General Information

No one could have seen this coming. Except for those who predicted it. And to be honest, you had to be intelligent to predict such a thing. After the almighty Computator and leader of the known Electrumite multiverse departed the country, the four-beings-who-are-actually-one parted the nation with a superintelligence in specifically and only football. That rendered Electrumite participation in all football tournaments meaningless... until today. While today's youth, who were born after the Computator left, have no such access to this football superintelligence, it was decided in World Cup 100 that the Electrumites would not send a bunch of ten year olds to qualification. Instead, the nation's best and most memorable characters are returning with brain dampeners, the only way that would make things fair to other nations.

Most of the team is old and not expected to win many matches. As a result, they will not take massive risks that could cause injury.

His crib notes are dozens of pages long with various analyses of opposing penalty-takers depending on any situation that may arise. Sometimes these notes may fly in the wind. Now uses a quantum superposition wave collapse functions to perfectly predict penalty kicks 80% of the time.

#2 Alexander Krane - 59 - FW
New kneecap, new thigh, new foot, it's all looking up for Alexander Krane, Electrum's inaugural captain all the way back from World Cup 68 we want to say? In any case just like the elves of Valanora, Krane is the real deal vintage. Yes, he might not run or have the stamina as before, but his augmented foot somehow kicks straight and true every time. Just please don't search his leg for any illegal augmentations.

#3 Sentient Energy Ball (Seb) - ?? - FW
Seb will be wearing a fabric spherical 'jacket' which conveniently looks like a normal football at certain angles. This is a strange attempt to get the opposition off for kicking a player deliberately for a red card. Let's see if it works after this strategy has been used for two cycles. When short tempered, easily short circuited.

#4 Tyler Fernando - 52 - MF
Former Electrumite football coach and captain, Tyler Fernando, is known for making mixed teams of humans and sentients work. He resumes his role as captain for this World Cup. Outside of being Electrum's last ever coach, he is also known for being in the World Cup Failing Team of '78, piloting the team with his superb captaincy.

#5 Nindethana Nindethana (c) - 41 - MF
[i]The last ever Electrumite captain returns. Nindethana squared hails from Kale Island and is in fact the mayor of Kale city. She possesses mystical powers to open portals between two locations at short distance but refuses to use those advantages during a football match. The only time she will use those portal powers is to make a quick exit at half time and full time back to the locker room if needed. Honourable.

#6 Alan Moore (vc) - 47 - DF
Running theme of captains returning with the third captain (and former Directus player) Alan Moore coming back. Known for his tactical prowess and positioning, he seems to always at the right place at the right time in deflecting penalties and redirecting headers.

#7 Einarsson, King of the Armoured Bears - ?? - MF
Einarsson is one of those multiversal sentient bears that everyone's being talking about, and as a bonus, he is also armed with sky-iron clad armor and sharpened claws. He once played in the Electrumite team as a favour to the Computator, but now does it to stay fit and fecund. To him, ten years of Earth time is equivalent to six months of bear time.

#8 Android X4-TU in the shape of a flightless bird - ?? - MF
The talons of Android X4-TU (upgraded from version X3-TU) are known to puncture balls, so opponents are often very keen to get the ball away from it. Often matches are delayed to replace the ball.

#9 Crystal Le - 42 - DF
A long time second string player, Le is now well-ensconced in the top team, and we all felt bad because she reached her prime right before everyone decided to give up football. Chosen because she has worked well with her mentor Alan Moore in the past. Le is adept with the ball but sometimes plays too selflessly to her detriment.

#10 Yearning in the Shape of an Egg - ?? - DF
For one cycle, Electrum once had a very large oval boulder in the shape of an egg participate. They weren't really that good. Nonetheless, after being unceremoniously dumped from the team, the egg has reached transcendence. It's still an egg though and can't really speak or communicate to people, unlike the other sentient beings on the team.

#11 Julius McArthur - 24 - DF
The only young player on the team, while his age suggests that he should have the football superintelligence that every teenage-and-up has in Electrum, he is actually a recent naturalised player from Ceni (through his parents), a nation that Electrum has had close ties with historically, alongside Valladares and Eura. Held up as the future of any Electrumite football team that the nation may send in the future.

Built in 1953, the Lászvár Partisan Arena was commissioned and built by founding members of FK Partisan Lászvár. The club itself was founded by ex-military personnel, veterans of the Gyaromian Civil War (1938-1942). As it had ties to the Royal Army, construction was partly funded by the government. It was meant to replace the older SK Lászvár stadium, which could only accommodate about 9,000 people.
Construction of the stadium lasted about a year (1952-1953), and it was originally a standing venue, at a capacity of about 60,000, before being cut down to about 45,000 after it was renovated in the 1990's with seats to comply with continental football rules, it was also at that time when a roof was added. It includes a running track, which was used for sports other than football, but soon it became a barrier between the players and fans, as without it, the players would be peppered with firecrackers and flares.
It is located in the capital city of Gyaromia, Lászvár, right next to the scenic Feketerev river flowing through the city. A few blocks away was the old Gyaromian Royal Palace, now used as a museum. It's location is a testament to Partisan's loyalist roots, especially in the army.

Recognizing the faults of his WC99 qualifying campaign, Gyaromia's coach desides to change the formation to a 3-5-2, in order to better control the midfield and have more players in the backline. At its core, Gyaromia isn't that much different than what it was last tournament. Their play consists of playing a low block, mostly giving possession to their opponent, with Mármarosi and Fekető acting as wing backs in a 5 man defensive line. There they wait for a mistake or a turnover of possession by the other opponent, and go on a quick counter attack, with both the strikers and wingbacks freeing themselves up for passes and through balls from midfield.

Tamás Rózsa is veiwed more as backup than a potential starter, a solid defender and shot stopper all round, and how he's getting the chance to prove himself. Following Hegedüs' sweep of the defence, he's been given a shot as a starter.

CB: (CPT) Levente Dancs - 32 | #3
Bringing in some much needed command into the team, Levente Dancs is still in the squad, and with the captain's armband aswell. A veteran defender, he often acts as an anchor to Gyaromia's forward plays.

LCB: Patrik Bodoni - 24 | #28
Patrik Bodoni is a promising centre back at the moment, and as new CB spots have opened up, Bodoni slots right into the team. Efficiently carrying the ball into midfield, and a good shot stopper, a Partizan homegrown player, he's yet to get a bigger move.



CM: Áron Gergely - 26 | #6
Áron Gergely is a defensively sound midfielder, as he normally plays as a CDM, he found new form playing more up front as a ball winning midfielder. Being able to deliver crosses into the other half, he can turn the tide of an attack within seconds.

CM: Kristóf Henter - 24 | #8
Kristóf Henter's Box to Box playing has impressed in recent tournaments, linking up with the front two and wing backs on counter attacks wih ease.

CM: András Nemeth - 18 | #19
A promising youngster coming off his senior debut, he's looking to build on his good performances recently, as he moved to Calgasia after WC99 qualifiers. As a box to box midfielder with excellent technique, András doesn't really fit with Hegedüs' tactical style, but he can still manage to impress.


RM: István Fekető - 23 | #10
Bursting onto the international stage at 22, István Fekető got his spot by impressing in continental competitions with FK Partisan, and has proved himself as both a solid playmaker, and a good inside forward, being able to cut inside and finish chances with ease, and has recently proven himself in Tikariot alongside fellow representative Roland Mármarosi.

LF: Norbert Vincze - 29 | #9
The more experienced forward was chosen to be the target man in the team, as a prolific striker, he fits into Hegedüs' tactics well, being able to efficiently cut inside and await balls from midfield.

RF: Péter Balogh - 19 | #11
Péter Balogh, originally a U18 player, got his chance in the first team last qualifiers, and has been proven as a capable striker. A pacy finisher, but still lacks composure.

LM: Roland Máramarosi - 25 | #10
The heart of any Gyaromian attacking play, Mármarosi can work his way around defenders and out in effective lobs, crosses, through balls, you name it. He'll be getting a start after impressing for his first season in Tikariot football.

Lukács Ráduly plays more as a wing back than a traditional fullback, and Hegedüs thinks starting him in his natural position is a bit risky, and can comprise the defensive structure of the team. Still, when a goal is needed he can deliver.

Gergő Tóth has recently been converted to a winger to accommodate the new tactic change, which is looking good for him at the moment. He's more of a traditional winger, playing in through balls and crossing rather than cutting inside.

Juhász, being able to link up with pretty much anyone with his pinpoint passing, has made him a dangerous player to give up the ball to.

The only constant is our Roster, as it would seem. Well, most of it.

Oh, we absolutely have a lot of things that we need to prepare and to start doing! Of course, we have not been there for the entire duration of World Cup since the first season. My data banks and the memories that I have had from the experience have confirmed that Valentine Z have starred in World Cup since the 85th season. And then after that we took a bit of break, unsure as to if we should go ahead with this – thus the 88th World Cup, then the 90th. Right after that was when we really, really started picking up with the 90th World Cup by also having the fine Valentian citizens and folks to represent us instead of it being yet another glorified event for The Sixty to take part in. From that point onwards, it was up to the Valentian Kittens – after the rebrand, to be in the subsequent World Cup events without skipping a beat. By default, the 99th World Cup was our 10th event with the new current team, and so making this the 11th! Still, these are just purely numbers, and I understand the importance of this 100th World Cup. That is why we are ramping it up to 11! We are having a redesign of our jersey for both the home and away.

And of course, let us also not forget our sister team from Alanis Star, representing for the region of Esportiva. Ahh, that’s a little confusing, is it not? I don’t blame you at all! I ran Alanis Star purely from a political perspective, the pieces of territories in Valentine Z and the region of Esportiva under my command. For the sporting team that represented Alanis Star, on the other hand, it is handled by another robot entirely. We did share a name, but I do really assure you that we are different persons! With that said, for Valentine Z, what do you need to expect from us, and what do we expect from you, in particular? Haha, nothing as much as per usual! Just a couple of the usual rules and regulations to make sure that everyone is happy, and not in a forceful manner! We are indeed a relaxed group of people and of the nation, and I believe I can take this opportunity to explain more about Valentine Z. Let’s get to it!

Valentine Z is founded in the nice year of 2000, though the history that led up to it was not as pleasant, unfortunately. Before the founding – and I am going through this mainly by the memories and history that were fed to me, for I was only around in, I believe 1995? Anyway! There was a global war that was escalating, the Cold War that turned hot uncomfortably quickly, and escalating into World War 3. At that time, it was not going into all-out launching of nuclear weapons, but a lot of people knew that it was going to happen sooner or later. As a result of this, a certain group of folks – later called The Sixty, and lead by one Valkyrie Valentijn Samantha Constantine – planned this measure whereby they would get all of the people that was needed for repopulation. Of course, to be clear, that was after the plan to prevent the nuclear war from happening in the first, but that was no longer possible at that time!

The plan was relatively simple on the surface – gather 500,000 people of various race, language, religion. The Pre-Valentians, as they were called! It was simple, but the execution was rather difficult, mainly because of how covert the whole thing needed to be. After all, we certainly did not want the governments to know about our plans! It is unfortunately callous and heartless, but as I have aforementioned – we simply did not have the logistics as well as the practicability of saving everyone or preventing a war. The folks were chosen randomly, along with a buffer of 50,000 more so that… there was not really a nice way to put it, but for those who wanted to bring along more, the persons that we wanted to pick for their talents and other significant positive contributions! Once we have gathered enough people, there was the matter of making sure that the whole thing is kept a secret, and that they do get along. My understanding from the data was that with these people from the Eastern Hemisphere and the Western Hemisphere of the world, and even among different countries, there was bound to be tension between the people.

And there was! The first few days and weeks were marred with in-fighting – bickering, threats of violence, and then the violence itself. It took a lot for the Proto-Sixty to make sure that they did not injure each other let alone the killings, most of which was prevented with the likes of confiscating the weapons from them. Rifles and pistols, to even some sharp objects. With the last count of the population that we have under our thumb, we closed all of the hatches to our underground bunkers (Project Resolute was portrayed as a nuclear missile-proof dome to throw off the tracks of those who were a little nosy!) and hoped that it worked well. At this point in time, I do apologise for going a little bit too much in terms of content! We have such a fascinating history, but I also understand that people would like to see what makes us Valentians and, well, you know, the present day itself! For tourists and visitors!

The cliff notes version of the rest of time? The nuclear wars across the entire planet happened, we waited it out for some duration, and then terraformed the entire place – while of course, we were protected from harm. Bunkers were protected from the effects, which is trade secret! And then Valentine Z was born – from the ashes of the old! We started developing, to the heights that we have never seen before! I was there too, of course! I did not mean to be boastful about it, but you see – I am not from Valentine Z! I was transported by a dimensional portal to this wonderful world, and with friendly and cordial interactions, I decided to accept the request of the Valentians to try to reverse-engineer the technology that went into me. Isalov Industries, the company from my original world that made me, was also established in this nation; I don’t think copyright laws go that far. Oh, and Harumi Robotics, too!

As the technological developments went on, so did us as humanity, and robots and other beings! Wars were increasingly seen as pointless, and we were proud to have said that perhaps other than some scandals and scuffles that rocked the government, we as Valentians did not have even a single civil war between us, against us. There was unfortunately one international (and interdimensional) war that we had to participate in, but that was absolutely out of defense, for that large nation was bound to consume a good chunk of universes! As the decades went on, we have re-established our space program, discovered other dimensions (which lead to that aforementioned war), and of course – the world of Interdimensional Sports! We started off with NSSCRA 8, and from that, built up our teams and started participating in many more, including but not limited to: Formula Racing, Rally, Basketball, Chess, Tennis, Baseball, and more importantly for what we are here for – Football! Certainly very exciting times for us all as Valentians, and honorable, to be in such events! This is where our history stops for now, of course! More soon!

Getting into Valentine Z is actually a very easy feat! As we understand that not a lot of nations may have interdimensional travel, we will be the ones to provide it for you all! We run regularly-scheduled dimensional flights across select airports and points of interests that we have established (in particular, the territories of Alanis Star in Esportiva is a good hotspot). Eveline Gwen T. Allison Hepburn can get you there in just 0.5 seconds if you really need an expediated flight, or you did not want to deal with the interdimensional flight for that long. No extra charges, of course! When you land here, you will find out first that Valentine Z is a land of giants! Our universe we live in is 2.66 times bigger than most of the regular ones, and we are already quite tall at 8 feet average. All of this added up to us being 20-22 feet on average, and that’s just for the normal Valentians! I did say average, but it’s for citizens! :3

For the tourists – visitors, players, and everyone alike, here are a couple of rules that I believe it should be known! Drugs in general are fine, just please don’t try to sell in our territory. We have our dispensaries for all sorts, and we also would really like to ensure that Valentians and non-Valentians alike die from overdose, addiction, or having laced with wrong chemicals. For your personal consumption, well, whatever is your high, as we say, haha! For guns and weapons, you might think that given the status of the Valentians as some of the most peaceful persons in the world, we would be so against that. On the contrary, actually! You are allowed bring weapons in, but all of them’ll need to go through the declaration queue and some questionnaire about the weapon. After that, you are allowed in with the weapon into Valentine Z and feel free to try it at our target ranges! The stadiums, however, I do ask that you do not bring them there, for the fear of causing a little too much excitement, or your weapons being obstructive to others. Again, just as a general rule – you can bring in, but please do not sell or cause a ruckus! We will also do a quick screen at the ports of arrivals to make sure that you are free of all sorts of diseases and microbes that might cause a pandemic in our world. We would not want that, right? Haha, yeah please don’t! It’s difficult to undo! The check will be very painless, I would like to assure you all of that! It’s a full body scanner that would take 10 seconds, and used a series of lights and lasers… and a few other things. But again, nothing to worry about, ha hah!

Right after that, another thing you will notice is the different kiosks – one for the Valentians, and one for the non-Valentians! It seemed a little bit of a waste, redundant, and perhaps even discriminatory, but we would like to tell and reassure you that it absolutely is not! It is simply for the convenience of both groups given the tremendous height differences! That is perhaps also one of the things that we would like to show off, haha! Either way, we would like to make sure that you will not be treated as a curiosity; the idea of people smaller than us was not a big discovery. There are also wormholes as an alternative for those that do not fancy space flights, as well as the quirks of liftoffs or landings associated with the spaceships.

While you are here in Valentine Z, please also do observe and abide by our laws. They are nothing too restrictive, of course! Just the usual, you know? No discrimination and racism, no terrorism, no drink-driving, no cruelty to both persons and animals alike (plants also count!), the works. You will be pleased to know that in the event that laws were broken, you will either only be fined or jailed at worst; we have no death penalty ever since our inception! Alanis Star is a piece of territory under Valentine Z, but it’s entrusted to one Clarissa Alanis Star Samantha! Yes, I know what you all might be wondering – this was way before they became lovers! Valkyrie Valentijn Samantha Constantine trusted her after Clarissa has showed her worth, and so she was allowed Alanis Star in her own image. It included territories of South American and Canadian landmasses on Earth, a few more here and there on Mars when we terraformed and got ahold of it. And of course, the territory in Esportiva that we have managed to claim and to get! The Esportivan territory is surrounded by Sorlovia, Eristicea, Ares-Y-Penthesliea, and more importantly, Hapilopper. We have had our fair share of encounters in NSSCRA and in many other sports here and there! Well, I did say we but more of the other Valentians and not specially Alanis Star folks. Excluding Clarissa, of course for sure! The regions of Alanis Star is distinctive from the rest of Valentine Z in that a lot of the technological advancements were from us. That is also reflected in our architecture being a little bit more glass, with the mix of usual nature and cultural bits too, of course! Oh and yes, we have more cyborgs and AIs and robots roaming the streets freely. Once again, they are allowed on entirety of Valentine Z, just that they resided more here, demographically!

So, it has been a while after all. The Hinodejin Empire had kept to itself for the past couple of decades, seeing no reason to mingle with foreigners beyond the usual tourism and so on. However, in terms of football, the scene chose to close international bonds, send everyone back home, and continue playing against each other instead. It turns out that there was more money in that than in playing in the IFCF, so that's where they went. The Empire itself changed a bit, having finally properly conquered its own realm's main planet fully, aiming for the stars, and increasing its size, welcoming more and more aliens to its ranks.

They also got a new monarch. Empress Satomi lost, at last, to challenger Atsuko Asakawa, meaning this Empire now has a new leader. Empress Atsuko kept things mostly as they were, allowing for the Empire's society to proceed forth with a reasonable level of freedom, though she chose to divert a bit of the royal coffers towards investing in some of the more underdeveloped regions of the Empire, not to mention researching on how to revive certain planets that weren't so keen on joining the Hinodejin fold. Satomi did bounce back, gaining the crown of Anwellia and Saint-Joan, one of the monarchies still around at the Emirates of Futurnia. Times were slow, diplomatically, most of it involving the Empire having to combat attempts to disown their lands on the Esportivan map. It wasn't fun. You guys should stop rushing us about stuff.

Naturally, that meant having a national team was a bit difficult. Top players aren't too keen on going through the sort of schedule that international ball has, after all. I mean, who could blame them? Did you look at our qualifiers group? Yeah, thanks for all that travelling, jerks.

Still, a couple of impresarios chose to invest in a professional football league that operates on a franchise system with the full goal of getting a squad to represent the country in the World Cup. Rules being that you had to have Hinodejin citizenship and that you couldn't go and represent another country. You might have heard about them from the team that's run by a heavy metal band or the team that made their money out of a goofy anime horse girl fad. We do have a little surprise for you all, though.

The former ruler of the Hinodejin Empire, now the wife of the ruler of Anwellia and Saint-Joan, Satomi Asakawa, considered that she wasn't doing anything important at the moment and figured she would give this tactical job shindig a whirl. It'll be quite fun to see Eltnum Artemisia trying to go against her orders and somehow not commit an insult to the royal family.

HOME STADIUM

The Cauldron at the Gateway, an 80.000 seater right at the heart of Misei City, capital of the province of the same name. Usually sees games played by Interdimensional Misei, a team that's still going (strong and in good health, no less) despite the changes to Hinodejin football. It has, however, been used by other teams from the region, like the Hollywood Acres Stars and the Bellablade Kamatamare, teams from other regions of the city, so it lost a bit of its Interdimensional-only flair. It should generally be an easier place to visit.

A pure 433 for them, with most clubs in the top tier represented somehow. Potentially the best player is Nys, on goal. They looked for options to have players on the same team link up for better chemistry, but it really looks like they'll have to create their identity from scratch. The more attacking, or at least, possessive teams from the north and more realistic, staunch southern clubs will have to figure it out. That includes creative defenders and cautious attackers - it's not a given that this team is a single unit this cycle.

A team with less depth than teams like Meia-Armadoren or Isidoren, or even a newer team like Brabensia and Batavioren. But the stars on this team are a bit brighter than those on most of the other Constellation teams - Lieu and Tanasugarn lead a fun midfield and Kurniawan and Kartawijaya are immensely efficient forwards. The success of this team hinges entirely on how well prepared the defence is and how many attacks can be snuffed out before they move to the 'one on one against the defence' phase. Gameplan matters!

The team with the big bucks, Ndugutisaoren is always under pressure to perform. If they're the best and brightest of the Constellation, how come they don't win the Constellation Championship? The midfield is still led by 37-year old Njoka - and why wouldn't you let him take the spotlight - but otherwise the team is on board with new players. As it stands - with how weak a lot of Constellation defences are these days - we'd back Ndugutisaoren as the best team in the Constellation between Nyakio and Luvuno leading the defence, Madela, Muraguri, Mukondi in addition to Njoka on midfield. Nyaguthi and Madondo are fine forwards but not guys that can turn a game around on their own merits - but they shouldn't have to rely on just their own merits.

All the looks of a 433 or even a 334. For the defence, it's this cycle or never with captain Cabrol about to retire and the other big names at the back close to the end of their careers as well with Pérez, Aizpurueta, and Vigo. On the plus side, Guezala is likely the best defender on this team right now and still in his prime, and they found Prua to bolster a great new generation of defenders. But as we all know: this team isn't about defence. The midfield is creative and all over the place. If you can make them run, you can tear Isidoren apart, but if you let them pass their way from defence to attack, they're hard to dispossess and beat. Malapeir is the real star of this team, Jimenez and Caballero are both in supportive roles but if push comes to shove, they can pretty much do the same playmaker job. Up front it's all eyes on Cancio, just 21 but already she's carrying the hopes of a nation. Arroibi and Racionero are just as capable but less uninhibited, and Laborde or Perera are fine backups.

Their own ambition is to match Ko-oren within a few years, and with how much the nation is geared towards sporting success, if there's any territory that could do it, it's them. But for now... a goalie under 20 and defining players not much older than that - it'll take a little time for them to realise their potential. But it's there. Mari is the star of the team so far.

An absolutely imprenetrable unit at the back, down to the substitutes. Honestly impressive what the territory's done despite a five year head start for most of the other territories... nobody wants to say it, but this is a contender for the Constellation Championship. But don't count out the other lines either: Durling and Snellgrove are capable too, and Easom has only above average strikers around him as well. But that defence... we can't say anything other than that we're beyond impressed. Mattingley, Brisley, Lion, Moore, Spanner, and Phillips are better than anything the rest of the Constellation have put together.

We looked at this team and we thought 'this is not it', until we got to the forwards. It's true: most of this team doesn't live up to the hype of how Tarören usually operates, but Korun, Gul, Efendi together are a phenomenally lethal trio. With Kuru their midfield isn't as mid as it could have been, yet the defence really struggles past Bulut and Hanim. And one of them isn't twenty yet, while age is usually something defenders get better from.

Chanmingoren have earned their spot among the better of the Constellation, but that position feels a tad precarious. The players that got them that status have now retired - the team were so ready to call up 35-year old Jun Yi, or 37-year old Huan Meng, among others - and the new generation will have to maintain their newfound respect within the Constellation. There's enough to do that between Zhu, Lu, Gao on goal and in defence, but the further forward the more the team struggles. Lian and Han will need to do a lot by themselves.

That Campionato was not what the team expected. Let's face it, crashing out in the quarterfinals was going to be a disappointing result no matter how anyone sliced it. They can claim a moral victory all they want, considering the team that beat them ended up going all the way and taking home the trophy, but a moral victory doesn't equal actual results.

However, this was a team that was missing a couple of things. Lucas Meilling was off the team dealing with personal mental health struggles, and couldn't help lead this team when they needed him most. Eddie Umbring, despite showing amazing success in the Lliga system, hadn't seen a call-up despite more than deserving it. Both these players are on the 23-man roster now, and the Owls are ready to take on this World Cup Qualifying campaign.

Last cycle had a disappointing end, as the monkey's paw curled when they asked to not lose a Group Stage match: they didn't lose any matches, but managed to become the first team in the 48-team era to get eliminated on three draws, a result which reinforced years of Eshian heartbreak in the World Cup. They had made it to 5 editions in a row, but only made it to the knockouts in just one, despite this being a time when it was easier than ever to make that leap past the groups. Their journey to finally be in the last 32 again would have to begin here, in the most stacked World Cup qualifying ever seen. For the first time ever, they were finally the first seeds after winning their last 3 qualifying groups in a row, and hopes were higher than they ever had been. This historic campaign would begin...

...on their couches. They had a bye on MD1. But after that, they would play host to the Shell Shock Troop Clan, a nation no Eshian had even seen since the first Elephant Chess Cup. This was their first time in WCC football competition since before the collapse of the nation they had once been (the legendary Aguazul, home of the man, the myth, the legend, Sosimo Lissón), and it was time to give them a warm Eshian welcome.

If you're playing in Eshialand City, expect to find a cosmopolitan city at the cutting edge of modern tech, with lots of culture to take in at the same time. Maybe you could go for a bite to eat at one of the many nice restaurants, or spend a nice day with a walk by the seaside. There are plenty of options for things to do, so the world is your oyster. The stadium itself is a very modern facility, having been built back in 2021 in response to the Owls' incredible performance in the 75th Baptism of Fire, with a retractable roof in case of nasty weather (but don't expect to use it much).

Disappointment in the CE was no bother to Morgan, who came back to this historic World Cup with his eyes on one thing: getting back to the final 48, and maybe seeing a little bit more action beyond that. The island nation of Aleirave is a rather small one, with a population of barely 50 thousand, located by a sea they know as the Retakono Me'a, or the sea of mystery. The only islands that were anywhere near them seemed to sink under the sea a couple years back, leaving them as the most isolated nation in the region of Anaia.

The nation of Aleirave was originally founded by Fyodor Tereyev, who was a puteshestvennik (or "traveller") from Klysevia, about 350 years ago. His descendants ruled the island up until the year 2023, when Alexandr Tereyev was shot and killed by a lone gunman in a peaceful protest. Since then, the island has been ruled as an Special Administrative Unit of Eshialand, effectively acting as its own democratic nation within a nation.

The attempt to bounce back in the CAFA Cup did not go to plan. Unfortunately, despite making it to Pot 1 for the first time in their history, a wacky format meant they were still seed 2, and drawn into an insane group of death. Once again, it was a group stage crashout for the Seagulls, and back into exile they ran. But now, they had a problem. This team was going to be expected to host home matches... luckily, Haulafo Paka'ula had an unhinged plan, and the Eshian government, not wanting to see the Aleiravan football flame die out, was willing to go along with that.

Reko'uho Fekelu Stadium, New Alikonora, Kia'u Special Economic Zone (capacity: 10,000).
In the absence of an Aleiravan population that actually supports their team, drastic measures had to be taken in order to re-establish a home for this team, and that was done by going back to the Kia'u Islands. While the governments of both Eshialand and Aleirave previously had no plans to come back, these plans changed when a new stadium was needed. The Kia'u Islands were off the grid, free from the possibility of news getting back to Aleirave. The stadium isn't that much to behold, and all these 10,000 seats are reserved for visiting fans. The only other people on the island will be archaeologists, here to discover what actually happened to civilization on these islands. All of this will be explained in RPs.

Overview
Mertagne arrives at World Cup 100 in an interesting position - one that is fighting for relevance against a harsh and uncaring multiverse. Long gone are the days where the nation was at the centre of international economic development, with a war against Bostopia in the nation's rear view mirror and a begrudging role as one of the premier economies of an Anaian free trade and movement area that seems to be coagulating, like a scab, more by the day. Regional instability is the same as it's ever been, just in different locations. This time, it's not Mertagne in the limelight, but its cyan neighbours in the south, as the nation of Krytenia continues to grapple with its government gone awry. Mertagnian leaders, divided on how to approach the issue, are entering negotiations with a variety of northern Krytenian states, but are simultaneously facing mixed signals from a seemingly reformed Bostopia, who has come around the negotiating table alongside other Bekkside nations in Anaia like a family member returning to hear a will. On the international stage, Mertagne is looking to hold its nerve, it's increasingly inter-dependant economy, and its place in the regional pecking order.
Football, as it ever is, remains a pleasant distraction from these weighty matters, and the Green Goblins will be looking to make a mark in this historic one hundredth edition of the tournament. With many nations coming out of the woodwork to participate, a reactive squad headed up by Mertagnian manager Claudio Vantula is looking to make the most of its opportunities, and not go quietly into the sporting annals of the multiverse.

Breakdown
Claudio Vantula's decision to promote Lorne Stannard to first choice goalkeeper has been lauded as an unconventional one in domestic footballing circles. Her risk-taking style and comfort in reaching for shots far outside the box have caused concern to those that come from more conventional footballing circles. Vantula is confident that this flair from the back of the pitch will be a useful force to inject some vim and vigour into a first choice defensive core that finds itself focused on stopping shot opportunities from the wings. Michael Thurtle and Dominic Moko hang like gargoyles in the wide areas of the defensive third, with Mari Vastell and Emone Rockas providing the main thrust of circulation in the defensive zone of play. However, Vantula has selected his squad well, and the bench options for this back third provide a notable counterweight should any of these strategies fall flat during the qualification phase. Saif Dedec, often touted as a 'safe' pair of hands, is a more traditional keeper should Mertagne be facing down more traditional teams, and Angela Nonody and Lloyd Lindsay can provide a more scrappy defensive centre should the team need to pick up the pace and rapidly convert possession from more pacy attackers. Vantula isn't afraid to mobilise these game-changers where required, and is regularly consulting a 'lines' chart similar in scope to managers you'd find in sports such as ice hockey. He believes that by giving the squad a modular structure, they will be more resilient against the smorgasbord of teams to sample at this historic edition of the tournament.

The true tactical identity of the squad, it can be argued, lies in the midfield, and several key players provide the fulcrum for both Mertagne's ability to stop shots, as well as create opportunities to start them. MVP of the squad and captain Aislin Du Moucel is truly the heart of the squad, and isn't afraid to get scrappy and defend if the team is on the back foot. Her and Alasdair Larreko in the midfield look to maintain possession and feed the ball out to the sides to either of Roland Auber or Charlotte Callan - who are primarily tasked with creating opportunities to unleash the ball to the striking corps. On the bench, Safo Flechette and Chloe Fairley provide options for slowing the game down, reflecting Vantula's approach for a more conservative game that carefully reviews every move, and most notably aims to shut down the post-football that is regularly practiced by Mertagne's Anaian neighbours. While this tournament presents a wider field, the ability to keep cool under pressure and pick a choice moment to proceed will likely serve well against many of the teams that might be making their debut in this edition of the tournament. By now a true old head of the sport, even though the nation itself is comparatively young (having just celebrated its centenary), its footballing bones are well honed.

Vantula's attacking options tend to promote standout characters, and many have criticised this attacking formation as being a key weak point in the Mertagnian squad. Like a wave crashing against the shore, many claim that Mertagne have plenty of opportunities to get towards the goal, but lack finishers outside of Trebuchet. Nazer Armenadriz tends to play in Trebuchet's shadow, preferring to sit deeper and also higher off the ground in terms of play. Christine Newbury is also happy to drop back where required, but much of this squad will be looking to be aided greatly by the core of the midfield instead of necessarily getting stuck in and providing a counter-attack originating from the attacking third. Expect Mertagne to score more from set-pieces and quick, lightning moments eked out from the midfield, rather than a sustained pressure near the opposing box. This 'flash in the pan' mentality is one that Vantula is hoping will add an experimental dash of unpredictability to a squad that desperately needs a jolt in the backside if they're to finish above the station that the latest batch of the KPB+ rankings has delivered for them.

Dannin City Stadium sits in the heart of Mertagne's capital, and its unique look ensures that it's both an art piece, a functional stadium, and an eco-friendly statement all at once due to its assortment of solar panels, which wax and wane with the passing of the sun - an event that happens on occasion here in the wetlands. Home to top-tier domestic team Century Mertagne, the patriotic lime and dark green seating is sure to excite any nation that comes to play here. The stadium, shaped like a question mark or a tadpole(?), with its tail end facing south, also boasts an entertainment complex and is a hub venue for the local community.

Dannin City Stadium will host the matches against The Knockout Gun Gals and Sambuca.

The Ring Tank Stadium, Ostosaide, Harridan (Capacity, 54,000)
Located in Ostosaide, this stadium is home to Octosaide, and as the name suggests, boasts the region's largest enclosed aquarium on the outside of the stadium. Large enough for sea creatures of all types to enjoy their lives, the aquarium is carefully maintained by a complex climate control system, which has been upgraded in recent years in an effort to avoid promoting the growth of a thick green algae that would previously cover the stadium on a regular basis. Visitors to the stadium can view the aquatic flora and fauna from two angles - outside the stadium, with binoculars at regular viewing points around it, or from the inside at the Ring Tank Aquatic Viewing Centre. The pitch, located inside and away from the view of the aquarium, is well kept and its 54,000 seats are coloured in the blue and yellow of the local side.

Nine Star Arch, Webster, The Forkelands (Capacity: 66,500)
The Nine Star Arch is an imposing sports stadium found in the city of Webster, and is home to a source of national pride - the fierce domestic football club FMFC Ninestar. The nine large spotlights that adorn the Nine Star Arch’s titular arch have many uses; two of them during games played at this stadium are to spin and provide a light show whenever a team scores, and to provide those living in and around the city of Webster with a live score graphic, with a number of lights on opposing ends of the arch lit with the corresponding team’s home colour depending on how many goals they have scored. Many teams that play here have the dream to 'capture the arch', which is achieved by scoring more than five goals in a game, so that a majority of the nine lights on the arch are in your team's colours. The national team of Bollonich was the first international team to ‘capture the arch’, with an 8-2 victory over Gortolekua in the 83rd Cup of Harmony. Could your team be the second team to accomplish this feat?

A project that could be considered the crucible of New Fligsive, Mertagne, the Flynn Ar3na (named as it is the third stadium to bear the name) was built as a multi-year construction project between regional construction giant Flynn’s, and the Mertagnian government. The Flynn Ar3na boasts a unique design that iterates on the design of its predecessor, the Flynn Arena in Fligsive, Euran Oceania Territories. This incarnation of the stadium has sacrificed some of its seats in order to incorporate a unique art section - where the old Flynn Arena’s upper ring would have been, here instead sit thousands of individually cast faceless metal statues, each inscribed with the names of Fligsivi civilians and combatants during the Corvidae War and associated Fligsive Incident. The unique acoustics that these metal statues cause in the upper ring creates a scintillating echoing effect when sound is broadcast from the top, which provides unique opportunities in this multi-purpose stadium, home to club side New Fligsive’s Memory. It is said that sometimes, the statues create the echo of a crowd lost to time.

Less keepers, more competition. Signore Ajello looked at what could be described a golden generation of goalkeepers and decided to get rid of players considered superstars by many. The removal of Rojas and Wright is considered purely tactical. Wright seems to have conceded too much in the last cycle, Rojas did not impress too much in the Olympics and considering the competition she had to face, was left out of the squad. The experience and expertise of Ungaro is still considered necessary, as are the leaps of Bardhyl Imeri. The addition of unproven Isalba Meloni may provide some questionmarks, provided AC Poma was a mid table side through the season. However, the experienced eye can see the potential of Meloni and how pivotal she was from time to time for her team.

Defenders:

The defender's position is always kept for players who are speedy, positionally adept and physically strong for their size and usually either have excellent leadership skills, game intelligence or a hot-headedness and most of a time a combination of the three. It is a position that also lacks the respect it deserves in Juven society, but it is one that is necessary in order to make it easier for the goalkeeper and the team as a whole.

Keeping competition high and trusting in some new names remains the main jist on the organisation of defence. The lineup is quite changed and because of that change, more players are added, a different complexity is given to the composition and a higher focus is provided on more specialist players in each position. While the core of Callejon/Pujals/Marroqui/Stafilidi are able to keep their positions due to their flexibility as players, the addition of more players is proving the emphasis that is given on specialisation. A trait of Ajello is that he disregards the teams of players and looks at individuality and perceived chemistry with the team, which would help with keeping on par with his tactics that helped FC Piluzzi dominate the league for 4 years straight.

With less gaps, the defence of la squadra under Ajello will more certainly focus on covering gaps in a more consistent way and will try to keep the ball on its feet often times. The technically sound Contini/Cortellu additions are a testament to that, while Cadeddu is a well-known tackling specialist and a more archetypal Juven defender when it comes to speediness and positioning. With that in mind, the Ajello Special is aiming for a smooth transition of playstyle from highly aggressive to more balanced.

Midfielders:

A midfielder is always a maestro on the pitch and depending on which side of the midfield they are in, their characteristics change. There's no pure centrocampista in Juvencus, instead players play as offensive-minded CDM's in the middle of the field. Those players usually have vision, exceptional passing or crossing and usually dictate the speed of the attack, the most necessary element of this team's tactics. They also fall back to form a bus when deemed absolutely necessary. In the sides, you have wide midfielders who act as supplementary wingers, players with speed who can provide to the wingers or the forwards when necessary. As such, you get to see fast players with great inward crossing and forward passing.

The midfield was considered more sound with less players or additions. Truthfully, the overloading of midfielders made the choices of previous coaches difficult and in times where team synergy is required more than ever, change was necessary. Peres seems to be unstoppable walking into this season, despite the early elimination in the knockout stages of the Olympics, he was pivotal for the team whenever it needed him. He has been everywhere for all teams he has been a part of and has justly earnt the nickname of "acqua" but Juven fans, since water is covering the biggest part of this planet.

As for additions, the skill to carry the ball around the pitch as well as high crossing and passing accuracy was there with everyone involved. However, Trigueros and Alenyà were added for their youthfulness and potential. Trigueros would be quite the catch for Serone despite yet another mediocre season for the team, while Alenyà is another academy prospect of Pomena willing to fight for a spot in the national team. Truly a great time to witness young Juven talent.

Attackers:

A position held with the utmost respect as it has the most prestige in Juven football. The task to be picked for it is simple, you should know both how to score and how to supply goals. It is a position that has the most competition, as most talented Juven players are up in front and are very known across the multiverse for their prowess in front of the goal. As such, it is a position with a lot of pressure to be in, much like the goalkeeper. Wingers are fast, brilliant technicians who are excellent suppliers and have a confusingly good shooting technique. Strikers on the other, they have a strong finishing touch akin to an unstoppable force on a consistent level.

Cesare Ajello is known as a more conservative coach. The tactical ignorance of the Pomenienze for defensive output that is not just bursts of luck put squadra in a difficult position multiple times. This is something Ajello noticed and is willing to implement a different tactic. The Ajello Special.

The Ajello Special is a typical 4-4-2 formation that focuses on positional specialists. Players who not only embody their position but also help with the possession. The Ajello Special is a highly possession-based type of game, meant to sew the game up to par with the standards of Juvencus depending on each opponent. The attack starts from the back and slowly progesses forward, much like other Juven tactics the ball is meant to go to the side, but instead of having 4 wingers on each side, a reliance on two further back placed wingers with more space is given. Crosses or inward passing are the end goal. Defensively, there is a core of 4 defenders that can cover up each other's positions instead of relying on defensive midfielders to do the trick. The composition is meant to stick on a 4-4-2 consistently. Goals may not flood in with such a team, but a high conversion rate is instead favored. This is more on par to the early days of la squadra back in World Cup 77.

When it comes to penalties, the player who earns it takes it. When it comes to long-range free kicks, a midfielder will take it, while short-range free kicks are to be kicked by any of the wingers.

The stadium of the capital has a different vibe from the previous Vinceti Catedral, all this colorful vibrance suddenly turns into an intimidating atmosphere which accurately represents the deep history of the nation. The chants feel a lot like a call to arms, ready to strengthen the Juven players while drums rhythmically beat through the entirety of the game. If a goal is scored, the loudest screams are to be heard throught the entire city, every celebration starting from this place is an emotional, triumphant celebration, echoing through the nation. After hosting the 3rd place playoff of the Independent Associations Cup 16, it is a safe stadium to visit and the people in it will try to carry on the legacy.

Stadio Gianluca IV has been the home of AC Pomena for the past couple seasons and it has already created an impression as an impressive and daunting place to step into, let alone play. Expect the players and fanbase to have more of a grit in this stadium as it is building itself up to be a cathedral of dreams.

U.S Scudelli's ground, Il Scudelliano is the city's marvel. It is a square structure where the seats are literally next to the pitch, allowing for pitch invasions to happen at any time. Thankfully security personnel keep a tight look and as such they do not happen often. On the other hand, it also positively enhances the performances of the players by receiving positive chants from the fans this close to them while simultaneously making the pitch tremble as if there is an earthquake happening.

Located at the Toluja Ward of Scudelli, it is very easily accessible by all means such as cars, train, bus or whatever else. By train an individual would have to disembark at the Toluja, Scudelliano or Pax Pomen stations.

A stadium built and supported in majority by funds of its supporters, who own a large share of their favorite club, AS Aguajú. It has a sky blue roof(that is also color-changing) and an odd square shape. It has a reputation for being a stadium with an electric atmosphere, almost as if one is being inside a thunderstorm. The locals of Aguajú are known for their impulsivity and striking behavior when supporting their favorite sports teams, with gli attaccanti being no exception.

Located at the 29 Novembre Municipality, it is accessible by car, train or bus. By train it is reached by stopping at the 29 Novembre and Diletta Guietti stations.

Stade Colonial is perhaps owned by the most misleading club in all of Juvencus, Union Pomena. Located in the most staunchly Panjuvenist and colonialist quartiere di Fonseca in Pomena with a wonderful view of the Princess Daniella IV hill and is specifically designed in the way portals are meant to be designed around Juvencus. As a stadium it has a peculiar atmosphere, one may initially feel they are entering an elegant stadium in a royal area before the chants start becoming more and more aggressive and daunting. Expect flares and smoke.

It is accessible by car, bus and tram line the tram line 7 that traverses the entire coastline. Stops at Ernesto Munoa Square Station(which also serves a metro station) and Cuccitini Station are also viable options.

While box-to-box play is the norm, the team does not shy away from overhead long balls and solo runs to bring the pressure towards the opponent. The three forwards, while not explicitly strikers, can all act as strikers if needed and are always looking to exploit any space they can find – all acting as target players when able to. The fullbacks, while defensive, can act as supportive wingers, pressing the attack even more, creating width and overlapping runs to press the play towards the opposing side, while the centre-backs maintain a high defensive line to compress the spaces and create offside traps to ensure total control of the field and play, supported by the midfield to anchor the defence towards halfway of the field. TEAM HISTORY
After the long Elite Eleven era, the "real" form of the Kick Corps is back. These players are elite athletes who've been plying their trade in the DLK and abroad for the past few years. The national team is now back to "normal" and this Corps team seems to really be developing. A few familiar faces, freshened by the gift of immortality, have returned. That return hasn't gone great for them or the Corps at large, with now 2 manager firings in the 5 cycles. After an IAC QF loss in her first foray, manager Diana Levitt broke bizarre impotence of Drawkland soccer in World Cup qualifying in WC99. Add another IAC final appearance (and loss) and an Olympic gold medal, it seems like the Corps is on the up-and-up.
Drawkian soccer, and indeed, sporting in general, is mostly offensive-minded. This is reflected in the style indicator and in the formation. Drawkian soccer has not really been exposed to outside influences, and thus may look or feel strange to those used to "normal" football. Nevertheless, the players are still good at what they do, and prize in an enduring game, moving the ball around nearly constantly and keeping energy going, aiming to tire out the opposing team. Of course, Drawkians aren't humans, but you can read about that elsewhere. Drawkian Soccer is a female-only sport. This is because Gridiron Football is all-male, and the other two major sports, Baseball and Basketball, are mixed-gender. If there's anything a Drawkian loves, it's even formats and symmetric paradigms, hence why things shook out like they did.

Established during the times of Ancient Greek colonisation, the first Vdaran settlement was in the modern day capital city of Chania, where a valiant crew had stumbled upon after setting off from Athens, and decided to settle down. This settlement evolved into a city, and this city decided to set up its own settlements, spreading Vdaran culture and ideals across many of the Mediterranean islands, creating their own archipelago. The Vdaran archipelago would go on to change hands several times over the next few millennia, being held by the Turks, Venetians, and Greeks - to name just a few. Fast forward to the present, and now you have a gyro-eating, sports-loving nation with a people who are dedicated to following Vdaran football loudly and proudly. They’ve seen the highs, and they’ve seen the lows, and they’ll now see the present. Fiercely committed to defending their honour, every single Vdaran - from the players, to the coaches, to the ordinary man or woman chilling on their couch, shouting at their television - will be readily available to convince people that, no, Vdara are not has-beans. State-Approved Biography

The People’s Democratic Republic of Vdaran Western Territories, more commonly known as West Vdara, is a small group of islands located off the west coast of Africa. Having separated from the Republic of Vdara during a period of political turmoil for the ruling communist party (KKV), many of the nation’s important left-leaning figureheads fled to the newly-established nation to ensure the continuation of an ideal socialist paradise as Crete and Cyprus began to seek more moderate politics. Since then, West Vdara has enjoyed a period of relative peace and isolation, with neither the Republic nor the West seeking any form of immediate unification - in fact, quite the opposite, despite some attempts to mend and strengthen the ties between the two. The KKV have easily sustained political dominance in the country, having won every election since 1995, leading many to label West Vdara as a dictatorial, one-party state. Despite this, the KKV maintains that all elections are free and fair, decrying all doubters as ‘agents of Chania’ and preventing independent observers from keeping an eye on things.

There are seven islands that make up West Vdara:-

- Nifaria: With a population of just under a million, Nifaria is West Vdara's largest and most important island, with all government business going through the capital city of Agios Stavros. Mountainous and agricultural, Nifaria serves as the nation's main source of sustenance, with bananas and fish serving as crucial parts of the West Vdaran palate. Most footballers from the squad hail from this island.

- Kanaria: Slightly smaller in both population and landmass, Kanaria could just as easily be called "Nifaria's wee brother". The island nonetheless serves as West Vdara's industrial hub, with factories and ports across the island allowing it to be the nation's transport and export hub.

- Ploufialia: Small and agricultural, Ploufialia is mainly known for its vineyards more than anything else. This does, however, mean that West Vdaran wine is quite divine.

- Ombrion: A rather unassuming island, Ombrion is primarily known for its avocados and cattle - as well as its volcanic activity, making the soil extremely fertile and thus very suitable for agricultural usage.

- Tzounonia: Miniscule and boring. Let's move on [NOTHING SECRET IS OCCURRING ON THIS ISLAND].

- Planasia: One of the larger islands by landmass (but not by population), Planasia's size and lack of population allows for it to be used as West Vdara's dairy and cereals capital, with nationalised cheeses and grains making their way to the rest of the islands from the various farms and mills.

The government of the Vdaran Western Territories has made sure to appoint the best person from the job: Ivanis Grigorelis. Born on Tzounonia in 1972, Ivanis' humble upbringing and his parents' connections to the state allowed him to seamlessly rise through the ranks. Additionally, having been a long-time neighbour of the Minister for Sport, Culture, and Nationhood, it was inevitable that he would be given some form of government position - so why not management, one of the highest honours of them all? Furthermore, Mr. Grigorelis will be assisted by several men in immaculate suits and sunglasses, who we can call [REDACTED], but who you can call 'tactical analysts'. You will find yourself getting rather familiar with these ‘technical analysts’, and we are compelled to inform you about their expertise in classical martial arts.

Lisander Football Federation isn't a big player in international football. It has tried to make the national team popular through honest methods (and had its spot to World Cup jeopardized by officials of a certain, dishonest nation). It has tried through dishonest methods (like automatically, not ethically or sports merit, selected players), but nothing happened. General audience turned eyes to Rugby, popularising and expanding the sport that once was considered “just for the rich in Soria”. Football got stagnant, lost space. Salaries, outside the current top three teams (AS Virtus 1904, Club Sparta, AC Kasandora) aren't that awesome also. So this put the Lisanderian men in a less-than-comfortable position. FLF and Premiership, however, keep putting more money on the lower strata, and in the formation of the new players, sending teams for DBC and U18WC. However, we know this is a long-term strategy, that's always possible to fail (and it failed as Lisander failed to provide DBC and U18WC teams for a while).

And there's also another question. FLF and Clubs live in constant conflict. The constant disputes between the Federation, that stands for the National team almost as a “Patriotic Duty” and the National League whose official standpoint “National Representative Teams” as a waste of time for the professional athletes. Some pacification was tried during the tenure of Adrian Stannis, then a former Premiership executive, as the FLF President, but after a snap election that replaced him with Tiago Moran, things soured again.

That was when Ricardo Navarre appeared. Better saying, was found. He had been an average midfielder during his career. He never had enough individual quality to be called-up for the National Team or to make impact, but his precise passes and good ability with youth in AS Virtus 1904 put him on the good eyes of the federation. The man climbed up the ladder, training the age-grade groups of the national team (where international playing is more rare and the players are not professionals, so “national representative teams” are not a waste, but more like “opportunity for growing”) until reaching the helm of the National Eleven Team. The man took on the destiny of the National team on its hands, becoming a true manager figure.

In an interview to Trophy, he detailed what were the first reactions after being handed the position.

“So. I was in my house, and in that time I wasn't married yet, and I was about to leave for lunch with my wife, that's my wife now, if you watch this, love you, Anna… And the assistant of the President called me. She said: Mr Moran e-mail you and asks for an answer as soon as possible, as the board is starting planning for next cycles”. And look, to be honest with you, I hate e-mails. I check all my e-mails once everyday, around 4:30 PM when I get home from gym, then it's all. So I'm about to leave to have dinner with Anna, we're planning wedding stuff, moving, all of that [bleep] you have to change and I have to stop everything to read. So I go to my laptop I had just turned off, and there's this message, the header is URGENT, PLEASE ANSWER IMMEDIATELY. It has been sent like four minutes before, so Moran expected an immediate answer, like. He just wrote the e-mail, sent it and asked his assistant to call me. And when I opened the e-mail I just felt “Yes” was the only appropriate answer, but I needed someone to like, to confirm that was the right thing to do. And man, how I missed Mr. Fox. Andreas Fox was coach of the National Team for a long time, and he was absurdly respected by everyone. Every club president received him with due respect, and I felt that the Federation was in sort of a bad position with the clubs.

So I tried calling my reference of a manager, Alan Mormont (AS Virtus 1904 coach). And Alan is an old man, he's like 75 now. He was my age when he started to coach and he was my coach for many years. I asked him what would he do and he said. 'Just accept. You have my entire team if you need'. And that was a surprise, because Virtus was a club usually very vocal against federation demands. I've been in board meetings before, I knew that. So when I asked about that, about the relationship between club and federation, he gave me the answer I needed. 'Moran might think he rules FLF. But he doesn't. The man can't even deal a manufacturer contract. As the manager, you're the face of the team. You'll be the one to get the beatings if the situation goes bad. He's like a professional politician or something. He can't execute or decide anything, he just got that because of the government backing to small teams. People on Ministry of Sport, the bureaucrats... But the real position of power is the one at the side of the field. You have discretionary powers. The decision is yours. There will be teams that won't release players? Sure will. They're club employees. No team will pay a player's salary for them to be not working. But the backlash, you leave that to the public opinion...' That's what I did, I decided to silence any outer, non-footballing influence in my choice. I called Moran, accepted the position, then cut off his talk and went to lunch with my wife-to-be. I had a lots of plans, to be honest, and was hard to turn off, but when I arrived there, I just said 'Anna, I was promoted. Probably I'll be able to exchange my car for a new one now.'"

And little by little, with a polite diplomatic stance, almost impersonal, Navarre stands as a manager, searching his own way. He was able to deal with clubs and the Federation, to have a bigger pool of athletes to call.

How the team plays

Navarre is known by a fast-paced, pass-oriented football, as much as his pairs in Lisander football teams. As usual, football players are more lean than rugby ones, so in Lisander, athletes that are less bulky usually choose the spherical ball. When without the ball, they usually mark man-to-man, trying to offer the less of possible space. His favourite formation is 4-3-3, but with high movement players like Christian Nantel (AS Virtus), and Leo Artemon (Club Sparta) usually on his roster, it's possible that the positions on-field look more like a 4-2-4 or even a 4-1-2-3.

His starter team has Michaelichen, Rosell and Neville as the hard core of defence, closing in and distributing plays to the sides. Florian and Kaplanoski, as fast sidebacks, move the team from the right and left, respectively. Saber Neville, team Captain, commands the actions from the exact centre of the field and is able to return and defend "The Never Area". It's called like that because it's a critical area. Side passing is forbidden and possession must be kept at all costs. Navarre says it's better to risk a pass outside than allowing a free ball between 3 and 4. Nantel on the right and Camden on the left complete the midfield. Both are very technical, quality players with vision of the game and good passing, and they work with the forwards. Brax on the right, Hiltmann on the left and the younger, more explosive Artemon as the main, front bombardier on the team. However, as this team plays with a ‘pass-madness’ style, in which everyone is always moving to get open for a shot, we can infer that the chart is more of a formality.

The team that starts the Qualifiers is basically the same that played in WC98, with little differences. Vitor Marin, aged 36, retired, and was replaced, as expected, by the longtime leading goalkeeper of the team, Anders Michaelichen. Martin Garmin also stepped down to the much needed renovation of goalkeeping team, giving Julio Altona, AS Virtus 1904 goalkeeper his first "fair chance", as he had been playing as part of the C.R.A.P (Random Assigned Team) that played in WC94, but he admitted to do that only for the money. Other player returning to the starter 11 is Lukas Hiltmann, that gets the spot left by Leon Wiel. Club Sparta and AS Virtus 1904 are the biggest providers for the team, and quite a number of these players had played under Navarre nonetheless, whether in Virtus Academy or in FLF youth teams.

After a (quite successful) marketing ploy at the World Cup 98, Lisander National Football returned to using its usual uniform manufacturer. These uniforms are expected to be used through this cycle, including but not limited to the next editions of Women's World Cup, Astycup, Di Bradini Cup and Sporting World Cup. The home shirt is the traditional green, with a polo collar, cuffs and side panels in yellow. There's a texture of fleurs-de-lis on the green fabric. The federation made a tiny update in the national team logo, that now has the name of the nation above it. It was intended to difference from their qualifying rivals, Macbon, whose national coat of arms is remarkably similar to the FLF logo. White shorts and green socks complete the kit.

It's expected that when the National 11 visit Macbon in these qualifiers, they wear the Away Uniform, a white jersey with a graphic of light teal stripes that start at the chest that enlarge and go through the hem. The same color is used for the shorts and socks.

As it's common for these goalkeepers, they use whatever the manufacturer provides, and for this season, the first option for keepers is purple with dark yellow details, for both shirt, shorts and socks.

Soria Park was selected to receive the first four home matches of World Cup Qualifiers since Nordland Metropolitano has artificial grass and Estádio Albert II (From local team Racing Club de Soria) was "intentionally unaavailable". The stadium is, in fact, a property of URSA (Soria and Azhaar Rugby Union), but it was leased to FLF for the required dates. From its original capacity of 30.000, only 24,000 seats will be sold per match, with 10% of these seats offered to the visiting nation to sell. Soria Park is one of the stadiums in Lisander that accepts digital money/LSiD transactions only (read more about LSiD below). It was the host of countless editions of URSA Sevens, the somewhat-famous Autumn Rugby Sevens tournament in Lisander, as well as the next one, planned for next november, stay tuned. Alternatively, it is also the home stadium for Victorian Rugby and Harlequins of the TOP 12, as neither of the two teams has its own stadium. As a football stadium, it ocasionally receives matches of Soria Union, when its main home, Nordland Metropolitano, isn't available.

Sirenia, on the opposite, is known for welcoming the national team, and Club Sparta is always happy to have its players donning the national colours at home. The Estádio Sparta, built by Lutz Family (the owners of the Club) from its former textile fabric. It seats around 38,000 with seats very close to the field, so the likes of 34,000 Spartiate (and other teams's fans) will certainly make some impression in the four last games of the qualifiers, since 4,000 seats will be offered to the visiting federation to sell. Foreigners on tourist or work visas are not mandated to use the LSiD for any purpose, nor can they be forced to deposit money in it, but they can be fined or detained for not being in possession of it, under the allegation of being “undocumented illegal immigrants”.

Manager

A third tournament for the Red Turtles and a third manager: it’s quite peculiar after all. After the WC99 qualifiers, Archibald Price was kindly asked to step down (read: was given the boot) after some controversy over his choice of ‘permitted’ Jouko Pesonen into the selection. As we all know, permitted are people who live in Anewkansas on a ‘yellow permit’, a card which allows them to be employed in the nation for a nondescript number of years and who have been brought in to boost the economic activity of a certain branch. It works quite well, with more and more of these sorts of deals being made with foreign nations who have an abundance of labor force. Two years after the controversy, players such as Pesonen are allowed on strict conditions (living in Anewkansas for seven years and having been under the age of 18 at arrival) but that does not mean Price will return, even if he performed more than decently in his qualifying run.

His successor Everett Steadman will not make a return appearance either, despite winning the Cup of Harmony against all odds. Whether the team won because of, or despite, Steadman (a blatant plug from the secret services) will remain a mystery forever but that his relation with the players group was explosive was clear to see. With that in mind, the AFA took the surprisingly sane decision to end the contract with Steadman and to pick an actual football coach. The choice fell to Trevor Augustus and that was, to say the least, not undisputed. Everyone agrees that the 45-year-old manager is innovative and communicative but in his last two clubs, he did not make the end of the first season. Fun and joy is all well, but can Augustus reach results with this selection?

The man at the center of any and all controversy so far, much against his own will. But Jouko Pesonen will return and with the official number one on his back. Let there be no doubt, the lanky, spider-like Pesonen is the best keeper to ply his trade on Anewkansan territory. But for a certain section of the audience, he will never be seen as full. A disappointing thing, as they miss out on a goalie who adds reflexes, air dominance and more than decent feet, a combination yet to be found in someone whose crib happened to stand on Anewkansan clay. The (for a goalie) short and (for a human being) energetic Powell made his peace with a stand-in role and gets generally lauded for his teamspirit. He’s a decent alternative, nothing less, nothing more. As a third option, the talented Rhys Pierce emerges. He might not be the third-best goalkeeper yet, but the question is not if but when he will be the best.

One of the ways in which Augustus made his mark on the selection was to pick Piotr Gaziewski to rejuvenate the backline. In a way, both centre backs enjoy a studs-first tackle, but Merrick has a better chance to get away with it. The defensive viewpoint of our national team shows in the starting position of the unadventurous yet efficient starting role for Hullbacher. ‘Bay’ Rivers will try to penetrate enemy territory a bit more but don’t expect anything resembling ‘sexy’ football from this defensive line. On the bench, there are more troops in that same vein in officer Stafford and a duo of military men in Almsund and Walls. The two became champions twice with the Sixth and can organize a back line, but will focus on stopping opposition. In that sense, Jaffrenou is an intriguing wildcard: a fullback who can overlap and cross to bring on when times require it.

The five-player midfield gets anchored by two players who will police the traffic in their own way. Guy Marchand is not afraid to cut down the opposition and rarely leaves the field without a card (requiring back-up van Dam to make a good number of minutes as well). On the other hand, there is deep lying playmaker McIntyre who is crucial to pick up balls in the back and restart play. Theoretically, the game plan revolves around Marcus Puckett whose football skills highly outweigh his interpersonal potential: he believes the earth also revolves around him. To compensate for that, Augustus continues the faith in a reliable assistant, the infiltrating and omnipresent Sevilla, who is that one Sporting player everybody likes. Remarkably, Augustus cuts down to four midfielders, benching added values such as the clever Herrington who always finds a way to speed up the rhythm, the highly promising Doucouré who made the infiltrating pass a new artform and the hardworking Shaffer. To his credit, Augustus looked beyond the usual names and added young new names, although it is an open question whether he will make use of their rather attacking profiles. Playmaker Guerra and the dribbling Doherty showed their potential in the domestic Premier League while Ridgeway was a crucial part of the victorious U21 side.

In the past, it was easy. One attacker up front and then the choice fell to Pershing Major, who comes from a longstanding line of Majors, majors and other military personnel. ‘Percy’ (as everyone out of earshot calls him) is a graceful attacker who makes war in the box, possesses two good feet and can deliver a thundering shot. But Augustus decided to pair him with the OC’s brightest prospect, Lemar Philips. Fast, both with quick feet and mind, he is a menace in the box. Philips owns the brawl of a track sprinter and whether that will match the stiff upper lip of Major has been the debate that plagues the tabloids already for months. It is not unfair to say that Augustus’ faith depends on their capability to work out the classic ‘tall guy, fast guy’ combination into something more than the sum of its parts. Do expect a lot through the center and as little possession as needed with these two. Their understudies are not a carbon copy version. The towering Errol Blanton definitely adds a better work rate: he is not a striking machine but can allow a team to move forward. Royal Novak got a surprising first call-up as a classic poacher with a mean shot: a player you can only like if he’s on your team.

Stadium

Welcome to Bridgehead! Or Oakling. The home games will be split between Fallstaff Stadium and St Julie’s Den. The former, located in the capital, is a modern, soulless block of concrete that can sell a lot of tickets. Away fans are stuck in a blind corner but otherwise everything will be cleanly handled, including close proximity to the airport. For close games, the FA could fall back to the Oakling option, a smaller but atmospheric venue with a lot of standing areas. Expect flares and smoke bombs there, apparently they are cheaper in this coastal hub. The away dressing room has an extremely inconvenient wall along the middle.

General Style

When it comes to stylish, there is a simple rule: the Turtles play in a red shirt. Full stop. Our kit manager does not care that that is your preferred colour as well and will only bargain with regards to the shorts and socks (default blue-white, but optionally all white or all black). He has a categorical belief that it frightens the opposition and every manager so far is afraid of him. That kit guy is a psychotic skinhead, you know. Goalkeepers play in that chemical blue hue that can be seen from a mile away.

As a football team, Anewkansas will be an annoying opponent: they play physical football and will not shy away from intimidating opposing players. Star midfielders especially should tape in their ankles with an extra layer. On the counterattack, you can expect them to move forward fast and in numbers, but they will crawl back to their own half just as fast. If you can crack the code, make sure to create a gap, quickly. As long as the difference is just one goal, we will turn down the sportsmanship button a few notches more: diving, pushing, spitting, … You name it. But if you truly overpower Anewkansas, they can fall apart like dry sand.

Organisational Stuff

If my opponent posts first, they can decide scorers, hand out cards and give injuries. No killing without discussing it first with me. Unless it's like, genius writing. But if you act silly, I will be silly as well. Same goes for godmodding, you can go crazy if you want but if it’s in poor taste, I might retaliate. Or not. Practically anything goes. But whatever happens, we wear red shirts.

In the “BP System” or the “BP Way” (neither of those should be considered as something used officially or unofficially—if you wanted to term it as such as something of your own IC creation, go for it) the 3-4-1-2 is more literal than the manner in which it's used RL.
A discussion I had with another user made me contemplate providing a bit more concrete info on just who plays where when you see my lineups/bench for individual matches.
Defense: the three backs play tight to one another when the ball is in the middle or defensive thirds—they should really be termed LCB/CCB/RCB. The outside pair will never be wider than diameter of the center circle. They both man-mark (unless there is an IC tactical reason they don't) and the centerback zonal marks (usually helping one of the other two). The CB is technically a fullback as they have more freedom to move forward with the ball at feet. In a pinch, an emergency situation as a sub, they could all play any of the three positions.
Midfield: there is a good deal of set responsibility among the four across midfield, but the one thing that is always a constant is the wings are the workhorses, they cover more distance than the other players. I've hinted at or flat out said in match reports in the past that left wing (and they are 99.9% of time always left footed) is THE talismanic position in The System, as right fullback is considered (in BP) as usually the weakest position in a flat back four.
The two central midfielders usually have a specific role, one as the playmaker, the distributor and the other as the defensive, hard tackler, disruptor, ball winner.
The preferred position is listed first, but the ones that follow show how versatile that player is. For CM's the left/right designation is the stronger side for that player, but in theory almost anyone in midfield can play in the center of midfield.
Forward: Ah yes, the wild card element. In this case, the differentiation should be looked at from the perspective of another sport—basketball.
The three positions are almost adapted from the indoor game: the center forward, the target man, the number 9—the one who plays up front but facing away from the goal. Mostly it's men who hold down this role in the NT, although not always.
The striker—they want to be played into an area by a pass, or want room to get a touch before shooting. They face goal, but usually in or very close to the box.
The 'slot'--what a lot of people call the attacking midfielder or the CAM. This is a player that can dribble and create their own shot, or draw defenders and find others. There's a reason why this position can be played by a midfielder or a forward and the rationale usually depends on a chemistry between a pair or trio, but more recently this has reverted back to a forward spot.
In conclusion—BP should always be RP'd (of course at your discretion, and I will always adapt to anyone who RP's first if something that's not necessarily canon is mentioned) as--

Nickname--since the end of the 1960's the National Team has been known as "The Bees", a period when the team's uniforms consisted of alternating black and gold hoops.
Previous to that time and subsequently through periods in the 1980's and 90's, the team was usually referred to by the county's national animal, the Elks; the women's National Team were always 'Lady Elks' until the advent of mixed gender play, which was revived during the Jenna Raven Cup and there are still numerous mentions of Elks in the supporters song “We are the Gold & Black”, which currently has close to 175 stanzas.

Bigger and better than ever before, the National Stadium is home to Aeolis United, everyone's favorite team^{[citation needed]} who have won the past three seasons of the SuperLeague. Incidentally, the new renovation has made it so that one goalkeeper can shout and the other goalie can hear it. National Stadium is accessible by tram lines 2, 5, 9, and 13, and that is probably the way your team will be getting there - there are no cars, buses, planes, or trains in the MIR, and I doubt an entire football team will be cycling halfway across Aeolis Base.

After a lot of protest, Aeolis's second stadium has been picked to host WCQ matches. Xuesen is accessible via tram lines 2, 6, and 14, and it is within 5 minutes' walk of some of Mars's most famous restaurants.

If you're playing here, get ready for some crazy shenanigans, quite a bit of wind, and travel sickness. Qureshi is just a couple minutes' walk from where your shuttle will come in, so it's unlikely that you'll be taking the tram there, but if you are, it's accessible by tram line 3.
