Welcome to the WorldVision Song Contest — based on the Eurovision Song Contest, WorldVision aims to provide and unite nations from different parts of the world through music.

The WorldVision Song Contest is an outlet where you can showcase the popular, native, alternative and various other genres of music of your nation. As with every contest, there are a few simple rules that you'll need to follow if you wish to participate. If you're new here and want to get to know how things go, read our FAQ/Guide To WorldVision! Or if you are simply looking for the rules, look no further than the rules here:

WorldVision Rulebook

For brief explanations on different aspects and workings of the contest, you can see them here below:

How It Works
  • Each nation will rank the other nations out of 10. Each number below 5 adds a scaled negative score whereas each number above 5 adds a scaled positive score (5 provides a neutral value, which is zero). The complete score of each nation will be the total sum of the positive and negative scores. At this point, any nation with a negative score or 0 will be considered to have 0 televote points (only the bottom few nations might receive this). The rest of the nations with a positive score will have this score then multiplied until the total scores are equal to the amount of points distributed through the points on the IC thread (this from now is the IC "Juries").
  • This multiplied number will then be the televote score for each nation.
  • The committee will assume responsibility for the recording and maintenance of the televote. This info will be given to the host when all nations have voted on the IC thread or when the deadline passes. This will prevent the vote from being influenced by the host, and to ensure the formula used is accurate.
  • The committee will also be responsible for publishing the complete voting result overview at the end of the voting, including the individual votes of nations, as well as the overall voting breakdown.
  • If the percentage of nations receiving 0 points in the televote exceeds 10% of the total competing nations that edition, the committee will reserve the right to change these percentages so that the percentage of nations receiving 0 points falls under 10% once again, as long as the nation's raw televote score is above -10. In this case, weightings changes will be done so that it does not affect any position in the top 3.
  • The host will be free to announce these results however they see fit, with the committee's strong recommendation to reveal them in the style of either of lowest to highest in the televote, or according to current standings after the jury vote.
  • In the event of a tie, the jury vote takes precedence.

Televote Instructions
  • In addition to the standard 12, 10, 8-1 points that are posted to the IC thread (which remains the same) there will also be an additional requirement. Each contestant must also submit a response to a google form in which they will rate each song from 1-10 (out of a maximum of 10) - with 1 to a song which they liked the least and 10 to a song they liked the most (and everything in between).
  • There are no restrictions on televoting - You can allocate scores in the televote however you wish, and you do not need this to be the same metric by which you measure your "jury" scores. Some suggestions may be to split your scores according to the Music/Lyrics/RP etc., but this is purely optional. We will still check for invalid votes, for example every nation being ranked the same, or in a specific "pattern" between any nations continuously conspiring to exchange votes and otherwise, but this won't be an issue if one votes fairly.
  • You may only submit one set of televotes, even if you have a puppet. If you do submit a televote for your puppet it will be discarded.
  • If you do not submit a televote, you will receive a 25% deduction penalty on your original televote score (which will then be redistributed among the rest of the nations according to their televoting score). While you will not be disqualified from the contest, your point sum WILL be impacted, so it is heavily recommended to do the televote ranking.

Rest of the World vote:
  • For countries that are not participating in the contest, there is an opportunity to participate in the Rest of the World vote. Any nation that has previously participated in the contest or is a full IBA member can vote.
  • To vote in the RotW vote, it will be on the televote form the participating nations vote on.
  • The RotW is included within the summed televote score along with the rest of the participating nations.

As it was introduced prior to the start of the 79th edition of the contest, the same strike system for punishments will be in effect, where players breaking certain contest rules will receive strikes depending on the severity.

    • One Strike: No immediate consequences;
    • Two Strikes: One contest ban.
    • Three Strikes: Two contest ban.
  • Strikes expire after five editions from the time they were received; however, a strike expiring during a ban does not edit or shorten it.
  • Bans stack; that is, a nation reaching three strikes within one edition is immediately banned for the following three editions.
  • Bans erase strikes once they are completed.

Here are the following issues that can net you a strike:

    One strike:
    • Not providing jury votes in the contest (will also disqualify a contestant from competing overall in the edition)
    • Changing jury votes without informing the WorldVision Committee.
    • Posting halftime results as not the host or WVC & refusing to remove said halftime results (this also results in disqualification)
    • Posting an incomplete entry, with no lyrics, title and artist name.
    • Not declaring a new participating puppet, or when transferring ownership of a puppet.
    • Using AI to write lyrics or RP (which also comes with a 25% televote reduction). AI generated imagery, using AI to translate or using AI for creative inspiration are all completely fine.

    Two strikes:
    • Engaging in tactical voting.
    • Intentionally refusing to vote.
    • Attempting to evade a previous ban.
    • Entering more than one puppet in the contest.

The Handy Guide to WorldVision!

‣ I'm new here, how does this all work?
Welcome! Here at WorldVision, we write our own lyrics to existing songs, and then vote on them! Many of us write performances and background information on the performer as well. This contest is based heavily on the Eurovision Song Contest, so it helps a lot if you're familiar with it! One major difference from it is that the winner doesn't host the next contest- here we have people bid each edition to host the next contest.

‣ That sounds fun! How do I sign up?
Signing up is simple! You can fill out and post the application below, or simply state your interest in joining. If you do use the application, you don't need to fill everything in.

When signing up, please ensure that you post your sign ups independently if you are participating with a puppet nation, and declare to who the puppet belongs to! Do not confirm your puppets solely through your main nation.

Here is a simple and basic template you can fill out for starters, though you are not obligated to do this:
Code: Select all
Nation Name: Your nation's name goes here.
Participating Broadcaster: Your official broadcaster for WV goes here.
Song Title: The IC Song title goes here.
Artist(s)/Band Name(s): The name of your act goes here.

Tune: The real-life tune you're basing your song on goes here.

‣ How can I host a contest?
In order to host an edition of the song contest, you need to have fully participated at least once before, this is crucial to know how the contest runs and once you've completed your first participation, you may proceed to bid. While you wait, you can look at any of the former or currently proposed bids to learn what make up the elements required to present in order to bid to host the contest, bids may vary in the things they present, but submissions with a lot of presentable content and preparation made beforehand are your key to making a successful bid, so take your time to craft the perfect edition.

If you've signed up before host voting has begun, then you can vote for the host! The bid with the most votes will host the edition. Bids which have not won may be resubmitted again next edition.

You CAN NOT vote in a host election if you have submitted your own bid in the same edition.

‣ How do I write an entry?
Writing an entry is just a bit more work than Alexander Rybak makes it seem. Most of us use an existing song as a tune, which we usually link through YouTube, and rewrite the lyrics to the tune so that they are original — which means that we wrote them ourselves and did not copy the real lyrics (at least 80% should be your own, which is generally easy if you write your own from scratch), lyric translations do not count as original lyrics!

To do well, it's best to write a performance and choose a tune that hasn't been used before - don't be afraid to ask us if you're unsure! In addition, it's always good to look at past contests and learn from the winners and highest placed entries.

If you do post a reservation/placeholder post for your entry, please make sure that you finish it with a completed set of lyrics, along with the name(s) of the performers and the song title. If you don't finish your entry, or you don't declare your withdrawal on the OOC thread beforehand, you may receive a strike, which is explained in the spoiler above this section.

‣ The deadline passed, and there's a mistake in my entry! Can I fix it?
Don't panic! First, check if the review period is still ongoing. The review period is the 12-hour period after the host posts their cutoff (usually in the form of a scoreboard or interval act) on the IC thread. During this window, edits are allowed to lyrics and RP, but new posts are not allowed and entries must have a full set of lyrics before the period begins to enter the contest.

However, if the review period has already passed, things are a little more difficult. It depends on what is required to be edited – if the edit is a simple grammar, spelling, or formatting correction, you can let the Committee know and we'll let you edit your entry. Big alterations – such as substantial alterations to lyrics or changing sections entirely – are not allowed. If we notice that someone has altered their entry too substantially or without prior acknowledgement or approval from the Committee, the entrant will be at risk of being disqualified.

‣ So what comes next? Voting?
Yes, that's right! You may post your votes after the review period ends – exactly 12 hours after the cutoff is posted. Just like in Eurovision, you give 12 points to your favourite entry, then 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and finally 1 point to your next favourite. Please vote on time! The host may choose to close voting after the deadline, but if you do not vote, or have a full vote readily posted on time, you will be disqualified. Unlike posting entries, 'reserving' a spot for your jury points is not permitted.

Next, you do the televote. Here, it means that you fill out the form that is linked by the host or the committee, and rank each entry from 1 to 10, with 1 being worst and 10 being best. Ever since the official implementation of the televote since the 83rd edition of the contest, everyone's televotes will be revealed by the Committee, so you can see the full breakdown of the voting sequence (both televote and jury) after the contest ends. We use a weighting system to calculate the televotes - this will be changed at the discretion of the committee if the number of 0's exceeds 10% of participating nations (this will be done only for those nations with a score of above -10).

‣ Can I enter the contest with puppet nations?
You can! You may enter a second nation, but make sure you confirm that it is yours in the signups! However, with great power comes great responsibility: you can only give a maximum of 5 points to yourself in the jury vote, and together with your main nation you can only give a maximum of 14 jury points to another nation, so please double check before submitting your votes to avoid inadvertently giving a nation too many points than allowed or two sets of points (ex: Country Y giving 7 points AND 2 points to Country X).

‣ I do not feel safe or welcome here. What do I do?
If you are bullied, harassed or intimidated by someone who is participating in the contest, please contact the Committee or the members individually, and we will ensure confidentiality while we take on to analyze your situation. We will confront the individuals in question and take appropriate action on the basis of their actions, if the harassment happens or persists outside of the contest, we recommend you report the individual to NationStates moderators.

‣ I didn't have my question answered! Who or where do I ask?
If you have more questions, you can freely ask in this OOC thread, we also recommend joining the Discord server linked at the top of this post as we can assure more active responses there, or simply telegram the WorldVision Committee. It helps if you add the Committee's individual member names (Carrelie, Elejamie, Malta Comino Gozo, Rugenia, and Ugunnustan) in the "To:" box along with "WorldVision Committee" for better chances of a faster response as some members may reside in farther time zones.

To summarize; be original, fair and don't be a jerk to others and we'll all have fun. If you have any questions or concerns about the contest, entries and so forth, please feel free to telegram the Committee.

Even if you've missed the deadline or aren't participating, feel free to discuss the contest in this thread or post broadcaster commentary in the IC, we do love some good commentary nowadays. Furthermore, you can participate in the RotW vote if you have participated previously and/or are a full member of the IBA. (For this, see the information in the 'televotes' explanation listed above.)

With all that said, welcome to WorldVision!

‎ COMMITTEE UPDATE ‎

Bonjour all! Since we last did one of these announcements, spring has turned into one of the hottest summers ever, 6 or so heatwaves have passed us by, the world basically lit on fire, and despite it all the Committee has remained hard at work coming up with ways to improve this contest! We've been keeping an eye on the reception we've received in the past 2 contests – both good and bad – and we're continuously working to make this contest the best it can be.

The changes we're discussing this edition mainly concern the televote: its structure, the way it's calculated, the way you vote in it. While these discussions are ongoing, here's what we've decided so far:

  • Only one televote per user will be allowed starting this edition. Over the past few editions we've seen a nation and puppet giving either 2 10s or 2 1s to an entry having an extreme impact on the final result. By only allowing one televote per user, regardless of whether they've entered a puppet or not, we're looking to level the playing field slightly and avoid any one person having an outsized effect on the final result.
For: 4 (Carrelie, Ertzei Kishim, Elejamie, MCG)
    Against: 1 (Ugunnustan)

  • The .5 scores from 107 are being reintroduced. The exact form these scores will take and their weightings will be discussed within the committee, but starting this edition you'll once again be able to give 5.5, 6.5, 7.5, 8.5, and 9.5 scores in the televote. We believe this will make televoting a bit more granular, really let people express how they feel about the competing entries in a way a simple 1-10 scale cannot – and maybe even deliver a more interesting result, we'll see!
For: 3 (Carrelie, Ertzei Kishim, Ugunnustan)
    Abstain: 1 (Elejamie)
    Not voting: 1 (MCG)
We're also discussing changing the weightings a little for extra proportionality and a whole flurry of other changes to the system. Any changes we do decide to make will be posted here on the OOC thread – so do keep an eye out! We hope you all have a fun time in 129!

MCGBC CONFIRMS RETURN FOR WORLDVISION 129

The Malta Comino Gozo Broadcasting Corporation is pleased to confirm that Malta Comino Gozo will return to the WorldVision Song Contest for its 129th edition.

Following a 1 edition hiatus, MCGBC believes the time is right for the nation to once again take its place on the WorldVision stage. While our decision to withdraw from WorldVision 128 reflected genuine concerns regarding the direction and administration of the contest, we have always maintained that our absence would be temporary.

WorldVision has always been an integral part of Malta Comino Gozo’s cultural identity for more than fifty editions. As the contest’s most successful nation, with 12 victories, we remain committed to celebrating music, creativity and the spirit of international competition.

Our break has allowed MCBC to reflect on its future participation, and we are excited to begin a new chapter. MCGBC looks forward to working alongside fellow broadcasters and once again showcasing the very best of MCGoan music to audiences around the world! To our supporters who joined us thank you, and thank you for your patience during our absence. We cannot wait to return!

And now, Emma Maxwell will return with her new alternative rock/metal song, Enerġija!

STATEMENT REGARDING CROSSOVERIAN PARTICIPATION AT WORLDVISION

In the name of God, the most gracious and merciful.

We wish to thank all participating broadcasters, viewers, and listeners for yet another spectacular edition of the WorldVision Song Contes. 128 was especially special for Crossoveria; we achieved our best result ever, just missing out on the podium with “Someone Like Me” by the spectacular Ribbit Rabbit. This was especially great for us given our placement in the edition prior to this.

Al Korosofiya would, at this time, announce another edition of NouwSetar, the national selection for Crossoveria. However, this will be postponed. In light of the ongoing presidential election, executive leadership is divided on what steps to take in regard to WorldVision. In the past, every election cycle, Al Korosofiya has made it a priority to broadcast advertisements, debates, polling, etc on 1, its main channel, as well as several extended channels. Because Al Korosofiya 1 is the channel that typically broadcasts WorldVision, we worry that it may interfere with our election programming, which will continue to be a priority until early November.

At the same time, we recognize that WorldVision has been a great way for Crossoveria to display its musical talent and culture to the world. Regardless of how we did in the contest, there has always been a sense of pride for Crossoverians seeing themselves being represented on the world’s largest stage. Many in the executive leadership worry that a withdrawal, even for one edition, would alienate Crossoverian citizens.

As a result, we cannot definitely confirm our participation or withdrawal from the 129th edition at this time. A vote will be held in a few days on whether to stay or leave. Once again, we are not affirming a withdraw at the moment. We will bring more updates as circumstances develop.

For now, we wish every country and artist competing good luck in their endeavors in this upcoming edition.

STATEMENT REGARDING CROSSOVERIAN PARTICIPATION AT WORLDVISION (UPDATE)

In the name of God, the most gracious and merciful.

Following a vote, Al Korosofiya has decided that Crossoveria will participate in the WorldVision Song Contest 129.

This comes after a deal with an extended Al Korosofiya channel, which agreed to broadcast the event on our behalf. Ochiu, which typically broadcasts music videos and cultural festivals, as well as a co-broadcaster for NouwSetar, will take on full responsibility this edition. We appreciate their help during this time.

NouwSetar will proceed as usual where a delegate will be chosen to represent Crossoveria.

Thank you for standing by. Here's to another great edition of this amazing competiton.

L I B E R T É
COMMUNIQUÉ DU RADIO-SOLME
APPROUVÉ POUR DIFFUSION PAR LE COMITÉ DE SALUT PUBLIQUE

The administration of Radio-Solme has been pleased to be charged by the Directorate of the Republic with the presentation of a Solmish entry for the 129th edition of the WorldVision Song Contest. The past three editions of the contest have seen great interest in the Solmish market, with the participation of Citizen Athéna Garreaux on behalf of the country of Metras generating particularly high viewership on 1ère chaîne de Radio-Solme.

Radio-Solme has received dispensation from the Directorate of the Republic to organise a national selection, to be named the Concours WorldVision de la Chanson Finale Solmeaise. The selection will feature ten artists selected by the Musical Board at Radio-Solme performing songs of their own composition, with the entrant decided by means of public voting. The selected artists will be announced by the board in due course.

The administration of Radio-Solme hopes that through participation in the WorldVision contest and the provision of further contest-related programming on 1ère chaîne it shall be able to promote the culture of the Republic further afield and strengthen the fraternity of all Citizens in pursuit of a more unified Republic of Reason.

We wish all the artists competing to represent the Republic the very best of luck.

Citizen Victoir Arthaut
Director, Radio-Solme

POLKOPIAN NATIONAL BROADCASTING (PNB)
PRESS RELEASE | FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PNB Announces Shortlist for Symfonik 2026

Following Polkopia’s return to the Worldvision Song Contest last edition and finishing in 2nd place with Nikola Pirozić’s song, Vokariya, the Polkopian National Broadcaster (PNB) is thrilled to announce that the official shortlist of competing entries for Symfonik has been officially selected.

This edition, Symfonik will feature a two-semi-final format leading up to a grand national final. PNB’s selection committee sifted through hundreds of submissions to assemble a lineup that showcases the very best of Polkopia's musical talent.

The PNB is officially retiring the previous 50/50 split between the domestic jury and televote used in recent editions of the contest. Returning to a beloved fan-favorite voting model, the winner of Symfonik and Polkopia’s representative for Worldvision will now be decided by a 50/50 split between an international jury and the domestic televote.

PNB invites broadcasting partner across the globe to take part. External nations interested in contributing to the international jury panel are encouraged to submit their voting panels to PNB.
