The Captina Company Football Agency (TCCFA) controls all levels of football in the nation, issuing licenses to groups wishing to form teams. The Captina Company Super League consists of 14 teams playing every opponent once between April & June then following a 2 month break, play every opponent again between September & November.

Captina Island made the final step into the ranks of World Cup Finals participants in the last cycle, then followed that with their first ever quarterfinal appearance in the Copa Rushmori, but the backbone of the side that were the pioneers of the nation's foray into mixed gender have moved on and the side will look towards consolidating their top 50 ranking with a new generation of stars.

Nickname: Rosso e Oro (Red & Gold) is the official designation, although there have been rare instances where “Peacocks” has been used in reference to the national animal; 'Peahens' was adapted for the Women's team that played in the Jenna Raven Cup 3 and later in Tea Cup 2.

Captina Island is the southernmost nation in Rushmore, made up of 6.3 million people of which approximately 31% are ethnic Captini--the native Polynesian type peoples who occupied the island prior to discovery--and 42% Italini, descendants of the settlers who arrived after 1922, with about 20% identifying themselves as mixed. The remainder are of other ethnic backgrounds and nationalities.

Captina Island thrives in all aspects of life thanks to the rigorous discipline of “The Plan” (officially known as The Captina Island National Community Operation Master Plan [CINCOMP]) which organizes the priorities, agenda, and the day to day running of proper society within the Armed Republic.

All economic affairs are controlled by the five major privately owned corporations that operate under the provisions of The Plan, holding exclusive license to conduct the nationwide administration of the following areas:

Any remaining areas that would be under the control of a constituted government are handled by The Burkett Group, which is owned in equal shares by the five main corporations and a public ownership scheme funded by a 50 crown (about NS$10) per week deduction from the wages of all citizens. TBG functions as a bureaucratic administrative body, coordinating inter-company affairs in addition to providing the personnel for things like police/fire protection, vital statistics record keeping, public spaces maintenance, and other public services.

TBG operates from the National Capital District of Big Flint which has a population of 84,000, while the other corporations each have their own headquarters city, although they have nationwide operations; within each major city, the 'affiliated' companies have satellite offices to handle the daily business.

Nickname: The White Stars is the historically-accepted nickname for Saint Eleanor, owing to the central symbol on their flag. Since their CoH84 win, the use of Falcons or Peregrine Falcons (previously lost in translation by Huayramarca's erstwhile Trome as "Peregrin Hawks") - a homage to the national animal, once avoided for fear of confusion with the Pink Falcons of Nova Aegis - has soared in popularity. Ahem.

Race, ethnicity and species: Felaraneta is black [and ethnically Sochean]. Vickers is white [but half-Tinhamptonian through her dad, half-Prahecqois through her mum]. Matsuda and Fujiwara are Squidroidian [i.e. Japanese]. Sundgren is white [and ethnically Norrish]. Aldra is Brantid. All other humans are white [and ethnically Tinhamptonian].
Matsuda lives in a human body, but he is also one of Squidroidia's six feted Wunderbars, a victim/beneficiary of human experimentation intended - often, if not always, with success - to make the experimentees among the best footballers in the multiverse. Gentle Breeze, manager, is a pegasus (and the image of her linked towards the end of this roster was generously donated by EQS, only for Imgur to so cruelly take it away from my fellow Brits). Reniira Clevinger, co-assistant manager, is half-human, half-satyr. All others are fully human.

No drama: Eleanorians play football the way they're entirely convinced it's meant to be played. No gloves (goalies excepted), no long-sleeved thermal underthings, no obnoxiously-coloured boots, absolutely no cutting off the bottoms of their socks and sticky-taping a new one on, and no unjustified whinging, moaning or faking: just getting on with the job, having "fun," and trying to win somehow. Some call it non-league standard. Others call it dour, evangelical Christianity (never mind only 70% of the population believes it). We call it one of the best forms of football in the world.

How to read my roster's short list: Every position in the short list has a colour code: goalkeepers are orange; defenders red; midfielders green; strikers blue; managers purple; assistant managers pink. The captain is in black; their vice-captain is in grey. Major palmares (WC, CoH, BoF ----- CAFA, AOCAF, ARC, CR, CE, CMFA, IAC ----- CL/CC, ChC/GC, AT, CWC, LBCT/SBCC, RSC/YC) are in golden yellow, and - for staff - distinguished by whether won as a [P]layer, [M]anager or [A]ssistant manager.
Takers of setpieces (LCK, RCK, FK, PK) are in very, very dark green after palmares. Simply because a player is down as the free-kick taker does not mean they take all free-kicks, however: those from wide positions, eighty yards from goal and so on will be taken by those in the best position.
Dual nationalities go at the end, after any other shortlist tags, even if the player in question has only ever been capped by Saint Eleanor. Currently these are Sundgren ("dual NRH;" flipped to the Eleanorians of her volition), Vickers ("dual PRH;" Prahecq's national team has never appeared at a major competition), Matsuda ("dual SQR;" appeared at WC91 and won IAC17), and Aldra ("dual SRS;" was shortlisted for the Confederates this year but was nowhere near making the cut).

WHAT DO THE PLAYER RATINGS IN SAINT ELEANOR'S TEAMSHEET MEAN?

Report by Candy Hewitt, Channel 4 football analyst: With Saint Eleanor becoming a more and more important nation in the world of football - and certainly one of the most important pound-for-pound - it is just as crucial that people both within and beyond Saint Eleanor know exactly what they can expect from our men and women in black. While I have continued to publish my player ratings here on four.ex as always, you might have noticed that they are now included by SEFA in the official roster for the World Cup, not only giving them a wider reach but also requiring a bit of further explanation for those of you who might not be familiar with them.
First things first, I've given these ratings to everyone on the team - including the staff, as the attributes are based on broad-stroke quality and mental attributes rather than (necessarily) physicality. It's also important to remember that these are my opinions only (although they are well-informed ones) and may not necessarily be statements of fact (although they may well be pretty close to it).
Each person is assessed on an overall scale, and then on six discrete ability scales.
--> The first rating you see, the player In their position, is the most important. This is not a composite measure of the six ability scales. It is an overall assessment of the quality of each player, compared to other players in their positions. It is - for example - possible for an A-tier player to have S+-tier, S-tier, B-tier, or C-tier abilities, although they will generally be As.
--> The second rating is for Teamwork. This measures the player's ability to work together with their teammates, on and off the pitch, to achieve high-quality outcomes. Players with high teamwork scores have good relationships with their teammates in all aspects; extremely good relationships with most or all of the team provide a bigger boost.
--> The third rating is for Adaptability. This measures the player's ability to adapt to potential situations beyond the duties they are expected to perform in their position. Sudden changes, or switches in position, would count as adaptability; "sweeper-keepers" do not automatically get high adaptability scores.
--> The fourth rating is for Courage under fire. This measures the player's ability to cope with struggle, change, and shock - such as dressing room revolts, going 2-0 down inside fifteen minutes, and huddling together with a player down. Whereas adaptability considers positional and tactical surprises, this considers "permanent shocks" that require a full-throttled rethink in approach.
--> The fifth rating is for Creative thinking. This measures the player's ability to come up with innovative solutions to problems, on and off the pitch. Creative thinking is not the same thing as creativity or flair (or, heaven forbid, showboating) - it means being able to think of unexpected approaches that nevertheless work perfectly.
--> The sixth rating is for Diplomacy. This measures the player's ability to resolve disputes, matchmake, organise meetings, and keep everyone satisfied if needs must. It doesn't measure the same thing as teamwork, which focuses on the strength of pre-existing relationships rather than protecting and negotiating them.
--> The final rating is for Forthrightness. This measures the player's ability to speak their mind, make their expectations clear, and (to some extent) influence people. Eleanorians are tradtionally pretty good at this; players with higher forthrightness scores are more direct and more persuasive, those with lower scores are weak and waffly.
There are seven possible scores that can be assigned to each rating, each relative to other players in their positions. Scores can vary from time to time - who knew that Magnws-rym would be one of the breakout stars of WC99 at the start of BoF86?
--> S+ is, by definition, only given to one or maybe two players in each position - keeping in mind that some teams field two or three centrebacks, one or two strikers, CAMs and CDMs instead of flat central midfielders... - for a worldwide total of around 15 S+ players in their positions. (Of course, there are a notable number of players who may be S-tier or A-tier in their position, but who nevertheless have one or two S+ abilities.) These players are better than anyone else in their position at what they do. Lavrentiy Xuen-Zhukov is the S+ striker; Laborious Hawk is the S+ attacking midfielder. They could slot into any team in the world, not just - for example - Chromatika, Montreal Koreana, Valanora, and Myana. They are the starters on the World XI.
--> S is given to around 4-6 players in each position, for a worldwide total of around 55 S players. These players aren't the absolute greatest in the world - they'd be the World XI's substitutes and reserves - but they can certainly match up to the best teams and would have an excellent chance at starting for all but the most absolutely-stacked teams in the real world.
--> A is given to around 20-25 players in each position, for a worldwide total of around 250 A players. These players would be good enough to start for most teams in Qualifying Pot 1, or to veritably star for a good regionals-only team such as Irithoren or Demot, but might not be necessarily good enough to break into the starting lineup of a very high-ranked team such as Valanora and Tikariot (although that's not to say that the Elves or the Owls don't necessarily have A-tier starters). Saint Eleanor has predominantly been an A-tier side since Gentle Breeze took over at CoH87 (WC95), as Saint Eleanor has improved - or, if you're feeling cynical, consolidated - in quality and consistently avoided missteps in qualifying.
--> B is given to around 40-60 players in each position, for a worldwide total of around 525 B players. These players are first-call substitutes for good teams such as Saint Eleanor, but are out-and-out starters for the kinds of team that flit between the World Cup finals and the Cup of Harmony. Any player who consistently hits the B-tier in terms of both position and abilities - no matter what their nationality - can consider themselves to have done a good job at this whole football thing. Saint Eleanor was dominated by B-tier players after qualifying for WC91, as new stars came through the ranks.
--> C is given to around 75-100 players in each position, for a worldwide total of around 960 C players. These players are of sufficient calibre that they keep turning up at the Cup of Harmony every other year, with varying levels of success. However, they don't quite have what it takes either to play in the World Cup finals nor to qualify for the big one. If they're on a good national team, you should expect limited game time from them, given their relatively low status in the pecking order. Saint Eleanor was dominated by C-tier players in its earliest years, as it started to find its level.
--> D is given to around 150-200 players in each position, for a worldwide total of around 1,920 D players. Saint Eleanor will be playing many teams without publicised rosters, as will virtually every other team in the tournament, but there's a good chance that a lot of their players on any of those teams will be D-tier, with a smattering of F-tier no-hopers. D-tier players are also milling around the lower professional realms of good IFCF league systems, the summit of new IFCF league systems, and the reserves of okay-but-not-good teams with known rosters. Some D-tier players are underdeveloped and need a bit of love; others have decayed from their peak; a few are hanging on for emotional support, encouragement, and continuity.
--> F is given to everyone else in the world, namely people who aren't cut out for international football. There are billions upon billions of F players. Everyone, or close to it, is born as an F-tier player with a full deck of F-tier abilities; it takes a lot of hard work over time to improve. You can lapse back into F status if you fall out of practice or you have disgraced your reputation so thoroughly - even if you're actually good at football - that you are de facto no longer welcome in the sport.

The Eleanorian roster will be in two parts due to its length.
Part 1 (above) contained a list of players and staff, a comprehensive guide to player ratings, and a series of OOC notes about the roster.

Note: As of the first cutoff, many players were missing their ability scale ratings (added in dribs and drabs post-SFs), and Gisken Aldra was missing many of their personal factoids (will not be added until WC101, if ever).

You almost certainly read the above mini-file and suspected that Richardson was a bit of a romantic. It would be accurate to call her a bookworm, but she has vouched for falling asleep at the opera, not wanting to follow her (University College) teammates to nightclubs, and - more than almost anything else - wanting to study. Whatever you do, do not hold your conversations with her during the match: she is far more likely to shake you into paying attention, actually pay attention to the proceedings herself, try to grab hold of the ball if the opposition ever thrusts it in her general direction, and move the ball where it makes most sense (rather than just kicking it out... somewhere). Luckily for Richardson, her somewhat self-induced collapse of Sword and Shield has been mostly reversed by Olympia Woodward and company; just don't ask about Crvena Zvezda, how old most of their players are, why she jumped ship to their rivals after exactly one season, what even happened to the Mytanar league that made not even that option worthwhile, or for that matter why she keeps moving from beknighted club to beknighted club.

Winchester has long progressed past cult-hero status into the realms of Absolute Legendariness: a nailed-on starter for the Liberators in both good times and bad, she has also proven her worth for the national team, from that moment she scored the winner against Juvencus fifteen years ago through to the present-day twilight of her career. Despite only having taken up football as a hobby aged nine, she has proven herself to be strong in making passes, cutting them out, and, of course, stopping them from ever happening. These might look like the fundamentals, but to misquote Derek Pittam, she is "a midfielder in completely the wrong place" - which is a compliment, not an insult. Ignore the fact he tried to change her mind about positions to no avail.

While Curran was infamously captained by what used to be Juventud straight after her exit from high-school cheerleading, her road to the starting lineup has been rather more prolonged and will in all likelihood come up short in a few years. She is more of a transitional starter than anything else in this day and age, combining a smothering of learned, almost-exciting attacking edge with pragmatic positional flexibility, the ability to hound opposing wingers when it's necessary, and a willingness to get stuck in as a last resort - in all fairness, almost the complete opposite of the newly-retired Exandra Davies' approach to the game.

As well as having made an instant positive impression on everyone involved - even the Indy fans - Vickers is tough, somewhat irritating to get up against and almost a pure defender (if not exactly, given that she's been known to get forwards when appropriate); some would describe her as a better-behaved, less vocal Sam Newbridge. Although privately-educated, firmly religious and softly-spoken off the pitch, there is almost no mistaking either the excellent relationship she had with Launceston (although it looks as though she will be on no worse terms with Wilson, despite the club rivalry) or the strong nature of her defending, whether physically or attributionally - and her recent election as captain will surely vindicate her many supporters.

Wilson's callup to Indy was a bit of a gamble. It paid off, judging by the fact that her callup here is not. What can easily be said about her is that she is one of the most responsible players this nation has ever seen - she took Matt Morrison under her wing a few years into her career; both now both play for Indy and just about any defender can learn her lessons on how to get the ball cleanly, how to pass it to the right person at the right time, when to co-ordinate the press (if it's necessary)... and, as Avondale City once learned, when it's justified to get out there and latch onto that setpiece. She may be on the bench here, but she will always be one for the future - a cult hero, so to speak.

Morgan is about as enigmatic as you would expect an Eleanorian to be, which is "reasonably so, under the circumstances." Conventionally a common-and-garden central midfielder, she has all too often been typecast - including by many of Celestia's faithful and even in this very roster - as a pivotal defensive midfielder, perhaps rightly so. Yet her occasional attacking verve must never be underestimated when it emerges from the deep, she has nowhere near the aggressive reputation of her forebear Nicholls... and she might as well only ever utter sarcasm, given her general dislike for extraneous conversation and her preference for good literature and, occasionally, good cinema.

Some people know Graham Lawson best for clocking a teenaged Brianna Austen in the face with a wayward penalty. Football aficionados know him best for regularly delivering for Athletic when it was at its pomp (he still does even at this ripe old age) - and for his preference to cut inside and make his own luck if he can, as the great Jessica Martin would have, rather than simply crossing. His tactical and positional awareness is also a bonus, he isn't a bad shot - he can't be for his own sake - he's a proudly working-class voice in the Chamber of Commerce's club and he's outspoken on football too when the situation demands it. Lawson has at this point long crossed from "the new order of things" to "typically consistent and reliable;" it's incumbent on him, as much as it is on us, to enjoy his game while he can.

Does this man need any introduction? As it turns out, yes: one of the six Wunderbars who took Squidroidia to such places as the World Cup knockouts and the Independents Cup trophy-lift, Quatro moved to Saint Eleanor shortly after his homeland's withdrawal from international football and has arguably done better for himself than any of his peers. On his best days, he can be one of the best in the world, just as originally advertised: calm, composed, able to shift from attack to defence without a second thought, and proven quality on the highest level (including the knockout stages of both major IFCF tournaments, two Cup Winners' Cup finals and multiple World Cup rounds of sixteen). On his worst days, though, he can get mad - very mad - and has already clocked up a few red cards for the trouble. It's very likely you'll get the nice Matsuda when it comes to it... but it's absolutely not certain.

Although a firm and politically-engaged idealist off the pitch, to the extent that politics exists in Saint Eleanor, Woodward can be very much pragmatic on it; there's no other way she could have gathered so many admirers at this age. Her years in the Sword and Shield setup have taught her how to effectively move the play on to more well-positioned players, or indeed when to go for it, a skill that seems critically underrated by Eleanorian commentators - although the expectations now on her may belie that in due course. She is also good at moving the ball around by herself, something that has taunted opposing defenders throughout time and gotten more than a couple of them in the referee's bad graces - and has also discharged her setpiece duties for the club well enough in the few years she's had them.

If you think that Felaraneta is a bit of an obscure player, you have a good reason: he remains in the shadows of pretty much everyone else in the Indy squad, even despite his rave reviews. He is, at the very least, a bona-fide playmaker, if not quite the best you've ever seen - fond of feeding the ball into the frontlines and preferring to wait for a good opportunity to make things happen rather than simply push forwards, he can also drop back and work from there if needs absolutely much. He can also be readily exasperated, more so than even Pilchard, and has been known to waft his arms about to express his dismay (or sometimes just to make a simple point he thinks hasn't quite gotten though yet). Eleanorians may have little time for drama but they have already shown that they have more than enough time for the dramatician.

The first ethnically Rulandese player ever to turn up for the White Stars, Öhân has been pointedly described by Arsenal captain (and former national team member) Hugh Roanoke as "a good method actor." As usual, the comment is not that far off the mark: he is an effective, if somewhat disorganised, operator who has all the attacking skills expected of a wide player, is about as good at defending as you would expect a Rulandese man in his position to be, and has shown enough further dedication to his craft that he is already appearing in the starting lineup, having beaten out allcomers and then the once-remarkable Northend into the job.

One of the new-look Polytechnic Institute's long-time annoyances, Addison is refreshingly at home with the national team's flexible setup, if only a substitute at that. Her ability to run the line, manage her pace (and, if necessary, place), get focused crosses into the box, and confuse opposition defenders is on a level unmatched not only in the Poly's history, but also among just about any other Eleanorian wide midfielder of her age. Despite being a child of the 4-4-2 system who has never really seen fit to be a perennial goalscorer, Addison is nonetheless an effective attacking player in most other aspects, and one who is therefore ideally placed to provide both emergency and not-so-urgent backup.

While the callups of several Eleanorian footballers has been questioned in the past, few have been challenged more vigorously than Sundgren's introduction to the squad, having until very recently served quite the tour of duty with Norrhem's national team in recent Cope Rushmori. Although about as good a fit for the national mould as you would expect a dreadfully sarcastic lady who joined Athletic almost by accident from the Ko-orenite third division to be - that is, a rather good one - arguments have raged about offering her citizenship in the first instance was even proper. All parties officially involved think it is, however, and it might prove to be an inspired one given her command of things and the fact that she has proven to be a more-than-effective member of possibly the greatest defensive unit in League history, outside of Indy and the 1980s Army.

Praised early on in her career by Naresmet taFrexala as "almost as annoying as she's good" - not a bad compliment from one of the defenders who's gotten to know how she plays best - Emmerson inherited Olympic's left from former captain Samuel Short and has since proceeded to behave almost exactly unlike him. She more than knows how to attack and go for goal with aplomb, she has enough skill in her to really evade defenders, she can be assertive when she has (even physically so, despite her size) and she is generally an extremely creative player in a team and a league that values creativity little. If she can't deliver, hardly anyone in her position can.

In the absolutely politest sense possible, Lydia Nicholls has no morals whatsoever. Some of those who have met her insist that she is a rather nice - even wonderful - person who'll most likely leave you alone but has no tolerance for inane bullshit or otherwise veiled threats. This might be true off the pitch (please ignore the fact she has two young children already), but there is very little chance of her leaving you alone on it, especially not if you look like you might be threatening a goal. This is not to say she is indiscriminate or that stopping the opposition at all costs is her only strategy - of course she also knows how the old Eleanorian arts of distribution work, despite not being particularly fond of going forward for the most part - but it is, at least at this moment, what she is best known for. That and her lob from the halfway line against Juventud many moons ago. And what she did in the IFCF after that.

While a grossly underrated player, Gray has won enough plaudits at the club level that her callup to the national team is surely a sign that the long centreback crisis is finally over. Ironically, she has a fair amount of similarities to Esther Launceston, the woman whose arrival heralded it for seasoned watchers of the game - she tends to stay back, move the ball about, and is not afraid to win it back if needs absolutely must - although she's much less accomplished, not that tall, not one to cheerlead when it's not necessary, and quite obviously a bit less creative on and off the field.

As befits her name, Bright is one of the most imaginative and provocative members of the national team... off the field. She has said - with various levels of believability - that she voluntarily chose to serve in the Army for non-sporting reasons, that Army and Navy itself would be better if they adopted a more attacking tilt, that Lydia Vickers would make such a good captain because "she knows what she wants," and that she herself is "probably not good enough to start." Despite being reasonably unremarkable as an actual player - just about fast, strong, and accurate enough to force her way past opponents - her relatively goal-hunting attitude to the game does at least manage to distinguish herself from many of her compatriot strikers.

Morrison has repeatedly sworn up and down that, for all her mentoring, he is not just the male Katy Wilson. You could be mistaken for thinking that they had similar playstyles - both are tough, fair, and distributional - but Morrison has nowhere near her leadership chops, is markedly less middle-class, doesn't have as many remarkable individual achievements, and would much rather speak his mind if that means getting a few people upset. By the admission of many, he is largely here to tide the squad over while a new generation of defenders comes through the ranks, but this is obviously not to demean his essential role as one of the defensive bedrocks behind his club's recent accomplishments, or perhaps his ability to influence change in this ongoing soft-transition period.

Aldra is not only more dramatic than most, but might be the most outrageous footballer Saint Eleanor has ever seen - whether it be their tendency to go all-out when going out, their status as the only non-binary player in the League not to hail from Qusmo, the circumstances surrounding their marriage, or the fact that they flipped to the Eleanorians almost out of dissatisfaction with being overlooked by the Squornshelan FA. On the field, they have unsurprisingly been a rather effective member of the Polytechnic's attacking setup, and one who was rather lucky never to actually get sent off despite their rare tendencies to go off the handle ("the one and only time I'll ever accept comparisons with Wunderbar," they said after one such incident). Anyone who can do well on a team that was for many years infamous for its low quality will surely do just fine for the sixth-best national team on the planet, ranked behind the world champions by a fraction of a fraction of a point.

Like many of Saint Eleanor's new generation, Barnett is a thoroughly boring player: someone who can, and arguably must, do his job; who has a firm grounding in both sides of the game; who has been perenially tipped for a move to somewhere, perhaps anywhere, else; and who has very much adapted to being a jack of many, if not all, tricks - all very "nothing to see here." However, his relative youth comes as an advantage: he is "only" twenty-eight, still has many cycles ahead of him, is one of Mary Kirkport's most cherished players, and is hardly hated by anyone (although his relative lack of star power might account for that, as well).

Part of one of the best generations of footballers ever raised by the Trident Community School, Falconer has proven herself to be an eager fullback... perhaps too eager. More of a conservative, linehugging sort than most, she has slowly started to gain a reputation for pushing up as needs be when the designated wide midfielder cuts inside (and many of them do, even at GHC), while also proving herself to be hotheaded in her dealings with attacking players from the right flank even when they aren't playing for Grand Beach. Yes, she can be a fun person on and off the pitch - and often is - but her serious side is outrageously driven, even if it's relatively harder to get on the wrong side of it just through your own actions.

Marks is, almost by necessity given the setup at his club, a good-old-fashioned centre-forward who will hang out in front of goal, bang in a bit more than one every two games and annoy a fair few people - as well as someone who can and will work with Kavezalea Felaraneta, or indeed whoever is around him, in order to make sure that no attacking opportunity goes to waste. Although he is no Dortmün Çídh, he is more than good enough to get the job done virtually every time for a club that is desperately looking to regain its long-held mantle as the nation's best, and should do the same for his country on the rare few occasions that he gets a chance to.

There are two things that can readily be said about Robby Ellis: he is boring and he has had the good fortune to crest a recent wave of excellent finishes for Indy. A solid but nondescript goalkeeper who can handle just about anything that comes towards him, he isn't a man-manager so much as he is someone who can mind his own business and leave the better defenders out of it. When you're with the national team, or the nation's team, you know you'll have good defenders (almost interchangably so) - meaning that he won't have much of a problem beyond getting stuck behind the two best goalkeepers in the country in the pecking order.

Army and Navy have had its good years (2006 most famously) and its bad years (such as most of the years before that), but Livingston has stayed the course for the past decade and was recently rewarded with its captaincy... as she was with the Army School when she won the Golden Backpack starring for them in 1998. She was known then, and is still known now, for her ability to chase the ball almost ruthlessly, get strikers off the ball before they could do much with it, and generally just be diligent with everything she does. Although unlikely to get many minutes for the national team for various reasons, none of them have ever had anything to do with her quality; you should never bet against her making a good, if not particularly shouty, impression when she gets the time.

Pilchard was at one point Olympic's best-known player and as close as you could get to being a nailed-on starter for the national team. Today, with Felaraneta having more than earned his chops, he hangs on as a much-needed piece of national heritage: more of a natural playmaker than just about any other Eleanorian who calls themself one, on a good day, he is infamously okay at dribbling at a level where you should be good at it - but more than compensates with a good eye for goal (from reasonable distances that might somehow be worthy of an eyeroll) and a well-developed sense of good and bad passing (especially from reasonable distances that, by international standards, actually are reasonable nowadays).

Thankfully for Goldsmith, the Farf crime gangs have been decimated by the Army - so he can get on with his real job, which is now to wait for Olympia Woodward to give up, hang around in front of goal in her stead, and snatch as many good opportunities as he can. He is still being a regular contributor to his club's attack, proving to be an effective asset in both the IFCF and the World Cup, and has even demonstrated that his speed can be a serious asset rather than a fancy trinket that doesn't do anything. But, having spent five of Saint Eleanor's eleven cycles as a starter and with probably one or two more still in the tank, despite the rise of Woodward and the doubts about his own accuracy that he has never truly been able to shake off, nobody can seriously question his legacy - or his new position in the squad.

The record says it all, and not just because it's exhausting to read out. Priscilla Evans, Saint Eleanor's first manager, ran into one clique too far - she was taken down due to a combination of arguably the most unimpressive qualifiers in Eleanorian history, a widely-criticised failure to properly manage the "Class of 2007" on the field, and the largest player revolt ever at the end of it all. Gentle Breeze - one of the greatest Equestrians ever to play hoofball - handled the transition with rather more dignity in her first cycle-and-a-half after retiring from playing; she's kept the more defensive tilt that the side adopted in Evans' final days, although this doesn't indicate that she's a defensive manager so much as it does that she is a manager with a firm but flexible gameplan of the kind that Evans could lack at times.

Roped into the Eleanorian setup on the behest of the new manager, and almost certainly because they both spent their final days with the Trumpeteers, early indications would appear to suggest that Clevinger's other main purpose on the team is to get it moving again (on which count it looks like she's more than succeeded). Something of a goalscoring defender in her time as a player - and I must remind you that she was still playing for Nephara when Saint Eleanor won their Cup of Harmony - Clevinger will broadly be handling the "general outlook" for the team, while Mitcham looks at tactics and Gentle Breeze at the more micro aspects of the system. Whether that means helping to plug gaps in the playbook when necessary, pushing the team to transition between roles more effectively, identifying the best interplay between different positions or telling the press what she's really thinking... well, it means all of those things. Who would I be kidding?

Being Priscilla Evans' assistant was not a fun job. Serving as part of Gentle Breeze's fairly limited experiment in rule by committee has already proven more exciting for Mitcham, who has indicated he will carry on serving the national team until he reaches "an inappropriate age." Having been effectively forced to learn the arts of good communication, better tactics, even higher-quality informal mental healthcare and possibly the best emergency announcements in the world in his first decade on the job, it is the Lieutenant's hope that he will be able to teach the new people the ways of handling a completely unfamiliar squad that may well not be what they're used to. Certainly they will be less stubborn than Evans was...

The Langenian National Team for the World Cup

THE LANGENIAN NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM

The Langenian national football team has the distinction of being the pride and joy of the Republic of Langenia, a country where football is widely regarded as the national sport. Langenia's domestic football league is known for its passionate play, hardcore fanbases, and intense rivalries among clubs dating back decades. Although there are other popular sports in the country, namely gridíron and basketball, none of them come close to being as rooted into Langenian culture as futbol, as it is called in Langenia, does.

The national team, nicknamed Los Azules for their distinct blue uniforms, was formed with the purpose of playing neighboring nations around the same time football arrived in Langenia when the 19th century gave way to the 20th. In times of national hardship or division a competition in which the national football team participates is one of the few things that can closely bring the population together. Although it has participated in several competitions within its own region over the decades of its existence, the World Cup is notable in that Los Azules do not often play in large tournaments of an extra-regional scale.

After a disappointing debut international cycle under Adrian Costa's predecessor, Los Azules have changed their style of play and hope to rebound. Costa's first qualifying cycle also went poorly, an unfortunate performance for a young team that seemed to be growing. As it stands, the dream of Los Azules is to turn things around and avoid getting grouped at the Cup of Harmony like they were last time.

Under Adrian Costa through the first six match days of the World Cup 100 qualifiers, Los Azules completed changed their style of play from the fluid attacking football known as El Juego Bello. Unfortunately, El Juego Bello had been dropped given the poor performance of this style of play in the previous international cycle in which the Langenian high defensive line was exposed by superior opponents too frequently. Under the previous manager in their debut international cycle, a heavily attacking-focused Langenian team conceded more goals than it could score, performed poorly against tougher teams in the qualifiers, and dropped out of the Cup of Harmony group stage. Instead, Costa pushed the Langenian team to adopt a highly defensive block, with the team morphing into a 5-4-1 out of possession of the ball with careful man-marking by each Langenian player of their opposing counterparts. When the team had possession of the ball, the Langenians took on a 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2 shape depending on the type of opposition they faced. Speed was key to scoring goals as Los Azules operate on the counterattack, using quick runs in which the team surged forward to overwhelm the opposing defense and catch them off-guard.

The 4-2-3-1 formation in possession involves a backline of two center-backs, one a physical enforcer and the other a ball-player, two fullbacks who surge backwards and forwards to join in defense or jumpstart attacks on the flank, a midfield double pivot of a defensive-oriented midfielder and a central one focused on distribution, two wingers to cross the ball but most importantly cut inside and score, an attacking midfielder creating goalscoring changes but also carrying out the role of a second striker, and the striker himself, either a false nine focused on clearing defenders out of the way for his fellow forwards or a classic goal-poaching No.9.

The alternative 4-4-2 formation employed by Costa involves the same four-man backline and midfield double pivot, but with the wingers starting on the same part of the pitch as the midfielders and the No.9 striker joined up top by the No.10 attacking midfielder, effectively turning the playmaker of the Langenian team into a second striker.

The 3-5-2 alternative under Costa is more unusual given it uses no right-back, slotting a right winger into that position instead, and places a number 10 behind the striker with a left winger roaming along the flank. The same midfield double pivot remains with a wing-back to their left, a back-three defense is utilized over a more spread-out area. As a result, it more closely resembles a 3-3-2-2.

After a 6-2 defeat to Kelssek in Match Day 5 of the WC Qualifiers in which the Langenians, despite their defensive improvements, conceded several goals, the idea of focusing the team on pure defending was dropped by Costa. Instead, the national team manager brought back El Juego Bello given the abundance of attacking talent on the roster to overcome goalscoring struggles. The switch, combined with a system in which the player defended as a collective out of possession, has created a high-pressing team that once again focuses on possession football and plays a high line but uses their defensive developments when necessary. Nonetheless, it is acknowledged within national team circles that they will likely concede goals multiple times, something Los Azules are more willing to accept than their last international cycle. The hope is that more goals being scored and defending in critical moments such protecting leads will offset this vulnerability.

A notable characteristic of Langenian football is that due to the short stature of many Langenians, the tall, physical strikers often used by other football teams are not common in the country, replaced by "false nines" more diminutive in stature and focused on holding up the ball and linking up play. Thus, the wingers become the primary goal threats of the team, cutting inside on their dominant foots as inside forwards and regularly making attacking runs into the penalty area with the No.10.

The home ground of Los Azules is Diego Talaman Stadium. Located in the heart of Aragon, the national capital of Langenia, it can hold up to 80,000 fans for football games. The stadium is named after Diego Talaman, one of the most famous players in Langenian history and the all-time leading goalscorer for the Langenian national team. Construction of the stadium began in 2006 and was completed in 2010, built with the purpose of hosting Los Azules. In addition, it can also host other sports such as gridiron and rugby or be used as a concert venue.

Alternate Venue

Another stadium in which the Langenian national team plays is in Miraflores Stadium in San Jose, the largest city in the country. Located in the city's wealthy Miraflores neighborhood, the stadium has a capacity of up to 70,000 fans for football games and can also host other sports such as gridiron or rugby games. In the past, it has also been utilized as a concert venue. Recently built to host the San Jose CF football team, it acts as an alternate venue for the Los Azules national team.

In any case, Poskitt is a half-decent goalkeeper, now no longer flinching when a football comes at him at high speed, but he's often forced to fend off an attack all by himself.

Non-GK - Steve Miller (captain)
The driving force behind this band of nutjobs, Miller claims to be able to fly like an eagle, but in reality he just faceplants like the joker that he is. Now, he may not know anything about football, but he's the only person who could get ten others to come with him, so that's good enough.

Non-GK - Steve Rabin
Good at support and wizardry (if permitted, but also if not permitted), Rabin is truly in his prime when Miller's also on the field. Probably the closest thing to a defender among the nine people on this team who listed their position as "unspecified".

Non-GK - Ayn Rand
Kind of an asshole to play alongside, Rand is the only non-corporeal member of the team, but what she lacks in body, she more than makes up for in convincing at least one opposing player per game to abandon their team and to go off and do things for themselves.

From a strange world that appears to be a loop, Mr. Ug is a rather religious man. His only regret was that he wasn't able to bring his good friend Wind with him - the two have left many messages for one another, but they've never met.

I suppose we now have an answer to what Children is. The only person on this team who knows anything about football, Children strongly objects to this madness under Miller, but he isn't the captain, so it's his own fault, really.

Somehow, every time he plays, a deep, dark forest somehow emerges on the pitch, and only he emerges. That's all that needs to be said.

The Steves were looking for a third Steve to join their team, and they made a typo while dictating, somehow. Unfortunately for this stove, it has been given only an appendix to do human things with, and it still can't see or hear.

He claims to have invented football, and to be honest, we don't believe him, but we need some sort of experience. Apparently born in 1843, but that isn't actually a real year, so further doubts abound.

Reçueçn Roster & National Information

National Team Information

The nation of Reçueçn first entered the Baptism of Fire 18 years ago. (And thanks to the inconsistencies of multiversal time, that was 28 World Cups ago.) Back then, the team was very young. Over the years, the players have aged as turnover on the équipe nationale hasn't kept up with the passage of time. Three of the players—the last remnant of the Baptism of Fire—are still on the team, all these years later: Gerauld Firaut, Franky Adams, and Lukas Kayserling. Adams and Kayserling were young teenagers back in those first years, and although Firaut was a few years older, as goalie he's been able to stay on despite his age.

A lot has happened since then. During Reçueçn's first World Cup qualification attempt, Gerauld had to miss the team's biggest game to be at the hospital for his daughter's birth. Now, eighteen years later, the ÉNRF is a mixed-gender team, and Gerauld's own daughter plays on the team alongside him. He and the rest of the remaining BoFers are due for retirement at the end of the World Cup, so this centenary edition will be their last blaze of glory.

If L'Équipe Nationale de Reçueçn de Football is known for anything, it would be its defensive style. Historically this was due to the large influence of Reçueçn FC on the team; the most popular domestic club in Reçueçn plays about as defensive a game as you can imagine. During qualification for the last World Cup, the entire team was replaced after they went on strike, but ultimately the players won so now the old roster is mostly back. There are a few new faces; as a result of the strike and the associated protests, the team is now co-ed and it has its first female players. They debuted in the World Cup but now their presence on the team is beginning to feel like a normal thing.

The team plays in a 4-3-3 formation, but sometimes the wings drop back, almost making it a 4-5-1. In general, the team's strategy and tactics are solid. However, there has always been some tension between the current manager, Bonheur Relié, who would prefer a more attacking style, and the players, who in general are more comfortable on defense. Relié has never managed to make himself as popular with the team as his predecessor, Jacques Tremblay, who was the founding head coach of the team and is a footballing icon for Reçuecians. Relié's inability to build the same relationship is due only to his lack of charisma, not skill, but does make his job more difficult.

The Reçueçian National Team's mascot is the unicorn; thus another name for the team is "les licornes". The fantastical creature has been a symbol of Reçueçn for almost two millennia and is also the national animal, appearing as the supporters in the national coat of arms.

The team will be playing in a brand new kit for the 100th edition of the World Cup, produced by Novos, a Saternalian sportswear company. (See below.)

Reçueçn has only one stadium in which its national team plays, located in the capital city (also named Reçueçn). Never having been given an official title, the national stadium is usually simply referred to as just that: le Stade National. (Reçuecian law requires journalists in the nation to use endonyms even when reporting in English or other non-local languages.) Capacity: 30,000.

Hyron LeBouffe

LeBouffe was chosen after a long convoluted hiring process when the FNRF wanted the previous manager out but wasn't ready with a solid replacement for the role. He joined the players in their strike last year but when public opinion turned on the federation, was reinstated afterward. His leadership style is modest and he often seems to be in the background letting the players take center stage, even in strategic decision making. But having taken the players' side during the strike, he now has their unwavering support and approval. The team is constantly standing up for him in the media when journalists questions his tactical insight. That said, it's hard to point to any of the ÉNRF's strategy that is directly influenced by him—he has mostly stayed the course and continued with Reçueçn's traditional, defensive 4-3-3.

Reçuecian History and Culture

The nation of Reçueçn was created in the first half of the XIV^th century, when Carl Blancpic, Duke of the Duchy of Reçueçn, launched a breakneck military campaign invading and annexing many of his neighbors to the east. Before this time, Reçueçn had been only a city, built on the heights overlooking the junction of the Rhône and Saône rivers. These heights had been settled by Carl Blancpic's distant ancestor, Ifheda Rcuecn, near the end of the II^nd century a.d., and had born his name ever since. The area at that time belonged to the Roman Empire, who had established their regional administrative center, Lugdunum, on the other side of the river.

In 197 a.d., a decisive battle was fought near Lugdunum in one of the civil wars for the throne of the empire. The victor, Septimius Severus, razed the city of Lugdunum and destroyed it, stripping from it all imperial privileges in punishment for supporting his rival. This was the end for Lugdunum, but it was the beginning for Reçueçn. Refugees flocked across the river to join the settlement, and the city of Reçueçn grew to become a smallish regional center. Rcuecn's descendants (who changed the spelling to Reçueçn) maintained control over what became the Duchy of Reçueçn for 700 years, until it was inherited by their cousins the Blancpics who reigned for another 300 years.

At the beginning of the XIV^th century, power passed into the hands of Carl Blancpic, who was a megalomaniac and partially insane . Thus he declared his duchy to be a kingdom and singled out weak neighbors who he invaded with audacity. Over an incredibly short period of time beginning in the spring of 1337, he had carved out for himself a sizable dominion.

Carl, who styled himself "Carl III of Reçueçn", was violent, unstable, and petty. He was also wildly unpopular with the populations of the various states he had conquered. Although the central power structure helped the economy of the new Kingdom of Reçueçn to some extent, it did not bring with it all the stability that might have been expected. This was mostly due to the decrees of Carl III, who, among other things, began a campaign to persecute and kill all "heretics" within his new realm. Most historians agree that this was in fact a thinly veiled purge of his political rivals. This and other policies he enacted on his whims finally drove the people into open revolt in the spring of 1352.

Carl managed to hold on to power for a couple years by hiring mercenaries, but in 1354 lost two key battles and was captured by the rebels. By this time, the rebellion was led by feudal lords throughout the country who had sided with the people against their tyrant king. Carl III was executed, and the kingdom dissolved into a mess of tiny, independent feudal holdings.

No sooner had the various states that had been in the Kingdom of Reçueçn won their independence, than infighting broke out among them. The feudal lords squabbled over power and influence, trying vainly to imitate Carl's meteoric rise to power. This new violence, combined with the economic downturn associated with the rebellion and the breakup of the nation, clearly displayed how poorly things were turning out. More sensible minds came to the decision that the solution was to once more unify Reçueçn.

On November 19, 1356, therefore, The Allied States of Reçueçn came into being. The leaders of all the petty states, duchies, bishoprics, free cities, etc., came together and signed what are known as "The Treaties of the Alliance," a document just powerful enough to make Reçueçn a single nation, rather than a group of independent entities. The treaties also established a rough form of democracy, with each state represented (although typically by its aristocracy). Thus Reçueçn lays claim to being one of the oldest democracies in the world.

The treaties defined much of Reçuecian history to come. Provisions were made to establish freedom of religion, in order to avoid another scenario similar to Carl III's persecution of his opponents. The treaties also gave Reçueçn an isolationist bent. The nation had been burned before, and wouldn't soon try to meddle in external affairs, especially when its composite nature made creating a foreign policy so difficult.

Reçueçn, then, has managed to avoid many of the crises of European history. It's darkest moment came when Napoleon invaded, proclaiming himself emperor (although he allowed Reçueçn's government to continue to function under his reign). The allied states have drawn closer together, although cultural differences remain among them; they don't even all speak the same language.

Reçueçian culture has also been shaped by its location, nestled in the center of the Alps. The difficulty of travel among mountain valleys ensured the cultural diversity of the nation and preserved local customs. Although rural communities did center around agriculture—especially dairy production—many Reçuecian were forced by the lack of arable land to find other work. This led to a culture of innovation that continues today: Reçueçn is now known for its luxury products and technological exports. This has additionally led to a focus on science and education. The relatively diverse nature of Reçueçn's culture means that some areas are culturally more time-oriented while others are more task-oriented, but this fusion has given the country a uniqueness, especially in art. Reçueçn, perhaps thanks to its inland, mountainous location, or the fact that it was never a colonial power, has seen little immigration or emigration. Recently, however, the diversity of language spoken in the country has made it attractive to refugees from other areas where those languages are spoken.

Visiting Reçueçn

Reçueçn is a small nation, but it's got a lot to see. If you're visiting for World Cup qualification, you may want to extend your stay to see the sights.

Travelling to and in Reçueçn
Most travelers to Reçueçn will fly into Reçueçn city. As the capital and largest city, it will definitely have the flight connection you need. Genève, the nation's second city, will also accommodate you in this regard, but all the games will be happening in Reçueçn. If you are travelling from a nearby country, arriving by rail is also a possibility, and many more Reçuecian cities have international rail connections than have international airports.

For travel within the country, taking the train is probably the way to go. Car rentals are fairly expensive, and many cities restrict downtown access to pedestrians and public transport. When travelling through the countryside, you will find that autoroutes have high tolls, and smaller roads are typically wind annoyingly through steep mountain terrain. However, there is an extensive rail and tunnel network, and taking the train is fairly cheap between most places in the nation. Bus routes also connect most larger towns. Within cities themselves, public transport is always very high quality and usually very affordable or in some cities, even free. A few bus lines are temporarily free to travel during the tournament, in a government-led effort to promote tourism and encourage visitors to explore the country beyond just the soccer matches.

What to See
Presumably if you're reading this, the main attraction that has brought you to Reçueçn is World Cup qualification. All the games will be played just a short bus ride away from Reçueçn International Airport at the Stade National in Reçueçn's inner suburbs. But if you want to see a bit more of the nation, consider taking a ride up to a cute alpine village and hiking along a mountain ridge to appreciate the amazing views we have to offer. Or take a swim in a mountain lake and cool off in the shadow of the peaks. If you really are looking to ditch the heat, check out the ice tunnels at the Écho glaciers. Or, if you come during the winter, you can hit the slopes—our skiing's the best in the world.

If the mountains aren't for you, consider visiting our world-famous cheese museum - free samples! Or visit the Genève Cathedral if the culture you're looking for isn't bacterial. Genève, Reçueçn, Zimmerich and other cities each have a beautiful downtown historic district worth the walking tour. Plenty of all kinds abound in and around each major city, whether you're looking for the four star experience, or just want to save a buck. If you'd rather have the personal, local touch, then we've still got you covered: a quick look online will reveal plenty of family-owned bed & breakfasts, as well as short-term rentals with people trying to make some money off the empty spare room one night or week at a time. Hostels are also very popular in Reçueçn, and are a great way to stay near the city center for a very low cost.

What'll you have for dinner? Reçueçn's food is what will make you want to come back for another visit. We love our cheeses, and our national specialty is raclette, melted cheese scraped over small potatoes, cornichons, and saucisson. Try it at a restaurant where each table is provided with its own small oven so each diner can melt their own. Another local specialty is tartiflette, essentially a casserole of potatoes, onions, and lardon (thick-cut bacon) served with a slab of, you guessed it, more melted cheese cooked right over it.

If rather than in a seat at a fine dining establishment, you find yourself in an alpine pasture hankering for a pique-nique, don't worry. Cheese is great for a basket-lunch too. Bring along a baguette and a saucisson, and you've got yourself a meal.

No meal in Reçueçn is complete without a glass of wine, and the local product is certainly worth the connoisseur's time. Reçuecian wine varies immensely depending on whether you're south, west, or north of the Alps, so try a few varieties and pick your favorite. If you need a pairing for your meal, it just so happens that every single person you meet on the street in the country is a self-proclaimed expert ready with helpful advice. Just don't stop them on their way home for dinner.

A nation is usually defined as “a large body of people united by common descent, history, culture, or language, inhabiting a particular country or territory.” A country is usually defined as “a nation with its own government, occupying a particular territory.” As such, contrary to popular misconception, Farfadillis is neither a country nor a nation. The reasons are twofold: first, to what extent governments exist in Farfadillis in the current day is a matter of fierce scholarly debate, and second, there are various ethnicities in Farfadillis that appear to have diverged culturally centuries ago, although it is impossible to know for sure because historical records are very hard to come by in Farfadillis.

So, having clarified what Farfadillis is not, it would be perhaps helpful to give information on what it is. Again, academics haven't ironed out the details and reached a consensus, but it is generally agreed that somewhere between eight and fifteen ethnostates, depending on who's counting and how, coexist in Farfadillis, with the most cited figure being ten nowadays. We will henceforth assume that this last figure is, indeed, correct. As such, Farfadillis could be considered a “Plurinational Entity” in the literal sense that, whatever it is, it is definitely an entity, and it certainly has more than one nation in it. For simplicity, when we say Farf we will mean any ethnicity from the island of Farfadillis.

Although members of any given Farf ethnicity would spit on you for even implying they are similar to any other given Farf ethnicity, the reality is that all but one Farf ethnicity share a lot of cultural common ground. In fact, their cultural common ground is particularly distinctive and makes it hard for Farf refugees to set each other apart in other countries, where their differences between this common ground and the local culture tend to be far starker. This cultural common ground includes, but is not limited to: a general disregard for authority and order (in any sense of the word), a seemingly unhealthy obsession with fire (although some of it is down to fire being a very important part of the various Farf religions), recklessness (risk-taking behavior, if you want to be more charitable), and a very inconvenient ability for distraction and destruction.

The various Farf ethnicities do differ considerably, however, and this is reflected in the neverending political friction between the existing ethnostates, with a horrible war having recently ended. This is despite the fact that, ironically, Farves display omniglottery: the ability to learn any language to a native level with minimal exposition. They are not psychics, so can't just know what words mean without having heard them, but they can visit another country and speak like a native within a month if they want to. Most older Farves speak their local language, as well as Ferdullaelan, because in the past Farfadillis was a country, and Ferdullaele, as the capital, was a cultural hegemon. Farves who live on the border between two given ethnostates generally speak both languages, in many cases having picked up the other language passively and unintentionally. This heavily facilitates migration between ethnostates, as neighboring ethnicities are generally not too different-looking, and as such a Farf from any given ethnicity could cross a border and pretend to have always been a member of the other side's ethnicity. This has the interesting consequence of making the borders between ethnostates cultural melting pots, mish-mashing the cultures of both ethnicities far more than outside Farfadillis.

Regarding the ten (or so) ethnostates we have been referring to, here we present brief descriptions of those generally agreed to be “the” ten ethnostates, in alphabetical order:

Farolera is a very populous country, and was the most economically powerful until recently losing a genocidal war of conquest. Their capacity for self-sustenance during the anarchy years was far greater than their traditional competition, the Ferdullaelans, and Banijan foreign aid helped them pull even more ahead, but they ended up biting off more than they could chew. Their territory is filled with lush forests and fertile farmland, which is actually an important part of the Faroleran identity. After Karinthians, Farolerans are generally considered to be the least Farf of the big Farf ethnicities, but they nonetheless display all of the aforementioned cultural common ground to a very noticeable degree. Farolerans speak Faroleran, which to many foreigners sounds almost exactly like “Spanish”.

Ferdullaele is the ethnostate with the most fertile land, which historically gave them an enormous headstart. However, their population was the one that failed the most to adapt to the total collapse of society eighteen years ago, and as such the ethnostate is, forgive us for making things even more complicated, not strictly an ethnostate: order (in the loosest sense), hasn't quite returned to Ferdullaele, even now, three decades after the collapse of Farfadillis the nation; it has instead devolved into various subcommunities exercising what would best be described as anarcho-capitalism and they, of course, hate each other too.

Fröndt is a very mountainous region, and most urban centers are in those mountains. The weather is extremely dry and cold, and the fauna is unforgiving. The Fröndti are typically more hard-working and level-headed than other Farves—or so they like to believe—and think of themselves as the reasonable, neutral people of the island. The rest of the island disagrees, as do most scholars. They've had trouble with the extremely harsh winters and the flying jellyfish lately, but they're a resilient bunch, so they've adapted to the times.

Induja lies at the center of Farfadillis. All of the beautiful Farf biomes clash in Induja, which makes it the most naturally beautiful of the ethnostates. By driving less than two hundred kilometers, you can go from jungle to desert to plains to mountains. Due to this, Indujans are actually quite secluded, despite bordering a whopping six other ethnicities. Indujans are traditionally... well, forgotten. To most Farves, they're just that place you have to go through to reach other places, though this attitude towards them has been relenting in recent years. As a nation, it has recently experienced repeated economic crashes because they were overtaken by a cryptocurrency cult, and being the center of the most unforgiving warfront in the recent war has not helped matters. A chunk of it has even become a new nation with zero resistance.

Karinthia is a recently-discovered tribe of about thirty thousand people who live in the Szoirsian desert. Some scientists believe they'd flown under the radar for millennia, somehow. They seem to speak a language with no similarities with any other Farf language. The Farves that have come into contact with them have found them very bizarre, for the most part because they seemed to pay attention to detail and have a commendable work ethic, coupled with a fleshed-out concept of respect and hierarchy. One thing about them is shared with all other ethnicities, however: they venerate fire.

Kruviš is the most populated ethnostate, though only by a slight margin and only if you're willing to trust a Farf census from twenty-five years ago. This nation is mostly one huge jungle, but closer to the coast the jungle gives way to civilization... to a degree. The fauna here is perhaps the most dangerous you'll find on the island, which is really saying something. Wasps that explode (like bombs) when stinging, spider-snakes, frogs whose poison literally sends you to hell, etc. The Kruviši are even more fiercely nationalistic than the other ethnicities but tend to direct their xenophobia more towards non-Farves than the other Farves, and are generally just not involved in petty border squabbles because the humongous jungle doesn't let them.

Rülândéá is historically the poorest and most abused of the nations; it's safe to say the Rulandese have never had it good. Rampant crime, extreme pollution, terrible quality of life, genocide(s) and a very long etc. The region weathered the days of anarchy much better than most other places by virtue of already being used to misery. Nowadays, the region is controlled by the Rulandese Revolutionary Army, and a fairly idiosyncratic version of libertarian socialism is currently in place, but it is very hard to get information from Rülândéá due to how hazardous it is to get there in the first place. They're the most well-known Farf ethnicity by far because they produce better footballers than the rest of the island combined, to the point that some of the best players in the Multiverse come from this relatively small, run-down nation. Their language is also notorious for having too many diacritics. Farves from the other ethnicities feel very insulted when it is insinuated that they, too, speak languages with an orthography filled to the brim with diacritics.

Szoirsia is essentially one huge desert with small oases of civilization. Szoirsians are used to the extreme heat and dehydration that comes with their surroundings. They resort to violence first and foremost to solve problems, perhaps even more so than the Rulandese. Szoirsians speak one of the most distinct languages of the island: Szoirsian. As a language, it seems to very transparently be a creole between two ancestral languages that no longer exist, which in turn—along with what little archaeological evidence can be found—makes the scholarly consensus be that there used to be two distinct ethnic groups in Szoirsia that, somehow, fused into one.

Tanazza is rather uninhabited, being almost exactly fifty percent jungle, fifty percent desert in terms of surface area. The inhabited parts generally lie at the edge of both biomes. Tanazzans have a notoriously hard time getting out of Tanazza because there are no roads out. The collapse of supply chains during the anarchy years hit the Tanazzans particularly hard as a result, and they are still reeling from it. They are, nonetheless, very resilient and, supposedly, very good-humored.

Lithico™ is a new corporate-state that is quickly turning into another ethnostate (but doesn't, technically, fit the definition yet). They are a corporation focused on selling the Lithium that the bats authochtonous to their territory shit. Their territory used to be part of Induja, but it was mostly bought off or peacefully integrated throughout the war against Farolera. Unlike other Farf nations, they do not yet have any tensions with other Farf ethnicities, Farolera excluded.

As a general rule, it is very hard to travel to Farfadillis. Things have gotten better recently, as some working airports have been constructed in Farolera by the Banijan and Euran relief efforts. However, travel within the country is still notoriously hazardous unless you're willing to spend a lot of money bribing the locals. Do not travel by boat if you can afford to: krakens abound on the Farf coast.

As is evident from just looking at any team picture, Živko towers above all others in this team. Literally. He's very tall. His positioning is, thankfully, almost perfect, because his bodyframe doesn't exactly lend itself to acrobatic saves. He knows how to make his big body count, though, and he's very good at dispatching crosses. To get past him, you'll likely want to make sure your shots are well-placed, since he does cover a lot of... area.

— Abelardo Couce — aLBa — Age 22 — Istria City FC
Abelardo plays like he's been cursed with the inability to improvise—the equivalent of a deadly sin for a Farf. Every one of his movements looks premeditated. Each and ever pass is predictable but perfectly weighted. He doesn't make runs you wouldn't expect him to, but he makes every good run you would expect him to. He'd rather keep the ball and pass it around than go for a probable wayward cross, and very rarely gets caught out. He plays, put another way, boring, efficient football. Due to his playstyle, his blinding pace might surprise you, at least if you're not familiar enough with Farves.

— Alexon Sirujano — aCBa — Age 24 — Crossroads
Alexon justifies his surname: it means surgeon. He's not tall, fast, or aggressive, but he can see the game clearly and extirpate danger with surgical precision. Rarely caught out of poisition and rarely seen diving recklessly into tackls; conseguiently rarely sent off. He's just not one for the cameras. On the ball, he's calm and technically good enough, plus he won't shy away from vertical passing, since he can execute. In the air, he's unassumingly effective. His jumping reach is great, as is his anticipation. Quite often catches considerably taller opponents off guard.

— Ügüs Hâx — aCBa — Age 23 — Hondo FC
A properly Rulandese center-back, Ügüs plays on constant edge. His split-second decisions are aggressive, risky, and very unpredictable. He'll dive into tackles that might very well have been the midfield's job, push forward with the ball instead of clearing it from the small box... you get the idea. Thing is, despite the hair-splitting mistakes, there's just no denying his sheer quality. Those moments in which he does what nobody else would think to do, they can define games.

— Éspéráns rue Cazade — aRBa — Age 26 — Chromatik
Ah, well, she, indeed, turned out to not be as good as her father. To be fair, it was an absurdly tall ask. However, despite being a right-back, she's not quite not her father. Éspéráns is a relentless right-back with astounding pace and a very well honed attacking instincts. Like every other Farf full-back in history, you might argue. Yes, but she's very much added a Faragó rue Cazade-like spin to her game (maybe she simply inherited it?): she times interceptions and tackles mid-sprint with astonishing precision, and very much has a striker's instinct when bombing forward, which can make her very difficult to defend against. To top it off, her long shots are very good. It's as if Faragó had been born a woman, a right-back, and measurably but not insultingly less talented.

#8 —

— Míkêl Lôçô — aCMa — Age 20 — Tihon
At just eighteen, Míkêl is already a central piece of the national team's tactical scheme. A central midfielder with, basically, no weaknesses to speak of. He defends well, he dictates the pace of the game, his first touch is immaculate... he breaks lines with astonishing composure. Farfadillis has not seen a center midfielder in this mold since Ígnîgo Çí Xôrí. Míkêl looks set to be somehow much better. He is, again, eighteen. For Farfadillis, after Wínrôuge, rue Cazade, Robineau and Êns, there may soon be Lôçô.

— Lêyêló Jáánsêlà — aTKa — Age 34 — Rülândéá Kôstä
A generational player, hands down. He's very intelligent (off the pitch too, much to everyone's surprise!), physically-imposing and completely tireless. He just... covers absurd ground, and his goalscoring record is very good given the amount of defensive duties placed on him. He can burst forward when he senses vulnerability, and when he does chances are the opposing team's in trouble. He's perhaps the player to turn to if you want to blast a team's build-up into smithereens. His instincts for scoring from the edge of the box and surprising aerial prowess are just bonuses.

— José Baliñas — aOMa — Age 24 — La + Querida
An attacking midfielder stripped of magic. He won't go for stepovers or nutmegs and he won't chip the keeper just to show off. But that's precisely what makes him brilliant: at La + Querida, they drilled efficiency into his core. It's the guiding principle through which he plays. He won't pass unless he ought to. Won't dribble unless he ought to. Won't shoot unless he ought to. But when he ought to, his heart doesn't skip a beat. Especially when it comes to striking: he can hit it with either foot, and the rockets he unleashes are what pushed Yuan Zilai to include him in the starting eleven.

— Donato Trigueros — aLWa — Age 21 — La Nueva Avenida
All raw pace and instinct, and as remarkably dense as they come. Seriously, he's very stupid. He can't (and won't) follow instructions. It's better that way. Extraordinary ball control and a knack for creating just enough separation for a good shot make him exhausting for any rightback unlucky enough to be tasked with marking him. This is a player that would be getting touted as generational in Farfadillis if Míkêl Lôçô didn't exist.

#3 —

— Qehu Daj Zhdihi — aRWa — Age 24 — Raynor City United
Attack-wise: the winger equivalent of a scimitar. Qehu's agile and unreadable: he can stop dead or explode past two with no apparent rhyme or reason. What makes him rise above most other wingers, however, is his distinct crossing style: his crosses are venomous, almost to a fault. For the most part, he goes for low, fast, and cruel. The kind of cross that's tailor-made to be badly deflected or cleared. He sports tremendous relentlessness and work rate, to boot. The fact that he's absolutely crucial to the team flies under the radar, somewhat.

#9 —

— Dénes Robineau — aSTa — Age 35 — Chromatik
All of the years that have passed since he burst into the scene have turned Dénes into a bit less of a diva. Thank fuck. His killer instinct, however? It's arguably sharper than it's ever been. He can't quite blow past defenders anymore, at least not with the same ease, but he can still catch any defense off guard with his positioning and game sense. As always, the ball gets to him and there's a good chance it winds up in the net somehow. He's still dominant in the air, still very strong and still cold-blooded in front of goal. More than ever, in fact. This will likely be his last World Cup, especially since he's now finally won a trophy with Farfadillis.

SUBSTITUTES

#12 —

— Régulo Bambino — aGKa — Age 28 — La Nueva Avenida
As is pretty evident to followers of Farf football, Régulo is looking at an illustrious international career spent in almost its entirety as a backup. It's not that Grujić is much better, but he's older, better goalkeepers will likely pop up over the year, Siloxtihuk is also likely to surpass him, and he also just doesn't have the necessary drive to snatch a starting spot. He's steady and unremarkable. Good hands, average reflexes. If all goes well, he'll one day be a cool trivia night question.

#23 —

— Siloxtihuk Iwaszkiewicz — aGKa — Age 25 — René Skaé
Abundantly aggressive, fearless, and annoyingly often way off his line. Siloxtihuk plays like he's a sweeper. He sometimes... forgets the 'keeper' part of sweeper keeper. Mistakes happen, but so do jaw-dropping saves. The gap between him and the other keepers is not large. It comes down to reliability. If he can be a little more consistent, the starting spot might very well be his soon. Squornshelan by birth, by the way. That's the reason for the strange, almost unspellable surname.

#14 —

— Mâát Süná — aLBa — Age 27 — Dí Maozöxê
A very strong tackler who, you will be very surprised to find out, is not shy about charging forward. Mâát can things reasonably tidy at the back, but that's not really why he's been called up. He's a really good crosser. His passing is okay, but for whatever reason it's his crossing that's just a complete outleir. If the team needs to force a result, chances are he will be brought on.

#15 —

— Tôsgo Türrângel — aCBa — Age 35 — Megabrantid SC
A massive fucking unit. Tôsgo's no longer a starter cause age comes for us all, but he remains very literally the most intimidating option off the bench. Too fast for someone this tall. Just a terrifying freak of nature. Very no no-nonsense as a defender. On the ball, he's... fine. Functional, let's say. Functional enough to defend a lead and not be a liability in possession. He's also an aerial menace, so he might be brought on in times of desperation.

#16 —

— Eloriján Mopiraja — aCBa — Age 33 — 1923 Esca
All things considered, Eloriján realistically starts for this team if Mytanar football hadn't gone belly-up. He helps bring calm, clarity, and structure to the back line... to a degree, of course. This is Farfadilis. He isn't exactly physical, but his defensive positioning is hard to match. He's got a few mean long passes in his repertoire, too, which he can break out at a moment's notice. Expect him to be brought on if a starter is out of form or injured, or if a particularly solid defender is needed at fullback, where he can also operate at full capacity nowadays.

#16 —

— Ernő Szesfi — aCBa — Age 21 — FC Städeli
Escaped Farfadillis at the age of ten, heading for Valanora. Came through Club Valanora's youthe system. This makes his playstyle have a more elegant, refined look to it. A physically-imposing center-back that is smart enough to play a suicidal high line and who is tidy on the ball. He lacks, somewhat, the pure killer instinct that most other players who wear la Vherderoja have. But sometimes you want your defenders to be sane men. Just sometimes, of course.

#17 — — Severino Gaesatae — aCBa — Age N/A — La Nueva Avenida
A swiss knife of sorts. Severino's a center-back by trade, but he can slot into defensive midfield without much friction. Relentless and very disciplined, far more than his messy Farfer teammates, probably because he was born and raised outside Farfadillis (Squornshelan again!). He doesn't overcommit because he's, simply put, not flashy. He's rather the type of player who quietly shuts things down and maybe keeps the ball being passed around. He can also play fullback if the situation calls for it. Severino Gaesatae was, very moderately regrettably, murdered right before the start of ARC 5. Investigations are ongoing two years later.

#18 —

— Dêmêtêr Podtêgândé — aRBa — Age 25 — Dí Maozöxê
As far as technique goes, Dêmêtêr is one of the most gifted players on the squad, which is high praise even when Farfadillis is looking weak. Unfortunately, he smokes like a chimney, drinks like a chimney that drinks a lot, and trains like a chimney that drinks a lot and trains half-assedly. When he's switched on, he'll look like he wouldn't be out of place in an all-time Farf eleven. When he's not, he's a pretty massive liability. There's surprisingly little middle ground. He'll bedazzle and disappoint in roughly equal measure, sometimes in the same half. Very much a break-out-in-case-of-emergency type of player.

#19 —

— Lajos Danzas — aDMa — Age 29 — René Skaé
An aggressive, no, scrap that, the most aggressive player on the squad. This is a defensive midfielder who doesn't hold back, even if he should and even if he must. Lajos closes space fast, tackles with lethal force, and is constantly looking to jolt the match into life with as vertical a pass as possible. His sense of timing is excellent, all things considered: he's often just good enough to justify the risks he takes. He plays like he believes midfield should be a war zone, so don't be surprised if he's the most used substitute, or even ends up starting, if the team makes a deep run.

#20 —

— Ludovic Buonöhieus — aCMa — Age 32 — René Skaé
A technically sound, intelligent central midfielder who does everything well. A serviceable option, no doubt, and he would be an okay starter in a world in which Míkêl Lôçô didn't exist. Ludovic can keep the ball moving along and make smart decisions under pressure, which is most of what you want from a center midfielder, so long as you're team's on possession. His main weakness is physical: he's not quick, strong, or particularly good at covering ground. He should not be on the pitch if verticality is what Farfadillis wants or needs.

#21 —

— Nerianeknoé Ócandefé — aTKa — Age 24 — Ausharmuj Marusi
Apparently, publicly holding some of the most repulsive political opinions one can hold in Farfadillis won't stop you from getting called up if you look like the heir apparent to Lêyêló Jáánsêlà. More refined in possession than the Rulandese (he would insist this has ethnic implications) but not as mindblowingly hard-working (he would insist this hasn't ethnic implications). Still, he's a natural takilante with all that that implies: he will be very disruptive to teams building up from the back, and a surprising goal threat at key junctures.

#22 —

— Fulzhohu We Xi — aOMa — Age 24 — Mâ Âlâmëómë
A curious case, Fulzhohu. A more creative playmaker than Baliñas by most measures: more daring, more imaginative, more polished. Alas, also less tidy, less efficient, less consistent and, most crucially, much less of a goal threat. He's not developed as was initially expected, whereas Baliñas was a no-namer until two years ago. Football comes at you fast.

#13 —

— Jôs Sürréo — aLWa — Age 36 — Dí Maozöxê
A pretty sharp decline, Jôs', if you consider what his peak was. Still, the fact he's declined doesn't mean he's not still good enough to start. He can still dribble in tight spaces and pick out very good passes. Most crucially for whatever minutes he might get, over a decade playing together has turned him into, pretty much, the one and only player who genuinely has chemistry up front with the ball-hog that is Dénes Robineau. Still, a legend of the game who can still do a lot of damage on a good day.

#24 —

— Valën Pídí — aRWa — Age 29 — 1896 Ebor
Alongside Mopiraja, one of the biggest victims of Mytanar football's fall from grace. Valën is a one-on-one specialist, probably direct and technically proficient wingers Farfadillis has produced in decades (which means a lot). His role now is to come off the bench and terrorize any leftbacks that are deemed to be weak links. Earning his starting spot back is looking harder by the day, what with Qehu being five years younger and, for anyone with good eyes, a much more dangerous player despite a seemingly mundane skillset.

#25 —

— Heliodoro Bochas — aSTa — Age 28 — Mar Sara FC
A late bloomer who earned his spot the hard way. Heliodoro never looked like a future international, but consistent goalscoring in Valanora will change anyone's fortune. An optimista del gol, he's always on the look-out for rebounds and half-chances. His pace helps him find space, but he's not of much use outside the box. Bring chaos to him and he'll deliver, however. Unlikely to ever be brought on for a healthy Robineau, but might still join him in attack if goals are desperately needed.

#26 —

— Edmün Léloj — aSTa — Age 25 — Mâ Âlâmëómë
A very technically gifted striker who flies like a butterfly and, unfortunately, stings like one too. Edmün excels at linking up play, attacking space, and posing a massive aerial threat. He does not, by contrast, excel at actually putting the ball in the net with his feet. Not a superstar, but very clearly not just depth either: he's been going from strength to strength for years now, and he'd very much be starting by now if Robineau had slowed down at all.

The colossal stadium is situated in the ex-capital of what used to be the country of Farfadillis, Ferdullaele. It used to have a whopping hundred thousand seats, but ever since the whole anarchy situation, the northeastern stand has been inexplicably on fire, so that's one-fourth of the seats gone, plus those too close to the fire to be considered safe by Farf standards. And yes, those exist. Nobody can quite explain how the stand has managed to continue burning for about eighteen years. Pagan religions are common in Farfadillis, and they mostly venerate fire, so if you ask around you'll likely get some magical explanations. We are not saying the God of Fire is raining its wrath upon Ferdullaele, but we are saying that stand should've stopped burning long ago. Or, at least, the fire should've propagated to the other stands. We are also saying that if La Fantás were a map of Farfadillis, it would be Ferdullaele that is burning, being the most northeastern ethnostate. Again, speculation, but worth pointing out. We've gone on a tangent now. Anyway, huge stadium, fire, don't get burned, don't involve yourself with the surrounding ethnic tension or almost total breakdown of civil society.

Qusmo will host landmark World Cup 100, but will it even compete in it?

World Cup 97 Qualifying would be Qusmo’s second Qualifying campaign since returning to international football following the Reforms. It would be manager Tlanx-Nulzk Hal’s second cycle as well. Unfortunately, it would also be their last. The two-time Galactico Manager of the Season was let go in advance of Qusmo’s first-ever home World Cup, the ninety-eighth edition of the tournament. Qusmo qualified automatically as hosts, but Vulav-Wanar Tla led the team the entire cycle, until being sacked in the aftermath of a group stage elimination. The federation brought in Intov-Helek Duk as manager for World Cup 99 Qualifying, and they didn’t even manage to get a single match in charge of the team beyond Qualifying before getting the sack.

Now, Ilinx-Kepex Zev has been hired as Qusmo’s manager, and they’ll make their debut in WCC competition in World Cup 100 Qualifying. They are Qusmo’s fourth manager in four cycles. One of Qusmo’s prior managers in that time was the only person to win Galactico Manager of the Season as both a club manager and a national team manager. Another of Qusmo’s prior managers in that time took over an unranked national team mid-tournament, won seven consecutive elimination games, and won a regional championship. Ilinx-Kepex was a very good player who has won some trophies over a few seasons managing their old club in Qusmo’s domestic league, but they have not actually managed to win the league yet. They also decided to timeshare as a national team and club manager, rather than committing full-time to overseeing the Qusma national team.

Oh, and Qusmo will co-host World Cup 100 as well. But they have not received an automatic place in the tournament, so they’ll have to successfully qualify — either by winning their Qualifying group or by finishing second and then winning a single-match playoff — in order to gain the right to participate. Qusmo is ranked fifty-eighth in the world, and they are a lower-tier pot two team in the draw. They have not qualified for a World Cup on sporting merit since the eighty-third edition of the tournament, before the Reforms, and they failed to qualify either for the World Cup or even the Cup of Harmony last cycle. Unless Ilinx-Kepex can somehow help right the ship and finally find the secret to unlocking the potential of Qusma football on the world stage, Qusmo will become the very first World Cup host nation to fail to qualify for its own tournament, on the milestone occasion of the one hundredth edition of the most popular tournament in the history of the Multiverse.

Oh, and Fuzpon Qusma, the governing body of football in Qusmo, has announced it wants to adopt the Caldera Sun as the official nickname for the Qusma national team, so there’s that too.

It’s a new dawn for Qusma football. It’s a new dawn for Qusmo. Glory to Qusmo, glory to Qusmi’y.

Goalkeepers
Alfan-Dynom Jan is a daring, sweeping 23-year-old goalkeeper from Lavorn, with a relaxed personality.

Kepex-Cheng Yan is a reflexive, shot-stopping 29-year-old goalkeeper, with a thoughtful personality. Originally born in Qanz to Qusma and Yue parents, they and their family fled the country when they were young during the Reforms, before eventually being forced to flee again to Nyowani Kitara during the Yue Civil War. Finally, the Nyowani Kitara Conflict forced their family to flee as refugees once again, this time returning to Yuezhou. They were hailed as the answer to Qusmo’s longstanding goalkeeper question when they first accepted a call-up for Qusmo, but Ilinx-Kepex shockingly dropped the star player and humanitarian from Qusmo’s squad entirely for Copa Rushmori XLIX, stating they would prefer Kepex-Cheng to challenge themself in an IFCF league. The manager got their wish, as they transferred to Qastyr — very conveniently for the manager in joint control of that club and the national team, it must be said — and were once again called up for the team.

Helek-Tlanx Gor is a reflexive, shot-stopping 22-year-old goalkeeper from Qanz, with a caring personality. They were one of the many Qastyr players to be selected to the national team roster for Copa Rushmori XLIX — after all, their club manager is now their national team manager — but as the third-choice goalkeeper, they were the only player on Qusmo's roster not to play at the tournament. They’re likely to at least start Qualifying as still the team’s third choice between the posts.

Center backs
Vralx-Lucex Mal is a tidy, progressive 23-year-old left-sided centre back from Tracam, with a calm personality. They have been instrumental in their relatively small hometown club’s remarkable successes over the past few seasons, particularly in knockout competitions, and they’ve secured a transfer to the top league in the Multiverse.

Their new partner in the center of their club defense is Prant-Culak Guv, who also just earned a transfer to the Red League from a mid-size Qusma team. Prant-Culak is a quick, well-positioned 26-year-old right-sided centre back from Wexe, with a loving personality. They were the top Qusma footballing prospect of their year when they turned pro, and they've been near the top of the domestic game ever since, before branching out their wings.

Balax-Winad Abe is a tireless, end-to-end 23-year-old left back from Atlem, with a laid-back personality. Anything you ask Balax-Winad to do, they'll do it, and they’ve become a favorite of Ilinx-Kepex Zev both for Qastyr & the Qusma national team.

Vralx-Ilinx Tla is a bombing, crossing 25-year-old right back from Samedin, with a calm personality. They were one of the top prospects in Qusma football, and they did get named to the national team, but the truth is that they haven't really quite found the right fit with Ilinx-Kepex’s style of play. If the game state or opponent-specific tactics allow, however, they can showcase their strengths: aggressive, attacking, and always seeking crosses into the box.

Midfielders
Belaj-Trenj Marko may be a defensive midfielder by trade, but they’re a deep-lying distributor by heart. They’re extremely comfortable with the ball at their feet and love to play forward.

Similarly, although Kynda-Tylyr Ezi now plays as a defensive midfielder for their club, they started their career as a center midfielder and have all the technical skills to show for it, which are highly coveted by national team manager Ilinx-Kepex Zev, a former star at the position themself.

Nulzk-Vlont Tla is a dynamo, box-to-box 26-year-old central midfielder from Qanz, with a creative personality. They're a graduate of the academy of Qastyr, famed for its work with central midfielders in particular, but they were forced out by the glut of talent the team had at that position. They still proved instrumental in Trosoc’s cup successes in recent seasons, and despite the fact that seven Qastyr players made it onto the national team roster, Nulzk-Vlont is one of only three from Qusmo’s domestic league who play at a club that doesn’t happen to be managed by Ilinx-Kepex Zev. They’re also the only player on Qusmo’s roster to be receiving their very first career callup for the national team.

Xalan-Yunal Can is a fearless, marauding 17-year-old central midfielder from Qanz, with a passionate personality.

Trenj-Wulat Fox is a safe, ball-recycling 19-year-old central midfielder from Qanz, with an assertive personality.

Wingers
Nalet-Kresp Saf is a trustworthy, back-tracking 27-year-old left winger from Xyn, with an elitist personality. They may not be the easiest to get along with, but they get the job done, and, ironically, they’re not afraid of doing the dirty work when they're on the pitch. That can help knit a good side together, and that’s something that secured a League of the Single Sun-record three million-dollar transfer to the top-ranked league in the Multiverse, as well as a spot on Qusmo’s national team roster.

Belaj-Rilan Dar isn’t a first-choice starter for their club, which manager Ilinx-Kepex Zev frowns upon. However, they are a super sub who does start on occasion in one of the toughest leagues in the world. More importantly, they’re used to playing in massive moments, including in a Cup Winners’ Cup final, and they have scored a Cup Winners’ Cup semifinal goal. Ilinx-Kepex will hope that they can replicate their form in the biggest moments of Qusmo’s Qualifying campaign, as well.

A striker originally, Culzk-Zelez was moved out to the wing for their national team to accomodate more established options, & they became a no-doubt, written-in-pen member of every sensible Qusmo starting XI by being a prolific goalscoring force on the right — until they were unceremoniously dropped from Qusmo's Copa Rushmori XLIX roster by a new national team manager. Culak-Zelez sought a new club in response to new Qusma national team manager Ilinx-Kepex's demand that players challenge themselves in IFCF-active leagues in order to receive continued call-ups for the national team. They ended up on the club roster of Ilinx-Kepex Zev themself. Funny how that works out.

Sevet-Zorno Faz is a captain and star for the Qusma exile team in the Squornshelan Superleague, one of the toughest leagues in the entire Multiverse, who has stuck with their club with loyalty through thick and thin.

Strikers
Helek-Pertz Zev is an attacking midfielder by trade, but their abilities on the ball and sometimes even moving back into midfield, opening up spaces for others to run into, come highly prized in manager Ilinx-Kepex Zev’s system.

Sevet-Matez Fox is perhaps the best pure striker Qusmo has, despite their advancing years, and will be an excellent change of pace depending on opponent, tactics, and game state.

Kal Dynom is a younger, more energetic option off the bench if needed, who also coincidentally happened to move to Qastyr ahead of a return to the national team.

Ilinx-Kepex has laid out a very clear vision for how their football teams play, which is clearly influenced by their own playing career as a do-it-all, box-to-box midfielder. They seem to be starting to get results with the system at Qastyr, and they’ve started to implement it with the national team as well. Ilinx-Kepex wants their club to dominate possession of the ball, but even more than that, they want their team to be interconnected in all facets of the game. Wingers should have the freedom to swap their sides of the pitch. Defenders should be ready to advance and play the ball. Strikers should be able to drop into midfield, and teammates should be able to dart upfield to reoccupy the vacated space. Midfielders should be everywhere. After all, that’s essentially what Zevball is: there should effectively be ten, maybe even eleven, central midfielders on the pitch.

Kits

The official kit supplier of the Qusma national team is the Starblaydian-based enterprise ediraf. Though many expected Fuzpon Qusma to select uni·q to win the new Qusma national team contract, the federation has opted to equip the team in the same kit in which they competed in World Cups 82 and 83, as a link to Qusma footballing heritage.

Culture

Gender: All people of full Qusma descent are nonbinary and androgynous and use they/them pronouns. Some male or female Qusmi’y do exist, but they are generally children of multinational heritage.
Names: For those with traditional Qusma names, family names are followed by given names.
Nomenclature: Qusmo refers to the country of Qusmo itself, Qusma is an adjective for something that is from or of Qusmo, a Qusmi is a person who is Qusma, Qusmi’y are a group of more than one Qusmi, Qusmi Bez is the title of the leader of Qusmo, and Qusmu is the native language of most Qusmi’y.

Competitive record

Qusmo debuted in World Cup 80 Qualifying and qualified for World Cups 82 and 83, but due to the Reforms, it had not played any more recent fixtures until the ninety-sixth World Cup cycle. It contested Cups of Harmony 88 and 89 before hosting World Cup 98, in which it was eliminated in the group phase, and failing to qualify for either the World Cup or the Cup of Harmony last cycle. Qusmo had advanced out of the group stage in each of the first six tournaments it had played in, but a quarterfinals run in Cup of Harmony 88 represents Qusmo’s only trip past the knockout rounds of a tournament since the Reforms — a period of time that encompasses four Copas Rushmori, two Cups of Harmony, one home World Cup, and one cycle in which Qusmo didn’t even manage to make it to any WCC tournament group stage in the first place.

World Cup 99 Qualifying was Qusmo’s worst by points, points per match, and wins since their debut cycle as an unranked nation in World Cup 80 Qualifying. The manager who oversaw that performance was sacked, and Ilinx-Kepex Zev was appointed in their stead. Qusmo did put together a much more respectable performance under their leadership at Copa Rushmori XLIX, recording as many wins and points in that tournament as they had in the previous three combined. However, that still wasn’t enough to advance to the knockout rounds.

Stadium

All of Qusmo’s home World Cup Qualifying matches will be played at Qusmo’s national stadium: Mastad Qusma. Located in Qanz, Mastad Qusma has a capacity of 80 000 people.

Qanz is not just Qusmo’s largest city and capital. It is the political, economic, geographic, historic, cultural, and mythological heart of the nation and of its people. Qanz proper was originally constructed on an island in the caldera lake of a massive, extinct supervolcano. Qusmi’y from all across the country take immense pride in their legacy as a people which emerged from the Caldera, but many also wish that Qanz didn’t dominate the nation’s culture and the priorities of its governance.

In keeping with the spirit of Qanz itself, Mastad Qusma is the largest and most historic stadium in the country, and it is the home of its national team. Fuzpon Qusma has dispensed of their former tradition to allow the national team to tour around different cities and venues around the country in order to maximize a unique home advantage for Qusma teams: at nearly 3000 metres above sea level, Qanz’s precipitous altitude may have a noticeable effect on the ball’s flight or players’ lungs, particularly without sufficient acclimation. No club team is a tenant of the stadium, to help make it a truly neutral, unifying ground for the whole nation. The stadium, therefore, relies primarily on concerts and other special events to generate revenue when not hosting national team matches or domestic finals.

Mastad Qusma has previously hosted the finals of all Fuzpon Qusma and some Federation of the Single Sun domestic cups, as well as the finals of UICA Youth Cup 24, UICA Series B Champions’ Cup 68, FSS Copa del Ganso 2, CRF Copa de Campeones 45, and CRF Copa Rushmori XXXII. It hosted five matches at World Cup 98, including Qusmo’s opening match, one of the hexadecifinals, and the Crpostran–Edsmontik semifinal. It will also host several matches for the upcoming World Cup 100, the tournament at the culmination of the current Qualifying process. It has been outfitted with plenty of luxury suites and amenities for celebrities, VIPs, and deep-pocketed individuals as a result of this fairly regular stream of high-profile events.

This information applies only during World Cup Qualifying. Although Qusmo is a World Cup host nation, it will almost certainly not play exclusively in Qanz over the duration of the tournament proper if the team does manage to qualify for it. Fuzpon Qusma will defer to the official schedule assembled by the tournament organizing committee to determine Qusmo’s fixture venues should they qualify for World Cup 100.

Nikolai Kruul Jensen has led Partisan Sjoedrhavn out of a difficult rebuild back into the light, using a three at the back that he has experimented with in the youth outfit. Now, he brings similar tactics to Savojarna, demanding his players pressure the opponent and try to win the ball back in midfield. Kruul Jensen has managed to bring together an underperforming Partisan and showed in the SFS that he is adept at managing the different egos and playstyles in a team with expectations, but it remains to be seen whether he can form a stable Savojarna after a lengthy absence from the international scene. He is joined on the bench by a legend of the Savojar game: Former Northlights playmaker and captain, and Partisan Sjoedrhavn one-club-man and legend, Morten Poulsen followed his mentor and former coach Kruul Jensen to the national team. The duo survived the SFFB’s ban from the international game, and were re-hired to lead the Northlights once again.

Jonas Hilde has been mightily unlucky in his national team career. Having served as number two in waiting behind Partisan legend Aleksandra Virulainen first and then CASK’s Olga Valujev second, he was set up to take over the Northlights goal right as the SFFB copped its three year suspension from international play. Now, he is already late in his career but more motivated than ever, ready to take on the world with his smart positioning and strong play with the ball on his foot. Measuring 196 cm, he isn’t the quickest, but can leverage his long arms for great shot-stopper moments.
Behind him, it’s an open race for the number two slot between Andrei Hattanen - U21 keeper at the time of the suspension, and starting goalie for Dynamo - and Ilja Lysenko, Lok’s last man coming off a strong season with the Jarnstad side.

The name standing out the most here is a name from the pre-ban days: Savojarna captain Kenneth Röysveit. Röysveit, who played at AFC Treason before the end of Nephara’s Zenith and then returned to CASK Thorsborg. Used to playing at the highest possible level, he remains a leader. His physical presence is usually coupled with players who are more comfortable with the ball on their foot. Standing out here are Hedvig Riksdal, the only other player with international experience, as well as Partisan defensive leader Sören Kjaeresund. Nazarenko mainly backs up Röysveit’s role, whereas Alvar Karlsson is a talent from Lok Jarnstad’s defensively minded youth program.
On the wingback positions, Savojarna have a talented and clean, balanced option in Odgeir Halldorsson of Dynamo Sjoedrhavn, and a more offensively minded one in Mitrjusjkin. Expect Odgeir to start against more offensively strong teams, and Mitrjusjkin or even a left midfielder against defensive opponents. On the right, Jekaterina Ivanov is a mainstay of the SFS who has been long expected to move to a top team, but stayed with her youth club over the years. She is expected to start for the most part, with Virtanen being an experienced shutdown option.

Knut Bö is the bane of every creative midfielder playing against Lok Jarnstad. Known as “the bulldog”, he runs after every opponent he can see and won’t let go until he has the ball or his opponent is on the ground. Despite his comparatively short stature at only 173 cm, he is a relentles fighter and can easily go a full 90 minutes at full speed. Alongside him, Anton Vitol and Elina Vantanen both provide ball carrying and distributing options, with Partisan playmaker Kjetil Holm being the only primarily creative central midfielder in the lineup. Rjurik Olsson is a backup to Bö and provides a physical addition, but is primarily here to collect experience at the international level.

On the left side, Savojarna will likely rely primarily on Arkadi Kornilov, the creative dynamo of Partisan. Running up and down the left side, he is known to collect balls deep in the midfield or even on a wingback position, and good at finding clever passes to his colleagues; scoring has never been his strongest suit. Behind him, young breakout talent Arnstein Greidshov provides an option for that. A player who can shoot well with both feet and whose raw speed and talent is enormous, Greidshov has emerged as a constant threat, but sometimes struggled with finding his place in a system. On the right side, Helene Falk is a mainstay of this side. The Admiral Storevik winger impresses with very accurate crosses and passes, and a good backtracking record. She, too, has a more offensive alternative in Björn Dageby, who can play as a striker in a pinch.
Talking of the strikers, My Mäkelä has been breaking into the national team as a young talent at the time of the ban. Now, the speedy Lokomotive forward is back as a more well-rounded player, not only able to use her pace to beat defenders but having added a clinical finish to her game as well. Partisan’s Tarje Eggeshöv can add some brawn to the equation. Playing the physical target man to a hanging striker in his club, the Partisan forward has the skills to win balls and play a more defensive role as well as the ability to punch through a tenacious defence.

Sajnur National Football Team: World Cup 97 Qualifying

National Stadium

The National Stadium is the largest stadium in Sajnur, with a capacity of 102,000 people. Located in the capital city of Javoser, home to more than 12.5 million people, it is the primary arena for big sporting events in the country, hosting a semi-final and most finals of Sajnur’s FA Cup, and several finals of the Tarvolan League, tarvolan being a code of football indigenous to Sajnur and traditionally Sajnur’s biggest sport. It has also hosted the biggest of Sajnur’s concerts and the inaugurations of two Presidents.

Built in 1952 and renovated in 2015, the stadium has a retractable roof, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and affordable food and drink options to provide a comfortable experience for all fans while the stadium has been designed to allow fans to produce a raucous atmosphere befitting of large sporting events. The stadium is easily accessible by public transport, and has thousands of parking spaces for those who choose to arrive in their own vehicles.

Niurka Stadium

Home of FK Khadur, arguably Sajnur’s biggest football club, Niurka Stadium is located in the Khadur area of Ciarkhan, a bustling metropolis of 4.6 million people that serves as Laghia’s state capital. Laghia was a territory acquired by Sajnur in a war stretching from 1982 to 1996, and it is the Laghian people that popularised football in Sajnur. As a result, the province has eight of Sajnur’s 32 professional football clubs despite having only 1/8 of the country’s population, and Niurka Stadium hosts the other semi-final and some finals of Sajnur’s FA Cup.

Queen Haqla Stadium is a 60,000 seat stadium near the centre of Roskjepa, the capital of Delta state and, with 6.7 million people, the second largest in Sajnur. Home to Rivers FC, the stadium is a regular venue for intimidating displays from Rivers fans, with flares, aggressive chanting, and large banners being a common sight, especially in derbies between Rivers and cross-town rivals Stormers FC.

The stadium was built in 1960 and renovated in 2016, and has all the amenities of the National and Niurka stadiums, while being a prominent sight on the Jagaroi River. As such, along with bus and train, the stadium is also accessible by the Jagaroi River’s ferry. However, like in Ciarkhan, access by car may be difficult. Queen Haqla, for whom the stadium is named, reigned over Sajnur from 681 to her death in 727.

Siyaka Island Stadium

Siyaka Island Stadium is the largest stadium in the Asulian states, with 66,000 people able to fit within its confines. Located in the outskirts of Tawqush, a city of about 5.4 million serving as the capital of Archipelago state, the stadium is the home of FC Mazigh, the foremost football club in the Asulian states. Fans on Siyaka Island often bring instruments to matches, ranging from the arghul to large drums to even accordions, posing both as support to those they like and a distraction for those who they wish to lose.

The stadium is the newest of the four national stadiums, being built in 2017 on what was the Mujar port before it was bombed by the Sajnuran navy during a war that stretched from 1990-2003. The stadium is easily accessible by both car and public transport, and with the New Mujar port being built as part of the stadium development, coastal and island hopping ferries can also stop right outside the stadium.

Football isn't a big thing in Ranoria (well, this version anyway) and frankly no one is expecting a huge run from this team. However, after five straight winning World Cup qualifying stages and a knockout appearance in the 83rd Cup of Harmony, we know this team can compete on the world stage, even if not as one of the tougher squads in the competition.

It was a known fact that World Cup 90 was the last shot for the original crew to be the primary group carrying this team to a World Cup Proper, and the time between Cups has seen several retirements and more players starting to lose a step. Barry Chlorid, in particular, was a gut-punch after the long-time striker has retired from soccer, going back to gridiron kicking as his sole focus. And really, it looked like World Cup 92 might be this team's last chance period. Funding was pulled after a dominant 9-2-0 start collapsed into a 2-3-4 finish that saw this team fall just outside making it to the playoffs.

Anyway, the team is back expecting to be ~~cannon fodder~~ a contender with so many players coming in from the renowned Outbox League and a few filler guys from Ranoria’s own NAAF.

3-4-1-2 – IN POSSESSION
In possession the 3-5-2 becomes almost a 3-2-5 with the wing-backs pushing high up the pitch to operate in what would almost be traditional winger positions. They are tasked with staying wide to provide the midfielders with options out on the flank, this should also keep the opposition players stretched across the pitch in their defensive shape which would open up spaces in more central areas. The two strikers will rotate in dropping in between the opposition defence and midfield whilst the left-sided central midfielder will look to push into spaces that are vacated by opposition defenders. This is done in this way because the striker who drops deep may drag an opposition defender into a midfield area and leave space for the left-sided central midfielder to run into. The central midfielders will be tasked with recycling possession and trying to pick passes from the middle of the pitch, they will also make late runs into the penalty area to try and pick up any loose balls around the edge of the box. The three central defenders will push high up to the halfway line to squeeze the pitch and keep opposition forwards far away from the goal in case of a loss of possession. Defenders that are comfortable in possession will be allowed freedom to dribble forward if the opposition stand-off them as this could make it easier to progress the ball and could commit opposition defenders which would create space for other players.

3-5-2 – OUT OF POSSESSION
If the ball is lost, both wing-backs will work hard to immediately get back into defensive positions, almost forming a back five with the three central defenders. Both strikers will work hard to press opposition players, willing to give away fouls to prevent the opposition from counter-attacking at speed. Whoever plays as the left-sided central midfielder midfielder may join in with this pressing but against strong opposition they may also drop deep to form a midfield three with the other pair of central midfielders to try and stiffen up the centre of the pitch. Towards the halfway line both the central midfielders will press and try to push the opponent into wider areas with the aim being to either trap them on the sideline or to encourage an aimless pass from the wide position into the middle of the pitch where there are more players. If the opposition manage to counter quickly then the wide central defenders will look to engage any players breaking down the sides of the pitch whilst the man in the middle of the three will shift across to cover them. The central midfielders will also tend to drop very quickly leaving only the attacking midfielder and strikers higher up the pitch.

After a pair of absolute legends in Elaine Ashdown and Lev Repin, the YFA has opted for a third consecutive player who once held their national team together for over a decade. Former Ararat and Yuezhou center-back Yuan Mingrong made his coaching debut with the national team under his mentor Repin, focusing on the defense and on the locker-room, both important jobs with a foreign and somewhat attack-minded coach. The latter half of Repin's tenure saw Yuan lined up as the heir apparent, growing into his own as a stern disciplinarian and a quick, if not innovative, tactical study. Now, he makes his managerial debut at the helm of a team with World Cup ambitions. What could go wrong?

The up-and-coming Chen Haixuan earned the job after managing Beian Rovers from lower midtable to the heady heights of...also lower midtable. He's at least a likeable guy who should help communicate Repin's vision and keep things friendly in the dressing room, and will serve as a valuable bridge between the Ashdown and Repin administrations.

Known for her distribution as well as her heroics outside of the penalty box, Xu's family escaped to Tumbra at the outbreak of the Yue Civil War, but the young, flashy goalkeeper is now back. She was expected to present a long-term challenge to Zhao Deliang's starting spot, but Zhao's ascension into a higher level, combined with the emergence of a number of other young goalkeepers, threw her future with the national team into question despite steady success at the club level. Continued strong play in Tumbra has, for now, kept her as the steady #2 to Zhao.

#79 - GK - Timofei TRISCHUK-HUANG - 29 - Z'ai'ai (CMT)
The son of former South Newlandian NT captain Mikhail Trischuk, Trischuk-Huang is a lanky, athletic shot-stopper with flashes of passing talent. Calling him up early ensured the Newlandians wouldn't get him for the Campionato, but he's now a solid starter abroad and a genuine threat to take one of the spots on the World Cup Proper roster.

CENTER-BACKS

#36 - CB - ZHAO Fan (f) (赵範) - 30 - Mazinaw Vanorian (KSK)
Excellent on-ball skills for a defender, with her passing especially solid, but can be overly rash to tackle. Still, despite her aggression, she's rapidly grown into a key piece for the surprise Tumbran champions before moving to Kelssek, and she's quickly grown into an integral part of the Yue defense.

#27 - CB - JI Wenwei (纪文薇) - 28 - Myana (CMT)
A young but surprisingly polished center-back who anchored Royals' title-winning defense before heading abroad, Ji has well-honed defensive instincts and positioning. There are concerns that he's a high-floor, low-ceiling prospect who lacks the athleticism needed to become a world-class defender, but he's managed to overcome his relative slow-footedness with smart tackling and elite situational awareness.

#44 - RCB/RB - Jason Yuanjunsson REN - 28 - CF Outineau (KSK)
A sturdy, hard-working right-back known for his tactical fouls. Theoretically has the ball skills and tools to be useful on the attack, but hasn't quite put them together. Has taken the number 44, the first Yueren to ever do so on the national team, after his initial request to take #4 was flatly denied by the YFA.

#05 - CB - Esekíel Zeminsson YAO (姚真君) - 30 - Ararat Severyan (MYT)
While he's not quite a BFG, Esekíel Yao is still quite physically imposing, and compensates for average speed with strong defensive instincts, good short-range passing, and the ability to perform under pressure. Does have a prospenity to foul in dangerous areas and overrate his own passing instincts, but one can hope that'll go away in time. Idolized Yuan Mingrong growing up, and was given Yuan's #5 after playing by his side for two seasons at Ararat.

#30 - CB - Paris HUANG (f) - 26 - Century Mertagne (MRT)
A smooth operator across any defensive position, the Mertagnian dual-national finally makes her Dragons debut after an extended pressure campaign from the YFA. Huang's greatest asset is her versatility, both in position and in playstyle, making her the ideal defensive super-sub.

#26 - CB - Aldar Yuansson GUO - 27 - Bay City United (KYP)
Half-Yue but still quite the BFG, with a strong intuitive ability to get in the right place at the right time. Leveraged a strong season with Korsbach to join half-countryman Chen Huikang in the Peninsulae.

FULLBACKS

#02 - LB - Gía Ansdottír LIN (f) (林积仁) - 28 - Tekstil (MYT)
A very athletic, talented young fullback, but one with much stronger defensive than attacking instincts. Her leadership and sense of positioning could make her future club captain material, but she'll need to cut down on fouls and develop a crossing game to reach her full potential. Has been through a lot in her young career, from double-relegation as a teenager in Ko-oren to blatant sexism in the Kytler Peninsulae, but enjoyed a breakout campaign in Mytanija.

#13 - RB/RWB - Songwei MILOSEVIC (米松伟) - 29 - Felsenkirchen 1879 (STL)
Born to Mytanar steelworker parents in Beian, Milosevic is industrious off the field but made waves with a high-flying, attack-minded take on the rightback position. While still raw, his incredible endurance and strong ball skills could make him a great modern fullback. Since taking over from the retiring Dong Xiaowang, he's entrenched himself as a premier starting right-back who - despite Kara Mingsdottír Zhang's plaudits - might quietly be the team's best player.

An energetic, pacy wingback who thrived as a crosser in Olympic Nangang's three-at-the-back system, before excelling both as a winger and as a fullback in the proving grounds of Kelssek, where he earned consideration for Young Player of the Year with Torbay Thunder. Now in the S-FPL, the only remaining questions around his game are how well it will age.

#38 - RB/RW - LI Xiangyu - 32 - Nangang Royals
A pacy fullback whose penchant for pushing forwards with the ball helped add a new dimension to Royals' title-winning attack. Somewhat weaker defensively, but will present a nice change of pace from the more methodical Yuanjunsson Ren.

#19 - CAM/CM/RB - Maximillian WEN - 28 - Miruan City FC (TKT)
A swiss-army-knife of a player that has quickly endeared himself to his team's fans and Elaine Ashdown alike. Wen's biggest strengths are his versatility and tenacity. But he's far from a high-motor, low-skill player, having shown advanced playmaking talent in Tikariot.

#29 - CDM/CM - ZHAXI Jianzan (f) (扎喜坚赞) - 33 - Serrapince (TMB)
A hard-nosed defensive midfielder who will do anything on the field to win - and who has the athletic ability and field vision, if not a full suite of on-ball tools, to make it happen. Not related to Zhaxi Nanlei.

#17 - CM - DONG Yichun (f) (董依纯) - 28 - Kirkenes (KSK)
A metronomic presence in midfield from a young age, with some flashes of creativity. Has quietly become one of the best Yue midfielders in the world after a surprisingly good season with Kirkenes, with an inability to be pressed that the Dragons sorely need from their midfield options. Made her breakthrough to the starting lineup under Repin in his first cycle.

A smooth, metronomic presence in the center of the pitch, Guan's next developmental step will be to hone his defensive instincts - something he's already made great strides at in Nephara before heading to Millsburgh.

#80 - CM - Brynjólfur Zhenyasson ZHANG - 30 - Crossroads (CMT)
Born and raised in Græntfjall, but the son of Yuezhou NT midfielder Zhang Zhenya, it was anyone's guess who Zhang was going to declare for. Just like Kara Mingsdottír Zhang (no relation), though, he opted for the side with a paucity of talented young midfielders. After returning to Yuezhou at his father's urging and surprising everyone by becoming the linchpin of Royals' attack at a young age, he headed to Chromatika to further prove himself. A dynamic 8/10 hybrid who moves quickly with and without the ball, and who offers relentless energy on the defensive end. Dropped out of the NT midway through World Cup 96 due to the stress of the situation in Græntfjall, but seems to be back to full strength - and now has a Red League title under his wing as well.

ATTACKING MIDFIELDERS

#08 - CM/CAM - Kara Mingsdottír ZHANG (f) (张白兰) - 33 - Liria Prizren (MYT)
The YFA spent a lot of time and effort convincing Karolíná Mingsdottír to declare for Yuezhou's national team instead of Græntfjall's, but it's become apparent that the young midfielder was worth the trouble. A well-rounded midfield prospect whose speed and technique makes her devastating on the counterattack, and who has a propensity for scoring wondergoals. At Liria, she became one of the world's premier midfielders - but her progression as a player has stalled somewhat in recent years, and she'll be looking for a legacy-defining cycle before hanging them up.

#10 - CAM/SS - YAO Liwei - 28 - TK Korp Mynda (BNJ)
An excellent runner on counterattacks and a dynamic and willing passer, somewhat in the Tao Beiliang mold. Similarly to Tao, doesn't do much on defense, and was moved progressively upfield by his coaches after starting his career as a #8.

STRIKERS

#09 - SS/LW - ZHU Tianming (朱天明) - 33 - Beian Bats
A versatile attacker most at home in a false-nine role, Zhu's physicality lets him hold up the ball before using his surprisingly good passing chops to distribute to teammates. He's not blazing fast, but he's quick and shifty enough to also play an inside-forward role on the wings, popping up when you least expect it to latch onto a cross or head home from close range.

#21 - ST - Leona TSANG (f) (曾巧珠) - 28 - Myana (CMT)
GS+'s best young player in the world is now a Dragon, accepting Elaine Ashdown's callup in controversial fashion two caps short of being tied to the Cormorants. Her speed, dynamic off-ball runs, and ability to score from anywhere make her difficult to pin down, especially with Kara Mingsdottír Zhang feeding her a steady diet of through-balls for the foreseeable future - as long as she can stay on the field, having already dealt with a succession of ankle injuries during her national team tenure.

A hardworking and athletic attacker, Zheng still lacks a bit of finesse and can look quite awkward at times. Still, she always seems to get the ball where she wants it to be, and she's actually quite the composed finisher if you look at the xG.

#31 - RW/CAM - Liljan Álfarsdottír ZHOU (f) - 28 - Kirkenes (KSK)
Not especially fast, but agile and skilled: Zhou can be a bit predictable at times, loving to cut inside, but has all the ability you'd want in a modern winger. Her surprisingly good playmaking has earned her a second look as a rotational #10 in Repin's system, in addition to a potential starter if the Mytanar opts to change formation.

#33 - ST - Sienna LI (f) - 30 - Rolalas FC (VAL)
A Nepharan dual national, Li grew up idolizing Liu Huiying and definitely adopted some of the ex-Corvistone star's game to her own. Stronger, less agile, and more of a traditional nine than Liu, but still likes to drop deep and distribute when the opportunity presents itself.

Demonym: Eastfielder

The Imperial Commonwealth of Eastfield Lodge is a vast conglomerate of nations and states that resides almost entirely in a separate dimension to the reality you all know and love - a bubble universe would be an apt description (the why is a long story, involving the Dreamed Realm and a threat to the existence of the entire universe). The one bit of the country that lies in the regular dimension is a tiny island in the northern seas of the famous sporting region Rushmore, which serves as a transport hub for travel across the region by conventional transport, and for travel to the Imperial Commonwealth via something called a Void Ship (think of it like travelling through a well controlled wormhole).

The history of the country is long and complex, but the key overview is that it is a very socialist Muslim constitutional monarchy, with a noted reputation as being one of the nicest places to visit in the entirety of the known multiverse - the most recent WA census puts the Imperial Commonwealth in the top 100 nations in several measures such as Safety, Compliance/freedom from crime, Tourism, Weather, Compassion, Niceness and Environmental Beauty, amongst several others; most of which are also ranked as the best in the Rushmore region. Because of the initial portal, the nation advanced forwards in leaps and bounds technologically due to intermingling with denizens of another dimension, various alien races from the universe in which the popular RLStates TV show Doctor Who is situated. Whilst these aliens used to take part in life in the Imperial Commonwealth, even forming the Eastfielder National Team for a number of tournaments, they no longer exist in this bubble universe, due to a dimensional shift no longer aligning the two dimensions - for now, Eastfield Lodge only contains those beings that you find elsewhere in the NS multiverse.

Whilst we are a fairly chill nation, we are still fairly socially conservative, and there are plenty of special rules visitors need to be aware of:

No Alcohol. At all.
No smoking or recreational drugs at all. Visiting team members/fans will be given replacement/cessation therapy if struggling to cope.
No public displays of affection. What you get up to in the privacy of your own hotel room is up to you, as long as it stays there.
There isn't a legally enforced dress code, but at least dress respectfully, the locals will appreciate you.
Cities are by and large car-free zones; make use of the extensive public transport system.
Don't worry about a language barrier, there is an inbuilt telepathic translation circuit within the visas that you will be issued - it translates all speech and text into a language you understand instantaneously.
No unhealthy junk food will be available, the country is too healthy for that. Also, the food will all be halal, but there is an extensive range of vegetarian/vegan options for those who insist.
Ignore all the cameras and the police presence. They're for the safety of everyone.
High-level technology pervades every aspect of society and life here, get used to it.

Lodger City Memorial Stadium
Location: New Lodger City
Capacity: 150,000
Description: The home of Eastfielder football, the stadium was built on the ruins of the old capital of Eastfield Lodge, Lodger City, which was flattened in a double disaster (severe floods from dams bursting and an explosion from an unknown source, killing much of the population of the city and rendering the city useless. Administrative functions were transferred over to Lodgertia, the city began to be rebuilt, and it was decided that this stadium would be one of the monuments erected in place. The inside walls contains inscriptions of the names of all the dead – just under 9 million. The stadium used to play host to the two classic giants of EL football – RGS Athletic and VLC FC - until both had their new stadiums finished; it is now only used for internationals and cup matches.

Parliament Stadium
Location: Lodgertia
Capacity: 80,000
Description: Formerly the second largest stadium in Eastfield Lodge (until King Iqbal II and Vorgan Park were completed), behind the Memorial Stadium in New Lodger City, it was built in the centre of Lodgertia, the capital of Eastfield Lodge, and the Imperial Commonwealth. It was named due to the fact that the Parliament is based just a few hundred metres down the road; in fact, the original stadium was actually joined to the Parliament building, as an area where MPs could watch or even engage in sport with the public, as well as being a designated protest site. However, with Lodgertia becoming more built up, it was decided that the stadium needed to be built up as well. It is home to Lodgertia United and Lodgertia City alongside being temporary hosts of RGS Athletic and VLC FC (when Lodger City was being rebuilt), and in the past has hosted several international matches, including the final of SBCC 27 and a group in both stages of Market Cup 4.

Tavernia Stadium
Location: Tavernia

Description: Currently the largest stadium outside of Eastfield Lodge itself, Tavernia Stadium sits near the heart of the city of Tavernia, in Westmeadow Tavern, the nation bordering Eastfield Lodge. WC85 will see the stadium's debut when it comes to hosting the Eastfield Lodge National Team, but it is no stranger to WC football though - it was the home ground for Westmeadow Tavern when they had their own international football team in the earlier years of the Imperial Commonwealth. It is also home to the two best teams in Westmeadow Tavern, with FC Tavernia and Tavernia City plying their trade here.

Manager: Aleksandr Meogegiv (Age: 65)
Following the Imperial Commonwealth's crash and burn exit in the 49th Copa Rushmori, Corinne Mersiades was given her marching orders and the ICELFA turned inwards for their next manager, promoting the most senior coach who was willing to take the role, former FM Town fullback Aleksandr Meogegiv. Despite his upbringing as a full back, being an Attacking Coach for the national team has reflected in his setup for the World Cup, coming out in press conferences opting for an all out attack style. Will it pay off with another qualification, who knows?

Players will also tend to inform the referee about mistakes/clarifications in judgement regarding throw-ins, fouls given but with no contact and goal kicks/corner kicks (plus other bouts of honesty - up to you).

Football is the by far most popular sport in Tikariot. The Tikariot Premier League is the highest tier of the Tikariotian football pyramid and is one of the most competitive leagues in the multiverse.
With now 12 World Cup participations, including third places at World Cups 97 and 99, Tikariot is part of the Rushmorean sub-region of Pavola.

The fans of the Snowy Owls, called the Dark Tide, also deserve particular mention. Not only are they renowned for their chants, but they are also bringing the Thunder Clap (Click here for example) to the stadium, something that the players join in as a pre-game ritual that has left an impression on the opponents and opposing fans more than once (OOC: similar to the Haka of the New Zealand All Blacks). The players will form a triangle near the kick-off circle and lift their arms, which the fans do as well. Then a lone drum will start to signal the rhythm and both players and fans alike will move in unison, each clap accompanied by a loud cry, the claps (and cries) speeding up, creating an overwhelming sense of impending doom.

Brian McAllister - 54
After having been assistant to now former coach Stuart Ekstrom, Brian McAllister made the move to Sargossa and enjoyed a lot more success than his former mentor, having two Copa Rushmori victories under his belt. With him, the Snowy Owls continue to utilize their flexible 4-3-3, in which the fullbacks can push forward and the wingers drop back depending on the game situation, add unpredictability. With this formation, he also won Tikariot's Copa Rushmori at its 42nd, 47th and 48th editions, bringing his personal total to 5, making him the winningiest coach in Copa Rushmori history.

Style of play

Deriving from the fast-flowing and powerful river that dominates the nation, Kwrpan football aims to be equally rapid – players will most often look to get their head up and drive forward as quickly as possible. Kwrpan fullbacks are especially a point of pride – a truly rigorous developmental process creates the stamina required to make overlapping runs dozens of times per game while still maintaining defensive duties - but Kwrpan players are extremely positionally flexible, and generally capable of playing across their entire line. Kwrpan fans have little patience for defensive football – while some managers have seen success in the Bright League with more pragmatic strategies in the past, fans have repeatedly made clear that they would rather lose 4-3 than win 1-0. This leaves Kwrpan teams extremely exposed on the counter-attack, especially against higher-level opposition.

Dobgazoz-bof (19W 9D 10L +9 GD) has made a point of implementing this style, with the Electric Eels teams of World Cup 99 showing absolute fearlessness in the attack throughout qualifying and then at the finals. Qualification for the tournament proper in Kwrpania's first ever cycle has earned the manager an almost infinite leash, and while obviously a strong showing is desirable at this home World Cup, the KFF and Electric Eels supporters are simply happy to be part of the show again.

1 Peter DE BEUKELAER GK, Aardswood United
A former U21 international who has been a central part of his club's startling rise to what must now be considered perennial title contention after three straight top-three finishes and two straight final-day title deciders. Solid in all aspects of goalkeeping, a previous streak of youthful inconsistency is now mostly behind him.

2 Ársæll EINARSSON* LB/LWB, AFC Carroll Lewiston
After being out of sight, out of mind for a while in Kelssek, AFC Carroll Lewiston picked him up in the transfer bargain of the season and watched as he completed the team's defensive rebuild and carried the team all the way to only their second ever NSL title. Now he's locked in at what was a problem spot for the national team too.

3 Oliver VANDOME* CB/RB, Carathyr Emeralds FC (TKT)
The defensive heart of this team. Has thrived at right-back since his big-money move to the TPL - part of the Team of the Year in his first season and the "B Team of the Year" in his second - but is typically deployed centrally in Hooker's 4-1-4-1. Either way, he's an enforcer with a sneaky creative streak (14 assists in those two TPL seasons).

4 Liz OKNEY CB, AFC Carroll Lewiston
Long hyped internally as a potential saviour to the Magicians' long-held defensive frailty, she started truly living up to those expectations in the last two seasons, culminating in leading the team to a stunning title raid last season. Comfortable in possession and not a liability with either foot, she's typically deployed on the left of a centre-back pairing.

5 Katla ANDERSDÓTTIR RB/RWB, Bay City United
Key defensive cog - and occasional creator - in Chen Huikang's legendary CdC-winning Bay City United side has been not quite the same since the heart of that team got ripped out by the Flight 134 tragedy. Frankly, we shouldn't have been expecting any Kytlerians to be. Still probably the best right-back in the NSL, not least because she's very good at picking her moments to go forward.

6 Zachary EDWARDS-HILLIER* CDM/CM, Galatica (PAS)
At the heart of this team's rebuilt midfield thanks to being one of the foreign-based players who weren't in the doomed squad, Edwards-Hillier is an enforcer who will chase after anyone and anything to get the ball and then distributes it nicely once he does.

7 VICENTE Bautista Oleandro CM/CAM/LM, Miposojeon (QUE)
Has been the face of this national team since it was refounded. Usually lives in the left half-space, where he's a threat to curl the ball directly goalwards with his right foot or into the danger zone with either. A Q-League champion with Miposojeon, he's the one Kytlerian who truly might be amongst the best players in the multiverse.

8 Stijn BEVERWIJK CM/CAM, Florley Garden City
A true number 8 wearing the right number, his combination of first name and ability to read the game has given him joking comparisons to Kytlerian chess star Stijn van Dijk. The difference is that Beverwijk hasn't taken a step back in the last couple of years like van Dijk has.

9 Charles PACKARD ST/CF, Aardswood United
Scored 20 in a 30-game season in Siovanija & Teusland... on a team that got relegated because they conceded 99. In 30 games. Duly returned home with his stock freshly raised and his place as the Kytlerian number 9 affirmed. A tall, physical striker with well-rounded skills, he appears to be adapting well enough to the off-ball duties of the striker in the 4-1-4-1 run by Aardswood and now the NT.

10 Hjördis SIGURDSDÓTTIR CF/ST/CAM, Aardswood United
Speaking of which, here's the fun-sized forward who has operated as Aardswood's "false 10" to devastating effect since being signed by Thomas Hooker shortly before getting the call to manage the post-Flight 134 NT. Always a difficult player to track with her elusive movement in the final third, and not just because of how tall she isn't.

11 DINO AZAR* LW/ST, Florley Garden City
Quebecois-Kytlerian-Tamazghan tri-national who loves bangers. And also sausages. And also other food. But mostly bangers. Has taken entirely too many long-range shots in his career, but quite a few of them have turned into memorable goals. Most often deployed as a weapon off the bench for the NT.

12 Vanessa ANDREWS GK, Florley Garden City
First female goalkeeper in the NSL, then the first to represent her country, and showed plenty of signs of warranting it in the last couple of seasons. At 175cm, her relative lack of height and reach can be exploitable but her excellent positioning and reflexes help offset that, and she's also impressive on the distribution front.

13 PARK Si-Woo LWB/CDM/LB, Capitolians
Missed the fatal Flight 134 squad through injury and has arguably been suffering on some level with the survivor's guilt ever since, but still a highly valued member of the squad with his ability to play as either an attacking left-back or his now-established club role at the base of midfield. Has mostly played the former role under Hooker, but now likely the second-choice option at both spots.

14 Tinna RAGNARSDÓTTIR CM/CAM, Foothillers
After being part of an elite tandem with the late Blær Patreksbur at Foothillers, she has now become simply the heartbeat of the team herself, forming another elite tandem last season with Kelssek loanee Renée Batori as the Climbers secured a stunning IFCF spot. A box-to-box midfielder at a high-altitude club, unsurprisingly stamina is her calling card.

15 Alex ELLINGTON RW/RM, AFC Carroll Lewiston
A late-blooming talent perhaps held back in the past by the emotional vortex of gender dysphoria, they have taken a big leap in recent seasons to become a central part of this stunning Magicians ascent and now the typical first choice at what has looked a weak spot in the post-Flight 134 NT. Has vivid pink hair but this somehow doesn't stop them escaping defensive attention.

16 Stephen HUNTER CB/CDM, Roddens City
The twin brother of Flight 134 victim Brad. Feeling the urge to build on his lost brother's legacy, he has settled in as a core piece of the national team squad as a versatile option who can be deployed as a ball-playing defender or a holding midfielder.

17 Joke FELTKAMP RW/ST, FC Alaer
Pulled out of that trip to Arrosia to settle in with her new teammates at FC Alaer, unsurprisingly struggled mentally at first, but now looks close to the level that allowed her to survive seasons plural in the Red League as a wide poacher who can do the dirty work too. Likely to be a regular off the bench either on the right or centrally.

18 Liam KEMPNER RB/RWB, Aardswood United
Having played under Hooker for the Aardvarks, he's continued to thrive in the same system since Amelia Ibsdóttir took over. It's not a coincidence that there's this many Aardvarks in the squad, though Kempner's more of a solid depth option who might not be an obvious pick but for that system familiarity.

19 Davíð SVENSSON RB/CB, Foothillers
The opposite of Vandome in a way; has generally been seen as a right-back but his thriving club career has been central, albeit on the right of a back three. Either way, he's quality cover for Vandome and the two might plausibly play together in something like their club roles, with Vandome pushing forward from the right and Svensson covering as a wide centre-back.

20 SYLVIA VILLA Rodriguez LM/CAM, Real Santa Mordana
RSM have been an absolute omnishambles, squandering the benefits of a lavishly-assembled side to the point that other NSL teams have openly cited them in justifying their own lack of transfer activity. Appropriately enough, it is a product of their own well-regarded academy that has been the standout exception; Sylvia Villa was the heir to Vicente out of the academy as a creative midfielder who likes to cut inside from the left, and could be deployed with him or as cover for him on the national team now.

21 ZORNO-ZORNO Bux LB/CB, Florley Garden City
The Qusma-Kytlerian teenager is the sole member of the most recent U18WC side to make the step up to the senior squad. Their name might sound like a particularly dubious cryptocurrency, but with their strong defensive instincts they're a key part of the Gardeners' block chain.

22 Mario MANGIONE* SW/CB, Calcio Carmina Burana
Plunged into notoriety with his career-ending tackle on Quebecois star Anna Korniloff-Kouyate in the Cross-Strait Derby with Real Santa Mordana last season, but he has proper talent to go with his merciless aggression against anyone he has a grudge against. Positively lethal as a last line of defence, he can also play killer balls to hit you on the break.

23 Dennis ODINSSON GK, Foothillers
Some have seen him as the key to the Climbers being able to take the unexpected leap to the top five and the IFCF spots. He's certainly the key to why this squad - unthinkably even a few years ago - has zero Big Four goalkeepers.
