Statement from the New Pacific Order

The Order has become aware that during her time as Empress, Xoriet, while arranging and attempting to mediate secret peace negotiations between the North Pacific and the Brotherhood of Malice, made statements that were unproductive and inflammatory. This is the first time the Order has seen the remarks or any particulars of these discussions.

The current government of the New Pacific Order condemns any inflammatory and unproductive statements made by Xoriet during these discussions. We additionally condemn her actions in allowing her biases to impact her ability to be an effective neutral party, and a failure to include all relevant shareholders and consider their positions and needs for a potential peace. We apologize for any offense or harm this behavior and these statements may have caused.

We urge any allies, treaty partners, and friends with concerns to reach out to us so that we can directly discuss any questions, concerns, complaints, or threats.

The people around me… like the people Xoriet called parasites and leeches? I have been here 9 years. I live by loyalty to my regions and the people who trust me and have since April 2016. I will die by it too. Maybe in a way you desire, maybe not. But that has always been my utmost priority.

For as much as I resent how much of insider Gameplay is done in smoky backrooms that most players never get to see, and for as much as that environment is where Xoriet has always thrived, she did not deserve a callout post from her successor that implies that the NPO has anything to apologize for, that there is anything she did that was actually detrimental to the NPO's reputation in any meaningful way. She didn't deserve this, because --

It wasn't any of your business, not everything that happens outside of your direct line of sight is "behind your back". Xoriet brokered these discussions on her own, without any regional backing, as an individual person that Malice and TNP trusted. The discussions, though fruitful, were ultimately unsuccessful in brokering peace, but successful in being a refreshing good faith dialogue between two parties with presently irreconcilable differences. It was over, done with, dead in the ground, before the clock struck midnight on the new year.

They were dragged up for drama by a coward who waited until Xoriet was happily retired, to drag her name without fear of blowback. The NPO should have just let you deal with it, let you live with the fact that a retired, now irrelevant player presented the idea that maybe the way Europeia, Balder, The League, et al engage with other regions is indeed parasitic and detrimental to independent foreign policy. They didn't have to apologize and make it sound like there were any other "relevant shareholders" that needed to be involved in that conversation.

The North Pacific should be taking notes here about who the MGC believes needs to be deeply involved in every conversation they have with a foreign power. They think they own you.

I really don't have any desire to litigate the NPO's statement with you, because it's theirs and that is that. Who are you to determine whether or not I like someone? Where do you get the idea that I have not worked with her extensively? The two of us were in Miniluv together long before you could even post on these forums. In the grand scheme of how long we've known each other, the entire time you have been an FA entity is the small anomaly.

Not only did Xoriet not say anything that she shouldn't have, but she should have said more and actually acted on any of it. She did nothing wrong, there was nothing to apologize for, and there was certainly no reason to drag her in retirement for it. The NPO had no reason to "clarify" anything to the Gameplay forum, because nobody outside of a select few even know what's going on. Most people don't even know who these comments were directed towards.

I can't give you a singular answer as to why I'm the only one brave enough to say anything about it publicly so far, but it's clear that you'd be surprised at the people who have thanked me privately for doing so. If I had to guess, nobody else wants to say anything because criticizing your clique gets you made into a public example, no matter how respected you think you are. I'm just in a position to not care about my standing falling any further in their eyes.
