Even as the press release made its way to embassies, newsrooms, and command centers across the world, another wave of dispatches—this time marked Urgent, Operational—was already racing across encrypted military networks and civilian-grade phone lines alike. In naval bases along the southern coasts of Allanea, klaxons wailed and loudspeakers barked out orders.

Enlisted men burst from their barracks and workshops—some still in blue maintenance coveralls, others barely changed out of civilian attire—sprinting toward the piers where warships were already warming their engines. The waters of the southern seas churned with activity as cranes swung pallets of munitions aboard, and crews hauled lines, preparing their vessels for imminent departure.

Inland, the tempo was no less fevered. At military airbases, the cavernous hangars of the Royal Strategic Aviation Command echoed with the thunder of awakening engines. Massive long-range bombers rolled out into the sunlight, their bellies heavy with ordnance, escorted by sleek fighter squadrons forming up for combat air patrols. Even civilian airports had become staging grounds.

Airliners bearing the winged crown emblem of the Ministry of War were guided onto the tarmac, where entire regiments of soldiers in moss-green combat uniforms stood in organized lines, boarding with quiet efficiency. To the untrained eye, it looked almost like a mass exodus—orderly, calm, procedural. But the glint in their eyes and the tension in the air told a different story. This was not routine. This was the machinery of war, moving once again.

She'd just met with the Chancellor-Elect, the outgoing Chancellor, and the Chancellorial candidates and party leaders of the four major Palmyrian parties that ran for the recently-concluded 2025 Elections, a bloody one that saw widespread attempts at electoral strongarming and violence as depositionist movements sought to derail elections and trigger a color revolution that would see a monarchy and the royal dynasty toppled in a brutal deposition.

The Crown wins by not losing.

Now, as her own husband Jason set off to fight on his home turf as it burned from depositionist riots and DRA takeovers of local villages, here she stood, at a well-worn copy of the Association of New Empires' charter, her hands shaking angry and her face flushed furious. Saresse had been a mortal enemy of Palmyrion over the past century over Gracemary and Araghela, both of whom have brokered an alliance of convenience as Gracemary's motherland burned with internal strife.

It was a maxim drilled into her head every since she was born. Ever since that suicide attack in 2016 almost killed her. Ever since her brother, the late Lakan Alexander II, was assassinated. Ever since she rose to the throne just 5 months back. This was her life now, to carry and wield the power and responsibility of the Crown. And wield it with decisive might she would.

It was the principle of cariño brutal - tough love. Harsh, tough love. A love that corrected harshly where wrong, and rewarded greatly where right. The Air Force and the Navy, the primary bringers of thermonuclear wrath, were put on high alert, ready to deploy their nuclear-tipped ALCMs and SLBMs when Her Majesty willed it. While Palmyrion had no land-based underground silos, as was the limitation of an archipelagic mountainous jungle monarchy wracked by insurgency in the remote areas, it made up for it in air-launched and submarine-launched nuclear strike capacity from airbases along the islands.

They had been in DEFCON 2 for as long as her current generation could remember. For years, they have been in DEFCON 3 due to high-intensity insurgency in the remote highlands, and the Palmyro-Einheitswelt Blockade War brought them to DEFCON 2, to the edge of a thermonuclear tomorrow. They have been on edge since, especially as a state of war still existed with Einheitswelt and Palmyrion, two nuclear powers with knives aimed at each other's throats.

Now, with four nuclear-armed powers aiming their missiles at the Palmyrian nation, nuclear war was imminent. With four superpowers now equipping insurgencies on Palmyrian soil, her homeland threatened to burn brighter, with a fire that didn't warm but instead consumed.

It was her coronation by fire.

EXPLICIT THREATS OF TOTAL WAR

Deniable cyberwar assets would be employed against Greznov's financial, academic, state, and media entities, primarily through the use of Distributed Denial-Of-Service (DDOS) attacks and deepfake content conducted with the help of the Dark Web and the Deep Web, facilitated by garlic and onion routing (going through the dark web before resurfacing in surface web servers hosted in Greznov) that would further anonymize the attacker and help the Royal Commonwealth wash its hands clean of the cyberattack on Greznov, and an international network of botnets funded or operated by the Intelligence Community striking from multiple locations across the globe. These DDOS attacks would be compounded with the use of attacks using metamorphic malware - primarily ransomware, overwrite worms, and boot sector worms - on aforementioned Greznovan assets, further complicating the attacks done on their cyberinformational apparatus.

One such malware used against was the MAHALKITA ransomware, a metamorphic malware that would hold the system hostage for the low, low price of $1000, with a message attached:

Another piece of malware that would be employed against Greznov would be the WALANGFOREVER worm, a metamorphic overwrite space-filling boot sector worm with the same damage mechanism as ILOVEYOU.

WALANGFOREVER masquerades as a fake intelligence report on Palmyrian Navy and Air Force dispositions and orders of battle, giving it a massive social engineering veneer. Upon opening the file, all the user is given is images and videos of Rick Astley's famous "Never Gonna Give You Up" - and their hard drive filling up with .txt files that simply say "WALANGFOREVER". WALANGFOREVER also searches for connected drives for files to modify. All VBScript (.vbs, .vbe), executable (.exe), and BAT (.bat) files are overwritten with the worm's code, and files with extensions .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .js, .jse, .css, .wsh, .sct, .doc/.docx, .xls/.xlsx, and .hta are replaced with copies of the worm that have the same base file name but appended with the .vbs extension. Copies for .mp3 and .mp4 files are similarly produced, but the original files are hidden instead of removed.

It also downloads a trojan that steals usernames and passwords, as well as any contact details tied with access credentials to the system. WALANGFOREVER also targets antivirus software, simply by overwriting and corrupting their files as is appropriate for its overwriting, space-filling mode of destruction.

Deepfake pornography targeting major Greznov state officials - particularly the current Demokratikkayser, Eitdrich von Blummenberg - would be created and published en masse, a large-scale cyberwar effort made possible through popular artificial intelligence technology combined with the use of botnets. The deepfake pornography featured Eitdrich in deeply compromising positions, at the receiving end of violent degradation in homosexual and transsexual content. Alternatively, deepfake pornography depicting Eitdrich as violating the Palmyrian Lakambini - while Jason the Consort Royal watched nearby, screaming - would also be published, carefully prompted, edited, and published (with content released from and through servers and data centers located in Greznov, hired by front assets - frontmen and front firms, especially - employed by the Palmyrian Intelligence Community) to look like it was done by the Greznov Ofis for Intelijenoperesyens (Office for Intelligence Operations), Eitdrich loyalists, and the Altegarde in a smear campaign against Her Majesty.

Eitdrich von Blummenberg would also be the subject of a series of deepfaked conversations purporting to be leaked recordings of the Demokratikkayser expressing his wishes to conquer Palmyrion, install a Slavik principal class to establish Slavik minoritarian rule over the Palmyrian isles, take for himself the women of the royal family and collect them for his harem (a harem conjured or speculated yet again using botted deepfakes), and enslave the men of the royal family (with an explicit mention of Jason, which he calls "that lowborn gorilla").

EITDRICH: Oh my, you know what I'm going to do when I conquer Palmyrion?

ALTEGARDE OFFICER: Do tell. I am interested.

EITDRICH: I am going to install the Slaviks as a principal racial class, ruling the Palmyrians through minoritarian autocracy. Then, once I give the position of Demokratikkayser to a Slavik, I shall head over to Palmyrion and install myself as Conqueror and Autocrat of the Palmyrians. I heard the Royal Citadel cooks good dishes.

ALTEGARDE: What about the tribes? The ethnolinguistic groups? The religious groups, particularly the Stevidian Catholic majority, the Marshites, and the Ithronel?

EITDRICH: Tribes that refuse to civilize on our terms, on the terms of the Slavik race, shall be expunged and expelled from their homelands to make way for a race of settlers guided by the civilizing care of the Slavik race. I'm told the Igorots of the Palmyrian Cordilleras never truly abandoned their headhunting, tribal war, and mountaineering tradition, and the Ibanags of the Cagayan Valley are still heathen worshippers of water; that shall be corrected. To say nothing of the heathen barbarism of intercropping that our fair Greznov has expunged from its lands; it is defiling and sanctimonious for a field to grow two crops, and yet here the Palmyrian heathens promote it!

EITDRICH: Oh, and the Palmyrian royal family? I shall seize their women, particularly those bitches named Jilliane and Mavis, and enslave their men! Especially that Jason, who I'm told has lowly beginnings. Kicked out from his slumghetto apartment in metropolitan Alexandria when he was four, lived rough on the streets for a year, moved back to his father's village to farm, fish, and herd. That gold-digger, who married, fucked, and penetrated his way to power, deserves to be taught a lesson, and a reminder of where he belongs; that lowborn gorilla shall be made to work the fields for the Slavik minoritarian principality class!

Tramp, tramp, tramp.

Through the wide and sunlit streets of Alexandria they came, a host of green-clad men from the Air Assault Regiment, their marching a thunderous song upon the stones. They had not come merely to shield the realm of Palmyrion from harm - for such was already decreed and done by higher councils. No, the Ministry of War in its grim wisdom had spoken: “It is not enough to guard allies from afar; they must see that we stand with them, and hear it with their hearts”.

Thus the men marched - six abreast, a living wall of resolve - beneath the banners and watchful towers of the city. Their raiment was no fanciful garb of festival or feast-day, but a sterner kind of dress: battle-uniforms, merely pressed and neatened for the occasion. Blue berets, worn at a jaunty angle, took the place of helmets. The collars of their shirts lay open just so, revealing the blue-striped undershirts beneath - a quiet nod to distant traditions.

Tramp, tramp, tramp.

No polish gilded the bayonets at their chests. Blackened and dull, they drank the sunlight without reflection - a grim forest of steel, upright and silent, affixed to every rifle, held firm against every breast.
In the forelines strode the veterans - men who had endured the fire and fury of Diyaristan’s crags and the choking ambushes of the Qaidi plains. Their uniforms bore medals like silver leaves upon dark boughs, each one hard-won in places where the wind carried gun-smoke and sorrow.

Boots rose, and boots fell. A terrible beat echoed, steady and sure, like war-drums of old - and above the iron rhythm, as the columns moved, the singing began to rise.

Overhead the clouds are grey –
But above the clouds is sky.
Here, on liberty’s land,
We live and die.

Foes prepare their plots,
Knife in nefarious hand.
But in their firing spots,
Freemen shall stand.

But it would not be these few alone - brave and seasoned though they were - who would bear the burden of defending Palmyrion from the shadow that stirred beyond its borders. No - in distant Allanea, beyond the seas and the sunrise, the hammer was already being raised a second and a third time.

Even now, beneath the waves, silent hunters stirred - submarines slipping from their hidden lairs, their prows turned toward distant waters. In the skies above, the roar of engines rang out as aircraft launched into the firmament - among them great strategic bombers, heavy with fuel for the long flight eastward, and swift fighter-jets, broken into parts and stowed within the cavernous holds of cargo craft like seeds of war awaiting the sowing.

Nor would the third wave tarry long. Ground forces – several regiments by count- were being mustered, their gear stacked and bound for embarkation. Cargo ships would bear them over the sea, and alongside them them would sail the carrier battlegroups. They would deny the enemies of Palmyrion its land, its sea, and even its sky .

Palmyri cyberterror assets conduct unwarranted offensive against civil infrastructure in Greznov
Targets did not include any military infrastructure, according to MDF insiders

In an unwarranted attack this past Tuesday, assets funded by and related to the state apparatus of the Royal Palmyrian Commonwealth conducted widescale cyber-attacks on infrastructure in the nation of Greznov. Utilizing methods and avenues of attack deemed by insiders with the MDF's Joint Signals Management Command (JSMC) as 'traceable' and 'relatively poorly masked', Palmyri hacker groups employed a variety of means to disable, disrupt, and destroy primarily civilian infrastructure within the Empire of Greznov.

The Empire has made waves in recent weeks as it was at the forefront of the foundation of the Association of New Empires, defined by its charter as a "united front in defense" seeking "balance, deterrence, and strategic advancement"; placing attention squarely at the foot of Palmyrion, to whom the charter cites as a "growing" and "unchecked" threat to those signatories. Palmyrion, likely provoked and moving reactively against a perceived threat to its geopolitical aims, chose to strike first asymmetrically. Primarily, the attacks were targeted at non-military infrastructure, including banks, places of education, administrative centers, and newsmedia outlets.

MERDEF was able to speak on the condition of anonymity and the withholding of classified information with an officer, interviewed with the pseudonym of Captain Maruko; who is assigned to JSMC's 14th Cyberelectronic Warfare Group. The 14th CWG is a signals intelligence group responsible for monitoring threats and activity beyond the Esvanovian sphere.

"There was a pretty broad- if not particularly in-depth- attempt to mask the source of the attacks, but if you smell (excrement), the source is always upwind somewhere;" the Captain said with regards to Palmyri attempts to mask the source of their attacks. "For example, the ransomware was written and coded in the Palmyrian language, which propagated a message attempting to extort affected users. Contemporary research indicates that the most likely victims of ransomware attacks are those most vulnerable to its affects- underprivileged, undereducated and or senior citizens. It's likely those funds are going to go right back into the terror groups deploying them, in a vicious cycle of exploitation, multiplying like cancer cells across the cyberspace."

While other attacks included computer worms, directed denial of service (DDoS) attacks and other forms of malware uploaded to civil electronic infrastructures, a separate angle of information warfare was conducted by Palmyrian cyberterror assets, particularly targeted at the leader of Greznov, Demokratikkayser Eitdrich von Blummenberg, depicting him in degrading sexual positions in attempts to defame his character.

"Honestly, that wasn't the strangest thing I've seen;" Captain Maruko told MERDEF reporters when asked about Palmyrian info-warfare operations. "Artificially generative content, particularly those containing what we call 'dynamic' signatures- this put simply being things such as motion video and speech- are still relatively infantile in their development. What this means is that not only can trained eyes determine that these contents are indeed fake due to artifacts and generative errors, many times you're also able to determine by how a video is generated- including by the composition of its datafiles- the heritage or even specific identity of the generative model used to create these deepfake videos. This has been particularly useful in counteracting Kaskaidan and Arcadian misinformational campaigns- but in this case, you don't even need to go that far."

"Palmyrian state-associated talking heads and media platforms constantly espouse a scenario or fantasy where aggressor parties to their state regime intend to establish minority rule over Palmyrion. Disturbingly specifically- even more disturbing, honestly, is the consistency and frequency- these talkers like to portray these aggressor parties as dead-set on enslaving and raping the women and murdering the men. There were a specific subset of videos that were rerouted to be published by IP addresses associated to Greznov, with the same artifacts and tells belonging to Palmyrian generative models. Part of me has to wonder if the woman's secretly into this stuff, seeing how she hasn't made any attempt to have her supporters stop using that rhetoric. The Meridonian government, nor the Defense Forces, have made any official statement on the growing tensions between the Association of New Empires and the Palmyrian state. Some of Palmyrion's aligned states, particularly the Free Kingdom of Allanea, have deployed substantial military forces to the far-flung islands in order to deter potential adversaries. Whether these cyberattacks will lead to further escalation of tensions is yet to be seen.

"Sure did, miss." Karl Stortebeker frowned, clicking his pen twice for emphasis. "Not a lot of heavy hardware. Allaneans in parade-formation, Americans as well. Latter brought along some tanks and are moving in a full airborne division - as publicly confirmed. Allaneans look like they've brought along the better part of a regiment."

"Sharp eye, lad." The young gun-runner-turned-Abwehr attache whistled appreciatively as she watched rows upon rows of men march past; Allanean paratroopers with bayonets glinting, American troops with their Christinaslander-like quick-march.

"They could bring the hurt if they wished to, Hauptgefreiter."

"Oh, I can see that."

"What, just from these? They look pretty, yes. But the parade is a facade - appearances matter here more than the actual troops being paraded."

"They want to give a big show of it."

"Yes. The real thing one ought to fear is not those paratroopers outside. You have done your homework, yes?"

"Ma'am, my job is to guard the embassy."

"Surely you have a bit of intellectual curiosity about who these 'Allaneans' are."

"...A little. Of the two they're the more interesting of the bunch. The Americans are familiar - much like the Christinaslanders, and somewhat like the Meridonians. Heavier than the latter, less equipped to deal with a CBRN conflict than the former. At least, nominally."

"That is correct; broadly-speaking. And your impressions of Allanea?"

"...I don't know what to make of it. It's - big. Powerful. Dwarfs us, dwarfs even Christinasland. Lots of fingers in every pie. Longswords and landmines, trench-flails and -systems." He paused. "There was - an interesting...episode, a bit back, that stuck out to me. Something about a Killbox."

"You're hitting on it. Time - time to prepare - that is the most dangerous thing you can give an Allanean."

"That is true for all of us, isn't it?"

"Yes. It is especially true for them, and especially in this case. Give them time to prepare and they will dig in, lay their clever little minefields and trenches, disperse and zero in their AShM batteries. That is the true danger. These?" She gave a contemptuous little wave towards a company of Allanean paratroopers, in their mottled-green camouflage and the barest hints of blue-and-white telnyashkas. "On their own? Fodder."

"I wouldn't say that."

"Against men with flipflops, sure. But II. Marinebrigade? 8th Uhlans? In a fair fight?"

"And therein's the rub, right? Fair fight."

"Precisely, lad. They know this, and thus need time for their preparations. Time they will have, unfortunately." Alina Vyterska sighed. "While the Allaneans fly in engineers, the ANE drags it's feet. While the Allaneans dig trenches and camouflage their anti-ship batteries, the ANE blathers. One must wonder if they've lost their courage now that Palmyrion's...'allies' have appeared."

"It's a good thing we're not hanging with them, then."

"Yes. It is a good thing for us." She paused. "Remain here - bill me for all the coffee you drink. Just count up how many men and tanks keep passing this way. I've a phone call to make."

"Hey - before you go. What do you think of...?"

Alina paused, and glanced back, cocking her head a little. "Our hosts?"

"Yeah."

Alina paused. "Deeply unserious. A bit like my sister's first boyfriend; compensating aggressively and unhealthily for some deep-seated inadequacy. I think that's why they use sexual imagery so much in their agitprop. Not a challenge for a serious global or even a regional power. If they tried to invade us, we'd dye the Quiet Sea with their blood."

With that, she left the coffee-shop.

"...Ughhh." The short nuclear-powered combat-replenishment-ship rolled his eyes, before stuffing it in his pocket.

"Knew you'd say that."

"Yeah, yeah. It's stupid. There's no guarentee a Kasak submarine won't come out here to blow a hole in my hull. I'm not equipped for proper ELINT. I'm assuming Big Sis Vibs will need a new load of SM-6s and -2s before long. So, so many reasons to not want to be here. But no - instead I have to play peeping tom on a bunch of fucking - ah well, orders are orders. What's Ariszewski's take on this?"

As if in direct reply, 800 meters across the water, a series of loud, indistinct, and angry shouts came from the graceful, light-grey hull of a Horizon-class guided missile frigate.

"I think there's your answer, Valour."

"Whatever she's saying, I second it." He turned about, and began heading for the bridge.. "But it is what it is."

"Aye, sir. Say, what's above us right now?"

"Right now? Couple of F/A-18s and their variants, flying back and forth from that carrier they have somewhere. The odd transport or two. Nothing jamming us yet. There's probably other stuff - they've got stealth bombers, like the Chrissies, right? We won't know where those are unless they want us to, frankly."

At least what every Palmyrian Navy and Air Force AWACS aircraft was looking at and was transmitting to the rest of the Strategic Information Grid, for all naval units to see. For even the Lakambini back in Alexandria to see on her fancy touchscreen table in the Royal Citadel's Command and Information Center. For their allies in Washington, D.C., and Liberty City to look at.

The local Fleet Air Arm and Air Force units were put on medium alert: to be ready to take off, weapons hot and loaded, within 30 minutes' notice and provocation. These ships bore the flag of the Blauveldt-Ryszanan Commonwealth, at least how it looked from their AIS transponders.

A nation with nominal ties to Palmyrion, not much beyond ordinary line items in diplomatic and trade dossiers, and an embassy in Cubao located in the mixed office-manufactory district and right next to Cubao Central Rail, a metro rail station filled and bustled with blue and white collar commuters by day, and haunted by night ladies and mysterious jacketed dealers by night.

EMCON options were explored by the strike group, division, and squadron levels. They had eyes on the two ships, and the two ships had eyes on them. They were looking at the duo of BRC ships that shadowed them, while at the same time being peeping tommed by the duo of vessels. They knew where the two were, and the two knew where they were.

But there has to be a way to somewhat play with the shadowers, right? Jamming was off the table; it would most likely be seen as an act of war. Alternatively, they could turn off air search radars while keeping surface search and illumination radars on, with air search delegated to supporting AWACS assets from Fleet Air Arm and the Air Force.

It was a decision not lightly made - but was made anyways.

Fleets of the Northern Command and the Mindoro-Palawan Command turned off their S-band radars, leaving only their X-bands on, and delegating volumetric search duty to Fleet Air Arm AWACS and Air Force AWACS...not that it would probably make any difference at this point.

Off the coast of North Palmyrion

Under the cover of darkness an old fishing trawler bobbed towards Palmyrion’s North coast. The ship’s captain, Ferdinand Terry, watched as crates of ammunition, guns, and other supplies were unloaded from the ships hull and on to the deck. Ferdinand was a rough looking man in his early thirties with a short beard, sharp mind, and dubious background. He was, he had been told, the bastard son of some lower nobleman. In other words, he was exactly the type of rakehell that the Kingdom of Saresse liked to have carry out its less than official business.

Ferdinand Terry, of course, hadn’t paid for his ship, or the weapons, or hired his crew, but was the type of man who could lie his way into being a lowly smuggler out for profit if he were to be caught. Being caught was unlikely, however. The ship hadn’t contacted Saresse since leaving port with its orders, the crew had been careful to plan out their route to match that of a normal fishing vessel, and to top off the deception a Palmyrian flag flew over the deck.

A crate of munitions was placed down by a deckhand.

“Careful with that stuff,” said Ferdinand after taking a draw from his cigarette, “it’ll give you cancer if ya ain’t careful.”

After centuries of rivalry Saresse had built up a spy network in Palmyrion. While it wasn’t the same type of sophisticated network, capable of sabotage and theft, that other nations fielded, it was enough to feed information back to Saresse, and make the right contacts when needed.

Recently, Saressian spies had been in contact with members of the insurgent groups who had turned the Palmyrion elections into an international spectacle, and it was one such group of insurgents who would receive tonight’s shipment of weapons.

In total, the ship carried 40 Type-69 RPG launchers, 100 rounds of accompanying HEAT ammunition, ammunition for small arms, and dried, prepacked food rations. More so than the conventional weapons, the ship’s most important cargo was 10 canisters of highly toxic sarin gas which, in the hands of the insurgents, was sure to wreak havoc in the homelands of Saresse’s age-old enemy.

With the shore in sight a crew member began to use a lantern to flash out an agreed upon signal in morse code.

With tensions rising orders for a partial levy had been sent to the Saressian duchies. For most, this would mean readying the standing armies maintained by each duke or duchess for deployment. In the Duchy of Asbury, professional sailors readied the nation’s two missile submarines to set sail and naval infantry received briefings about the Palmyrian coasts. In the industrial heartlands of the Duchy of Sudland, tenders and troop ships were inspected while infantry battalions were mustered near the coasts. Marzo-Nord readied four destroyers and from the capitol region, the Duchy of Saresse, rush requests were made on international weapons orders and the Royal Guards Infantry Regiment was instructed to be ready for deployment.

In the rural plains of Terragri, however, even a partial levy meant that impressment officers would soon be knocking on young men’s doors. In the far-flung Duchy of Gullsreach, the younger of the two Saressian princes read the levy orders, and wondered to himself whether he was willing to send men to die in what was, in essence, his elder brother’s conflict.

As anachronistic as the levy system might have seemed, it had served Saresse well enough since its earliest days. The Kingdom had always been slow to let go of tradition.

At an airport in Alexandria

The vast aircraft glided down for landing, its four engines emitting a terrible sound - not the screeching howl of older warbirds, but something deeper, more modern, more frightening. It was the sound of high-bypass turbofans pushed to their limits - a layered mix of deep-throated thunder and precision turbine whine, like a giant industrial saw tearing through the sky. The noise wasn’t just loud - it had weight, pressure - it rolled over the ground in waves, shaking window panes, vibrating through concrete, and making conversations stop mid-sentence.

As the aircraft descended, the air around it shimmered - heat distortion rippling like a candle flame across an oil-slicked mirror. You didn’t need radar to know it was coming - your bones would tell you first.

As the aircraft, painted in dark gray, taxied into its spot, one could make out, on the port-side nose panel, an image in cartoon style - an angelic girl in a white tunic, wielding a spear, her wings flared wide like a diving falcon. Beneath her, stenciled in sharp, confident lettering, were the words NIKE’S FAVORITE.

More of the fearsome aircraft began to descend, their roar unceasing, relentless - a steady thunder that seemed to roll in from the edge of the sky and settle over the airfield like a siege. As they banked and turned toward their assigned taxiing slots, their broad wings flexing with the motion, the incoming giants came into full view of the civilians behind the glass at the terminal.

Ground crews paused in their work, phones in hand, snapping photos as the aircraft trundled past - each one bearing its own nose art. Some were crude, vulgar in the way only frontline humor could be. Others were solemn - memorials, threats, prayers. It all depended on the crew, on the pilot, on whatever they’d been carrying into battle when they’d chosen it.

There was AVATAR OF HATE - a snarling, blood-red demonic face painted on the nose, eyes wild, teeth bared in a caricature of pure rage. There was KNOWN SUSPECT - a cartoonish young woman in a prison shirt, unbuttoned just enough to make her intentions clear, her expression somewhere between amused and defiant.

And then there were others - worse, or better, depending on what you were hoping for. TRAIL OF FIRE showed simply a long streak of flame running the length of the fuselage, bold and unbroken, while PISTOL PACKING MAMA featured a broad-hipped woman grinning under a shock of curls, a brace of revolvers strapped across her chest like she meant business.

Each name was a message - crude, cryptic, or cruel - and few of them were written for polite company.

At military runways at Alexandria

At more secluded military sites - dusty strips carved into remote valleys, old Cold War airfields reactivated overnight - the heavy cargo birds came in low and fast, their bellies packed with disassembled jets and classified freight. Within hours of landing, the Allaneans were already at work - assembling strike aircraft under camouflage netting, inflating decoy hangars, positioning high-grade mockups indistinguishable from the real thing to the untrained eye.

From orbit - or from a pair of binoculars a few hills away - it would soon be impossible to tell how many actual aircraft had been deployed, or where on the airfield they’d been placed. Every base was a shell game now - the kind you lost if you blinked.

The cyberattacks done by Palmyrion has been reported across the nation. Thus, the DoSW activated mitigation attempt program: DDDOS (Denial of Distributed Denial of Service).

Major providers were given instruction to filter access based on blacklists and threat intels, along with blocking VPNs. Economic institutions and national priority networks were reconnected through offline services, and isolation on:

Emergency service
Power grids
Defense systems
National banks
Government portals

On the other side, three Sb. 029 Strategic Bombing fleets were readied to do interregional strike missions, with three Eirfud aerial tankers per fleet.

There arrives certain points in history which demand silence, and where the world must remain silent for it's own collective benefit. Indeed, these affairs become relatively common where there is a lack of information held, and where rash decisions and accusations bring to the arsenal of the leaders of humanity new justifications for which to employ against others the arsenals that they have amassed. In the march of time, the capacities and capabilities of these arsenals has rapidly and massively expanded beyond the capacity to counter them, to the point where now so many states have at their disposal the instruments to implement an apocalyptic conclusion to their interstate issues. The scale and array of these armaments, some of which are thermonuclear, chemical, or biological in nature, have now been proliferated across the earth to countless actors both rational and irrational.

The Free Kingdom of Allanea must certainly be considered an irrational state actor in it's intensive and repeated history of violation of national sovereignty for concerns predominantly arrogant and moralistic in nature, and for the condition which it has created in it's society, which the Empire must consider a form of high barbarism the likes of which has never before been seen in history. It hollows out and destroys civilizations operating along the most basic contrived premise, leaving broken and shattered lands behind. The forces of the Free Kingdom have, in it's conquests, committed an unending list of depravities and barbarities in the name of abolitionism. However, the arrogance of this actor is not yet the topic of discussion, and neither is the point to condemn a civilization which has already condemned itself before history.

The situation in the Levanora Vastness, as it relates to the Kingdom of Palmyrion and the Association of New Empires, can now be seen clearly as a new conflict that has inherited a continuing potential for effects reaching far outside the scope of that area. It would be prudent to consider that Palmyrion and Greznov are, and remain to be, nuclear armed powers - powers which have both demonstrated a lack of restraint in the past when it has come to interstate conflict. The recent cyber-attack against Greznov committed by Palmyrion-aligned hackers, and the attempted false-flag pornographic work that had been conducted by the state of Palmyrion or it's supporters, has further highlighted a lack of discrimination in targets. The arrival of Allanean forces to that region, already an unstable presence, risks provoking a wider conflict and furthering regional destabilization. The Palmyri state, in particular, remains in a state of recovery from it's several past insurgencies, and the Lirvittian Empire deems it a serious possibility that any mass-war waged in this region presents the serious risk of both nuclear proliferation and mass casualties on all sides, with massive economic consequences even for uninvolved actors.

It is not normally the concern of the Lirvittian Empire to interfere in the affairs of the Kingdom of Palmyrion, the empire of Greznov, nor even in the Free Kingdom of Allanea, and it is surely recognized that relations between the Empire and her people and these states have never been amicable. However, the risk of catastrophic war in the region, even if localized, affects not just those states, but the broader international system altogether, for which we are affected also by proxy. The present moment does not leave significant degree of space for margin for error, and with active military presence of multiple powers operating on a massive scale, conditions in that part of the world have rapidly and severely degraded. The Empire will not tolerate such threats to its security and to the security of her allies and possessions. It is the urge and recommendation of the highest order that the parties involved begin a withdrawal of strategic nuclear assets from first-strike positions and clearly outline a no-nuclear first strike policy in this potential conflict, and that this conducted in a manner transparent before the international community.

The Empire has neither the wish nor desire to become involved in the conflict between these states, nor has it any interest in meddling in these affairs. The Empire, like any other state, would simply prefer no strategic-level escalation of an interstate-issue. We, as all other neutral parties, encourage responsible conduct and a swift conclusion to what is essentially a regional problem.

I find myself in an unusual predicament. A slaver organization has published a message – allegedly from their “external outreach division,” which is apparently what they call the department that sends out lies with extra punctuation. And yet – shockingly, given that I am a functioning human being with a soul – I found myself agreeing with parts of it.

Obviously, I do not agree with their description of the recent Palmyrian propaganda effort as a “false-flag attack.” Disseminating deepfakes of a foreign leader is not an act of war. It is tacky, desperate, and beneath the dignity of any serious state, but hardly a casus belli. Not that slavers would understand diplomacy. They are, after all, permanently at war with all mankind. Hostis humani generis, as the civilized world rightly calls them.

Now, taking into account that I do not consider a slaver to be a civilized human being – and indeed believe that, by their own actions, slavers have placed themselves outside the bounds of humanity entirely – it must be said that they generally operate on a level of dignity somewhere below the mosquito. The mosquito, at least, does not lie about its intentions, nor does it build institutions devoted to the systematic degradation of sapient life. And yet, despite all that, the slavers have – astonishingly – made an important point.

It would be tragic, I believe, if full-tilt, serious war – much less, nuclear war, which does not appear to be on the table, or even in the same room as the table, would erupt between Greznov and Palmyrion. Should the forces of the ANE attack Palmyrion, obviously the members of the coalition would fight fiercely to defend our ally, and as a result, many people would die.

Fundamentally, it is difficult to imagine what Greznov could stand to gain from such a war – certainly it’s difficult to imagine a “destruction” of Palmyrion, or any “territorial against”, such as the ANE charter hints at. And while I expect that the coalition would win the war, the casualties would be tragic and entirely avoidable.

I therefore implore the government of Greznov to open diplomatic negotiations towards a treaty of mutual non-aggression with the Royal Commonwealth of Palmyrion.

Due to recent security incidents, a new publish has been posted for all LRI-series NGFWs to update IPS/IDS systems to mitigate risk due to the recently discovered CVE-2025-5642 and CVE-2025-4484. Our professional analysis of "WALANGFOREVER" is that it is not a threat. Similar systems such as the infamous "ILOVEYOU" have worked before - yes, however, that was due to the relative immaturity of cybersecurity during that time.

Testing of "WALANGFOREVER" on a closed network resulted in the following results:

The first eight attempts of the infected device to spread the worm resulted in the device being shut down and disconnected by the endpoint protection system. Any attempts of the worm to actually spread were intercepted by the Navicon LRI firewall, which automatically disconnected the device and communicated a device reset to the endpoint protection system.

The following attempts, where the worm actually tried to delete the endpoint protection system, resulted in the device being disconnected from the internet the second the EPS was overwritten. The attempts of the worm to spread were once again detected and interdicted by the Navicon LRI firewall.

The tests after that were even less promising. Virelion endpoint protection was able to halt the overwriting process by shutting down the computer 90% of the time. When Virelion endpoint protection was wiped, it caused a full device reset in accordance with industry best practice, causing the laptop to initiate a zero-trust reset.

Simply put, while WALANGFOREVER may be a threat to the non-technically inclined, it is not a threat against a properly configured enterprise-grade network with the associated network segmentation and endpoint protection. The widespread deployment of GULLIONTINE2 traces to routers and firewalls across the globe, in essence, means that while WALANGFOREVER may have had a noticeable short-term effect, the long-term effect of WALANGFOREVER remains close to nil. As long as information security and information hygiene policies and best practices are followed, WALANGFOREVER is not a threat on a macro scale. While it may be a threat to non-hardened consumer environments, it is not a threat to properly secured and hardened enterprise grade networks.

A family-crew of fisherfolk - a father and his two sons - trawled the local waters as they fished the night, their lights casting a glow as they worked in the darkness of the sea this far out. From a distance of 10km, the city lights of Tuguegarao shone and flicked, raging with depositionist riot, and conflagrating with DRA insurgency in the rural and remote hinterlands around the city.

The seas around the city were filled with a myriad of vessels: Navy and Coast Guard vessels, well-armed container vessels, bulkers, and crude carriers, and fellow fisherfolk trawling the night. The family-crew maintained contact with the shore, through radio, GPS, and AIS transponders fitted on their boat, as the father and his sons worked.

But then, there was this one vessel that looked quite out of the ordinary. It flew a Palmyrian flag - but knowing his local, tight-knit group of fishermen, this was out of the ordinary. It didn't look like they were fishing; resting, maybe? The boat flashed K S W with visual Morse using its signaling floodlight. It was off; if the crew tried to contact someone and had a working radio, then they would be using said radio, not a signaling floodlight. And, they weren't even fishing either.

The younger son keeping watch of the sea as the elder son worked the trawl lines and the dragnet could only wonder, looking through the binos at the ship that didn't belong.

The father quickly checked AISHub using satellite internet; nothing. And it didn't look like the vessel was in distress either. Instinctively, he checked in on this fishing trawler, contacting them through the radio:

"Unidentified vessel, this is Melvar. Is there something wrong?" - the father said, in his native Ibanak, then in Palmyrian, and finally in a heavily-accented English.

Especially as what he could identify as a Coast Guard 50-footer boat and a Navy chopper - from both visual spotting and AISHub cross-checking - coasted toward the sussy trawler he'd just seen. If it were up to him he would have reported the suspicious boat - but it seems he didn't need to.

Two war machines dared march to her maritime doorstep, as her house recovered from the havoc of internal strife. First, it was Einheitswelt, humbled with great force and prisoners pressed into prison labor as their country fell apart, the crashing weight of defeat bringing its socialist war machine of conquest burning down. They were doomed now to a life of incarceral labor in the penal system, never to return to a homeland that sent them to their defeat and abandoned them.

Now, it was Greznov. Many say the United Imperial States of Greznov had been in a war economy footing since the 1800s, and was by now a war machine that lived, breathed, and fed on never-ending war and constant conquest.

"They want more than access to Palmyrian resources. They want monopoly of the local economy. To turn us economically dependent on Greznov." - the Chief of General Staff continued.

Economic slavery. Loss of sovereignty over one's national gears of industry. To a war machine that didn't know when to switch gears to peace.

The Lakambini had heard of this before. The long line of Palmyrian monarchs before her can trace back their succession to the soldier-king that brought the Palmyrian nation her freedom: Maximillian, the Refounder, he who broke the Stevidian imperial war machine's grip on the Palmyrian nation, refusing to be taxed and pressed further to fund and man their former imperial overlord's wars of conquest. Oliver welcomed the Industrial Revolution, laying down the foundations of Palmyrian maritime, mercantile and industrial sovereignty. Theodora united the islands under the crown.

To give Greznov access would be giving an inch to a nation that would eventually demand miles upon miles. A mile consisted of 63,360 inches - and Greznov would salami slice their way through all 63,360. And another, and another. And if they cannot get it through diplomacy? Then they would use force to beat the Palmyrian nation and drag her screaming and bloody to the negotiation table.

"I shall talk to them." - the Lakambini replied.

Much to the aghast surprise of the generals gathered around her.

"Ma'am, with all due respect—" the Vice-Chancellor of National Defense spoke, choking on his words.

"—their demands would most likely be unconscionable! And I suggest we wait until a new government is formed - a new government that would ratify any resultant treaty or agreement - before we enter talks with them!" he continued.

But in today's world, diplomacy had to be the measure of first resort. Allies have come to her aid. Enemies have come to her demise. And she would show the world that the Royal Commonwealth was a friend worth fighting for.

For now, however, they wait. Until the transition between governments was completed, they had to watch, wait, and stand guard.

"Then we wait until a new government, formed of the victors of the 2025 elections, is formed." - the Lakambini commanded with stern finality.

The Palmyrian nation could wait, until a new government was formed.

But could Greznov? Could the Association of New Empires?

As soon as Greznov's DoSW sent its TUNNELRAT and DAMNLAKAMBINI viruses, the action was on in the cyberwarfare department.

The first sign that it was not from an official government institution, foreign or domestic, friend foe or neutral, was by simple flagging of domains, IP addresses, and file and origin metadata. Scientists and engineers, trained in information hygiene, knew better than to not open a file flagged as such: "THIS IS NOT FROM A TRUSTED INSTITUTION - DO YOU STILL WANT TO OPEN IT?"

Secondly, it was the fact that power grid employees sent with files infected by DAMNLAKAMBINI - later revealed to be racy pictures of the sovereign plastered in pdfs, docx, and xls files - had their personal devices unable to connect to the airgapped power grid SCADA systems. Facility-level external communications devices and networks, another potential breachpoint, were also airgapped from SCADA systems.

But anything that can go wrong, would go wrong - and that was where endpoint security systems were able to largely contain the damage. Attempts by infected devices to spread either malware would be met with a forced shutdown by the endpoint security system and automatic disconnection by the firewall; where endpoint security software was wiped, zero-trust full device resets were triggered.

Save for a few localized incidents of villages and suburbs losing power (covered up by local media as blackouts caused by fuel shortages and hardware failure), DAMNLAKAMBINI did not do much damage beyond waking up maintenance crews at the worst time of the day to be doing repairs.

As for TUNNELRAT? Being a literal Remote Access Trojan, it would be uploaded into honeypots closed off with airgaps to any sensitive state or private hardware or software. These honeypots (named STD-FILLED-ESCORTS by a few IT workers on Red Bull, porn, and total lack of botanical contact) would be filled with polymorphic boot sector viruses and tracking files for the RAT to send back to its handlers in Greznov.

Meanwhile, the Royal Commonwealth prepared for a possible DDoS attack from Greznov, by having Content Direction Networks redirect all malicious DDoS-related traffic - using Border Gateway Protocol manipulation, and the exploitation of DNS, NTP, SSDP, and memory-cached reflection amplification - to Greznovian IP addresses related but not limited to: healthcare, banking, telecommunications, education, and government services. Any malicious traffic suffered by any firm from any source, even if not related to the geopolitical firestorm currently brewing between both nations, would all be redirected against Greznov.

All in all, she had an air of efficient, deadly elegance about her.

The reality on her bridge, though, was somewhat different.

"Kurwa!" Arciszewski groaned, watching as contact after contact appeared on-screen. Dozens of tracks revealed themselves - a variety of FFGs and DDGs on the surface, a swarm of F/A-18s above. "Didn't take long for them to find us."

Her captain nodded. "Right, we've got orders, but there's no saying how we'll carry them out. I bet all of you -" He glanced around the bridge, at this. "- would rather be anywhere else than here - so it's only really a matter of when we can fuck off rather than if."

"Aye. Though, where's that limit?"

Statement of the Commonwealth of the Free Realms of Blauveldt and Ryszana regarding the Conflict in the Levanora Vastness

The Sister-Realms regard the recent developments in the Lenovara Vastness with growing alarm. Aggressive Greznovian rhetoric, and mobilization of Palmyrian, Allanean, American, etc. military assets presents countless opportunities for misunderstanding and miscalculation in a crucial maritime hub, one that is vital to securing a lifeline for our allies in Esvanovia.

While the freedom of nations is inviolable, one must wonder what safety is gained by certain maneuvers on the part of the Palmyrian government. In particular, sordid deepfakes and amateurish cyberwarfare tactics neither secure Palmyrian interests nor do they damage Greznovian capabilities. Their only effect, in truth, is to make the Government and People of Palmyrion look foolish, even childish, on the world stage.

We urge all participants in the dispute to immediately begin engagement in productive dialogue, and in particular caution them to respect the freedom of navigation, as well as the rights of neutral parties and shipping.

Hey hey, people - Kalina here. As the war in Kaskaida rages on, we're bombarded - daily - with disheartening and depressing news. Families torn apart, cities in ruin, forests filled with landmines; there's a lot, and it makes you want to lay down and cry. Hell, I've been there. It all makes you rather cynical about us, about mankind in general.

In times like these, it's important to look on the bright side of life. One must remember that as much of a tragedy this war might be, at least noone involved is stupid - unlike some other situations that we could name.

I'm talking about Palmyrion.

Before I continue, this particular piece is going to be much more informal and unserious than what you'll usually see from me, because the subject is - frankly - deeply unserious, and doesn't deserve the usual standards I apply to myself.

So, for those of you who don't already know - Palmyrion is a nation in the Lenovara Vastness, a geographic region between the regions of Esvanovia and Iorthe. It's smack-dab in the center, and it's your usual fare - liberal, democratic, big navy, so on and so forth. It also has an internal conflagration every few years - there's always some ethnic group or another that has some sort of grievance, and with the sunny, smiling "monarch-democratic" order with it's pretensions of pluralism.

And, of course, being a liberal, pluralistic, monarcho-democratic nation with a big navy, Palmyrion looks abroad. This angered one 'Empire of Greznov' - by all accounts it's a rather shit place. Big, constant wars, yadda yadda - all rather trite and boring, the sort of fanatically-authoritarian state with an army that would fold after a few well-placed ballistic missiles. So now they're at each other's throats; cyberattacks, posturing with aircraft, yadda yadda. Defense Meridon and VNC have a pretty good rundown on what's going on so far on the cyber-front.

Nonetheless, to summarize - because honestly this is the most hilarious bit for me - the Palmyrians have decided that the best way to get at Greznov is to use, uh, rather...inappropriate deepfakes. This aligns with extensive prior documentation on Palmyrian signalling and imagery - it's almost always 'adult' in nature.

My personal theory is that this represents a chauvinistic, populist, and fascist-adjacent streak that underlies Palmyrion's progressive branding - Palmyrion's foes do not merely represent a threat but a kind of debased, completely immoral ontological evil. It's cheap and trashy, but it does work for certain audiences. That said, it's still - again - cheap and trashy, and it makes you wonder what they're hiding.

They've also targeted home networks with rather primitive ransomeware - by primitive, I mean that it was copied from an earlier virus decades ago, one which nearly all serious organizations have strong countermeasures against. No idea what the big idea is here, but it suggests the Palmyrian government has weak cyberwarfare capabilities; no serious cyberwarfare unit wastes it's time doing this shit, because there are far, far juicier and higher-payoff targets. This is more of an amateurish script-kiddie thing.

Greznov has responded with a similar ransomware - 'ETERNAL_RED' - because, well, of course.

I'm not going to pretend to feel sorry for either of these nations. They're both stupid, and their allies are stupid for getting involved in this. I wish every nation involved in this the worst.

What is genuinely concerning, of course, is that Palmyrion lies astride the route used by ships to transit from Iorthe to Esvanovia. OSINT suggests that there are, in fact, Blauveldter-Ryszanan warships that were caught in the middle of transit when this all began happening. If a war breaks out - and especially if the Blauveldter-Ryszanan government decides to get involved - the logistical situation for Commonwealth military forces in Esvanovia could become strained.

The newly-designed Sac. 025 "Igelsei" SIGINT aircraft departed from the tarmac of the Silverber Airbase, along with four Ara. 74 airtankers and escort of four Fa. 165 "Brevigel". The convoy was designed specifically for interregional espionage on the Palmyrian lands.

Upon entering the nearest international airspace to Palmyrian lands, the Fa. 165 escorts would detach along with the airtankers, and the spyplane would circle around Palmyrion for about 12 hours mission time. After the timeframe completed, eight airtankers, another Igelsei, and the escort would come to extract the previous one and replace the previous Igelsei for a 24-hours surveillance time.

This cycle would be set to repeat until the cold war ends.

As for the Association of New Empires, we do not have an aggressive intent; but rather a defensive one in order to prevent Greznov from falling in the Palmyrian sphere of influence.

As for your threats of retaliation—let it be known that we are neither deterred nor intimidated. The rhetoric of war only strengthens our unity and our resolve. Greznov will not bow to the coercive tone of empires that ignore the nuanced complexities of the Levanoran region. It is not we who isolate, but you who misunderstand the realities of the vastness you claim to protect. The United Imperial States' allies spanned across regions: Neuteutonnia and Eltzheim in Kali Yuga, Hindenbar in South Pacific, the Kingdom of Saresse, Salbert, and soon the Grand Republic of Magdaran in Greater Dienstad.

Should Amador wish to act as a responsible power, let it investigate the real threats—the ones funding terror, not the ones defending themselves from it.
