
CF -- Ben Bing -- 28y/o -- 1912 Stelburg

Core: The forward position has run through Einar Hackl in the last, well, decade - and that's most likely going to continue here. The dominant forward didn't have the best year of his career at the club level, as Marzig finished 4th and just missed out on Champions League football, but he's really never stopped scoring in the gold shirt since he first put on the famous #9. It's almost unfair, then, that Wolf Wind has to settle for second - the man has been prolific for Raynor City United of all clubs, and he's basically taken every chance he's gotten in the national shirt too. Raphael Klopfer has stated already that he wants to use Wind a bit more, and we're likely to see some of that in this tournament.
To Watch: The 'next ones' are pretty clear - Anatoly Konstantinov is a big man capable of scoring big goals, and he's got a big personality to go along with it. He famously wears 'Anatoly' on his shirt instead of his surname, and his incredible finishing ability has made him a key candidate to move to a bigger club domestically or abroad in the near future. Friedhelm Wagner, meanwhile, was the quiet star on a decent FC St. Jakob side this season, and it earned him Young Player of the Year honours at home. Konstantinov is the flashier player more likely to score a highlight-reel goal; Wagner is the workhorse who's going to keep his head down and create his own chances. There's reason to be excited about them both.

First-choice Starting XI
A 23-man squad from this pool will be called up for various matchdays and can usually be found in my latest RP. If that is not the case, assume the following roster:

Set Pieces:

Free Kicks: Dusan Korlikov, Xorge Le Meji
Penalties: Einar Hackl, Dusan Korlikov, Xorge Le Meji, Santutxo Kramer, Reto Zschokke

Sajnur National Football Team: World Cup 102 Qualifying

Stadiums

National Stadium

The National Stadium is the largest stadium in Sajnur, with a capacity of 102,000 people. Located in the capital city of Javoser, home to more than 12.5 million people, it is the primary arena for big sporting events in the country, hosting a semi-final and most finals of Sajnur’s FA Cup, and several finals of the Tarvolan League, tarvolan being a code of football indigenous to Sajnur and traditionally Sajnur’s biggest sport. It has also hosted the biggest of Sajnur’s concerts and the inaugurations of two Presidents.

Built in 1952 and renovated in 2015, the stadium has a retractable roof, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and affordable food and drink options to provide a comfortable experience for all fans while the stadium has been designed to allow fans to produce a raucous atmosphere befitting of large sporting events. The stadium is easily accessible by public transport, and has thousands of parking spaces for those who choose to arrive in their own vehicles.

Niurka Stadium

Home of FK Khadur, arguably Sajnur’s biggest football club, Niurka Stadium is located in the Khadur area of Ciarkhan, a bustling metropolis of 4.6 million people that serves as Laghia’s state capital. Laghia was a territory acquired by Sajnur in a war stretching from 1982 to 1996, and it is the Laghian people that popularised football in Sajnur. As a result, the province has eight of Sajnur’s 32 professional football clubs despite having only 1/8 of the country’s population, and Niurka Stadium hosts the other semi-final and some finals of Sajnur’s FA Cup.

The stadium, built in 2006, was named after Nicolae Niurka, who was a Laghian partisan that served as a general against Laghia’s pre-1982 rulers and was killed in combat in 1995, aged just 46. With a capacity of 73,000, it is the largest stadium used by a team in the Sajnuran Premier League. Like the National Stadium, it has a retractable roof, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and plenty of affordable food and drink options, with many food options being traditional to Laghia. The stadium is easily accessible by public transport, but parking space may be limited on particularly busy days.

Queen Haqla Stadium

Queen Haqla Stadium is a 60,000 seat stadium near the centre of Roskjepa, the capital of Delta state and, with 6.7 million people, the second largest in Sajnur. Home to Rivers FC, the stadium is a regular venue for intimidating displays from Rivers fans, with flares, aggressive chanting, and large banners being a common sight, especially in derbies between Rivers and cross-town rivals Stormers FC.

The stadium was built in 1960 and renovated in 2016, and has all the amenities of the National and Niurka stadiums, while being a prominent sight on the Jagaroi River. As such, along with bus and train, the stadium is also accessible by the Jagaroi River’s ferry. However, like in Ciarkhan, access by car may be difficult. Queen Haqla, for whom the stadium is named, reigned over Sajnur from 681 to her death in 727.

Siyaka Island Stadium

Siyaka Island Stadium is the largest stadium in the Asulian states, with 66,000 people able to fit within its confines. Located in the outskirts of Tawqush, a city of about 5.4 million serving as the capital of Archipelago state, the stadium is the home of FC Mazigh, the foremost football club in the Asulian states. Fans on Siyaka Island often bring instruments to matches, ranging from the arghul to large drums to even accordions, posing both as support to those they like and a distraction for those who they wish to lose.

The stadium is the newest of the four national stadiums, being built in 2017 on what was the Mujar port before it was bombed by the Sajnuran navy during a war that stretched from 1990-2003. The stadium is easily accessible by both car and public transport, and with the New Mujar port being built as part of the stadium development, coastal and island hopping ferries can also stop right outside the stadium.

Stadiums:
Parc De Nasional (55000): The restored pinnacle of the county Parc De Nasional is looking to be expanded soon. Surrounding the stadium is the bustling Striga district which has been in a boom period for a while. Many people watch the festivities from their roofs. It is also called the "Lantern District" due to the abnormal amount of lanters displayed throughout the district.

Parc d'Auprus (45000): Home to a rejuvenated Auprussia NF located in the Cenviesse district of Auprus by a marine research facility it was one of the few stadiums not affected by the financial money pit that was Lige PRO. Fans come by boat to observe the marine life nearby the research facility or they come by train which drops them off right in front of the stadium.

Coeur de Sassen Alexia (60000): Another stadium owned by a Lige 1 club, the newly promoted but very old powerhouse Alexia. Founded in the Alexia-Roswulfe district it has a "unique" contingent of fans who travel by horse like the old Sassen merchants used to do. The newer Sassen merchants just prefer to move their goods by trucks or trains and sell them in the biggest market in Auprussia. It has also become sort of a home for some aspiring metal bands from throughout the country.

Hills of Light and Dark (48000): In the shadows of the huge forests of Adrana, this venue used by Prus Sassenlan has a great amount of history. Old castle ruins and outposts riddle the outer edges of the forest while the stadium itself lies in the center. The roads are narrow and are walkways, not the highways and auto roads littered across Auprussia. Near the field is an old cathedral built by the Sassen kings long ago.

Parc di Bervica Sentrau (49000): Surrounded by the urban buildings of Folcanice, this old stadium has been home to many great Birivistice teams over the years it is the centerpiece of the Folcanice district in which many people from all walks of life come to work. There's even an old brick monument to commemorate the building of the stadium in support of the construction workers who founded the club.

Starting Lineup - 3-4-3 Formation

Team Management
Manager: Paul Ravn - 58
Assistant Manager & Director of Youth Development: Anders Lyngstad - 47
Offensive Coach: Pearly Nixon Image - 38
Defensive & Goalkeeper Coach: Klaus Schultheiss - 40
Set Pieces Coach: Charlotte Erlandsan - 52

Starters:
GK: #1 Frederik Voll - 33 - Vennesberg United
As the undisputed best Solgavish goalkeeper, Voll's role as the starting goalkeeper is unsurprising. "Voll the Wall" already has multiple trophies, including a growing collection of Rüdiger Awards (best goalkeeper), a Kistner Memorial Trophy (league MVP), and a Kongensliga Title. Compared to his predecessor, Voll is a lot more quiet and reserved, focusing solely on bettering his craft and doing what he can to elevate his team.

CB: #2 Sune Martinsan - 26 - Bul Khungur Miners FC Image
After a few years of being removed from the National Team pool, Martinsan's incredible play in the Tikariot Premier League made him impossible to ignore. Martinsan's skills as a passer will be utilized through him playing in a wide role, helping to turn defense into offense, and give the defensive line width.

CB: #4 Stephan Kalb - 31 - Rega Lysborg
Stephan Kalb has been the composed leader of Rega Lysborg's defense for the past few years, earning a Kongensliga title and KH4 Cup along the way. Now in his thirties, Kalb is finally starting to reach his potential, being recognized as one of the Kongensliga's best defenders, and a starter for the National Team. Kalb is expected to serve as the anchor of Solgavden's backline, a big body who can both block shots and keep up with strikers looking to cut inside.

CB: #3 Kennet Roenfeldt - 31 - Vennesberg United
Roenfeldt started his journey as a kid at Vennesberg United’s academy, which is known to produce excellent defensive talent. Now Roenfeldt is undoubtedly Solgavden's best defender, winning the award for best Kongensliga defensive player three (3!!) years in a row. He is known for his speed, and his explosive ability to clear the ball and make plays. He also has a knack for scoring on long range shots, making him an unexpected threat on offense. Roenfeldt is now playing in a role that makes him closer to a fullback, using his athletic ability to cover a large area of the pitch along the sideline.

LM: #7 Rohit Mishra - 28 - Rega Lysborg
Known for his speed and dribbling ability, Mishra is a difficult player to tackle, often leaving defenders in the dust. A second generation immigrant himself, Mishra pushes himself daily to make his family back home and the nation he represents proud. Mishra has been a star for the national team during the recent World Cup cycles, proving himself to be a consistent goalscorer and one of the team's top offensive threats.

CM: #6 Kay Dahlberg - 22 - Trondhelle Stags
Dahlberg has been a rising star in Solgavish football for the past few years, and is now recognized as one of the best midfielders in the Kongensliga. Dahlberg was a staple of past Solgavish youth teams, and now looks to break out for the senior National Team, with this tournament being his first chance to prove himself as a starter. What makes Dahlberg so deadly is his mix of speed, agility, and finesse on the ball, which should make him the perfect attacking midfielder to throw himself into the box when the team has possession.

CM: #8 Soren Danielsan - 34 - Walsbruck FK
Danielsan is a very accurate passer, with the skill to give a striker a perfectly placed ball on a long cross, or a short pass in an extremely tight window. As such, Danielsan is regarded as one of the best midfielders in Kongensliga history, someone who has consistently performed incredibly for over a decade now. Danielsan is also the first openly gay player in the Kongensliga, and was promptly celebrated by the nation. This, mixed with his kind and humble nature, has made him one of the most popular players in the country. He is also a loyal vice-captain and team-first player, often donning an armband himself when Halvorsan isn't playing, or during pride-themed games.

RM: #15 Aki Hagen - 32 - Inter Somorrosta Image
Hagen is a fan favorite due to his level headed style of play, never letting even the most high pressure situations shake his nerves. He is especially effective at set-pieces, often bringing his team victory when the lights shine brightest. Hagen is a favorite of Chancellor Nicklas Sondergaard, who occasionally wears his jersey in parliament after a big victory.

LS: #17 Luca Bettencourt - 27 - De Vursen FK
Bettencourt is a true newcomer to the National Team, having never been called up at any point before this. But two back-to-back titles with him as the one of the best strikers in the league made Bettencourt's inclusion into the World Cup squad guaranteed. Bettencourt has a similar style of play to Halvorsan, who he sat behind for years as a youth prospect. Bettencourt has a cannon of a shot, and works best when paired with another striker on the opposite side of the pitch. This time, that partner will be his old De Vursen mentor, and many are hopeful to see the duo wreak havoc on opposing defenses once again.

CF: #11 Kristian Tennefjord - 26 - Relv Sisse
Tennefjord is a new young experienced and seasoned star in the Kongensliga, being the best player on Relv Sisse’s potent offense. A constant threat to opposing defenses, Tennefjord is both quick and accurate on his shots, which proves to be a deadly combination. Tennefjord was one of the Solgavden's most reliable goal scorers during their first few international tournaments, and he hopes to continue that form in this World Cup cycle.

RS: #9 Sigmund "Sig" Halvorsan [C] - 41 - Helager FK
The face of Solgavish sports for now over two decades, Halvorsan is arguably the greatest footballer in Solgavish history, although some still make the case that Harald Kistner is the best. Halvorsan has won everything on the domestic side of the sport, including winning multiple Kongensliga titles and KH4 Cups with De Vursen. Now he strives to succeed internationally, and to bring success to Solgavden. Standing at an imposing 6' 4", Halvorsan is a physical player with a powerful shot that is difficult to stop. Yes, Halvorsan is 41, but he hasn't slowed down yet, beating out multiple strikers more than a decade younger than him for the starting job. Halvorsan seems to age like a fine wine, as he's still a threat of offense, recently being a top five scoring in the SFL First Division, helping his boyhood earn promotion back to the top flight.

The Aleirave Football Association
Baptism of Fire LXXVIII Champions
Roster for CAFA Cup XIV
Image

OOC: All players in blue are ethnically Klysevian, all players in red are native Aleiravan.

The island nation of Aleirave is a rather small one, with a population of barely 50 thousand, located by a sea they know as the Retakono Me'a, or the sea of mystery. The only islands that were anywhere near them seemed to sink under the sea a couple years back, leaving them as the most isolated nation in the region of Anaia.

The nation of Aleirave was originally founded by Fyodor Tereyev, who was a puteshestvennik (or "traveller") from Klysevia, about 350 years ago. His descendants ruled the island up until the year 2023, when Alexandr Tereyev was shot and killed by a lone gunman in a peaceful protest. Since then, the island has been ruled as an Special Administrative Unit of Eshialand, effectively acting as its own democratic nation within a nation.

An era was over. With Aleirave’s third consecutive CAFA group stage exit, it was curtains on Haulafo Paka’ula’s managing career. As much of a rock as he had been for the team over his 12.5 cycle tenure, he recognized that he wasn’t going to be the driving force that would bring this team to any further success. In his stead was left Falena Rukipiato, who certainly wasn’t expecting to be the manager this soon, and a team coming to grips with the fact that, no matter how well they seem to do in World Cups, the CAFA “success” of yesteryear — if we can even call a couple of fourth place finishes “success” — wasn’t anywhere close to within reach.

The good news is that it’s World Cup season again, and the Seagulls’ group had a lot of fun matches to look forward to. First on the docket was a rematch against Bhumi Matawis Empire, a team they’d already faced 3 times in the White Tiger Team’s short two-cycle existence thus far. Their record was sitting at 1-1-1 up until now, their most recent match being a 1-1 draw in WC101’s group stage.

There were a lot of questions about how this team would perform without Haulafo’s management. The only one that Falena had to answer was whether she was ready for this.

First international: Audioslavia 4-0 Aleirave (CAFA II)
First win: Aleirave 6-3 Space Laser Dinosaur Robot Pirate Land (CAFA III)

Worst loss: Squornshelan Remnant States 7-1 Aleirave (WC XCIX)
Most goals against: Eraman 8-5 Aleirave* (WCQ XCI)
Highest-scoring match: Eraman 8-5 Aleirave* (WCQ XCI)

*This result also represents a scorigami, a score that had never occurred in the previous 90 cycles of World Cup competition.

The Old Grounds, Lahaira (capacity: 100).
The Old Grounds are the original home pitch of the Seagulls team, and one that's hosted impromptu football matches for the people of the island ever since time immemorial. Recently a few seats have been installed to help make things more comfortable for attendees, but the original feel of this field remains the same as always: a quaint reminder of island life.

Image

Manager: Falena RUKIPIATO (F, 38)
No Haulafo means no guiding star for Falena to follow when it comes to her managing style. She had a little bit of time to learn from the best on the island, but from here on out it was sink or swim, and she already felt like she was drowning.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers: Yes
Allow Bizarro scoring events: No
RP injuries to my players: Yes
Allow Bizarro injuries to my players: No
Hand out yellow cards to my players: Yes
Hand out red cards to my players: Yes
Allow any other Bizarro events: Maybe
If you do RP the match details in full please make my substitutions make vague sense!!

Important note on games played in Kordavia:

I have granted pretty free permissions in terms of on field action. In terms of off field action, however, please bear in mind that Kordavia is a very closed regime under authoritarian rule (though the regime would recognise neither claim!). You can get a sense of what visiting Kordavia might be like here. If you roleplay a visit to our country, it should reflect:

  • limited seat allocations, with all visitors pre-approved to avoid risks to safety, security, and ethnic harmony; media strictly controlled; subject to surveillance throughout;
  • but, the regime is not going to start arbitrarily imprisoning or murdering foreign visitors (the stains are a bugger to get out of the carpets, for one thing)
If you want to RP something more substantial, please contact me first! I'm happy to arrange an RP but I'll ignore any claims of fomenting revolution etc. unless they're funny.

NS stats not canon.

People move away, grow older, die, and the bright belief that there will be another marvellous thing around each corner fades. It is now or never, we must snatch at happiness as it flies. J.L. Carr, A Month in the Country

Reçueçn Roster & National Information

National Team Information

The Équipe Nationale de Reçueçn de Football is waiting for its chance in the World Cup...

After winning the IAC a cycle and a half ago, Les Licornes had high hopes that the championship heralded an era of Reçuecian dominance. There have been many personnel changes—LeBouffe out as Manager, Büchel in; Lapix out as captain, Firaut returning from injury—and the revolving door of players and coaches has been the excuse offered every time someone asks why the ÉNRF doesn't seem to be meeting expectations. But that IAC victory was almost three years ago now, and it's getting to the point where the excuses aren't cutting it. In the final year of Büchel's contract, can he use Thériault and the young Firaut to make some magic? Or will Les Licornes' fans be kept waiting another generation?

~~~
If L'Équipe Nationale de Reçueçn de Football is known for anything, it would be its defensive style. Historically this was due to the large influence of Reçueçn FC on the team; the most popular domestic club in Reçueçn plays as defensive a game as you can imagine. After a players' strike a few cycles ago, the team is now co-ed and has its first female players. At this point it has become the new normal: the weird part is just playing without the recent crop of retirees and team leaders.
Image
National Team Crest
The team plays in a 4-3-3 formation, but typically the wings drop back, almost making it a 4-5-1. In general, the team's strategy and tactics are solid. However, Thomas Büchel, the new manager, has yet to really leave his mark on the squad, and has been slow to roll out tactical ideas of his own.
The Reçueçian National Team's mascot is the unicorn; thus another name for the team is "les licornes". The fantastical creature has been a symbol of Reçueçn for almost two millennia and is also the national animal, appearing as the supporters in the national coat of arms.
Stadium
Reçueçn has only one stadium in which its national team plays, located in the capital city (also named Reçueçn). Never having been given an official title, the national stadium is usually simply referred to as just that: le Stade National. (Reçuecian law requires journalists in the nation to use endonyms even when reporting in English or other non-local languages.) Capacity: 30,000.
Coaching Staff
Thomas Büchel
50 Years old
Büchel used to play right-midfielder for Reçueçn FC and was one of the substitutes on the ÉNRF back during Reçueçn's first attempt at World Cup qualification. He was given an incredibly brief stint as Interim Manager for Les Licornes thirteen years later, but Hyron LeBouffe eventually got the job; now LeBouffe is out and Büchel is back. Like most Reçuecian coaches, Büchel is great at delaying games, slowing down the tempo of a match, and working with a low block. Neutral fans are unlikely to find his team's matches highly entertaining: under him Reçueçn maintains its focus on possession and passing. Reçuecian fans are still formulating an opinion after his mixed record since the World Cup.
All-time record: 244-99-132
The team will be playing in their new kit produced by Saternalian firm Novos for the occasion of the 100th World Cup.
Starting XI
1  Moesha Ziswiler            goalkeeper             F | age 26
Fast and physical. Happy to rush forward to block off a shot.
2 Brigitte Breault left back F | age 29
Solid and self-certain. As one of the first to break the Reçuecian gender barrier, she is always working harder than the men.
3 Adrien Allard center back M | age 24
Willing to try new things and think outside the box, often with zany results.
4 Noémie Travers center back F | age 25
Noémie is very mature and is always looking for ways to make her teammates look good. Doesn't steal the limelight but is great support.
5 Erica Konig right back F | age 30
Tall, skinny, and prone to injury due to how often she collides in mid-air after going up to defend a corner kick.
6 Emila Streuli left midfielder F | age 27
Quick and hard to pin down. Cooperates well with the center midfielders.
7 Maximilian Aebi defensive midfielder M | age 26
Fast and has great tackles, but sometimes slow to push up when an attack is necessary.
8 Théophile Thériault right midfielder M | age 28
He was once the future of Reçuecian soccer—now he is its present. Team captain. Rébecca may be stealing his celeb status but his stardom hasn't waned yet.
9 Héloïse Asselineau left wing F | age 26
Asselineau has come a long way learning to play forward. Her chemistry with Rébecca is what takes her to the next level.
10 Rébecca Firaut center forward F | age 22
Has inherited her father's star power. After leading nation-wide protests, Rébecca earned herself a leader's respect while still a young teenager.
11 Ravenna Cocci right wing F | age 27
Short but with a remarkable speed and cadence. Positionality so good it's like she's reading the midfielders' minds.
Reserves
23 Colombo Manna               goalkeeper            M | age 28
Easy-going, friendly, very popular with his team, probably won't see play-time.
13 Blaise Gauthier sweeper M | age 27
Delicate and surgical. Prefers a well-executed tackle to a heavy block.
14 Nathalie Desjardins left back F | age 28
Has endurance for days. Runs marathons in her spare time.
15 Corinne Adam center back F | age 23
Another tall Reçuecian defender. Will win every header—but likely to draw a yellow along the way.
16 Harman Kopp right back M | age 22
Still young, but knows how to put himself in the way in exactly the right way. Great stopper. Kinda slow.
17 Sascha Schreiber left midfielder F | age 24
Good vision and passes. Very accurate on passing, often caught wrong-footed when dribbling.
18 Clélia Jaccoud center midfielder F | age 30
A good multi-tasker. Is always paying attention to everything to never be caught out of position.
19 Loïse Jaccard right midfielder F | age 24
Loud personality. Demands her own freedom of expression, in both life and soccer.
20 Dirk Trommler left wing M | age 30
A high defense's worst nightmare. Has a knack for finding a way through with the ball, whether forward balls or to shoot himself.
21 Lauretta Giordano center forward M | age 27
Great dribbler, good on her feet. Forgets to look around her sometimes and hangs onto the ball too long.
22 Urs Kron right wing M | age 26
Seems to only start making decisions after receiving a pass. Usually means he's just a bit to slow to get his plan off.
23 Rémy Mertaz goalkeeper M | age 28
Penalty specialist. High energy, always yelling something at his teammates while they're on the pitch.
Reçuecian History and Culture
The nation of Reçueçn was created in the first half of the XIVth century, when Carl Blancpic, Duke of the Duchy of Reçueçn, launched a breakneck military campaign invading and annexing many of his neighbors to the east. Before this time, Reçueçn had been only a city, built on the heights overlooking the junction of the Rhône and Saône rivers. These heights had been settled by Carl Blancpic's distant ancestor, Ifheda Rcuecn, near the end of the IInd century a.d., and had born his name ever since. The area at that time belonged to the Roman Empire, who had established their regional administrative center, Lugdunum, on the other side of the river.
In 197 a.d., a decisive battle was fought near Lugdunum in one of the civil wars for the throne of the empire. The victor, Septimius Severus, razed the city of Lugdunum and destroyed it, stripping from it all imperial privileges in punishment for supporting his rival. This was the end for Lugdunum, but it was the beginning for Reçueçn. Refugees flocked across the river to join the settlement, and the city of Reçueçn grew to become a smallish regional center. Rcuecn's descendants (who changed the spelling to Reçueçn) maintained control over what became the Duchy of Reçueçn for 700 years, until it was inherited by their cousins the Blancpics who reigned for another 300 years.
At the beginning of the XIVth century, power passed into the hands of Carl Blancpic, who was a megalomaniac and partially insane . Thus he declared his duchy to be a kingdom and singled out weak neighbors who he invaded with audacity. Over an incredibly short period of time beginning in the spring of 1337, he had carved out for himself a sizable dominion.
Carl, who styled himself "Carl III of Reçueçn", was violent, unstable, and petty. He was also wildly unpopular with the populations of the various states he had conquered. Although the central power structure helped the economy of the new Kingdom of Reçueçn to some extent, it did not bring with it all the stability that might have been expected. This was mostly due to the decrees of Carl III, who, among other things, began a campaign to persecute and kill all "heretics" within his new realm. Most historians agree that this was in fact a thinly veiled purge of his political rivals. This and other policies he enacted on his whims finally drove the people into open revolt in the spring of 1352.
Carl managed to hold on to power for a couple years by hiring mercenaries, but in 1354 lost two key battles and was captured by the rebels. By this time, the rebellion was led by feudal lords throughout the country who had sided with the people against their tyrant king. Carl III was executed, and the kingdom dissolved into a mess of tiny, independent feudal holdings.
No sooner had the various states that had been in the Kingdom of Reçueçn won their independence, than infighting broke out among them. The feudal lords squabbled over power and influence, trying vainly to imitate Carl's meteoric rise to power. This new violence, combined with the economic downturn associated with the rebellion and the breakup of the nation, clearly displayed how poorly things were turning out. More sensible minds came to the decision that the solution was to once more unify Reçueçn.
On November 19, 1356, therefore, The Allied States of Reçueçn came into being. The leaders of all the petty states, duchies, bishoprics, free cities, etc., came together and signed what are known as "The Treaties of the Alliance," a document just powerful enough to make Reçueçn a single nation, rather than a group of independent entities. The treaties also established a rough form of democracy, with each state represented (although typically by its aristocracy). Thus Reçueçn lays claim to being one of the oldest democracies in the world.
The treaties defined much of Reçuecian history to come. Provisions were made to establish freedom of religion, in order to avoid another scenario similar to Carl III's persecution of his opponents. The treaties also gave Reçueçn an isolationist bent. The nation had been burned before, and wouldn't soon try to meddle in external affairs, especially when its composite nature made creating a foreign policy so difficult.
Reçueçn, then, has managed to avoid many of the crises of European history. It's darkest moment came when Napoleon invaded, proclaiming himself emperor (although he allowed Reçueçn's government to continue to function under his reign). The allied states have drawn closer together, although cultural differences remain among them; they don't even all speak the same language.
Reçueçian culture has also been shaped by its location, nestled in the center of the Alps. The difficulty of travel among mountain valleys ensured the cultural diversity of the nation and preserved local customs. Although rural communities did center around agriculture—especially dairy production—many Reçuecian were forced by the lack of arable land to find other work. This led to a culture of innovation that continues today: Reçueçn is now known for its luxury products and technological exports. This has additionally led to a focus on science and education. The relatively diverse nature of Reçueçn's culture means that some areas are culturally more time-oriented while others are more task-oriented, but this fusion has given the country a uniqueness, especially in art. Reçueçn, perhaps thanks to its inland, mountainous location, or the fact that it was never a colonial power, has seen little immigration or emigration. Recently, however, the diversity of language spoken in the country has made it attractive to refugees from other areas where those languages are spoken.
Visiting Reçueçn
Reçueçn is a small nation, but it's got a lot to see. If you're visiting for World Cup qualification, you may want to extend your stay to see the sights.
Travelling to and in Reçueçn
Most travelers to Reçueçn will fly into Reçueçn City. As the capital and largest city, it will definitely have the flight connection you need. Genève, the nation's second city, will also accommodate you in this regard, but all the games will be happening in Reçueçn. If you are travelling from a nearby country, arriving by rail is also a possibility, and many more Reçuecian cities have international rail connections than have international airports.
For travel within the country, taking the train is probably the way to go. Car rentals are fairly expensive, and many cities restrict downtown access to pedestrians and public transport. When travelling through the countryside, you will find that autoroutes have high tolls, and smaller roads are typically wind annoyingly through steep mountain terrain. However, there is an extensive rail and tunnel network, and taking the train is fairly cheap between most places in the nation. Bus routes also connect most larger towns. Within cities themselves, public transport is always very high quality and usually very affordable or in some cities, even free. A few bus lines are temporarily free to travel during the tournament, in a government-led effort to promote tourism and encourage visitors to explore the country beyond just the soccer matches.
What to See
Presumably if you're reading this, the main attraction that has brought you to Reçueçn is World Cup qualification. All the games will be played just a short bus ride away from Reçueçn International Airport at the Stade National in Reçueçn's inner suburbs. But if you want to see a bit more of the nation, consider taking a ride up to a cute alpine village and hiking along a mountain ridge to appreciate the amazing views we have to offer. Or take a swim in a mountain lake and cool off in the shadow of the peaks. If you really are looking to ditch the heat, check out the ice tunnels at the Écho glaciers. Or, if you come during the winter, you can hit the slopes—our skiing's the best in the world.
If the mountains aren't for you, consider visiting our world-famous cheese museum - free samples! Or visit the Genève Cathedral if the culture you're looking for isn't bacterial. Genève, Reçueçn, Zimmerich and other cities each have a beautiful downtown historic district worth the walking tour. Check them out if your idea of a good time means wandering through medieval fortifications or strolling down cobbled alleys. If what's up your alley is shopping, then we've got that too - check out Genève's luxury district for high end jewelry, fashion, watches, and more. Exchanging your money should be no problem: the Reçuecian guilder is very stable and worth a little more than the NSD.
Where to Stay, What to Eat
If you are on the search for the perfect hotel for your stay in Reçueçn, worry not. Plenty of all kinds abound in and around each major city, whether you're looking for the five star experience, or just want to save a buck. If you'd rather have the personal, local touch, then we've still got you covered: a quick look online will reveal plenty of family-owned bed & breakfasts, as well as short-term rentals with people trying to make some money off the empty spare room a few nights at a time. Hostels are also very popular in Reçueçn, and are a great way to stay near the city center for a very low cost.
What'll you have for dinner? Reçueçn's food is what will make you want to come back for another visit. We love our cheeses, and our national specialty is raclette, melted cheese scraped over small potatoes, cornichons, and saucisson. Try it at a restaurant where each table is provided with its own small grill so each diner can melt their own. Another local specialty is tartiflette: a casserole of potatoes, onions, and lardon (thick-cut bacon) served with a slab of, you guessed it, more melted cheese cooked right over it.
If rather than in a seat at a fine dining establishment, you find yourself in an alpine pasture hankering for a pique-nique, don't worry. Cheese is great for a basket-lunch too. Bring along a baguette and a saucisson, and you've got yourself a meal.
No meal in Reçueçn is complete without a glass of wine, and the local product is certainly worth the connoisseur's time. Reçuecian wine varies immensely depending on whether you're north, south, or west of the Alps, so try a few varieties and pick your favorite. If you need a pairing for your meal, it just so happens that every single Reçuecian you meet on the street is a self-proclaimed expert ready with helpful advice. Just don't stop them on their way home for dinner.
Do's and Don't's
Do say "Bonjour" to those you pass in a small town. Don't block the escalator in the metro. Do take your time to enjoy a meal or a conversation in western Reçueçn. Don't be late in eastern Reçueçn. Do greet people with a kiss on each cheek. Don't actually let your lips touch them. Do cheer loudly for your team! Don't go too crazy with the victory party. Do take a selfie with your head on the block at execution square in downtown Reçueçn. Don't miss out on your visit because you're on your phone the whole time. Do rent a bike and pedal around to see the sights. Don't be unprepared to parallel park if you've rented a car. Do make eye contact during a conversation. Don't stare at people. Do be ready to share gossip with perfect strangers. Don't expect people to open up to you right away. Do keep your hands above the table at dinner. Don't yawn during a conversation. Do offer to help your host with cleaning up. Don't ask for seconds until offered. Do speak your mind and be straightforward. Don't bank on too much personal space.
Do have the time of your life.
THE KYTLERIAN NATIONAL SOCCER TEAM for WORLD CUP 102
Manager: Eddie GENGOULT
Assistant manager: Aaron WILSON-COOPER
Clubs are KYP unless stated.
Players with an asterisk* are considered the more aggressive on this team. They are more likely to pick up yellow cards, and are the only players who should pick up red cards.
1 Peter DE BEUKELAER GK, Aardswood United
A former U21 international who has been a central part of his club's startling rise to the top of the Kytlerian NSL - and the IFCF knockout stages - for some time now. Solid in all aspects of goalkeeping, a previous streak of youthful inconsistency is now mostly behind him.
2 ZORNO-ZORNO Bux LB/CB, Florley Garden City
The last few years have seen a relative struggle for some Kytlerian young prospects to break into the senior setup, but this Qusma-Kytlerian has defied that. Their name might sound like a particularly dubious cryptocurrency, but with their strong defensive instincts they're a key part of the Gardeners' - and now the Kytlerians' - block chain.
3 Oliver VANDOME RB/CB, Bay City United
After being left out of the Copa Rushmori squad - in theory for "load management" and in practice because playing in the TPL made him an obvious backlash target - Vandome moved to the Blues and instantly helped guide them to the NSL's best defensive record. Played on the right at Carathyr Emeralds, where he developed an unexpected creative streak, but has historically played centrally for the NT.
4 Liz OKNEY CB, AFC Carroll Lewiston
Long hyped internally as a potential saviour to the Magicians' long-held defensive frailty, she has fulfilled those expectations in recent seasons and been central to the team's emergence as a perennial NSL title contender. Comfortable in possession and not a liability with either foot, she's typically deployed on the left of a centre-back pairing.
5 Davíð SVENSSON CB/RB, Foothillers
The local hero from Glacier View provides like-for-like cover for Vandome and in fact inherited the #3 shirt in his absence from the last Copa Rushmori. Like Vandome, he can play centrally or on the right just as easily, and splits the difference at his club by playing on the right of the central defensive trio in the Climbers' 5-2-3/3-4-3; probably more likely to play centrally for the NT, but with at least one eye on his ability to cover for an attacking full-back.
6 Zachary EDWARDS-HILLIER* CDM/CM, Galatica (PAS)
At the heart of this team's rebuilt midfield thanks to being one of the foreign-based players who weren't on Flight 134, Edwards-Hillier is an enforcer who will chase after anyone and anything to get the ball and then distributes it nicely once he does. Arguably the team's player of the tournament in World Cup 100.
7 VICENTE Bautista Oleandro CM/CAM/LM, Miposojeon (QUE)
Has been the face of this national team since it was refounded. Usually lives in the left half-space, where he's a threat to curl the ball directly goalwards with his right foot or into the danger zone with either. A Q-League champion with Miposojeon, he's still the leading source of inspiration when this team needs one.
8 Stijn BEVERWIJK CM/CAM, Florley Garden City
A true number 8 wearing the right number, his combination of first name and ability to read the game has given him joking comparisons to Kytlerian chess star Stijn van Dijk. The latter has been part of a dynasty with three Elephant Chess Cup wins and six top-three finishes, both records; Beverwijk has also made a little history, scoring in the Kytlerians' first World Cup quarterfinal.
9 Charles PACKARD ST/CF, Aardswood United
Scored 20 in a 30-game season in Siovanija & Teusland... on a team that got relegated because they conceded 99. In 30 games. Duly returned home with his stock freshly raised and his place as the Kytlerian number 9 affirmed, and then proceeded to be a central piece of the Aardswood dynasty. A tall, physical striker with well-rounded skills, he's not getting displaced any time soon.
10 HJÖRDIS Sigurdsdóttir CF/ST/CAM, Aardswood United
Speaking of which, here's the fun-sized forward who has operated as Aardswood's "false 10" to devastating effect since being signed by Thomas Hooker shortly before getting the call to manage the post-Flight 134 NT. Always a difficult player to track with her elusive movement in the final third, and not just because of how tall she isn't; with the formation shift to 4-2-3-1, whether she starts or not is now also difficult to see.
11 Joanne WALGRAVE LW/ST, Bay City United
First Kytlerian scorer at a WC proper in a memorable finish against Aphrilia in WC97, scoring in added time of added time after an Aphrilia goal was chalked off on video review to catalyse a breakthrough run to the octos. She's now making her own comeback with the NT after having been shunned for WC100 before top-scoring for the Blues in the last two domestic seasons.
12 Ed COOPER-MEANEY GK, FC Alaer
When Alaer lost their goalie to injury two weeks into the season a couple of years ago, things looked like they'd go wrong. Then their teenage backup broke out way ahead of schedule, the A won the league, and he hasn't lost the job since. A man - just - who has grown into his unexpected leadership role and is now rather vocal, as well as a commanding presence in the box. Could be the NT starter sooner rather than later too.
13 Felix JANSEN* CDM/CM, FC Alaer
Had been a little "out of sight, out of mind" after moving to Vanorian club Atlético Bexar, but the former Aardswood player is back in the NSL at Alaer, who in turn have become really good again, and he might even now be favourite to start despite the managerial change (which in any case is just to the next Aardswood manager).
14 Charles GRANGE-HUGHES CDM/CM, Urrheddiao (CMT)
Squeezed out of the picture at Aardswood United, Grange-Hughes went to Chromatika and absolutely broke the hell out. To the point of him now being linked to the very biggest clubs in the Red League, and by extension the multiverse. A deep-lying ball-winner who can pick his moments further upfield, he has effectively forced the NT to do what the Aardvarks didn't and change their 4-1-4-1 to make room for him.
15 Alex ELLINGTON RW/RM, AFC Carroll Lewiston
A late-blooming talent perhaps held back in the past by the emotional vortex of gender dysphoria, they have taken a big leap in recent seasons to become a central part of a stunning Magicians ascent, then a regular in the post-Flight 134 NT, and now forever to be remembered as the first scorer in a triple-digit World Cup. Has vivid pink hair but this somehow doesn't stop them escaping defensive attention.
16 Stephen HUNTER CB/CDM, Roddens City
The twin brother of Flight 134 victim Brad. Feeling the urge to build on his lost brother's legacy, he has settled in as a core piece of the national team squad as a versatile option who can be deployed as a ball-playing defender or a holding midfielder.
17 Eddie BLAKE* CB, Baltonbrook
One of the young homegrown talents who have propelled a modest commuter-town club to the unprecedented heights of a SO-KP Cup and consecutive top-half NSL finishes, Blake is a composed defender who doesn't do anything fancy; he just wants to win the ball and then let someone else do things with it.
18 Astrid NOBLE CM/CAM, FC Alaer
Breakout midfielder for FC Alaer, filling the void left by the fading career of StrayaRoos standout Ella Vidya seamlessly. Couldn't be ignored for the NT after that.
19 Sean O'SULLIVAN* RB/RWB, FC Alaer
Attacking right-back who has looked a lot better defensively of late, becoming a key part of FC Alaer's impressive title-winning campaign last season. His best is yet to come and he could easily be not just a spark plug off the bench but an actual starter sooner rather than later.
20 Sophie LABISSIERE LWB/LB, Bay City United
A standout player at Calcio Carmina Burana, she left upon their relegation for the brighter lights of Carva Dock and helped them romp to the title in her first season there. Back in the NT mix after being left out for the Copa Rushmori, her biggest strength is an uncanny ability to draw fouls.
21 Avery OLDHAM* CB/LB, FC Alaer
A left-footed central defender who can play at left-back if needed, Oldham is a versatile and technically sound player who has become a key part of the Alaer ascent in the last couple of seasons.
22 Sarashe WILOPTEERE CAM/RW/ST, Capitolians
Her career highlight will probably always and forever be the time she came off the bench to score a hat-trick in the Olympic Derby as a teenager. Four seasons have passed since that moment, and the Caps have sucked for most of them, but they were actually decent last season and the fluidity Wilopteere provided in the final third was a big part of why. Typically used as a 10 for the Caps, but her path to NT minutes looks to be on the right or as a false nine.
23 Taratchy TOROSSUD GK, Bay City United
The Bay City academy product looked out of his depth filling in for the late Kuno Zeelen until the Blues' title-winning campaign a couple of years ago, when he extremely didn't. Physically commanding and good with his feet, consistency is still a question but his potential is starting to become more visibly manifest.
Potential starting XI (4-2-3-1): de Beukelaer; Vandome, Svensson, Okney, Zorno-Zorno; Grange-Hughes, Edwards-Hillier; Ellington, Beverwijk, Vicente; Packard.
