Valanora Times
On the Road Again

Some months on from yet another penalty shootout loss in the regional championship, the Marauders look once more to dust off their shoulders and begin anew in their quest for another championship. Ellzidan has put her footprint on this squad and it has shaped all so slightly to fit more within her image, even if there are many within the Eternal Empire that would prefer her to take the team to a more traditional route. However two appearances in the Arrosia Regional Championship Final has shown that the manager is able to handle the stress and rigors that come with the job. The players seem to respond to her and she seems to have a fairly good amount of control and respect among the team, able to make changes how, when, and where she sees fit to. Although last World Cup ended in disappointing fashion, the fact that the team had a giant bullseye on it from the word go with their illustrious ranking meant that it was never going to be an easy first cycle for the Drawkish elf, yet with that experience at the helm now under her belt, this cycle should hopefully see the Marauders ready to give chase once more to the elusive sixth World Cup title.

As one might expect, there has not been great changes made to the national pool that the manager is set to select from during the qualification campaign, with the biggest changes coming at keeper with the reintroduction of Nikolai Simonsen and Li Lindholm, after both had fantastic domestic seasons to earn their spot back in contention for the backup keeper positions. Tobias Propst continues to be a revelation there and he gives the Marauders a sense of confidence at the keeper position that is not often there and may be one of the reasons why the team has in the past been as ultra attacking as it has been, feeling like they could not count on the defense or keeper to make pivotal stops. Earning the starting position at Pasargan giants CA Paulinthal at twenty, his growth and development has been huge and why he has taken over the number one spot on the national team, winning titles with the massive Rushmori club and getting used to a culture that is all about winning. At this level, plenty of players are blessed with enormous natural talent and it is their personality or knowing how to win that is the difference and Propst has learned that with his time with the Hurricane.

Elsewhere the squad mostly stays the same, the same starting eleven that went out for most of the campaign last cycle should be expected to do the same for this season, as the few changes to the pool comes more in the reserves area. The strength of the team is built on its starting eleven and when you have a player like Laborious Hawk at your disposal it is hard to think that you are ever not a favorite for any game, he is a walking myth at this point. Surround him with generational talents like Lucas Winkel, Imre Haaland, and Julia Strömberg and you have a team that looks on the surface to be a team that should be there or thereabouts come the end of the knockout phases of the tournament. What the team will have to show for the upteenth time though is discipline and the respect to their opposition, that patience to take everything a game at a time and not allow complacency to sneak in because on paper they are supposed to beat the team in front of them. It is a recipe for disaster and we saw the team at times last cycle fail to give their opponents the respect they were due and were punished for it, I doubt the manager is going to allow that to happen again.

The campaign does not start off easy as it is a trip to Anaia to face Ochre Islands, every trip to that region sees whatever Vanorian team that travels there meet with a certain level of hostility. Games away from the Empire in hostile environments were a large part of why the last qualification campaign looked like it was sputtering at times and why the team perhaps failed to deliver in the knockouts when they were heavy favorites to win the entire competition. After going to visit the fifth seed, the team comes back to Capri to host the fourth seed Nova Calania, a team who looks to play above their seeding and gives both the Marauders as well as second seed HUElavia fits in the fight for qualification out of the group. That does not mean that you should overlook third seeds Qusmo, though the Rushmori outfit seems like they are struggling a bit to get things ready for this cycle and could be ripe for a team that is hungry like Nova Calania to overtake them. Rounding out the rest of the group is Brusseldorf, The Golden Harp, Archalit, Oscioru, and unranked Sadame. These are the games that the team need to get six out of six from to show they have learned and grown from the struggles of last cycle.

On paper, it is a group that might be more tricky than one might expect for the second ranked side to try and navigate out of, their rank and the sheer amount of talent on this Marauders roster suggests that it should be a fairly straightforward walk in the park. Yet in this seventy-first cycle that the team is taking part in, they know better than most that these games are not simply determined on paper but sides who are supposed to be better than the rest, you have to go out and earn it. The team did not earn the five stars adorned on their badge simply because other teams stepped out of the way in sheer awe of the team, they went out and played with everything they had to earn those victories, putting enough of them together to win their titles. HUElavia, Nova Calania, and Qusmo might be the most obvious of the difficultly but every match matters, three points earned from the high pots count as much as the ones from the low pots. The first goal is to win the first game, then the second and so on until they ensure they finish in the top three of the group and qualification, from there more grand goals and dreams can be had, especially with the World Cup taking place in the Marauders own backyard in Arrosia.

i don't know — seventeen

“Ambrose, it’s not gonna work out.”

Those were the last words Ambrose wanted to hear from Skye. The couple sat across each other, and the tense silence between them spoke volumes.

“I don’t… I don’t understand. What did I do?”

Ambrose spoke not with his usual confident, fiery gusto, but with a much more vulnerable whimper.

“You won’t change, will you, Ambrose?” Skye stood up, planting her hands on the table, “I’ve told you so many times how I don’t appreciate your outbursts. Yes, I know you’re expressing your feelings, but it’s hurting everyone. It’s hurting me and you.” Her eyes welled up with tears as her throat got progressively hoarser. Ambrose sat in silence. What should he do? What should he say? His mind got muddier as his vision blurred.

Ambrose hated this very moment. He could tolerate their misunderstandings that had become much more common. He could bear their shouting matches that his living room bore witness to one too many times. He could handle Skye’s fits of rage as she screamed at him, yelling about how he made a mess of himself during training. He could handle all of that because he thought the pain from the arguments wouldn’t last. He only knew to shout back at her. It was his way of relieving the pain – reciprocating what she’d given him. Sometimes, it didn’t work, but even when it worked, it just hurt both of them. She would remain still, maybe cry, and leave the room, but it all cooled down in the end. One way or the other, they would resolve their differences and go on with their jolly lives. Everything was fine…

But was it now?

Ambrose sat in silence. He remembered why this was all happening: for the umpteenth time, he’d crashed out at somebody, and that somebody happened to be Ulises Izhutin then.

Hindsight was 20/20, and Ambrose should have seen how foolish he was then. At that moment, however, he just couldn’t accept being called a bad passer by Ulises, and he had to set the record straight. By punching him. Everything else happened in a flurry. Ulises remained on the ground whilst Ambrose’s eyes were still mired with rage. His teammates escorted Ulises away from him as some of them gave Ambrose a piece of their minds. It was about the same thing: Why did you punch him? Can’t you control your feelings? This was your fourth time this month.

Ambrose was huffing and puffing, his heart palpitating as his anger-induced adrenaline powered his heart to beat faster. He could see his manager Lena coming over. He knows he’s done. He’d been through this a couple times, he knew what was coming up next. Lena would rip the absolute shit out of him, Maddox would come and give him the tenth talk of the week, and Skye would also come to berate him…

…except that time, Skye never went to him. Ambrose could see her looking at him with a certain expression before shaking her head and walking off. Perhaps she saved what she had wanted to say for, well, this interaction they were having.

“You won’t change, will you?”

He’d heard that line from her many times, but this time there was a distinct helplessness to her tone. She used to say it cheekily, but over time it became more exasperated, and then annoyed, and then this.

“Are you gonna sit there in silence?” Skye asked with an element of annoyance. She was asking a question Ambrose couldn’t give an answer: why was he the way he was? Why was he so hot-tempered and childish? He didn’t know the answer to any of that. He just was.

“I don’t know. I’m sorry. I’m sorry I don’t know,” he replied, “I don’t know how to control my feelings. I don’t know why I get angry so easily. I don’t know anything.”

“Well, if you don’t know, why don’t you find out? Why can’t you find out how to control your feelings and be a better adult?” Skye ranted, “I always told you to get your feelings sorted out but you always refused to. I even volunteered to pay for therapy, but you said you didn’t need it. Why is it only now when I’m about to break up with you that you want to fix yourself?”

Break up?

Oh, no. Oh, no, no, no. It couldn’t happen. She couldn’t break up with him. He couldn’t break up with her. They couldn’t break up. He didn’t want to lose her. He couldn’t afford to lose her. How many people were willing to be that listening ear for him? How many people were willing to be by his side when he was lonely? Skye was the only one who would do all of that with absolutely sincerity and grace, but now she was about to leave… No, he couldn’t let go of her. Not when he was down like this. Ambrose stood up and towered over Skye.

“No, please. Please don’t leave,” he begged, “I’ll do this. I’ll fix myself for us.” Skye merely looked at him in exasperation as she stood up.

“‘For us’? I think you should do it for yourself. You need it,” she spat, “I’m tired, Ambrose. I’m tired of being your therapist or whatever when there are a million people more capable than me. You don’t even fucking listen to me, what’s the point? I’m talking to a wall right now.”

“I’m not a wall.”

“Are you absolutely serious right now?” Skye took his remark as an attempt at humour and shot daggers at him. Ambrose wanted to evade her gaze. He might be much bigger physically, but he felt small compared to her then.

“Look, I’ll actually fix myself. I won’t shout at anyone, I’ll just shout at myself,” he said.

“And you think that’s going to fix everything? You think it’s so easy to fix your behaviour when you don’t even bother listening to your own girlfriend?”

“Please, babe, I–”

“Don’t call me that.”

“Skye…”

She was the coldest she had ever been. Never had she ever told him that. She seemed checked out, as if she had already made up her mind. Her eyes had the wistful look as the frown she was wearing slowly neutralised.

“Okay, because you never ever communicate things with me, I’ll just set it straight: I’m tired. Of you,” Skye said in a nondescript manner, “I’m just… y’know, I’m just done. I can’t be bothered to try and fix you after all the times you’ve ignored me. I’m done.” She began to move, walking to grab her bag.

“No we’re not. Listen, Skye, I already said I would change. What’s wrong now?” Ambrose’s voice reeked of desperation. He didn’t want her to leave, and he was using every ounce of his willpower to stop her from dropping him.

“I’ve already made my mind up.”

…so, she already decided to break up with him?

No. No. No. No.

Ambrose ran for the door. He knelt on his knees in front of it as he pleaded for Skye’s mercy.

“Skye, I’m a changed man. I won’t be the same, I promise with all my heart.”

“Let me leave for fuck’s sake.”

“Please, one more chance.” He clasped his hands together in prayer as his forehead wrinkled. He had never felt so distraught.

“You’re blocking my way. I want to leave.”

“No.”

“Let me leave.”

“No.”

“Let. Me. Leave.”

“NO!”

Ambrose bellowed from the deepest of his voice. His voice hinted at tears welling up in his throat. All his sadness, exasperation, defeat had balled up into a sort of resentment, and he couldn’t take it anymore. He couldn’t stand the fact that Skye wanted to leave. He didn’t understand. He already promised to better himself. Why wasn’t that enough? It was his failure to understand her that led to that very moment, that very scream. Ambrose realised as soon as he shouted that he’d fucked up. He raised his voice again. He let his feelings get the better of him again. He failed Skye again. He failed himself… well, again. He finally realised why Skye didn’t believe in him anymore.

Ambrose got up and opened the door for Skye. She swiftly left his apartment. Ambrose wanted to apologise one final time. He wanted to tell her sorry for all the pain and anguish he’d caused her, but he couldn’t muster up the courage nor willpower. Perhaps some things were better left unsaid.

Ambrose saw Skye walking downstairs. It was drizzling, yet she didn’t bother to open her umbrella. Ambrose noticed she’d left her umbrella on his dining table, but… he’d deal with it another day. He wanted to run down and give her umbrella back, maybe take the time to talk things out with her, but he didn’t. He remained still, watching over her walk in the rain. He didn’t know how to feel anymore. He wanted to give her the umbrella, he really did, but something was telling him to leave her be. Maybe she deserved her peace from him.

That night, Ambrose slept, and he slept a lonelier man than he had ever been.

3 months until WC99

Kanoa Faye sat back in her chair. For two weeks she’d been stuck, staring at her ideation screen wondering how she would possibly pull off the feats so desperately asked of her. Qualify the Pirates for the World Cup? Create a young team capable of dominating the 100th edition? What does that even mean? How on Margaret’s planet was she supposed to do something as absurd and vague as that, and with a team of hastily cobbled together nobodies in just six months?! As that train of thought passed through her, as it had every day prior, she slammed her hand against her desk and buried her face in her palms. She groaned in exasperation before sitting back up and leaving for a walk.

As she began to walk outside, a group of runners passed by on the sidewalk ahead. Runners, she thought, I really wish I could just get some people to care like that. Archalit is a nation full of distance running fanatics, regularly hosting the massive Charkara Marathon and even once opening it to the public for competition. Perhaps there was a time, around ten years back, when Archalitians truly cared about soccer as much as they did about distance running, but that time was no longer. After the militaristic reallocation and the government’s ever-growing imperialist sentiment, Archalit national teams were scaled back and eventually resigned from international competition. Kanoa recalled the catastrophic failure of the Pirate League, but she had already resigned from soccer by that point and was merely an outsider to that competition.

But no longer was she an outsider. The fickle Archalitian government suddenly allocated resources to international sports two months ago, and all Kanoa knew was that she was hired as head coach after tedious deliberations and communications with Sport Archalit. Although she accepted the role, it was quite an overwhelming one. She needed to find and train a team in just three short months for the World Cup Qualifying tournament. She looked down at the sidewalk and shook her head. Those words she was told by the Sport Archalit executives, no pressure, echoed through her mind. ‘No pressure’ my ass, she thought, gritting her teeth. Archalit has never qualified for the World Cup, how was she ever going to make a team now?

Walking through the Kimje streets, Kanoa looked over at the towering Civic Dome and briefly began to admire it. She had fond memories of this place. When she was attending Bohria Tech, many of her tennis and soccer sessions took place there. She fondly remembered her tennis tryouts, and getting praised for scoring their first 100/100 evaluation. “I wish I could just gather everyone in Archalit and screen them all at once,” she thought aloud. “We’d be so far ahead than we are now.”

From a distance, Lyndon Nightmare squinted his eyes. He had been walking through Kimje on his way to the Bohria Legislative Building for a meeting when he suddenly heard a familiar-sounding voice. Somewhat constricted by his suit and tie, he ran up and called out, totally oblivious to the attention he was drawing from random passersby. “Kanoa, is that you?” he shouted.

Kanoa’s head snapped around to face the voice calling out to her. She had gotten so lost in thought that she hadn’t been paying any attention to her surroundings. But she recognized the silhouette quickly coming into view. Lyndon Nightmare, the legendary striker himself. “Lyn,” she said, surprised, “wh-?” She couldn’t quite voice her surprise. Why are you here? Where did you come from? Were you looking for me? All of these questions immediately tried to jump out of her lips at once and they all manifested as a simple look of shock.

“Did I hear you right? You wanted to screen Archalit or something?” Even in public, long after he retired, Lyn’s perception was still incredibly sharp. He could hear and see from a great distance with incredible clarity. “Thinkin’ about the soccer team?” he asked, smiling.

Kanoa finally found a question she could voice, and it came with a squint. “You know about that?” She hadn’t spoken with Lyn in literal years, so to think this grand reunion would come in such a strange and upfront way was bewildering to her. “Lyn, why are you here anyways?”

“I’m here for a meeting,” Lyn answered dismissively. It was a funny exchange, as even through his more dismissive and lame tone, you could still clearly hear a liveliness in his voice. It was as though he had never even retired from international sports and still retained all of his energy. “Anyways I thought you would’ve heard already but they hired me to coach too. I knew you were the head coach but I didn’t get the chance to get in contact yet.”

Kanoa’s eyes widened. No one had told her much of anything about who she was working with and the messy management behind the scenes meant that she hadn’t gotten to meet with many of the people she already should have by this point. Kanoa maintained a suspicious glare at Lyn. “So what? We can talk later, but shouldn’t you be off to your meeting now?”

“Aw, come on, don’t gimme that.” He looked off at the Civic Dome. “If you just wanna run a tryout, why not just invite people from the university circuit that look good?” He grinned smugly at Kanoa.

It was such a simple solution. So simple that it seemed incredibly flawed. Maybe a tryout works for a smaller population, but there were billions of people in the greater Archalit area! The university circuit is massive, what would they do to pick candidates? Still… “I mean, I’ve certainly thought about running closed trials, but that would take ages, no? There are way too many good athletes to thin down with tryouts in time to give them proper training.”

“Kanoa, there isn’t even enough time to train the athletes in time if you could have a team right now. Just pick and choose your favourite athletes and run a trial,” he said cheerily. “Anyways, good luck,” he said, patting her shoulder before heading off to his meeting.

Kanoa thought about calling out to him. Watching his back fade away, he pondered his words and extrapolated a real plan. “What about… a training camp trial?”

Captina ready to take next step
The Captina Company Press Association

The Captina Company National Football Team prepare to open play in World Cup Qualifying with a home date against Sangti and the Filindo Isles with the memory of their defeat to the Busoga Islands in the World Cup 98 playoff still fresh in the collective mind of the squad.

An indifferent stretch of play since that point--six losses and a draw in the 10 matches played--prompted Manager Jonas Yarborough to lay down the law with threats of wholesale change among the core roster, but the boss has named an unchanged squad from the group that went to the Copa Rushmori and proclaimed himself satisfied after a closed door friendly versus neighbors Rea San Vegas.

Sangti and Filindo are not the only familiar face on the schedule of qualifying fixtures, as World Cup 84 Champions Farfadillis will once again be the team to beat in Captina's Group 2; the Rosso e Oro took four points off the Arrosian giants last time and thus there will be no element of surprise. Another Arrosian side will be the host on match day 2 as Captina will travel to Milchama, who are the third seeds but sit just 7 spots ahead in the KPB+ order; the third Arrosian nation on the schedule will be World Cup 83 winners Equestria who will be the visiting side on match day 4, which will cap off the opening salvo that sees Captina have three of their first four games at The Captina Company Sports Ground.

It's the results against the lowest ranked sides that often prove to be the difference at the end of the day and Warkus, Middle Alba and The August Islands will make up 18 potential points on offer to the group's lineup which also includes Hispinas and Kamijiro. The top three finishers will make it to the Finals, which Captina proved last time they can easily accomplish. They'll require a similar dose of combined luck and pluck to find a way through once again.

The problem for Archibald Price was not that the rendition of the national anthem served by a pompous brass band was definitely below average. But rather that at this point, he had such a vast experience in seeing men and women with various instruments dig their teeth into what was, after all, a rather monotonous ditty, that the sound of it reminded him more of a car alarm than anything else. You know that not necessarily something was going wrong but you could sense in your nerves that you should rather be in a different place. That definitely applied to the current situation, but running away from the National Team presentation is just hard when you are the National Team manager.

Behind him, neatly lined up in two rows, the twenty players of the selection attempted to look interested in what another dignitary had to share. Price had kept track of the vice-minister of Culture, the mayor of Bridgehead and some Head Officer of the Prosecor before dozing off ahead of someone from the airliner that would take them across the globe on this adventure. For the love of god, he could not tell who was rambling at the speakers’ desk at the moment: they all looked so alike their pin-striped suits. A few days earlier, Price had been put in a room with someone who presented himself as ‘Head of Planning’ without a clear indication of what would be planned. Or a plan. About fifteen times during the conversation, Price had requested a short procedure to get the team going towards their opening match against Aphrilia, immediately a tough opening course on the copious menu. Most of his players had never left Anewkansas: boarding a plane out of the country usually was a one-way trip. As such, there would be plenty of nerves surrounding the trip whatsoever.

The ‘Head of Planning’ had, obviously, taken care of it. There must be about two hundred people here and it seemed as if half of them had prepared a speech.

“Hm, hm.”

By now, Archibald Price tried to go back to his mental happy place. That usually had little to do with football. Not that he did not like the game but after fifteen years with Bridgehead Mavericks, he had hoped to start a new chapter. He had always been interested in sculpture and maybe if he got his hands on some fine marble, he could…

“Hm, hm.”

Or fishing. How long ago was it that he had gone on a real fishing trip, with…

“And as I said, to conclude the ceremony, mister Archibald Price.”

His train of thought stubbed its toe, stumbled and fell at the sound of the polite applause of an increasingly bored audience. Bewildered, Price looked at the eyes around him, clearly noting that it was not the first time that the Head of Planning uttered that line. Instinctively, Archibald grabbed into his inner pocket but apparently he was the only one within the hall that had not prepared a speech. Mechanically, he rose and made his way to the front, trying to come up with something more coherent than Does anyone know whether there are good fishing grounds in Aphrilia?. By the time the little light by the side of the microphone indicated he could be heard, that attempt was still pretty much alive. Trying to keep the bright spotlights out of his eyes, Price scanned the place. A lot of suits and twenty men in deep red polo shirts. That would be the ragtag bunch that would represent the young, but (or ‘as such’?) very self aware nation of Anewkansas. Their first foray on international pastures and you cannot make a first impression twice. He had ignored all the pleas and advice and had decided to select the best twenty he could come up with. After all, if you put together good players, you get good football, right?

Ever since doing so, Price had wondered whether these were actually good players, but it was too late now to run away screaming, even if every nerve in his body anxiously requested him to do so.

“Dear fellow Anewkansans,”

Oh god, this sounded awful. Why was this microphone so soft?

“It is a great privilege for me and the men you see here to go out and play for our colours.”

Try not to breathe into that thing. Two seconds later, Price realized that not breathing also was a bad thing. God, why did he breathe so loud? Could the front row smell it?

“In the next eighteen games, we hope to demonstrate that our flag can wave proudly among the nations.”

He had heard that line once by a veteran politician and it seemed cool to include. See, even the mayor nodded.

“That will not be an easy task. At times, we might struggle.”

Oh no, the mayor stopped nodding. More confidence, now!

“But not for long! I have full belief that this selection can bring a lot of victories for us.”

Oh no, what on earth was he saying?

Price did not have a clue whether they would be capable of matching the level or coming across half-decent. Or worse, whether they would get pummeled on a weekly basis. He once more looked at the freshly trimmed twenty in front of him. They were better than the alternatives, that was true, but more of an indication of the current state of local football then anything else. From a neutral point of view, Marcus Puckett could be his best asset. As the group had been together for over a day now, most of his teammates already intensely hated the extremely confident midfielder. Price had hoped that key striker Pershing Major could be that dressing room leader instead, but he had the flair of a broom stick. If you looked at them, it did not yet seem as if they had forged lifelong friendships already. Price’s eyes wandered from one to the next. They all looked at him but as he passed goalkeeper O’Reilly, there was something far more intense in his stare than it had been with the others. Price stared back, trying to decipher what O’Reilly tried to pass on. Something like… ‘speak, you moron’.

Shit, how long had he been silent?

“And, ehm, as such, to conclude, I thank everyone for being here to support us. With this knowledge that the nation is behind us, we look forward to taking on Aphrilia and StrayaRoos. Hopefully, they will be the first of many to discover the potential and energy of our young but vibrant nation.”

Where did that baloney come from? First of many to discover the blah-blah-blah.

In reality, all Price could hope for is not to be completely leveled after two tough kickstarters. The Anchors seemed on the up since Bianchi had taken over a wharf. Archibald had taken a look at images of the Millennium Dawn and closed his laptop the first time he heard the home crowd roar. If the Red Turtles (who had come up with that, by the way) survived that, there was a visit from the quarterfinalist of the last edition. It had taken a future world champion to knock out StrayaRoos, which spelled little positive about the prospects for Price and his posse.

“Thank you, and to triumphs!”

Archibald Price had no clue how to make a courageous face but did make an attempt nonetheless. He only stopped as his glance crossed O’Reilly’s again: the message of the latter was easier to read now.

‘Stop speaking, you moron’.

We are into the fourth cycle of Thor's tenure at the helm of the Wanderers and while there was a brief moment where it seemed like things were getting worse, after last World Cup's performance and of course the last two Copa Rushmori tournaments, it is fair to say that the manager has the team trending in the right direction. A successful qualification campaign last cycle turned then into a perfect group stage and though the team did get eliminated in the first knockout round in a massive upset, it is hard to be too upset given the tipsy topsy nature those knockout rounds seemed to have. It was a tournament where the least favored sides were punching above their weight and so losing in the first knockout round after going three from three in the group stage, a group stage that looked quite difficult upon first draw as well, was a good result at the end of the day. Another trip into the knockout rounds of the regional championship, following on from the third place home edition beforehand, is also a measure of success as the team's regional fortunes had gone awry for three straight editions but clearly have improved under the management of Thor.

As part of his process, Thor has been doing all he can to help promote players earning starting places in the SuperLiga and that can be seen with an overwhelming majority of the players in the pool playing in the SuperLiga. Another trademark of Thor's time with the team is the growing acceptance of dual nationals into the national team, which while not forbidden before his tenure was often discouraged. Yet without that acceptance, the team would have missed out on Járngrímur, the amazing Graintfjall born striker who has been lighting up the SuperLiga for the last few seasons and has earned his starting spot in the national team this year. A taller lad who is faster and stronger than his frame would have you believe, he has natural finishing instincts and the clinical finishing to make good on getting into the right places at the right time. Also earning their spots in the roster are Katie Sherwin, a Dagan born fullback who has developed at Tani and Alyssa Chenoweth. Chenoweth is a midfielder who joined Turkish right around the same time Nephara quit entering into international competitions and she made the decision to switch her eligibility to Pasarga recently and has earned her callup with several great seasons in the middle with the Stein-los giants.

If there is an area of concern for the team heading into this upcoming qualification campaign it is the defense, specifically at the fullback area and the leftback in particular. Currently all of the national team options are in their early to mid thirties and that is not great and sort of works against Thor's ethos of working in talented young Pasargans into starting positions at top level clubs. With it just being at leftback though, it probably is something of an anomaly and there is no doubt a handful of young fullbacks looking to burst on to the scene in the next season or two, like Eugène Arkema at Tanrısal. However them being ready in a year or two does not help right now and the team is likely going to see a lot of rotation at both fullback positions in order to ensure that the legs are there for the players. A bit more interesting is seeing the exodus of the Sardin United national team players making their way to Duke of the North after the Riversiders failing to promote back to the top and the Dukes managing to do so and having an immediate top half performance. It makes sense though, going from one of the traditional defensive powers to the other, as both had to deal with surprise relegations recently.

Speaking of the group, it is one that could potentially spell a bit of trouble as the middle of the road pots are going to be challenging, getting regional rivals Sargossa as well as the second seed of TJUN-ia, who seem to perform well enough to cause trouble for their first seeds. Saterun, Legalese, and potentially even Cobrio could spell a bit of trouble for the Wanderers, especially the latter two when the team heads to Anaia to take them on. Something about playing in that region is a difficultly for the Wanderers, who seem to prefer to play in Arrosia, Esportiva, or Rushmore to have success. After that the group really falls off and that is probably to be expected, though those games are going to be vital points all the same. The side will look to reestablish the feeling of the Stade de Torgos being a fortress as they open up their qualification campaign against unranked Notcommunist3, before traveling a few days later to Cobrio for the first real early test of the campaign. Getting six points in this first international window is the goal but four would be acceptable as long as the draw is in Anaia, as the side looks to ensure they start the race for qualification on the right foot.

Report from Tverinsk: Pyazhnaya's Training Camp Before the WC99 Qualifiers
By Tasha Lekhova, Football Correspondent | Pyazhnaya Sport

Arrival in Tverinsk: A Coastal Calm Before the Storm
If you’ve never heard of Tverinsk, you’re not alone. A sleepy coastal town nestled in the north of Pyazhnaya’s scattered archipelago, Tverinsk is better known for its fish stew and foghorns than football. But for the Pyazhnayan national team, it’s the launchpad for what could be their most important campaign yet.

With World Cup 99 qualification looming, Aleksandra Agratova’s squad arrived in Tverinsk by ferry and chartered bus, greeted by a curious mix of seabreeze, drizzle, and curious onlookers with steaming mugs of berry kompot in hand.

Despite the chilly welcome weather-wise, the mood was bright. The players – many of whom know each other well from the Tikariot Premier League – were laughing, nudging each other with duffel bags, and ribbing the rookies about the "haunted" team lodge that overlooks the bay.

“Honestly, if we don’t qualify, it won’t be because of chemistry,” quipped vice-captain Danila Terentyev, the team’s laid-back right midfielder. “It’ll be because someone breaks a toe on that godforsaken rocky beach.”

Orientation: Agratova’s Vision and a Bold Whiteboard
The first team meeting set the tone. Head coach Aleksandra Agratova, dressed in her trademark crimson windbreaker and steely calm, addressed the players in a converted boathouse now serving as the team’s tactical room.

“We’re not here to just try,” she said, her voice sharp over the creak of the wind outside. “We’re here to finish in the top five, no, top four - screw it, top three of the group. Maybe more. You’ve all played big games. Now it’s time to put it together.”

She outlined her now-familiar flexible 4-4-2: high pressing from the forwards, fullbacks pushing wide, midfield tasked with disrupting rhythm and launching quick counters. Special attention was given to building synergy between veteran CM Misha Retyunskikh, the midfield marshal known for his icy control and laser-like passing, and young striker Maksimilian Kartashov, a raw but lethal finisher from Tovaca Thunder.

A new wrinkle? Occasional shifting into a 4-2-3-1, with Terentyev or Reznikova stepping into an advanced playmaker role. “We want to be fluid,” said Agratova. “Predictable teams don’t qualify.”

Training Days: Sweat, Rain, and Screaming Seagulls
Over the next ten days, Tverinsk was turned into a football fortress.

Morning sessions were intense: defensive drills at sunrise, keeper reaction circuits led by goalie coach Pavel Rozhkov (who reportedly drinks two raw eggs before each session), and endless tactical repetitions. Elisey Moroshkin, the presumed #1 in goal, impressed with his vocal command and improved distribution.

The defensive unit, led by Vladislav Ilyushin—a no-nonsense centre-back who calls everyone "comrade"—has started to form a solid spine alongside 20-year-old phenom Fyodor Solodnikov, the quiet reader of passing lanes who trains with eerie intensity.

“Ilyushin tackles like he’s still fighting for food rations,” joked winger Timofey Aristarkhov, who himself impressed by routinely burning defenders down the left during scrimmages.

The attacking corps, featuring the energetic Mukhametshin and precocious Shafigullin (only 18!), spent afternoons working on movement and timing, with Agratova barking instructions through a megaphone: “Don’t just run—arrive!”

Evenings in Tverinsk: Cards, Bonding, and Some Fishy Business
Football may have been the focus, but camaraderie was the heartbeat of the camp.

Off the pitch, players gathered in the common lodge for movie nights (the vote: “Zima! Zima!,” a slapstick comedy about a cursed ski resort), card tournaments, and the now-infamous Fish Stew Cook-Off. Surprisingly, it was fullback Serafima Vakhrusheva who won with her spicy seafood blend, earning her the nickname "The Chef de Goal."

A secret “rookie challenge” emerged midweekToktamish Shafigullin, shy and soft-spoken, was dared to sneak a carved wooden gull into Agratova’s room. He did it. She found it. He ran.

The next day, Agratova reportedly taped the gull to the whiteboard with a sign: “He plays if he scores this week.”

Scouting the Group: Hope and Harsh Truths
The players took part in video sessions reviewing their Group 3 opponents:

Yuezhou (14) and Baggieland (35): the titans. “If we get anything from them, it’s gravy,” said Misha Retyunskikh bluntly.
Aleirave (44), West Vdara (63), Calgasia (99): dangerous and varied. Solid teams Pyazhnaya must get results against if they want to stay alive.
Safiloa (243) and Gopnikea (274): beatable on paper. But “no match is easy,” warned assistant coach Viktor Peremsky. “Especially away to Gopnikea. Those fans throw cabbage.”
Shep (UR) and Visayas Islands (154): unknown quantities, but also ripe for points.

Agratova emphasized consistency. “If we can win the matches we’re expected to and split the rest, we’ll be right in the mix.”

Bonding, Breakthroughs, and One Massive Slide Tackle
One of the camp’s most heartening moments came on the eighth day during a scrimmage match between “A” and “B” squads. Late in the game, Naira Akhatova, the tall and tenacious centre-back from Port Rhovanyon, executed a full-stretch slide tackle to stop Sonya Mordvinova from a sure goal.

The entire squad applauded. Agratova, usually stoic, cracked a grin. “That’s what I want,” she said. “Pride. Fight. Play like it means something.”

The Road Ahead: From Tverinsk to Krasnograd
With the camp concluded, the squad now returns to the capital for final preparations ahead of their opening match at home in Krasnograd against Safiloa. Spirits are high, fitness is strong, and the mood is cautiously optimistic.

There are still questions. Will Kartashov’s scoring touch translate under pressure? Can the midfield hold its own against Yuezhou’s pressing? Will Varvara Zavrazina get minutes if Moroshkin slips?

But one thing’s clear: this isn’t the same old Pyazhnaya.

From Tverinsk’s foggy shores to the roaring crowd in Krasnograd, this team feels different—hungrier, tighter, maybe even ready.

As Agratova said, looking out across the bay on the last night: “Every qualifier starts with a belief. Let’s make them believe in us for once.”

Projected Starting XI vs. Safiloa:

Kartashov Mukhametshin
Aristarkhov Retyunskikh Novoseltseva Terentyev
Vakhrusheva Solodnikov Ilyushin Bilyaletdinov
Moroshkin

Let the games begin.

WC99: Surely this is our tournament, right?

Wow. After coming off a heartbreaking WC proper miss last WCQ (that wasn't actually all that heartbreaking), the Dhemixians have managed to get themselves in one of the lightest groups of the World Cup Qualifying stage. Now, that's not exactly saying much, as referenced by the fact that the Serpents themselves just barely snuck into pot 5, but that's pretty much the story of the whole group, sneaking into pots they don't really belong in. That's not to say there's not much competition, trust me on this one, there is, but it is saying that the Dhemixian squad aren't as out of their element as they were last go around. We'll start with Pot 1.

Ko-oren is a rare team, wherein you not only dread to play them before the game, but everyone collectively dreads to watch the game as it's happening and after it's already happened. What do I mean by this? Well, to give you some perspective, the average goals scored per game they're in is somewhere between 1.25 and 1.5. For both teams. This is pretty much "1-0 win or 0-0 draw": the team. It's a wonder how this strategy even got them to pot 1 in the first place, but clearly, the talent is there, and there will be no better team to start the qualifying cycle against.

The Holy Empire is another team like this where you see talent hidden within a seemingly unconventional strategy. Evil Swole Santa and the equally nefarious elves behind him run a 3-5-2. That's not all that uncommon, until you realize they overlap wingers into a 3-3-4 and play the most aggressive football most people have ever seen. Much like Ko-oren, except on the opposite side of the spectrum, it's a wonder how this strategy of constant attack has got them into Pot 2 at all, but the talent there makes up for it.

This narrative could be continued throughout the entire group, for instance, with Oberour Ar Moro's nonstop attack 3-3-4, much like THE, or Doubeia's moderate attack like Dhemixia with a 4-1-3-2. The point i'm getting at here is the fact that, despite the ranks being low as a whole, and the reasons behind that, this group still oozes with talent from end to end. Just because every team may seem to be on the lower end of their pot doesn't mean Dhemixia's gonna have an easy time dealing with them, but it does mean every match will provide a unique challenge. We'll just have to see how MD1 and MD2 show this fact, with an impending 0-1 and 0-5 loss respectively via the shell shock of going from playing one of the most defensive teams in the tournament to one of the most offensive sides.

Rambles WC99 - Pre-Q

Postby TJUN-ia » Thu May 22, 2025 1:13 pm

The Random Rambles of a Jaguar - WC99 Qualifying Edition
with Killian Looker

Back-to-back cycles of similar magnitude.
For the Jaguars of TJUN-ia, football is in an interesting place. For the last two cycles, David Seems and Liu Xiu YIng have managed two cycles where we scraped our way through the playoffs, went through the group stage, managed at least one knockout win and them proceed to get knocked out by Eshialand at the next CE. It was similar and repetitive but considering our history as a program, we will take this any day of the week. The Jaguars enter this Arrosian World Cup - co-hosted by Siovanija and Teusland, Banija and the Squornshelan Remnant States - #25 in the world, a place that seemed befotting of us right now. We're good enough to be recognised, but no one is claiming we can win the big one just yet.

For WC99, Diana Sharafutdinov will aim to lead this team back to the knockout stage for an unprecidented third-straight cycle and see what happens from there. To do this, we will have to escape a ten-team group where it is pretty simple to understand - Top 3 to Arrosia, everyone else goes home. It is simple, yet it is also a pressing format that requires all hands on deck to ensure we don't miss the boat to the Finals - and the 9 teams in our way certainly aren't pushovers. We have:
- A Top 20 Team (Pasarga)
- A team we have certainly played before (Sargossa)
- A very familiar name (Saterun)
- The Paralegals who like to host stuff (Legalese)
- An Anaian team known for fighting back (Cobrio)
- Good luck pronouncing this one unless you hail from Sanktuarium (New Crywyzyxycynya)
- A name we certainly know from the past (Sharktail)
- A team who finished bottom of their BoF group (American Generations)
- And a complete unknown with a unique name (Notcommunist3)

All unique opponents, but we just have to be ahead of 7 of them to make it to the dance again.
History is in our hands. Let's not waste this chance.
GO JAGS!

It is this time of the year again, the beginning of the World Cup Qualification. In comparision to the last Ralsalien World Cup qualfication, everything is changed now. With numerous sensations and victories over the stronger teams, Ralsalin is shrugging off the past stereotype of the Order beign an absolutely depressive place with nothing to be happy about. For now, the Order has it's Knights of Eternal November, who is capable to do the most unbelievable things. Who initially thought that Ralsalin would defeat Zwangzug at the Cup of Harmony? Who could imagine that Ralsalien Independent Associations Championship 23 campaign would be saved by a goal from Nikolai Gosens, the team's keeper? Nobody. But, contary to the common sense, it actually happened.

Image

On the last matchday of the IAC 23 group stage, Ralsalin was losing 0-1 against Taxhavn by 11th minute. Suddenly, on 20th minute, Nikolai Gosens kicked the ball so hard, that he managed to score a goal and equalize. Kevin Heen scored the final goal on 32nd minute, securing the second Ralsalien victory on a group stage and third place in a group. Gosens, author of the first goal, can't believe what he had done in that match even today.

Who could predict that after the terrible first season in the IFCF competitions and Ralsalin's dead last position in the national coefficents ranking, Skonto Rinkan, the new Ralsalien champion, would be stopped only in the last qualifying round before the Champions League group stage, and then would reach Round of 32 in the Challenge Cup? No one. But they done it.

Image

Viktor Aniko, the captain of Skonto Rinkan and vice-captain of Ralsalien national team, was a crucial part of Skonto's success.

Who could even imagine that Ralsalin would actually have two clubs on the group stage of the IFCF competitions? Nobody. But Dinamo-98 Kogeru qualified to the Liga B Champions Trophy group stage. And the entire Ralsalien football community discovered Alexander Obamawartin, a prolific scorer, who scored 7 goals in the LBCT tournament (including qualification) and achieved a call-up to the national team.

Image

Obamawartin could be harsh sometimes...

Image

But without him and his 7 goals, the tale of Dinamo-98 would have not occur.

Even the domestic league could bring surprises. Who would predict, that newly-promoted Spartak Rinkarwar would reach the IFCF spot in their first season and delegate several players to the national team, including the new main 11 player Makar Rantika and the debutant Sander Danishevskiy?

Image

Kasyan Menon and Sander Danishevshkiy. Guess who is who?

Once depressive Ralsalien football reached new horizons and achieved new highs, giving Ralsaliens a cause for happines and a hope. After the Independent Associations Championship, national team now stands on the...

Image

118th place of KPB+ World Ranking. This was enough to be put in the 6th pot of the World Cup draw. As it was earlier said, everything is changed now. Before the start of the World Cup 98 qualification, no one in Ralsalin believed in The Knights and concidered the signup for the qualification as a mistake. But now, Ralsalin is starting to slowly make a name on the international stage, and the expectations now are, of course, higher. Earlier, finishing not on the last place was concidered a success. Now, the Ralsalien Football Union thinks about finishing in the middle (5th-6th place) or even try to fight for the 4th place. Would The Knights of an Eternal November succeed in it and again, under an eccentric manager, do something that is contary to the common sense? We will see it soon.

SPORT: Knights enter qualifying following strong CE campaign, friendlies serve as humbling

BOGEN: The excitement in the Vielfaltigian camp was high following the strong display the side had put up at the 40th Campionato Esportiva. The side had entered the Campionato in South Newlandia as a relatively unknown side that no one predicted to have the tournament they had. We had a strong start to the group stage with wins against Zalinivia, Kaumann and Macbon after having drawn a goalless game against Gouvanarch in our first tournament game. These results meant qualification was mostly assured as we faced off against the mighty TJUN-ians in our final group stage game. The game was a slightly unimpressive display from the Knights as they succumbed to a 2-0 defeat. The high spirits of the team remained, however, as they knew what mattered was the upcoming knockout games, and they needed to be at their best. In the round of 16, we faced off against a formidable 14 Stars side and in an incredibly close game, we emerged victors owing to a late DeGarmo goal from a Faraldo corner. We were then pitted against Kanzlia in the quarterfinals, which yielded an incredibly cagey encounter. With goals in short supply, we scored the game's only goal yet again from a corner. This Julietta (equivalent of Cinderella in Vielfaltig) run, however, was about to come to an end as we faced the eventual champions, Eshialand. In a game where we were outclassed, the Eshians took complete advantage of our inexperience and put three goals past us. This was still a valiant effort by the side in the tournament, and still, the third-place playoff remained. Up against Katzeburg, it was yet again a close encounter; however, two late goals from Profeta and Abrant ensured that we would be leaving South Newlandia with the bronze and the title of the third-best footballing side in Esportiva. The impact of this strong performance was immense in furthering football's popularity domestically. The Vielfaltig Football Federation has received a significant boost in funding, with these funds being allocated to developing the domestic leagues and modernising football infrastructure in Vielfaltig. The VFF has already announced a collaborative project with VSC Mogendorf to renovate the Schottmer Field, expanding its capacity to 30,000 while also bringing its facilities to modern standards.

The success in the CE has created palpable excitement with regard to the football team, with qualifying on the horizon. We enter qualifying with very little chance of actually making it however, stranger things have taken place in this competition. The side was subject to a rigorous pre-WCQ training programme, which was complete with a tour of Esportivan friendlies. The team needed to find its competitive edge once again with a pivotal qualifying campaign on the horizon. We started off against the side at whose hands, or rather feet, we tasted defeat in the semis of the CE. Playing Eshialand, the reigning CE champions, was a tough ask, more so when the game was being played with thousands of Eshians backing their team in Eshialand City. The result was as expected and potentially even more worrying than before, as we succumbed to a 4-0 defeat. The team still remained in high spirits with two more games of this friendly tour to go, with us heading to Kanzlia next. The Kanzlians were out for revenge after we had unceremoniously knocked them out of the CE in the quarterfinals. We were no match for them on the day as they comfortably cruised to victory with two early goals in the game, guided by the support of nearly 50,000 fans at the Stadia Szbedansk. This is when perhaps doubt had started to creep into the minds of the players and the staff. Had other sides figured out Matthias Hahn's tactical approach, were we being too rigid in terms of our structure, or did we need changes in selection? There were numerous questions for Hahn to answer and very little time. He seemed to have placed his trust in the group that got him huge success at the Campionato, and whether it was a good decision remains to be seen. Our final game was against an opponent we had not faced before, as we took on the side from Limey George. It was evident from the very first whistle that we were up against a team that prioritised scoring goals and did not care for their defence. Our defence was not ready to cope with the pressure they put on, and soon we were down a few goals. The players were not ready to give in, however, and we fought back. The result was perhaps the most exciting game we have seen in recent memory as it finished 5-4 in our favour. This was a critical win for the morale of the team, and despite lingering concerns, the side had some momentum to take into qualifying. The group draw served as another reminder of the challenges which the team would face, with us being drawn in Group 14 with the likes of Sarzonia, Vdara, Gnejs and Drawkland. This qualifying campaign seems to be greatly important for the present management, especially with the Federation's ambitions growing and looking to rapidly ascend in stature. The Federation could also look to bring in greater experience to manage this side if they feel it has grown beyond the ability of Hahn, for whom a poor campaign could be very costly.

POLITICS: Marignien Separatist Groups outlawed, 10 MLAs suspended

MONTEBELLO: It was a sunny afternoon in Montebello, the capital of Vielfaltig, as two cricketing heavyweights, Ko-oren and the Plough Islands, battled it out at the Quanta Stadium to reach the final of the 5th GCF World Trophy. However, what was to be a momentous occasion for Vielfaltigian sport turned sour, tarnishing our national image and pride. The cricketing festival in the form of the World Trophy was supposed to put Vielfaltig on the map of nations worthy of international recognition and hosting events of a high standard. It was on this day of the semifinal that an intruder made his way onto the ground carrying a large canvas bag loaded with explosives before being detained by the police. The Montebello State Police efficiently ensured that the intruder was quickly apprehended and that the resulting circumstances resulted in no casualties. This was nonetheless a great blot on the international reputation of the nation, and the greater consequences were yet to come.

Much was not said about the identity of the intruder on the day of the incident with an extensive investigation being carried out afterwards by the National Investigative Directorate (NID). The only public information provided by the Chief of Montebello City Police was a potential link to the Marignien Liberation Group, a separatist group which advocated for Marignien independence. Last evening concluded the investigation which was followed by a joint press briefing chaired by the Minister of Interior Affairs, Louis Britiny, and the Chief of the NID, Timothy Renaud. We were informed that the perpetrator was a man named Clemence Boucher, aged 28, with an address in Linxe, Marigny. In the press briefing, the links to the Marignien Separatist Movement was confirmed as the man was also a member of the MLG which is a recognised political party in the Marigny State Legislature. In an even more shocking revelation, members of the Parti National Marignien (PNM) were also indicted in having collaborated in this incident. This was alleged primarily on the basis of suspicious money transfers from accounts of PNM members including a councillor in Migennes to the perpetrator. A suspected motive has been ascertained being potentially causing disrepute to Vielfaltig and creating chaos so as to help their movement. This allowed the NID to classify the MLG and the PNM as extremist organisations and thus their parliamentary rights stripped from them.

PNM leader Timothe Roux speaking to the press shortly after made clear that his party had no role to play in the incident which took place in Montebello and that no member of his party has any link to the perpetrators. He also called this accusation towards the MLG "baseless" and that it was a mere tactic to weaken their struggle for "freedom". He also went on to confirm that an appeal has been lodged in the Walbourg High Court against the classification of the MLG and the PNM as extremist organisations. For the duration of the legal process, the 10 MLAs remain suspended and could be expelled from the Legislature if the appeal is lost. The timing of these revelations could not be worse for Roux as with the Marigny State Elections approaching later this year, the movement for a plebiscite was gaining traction. This incident could see the movement for such a plebiscite be set back decades with people fearing growing extremism. Members of the PNM and MLG however have assured their supporters and the people of Marigny that they will represent them even without official recognition and run as independents.

In a question posed to Britiny at the briefing he was asked whether the government will take any measures following this lapse in security which allowed such an incident to occur in the first place. Britiny assured us and the people of Vielfaltig that the government is cognizant of the shortcomings of our intelligence services and significant strides need to be made to improve it. This process however is not very simple given the growing deficit and a slowing Vielfaltigian economy constraining the spending power of the government. He also pointed out that there are systemic restrictions too on the activities of the NID which makes its operations in certain circumstances difficult. To solve this, the ULA has introduced the Public Safety Act (2001) which grants extensive powers to the NID for domestic surveillance particularly when it comes to potential threats to national security. The Act also includes clauses pertaining to budgetary expansions. The Liberty Alliance has come out in silent opposition to these measures questioning the efficacy of more surveillance. Greens leader Masson however has condemned such measures calling it oppression and against the fundamental rights of Vielfaltigians.

As the multiverse gears up for another World Cup, the Emus are going in, somehow, as a pot 2 team, having made the Quarterfinals last time before losing to eventual champions Flavovespia. Although, since it’s looking likely that most of the current generation of players will be retiring en-masse within 2 cycles, it’s probably one of the better shots the Emus have got at somehow winning the whole thing for a while.

Even if the Emus are the second highest seeded team in Group 13, it looks like it’s gonna be a difficult one to get out of. The most likely scenario seems to be five teams competing for three spots, those five being the Emus, The Kytler ‪Peninsulae, Happiloper, Aphrilia, and Kimi-Suomi. All of the other four are quite capable of beating the Emus on their day, and could easily throw a wrench in their qualification chances if it happened several times. ‬

‪Apart from the teams expected to be in the hunt for qualification, the other teams in the group could pull off some surprises. The most likely teams to have a chance at some sort of giant-kill are Natkr and Alanis Star, neither of whom the Emus have faced before, so both could be real checks on the team’s complacency levels, although, so could lowly ranked teams like Germanic Cat, Anewkansas or the North Polish Union, results against whom could be crucial if the group’s result comes down to goal difference. ‬

‪Overall, as the Emus face Aphrilia and Germanic Cat in the first window, they’ll need to get off to a quick start, or they can kiss goodbye any hope of going better in the finals than they did last time around, or even getting to the finals full stop.‬

Captain Bassi apologises on behalf of team but stands by Brelk-Xeral

After a stunning 6-1 defeat to Kanzlia, the players were left stunned on the pitch looking to a largely empty away stand as most of the travelling fans had left early sometime between the fourth and fifth Kanzlian goals. This has added fuel to the growing calls for a change in the national team, both in calling for Brelk-Xeral to step down as well as calls for fresh blood in the national team. Talking to the press captain Clara Bassi did apologise for a performance and that any loss is hard to swallow, that losing by five goals, only avoiding equalling Carpathia and Ruthenia's biggest ever loss thanks to a late consolation goal deep in added time, was something of an embarrassment for the nation, and that she offers the sincere apologies of the whole team and that they understand what it means to put on the uniform. She added that Brelk-Xeral is someone who has won trophies on the highest stage and someone she has the highest respect for, it would be a tremendous mistake to part ways.

I would echo her calls not to get inflated and carried away by the scoreline here, yes seeing 6-1 isn't a scoreline you want to see on the newspaper stands however as is often the case in football the score isn't the full story. On Kanzlia's side they were in absolute top form and managed to convert every chance they had on goal, on an average day perhaps the scoreline would have been more respectable however they were certainly the more deserving team at the end of the ninety minutes. However on the other side of things, even six goals down the fact we still not only kept our heads up playing, we still went on the attack even till the final whistle and were rewarded with what may simply be a consolation goal, but I see it as more a goal of our fighting spirit and in football it's often guts that win out in the end so let's not go catastrophizing just yet.

LOWS AND HIGHS: THE VISAYAN FIRST EXPERIENCE
Iloilo City, Metropolitan District and Lahaira, Aleirave

The fans were expected to see the boys in Light and Dark Blue to qualify for their first World Cup. But it wasn't easy for Ayala's boys as they take on the powerhouse, Yuezhou and a regular in the qualifiers, Aleirave. "It wasn't too easy for us to play against them.", says Ayala. "I mean we do our best but we need some solutions to beat them." And it was their first game at the Colossus of Jaro, the King Alfonso XIII Stadium, where they will play against the giants, Yuezhou. The people in the stands and the "La Banda del Toro" barra brava had been already cheering for the Sky Blues. But the match? Wasn't going well as Yuezhou took 3 goals in 2 halves against Ortega's net. But before the Yuezhou last goal, Marasigan scored a screamer that the LBDT boys going on full avalanche. The score is 1-3 in favor of the Yuezhou. "It was a good game after all.", says Ayala. "But we don't have enough defense to take out these giants, even though Marasigan found a way into the Yuezhou net." Ayala also said about the Aleirave match that he could do a solution for the weakening defense and learn their mistakes from the recent match to secure a victory against them. And they have learned their mistakes as the Bulls went to Lahaira to face the Aleiraveans to meet them at the Old Ground, which is a relatively small stadium in the city. But luckily, the LBDT boys have dominated the whole stadium outside of the 100 seats, which is kind of full of Aleiravean fans. But the boys bringing in some flares and stuff to cheer for the men in Sky Blue. In the first half, the Aleiraveans made the Bulls do their own mistakes on their defense, scoring 4. But before the halftime, Villariño scored the turning point goal for the Sky Blues as the Visayans went on to learn from their Yuezhou mistakes and started to get better against a 44-ranked nation with Villariño scoring 2 more goals, Viray scoring one, and finally, the substitute, Manolo Arnaiz scored the penalty in the last minutes of the match. And it was a victory for the Bulls as they won over their first win over a higher-ranked team. "I told you that we learn from our mistakes!", says Zaldarriaga. "We're gonna having a good time! Fuck yes!" "I have done my promise after the Yuezhou match.", says Ayala. "We have learned from it and won over Aleirave. Hope the boys will do their best against both West Vdara and the newcomers, Shep." The boys in light and dark blue will face both the dystopian country of West Vdara, and the newcomers, Shep both in the Adolfo Nastazzi Stadium in Roxas, the home of the Pearls. Will they overcome the odds against them?

During the 23rd IAC

When Reçuen had won the Cup of Harmony the year before the IAC, the nation was elated. People celebrated in the streets. Bars sold out of alcohol. The whole country was decked out in crimson, violet, and gold banners, swept up in a wave of national pride and soccer enthusiasm.

The FNRF, seeing the groundswell of sentiment, moved quickly to capitalize on the situation. Michèle Simon, one of the FNRF executives, pitched the idea after her staffer Yves Sabatier had suggested it to her, and when the federation voted to bid for the tournament, Simon and Sabatier took the lead on organizing the tournament.

The IAC had come to Reçueçn once before, fifteen editions ago. During those halcyon days, Jacques Tremblay was still manager of the ÉNRF, and the IAC still felt like a shiny new tournament just emerging into its adolescence. Reçueçn's équipe nationale had been on a hiatus, but had come back out of nowhere the cycle before to qualify unranked for the World Cup and win third place in the previous edition of the IAC. The same way it happened last cycle, an unexpected sporting success proved the initiative for a host bid. Enthusiasm was high, and it was borne out in a championship victory! Not only did a fledgling Reçueçn team win the IAC, they did it at their home stadium, in front of their own fans.

That home tournament victory was one of the defining moments of Reçuecian soccer. That cycle, with the World Cup 83 unranked qualification and the IAC 8 championship at home, passed into history as Reçueçn's first zenith. Years later, it would become a rallying cry, as then-manager Bonheur Relié launched a campaign appealing to the "Spirit of 83".

For the 23rd IAC, the FNRF tried to capitalize on that same spirit. Reçueçn was hosting the IAC again for the first time in fifteen cycles. Surely, if they'd won at home before, they could do it again. Les Licornes had just won one of the only two tournaments more prestigious than the IAC. Surely this moment would be the team's new apogee.

However, the wave of high expectations and enthusiasm was not the only trend gaining momentum. Another movement had also been quietly gathering steam in the background.

Ever since its inception, the FNRF had been a men-only organization. Admittedly, there were some women who held administrative positions, even on the executive board. And when the newly-founded Ministry of Sport had forced the federation to re-charter itself and overhaul its organization, it had broadened its scope to include women's soccer in Reçueçn. But the women's league had always been separate from Le Championnat. Women were not allowed to play in the LNRF (Ligue Nationale) pyramid at any level, and were not called up for Les Licornes to play in WCC events. Although a women's league did exist, it never received press coverage, and no Reçuecian women's teams had ever participated in UICA or IFCF play. And there was no "équipe de Reçueçn feminine" or ÉNRF equivalent for women. For any Reçuecian who had been born a woman or identified as anything other than a cis man, there was no path to ever playing for the nation. Even to events like the Jenna Raven Cup or the Summer Olympics, for which one might have hoped a women's team would be called-up, Reçueçn sent no athletes.

Initially, Reçuecians had not considered this one-sided status quo to be wrong, or even remarkable. In the world Reçuecians came from, no one questioned the separation of men's and women's sports. But as the nation began to participate in the multiverse more and more, opinion began to shift. Reçuecians looked around at many of the nations in the WCC where men and women competed on equal footing, on the same teams and in the same tournaments. Reçuecians had always thought that some undefined distinction in physical ability made co-ed teams an impossibility, but the sheer, exuberant diversity of the multiverse proved that in the eyes of Margaret, everyone was created equal. Slowly, Reçuecians began to question the status quo.

The FNRF, of course, pushed back. As an institution, the federation was resistant to change. Its oligarchic nature, where representatives from a handful of large teams still controlled an outsized share of the executive board, meant that the FNRF would always act to protect the interests of a handful of wealthy men at the top.

For years, it had been easy for the FNRF to sit back and do little. Although public sentiment in Reçueçn had been changing, no one seemed to be doing anything about it. The federation could stay largely inactive and remain confident that the status quo wouldn't shift. And while it rested on its laurels, the FNRF grew more and more out of touch with the feelings of Reçuecian sports fans and athletes.

All of that finally brings us back to the 23rd IAC. In Reçuecn, a decade and a half had passed since the nation first entered the Baptism of Fire. Rébecca Firaut, the daughter of the équipe nationale goalkeeper, had been born during Reçueçn's first World Cup qualifying campaign, and was about to turn fifteen that summer, during the IAC. Like her father, she loved soccer, and she had followed in his footsteps to become a soccer prodigy. She had been coached by Franky Adams, Les Licornes' best striker, and a family friend to the Firauts. Now, at almost fifteen years old, and with her abilities, she knew that she would want to start playing professionally in just a couple years.

But Rébecca knew that as things stood, that was impossible. Women's teams in Reçueçn were typically amateur, receiving little funding and no press coverage. Rébecca knew she was better than that; she deserved more. Even as a fourteen-year-old, she was ready to do what no other Reçuecian done, and do something about the situation.

Through Franky Adams, who'd spent time working at the Ministry of Sport, Rébecca got a tour of the ministry as a birthday present. She and her mother visited La Citadelle, the medieval castle complex that housed Reçueçn's government, and she got to see how its old stone towers. But Rébecca was less interested in history than in her future. She confronted Jean-Luc Lassalle, the minister of sport, letting him know in no uncertain terms that by the time she was old enough to play professionally, she expected him to have fixed the women's soccer situation in Reçueçn.

Lassalle, however, had done little since then. Likely he had been busy as Reçueçn mobilized to host the IAC. So Rébecca, refusing to let her life pass her by without achieving her dreams, took matters into her own hands. She began attending Reçueçn football matches holding protest signs, urging the FNRF to change its policies barring female athletes. The tiny spark the teenage girl ignited rapidly kindled a wildfire. Athletes and supporters across the nation turned up in support of Rébecca and the women's rights she stood for. Protests were held outside stadiums as the nation hosted the IAC, and fans inside held signs and wore black to make the message visible in front of the multiverse's television cameras.

The FNRF struck back. Incensed by the protesters "ruining the image" of the precious tournament it was hosting, the federation clamped down, setting harsh restrictions on fan behavior. The FNRF hoped to make the protests as invisible as possible, but it underestimated how many people were on Rébecca's side. When her own father took off his jersey during a match to reveal a t-shirt underneath with a slogan supporting Rébecca, the FNRF ejected him from the game and levied a fine. When the rest of the team wore armbands to support female athletes, they were ordered to remove them.

The harsh federation response only served to further anger the already discontented protesters. Jeanne Chartray, a political columnist for the Reçueçn Times who Minister Lassalle had assigned as the ministry's representative on the FNRF executive board, dissented with the federation's stance in an op-ed she published at the end of the IAC group stage. "The federation is on the wrong side of history," she said.

As the federation's own members and players joined with the protesters, the tension between the FNRF and Les Licornes became untenable. The federation had put its foot down, refusing to allow the players on the équipe nationale to support the protests, in direct defiance of their deeply-held beliefs. In a statement, the FNRF said that any players violating the policy would be "barred from further participation in the tournament."

In response to this, Les Licornes did the only thing they could think of. It was the most Reçuecian thing they could have done.

They went on strike.

At their first knock-out game, in front of their home fans, with the tournament on the line, the équipe nationale walked off the field, forfeiting the match and the championship.

The fans were in an uproar. Both in the stadium and across the nation, many supported the protesters, but many more were furious to see the ÉNRF throw away the chance to win another IAC at home. The federation responded with a scathing open letter, essentially telling Les Licornes "you can't quit, you're fired!" The team, however, insisted that they were not quitting, merely on strike ("en grève"). While the FNRF focused on wrapping up the IAC with as little incident as possible, the team gave speeches, made television appearances, and continued to participate in the protests led by Rébecca Firaut and her organizing team.

The IAC ended with Juvencus claiming the championship, but with their own team eliminated, the minds of the Reçuecian fans had been turned toward the upcoming World Cup qualifiers. Would the strike be resolved before matches were set to begin in just a few weeks?

The FNRF took quick steps to make sure it still had a team to submit to the WCC. Sabatier and Simon took the initiative and immediately terminated the contract of manager Hyron LeBouffe. The found a no-name replacement, Gale Briseur, and instructed him to call up an entirely new squad, blacklisting all of the protesting players.

Unfortunately for the federation, the strike was spreading. The next season of Le Championnat was set to kick off not long before World Cup qualification, but it, too, barred women from participating. Led by the ÉNRF players, players across the league began to join the strike, refusing to play for their domestic clubs during the season. Le Championnat and the pyramid below it were under the FNRF's management, just like the ÉNRF, and so the two causes became one.

"I am not going to put on my gloves again," Gerauld Firaut announced, "to play for any team or league that wouldn't also let my daughter compete."

Sentiment across Reçueçn is mixed as the new Licornes squad prepares to take on Ralsalin in its first qualifying match. Many support the protests, but fans have also expressed disappointment at the lack of familiar faces on the new squad. The new team, derided by protesters and the striking professional players as scabs, are mostly amateurs with little to lose. They are joined by a few D-list players from the LNRF: Di Fiore, Aguiar, Brauer, and Lemoine.

The old squad—the twenty-three players from the IAC 23 roster—continue to make public appearances and join protests alongside their old managers Heissler and LeBouffe. They are led by Rébecca Firaut, her mother Samantha, Jeanne Chartray, and Eveline Martel (another FNRF dissenter, representative for women's soccer on the federation's executive board).

Only time will tell if public opinion can make the FNRF back down, if the strike will sap popular enthusiasm before that happens, and whether the substitute squad of scabs will be able to hold their own against the multiverse's best in the meantime.

Foxglove Hostel
Bridgetown, Eastfield Lodge

It had been some time since Arianne had arrived in the city, and she was getting a little testy. She hadn’t expected to be waiting here for so long, and the 23 year old really didn’t want to risk going out in public just to get her clothes washed. Peeking through the blinds, she could see the cooling towers that littered the industrial district, the stench of various petrochemicals filling the air around the building. It may have been well off the beaten path in Bridgetown, and certainly not a place for tourists, but it was cheap, and more importantly, the owners believed her story about her lost ID. She turned around, collapsing onto the single bed and picking up the book she’d brought to pass the time, a Pasargan murder mystery novel that wasn’t especially well written.

Fortunately, her imminent boredom was nipped in the bud by a series of knocks. It was the signal she was hoping to have heard a couple of days before now, except it seemed to be coming from the window. Confused, Arianne looked, and could just about make out the outline of a head and a waving hand through the blinds. She walked over, peeked through the blinds, and quickly opened the window, pulling in a man who looked like he just crawled out of a bush.

“Where the hell have you been?”
“What happened to hello, Miss Black?”
“Answer the bloody question Perry. I’ve been bored out of my mind in this shitty hotel. You were supposed to be here two days ago.”
Standing up and brushing himself off, Perry looked around the room. “Don’t blame me, had to lie low. Like, literally, lie under some bushes.”
“You were being followed?”
“No, I decided to sleep in the park. Of course I was being followed, you idiot. Lost them though.”

The pair sat down on the edge of the bed, with silence falling between them for a few minutes. Arianne was the first to speak up. “I’ve found the cache by the way. It’s a bit out of the city, but it’s hidden. Mostly pistols, few rifles and plenty of ammo. Not sure how we’re gonna move it without anyone noticing though.”

Perry stopped fidgeting with the blanket for a moment, before reaching into his backpack. “Lucky for you, I’ve managed to secure a van and some IDs. And I know where we can get the mods we need to transport the cache.” Pausing for a second, he mumbled, “If we even get that far.”

Arianne rolled her eyes. She’d had to put up with his pessimism for so long now, and it was almost endearing at this point, except for how annoying Perry could get when he was like this. “Look, the others are counting on us here. We need all the weapons we can get if we’re gonna win. We can’t fail now, and we’ll fuck over the Ossers if they try to stop us here.” Grabbing her backpack and packing some wire and lock cutters, she headed over to the door, before remembering how Perry looked. “You might want to get some new clothes man. All of mine need to be washed.”

OOC: I promise to have a full year-by-year listing of Charles Trump Shield finals somewhere, someday. Uni Coll's five wins were 1984, 1986, 1998, 2005, and 2006. If they won any others in the 2011-2014 pseudointerregnum which hasn't been scorinated yet because we no longer have two IFCFs per World Cup like we used to, you'll find out sure enough.

Group of Six Twenty-Nine meeting (LX) --- SAINT ELEANOR 1-1 Tanirinthia (aet; 3-5 pso)
Participants: Gentle Breeze, Reniira Clevinger, Stephen Mitcham ~ Bridget Coombe [C], Cathy Winchester [VC], all other players [by convention]
Location: Back at the Paladon Bay Hotel, Avanaroch, TKT

MAJOR MATCH EVENTS: Öhân 52; Bacchus 31. Shootout (TAN first): Holt O [0-1], Coombe O [1-1], Wheeler O [1-2], Hart O [2-2], O'Brien O [2-3], Öhân O [3-3], Hancock O [3-4], Hollenberg X [3-4], Payne O [3-5], --- [3-5; shootout already lost]. All Eleanorians are NOT available, as Wunderbar was sent off ten minutes before the end of the second half - a rare, but understandable, bad day for him - and Woodward's ACL has gone haywire.

LESSONS LEARNED: The post-match consensus was that "maybe we should start taking more penalties" (~ Kavezalea). However, a significant minority - perhaps even a majority - thought that this was "a frustrating match all told" (~ Rachel), "a reasonable struggle" (~ Bridget) or "as close as you can get to surrender without giving up" (~ Robby).
The first half was seen to be "a good fight, and definitely not a vain one" (~ Keith). Although Payne was a known annoyance and by far the most potent of the Tanirinthian strikers, "we did an eminently good job at stopping her" (~ Esther). Instead, the glory went to Bacchus after half an hour, sliding her shot across the face of the penalty area and comfortably into the other side of the net. The record will show six Tanirinthian shots on target in the first half to our two - the Mighty Oaks were surprisingly aggressive and more than competent in defence, but our frontliners "tried almost every tool in the book" (~ Naclé) to get past them.
Woodward's injury was "obviously devastating" (~ Tim ) - there was some outrage that Manning was not sent off for his troubles - but Tim himself must not be faulted for his action in the final hour. After Naclé restored the scoreline with his own, somewhat less remarkable effort, Tim was always on hand to pre-emptively sniff out danger in the earliest stages, engage in metaphorical tugs of war, and avoid further embarrassment after Wunderbar's blazing-hot red card. "By all accounts, he was the man of the match" (~ Lydia); "Tim's the reason why this match didn't end with us losing 4-1 after 90 minutes" (~ Lily).
Extra-time was evenly-matched, although "I'd say we were very slightly closer to a winner" (~ Bridget - Coombe, not Payne, nobody's spying on us). The penalty shootout was "almost flawless" (~ Sylvia, bringing an unusual amount of self-awareness to the meeting). Given all that's happened today and earlier, I don't think we can fault Sylvia for getting it this close to 4-4, but "I still think I should have saved Pat's penalty" (~ Arielle). A lot of what-ifs to consider here, but nothing really worth dwelling on above and beyond what if we made the quarter-finals. "We'll get those bastards next time!" (~ Denise).

RECOMMENDATIONS: "Slowly but surely remains the watchword with this lot" (~ Graham). All things considered, we were good but unlucky at almost the worst possible moments, even though "the defeat to Island Fusion was to be expected" (~ Katy). This can be a winning team if everyone wants it to be; this has often been the attitude, but it has unfortunately not been 100% of the time by 100% of the people. No naming names - some of us have had genuinely bad days!
Hollenberg has long announced her retirement before the recent tragedy; Northend is no longer of much use to us, given her declining quality compared to Öhân's rising star, so replacements will need to be found for each. Otherwise, the recent generation has been limited in number and arguably quality, if high in potential, so some searching will need to be conducted to see who's a better fit than our current remnant.
As always, 1-11 will start on MD1 (less Wunderbar, who is obviously suspended; my current thinking is Lydia instead), while G6 will be used to decide the team for all subsequent matchdays.

MOVING FORWARD: Olympia will be handling notes for MD1 of WCQ99, since she obviously wants (and needs) to be doing work with us; accordingly, there will not be a ballot in advance of that matchday. SEFA will be organising a major press conference tomorrow afternoon at which I'll summarise the notes made in this meeting there.

Michelle Addison: "I honestly don't have a death wish"
Chief Football Correspondent Jamie Rodgers runs the rule, and the occasional guideline, with the Polytechnic's first star winger
Originally published on Friday 23rd January 2015

Michelle Addison is, to some people, the greatest thing to come out of the Polytechnic Institute since Tim Hart. "They would almost certainly be right, because we're both in the national team together. Thanks for the generational talents, Paul and Mike!"

You would not normally expect someone who lost her father on-duty to be so bubbly, but Addison has her reasons. "Dad was, quite honestly, a bit strict with me about some things. I think it goes without saying that he 'held down the fort' while my mum was just working, trying to get by for herself. There were a lot of street thugs around in the 1980s and early 1990s, though, before we really became a civilised nation, so I don't think it was surprising at all that one of them took out dad. Then you, as mummy, have to deal with doing everything by yourself. She got something like five or six hours' sleep every day during my Community School days and I'm surprised she didn't complain once." Did she ever consider going into the Army for herself? "Yes, many times. I honestly don't have a death wish, though! There are occupational hazards, but I'd say they're tolerable enough and I'd recommend it to anyone who cares less about their studies than I do. Really, I'm surprised Denise [Livingston] and Izzy [Isabella Bright] still haven't lost so much as a finger between them; they're tough cookies but they're also smart cookies."

For all her feted - and her father's ill-fated - connections to the south, it comes as ironic that she was almost a celebrity at University College. "I wasn't in student government or anything, but some people thought I was this close. I just liked sports, though. I did okay in everything else - not to University level, but not to stacking-the-shelves-at-OPAL level either - so that is how I ended up at the Poly. I made a lot of friends, though." It is therefore unsurprising that she was on good terms with virtually everyone on the Charles Trump Shield-winning team in 2006, their second in a row and their fifth of all time. "I'm not sure how much you can conclude from four games, other than that Duncan is a really good manager. Obviously, I liked Naclé J[írraósôás] and George [Morgan] a good extent among the starting lineup - we'd go out together, have fun, just do random things and so on - but I would definitely say Olympia [Woodward] was the undisputed leader of that squad. You don't captain the team, win the Golden Backpack, and not get called that; my fangirls were a bit tepid compared to hers, if we're being honest. We did bond together over the most random thing - she's a vegan for reasons of personal conviction, I have lactose intolerance, Pia seems to have an absurd fondness for almond milk of all kinds, so she'd normally leave my mum a carton every now and then when we met, since customer service doesn't pay as much as you think it does. Mind you, she is much more middle-class than I am."

This attitude more than carried over to the radically different surroundings of the Polytechnic Institute football club. "We were bad but we weren't that bad, weren't we? You can look at the league tables if you want! I was what the real professionals call 'an appointment pulled out of someone's ass;' I was literally just doing a course at the Institute when I was asked if I could consider maybe joining the new team they were putting up to replace Juventud and I thought sure, why not, I might even drop out if you want me to. They did, I quit - I think I might be the first dropout in national team history - and, as you can expect, I started constantly. Not because I'm friendly, because just about everyone is, but because I turn up on time, know what I have to do, and don't act ridiculously."

"I know you don't ask a lot about that sort of thing anymore, but if you will let me put up one example, please?" Most certainly; I always appreciate it when people speak for themselves about their own achievements, even if their Eleanorian sensibilities might suggest they rather wouldn't. "2010, near the end of the season, we'd picked off Hiyashi Celestia and thought that the Army right above us would make a good challenge too. What I did is I worked with Mike Adamson the manager, pointed out some weaknesses in Kevin Bryson's game, then moved as fast as I could, sometimes in different directions, float the ball backwards a bit to avoid all the technicalities and Bea[trix Hill-man Tower] got a goal out of one of those manoeuvres, too. I think everyone knows we won 4-3. People love talking about Gisken Aldra, BHT and so on but I think I did okay, too, even though I'm not much of a goalscorer - you said so yourself. Kept on putting in the hard yards, helping out with winning games, and now look at me!"

It should be clear at this point in the interview that Addison is not quite as abrasive as someone like Bright would be. "I would never smack-talk her. She's perfectly fine! She has her own opinions on things, but that's okay and she is maybe the second new person from this squad I've grabbed a quick lunch with? Esther Launceston was the other; not new, by any means, but appreciative of the opportunity and confused about why she'd want or need to have Willis' famous fried chicken before 8pm. I have actually tried to talk to as many people as possible - even the people like Lydia [Nicholls] that people like to think is a stuck-up bastard is actually okay to talk to - and I think the spirit is that everyone is happy, satisfied, willing to work for the team, a bit eccentric if they wish to be... the last time they weren't, we crashed out of our first ever Cup of Harmony, or so I've read. I was still in primary school in those days, so don't think I know everything about the issue!"

Michelle Addison is an explosive character on and off the pitch, but in a good way. A relentlessly positive attacker and someone who will always try her best for the team - even if she isn't starting for them, as will so often be the case here - she is also an expressive, almost fervent communicator who tries to get along with everyone and have fun in doing so. There is little, if any, greater honour than this in Eleanorian football.

Why? George Mitcham, General then and now, cofounded the National Liberation Front in 1971 to demand a free Saint Eleanor. He got his wish in '75 after a 15-month war: becoming President, appointing notable NLF friends and some charity's executive director as VPs and calling them legislators. He has retained power through oil money; zero income tax; free healthcare, schooling, public transport - and markets; tolerating dissent on apolitical matters; allowing private gun ownership (with plenty of training) to protect against future invasions; high-quality PR; and football.

drunk-dazed - enhypen

Félicien knew what Vixettean parties were; they mostly comprised someone hosting everyone, and then everyone coming over and enjoying themselves whilst indulging in the host’s home-cooked food. As Félicien stood and observed this foreign party he’d been coerced into attending, he suddenly felt homesick.

Félicien knew Vixette wasn’t majorly different from other countries, but at the same time there were many differences that made foreign countries way too intimidating for a lion like him to visit. It was always the darned looks from the humans. Everyone — he meant everyone — would gawk at him and Blanchefleur anywhere they were walking. He couldn’t parse their reactions: was it disgust or intrigue? Curiosity or fear? Blanchefleur was the more outgoing one, approaching everyone she met with a bright smile and a broken English. Félicien himself was much more fluent in the language, but suddenly he didn’t really feel like saying anything. He let Blanchefleur do the talking.

In this… the humans of this country call it “club”, everything was way too overstimulating for Félicien. Bright lights across the entire colour wheel ricocheted off the walls and floors, and loud, brash music played. One would expect the partygoers to be as energetic as the setting, but for some reason everyone was content with standing around, bopping their heads to the music and occasionally partaking in small talk with the person next to them. Félicien was confused and concerned. Weren’t parties supposed to be a social function? Barely anyone was social. He observed Blanchefleur attempting to chat with some humans, and he couldn’t say she wasn’t successful. Everyone was amazed by her non-humanness. Even as Blanchefleur indulged into the vice of conversation, Félicien kept a watchful eye on her. For some reason, he couldn’t trust the humans. He was religiously obliged to distrust them anyways: according to the Tetralotoi, humans were demons of greed and laziness, and right then they seemed to perfectly encapsulate those values. He didn’t want Blanchefleur to follow in their footsteps, but it seemed like her curiosity overrode any suspicion she might have had on them.

“Beautiful and brilliant, my glittering vision is a diamond. In a world with no rules everything's been turned upside down.”

The song lyrics suddenly hit a chord with Félicien. A world with no rules… Félicien could see how the humans lived with no rules. As he and Blanchefleur walked through the human city they were staying in, he could see two polarising ends of what the human experience was: extreme wealth and exuberance took up one end, and poverty and violence the other. Everything seemed so different from Vixette, and he felt like he had stepped from an organised, calm society to an anarchist, messy one. It didn’t feel right. As the music continued, those sentiments creeped all over his skin. Then, they penetrated him. Then, he suddenly felt a pressing need to leave the party.

Félicien walked over to Blanchefleur.

“Fleur, we need to go.”

“Why?” Blanchefleur asked indignantly. She seemed like she was enjoying herself if her bright smile said anything.

“I don’t… I don’t feel comfortable,” Félicien looked sheepish as he said that.

“Oh…” Blanchefleur trailed off for a while, “Well, sure. Let’s go.” She seemed like she didn’t want to leave as her dragging of her feet may have indicated, and Félicien felt guilty for that. Still, another minute in the party and he may have…

The two walked out of the party door as the song trailed off behind them.

“My heart's in a daze, daze, daze again. Can't control my body, dance, dance, dance.”

Félicien let the lyrics sink in.

“Humans are so interesting,” Blanchefleur quipped, “It seems like they have so many ambitions, and they want to do everything! In a way, it’s cool, don’t ya think?” Blanchefleur looked at Félicien expectantly, but he didn’t know what to answer. He didn’t want to tell her he had a distaste for humans, but he found no reason to lie.

“I… don’t have an opinion,” he replied. He let out a sigh as he observed the humans walking in the night that didn’t feel like night. There were neon signs illuminating the walkways, and if anything, the humans certainly weren’t acting like it was the night time. They seemed perfectly content with partying and doing all sorts of exuberant things. He, on the other hand, appreciated the tranquility of the night, and the human city was anything but.

“We should go to the park,” Félicien suggested.”

“You always want to go to the park, Feli,” Blanchefleur joked as a mirthy grin crept onto her face, “Is that all you know here?”

“I just… I just prefer nature, that’s all,” Félicien said as he tried to reciprocate Blanchefleur’s jolly demeanour with a playful lilt.

“Whoa, whoa, are you flirting?” Blanchefleur teased, turning her head to look at Félicien dead-on. She giggled as a pink blush appeared on his fur.

“W- d- what?” Félicien stuttered, flustered, “Fleur, you know I didn’t mean that…”

“I’m just joking!” Blanchefleur replied with a cheeky tone, “Anyway, if you wanna go to the park, I’m always open!” At that moment, she extended her arm and held Félicien’s paw. As Félicien felt his paw grasp Blanchefleur’s, his blush darkened to a bright red. He didn’t know how to feel. Tetralotoiens weren’t supposed to be too intimate with someone of the opposite gender, but there was a fuzzy feeling in his heart as he held Blanchefleur’s paw. For some reason, he didn’t mind.

“This… hand-holding…” Félicien didn’t know how else to continue. His embarrassment ate all his words.

“Silly Feli!” Blanchefleur laughed, “It’s a sign of being close to someone! I learnt it from the humans.” She cocked her head to her right as her grin subsided into a warm smile. Félicien couldn’t lie, his heart beat just that bit faster when he saw her smile. She really looked like her name: a flower. A white flower. She was anything but white, but she was a flower.

“Hmm… we are quite close after all,” Félicien said, ruminating on Blanchefleur’s explanation. He squeezed Blanchefleur’s paw in his, and then he heard her squeal. Now was his turn to grin at her as she looked flustered. She looked like she wanted to say something, but didn’t verbalise it.

As the two walked to the city garden, Félicien observed the humans around him. Some were still haggling their goods in the deep of the night, while many were still walking around and they didn’t look like they would be resting any time soon. It was a bit fascinating, seeing all the humans living their lives 24/7. In a way, he was curious. He wanted to experience what they were experiencing…

…but he still prefered Vixette.

Team Cardenao at the World Cup; Starting 11 Discussion!

Alright, let’s dig down a bit and talk about the team representing Cardenao at the 99th World Cup, coming off a surprise runners-up finish in CAFA 11. This is a Blue and Golds squad that is built to function and succeed like a team, gone are the days of Chímo Ventura, Haritz Larrainzar, or Juanma Saez dragging the team to victory. So today, we’re going to look at the players, look at the starters, and see who these fools are and what they’re all about!

Let’s start with the man between the sticks, Mr. Kai Chidubem. At 30 years of age he’s basically a boy in goalkeeping aging and he’s been around the national team for a couple years now so he’s one of the last pillars remaining of the Top-50 team. Kai is a fantastic goalkeeper, really an elite shot stopper with his massive 6’7 frame. He’s not the best with the ball at his feet, but as long as you can stop the ball from going in the net, well that’ll have to do! Add on Kai’s absolutely elite trash talking and you’ve got a keeper! That smack talk goes great with right back Fito Peru, who is quite the jokester himself, I mean who can forget when he untied Jason Jenner-Pokka’s shoelaces during the game against Kimi-Soumi, what a cheeky lad whose loved in the dressing room if reports are to be believed! Fito can be spotted charging up the right flank during games as he tries to whip one of his great crosses into the middle. He’s not the most solid defensively, but he’s got good timing for tackles and knows how to keep his winger out wide. Off the pitch, catch him riding one of his many motorcycles around the country, especially through the mountains of Western Cardenao. Looking at the heart of our defense, we’ve got #4 Vittorino Seve Dioli holding it down at centerback. The 24 year old is one of the most talented defenders we’ve produced, not only is he immaculate when defending, rarely putting a foot wrong, but he’s also a menace with the ball at his feet. Vito is a great passer across all levels, but he has an especially nice cross field pass that he just pings so sweetly across the field. He’s not afraid to get up in attack either when the game calls for it; Striker Vito is very much a meme in Cardenao. He’s a very reserved individual, always gives terse, to the point responses when talking to the media, and it’s probably easier to spot a unicorn than it is to see Seve Dioli out and about, man likes his privacy! Partnering him at centerback is 33 year old Philbert Drathenew, Philbert is a proper hardman who will just kick the shit out of his opponent if it seems like he might be beat, which makes for a great paring with the more elegant Vito. Off the field, man Philbert can always be found at the nearest bar knocking em back with the locals, especially during international games. Finally, we’ve got the captain Moustir-Yves Almeny holding it down at left back. Still only 28 and solidly in his prime, Moustir is fast as hell, he can dribble real nice, he can tackle, cross, shoot, he’s the perfect wingback who charges forward in attack and is a brick wall in defense. He’s real creative, always has a tricky solution to any problem he faces, and that sort of consistency has made him mainstay of the team since he was 20. In his younger years, you could catch Moustir racing around New Cardonia in one of his Dilajo sports cars but he seems to have given that up as he matures some and he can now be spotted leisurely fishing in the hottest spots across the Iceethuh Sea. But enough about defense, how bout those boys in midfield?

Well the midfield has historically been the powerhouse of the Cardenaoan national team, a smart midfield and a sharp striker have been the foundation of any ‘success’ the team has found. I’ve mentioned the name Haritz Larrainzar several times this article and with good reason, Haritz is a hero of the national team and an absolute legend with Port Rhovanyon in the Tikariot Premier League, who was able to control games with his precise passes, great understanding of attacking dynamics, and world class free kicks–Team Nao certainly misses Hartiz and, while the current midfield is plenty good, there’s no player who quite matches the quality of Larrainzar but that’s okay, this team is the sum of its parts! The man anchoring the whole thing is 25 year old Jake Casales at the 6 and to be honest, this guy could have a second career as a model! I suppose he does with his endorsement work, but phew to be 6’3 with a jawline like that, and he’s brilliant at footy too! Jake Casales is an absolute rock both in and out of possession, he’s got great positioning so he’s always where he needs to be to recycle possession or shut down an attack, and he’s got these long legs he uses to stab and poke the ball away from an opponent before hitting a peach of a pass through the defensive line. It’s a telling sign of how Cardenao plays the game that they’ve opted for a possession focused player as opposed to a purely defensive destroyer in the 6 role. In front of him he’s got the delightful Ricky Delafont ahead of him. Ohhh Ricky Ricky, what a joy to watch you Tiki Tiki! 5’8 and born with the ball on his foot, Ricky Delafont is a clever dribbler who always has his eyes up scanning for a through ball. Sometimes he holds onto the rock for a little too long and losses possession, but with his vision and ability to cut out the narrowest passes, well you just have to live with that. Off the pitch he’s the life of the party, always showing up to events, always finding the red carpet, always chatting and joking with fans, Ricky really is living his best life. Putting it all together is Camilo Zavala, who has rocketed from nowhere to stardom at 26 years of age. Camilo is a primarily left footed player who plays as the 10 for the Blue and Golds and he has been blessed with phenomenal touch and dribbling abilities, this man just glides around the pitch setting up play after play, occasionally chipping in with a goal himself. You’d maybe like to see him test the goalkeeper more often, Zavala has a good shot on him, while his penalty kick record is spotty at best, though he’s quite nice at freekicks. Another area of concern is, despite his impressive on the ball ability, Camilo often doesn’t track back on defense as often or as intensely as he needs to and that can land his team in a tricky situation. The game is won and lost in the midfield, the Cardenaoan team has a lot of skilled, creative passers in the midfield but perhaps lacks that bit of steel that could see them to the Final. I suppose we’ll just have to score more goals than the other team does!

Speaking of goalscoring, let’s talk about goalscorers starting with Kiko Nécib. The man wearing the 9 for La Furia Azule has developed quite nicely since storming onto the scene six years ago as an 18 year old wonder kid. Well, for his performances against Audioslavia alone, seemingly scoring in every game against them, he has fulfilled his potential. Always in motion, Kiko is ever searching for an opportunity to slip through the defense to finish off a well weighted through ball. He can tuck ‘em away with either foot, he can score from close, medium, and long range, he can curl them in or bang the ball past the keeper, the lad is a goal scorer through and through and that’ll do for me. Feeding him opportunities is ChuChu Hernandez out on the left wing. First off, this boy is fast as hell. Second off, this boy got a wicked cross off his left foot. Third off, this boy's name is ChuChu Hernandez and that’s just fun to say! When he’s not getting it done on the field, ChuChu is quietly putting together a second career as a TV star, especially medical sitcoms. The final member of the starting XI is Dimitri Micalizo, a real Jack of all trades from Cardinia FC. Mr. Dimitri really can do it all on the right wing, he can dribble, he can pass, he can shoot, he can tackle, he’s like some sort of super utilitarian knife that can be used for a lot of purposes. The three forwards all bring different aspects to the attacking gameplan, and together they make it work.

It’s going to be a long qualification campaign, but Team Cardenao is determined to show the world they can still ball. Blue and Gold, La Furia Azule forever!

This RP is part of the Mystery Of Flight 134 story arc.
Part 1 | Part 2
The friendly with Baker Park was scorinated using the alpha version of LISA by Quebec and Shingoryeo, whom I'd like to thank once again for providing relevant background information on both an IC level regarding his nation and on aviation-related details that have informed this narrative.
The provisional default settings were used (power scalar 1.984, reference rank 10.93, REAR 300).

To say the scene was emotional at the Clituleng Giisost Stadium in Alaer was an understatement. Here was the first Kytlerian match since the tragedy, and normality really didn't feel like it had set in yet, or possibly ever would. Even talk about what this new era would look like - how will Vicente be deployed? Who starts as the notional number 9 in a system that doesn't want a traditional one? - took place inevitably within a painful context, that Andrew Patterson's team had been violently dismantled on board Flight 134.

The social media post to announce the lineups an hour before kickoff was literally the graphic showing this and the caption "For the 328." There was no point even pretending there wasn't a context to this one. And the context is all the more raw precisely because nobody is yet sure exactly what happened and why.

The Shingoryeoite Transportation Safety Board (STSB) and their Kytlerian counterparts the Aviation Investigation and Regulation Board (AIRB), with additional assistance from Banija and from the Quebecois military, have been scouring the southern Blood Sea waters to find the wreckage. After a painful initial week where nothing was found, a shift of the search further to the north found the first bodies and a significant piece of the wreckage in the form of the plane's vertical stabiliser. Investigators had gone out of their way to emphasise that no cause had been established and would not for some time, but they did say that one thing was known - that the messages broadcast from the plane were inconsistent, specifically in regards to the speed of the plane.

That has focused attention on tiny components known as pitot tubes that protrude out of the body of the aircraft and are crucial to the measurement of air speed, and this is now at the heart of the investigation even as the search for the remainder of the wreckage goes on. Rumours of a terrorist plot ran wild in the immediate aftermath - perhaps unsurprising considering both the collective public shock and the way this would absolutely have been something Varnian terrorists might have dreamed of - and some pointed to the presence on the plane of not only a gender-diverse squad (including Blær Patreksbur, who scored in their first and last start for the senior XI) but a media corps that included the first woman to be a lead Kytlerian TV commentator in KBT's Olivia Barnett. These rumours then turned briefly to that of pilot murder-suicide when it emerged that the first officer, George Waddington, was born and raised in Varn before moving to the Bay City northern exurb of Macados to be closer to Kytlair's Zube hub. Reportedly some in the STSB felt AIRB were focusing too much on the possibility of terrorism, but AIRB have a general reputation for taking their time and not ruling anything out too quickly - especially something that does have a plausible narrative around it that perhaps those not embroiled in Kytlerian culture might underestimate.

In any case, the grieving Waddington family were questioned on a purely exploratory level and it became rapidly clear that he was anything but a Varnian separatist; in fact, it was discovered he had donated to the Workers' Party during the election campaign that swept Clituleng Giisost to power and ended the Kytlerian Isolation. And while the true secrets of Flight 134 may be held only within the orange box containing the flight data recorder - and good luck finding that at the bottom of the Blood Sea - thoughts are now turning away from who would cause the presumed safest plane in the skies to crash so suddenly, and towards what would.

Clituleng Giisost Stadium, Alaer, The Kytler Peninsulae
The Kytler Peninsulae 2-1 Commonwealth of Baker Park (Beverwijk 51, Vicente 63; Yrko o.g. 35)

A packed house at "The G," Baker Park ready to try and silence the near-57,000 inside, a setting sun letting an orange hue through the open corner that serves as both homage to the ground it replaced and symbol of the ethos of the former FC Alaer manager whose political career is why there even is a Kytlerian national team, the tinted windows of the private box overlooking the home dugout indicating that he was present in person for a rare public appearance since his epilepsy diagnosis - we've been here before. That time, the home fans came in frenzied anticipation and left in shock as Baker Park surged into an early lead that they never once looked like relinquishing; this time, the emotions were very different, the pain of that night in Alaer long since recontexualised by a true disaster. Despite their reputation for an almost absurd level of commitment to squad rotation, they were the ones who had more of the starting XI unchanged from the prior meeting. The Kytlerians, in fact, had just one player in common to the two starting XIs - Vicente, who only avoided Flight 134 because his Q-League commitments meant he wasn't going back to Zube from Joongyeong.

After an emotional rendition of the national anthem and a perfectly observed silence, it was time to get on with the purpose of even playing this match in the first place - namely, those questions of how Hooker's 4-1-4-1 would port from the Aardvarks to this new-look Kytlerian squad. This seemed to be a narrower interpretation, with Vicente on the left of the midfield four and Yvie Grant-Estill often inverting from her notional left-back position into more of the deep midfield role she's set to fill for the decimated AFC Edencliff side this season; then again, that might have been a response to the visitors' system, with its very narrow back three. For a friendly between one team who constantly rotate their players anyway and one that have been hurriedly assembled in the aftermath of tragedy, it was a contest with genuine pace and quality - but then both of these nations churn out industrious and technical players by the yard, so this shouldn't have been surprising.

Just as in the last meeting, it was the visitors who struck first - a fizzing low ball across the face of goal that Yrko could only deflect past a hapless Peter de Beukelaer before Fatima Khan could do so. Was it against the run of play? Not really, but it was only with the run of play in the sense that it didn't feel like it could stay at 0-0 for much longer than the 35 minutes it did, both goalkeepers having made fine saves in the first half-hour and an audacious lob from Vicente dropping onto the goal rather than into it. 1-1 would have been the more accurate reflection of the first half, and it took barely five minutes for it to become the actual score as Stijn Beverwijk drifted into the right channel and skipped past a challenge before tucking the ball neatly into the bottom left. The cheer that greeted it was not so much louder or quieter than usual as somehow feeling different in some other way - and even moreso when it turned rapidly into theatre-like applause, as if to collectively say "thank you for even being here."

It would happen again twelve minutes later for what would prove to be the winner. Grant-Estill moved onto the left touchline, then drifted inside after cutting the ball back to Yrko under pressure. Receiving the return pass in a more central position with a broader press bearing down on her, she simply lifted a ball over the top of it towards the left flank she had vacated. Vicente took one touch with his left foot to bring the bouncing ball under control and cut inside, and a second with his right to curl an unstoppable shot off the inside of the far post from the corner of the penalty area. The new era still had the one superstar from the old one, and this was the most emphatic and beautiful way to bring the two together.

The "Kytler Forever" chant rung out around the G on multiple occasions in the final ten minutes, and again after the final whistle. This was an international friendly with on-field objectives in terms of both the result and laying technical foundations for the bigger games ahead, and the home side met those. But it was also - and more significantly - a national occasion; at once a state funeral for the 328 on board Flight 134 and a celebration of what those at the front of that plane represented, not to mention an affirmation that their legacy would be continued.

Holy Harps Victorious!

Postby Of the Golden Harp » Thu May 22, 2025 6:30 pm

World Cup 99. The long awaited tournament of the beautiful game. The Golden Harp 1-0 Sadame.
The match started in the national stadium of Sadame, a brand new nation in the World Cup. The Holy Harps brought the energy from the first microsecond, nearly getting an interception merely five seconds into the game, but Sadame managed to clear, and the ball went right to the ever reliable Darren Keane, who sent it up the field to wingback Evan Kelleher, who lobbed the ball over the head of Sadame’s right back, where it went to Jones Collins who then took a shot from 20 yards out, but it hit the post and fell to the feet of Sadame’s right center back. From then on the Holy Harps continued a relentless press, that remained mostly fruitless, until a bad pass made its way to Garbhan who passed it up to Conall Buchanan who took a powerful shot from in the box, but it just went into the arms of Sadame’s goalkeeper. The first half passed with only the two shots on goal for the Holy Harps, until Paul Johnson pressured Sadame’s goalkeeper who tipped the ball right to Johnson, but managed to get a foot on it, which barely tipped it over the goal. The Holy Harps didn’t get a corner as the whistle blew for halftime. Buchanan kicked the ball off to Garbhan, who then sped up the field with the ball, avoiding defender after defender, until he reached the goalkeeper, who he knocked the ball passed, but as he went to tip the ball in, he felt a tug on his boot and fell to the ground with an ache in his ankle. Red card for Sadame’s goalkeeper. Penalty for the Holy Harps. Paul Johnson stepped up to the edge of the box, took a deep breath, relaxed his shoulders, stepped with his left foot, and ran to the ball, taking long strides. He reached the ball, got his foot under it, and kicked it at the top netting with might an main. The ball flew threw the air, hit the top netting, and buried itself in the back of the net as Sadame’s goalkeeper stood in the middle frozen with indecision. The stadium went silent as the Holy Harps began to celebrate madly. Even Garbhan found a way to stand up with his injured ankle. All of Dublin was cheering as the ball went into the net. A minor earthquake was even noticed. Similar celebration could be found throughout all of The Golden Harp and Munster. At kickoff the stadium was so silent you could here a pin drop. Belief in victory had faded for Sadame. Nothing they could do would stop the Holy Harps. Gameplay continued, but this time with Sadame just trying to avoid another goal. 40 minutes passed without a shot on goal, and the stands began to empty with just five minutes left. The Holy Harps retained possession. Sadame couldn’t get it until Jez Brodie slipped over a wet spot on the pitch, likely from lack of proper upkeep. While Brodie was on the ground Sadame’s striker took one dribble and fired the ball towards the corner of the net, but to no avail as legendary keeper Jason O’ Finnegan was there to knock it away. He kicked it down the field as the whistle blew. The Holy Harps had won! Game one. Victory. A goal. Spirits were at a high comparable to when the Holy Harps won the CLECSC. The journey home was a joyous occasion as the entire team was celebrating. Dublin was covered in blue and gold as people hung banners, and waved flags. Nation wide celebration like this has been relatively unheard of. Next up: the Ochre Islands, ranked 126 places above The Golden Harp. Normally people wouldn’t expect anything else but a loss, but things were different. The majority was confident in the team. The Holy Harps can do this. The Holy Harps can win.

Approx. 30,000ft. Above International Waters, Three Hours after the Baptism of Fire Round of 16

The ice in his glass clinked against each other as his plane hit a spot of turbulence. Prince Frederik, Duke of Roslund, and the younger brother of Queen Sophia was flying back to Solgavden after attending the last match of the national team's BoF campaign. Well, not only was he in attendance, he was the Solgavish language commentator for the match. The story of how a member of the royal family stumbled his was into becoming a football commentator still manages to boggle the minds of many. Starting as a commentator for Lysborg team Torkola Village FK, he soon won the hearts of many fans through his expressive and dramatic play-by-play, almost as if he was telling a story as the game unfolded. After commentating the legendary match simply known as The Game in 2015, Prince Frederik began to take on a wider role in Solgavish football, becoming extensively intertwined with the national team. That brings us to today, and as he takes a sip from his drink, His Royal Highness is deep in thought about the shape of the Solgavish team. Even though Solgavden's hopes for a Baptism of Fire victory fizzled out soon after the competition began, he was still impressed with the team's performance. After dropping one of their group stage games, the team rallied back to force a draw against Wedich, and take the Round of 16 game to extra time. As potentially one of the lowest ranked teams in their group, Prince Frederik knows that the team still needs a lot of work before they can become competitive against the world's elite. He lets out a sigh, as he knows the only thing he can do is wait and hope for the best...and there's nothing he hates more than having to wait.

"Welcome to Lysborg, capital of the Kingdom!"

With festivities fully underway for World Cup qualifiers, the Ministry of Culture & Recreation, as well as the Royal Solgavish Football Federation, would like to extend an open hand to any and all foreign nationals who are excited to watch their team play at Harald Kistner Memorial Stadium. Lysborg is one of the historically important cities in Solgavden, being a center of Solgavish culture long before the country unified in the 19th century. As the seat of government, Lysborg offers a multitude of historic stops to visit before the game, including Storholm Palace, home of Queen Sophia and the rest of the royal family. Like many of the other major cities in Solgavden, Lysborg is a melting pot of many different cultures, ethnicites, and peoples, so it shouldn't be too difficult to find someone you can relate to! The 'Borg is also incredibly invested in sports, as the city hosted the first Kongensliga game at the historic Old Grönne Park in 1928! (Rega Lysborg beat Olympisk Kolvereid 2-1). The Lysborg Metropolitan Area is home to many top-flight teams, such as Rega Lysborg, Olympisk Kolvereid, Relv Sisse, and Torkola Village. Moving onto the stadium, Harald Kistner Memorial Stadium is the largest in Solgavden by far with a capacity of 82,000, and serves as the crown jewel of Solgavish sports. The final for the King Halfdan IV Cup is held here every year, as well as any other important events in both sports, and culture in general. It's namesake is Harald Kistner, the legendary football star who tragically lost his life in 1994, at the age of 36. His legacy lives on through this stadium, as well as the number 10 being retired by both Rega Lysborg, and the Solgavish National Team.
