Shutout softens Phoenix promise, 10-0
By the Phoenixes Sports Desk, Vaelis Brightsong

A highly anticipated cross conference clash between Lithrelir University and Felswyr State University unfolded as a damp squib for Phoenix fans. With both teams going into this fixture with records of 2-4 Phoenix fans could be forgiven for getting ahead of themselves thinking that the rookie team could actually upset another established team, with a final score of 0-10 in favor of Felswyr State, the game was a showcase of defensive dominance from both teams and strategic maneuvering from the Firehawks.

The game kicked off with Felswyr State immediately asserting control through a strong defensive lineup. The defensive ends, led by Arley Jiminez and Kang Jo-Beom, set the tone early with relentless pressure on the Phoenix quarterback Stormheart. Despite a series of quick passes intended for wide receiver Hearthsong and the promising freshman Leopardfoot the Phoenix offense struggled to find rhythm.

A critical moment came midway through the second quarter when Stormheart attempted to connect with Moonbeam only for the pass to be intercepted by Kiyah Everstrum. This turnover set up a crucial scoring opportunity for the Firehawks, the drive culminated in a field goal by Sean Robinson. The defensive pressure mounted, but despite numerous efforts by the Phoenix offensive line, led by the powerful Pewterheart and the swift Sapphireheart, no scoring opportunities emerged before halftime.

The third quarter was more of the same as both teams defensive football proved to be too strong to gain any yardage of note with both teams trading possessions without yielding any scoring chances. The battle at the line of scrimmage was fierce, with standout performances from Defensive Ends Leopardfoot and Kinnikinnick. The defence of the Firehawks was a relentless force against the run game suffocating any progress by the Phoenix backs. At the same time, the secondary of the Firehawks kept the Phoenixes passing attack in check. Skifra Stormheart was harried throughout the quarter.

As the final quarter began, the Firehawks defensive momentum only intensified. A pivotal play occurred when The phoenixes offensive drive stalled at their 32-yard line after a critical sack from Freya Odinsdóttir. With 6 minutes left, Felswyr's offense took the field and orchestrated a methodical drive, marked by powerful runs and a clutch catch from Ulrich Hammer. The Phoenix defense, although spirited, was worn down by a relentless attack. The drive concluded with a successful 27-yard touchdown pass, securing a 10-0 lead for Felswyr State. The final minutes were frantic as the Phoenixes offense pushed for a late score but a final interception by Karen Michaelangelo sealed the victory for Felswyr State.

Nobody was available for comment come the full time whistle.

A showcase of defensive prowess and testament to maintaining consistency on offense whilst under duress the Firehawks victory over the Phoenixes has shown many areas where the Phoenixes will have to improve to provide a challenge against formidable opponents in the future. Stay tuned, as this team is ready to soar once more.

Chemistry 101 Or Something

"He's a fine lab partner but honestly I don't think he's doing very well in the class, he just kinda does whatever I tell him to do and doesn't know how any of it works. He can't do a single one of the calculations and at this rate the one catch up day we get isn't gonna be nearly enough to make up for how far behind we're falling."

Now, Judith had a problem. She had ambitions to be a surgeon at Dupont-Lefèvre Memorial Hospital in Rouyoute. Unfortunately, she was stuck with an absolute doofus of a lab partner who apparently thought he could skate by because he was on the football team. And he'd been assigned to the one professor in the department who despised the football team.

"Have you talked to Professor Mort about it?" Valerie asked, but she was more preoccupied with investigating a potential chip out her nails.

"Yeah, he just said that a high performer like myself should savor the challenge or something."

"Did you talk to your partner about it?"

"Yeah, he doesn't say much. Normally just, 'okay' and 'sure thing!'" She put on a faux grin to mimic her partner, "I think the most I've gotten out of him was that I should followers his socials? It's all parkour and motorcycle stuff, plus a couple posts about being on the football team."

And that got Valerie's attention. She spun on a heel and grabbed Judith's shoulders, "Wait, your lab partner is Jack Archer? And you're complaining?"

"What?"

"You must've not gone to highs school around here."

"No, I lived in Highport..."

"Listen," Valerie started walking again, beckoning Judith to follow, "Jack's like a local celebrity. Running from the cops on his bike, 'no face no case,' he says, crazy parkour stunts, did I mention he has a motorcycle? And he's hot? I don't know if he has a girlfriend, so many people have tried to find out for years but as far as we can tell, he doesn't respond to DMs from any women." Judith didn't exactly respond, and Valerie reiterated the most important point, "Did I mention he has a motorcycle?"

"Yes, Valerie, you did."

"Okay, so figure it out. I'd be happy to tutor him."

"Could you?" Judith pleaded "I'd really appreciate it."

"Your loss."

Banka's Heroics Lift Richardson To Second Tight Win Over One-Win Squad This Season
-
Is It Time To Start Worrying?

Image
Governors wideout Lukas Müller after a reception in the second quarter

A 4-2 record through six weeks in college football's strongest conference isn't anything to panic about, obviously. Not when you've got a two-time champion at head coach and a program with a proven resume of success. Hell, being two games above five hundred at all in that scenario is pretty good - but it's the way a couple of those wins have come that have a few people giving Richardson the side-eye.

The Utahn schools have proven that at their best they can go blow for blow with the top programs in the NSCF - Loyola-Istria, Richardon, Cold Hill, they even gave Felswyr State a run for their money in the playoffs not too long ago. But that's not the case right now. Over the course of the last season and a half - sixteen games - Utah State and BYU have won four conference matchups apiece, and both teams have one win this season.

But despite that, the Wildcats gave the Governors all they wanted two weeks ago at home. And now on the road, BYU was just minutes away from knocking Richardson down a peg.

Midway through the fourth quarter, things weren't looking too bad - down 13-10, Richardson was still protecting their freshman quarterback, handing the ball off, and controlling the tempo. Then Jackson Zuercher ripped off a pass to Johnny Wall from thirty six yards out and all of a sudden they were up ten points with seven minutes to go.

For all the hype around Dex Banka, he hadn't been given much of an opportunity in this game. And one of Richardson's most popular fan accounts put it best.

Image
Image
Image
Image@Govs.Gov What's the point of elevating Banka to the starting role if we're going to limit him to these quick passes around the LOS? Nine passing plays called, no throws farther than two yards beyond the line. Let the kid off the leash a bit, let's see what he can do!

And after Jackson Zuercher ran off the field to a frenzied sideline, that's exactly what happened. This Richardson team isn't exactly flush with vertical threats - so far this season Hezekiah Thomas has been their best receiving threat at tight end. And offensive coordinator John Glassner knew it.

So Dex Banka faked the handoff to Malik Starcevich - who proceeded to deck the linebacker who thought he was gonna be coming up through the hole. His first read was Thomas running a post twenty yard downfield - when he flipped to sophomore Rio Good on the seam route, he was one-on-one with a safety. You'll take a 6'4" tight end one-on-one every time, and the Cardenaon was good for it. Banka stepped up in a clean pocket and ripped it, tearing out a chunk of grass with the torque from his foot. The ball was on an absolute rope, and Good had no problem boxing out the defender and catching it against his chest before getting tackled.

Banka wasn't quite the experience veteran who'd done this a few dozen times, and he was pumped. He pumped a fist in the air as the team ran downfield to meet Good and did an incredibly well choreographed handshake with the tight end right and promptly taking a shot to the end zone.

Not this end zone, clearly. The way he overthrew that thing, he might be hoping it lands in Ruwani Motor Speedway against Loyola-Istria. Maybe a bit too excited.

So after a missing hard, he hit a quick out route to Lukas Müller to get it close, then handed it off to Malik Starcevich to get the first down.

First and goal from the nine, and they went back to the screen game, and it was Jack Archer getting it. He cut upfield to the four, but froze up when he saw 300-pound corner Aydin Gomall coming at him, and that was that - he got absolutely lit up.

The guy who'd never played football before fumbled, badly, and Nikolas Patel had to dive on the ball to retain possession. Archer got an earful on the sideline - but it didn't end up mattering. Banka hit Rio Good for the second time on the drive, and this time it was for six points when the sophomore cooked that same Aydin Gomall out of the break for a wide open score.

Good and Banka embraced in the end zone, and they were back in it.

With things starting to look dicey, the Miners wanted to put this thing away. Running back Shaden Skousen took the first snap of the next drive and immedietely picked up fifteen yards on the carry, and Zuercher backed it up with a ten yard scramble of his own.

From there though, things stiffened up. Lyn Dairon blew up the first down run for a two yard loss, and senior defensive end Juneau Carter stuffed a second down run. Big Roger Jackson got a finger on Zuercher's third and forever pass, and the Governors got the ball back. At that point, they had all the momentum, and Dex Banka showed everyone exactly why he was the top recruit out of Banija. The true freshman completed all six of his passes on the drive, capping it with a seventeen yard toss to Hezekiah Thomas to take their first lead of the game at 24-20. With that toss, after starting the game 6/9 for just 35 yards, Banka completed ten of his last eleven passes for one hundred twenty one yards and a pair of scores.

It'd be Landon Rayne ending it - Ranoria's own top recruit and fellow true freshman ended a desperate BYU drive with a interception in the end zone to put this one in the bag.

The Governors were excited, Harrowitz was complimentary of his team after the winning effort, but is it time to start worrying?

As detailed earlier in the article, Richardson's now been taken to the brink by two teams with just one win, and they let a debutant Mantabolo Tech put them down on the first leg of the interdivisional slate. The win against Cold Hill is undoubtedly their best on the campaign, but it's the only one they can hang their hat on right now. Upcoming contests against Lebois Santura and the Everless again are going to be huge in determining how this squad stacks up as a contender this year.

Richardson's main cafeteria

Everyone knew where the football team sat. It wasn't that they were scaring anyone off, but they could be pretty cliquey, and with how much time they spent together, they weren't exaggerating when they called each other family.

"Jack, quit editing those stupid motorcycle videos, they're going to suspend you if you keep slacking in chemistry." Big right tackle Nikolas Patel whacked the top of his running back's hooded head to snap him out of it, "Aren't you posting old stuff anyway? Just use what you've got."

"Not how that works, Nik," Jack rubbed the back of his head, "Gotta be high quality stuff, I get paid well for it!"

"Coach said if you don't do well on you're next chem exam, you're not practicing. And brother I hate to break it to you, but you're already a walk on. You need to impress to get on scholarship."

"Heyy Jack," the rest of the table looked up to see Judith an Valerie approaching. Jack pretended he didn't hear anything, and Judith looked over to her friend and waved her arms.

"See, I told you, can barely get a word out of him!"

"Judith here says you're not doing so well in chemistry, just wanted to let you know I'd be happy to give you a hand, it can be pretty tough class."

Nothing. Nothing at all.

"Uh, Jack?" Nikolas Patel nudged him.

"Sure," he managed, finally looking up from his phone, "Sounds great."

Lyn Dairon had been silent throughout the whole exchange, but happily chimed in, "As a matter of fact, he's got a couple free hours before practice! Why don't you go ahead and take him off our hands?"

Patel grinned, "Don't worry bud, I'll clean up your plate," lifting Jack with one arm by the back of his hoodie and sliding his tray over.

Top Seven* South Newlandian Recruits:

This is somehow still happening.

#DNA QB Bruce Bennett (FR, Elephant Valley University)
(1x Champion, 2x MVP, Finals MVP)
Bennett is a lot like everyone’s Jack Hoy’s Football World Created Player. He’s got a rocket arm, and the size and speed to be a threat on the ground as well; and he’s proven he knows how to win in college, winning consecutive MVP awards and a championship as a senior. Despite all the upside, there are some very real risks attached as well. For one, he heavily relied on teammate Krish Couto, with a “fuck it, Couto is down there somewhere” attitude. His accuracy is spotty at best, but his biggest weakness is his pocket presence. He likes to bail from clean pockets or just stand there as he’s taken down, and good pass rushers have frequently given him fits. That’s despite a good O-Line in Paachang and the considerably lacking pass rushing in South Newlandian High School, so he’s certainly got a lot to learn – but the upside might make all of that worth it.

Since this evaluation, Bennett received zero offers to go abroad and play NSCF ball. Instead, he enrolled with the Red Elephants, playing whatever Div IV equivalent they’re doing now, where he also led EVU to a 14-48 preseason drubbing at the hands of NMU. Wants to transfer into the NSCF for his sophomore season; would definitely still need some time to develop, but what’s the worst that could happen?

#7 WR Wayne Knight (Elephant Valley Southwest High School)
(1x Champion)
The Southwest Golden Elephants horrifically fumbled their spot in the South Newlandian Championship by losing on the final MD to a pretty mediocre Beachside High team, but a 6-4 finish is still just about as good as this team’s been since Knight’s freshman year. Still, Knight had a good season as a wideout, also returning punts and kicks for Southwest. Perhaps his real value lies in that latter role, but he did also finish strong in total yards at wide receiver. He’s a smaller player, and was often used on deep shots, which he has shown a particular aptitude for dropping. He’s been better from the slot; runs good routes, works hard, and has good grades. Wants to become a doctor so he can treat the CTE he’s getting from getting pancaked whenever he tries to run block.

#6 DE Andrea Cortes (Ineton City High)
Ineton City had a stacked defense, but it only worked out on paper, as the team finished 5-5. Cortes has amazing physical tools, but definitely lacks a lot of technique, and will probably have to sit and learn her freshmen year. Grades are nothing to write home about. The upside is there, but this could also certainly end with her ringing up groceries. Still finished top five in sacks in three years straight, and also led the league in unnecessary roughness penalties three times (although this is called very softly in the Big Seven)

#5 ILB Gonzalo Chand (Ineton City High)
Chand was the leader for the Ineton City defense, always keeping a level head and directing the defense with exceptional talent and aptitude for reading plays. Ultimately, the physical tools aren’t as good as you’d hope for, but he puts in the work, he’s great academically, and has been an extremely sure-handed tackler. Led the league in being disappointed in Andrea Cortes four years straight.

#4 QB Chloe Dalla (Eastern Tip, Newport)
(1x MVP)
Dalla led Eastern Tip to an outstanding season in her final chance at a championship. The team from Newport didn’t lose to anyone except Harold Wilson and finished with a dominant 7-2-1 record, with Dalla leading the best offense in the league; they wrapped up the Conference with a game to spare. Unfortunately for them, the Golden Elephants fumbling cost them a home Stein Trophy game, which was instead played at a neutral site due to Paachang and Eastern Tip tying in the regular season. Eastern Tip proceeded to lose 23-27, so Dalla will leave High School untitled.
She still delivered a stellar season, winning the MVP after leading the Big 7 in touchdowns and handoffs resulting in touchdowns. If you believe in Scott Yadav, you believe this is a good thing. Anyhow, Dalla doesn’t have elite physical tools, but she will fight to the last, and also does well academically.

#3 RT Evelyn Richards (Mark Friednan High School, Ratzupalfu)
Mark Friednan had another bad season, but it wasn’t the fault of Richards, who did an excellent job protecting the blindside of their left-handed QB. Richards hardly allowed a sack all season, and was a rock-solid presence for Mark Friednan their entire career. She didn’t play a lot of LT, though, and has been a bit of a mixed back run blocking. She’s been making steady improvements, though, and is looking to continue to do so with a program that can coach her to reach her best. Has been excellent in the rain, too, and probably wants to go somewhere where she gets some outdoor games.

#2 TE Stella Raut (Elephant Valley Northern)
If Tight Ends weren’t so painfully dependent on the rest of the offense, Raut may have led Northern to a better record than 3-7. She’s been excellent in all facets of the game, even if her numbers don’t really show it. Raut has not only been an excellent pass catcher over the middle of the field, happy to stiff arm anyone in her path, but she’s also a great blocker and pass protector. South Newlandia have a history of producing great Tight Ends, and it seems like Raut will step into these footsteps.

#1 HB Ambra Gentile (Eastern Tip, Newport)
(1x OPOY)
Gentile set a new Big 7 record for rushing yards in a single season and for a career. She’s been incredibly shifty and has given defenses fits for each of her final two years, even if she suffered to same fate as Dalla to leave High School without a title. Paachang, incidentally, don’t have a lot of good seniors leaving, but some of their upcoming classes are pretty good. It also doesn’t look great on the resume of Bennett that Paachang immediately defended their title without him.
Back to Gentile; she’s also been great when Eastern Tip were passing; both as a checkdown option and blocking. She’s not honoured her name on the field, repeatedly showing her ability to just plain hurt somebodies’ feelings, but she’s reportedly been an excellent teammate. Her grades are fine enough, and if she manages to gain a couple pounds while keeping her elusiveness, she could be the best running back South Newlandia has ever seen (although this is not that high a bar)

Lava Prepare for Cadets in Monumental Clash

How does Staramara Tech win games? Play solid defense (usually led by the defensive line), run the ball, control the clock, and impose your will on the opposition. It helps when you have solid lines on both sides of the ball - and force four turnovers, like the way they handled business against Gerthos State. JJ Garret also had two scores, and the Lava rolled. Davis Pill had 181 yards and three touchdowns - mostly set up by the turnovers - as Staramara Tech rolled to 3-0 in cross-divisional play.

There is only one other team that has gone 3-0 in cross-divisional play - Silver Coast State College. In fact, the team from South Americanastan has yet to lose a single game this season, playing solid defense, running the ball, and doing what they've been doing since they entered the NSCF. They beat Felswyr State as well as the two teams from Drawkland - meaning that Staramara Tech will be the last team in line for them to sweep the Starlight Division.

The Starlight Division has always been a step ahead of the Equinox - and to lose that moniker to a team like Silver Coast would be a major downturn for the power structure of the Division. Sure, they could win the Conference Title afterwards - but Silver Coast sweeping the Starlight would mean that a new sheriff is in town.

It's going to be a backyard brawl between two teams that like to impose their will on the opposition. Expect brutal tackles, tough runs, and one of the shortest games of the NSCF season. If the Lava win, it'll mean they've put the first round-robin behind them, winning four games in a row. If they lose, it'll make the Starlight Division even more of a dogfight than it already is - and drive home the fact that the Horizon Conference may be up for grabs.

Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer can't win

Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer, Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer, Nova Calania - Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer has been erratic so far in NSCF, sometimes they win, sometimes they lose. This time, the Toucans received Trent State University at home in Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-mer. The game was originally scheduled for saturday afternoon but then we realised Nowa Kalanianska vs Green City was also scheduled in the afternoon, so the Toucans vs Trent State game was moved to the evening to avoid a schedule clash. The game was disappointing, Trent State took the lead in the 1st quarter but Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer was unable to catch up. The final score was 29-13 Trent State. Yep, I'm too disappointed to give the score in details. On week 7, the Toucans will travel to Niakursk, which is located in Imporia. Antoine Michon (knee) is out, Alex Laviolette (leg) is out and William Cousteau (ankle) is doubtful.

The Golden Kings’ two-week road trip continued, moving from the Utahn Theocratic Republic to the hopefully warmer environs of Cardenao. They faced the 5-0, division leading Alexandria University Swordsmen. Helmed by talented gunslinger Nick Singer and boasting an impressive defensive unit, the Swordsmen were the toughest proposition the Golden Kings had yet come up against, and few would have given them much of a chance at The Acropolis. But Isaiah Carter’s team had toughed out wins in recent weeks and were boosted by their strong showing against the Miners. They were doing so without the services of RG Khalil Rasheed (hand), DE Quashawn Granger (ankle), and K Jamila Scott (illness).

The opening drive looked like business as usual, with Singer and running back Mario LePlus leading the team down the field in a four and a half minute drive. Sai’f Collins made the first of his game high 13 tackles to stop LePlus at 3rd and 1, but the Swordsmen went for it in bold fashion, Singer faking the power run to draw in the safeties, then hitting Pule Tuigemala with a deep pass for 28 yards to move into the red zone. The Swordsmen quarterback capped the drive with a short strike to tight end Jón Úlfursson, who bullied his way into the end zone, shrugging off Kareem X who couldn’t bring him down even despite drawing a DPI flag. The home team were up and running with 7 points on the board.

The Golden Kings’ reply wasn’t quite so neat. A drawn out drive took over 7 minutes and 13 plays to advance 76 yards. Tyriq Vaughn completed just 1 of 3 passes, that just a 4 yard dump off to Rashad Muhammad, but the carries were spread around to five different rushers to make some progress before stalling at the 7. With Jamila Scott out with a stomach bug, the team turned to Hannah Foster, who made history as the first white woman ever to score a point for Mantabolo Tech as the former high school soccer player kicked over the 25 yard attempt.

The teams exchanged punts on their next drives but Rashad Coleman, who’s generally been very reliable this season, badly shanked his, meaning the Swordsmen began their drive in the Golden Kings’ half. Singer nearly threw away the initiative as he sprayed around the passes a little. He connected with Julius Whiteside for 22 yards, but when he tried to repeat the track Amarion Reeves stepped in for a pick. Unfortunately, Zaire Bailey had levelled Singer just after he released the ball, so the interception was waved off and Singer got a fresh set of downs in the red zone, completing at the third attempt to his favorite target, Deacon St. John, for a 13 yard score.

The Golden Kings’ attempt a response benefited greatly from two big DPI calls, on Orlando Jreerwood and Alton Benjamin, but even with being gifted 40 yards, they couldn’t convert on third down and had to settle for another short field goal. Another big completion to Tuigemela and the Swordsmen were moving into position for another score. With their offense starting to look no match for the hosts, the Golden Kings badly needed a break on defense – and got it, as Ade Okafor tipped a pass over the middle on a crossing route by Tuigemela, then dived backwards to reel in the pick before the ball hit the turf.

From midfield, Vaughn finally risked a deep ball, and Rashaun Holloway-James was away to the races for 54 yards as both safeties bit on the play-fake. After last week’s struggles, the 2 point attempt was more successful this time, running a reverse to L.J. Carter who then threw a quick pass to Chike Mensah. The Swordsmen punted on their final drive of the half, which meant the teams went in unexpectedly level, despite the hosts’ having outpassed the visitors by 124 yards to 58.

The Golden Kings came out strong in the second half. Receiving the ball, they drove down the field with Vaughn putting together passes for the first time, including a 26 yarder to Jelani Ogden to move into the red zone. He was 4 of 6 for 60 yards, with Muhammad and Zayvon Booker adding some carries and Carlos Mukuamo helping out with a defensive offside. Muhammad capped the drive with a belligerent 10 yard run, stiff-arming Jerome Peavey aside as he took the ball in for a shockingly unexpected lead. Foster added the PAT, and suddenly the game had taken on a very different complexion.

On the Swordsmen’s next drive, Sai’f Collins pushed Tanielu Tupua back to sack Singer, forcing them to punt away, but Vaughn was now getting over confident and his passes to Ogden and Holloway-James clanged incomplete, forcing Coleman to punt back. The Swordsmen picked up a first down as Qamiya Perrine caught a quick pass over the middle, but then Collins continued his storming day, this time overpowering Marcos Aoás Corrêa and getting to Singer again in the backfield to force another punt. A good punt and Krish Couto’s follow-up tackle pinned the Golden Kings at their 7, but Muhammad’s 31 yard rush gave them breathing room. Another set of downs produced nothing, though, as Jreerwood took down Booker in the backfield, Mac Maghnuis stopped Mensah short of the first down marker, and Carter again would not risk the 4th and 1, calling for the fourth consecutive punt of an offensively inept third quarter from both teams.

The Singer-St. John connection hadn’t quite been firing like it usually did thanks to the tight coverage by Tariq Abdullah, so when Singer saw St. John getting separation, he went back to his favorite target. Unfortunately he hadn’t seen Kareem X coming over. The free safety jumped the route for his 4th pick of the season and looked good to run back his 3rd pick-six until Parrine chased him down. It still gave the Golden Kings fantastic field position from which to begin their drive, and Muhammad, after being well stuffed by Mukuamo at the first go, smashed over at the second attempt from 2 yards out. Foster missed the kick this time, but she still made 3 of her 4 kicks on her debut for a very good showing from the debutant.

The Swordsmen now needed two scores, but shaken by throwing two interceptions (and a third cancelled by a penalty) Singer had to be more cautious. He did connect with St. John twice for 16 yards on the drive and Tuigemela for 17, but otherwise handed off to a selection of his running backs as LePlus, Perez, Woolley and Hollowell all took carries. The drive culminated in a 1 yard dive from Woolley, but had taken nearly half of the fourth quarter. The Golden Kings were able to take nearly 4 minutes off the clock before punting on their next drive, and once again they faced a one score game, limited minutes on the clock in the fourth. Singer, back to his cool best, completed passes to LePlus, Periman, and Tuigemela to move up to the edge of the red zone.

But the heroic comeback by the home crowd favorite was not to be. First Kevin Pisano drew a false start penalty; then LePlus’s carry went nowhere as the Ellis brothers combined for a big tackle. Woolley couldn’t reel in the pass. 3rd and 12 at the 23 yard line, 26 seconds on the clock, down by 6, Singer dropped back. Abdullah had St. John locked up in coverage, so he went to his second option, Tuigemela. The ball never reached him. Freshman dimeback Messiah Everett leaped into the lane and snagged the game killing interception.

It was a game where the box score didn’t quite tell the whole story. Neither quarterback was really on song, and though Rashad Muhammad rushed for 97 yards and 2 touchdowns, the Swordsmen’s run defense also made some big stops. The 3 turnovers were crucial, giving the Golden Kings field position their offense needed, and 65 penalty yards were also costly for the Swordsmen. With the win, the Golden Kings move to 4–2 in an increasingly competitive conference. They return home for the first time in three weeks for the next game, hosting the Wildcats.

Islamic University QB, Kohan Ersoy, in Quebec right after getting to the team hotel in Saguenay

Kohan Ersoy was walking around South Bend, shortly before curfew here in Quebec. It was a huge game- the leaders of each division meeting in Quebec for a titanic matchup, for a game that could quite possibly be a Celestia Conference championship game preview. The Islamic University were the defending division champs, and sitting at 4-1. No longer these suprising Busogan upstarts, the Islamic University had proven they had belonged at the highest levels. And furthermore- they were on a mission to prove that they were not only equal to, but superior to, the big 2 Banijan college football brands- Loyola-Istria and Northern Moravica University. A mission Julian Aigo had bought the team fully into- and that Kohan Ersoy had made personal.

He was a guy who had one hell of a roller coaster of a college career. Choosing not to attend the Banijan NSCF schools, going to the University of Bunyoro- but ended up rendering himself academically ineligible, and of course, a career almost ending in disgrace- until, of course, he had gotten that fateful phone call from Julian Aigo. He thought about that moment from time to time. He had almost been rendered a bust- instead, he was playing in the NSCF. And while last season, he was playing second fiddle to the superstar HB, he didn't mind all the attention on Okombo. Team first player- he thought his chance to be a legitimate superstar, in his own right, was long over. Just do enough to keep the offense moving and on schedule, make the necessary throws, but focus the offense around a killer ground game.

But then, the all-world HB, Joshua Okombo- who was the NSCF 31 Offensive Player of the Year, graduated. No superstar HB coming in to replace him. It was going to come down to Kohan Ersoy, on offense. This was a defensive team, built around elite talent on the other side of the football, like Julius Adhon at CB, or Zelotes Okoth as one of the most terrifying EDGE rushers in all of college football. But Ersoy, in particular, knew that there would be a time when his number would be called this season. The Islamic University had stunned the college football world by not being a pushover- by going a combined 8-0 last season against the Banijan and the Quebecois schools, en route to a conference title, #1 overall seed, and the Playoff Semifinals. Now, they wanted to shock the world again- but this time, by being NSCF champions.

To do that, to be the very best among the very best, you needed to be elite in all phases, in all areas. The defense could ball- that much was already known. And the offense could perform against the bad opponents. But the loss to Loyola, 24-17 at the Istria Lightning Yard, had stung- a lot. Now, losing at the Istria Lightning Yard was nothing to hang your head about- it was probably the toughest place to play in the Celestia Conference, of course. But it had pissed him off- he didn't play particularly well, and had some brutal turnovers. He had told himself- "this shit ain't happening again."

And for him, it wasn't. These big games, he put a lot of pressure himself- especially on the road. NMU game didn't go quite as well as he would have wished either. So despite a big win against USC a couple of weeks ago, they had been struggling this season- it wasn't a top two in the conference matchup, like this game at Saguenay was. So after calling his Dad, he was walking around campus- giving himself a quick tour of his surroundings. Saguenay was a beautiful campus- his first time here. The history oozed out of the place- and his solo walk, with shades on and a hood up, was a great time.

He even wore a black sweater so he wouldn't be recognized. He had walked by the 30m tall obelisk at the center of campus- the gigantic monument that was on every picture you ever saw on a brochure regarding Saguenay. He had spent like 10-15 minutes looking up at it. It was inspiring- a beautiful monument. Then, he had walked over to the Convocation Center- to look at the Golden Dome, the other insanely scenic portion of campus. Probably the most scenic campus he had ever been to- more scenic than the Islamic U, which was an urban university, to be sure.

The walk had relaxed him. Calmed his nerves. He was ready to sleep well, and lock in- big game time.

HC Julian Aigo, in the locker room, immediately after the Islamic University's stunning win over Saguenay

Julian Aigo walked into the locker room, and the players were roaring. "BU-SO-GA! BU-SOGA!" They were chanting, and they definitely had reason to be. Julian Aigo had done a masterful job of motivation. Spoke about how, despite their success last season and so far this season, they were disrespected by their peers in the Celestia Conference, and across college football at-large. About how most of CFB thought the Islamic University was a one hit wonder. About how most of CFB thought their loss at the Istria Lightning Yard meant that they were a crappy team in general- their ceiling was a bowl game, and there was no way they'd return to the playoffs- let alone make another playoff run.

It was a Lance Kabuye-esque speech- an 'us against the world' kind of mentality, that he had been working to instill inside his team ever since he landed in Lakiska. And oh boy- the players had responded quite well. They had a hell of a week of practice, and it showed itself on the field, especially in the second half. An undefeated team, on the road, the biggest game of the day in the conference- and the Islamic University were cruising.

"MEN!" He boomed to the locker room. They all stopped, looking at their head coach. "This was our best game of the season- one hell of a job!" The locker room was filled with thunderous applause, of the players who were wearing white. "We did what we needed to do in this one, especially in the second half. These types of games- this is the vision that I'm preaching!" He paused while they all shouted again. "We're all in this together boys- I love all of you! If we want to go to places we've never been, we need to preach excellence in all phases, all of the time. Ass kicking all of the time- on the practice field, in the classroom, and that will translate on the field on Saturdays."

He paused, and then continued. "I got some game balls to give out! I got two. My first one- someone bring me a stat sheet." One of the grad assistants ran up with a stat sheet. "First one- to our Quarterback, Kohan Ersoy!" Everybody clapped and chanted Ersoy's name, as the QB grinned. "We asked him to do more than he's basically ever done in the NSCF- and man, he delivered. 31/36, 398 yards, and 4 touchdowns- averaging nearly 11 yards per attempt. Most importantly- 0 turnovers. An absolutely, spectacular, out of this world performance from the best QB in the Celestia Conference!"

The players all clapped. "Hey- they told me the best QB in this conference played in Istria. Where does he play?"

"LAKISKA!" The players boomed back.

"And next, I'll give it to the defensive coordinator- Zebedee Yienya!" The players all chanted his name- Coach Z, as he was nicknamed, was a popular one amongst the Busogan players and staff. "The first half, of course, was rough- we trailed 21-20 at the break, in what looked like a shootout. But what was going to be a shootout, turned into our best W of the season, because of those halftime adjustments. Saguenay had 6 drives in the second half, let's see how they ended. Punt, FG, interception, Punt, Punt, Turnover on downs. If we are allowing just 3 points on the road against a team that is at the very top of the NSCF, well... That's a dangerous fucking team. Give it up to our defense!" Coach Z's name was chanted again.

"A big win today boys- we showed the Celestia, and the NSCF, that we are for real. The Islamic U is not a one hit wonder. We're not simply competitive- we are better than those fucking Moravican schools." The entire locker room cheered at that. "But as you all know- big wins beget more big games. Winning one game means nothing by itself- we've got to string wins together. We're going back to Lakiska next week, and need to lock in- Steicesve Strava is a more dangerous opponent than they are given credit for, and this has all of the potential to be one hell of a game."

The team cheered again, and then sang the fight song to close out. One hell of a win- but they were en route to the bigger prizes- maintaining their first place spot in the Savannah Division, with their sights set on a return trip to Busukuma.

In a narrow loss with both good and bad on display, of course it’s the bad that takes the headlines. Alexandria University’s perfect 5-0 start came to a disappointing end after a close contest between them and Mantabolo Tech, with the Golden Knights winning the game winning field goal after blocking Alexandria’s last second field goal attempt and bringing it back to the house for the final six points. Nick Singer had a slow first half, the star QB from Ranoria has been red hot this season but 7th yeah DC Tyson Adeyemi sent his unit out with a shutdown tactic. The scoring happened in the way that it did. Offensively, Deacon St. John and Ilman Kofi of Banija were the clear 1st and 2nd looks in this game and I would expect that trend to continue for the rest of the season. For the first time this year we saw AU’s defense look pretty toothless against a dynamic Mantabolo offense that was not afraid to take it to one of the best teams in college football. The destructive DE duo of Caden Larrazabal and Garran Cluff of Utah failed to make the impact they’ve become known for over the first five games of the season, though senior MLB Rashad Nijman did his best to pick up the slack and tackle whoever got behind them.

“Look, every loss is a bad loss when you’ve set your sights as high as we have, but these young men still played with a lot of heart and a lot of grit. The first half was probably the worst we’ve played this season but we put it behind us and came out the way I wanted in the second. We had a great run to start the season, now we got that first loss out of the way and get started on the real work.”

Fossas too much for Jays, UC-Prairie falls to 4-2

Woah Craig, we thought this year was different. We asked for one loss to, you know, even it out, but he's scarily close to fumbling the bag. Granted, Niakursk is a good team, but Craig Kelly just looked better than 9 points for the start of the season. The defense managed to step up again, only allowing 3 scores and stopping a 2-pt conversion attempt, but Craig Kelly just cannot for the life of him lead a football team against an opponent with a pulse.

On the offense, Atkinson got on the score sheet again with his 13th all-purpose touchdown 21 yards to his main guy Kabe Heaton, but not much else clicked as a unit for the Jays offense. We knew it was going to be a close game with how both teams were 4-1 heading into this matchup, but I would wager that not many were expecting a defensive game from both sides. UC-Prairie, coming in with one of the highest point differentials in NSCF, most certainly disappointed with under 10 points for the first time this season. The defense, which has been solid this season, relatively did their jobs, keeping it a one-score game for most of the game, only allowing 17, to allow the offense a chance, but that chance just never came. If they want to make any noise in the postseason, or even get there to begin with, Craig Kelly and the Jays HAVE to recover from this and pick up the slack from weeks 5 and 6.

They're offered a chance to do that with the last game of interdivisional play, coming @ Trent State and the Feathercaps for what seems like the fourth consecutive year on homecoming. Should the Jays lose that game, they're almost certainly frauds and Craig Kelly will have to be boarding his office door when the game ends. Should they win, it offers a step in the right direction and could be the start of a comeback for Kelly, who is in desperate need of any momentum right now. We'll just have to see what happens, and if Craig Kelly needs to install a security camera in the hallway.

====Scoring Summary====
First Quarter
NIA TD - 12:32 - QB Angelo Malone 10 yards to WR Gustavo Becker for a TOUCHDOWN. 2-PT IS GOOD. 0-8

Despite sitting at 4-2, frustration mounts at Northern Moravica as QB problems persist

HERZEGOVINA CITY, MORAVICA- Objectively, looking straight at the record, this has not been a bad start for the Northern Moravica Cougars. They sit at 4-2 after six games, even with their archrivals, Loyola-Istria, in the Savannah Division standings- ahead of them, actually, thanks to a head to head rivalry win. They also sit only one game behind the defending conference champs, the Islamic University of Busoga. They've got an explosive offensive talent, in Horace Horton- the do-it-all tight end who is more like a swiss army knife on offense, having all sorts of key carries as well. And throw in the fact that their next three games are at home, in the friendly confines of Mugisha II Memorial Stadium, in Herzegovina City, right on campus- well, you would think that energy around this team would be pretty high.

You would think- the operative verbiage.

But there's another story- the eye test. The rough start, especially on offense. Embattled senior quarterback, Wade Hurley, just repeatedly struggling against the best competition. Throwing 1 TD against 5 interceptions in his first two starts, both on the road, this season- scoring just 13 points in each game. Then, exploding against Loyola, looking like his high school self torching NMU's most hated rivals, putting up 40. Continuing the sizzling form at home, putting up 32 against Osenku. But then, the road games started up again- and so did the struggles.

They traveled to an absolutely desperate USC, where the Bleu et Blanc needed a win to salvage their season. And the Quebecois outfit got one- a smashmouth, 18-6 win over NMU, where they brought out all the worst traits in Wade Hurley- where the Ranorian QB simply looked lost. Lost 18-6, meaning no TDs, just two first half field goals. And then, traveling on the road as huge favorites, against Steicesve Strava, NMU kicked 4 FGs and only scored one TD- and only won because Strava shanked a game-winning 29 yard FG attempt as time expired. The offensive struggles continue- just one TD in their last two games, and that being a 4 yard rush by Heavenworth.

In 4 road games so far, Wade Hurley has thrown a combined singular touchdown pass. Singular. "While he's had some good performances at home, when the best teams come to town, he's likely to struggle- and that will bury this team." Said a Banijan TV analyst. Hurley is what he is at this point. Decision-making is both poor and slow, and his accuracy needs quite a bit of work. But there are times when he can turn it on, and let it rip. "The best defenses on their schedule remaining, are Saguenay, and The Islamic U. Now, of course, Wade Hurley has a hell of a schedule coming up- their next 6 games are in Banija, 5 of them at home- he doesn't have to get on another plane until a week 13 trip to Alexandria. But... the best defenses should, and will, give him fits regardless of where the games are played."

NMU is hoping that won't happen- that his home form will catch fire in the stretch run, as they chase a division title and a coveted trip to Busukuma. No matter how Horace Horton's star shines- whether it's elite route-running, or his electrifying carries out of the backfield, none of that matters if Wade Hurley can't hit the broad side of a barn everytime he wears white, or if he follows up an electric 20+ yard carry by Horace Horton by throwing a backbreaking interception.

Loyola-Istria: Hot and Cold defense the story of the season so far

ISTRIA, MORAVICA- Who the best quarterback in this conference is, is a question that is up for debate. Going into the season, this should have been Sebowa Jawara's role to claim- and he's certainly making his case, although Kohan Ersoy is making one hell of a case for himself as well. But what has Loyola's problem been under Dennis Zervos? Not their ability to score points- this is Loyola-Istria, scoring points in bunches is what they do. Across all eras, mind you. No- Loyola's problems have been maddening, yet far too entirely predictable, defensive collapses in the biggest games.

Defense performed pretty well in their first two games. Especially in Week 2, taking on the Islamic U at the Lightning Yard. Only allowing 17 points, against a team of that caliber- even at home, it's an impressive effort. But look at their 2 losses this year. Week 3, against NMU, against a Wade Hurley that had been absolutely ass all season long- they gave up 40. And against Saguenay, away from home- the Fighting Irish put up 35 on the Blue Thunder. "For some reason, in the big games, they get there- and the defense forgets how to play." Said a TV analyst. "It's a maddening problem if you are a Blue Thunder. They've got the individual talent on defense, with a number of future pros, including first round picks, on this defense. But the biggest spots, there's something about them.. Can't get the job done."

Which is why the pressure is ramping up on their Utahn defensive coordinator- Zervos might need to resort to another midseason firing to fix the defense. And here's the thing for these guys- the big games don't stop. What's to stop a suddenly resurgent USC from lighting up Loyola for 40 this week at the Lightning Yard? Or the Islamic U, with Ersoy hitting his stride, getting a similar amount of revenge in Week 9, when Loyola cross the water to Lakiska? "Dennis Zervos is an offensive coach, yes- but he knows, better than anybody, that defense is crtiical to winning championships. Despite having an electric O with Gwenderyn, he didn't win his RFL title with a worst-in-class defense."

The challenge of his time. Can he do it? We'll see what happens in Week 7, when he hosts USC- build enough momentum to stop USC in their tracks, and then, see how that carries on down the stretch.

Phoenixes lose last cross conference game, 26-19
By the Phoenixes Sports Desk, Vaelis Brightsong

Under the lights of the Skyhawks' Gridiron Park a disappointing defensive performance from the Phoenixes lets down what could have been an intense game against the Skyhawks. Ultimately decided by some big plays from the Skyhawks QB Brooklyn Beck as he somehow managed to lead the game in rushing yards, for both teams!

The first quarter started like many have this year with two defences slamming in to each other not willing to give up any yardage as the Phoenixes try to prove themselves in their rookie season, Nightingale picking up an early injury forcing them to be stretchered off after a heavy fall and then having not one but two lineman fall onto the outstretched leg, early reports are that they could be out for the remainder of the season unless the physios can work some magic. The loss of Nightingale proved too much for the Phoenix defence as time and again they were opened up by the Skyhawk offense, most notably allowing Beck to scramble for double figure yards at least once a drive. The first few drives for both teams coming to little of note until a monstrous 63 yard touchdown run from Beck, the Phoenix defence appearing lost as they followed all receivers to the far touchline and Beck flew down the near side uncontested. The extra point was good to take a 7-0 lead. The Phoenix offense fared better today that is has most weeks and especially last week, good to see a response after the shut out. Moving the ball down the field with a good mixture of run and pass plays, Stormheart managing to move the ball before the blitzing Skyhawks could reach him, though one or two flags were thrown for the Skyhawks lineman roughing the passer which really boosted the Phoenix field position. Coming into the redzone after the first big drive trying to finish off the first quarter in style and Stormheart fired out looking to find Hearthsong but instead found the Skyhawk safety Tyrell Davin.

The second quarter fared similarly to the first as the Phoenix defence continued to give up yards to their larger opposition, Beck calling the shots on the pitch and the Phoenix running like headless chicken after each play, passes flying over the heads of the defence for easy receptions and yards gained, no surprise the Phoenix found themselves 14-0 down so quickly. Receiving the kick off the Phoenix line up with a growing amount of disinterest as every kick goes out the back and true to character the Firehawk kicker Jensen sends the ball sailing over the Phoenix special teams heads, all players going through the motions as the ball sails over the endzone and hits the upright bouncing back onto the Phoenix 5 yard line. Cobaltheart calmly jogs over to collect the ball realising he is under no pressure as the teams start to clear the field he calmly walks down the middle of the field with only the officials watching him, once he reached the half way line a quick sprint found him into the endzone for a touchdown and pandemonium on the sidelines as the Skyhawks contest to no avail, a well blocked kick left the Phoenix trailing 14-6. The Skyhawks respond with aplomb, more yardage from Becks scrambles saw them gain enough territory to kick for a field goal just before half time to go in leading 17-6.

The Phoenix to receive in the third quarter and Jensen made sure this ball flew out the back so the Phoenix start on their 20. Stormheart leading the offense to the line only to be the victim of a heavy sack for a loss of 10 yards, a break in play as the physios check him over but allow him to carry on, another snap and another blitz as Stormheart is able to get the pass off this time, looking for Moonbeam down field as the Skyhawks safety leap to intercept but miss the pass leaving Moonbeam to collect and run down the field for a touchdown, a rare mistake from the Skyhawks defence but a glimmer of hope for the Phoenixes, 17-13. An intense exchange of turnovers ensued as both defences holding their opposite offences to the halfway line, neither Co-Ordinator willing to sacrifice the ball on the fourth down until the Skyhawks crept forward just enough to allow Jensen to take advantage of his kicking range and add another three 20-13.

The fourth quarter saw both defences rotate starters which allowed the Phoenix offence to gain some hard fought yards just enough to start kicking to close the deficit, Duskblade being tested as the Phoenixes requiring kicks around the 55 yard mark. 20-16 as Duskblade steps up and the wind doesn’t quite take the ball off course, though Duskblade wouldn’t be comfortable with how close to the upright that ball came. The Skyhawks fighting back, start driving back down the pitch getting up to their 40 yard line when all heads turn to the tunnel as out hobbles Nightingale on a pair of crutches that look a little too large for him, probably borrowed from the Skyhawks, he makes his way up to his teammates to shout encouragement from the side, clearly the intended effect as the defence galvanised holds the Skyhawks for a fourth down turnover, three quick unsuccessful plays leaves Duskblade with another long kick, accommodating for the wind this time around he kicks straight down the middle, 20-19, you’d be forgiven for thinking the Phoenixes could maybe make something of this game as the Skyhawk starters rotate back in and punish the Phoenix defence starting a drive that culminates in a touchdown and another loss for the Phoenix, the positive to finish is the that Phoenixes hold the Skyhawks from making the extra 2 points, 26-19.

A disappointing performance from the Phoenix defence as they concede a record amount so far in this competition, after such a strong start defensive co-ordinator Thalindra Nightfall must be feeling the heat, though the defence has let past only 114 points, the seventh lowest across all conferences. Back on home soil next week and back in the division against the Dinosaurs NTN Palæontological-Centred Research University the Phoenixes will have a score to settle and be looking at taking that second place spot. Stay tuned, as this team is ready to soar once more.

When Zayvon Booker was stuffed on a 4th down conversion attempt with 7 minutes to play in the 2nd quarter and the score tied at 7–7, there were few indications that a one-sided rout was forthcoming. The Golden Kings only really put the screws to their disinterested visitors from the imaginatively named Utah State University midway through the 3rd quarter, when they scored 17 points in two and a half minutes.

The Golden Kings were welcoming back several big players they’d been missing through injury or illness, most notably tight end Mikkel Sanders, defensive tackle Khamari White, and placekicker Jamila Scott; Khalil Rasheed remained out with an ongoing hand injury; in his place, Deshawn Allen twice false started on a day when both teams racked up major penalties. Scott got a chance to pick up where she’d left off from a mostly faultless kicking display in the first half of the season early on after Thabiso Mthembu’s strip-sack was recovered by Quashawn Granger to put the Golden Kings into field goal range, but Scott’s kick drifted wide left, her first miss from the field this season. It was a disappointing return, especially after Hannah Foster looked capable enough as her replacement in the last game.

Rashaun Holloway-James is finishing his Mantabolo Tech career in style, reeling in his 8th touchdown pass of the season to finally get the Golden Kings on the scoreboard as Tyriq Vaughn completed a 17 yard pass. Tariq Abdullah then gave up two big DPI calls; ironically, in a game in which he’d later snag his first interception of the season, this was significantly his worst performance all year. The cornerback’s costly errors let the Wildcats move into the red zone and they walked in a touchdown on a short rush two plays later. After turning the ball over on downs, the Golden Kings got the ball back with 4 minutes and change and drove downfield, Rashad Muhammad going over from 1 yard out with 2 seconds on the clock thanks to some good clock management from Vaughn.

The second half saw Sanders collect his first catch in more than a month, and Scott atone for her earlier error with a 35 yard field goal to extend the lead to double figures. A huge stop by J’riq Bennett-Patterson meant the ensuing reply went nowhere and the Wildcats had to punt away – or punt, anyway. DaQuan Bradley collected the ball at the 13 yard line, shrugged off the gunner, and wasn’t touched by another Wildcat for 87 yards, when he was unnecessarily brought down by a cheap shot in the end zone. No matter, he’d already run back the score for another big special teams play.

The Golden Kings’ five non-offensive touchdowns this season have definitely helped spark some of their biggest movements, and Bradley’s punt return TD was a huge momentum shifter. Another momentum shifter was not long in coming – in fact, it was just 6 seconds’ game time. Ade Okafor got to the running back isolated from his blockers and jarred the ball loose, and Zyon Banks was swiftly onto the recovery. Two plays later, Sanders was officially back, celebrating his return with a touchdown catch as Vaughn connected with him underneath and he wove his way upfield through a tired and disenchanted Wildcats defense all the way into the end zone. From 14–7 up, the Golden Kings had swung to 31–7 in under 3 minutes.

The fourth and fifth sacks the Golden Kings recorded on the Wildcats meant their next drive went nowhere, and a big PI call moved the Golden Kings to the 1 yard line, whence Zayvon Booker punched his first ticket of the season. Scott kicked her fifth extra point of the day and added a short 24 yard field goal after Abdullah’s pick gave the Golden Kings the ball, again; they ran nearly seven minutes off the clock before taking the final points of the game. With four minutes to play and down 34, the Wildcats didn’t even bother on their final drive, bringing in reserves and having their third-string running back run up the gut to wind down time.

It was an utterly comprehensive win that perhaps didn’t tell the Golden Kings all that much, but it did at least ensure that whatever happens, they will finish with at least a .500 record in regular season play, not bad for their first year in NSCF. It remains really tough to see them making the playoffs given the demanding final slate of games against the two Ranorian powerhouses, Cold Hill and Richardson, but the season has definitely already gone better than dreaded.

Because of that, it now looks likely that Mantabolo Tech may return to NSCF 33. If they do so, they will be missing a number of big pieces, so this may be the first year in which they look to the international recruiting portal.

Position breakdown

Quarterback: Need LOW

Tyriq Vaughn has been a very competent game manager this season, throwing 14 touchdowns to just 3 interceptions. He’s been very conservative, but that’s Isaiah Carter’s call, and he hasn’t shown anything with his legs. Still, it seems likely he will retain his spot, and with two more years to play, there’s not a big need at this position, especially with several freshmen already on the roster. Jamarion Blake will be leaving at the end of the season so there may be an attempt to bring in an experienced back-up, but it’s difficult to believe many strong QBs would risk a 2-seat at Mantabolo Tech after just one season in NSCF.

Running back: Need MODERATE

Rashad Muhammad will leave a 6’2”, 240 pound hole when he leaves at the end of the season. The downside of his powerful running game is that there hasn’t been much cause to give anyone else touches, and that means Coach Carter really doesn’t know what he has in terms of running back depth after Muhammad leaves. Zayvon Booker got a season-high 12 carries against the Wildcats but half of these were in garbage time. LaMarcus Freeman and L.J. Carter have shown flashes of explosive speed but neither is a power back. Jay’Vion Scott can handle short yardage duties but if Mantabolo Tech go looking for a new back, they will want someone with size, and freshman recruits like that are rare so they look for someone in the transfer portal.

Wide receiver: Need HIGH

Similar to running back, the position with the obvious standout senior means next season will leave big shoes to fill for Mantabolo Tech. Rashaun Holloway-James leads receivers in every category for the Golden Kings, and neither Jelani Ogden nor Quindarius Hale have been anywhere near as reliable. The mostly likely targets for recruitment will be receivers with size to operate in the slot while Ogden and Hale move out wide next season. This position is probably MTech’s biggest need position on offense for recruitment next season.

Tight end: Need LOW

Two of three members of the strong tight end corps will be leaving at the end of the season, but Mikkel Sanders, who is back to fitness, will stick around as the #1 option, and Demarcus Shields and Savion Thompson have looked worthy of getting more snaps, both as targets and blockers, in their limited showings this season. The Golden Kings have good depth at the position and there’s not a strong need to go looking for cast-offs in the transfer portal.

Offensive Line: Need LOW

At the end of the season the Golden Kings will lose two big pieces: OT Nasir Muhammad and OG Khalil Rasheed. But both Tāne Maleko and Björn Falkenrath have looked really good. Deshawn Allen and DeVaughn Washington look like they can step up to start regularly; Isaiah Carter Jr. remains more of a project. If an outstanding tackle becomes available Mantabolo Tech will certainly show interest but in general their stocks in O-line prospects run pretty deep. On the other hand, freshman tackle Elijah Johnson has made noises about a lack of playing time and may be leaving in the transfer portal.

Defensive Line: Need LOW

The Golden Kings have three impressive juniors, one of whom is starting and two seeing regular snaps, so the loss of seniors Sincerity Matombo and Anwar Kumalo at the end of the season shouldn’t sting too badly. The D-line has been hit by more injuries than any other unit this season. That means some guys who started the season low on the depth chart, like Kamau Nash and Zubari Nkosi, have got some playing time, but on the other hand it makes it difficult to assess with what strength they’ll return next season. They would love to pick an outstanding edge rusher but if Tyrell Davis Jr. is fit next season then nose tackle should be covered.

Linebackers: Need HIGH

Freshman Sai’f Collins has emerged as one of the team’s most impactful players this season. He leads the team in sacks and tackles for loss, is 2nd in passes defended, and 3rd in overall tackles, with an interception to boot. Paired with sophomore Jaidon Blackwell Jr., he looks to offer the team years of good play to come. The trouble is depth. Ade Okafor and D’Angelo Ellis leave at the end of the season, Kwame Gillmore has only really featured on special teams, and neither Rakeem Bellamy III or D.J. Lee have looked great pass rushers (though each recorded a sack against the Wildcats). What the team needs is a good edge rusher to pair with Collins and allow Blackwell Jr. his coverage role. For that they may have to go looking in the transfer portal.

Defensive backs: Need MODERATE

Two big losses will come at the end of the season with cornerback Tariq Abdullah and strong safety Zaire Bailey set to depart. Zyon Banks and Thabiso Mthembu have looked up to the job of replacing them, and Messiah Everett has shown some sparks too. The main concern will be strength in depth, with a big drop-off from the #1 options on the depth chart. With Kareem X playing so many snaps on defense he’s led the team in tackles and interceptions but it’s taken its toll physically and a good back-up safety is a need.

Special teams: Need MODERATE

Touching a story as Jamila Scott and Hannah Foster’s history-making is, neither has the leg strength for long field goals nor has yet been tested on crucial kicks. There’s another reason why the international portal is an attractive proposition for Mantabolo Tech. Soccer enjoys little popularity in New Umoja and rugby is a minority sport, but they are very popular overseas and there are innumerable kids with strong kicking legs who could be good pick-ups. The punting and long snapping units will be back next season.

Overall priorities:
  • Wide receiver
  • Edge rusher
  • Placekicker

The State of Chromatik Football
Part 1: Alpha Conference
Part 2: Beta Conference
Part 3: Delta Conference

Chromatik High School Gridiron - Season Fourteen
Part 4: Gamma Conference

Predicted Order of Finish:
1. Franscesca Larriet-Cortes High School Martyrs
2. South Sanar High School Armadillos
3. Chromatik Army High School Recruits
4. City of Lorentine High School Wizards
5. North Sanar High School Riflemen
6. Cheonju Korean Institute Red Devils

Matchday 1
Franscesca Larriet-Cortes High School 26–24 Chromatik Army High School
North Sanar High School 23–30 City of Lorentine High School
South Sanar High School 34–22 Cheonju Korean Institute

This is going to be the tightest conference by far - and the first matchday does not disappoint. Darin Piltoffer finds Inga Edlund in the back corner of the end zone to complete a comeback over the Recruits, despite a three-touchdown day from one Jair Lleyamana - two through the air and one on the ground. The Wizards' Pietr Diovett scores three touchdowns from Ariana Sadow for City of Lorentine to edge by North Sanar, and Aina Wirtanen's second-half outburst is enough to send the Armadillos over the Red Devils.

Matchday 2
Chromatik Army High School 37–21 Cheonju Korean Institute
City of Lorentine High School 23–12 South Sanar High School
Franscesca Larriet-Cortes High School 23–3 North Sanar High School

The Wizards pull off a nominal upset over the Armadillos as Wirtanen is held to just 149 yards through the air, Nero Johnston leading the defense with eighteen tackles, three sacks, and a forced fumble. Chromatik Army High School's Jair Lleyamana has a prolific day on the ground with 219 yards and three scores, and the Martyrs hold the Riflemen to 119 yards of total offense as Ray Donnovan does the rest with 145 yards on the ground. The Martyrs and the Wizards are the class of the Conference - for the moment.

Matchday 3
North Sanar High School 31–13 Chromatik Army High School
South Sanar High School 6–12 Franscesca Larriet-Cortes High School
Cheonju Korean Institute 34–14 City of Lorentine High School

A pair of upset wins here - Fardhe Rosenqvist putting together his best game of the year in a 318 yard, four-touchdown affair as the Riflemen take down the Recruits and Jair Lleyamana, who was held to just 81 yards rushing. Albin Berglund had a field day for North Sanar with eight tackles, a forced fumble, and an interception. The Red Devils pick up their first win of the year, hounding Ariana Sadow to four turnovers and getting a solid game from Kirsi-Marja Sibelius, who find Sisko Haavisto and Helena Salonen for a score each. The Martyrs keep on rolling in a defensive slugfest with the Armadillos, getting four field goals from beyond forty yards.

Matchday 4
Chromatik Army High School 19–6 City of Lorentine High School
Franscesca Larriet-Cortes High School 16–27 Cheonju Korean Institute
North Sanar High School 24–13 South Sanar High School

Two games, two outstanding outings by Kirsi-Marja Sibelius, who goes 18-of-21 for 218 yards and three scores as the Red Devils hand the Martyrs their first loss of the season. Lleyamana and the Recruits bounce back by controlling the clock for 42:13 as Chromatik Army hands City of Lorentine their second loss of the season, and the Sanar derby is won by the Riflemen, who mire the Armadillos to last place - something that nobody saw coming.

Matchday 5
South Sanar High School 20–16 Chromatik Army High School
Cheonju Korean Institute 29–10 North Sanar High School
City of Lorentine High School 3–14 Franscesca Larriet-Cortes High School

Three in a row for the Red Devils, whose spread offense is gaining steam as Kirsi-Marja Sibelius continues to gain confidence - their latest victim being North Sanar. South Sanar scores fourteen points in the Fourth Quarter - Aina Wirtanen putting together two masterful drives - to take down the Recruits, and the Martyrs' defense recovers from their previous game by shutting down the Wizards to a single field goal, never letting them into the Red Zone.

Matchday 6
Chromatik Army High School 28–10 Franscesca Larriet-Cortes High School
City of Lorentine High School 15–0 North Sanar High School
Cheonju Korean Institute 39–34 South Sanar High School

Will anyone stop the Red Devils? Putting together their fourth win in a row - and this one despite conceding thirty-four points - Cheonju Korean Institute and Quarterback Kirsi-Marja Sibelius are playing at an elite level. Not many teams have the personnel to run the spread in high school, but the Red Devils are doing it - and nobody can stop them, for the moment. The Wizards return to their winning ways by putting a shutout on the Riflemen, holding them to 201 yards of total offense, and Jair Lleyamana runs for 219 yards and four scores to dominate the Martyrs.

Matchday 7
Cheonju Korean Institute 51–28 Chromatik Army High School
South Sanar High School 9–17 City of Lorentine High School
North Sanar High School 10–17 Franscesca Larriet-Cortes High School

Six touchdowns. Kirsi-Marja Sibelius goes off - and Jair Lleyamana can't keep up. Is it possible that Cheonju Korean Institute was just getting things going? City of Lorentine's defense is starting to really turn things up - seeing the Armadillos struggle is interesting - and the Martyrs keep on winning, Ray Donnovan getting two scores on the ground despite Darin Piltoffer struggling.

Matchday 8
Chromatik Army High School 17–20 North Sanar High School
Franscesca Larriet-Cortes High School 49–20 South Sanar High School
City of Lorentine High School 19–20 Cheonju Korean Institute

A thirty-seven yard touchdown pass to Sisko Haavisto with twelve seconds remaining leads the Red Devils to their sixth straight win; Darin Piltoffer recovers with a five-touchdown game as the Armadillos fold, and the Riflemen hold Jair Lleyamana to 81 yards on 22 carries as they try to get back to .500 by the end of the year.

Matchday 9
City of Lorentine High School 16–3 Chromatik Army High School
Cheonju Korean Institute 29–17 Franscesca Larriet-Cortes High School
South Sanar High School 22–10 North Sanar High School

281 yards, three touchdowns, no turnovers. Kirsi-Marja Sibellus is for real, and Cheonju Korean Institute is in the Conference Championship Game. The Wizards have a chance to make it in if the Martyrs trip up one more time - they have a formidable defense led by one Nero Johnston. As for South Sanar, they'll have to be content with just dragging down North Sanar with them to irrelevancy.

Matchday 10
Chromatik Army High School 35–0 South Sanar High School
North Sanar High School 14–27 Cheonju Korean Institute
Franscesca Larriet-Cortes High School 17–7 City of Lorentine High Schoo

Despite running for over 1,392 yards this season, Chromatik Army High School won't make the playoffs. At least they go off on a high note. The Martyrs clinch their Championship Game spot by having Darin Piltoffer score the touchdown in the Fourth to pull away from the Wizards, and Cheonju Korean Institute wins their eighth game in a row, Sibellus getting three more scores to cap off a run where she's absolutely gone off.

Gamma Conference Pld W L PF PA PD
1 Cheonju Korean Institute 10 8 2 299 223 +76 Conference Championship Game
2 Franscesca Larriet-Cortes High School 10 7 3 201 157 +44 Conference Championship Game

3 City of Lorentine High School 10 5 5 150 151 −1
4 Chromatik Army High School 10 4 6 220 201 +19
5 South Sanar High School 10 3 7 170 247 −77
6 North Sanar High School 10 3 7 145 206 −61
What a story - eight wins in a row for Kirsi-Marja Sibellus and the Red Devils. The Martyrs recover enough to make it here, and the rest of the conference, though competitive, falls hort.
Lava Outlast Silver Coast State College, Complete Equinox Sweep

Facing a team that hadn't lost all season, a sold-out crowd in Staramara knew that they would be watching a stellar matchup as Silver Coast State College and Starmara Tech University clashed. Combined, they ran for over 319 yards and four touchdowns, and threw only fifteen times. Both Davis Pill and Tommy Lugg were a lot to take down, and despite the fact that both teams have very good defenses, the lines were simply moving the opposition. Silver Coast scored first - in the Second Quarter - but the Lava answered; the score was tied at ten heading into halftime, and when the Cadets doubled up on the touchdown midway through the Third Quarter, Starmara Tech had work to do.

All the counters had softened up the defense, though, so when JJ Garret decided to finally uncork the play-action in the Fourth Quarter with the score tied at twenty, the Cadets bit. Laak Gyles is both tall as a reed and the fastest guy on the team - he just is mostly used as a yards-after-catch guy, and the Lava don't like to throw deep. This time, he feinted as if he was going to do a block, and with JJ doing the perfect fake handoff, ran a stop-and-go that would make Firehawks legend Alessandra Mio weep. Ash Long was nowhere to be found, and the safety cover wasn't there because they were expecting run. Gyles walked in, untouched, on a sixty-two yard pass that would be both the longest pass in JJ's career and the longest pass play in Lava history.

The Lava defense held, and Starmara Tech High School became the only school to sweep the other division in the Horizon Conference. In fact, they have a one-game lead on Sadeg State and Felswyr State with the second round-robin coming up, giving them a golden opportunity to have a chance to repeat as Horizon Conference champions.

"We've been saving it all day," commented Offensive Coordinator Teisha Wagoner, "We don't throw it often, but it's good to be able to do it in a pinch. JJ knows how to sell the fake, Laak is a fast kid, and it's good to be multi-faceted."

Staramara Tech heads to Cavsar, where they will try to avoid being swept. Then, a trip to Sadeg awaits, with a home bout against the Firehawks to finish conference play. If they keep playing like they have been since the loss to the Firehawks, they may have that chance to repeat as Horizon Conference champions.

Brooklyn Beck (S4:E4)

Postby Drawkland » Mon Dec 09, 2024 11:02 pm

"The Surprise Start"

“Divine as my witness, I’ve never seen anything like this.”

“It’s truly remarkable.”

“A medical miracle.”

“That’s great. I’m still not starting her.”

“We support caution by all means, but honestly she could probably play-”

“Not gonna risk it.”

It had been two and a half weeks since Brooklyn Beck experienced a high ankle sprain against Silver Coast State College. It sent Sadeg State into a truly horrific 7 quarters of football, lasting from the second half against the Cadets to the first quarter against PCRU. Thankfully, novatim quarterback Reed Harper and the Skyhawk running back room managed to start putting things together against the Palæontological-Centred Research University of Natanians and Nosts. With a little help from the defense and special teams, Sadeg State finally got back into the win column to prevent a 3-game skid.

There was then one game left in the Equinox slate before having to head to Felswyr for what could be the most important game of the campaign. Sadeg State would be playing at home against Lithrelir University. Lithrelir wasn’t exactly scary on paper, but this was a squad that had a chance at the Equinox division title until Silver Coast State rattled off six straight wins to start the season. Would the Skyhawks get caught looking ahead to next week’s Felswyr State matchup?

“I feel great, coach.” Brooklyn arrived on campus early Monday morning to confront head coach Brand Manlio. It was the asscrack of dawn, before some of the staff had even arrived at the practice facility, but Brooklyn looked like she’d been up for an hour already. Maybe she had. “I think I should get reps this week.”

“Absolutely not.” Brand Manlio didn’t even make eye contact with Brooklyn as he flipped through some notes on his tablet. “We can’t risk re-aggravating the injury. Your health comes first.”

“I heard the doctors yesterday. You did too.” Brooklyn stepped closer. “My recovery is way ahead of schedule. I’ve followed the PT routine, I’ve taken the treatment, I barely notice any pain. If not now, then when?”

“Next week against Felswyr State. That was always the deal, unless your recovery was delayed.” Manlio shook his head. “I’m not changing my mind now.”

“But I’m ready to go now!” Brooklyn insisted. “What is sitting me for another week really going to do? Do you really want me to go into the biggest game of the season while still trying to knock off some rust?”

“Do you really want to risk playing four quarters against the second-best scoring defense in the conference right before the ‘biggest game of the season?’” Manlio countered. “Your health is the number one priority.”

“So what?” Brooklyn scoffed. “I could get blown up on the first snap of the FSU game and be out for the season. Hypotheticals are dumb. I want to play.”

“You can’t always get what you want.”

“At least let me practice this week,” Brooklyn pleaded. “You don’t need to commit. Make a game time decision or something on Saturday. I just can’t sit out for another week. I’m at my best when I’m explosive, and I can’t be explosive if I’m still trying to feel everything out.”

“If you’re just gonna stand here and whine, Beck, you can head back home for the day.” Manlio shot a glare at Brooklyn, his first eye contact of the conversation.

“Fine.” Brooklyn crossed her arms. “I’ll go ahead and drive home. And I figure I’ll stay there for the next month. My health is the number one priority, after all.”

“What was that?” Manlio asked slowly, with a warning tone. Brooklyn almost gleefully ignored it.

“I mean, I wouldn’t want to risk losing part of next season, or worse. Especially not for a pointless exhibition tournament.” Brooklyn put on a disgustingly fake innocent expression. “These games don’t mean anything, right? So who cares if I just … skip them all?”

“Is this … a threat?” Manlio sounded almost incredulous. “You better stop before you say something you regret, Beck.”

“Threat? I’d do no such thing.” Brooklyn cocked her head. “I’m just looking out for myself, and my own health.”

“Thirty seconds ago you were demanding that I disregard the best choice for your health.”

“Well, I’ve truly seen the error of my ways.” Brooklyn sighed. She was putting on a show, insultingly so. It was a little over-the-top, but it was the only way she could keep her voice from wavering. “I mean, you are the expert. A great football mind, and I’m sure you relish the opportunity to play two Chromatik schools with a novatim quarterback under center. I’m sure the AD and the media would love to hear about that.”

“Excuse me?!” Manlio exclaimed, but Brooklyn wasn’t done.

“I mean, your job security is great right now, or so I’ve heard. I don’t know how good my sources are, though. I just figured that if Donnie Hollis was okay with his football coach going 6-4 or 5-5 in the Horizon Conference for nearly a decade straight, then that coach must be basically invincible. I’m sure there’s no shortage of patience around the office.”

“One more word out of you and your scholarship is gone.” Manlio stood up from his seat, a vein nearly popping out of his forehead. “If you think you can walk in here and blackmail like your fa-ah, ahem, like some kind of extortionist, you’re dead wrong.”

“Bullshit.” Brooklyn shot back. She was clenching her fists to keep her composure, barely holding on. “First you run Chapman out of town, then you cut me from the team? Yeah, try convincing anybody that you have any control over the locker room at that point. I know Coach Denton would love to have my full attention in the fall and spring anyway.”

“All it would take is one conversation with Hollis,” Manlio narrowed his eyes. “He already didn’t want you here. It wouldn’t take a lot to convince him that you’re a cancer to the program. Denton would be forced to revoke your baseball scholarship, too. You’d be cleaning out your locker 48 hours from now.”

“All it would take is one conversation with Scott Linhart.” Brooklyn’s eyes flashed. “You think I don’t know people? You think the Gladiators would say no to my skillset, with that clown they’ve got starting under center right now? I’d be picking out apartments in Cavsar before the week is over.”

“You wouldn’t. Couldn’t.” Manlio sputtered. His words were resolute, but his voice was anything but. He seemed genuinely taken aback.

“Would. Could. Will.” Brooklyn verbally pounced on Manlio like it was a seam in the defense. “You lose Brooklyn Beck to Cavsar, you’ll be begging for coordinator jobs next fall. It’s almost a guarantee, and yet it’s so easily preventable. Just let me fucking start.”

Brand Manlio was speechless. He stood on the spot, fuming, staring lasers right into Brooklyn … but she didn’t back down. She stared back, fire in her eyes, jaw set and teeth grinding.

For an uncomfortably long moment, the stalemate continued. Whose bluff would be called?

“Fine.” Manlio hissed, barely audible. “You’ll play against Lithrelir. If you go down, though, your ankle won’t be the only thing making your life hell.”

“Your terms are acceptable.” Brooklyn jutted her chin forward, allowing the faintest hint of a smirk to play on her lips. Before her coach could respond, she turned about face on the very same ankle she’d injured. She didn’t flinch, and strode evenly back towards the locker room.

A couple minutes later, Brooklyn was safely inside her little closet in the home locker room. Then, and only then, did she allow herself to exhale. The entire process had been an ordeal, and she could feel herself unwinding as her heart rate gradually began to slow.

“Is this the only way to get shit done around here?” Brooklyn asked to the empty closet. The gray brick walls offered no answer.

It was a surprise to most when Brooklyn was announced the starter the morning of the Lithrelir game. Some noted that she’d been taking live reps in practice, but most assumed that was just part of the injury recovery process. Surely Brand Manlio wasn’t foolish enough to throw Brooklyn back in after only three weeks of recovery?

Apparently he was. Fans and haters watched with equal intent as Brooklyn took the field at Skyhawks Gridiron Park. Would she have any maneuverability in the pocket? Would she get any designed runs? Would her footwork affect her passing ability? Would she be able to scramble downfield if needed? Any weakness would be obvious, any vulnerability would be exploited by a hungry Phoenix defense. Skyhawk fans just hoped that if her mobility wasn’t there, her passing would still be effective enough.

Luckily for Manlio, Brooklyn woke up on Saturday morning feeling more than dangerous. Oh ye of little faith … worried about the passing? Fearing the worst for the ground game? Maybe it was Brooklyn, maybe it was just the Lithrelir defense, but the questions were answered so resoundingly that little doubt remained for next week.

The first few drives were a little spotty for both teams, but Brooklyn still had some solid plays. The rust was obvious, as she missed the timing on a few throws for incompletions, leading to stalled drives, but then she cooked up a little magic.

From her own 37 yard line, Brooklyn dropped back to pass. The play featured a hook on the left sideline, a drag running across that way, plus a post and a deep slant. Almost everybody was running towards the left side, and it led to every receiver getting blanketed. For a moment, it looked like the Phoenix D-line was about to get a coverage sack, but then Brooklyn flew. With one fake pump to freeze a defender, she sprang from the pocket and dashed to the right. With all the defense and offense on the far side, the near side was so empty there might’ve been a tumbleweed rolling down the hash. Brooklyn cut upfield, a couple wily State receivers got blocks on their defenders, and eventually there was just one white shirt between Brooklyn and paydirt. They were set to meet right inside the 10 yard line, but Brooklyn shuffled to her right, pushing off her right foot no less, and slid around the Phoenix defender to coast into the end zone untouched. It was a 63-yard scramble to put Sadeg State on the board, and the Skyhawks never looked back.

It wasn’t exactly a blowout. A couple gaffes by Sadeg State on defense and special teams let Lithrelir back into the game, though a few key turnovers by the same Skyhawk defensive unit ensured that State never lost the lead. Brooklyn was still a little inconsistent passing, missing on a few key third downs, but she was tearing it up on the ground. She managed a run of double digit yardage on every Skyhawk position, to the tune of over 150 rushing yards by the time the final whistle blew.

26-19 was the final score, with Brooklyn collecting two touchdowns (the long rushing TD and a pass to Kastor Armati) on the day. More importantly, she looked really healthy, much better than anybody expected. She would have to be better in the pass game if they were going to have a good chance against Felswyr State, but at least she looked good running on the ankle.

It wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows, though. Despite the win, despite the good showing, Brand Manlio had nothing but a scowl on his face all game. When Brooklyn went home to her apartment that night, she could feel a pit deep in her gut. She’d gotten what she wanted: time to build back up before facing the Firehawks, and having fun making great plays on the field. She’d won … but at what cost?

The cross divisional section of the schedule was finally complete and both the Raiders and Rockets were feeling fairly confident about their chances of making it to the conference title game and eventually winning it with the way they had been able to handle the Legends division of the conference. Tech was designing whole new playbook just to try and keep things fresh against the competition, instituting a lot of jet sweeps, some halfback swings, and then sprinkling in a variety of halfback, tight end, and wide receiver screens. The fact that they did this in the lead up to a game that was on the road while already having one of the most dominant offenses in the entire NSCF just spoke to the confidence that the Raiders had that they were simply superior than anything that the Legends division could hope to offer in comparison. Meanwhile the Rockets at Raynor were still confident and were still finding ways to win games, yet with a slew of minor injuries to the wide outs and some of the offensive line, it was starting to become hard for the sheer will and skill of Odin behind center to take them to victory.

The Raiders went against the Athiests of Thereisnogodistan and despite running a whole new offensive playbook against the Community College, they were able to rip them to shreds in a way that even the Rockets had not been able to despite their massive amount of talent at the skill positions. The Raiders have been playing at a level above everyone else in the conference and they will have to wonder how they were ever bested by Bowerstone in Anthor in week two when they reflect on how well this team has performed. Noah Nygård finished the game with nearly three hundred yards and four touchdown throws, seemingly not being able to miss at all in the game, completing thirty of thirty-three passes and looking immaculate. It helps that his offensive line has not been plagued by injuries unlike what some other schools have been going through and that Thorbjørn Skår's running ability has to keep teams honest and not merely fall back into a prevent zone. Having that versatility to start punishing people with a running back like Skår who could beat you on his own really makes the team well rounded. They will be disappointed that they gave up three scoring drives but putting up north of fifty points on their own makes it seem like minor complaints in an otherwise massively impressive victory.

Meanwhile the Rockets were having their hands full with Vikramandayu University away from the comforts of the Eternal Empire, as their struggles of playing up to par away from home continue to haunt them. Odin Sørbø continues to be the best player perhaps in all of the NSCF, but with two of the offensive linemen hampered with ankle injuries, Svendsen at running back dealing with a sore hamstring, and Mille Ueland as well as Storm Dybvik both struggling with minor ankle injuries of their own, the Rockets offense has not been as efficient and as explosive as what we are used to seeing. It is not on pace to be the best offensive in the NSFC as it is not even the best in the division with the Raiders having blown people out left, right, and center. The team has struggled in the red zone and it made itself known again in this game as the team scored on five of their seven drives but three of those ended with field goals when they were not able to finish off the drives that made it to the red zone. Fortunately the defense was able to step up and make a game preserving interception with fifty-seven seconds left to go to secure the win. It was ugly and the team needs to get healthy and get their red zone offense sorted out if they want to win the division.

Not only are the Rockets trailing the Raiders after their week three defeat in Mar Sara but both teams are technically in a three way tie with Bowerstone, who off the heels of that win against the Raiders in week two have reeled off an additional five wins in a row, for six in a row in total. The Anthor bluebloods are keeping the Vanorian schools honest but the team now has to play a pair of back to back games in the Empire with the Bowerstone first traveling to the capital, before then having to travel to Mar Sara the following week. This week's matchup will be a matter of respect and revenge for Bowerstone, having their only loss be against the Rockets in that opening week tilt, but that was a different Raynor team as they were healthy and had had all the offseason to prepare for that game. Bowerstone could potentially be getting the Rockets at the right exact moment to make the division be torn wide open, as all of the aforementioned injured players for the Rockets are listed as day to day. If they are healthy, the Rockets are nearly impossible to beat at home but with their injuries, there might just be that chance for the visitors, given how hot they are playing at the moment. Meanwhile everyone wonders if the Raiders are going to continue with their new playbook as Roco comes calling or if the team is going to go back to their original one and if to take the over for the betting sorts, which sits at 88.5.

Dante Flowers Showing Out For Cold Hill As The Buffalo Move To 5-2 With Win Over Alexandria

Image
The Buffalo offense is as electric as it's been in years, and they're continuing to push for redemption in the Everless with their fifth win

Dante Flowers has been a massive upgrade at quarterback and there can be no doubt there. After Benoit Youngblood took his bow in NSCF 29, Viktor Rowles was anything but stable. He was benched for part of NSCF 30 before the guy who took his job transferred to Ranoria State, and managed a respectable if unspectacular senior season. Flowers, in his first year as a starter, is looking like a completely different animal. Averaging over three hundred yards a game, the sophomore is running Chris Dale's vaunted scheme to near perfection.
Dante Flowers Stats - 7 Games
Cmp/Att Yards TD INT
184/277 2,467 18 4

The young gun won't be pushing for any awards, but he doesn't need to, because for once, there's actually some balance in this offensive attack. Power back Hebron Naphtali has carried the ball at least twenty times in each of the past four games. A former five star recruit, Naphtali has given the Buffalo offense something they haven't had in over a decade in the run game, when Hue Ross ran for a program record sixteen hundred yards to help win them their first ever NSCF Championship. Last season alone, he put up eleven hundred yards, but he's on pace to be even better this go-round.

"Hebron's an incredible piece to have," Chris Dale admitted after their win over Alexandria, which saw Naphtali earn his 24th career rushing touchdown. "It's opened up the play action game for us, and really takes some pressure off Flowers in his first year as a starter."

Play action isn't something Cold Hill typically leverages much - when you throw the ball forty times a game, often no one bites and that means you're just holding onto the ball too long - but with Naphtali smashing through defenses to the tune of nearly five yards a pop, they have to respect him at the very least, and it's allowed Flowers to average just under nine yards per pass attempt this season - Rowles was at eight yards per throw last season, pretty significant difference there.

With the cross-division state completed, Cold Hill looks strong at 5-2, a win ahead of perennial rivals in Richardson and Felswyr State, neither of whom have looked particularly dominant to start the season.

Nikolas Patel was not in the best of moods. The week after a loss is never fun at Richardson, and he walked out of the Mcnair Memorial Athletic Complex to see something insane - Jack Archer, of all people, was interacting with women. Three of them!

He had his helmet on, but there was no mistaking him - he literbike he was straddled over was downright iconic to any local motorist. But this didn't make any sense after what he'd seen in the cafeteria just a couple weeks prior. And his suspicions were confirmed when Malik Starcevich stopped beside him - that animal worked out with the offensive line - and appeared just as shocked.

"Niklas, I'm tellin' ya I saw this dude freeze from being in the presence of a girl. What the hell is going on?"

They watched as one of the girls won what must've been a game of rock paper scissors, hopped on the back of the bike, and zipped off with a roar of that exceedingly loud engine that clearly had a modified exhaust. "I saw the same thing, I mean, what was that? Dude fumbled twice on the field a couple days ago, twice in the cafeteria two weeks ago, and then he's got this going on? I don't understand it at all."

Both sat there pondering for a moment, and that's when Malik, who still has some brain cells left despite getting over thirty touches per game, figured it out.

"Bro, he has helmet confidence."

"What does that even mean."

"He feels anonymous behind the helmet, it's a super common phenomenon with bikers. Even if he consciously understands they know who he is, there's a barrier between him and the real world."

"Malik," Niklas groaned, "I love ya bud, but you need to get evaluated for a concussion. That makes no sense."

"No no, hear me out," he shot back, "He's been struggling on the field too. Sure he's got some wild plays, but he froze up against BYU and he panicked on those two fumbles against Lebois Santura."

"Where are you going with this?"

"We need to get him a visor, ASAP. Maybe if he feels like he's in a motorcycle helmet, he'll get that helmet confidence on the field. Could be a total game changer."

Niklas snorted, "I don't think that's how that works - you're just trying to find a way to move some of the workload off, aren't ya?"

"I'm begging you Nik, I have had a headache since week one and everything hurts."

NMU star TE Horace Horton, in the 2nd quarter, with his team up 14-0

The Cougars were in the midst of one hell of a start of their game against Saguenay. Early in the second quarter, the Cougars were already up 14-0, after a first quarter that went better than basically everybody across Banija- and Quebec- had seen coming. NMU had chosen to receive the ball coming out of the gate, trying to build some confidence for their beleaguered Quarterback, Wade Hurley. They had a decent drive- a couple of first downs, but a poorly timed holding penalty had forced them to punt- but in a situation where they could pin Saguenay at their own 4 yard line. A fully engaged crowd caused a false start, giving Saguenay a 1st & 12- where they ran twice into the heart of the defense for a combined yard, and then a pick six was thrown to the star LB and team captain, Carmen Dior. Brianna Heavenworth had a long 33 yard TD run in the 1st quarter as well, putting the Cougars in a position where they had an early lead.

An early lead was great, of course- who wouldn't want to be up 14-0 after a quarter, especially when playing a team as dangerous as the Fighting Irish? Obviously, everybody would. Horton had been having, honestly, one hell of a season so far- mostly limited by the ups and downs of his often struggling quarterback, Wade Hurley. But in this situation, this play, Horace Horton knew that he had wanted the football. He only touched it once in the opening quarter- a 12 yard carry, right before Heavenworth's TD run. He had been open twice- but Hurley had missed him both times, overthrowing the star TE. But this time, with the playing being called in the huddle, Horton knew he would get open again. As soon as the QB said break, Horton simply tapped his QB on the shoulder. "I'm gonna leave this backer in the freaking dust." He said. "Get your fucking shit together and throw me an accurate pass for once- we're gonna score."

It was 2nd & 1 for NMU at the Saguenay 35 yard line, just having a 9 yard run by Brianna Heavenworth. In these situations, Hannah McKendry liked to stay aggressive- with the team's running game working so far, this was an opportunity to take a shot. Horton, being a TE, lined up in 2 point stance, next to the Right Tackle. It was a play-action verts play- Horton going up the seam, while the two WRs ran a deep cross. Horton was the primary read, so if the safety didn't bite for the play-action, then he'd hit one of his WRs on those crossing routes. They were lined up with the QB under center, in a traditional I-formation- WRs split out wide, Horton on the line, and both a FB and a HB in the backfield. "Red 46! Red 46!" Hurley started calling out the cadence. "Eagle! Eagle! Set.. HUT!" The ball was snapped. Horton chipped the DE, to sell the run block- and he saw the FS sprint down, knowing that Hurley was presently sticking out the football like he was handing it off.

Horton then started sprinting up the field- and as the FS tried to turn around, seeing that he was probably going to be fooled, he heard the safety drop a F-bomb as he blew by him. He even tried to grab Horton- but to no avail. Safety left in the dust, and Horton using his speed to simply outrun the LB- a matchup that simply wasn't fair. He stuck his hand out- and Hurley finally hit him in stride, dropping one right in the breadbasket. Horton was gone- a 65 yard TD, finished off by diving into the end zone. "LET'S FUCKING GO!" Horton got up, booming. He scanned the crowd briefly- found his Dad, who was with a few of his buddies, all wearing half-USM, half-NMU shirts- USM's hate for Saguenay knew no bounds. He leapt into the crowd, where his Dad was seated in the third row, as the crowd sang his praises.

He then got down, and high-fived his teammates. Running back towards the sideline, he did his Superman pose- pointing straight at Lance Kabuye, who was in a suite. A hell of a TD, one that probably took this game from 'great start' to 'this is an ass-kicking' territory.

"Most complete performance of the McKendry era"- Cougars dominate in all three phases in a thorough 51-7 dismantling of Saguenay

Image
Cougars celebrate one of their 7 TDs on the day in a brilliant home game against Saguenay

HERZEGOVINA CITY, MORAVICA- This was always going to be a big game- circled, on the calendar, before the season, that Saguenay was going to come to town. But then, think about how the season has played out so far. Saguenay racing off to a 5-0 start, building what seemed to be an unassailable lead atop their division in this conference (unassailable no longer). They were on the wrong side of an ass-kicking from The Islamic University, of course- but that only meant they'd come out hungrier for their trip to Herzegovina City. But yeah, they came in at 5-1, still a big favorite to be the Sequoia Division's representative in the Celestia Conference Championship Game. Meanwhile, NMU sitting at 4-2, but not exactly a confidence inspiring 4-2. While they had an excellent win over their hated rivals from Loyola-Istria, they've struggled to wins against lesser competition. Remember only beating Rosemount University (who started 0-6!) by a score of 13-7 on the road? Wade Hurley starting the season with a lone TD and five picks over his first two games? Hell, the only reason they beat first year school Steicesve Strava last week is because they shanked a chip shot FG (from 29 yards!) on the last play of the game.

Up and down. A lot of struggles. Lacking consistency in key spots, at key positions- and with the Islamic U just seeming to be kicking everybody's ass at the same time, they were sitting as underdogs. But amidst all that, Hannah McKendry has kept the faith in her second season. "Remember where I inherited the program- swept by Loyola, 3-10 in NSCF 30." Well below the base expectation, but of course, the HC missed much of the season due to a cancer diagnosis. Last year, she got the team to climb back to 7-6. And while they were not really in the playoff hunt in the end of the season, she had always warned it was going to be a long slog. "NMU has the potential to be the singular dominant program, not only in this conference, but in this entire competition." She told reporters before the season started. "It's going to take time. It's a multi-year process. But we are going to get there, or I'm gonna die trying."

And this game, against Saguenay, emerging from what has been a rough start to the season to wallop a team that had showed themselves to be among the best of the best... Well, it was a glorious win. A satisfying win, for Hannah McKendry and the NMU faithful. The game started well, and seemingly just seemed to get better. Let's get you the game call from the Cougars first touchdown- a pick six.

Banijan Commentator wrote:This crowd is really getting into it- It's 3rd & 11 for Saguenay from their own 3 yard line, and they don't have a lot of options. Doesn't help when you can barely here- they are backed up, right against the NMU student section- unfortunate set of circumstances for the FIghting Irish. This is a spot where McKendry likes to be aggressive- expect her to leave her DBs in man coverage, and bring the house. Can they hold up? They won't have to for long, especially if the blitz gets home. R.S. Santos is lined up in the Gun for the FIghting Irish, with a HB on either side of him. He's got two WRs split out right, and one left. The Cougars are showing pressure- front four, but Dior and Rostyslav Illich Kysil, the LBs on the field, are both showing blitz. Santos making adjustments- presumably, asking his HBs to block. He's got to run the silent count, and claps- the ball is snapped. A disguised blitz- Dior drops back into a zone defense, while Ramsauer is blitzing from the Nickel.

Santos is going to throw over the middle while getting hit.. AND IT'S PICKED OFF! DIOR CATCHES IT, AND THE CHROMATIK WILL RUN IT BACK FOR THE FIRST SCORE OF THE GAME! WOW, WHAT A PLAY! She basically backed up to the sticks, the pass went right to her, and the Chromatik ran 12 yards, basically untouched, into the end zone for her first career touchdown! What a moment for her- and NMU has an early 7-0 lead!

Game's opening TD, scored by the defense. Courtesy of the middle linebacker. That's the type of start you want- but that was nothing, basically, compared to what was going to happen in this game. Northern Moravica was a team on a mission, and damn, they accomplished it today. A shocking 30 points in the first half meant the opening 2 quarters were, functionally, as close to a perfect half of football as you could get. Even when interviewed by the halftime sideline reporter, McKendry could only grin. "Look, obviously, this half has been a great one- one of the great halves of NMU football- certainly our best of the season." And their best of the era. "To go up like this against a team as talented as the team opposite, well, it's great. But we've got a half of football left to play- and we are going to finish this game."

This was a full, complete, team effort- although the stars shown. Wade Hurley, the embattled QB, had three TD passes on the day- as the offense got more and more electric throughout the day. Horace Horton blitzed the suddenly struggling Saguenay team for 227 scrimmage yards. He had 8 catches for 146 receiving yards, including a 65 yard TD catch in the second quarter. But he also was impactful in the run game, having 11 carries for 81 yards- including a 51 yard TD run in the third quarter. A versatile weapon, Horton is a swiss army knife. You look throughout this offense, it doesn't quite have the spark or the stars of NMU offenses past- except, of course, with Horace Horton. And Horton is Mr. Do-It-All- basically serving as a star TE while being the team's RB2. Allows him to get touches in all sorts of places, and we know how dangerous he is with the ball- out of his 81 rushing yards, 77 of them were yards after contact.

Hurley- check, three TD passes to three different WRs. Both Horton and Heavenworth had rushing TDs- and remember, Heavenworth had 112 rushing yards herself. They almost went for the holy grail 250/250 as a team- 250 passing, 250 rushing. While ending up with 541 yards of total offense, NMU had 322 passing yards as a team(all courtesy of Wade Hurley), and 219 team rushing yards. And, of course, even a special teams touchdown, with a punt return being housed after a 68 yard return. The real only blemish on the day? Missing a PAT in the second quarter. "Look, are they actually 44 points better than Saguenay- no, of course not." Said a Banijan TV analyst. "But sometimes, in CFB, when it rains, it pours- and got to give credit to NMU. They developed a hell of a gameplan, executed it to perfection. And look- just because you get early momentum, doesn't mean you can carry it throughout a whole game. But this is one that will have reveberations- throughout the Savannah, the Celestia at-large, and all of college football."

What does that mean? The NSCF, as a whole, can take notice of NMU. 5-2, second in the division, and a big-time win against a big-time opponent- putting it all together, in all phases, for the first time this season. Got to be feeling good about themselves- but they will have to turn around quickly, with nothing less than first place in the Savannah on the line next week, when the Islamic U treks across the basin to take on Northern Moravica at Mugisha II Memorial. Can they upset the Caracals in what surely has Celestia game of the year potential?

The Lakiska Daily

Caracals set up for what could be a 'Division title decider' as they travel to Herzegovina City for a big game with Northern Moravica

HERZEGOVINA CITY, MORAVICA- After a huge road win in Week 6 over a then unbeaten Saguenay, there was always a possibility of a letdown game. These happen in sports, especially in college- these players are human. This game right here, against Steicesve Strava, was a classic trap game. Remember, Steicesve Strava beat USC this season- so despite entering the game at 2-4, they are no slouches. But a huge game against Saguenay, on the road, and then next week, another big game against Northern Moravica, also on the road- this one has the ability to get lost. For people to overlook it for a school that they have a strong distaste for, in NMU. And Strava, who were oh so close last week to getting what would be yet another signature win, came into town with an us against the world mentality. Despite being 19.5 point underdogs, they wanted to shock the world- that they could get another shock win, and prevent the Islamic U from garnering a stranglehold on this conference.

THe first half, Strava went about causing chaos, and making sure they were the best team in the key moments. Causing chaos, and big plays- an interception in the first quarter led directly to the opening touchdown of the game for the visiting team. And Ersoy, who has been dominant and elite in so many ways this season, had a pretty poor first half by his own standards. A 4th down conversion right at the 50 yard line went haywire, as the normally elite O-Line got dominated at the point of attack, and the Caracals had a turnover on downs. The half was rough, and suddenly, the prospect of what be the upset of the season was on the horzion. Could the visitors do it? They went into the half, up 14-10 against the Islamic University, and we are sure that AIgo laid into his players.

Whatever he said at halftime, naturally, was enough. The team came out in the third quarter, and did what they probably should have done to start with- a thorough dismantling of their opponents. Strava had a great half, but in the second half, the team came out focused, much better for wear- and went out to dominate. Four straight possessions to start the half, the Islamic U had four long drives- 256 yards of total offense on those 4 drives alone. And, most importantly, 4 touchdowns were scored- a dismantling both on the ground, and in the air. The defense dominated in the second half, pitching a shutout for the half. Aigo said it was a great response after a poor first half. "Look, we did not start the game how we wanted to." Aigo told reporters. "But ultimately, we found our groove, and we performed as well as we are capable of. We are 6-1, getting back into divisional play- and I like the position we are in."

An important win, to improve to 6-1. This ensured that the Islamic University stayed atop the Savannah Division, as they sit at 6-1 with three games left. With their next game taking place in Herzegovina City, against NMU, well... It's a huge contest. "We are well aware how big our next game is." Kohan Ersoy told reporters. "It's a chance, functionally, to show the world who we are- and more importantly, a chance to functionally win the division with two games to go. It would be a huge win- putting us on the brink of going back to Busukuma for a second straight season, and accomplishing our first goal of the season- win the division. If we win the division, we can win the conference, and if we do that... Anything is possible."

Let's talk about the key players for the Islamic University- who has to step up in order for them to win this game?

Key Player on The Islamic University offense: QB Kohan Ersoy

Unsurprisingly, it's the star QB, Kohan Ersoy, who is going to be the player to watch. The Islamic University was expected to be carried by its defense this season, and that was not an unreasonable expectation. But the offense has exploded this season- through 7 weeks, they have the #3 scoring offense in the entire competition(and #1 in the conference), putting up 33.7 points per game. And in their last 5 games, particularly, they have had all the makings of one of the great offenses in this competition. Last 5 point total- 47, 38, 28, 44, and 39 points scored. How many points are they averaging over that time frame? 39.2 points per game. And what's their record across that time frame? That's right- a perfect 5-0, including defeating an actual 5-0 team in Saguenay.

This has all happened because Ersoy has elevated his game. He was always going to have an opportunity to have a big year, with Okombo's graduation. And he's had a huge season. He's a player that does it all- averaging, over the past 5 games, 290 passing yards, and 45 rushing yards, per game. When he's guaranteed to account for nearly 350 yards of total offense per game, he's basically going to be unstoppable. He's driven by quite a bit- but he wants to be seen as the best QB in this conference. Better than an heir of Isaka Jawara himself. And if he has a huge game at Mugisha II Memorial, en route to clinching the division? Well, his legacy would surely be taken care of.

Key PLayer on the Islamic University defense: SS Tackin Gozubuyuk

Horace Horton, the star TE for Northern Moravica, might be one of the most unique talents we've seen in the NSCF. What a story the player has as well- suspended for his freshman season, and the vast majority of his sophomore season, this is his first real full season in the NSCF- and he's game-wrecking everybody. With NMU's HB2, Maganda, still missing time due to injury, Horton has also taken the HB2 role and been explosive. Listen to his HB coach, Apollo Esther, talk about him. "We've got a thunder & thunder combination- two big, powerful, and physical HBs that are very capable of breaking tackles. Horton, obviously, is also a very accomplished TE- how many guys can run between the tackles, block for HBs, and serve as our top WR target? Elite everywhere."

Trying to stop him is tough- when NMU's offense struggles, it is because the QB struggles. Wade Hurley is an up and down QB- sometimes he's cooking, but much of the time, he's struggling. The Islamic U is going to spend quite a bit of their focus trying to muck him up- they are going to send all sorts of pressure at Wade Hurley. But the key man here, is the strong safety we rarely talk about- Gozubuyuk. He will have primary responsibility to be the guy in man coverage, against Horace Horton. "Look- I relish matchups like these." Tackin told reporters. "I want to go against the very best, and Horton is probably the singular best offensive talent that this entire conference has to offer. Love that the staff is entrusting me with this responsibility."

Of course, it will not strictly be man to man. Expect a bit of double coverage, a lot of bump & run- they will have to design their gameplan around stopping Horton, and they are going to be ready to do exactly that. If they can't... Well, NMU's going to light up the scoreboard all night long.

Islamic University HC Julian AIgo, at a meeting with a few boosters on campus on the Wednesday before their Week 8 game against Northern Moravica

The event he was at today, was a fundraiser. He wasn't super focused on what was going on- but as a college football coach, he knew maintaining these relationships was an essential part of the gig. It wasn't just football- the grind of managing relationships with staff, with boosters, with all sorts of people. Didn't particularly enjoy them, but hey- he knew that he needed to schmooze. And hey, when the team was winning- this type of stuff was easy. A lot of smiles and handshakes, pictures, even signing footballs and what not for people's kids and stuff.

One of the boosters, who used to play for the Islamic U about 25 years ago, walked up to Coach Aigo. "Coach Julian, hell of a season so far. 6-1?"

"Yes, things have gone pretty damn well. They thought we would fall off." They both laughed. "Look, I've always said- if this school invests properly, we can have sustained football success. And hey- full credit to the school. We are investing everywhere." And that was so true. Both the school, on an institutional level, and the boosters, were putting crazy amounts of cash behind the football program. They, obviously, could never spend at the level of NMU or Loyola- but it could be seen everywhere. Improvements at the practice facility. They finished a new weight room, built just last week. Hell, Delbin Kasekende Sr- the President of the entire damn country- was a regular attendee at their games.

"Think you're gonna beat NMU?"

"Hey man." They both laughed. Aigo was not one to predict a win like that in a singular game- lots of downside if things went wrong. But, he was feeling quietly confident. "Team's looking good, practice has been good. Excited to fly tomorrow."

"Hey Coach!" Another booster yelled at him from across the room. "You've got to take it to NMU next week. Those fucking Cougar boosters- most annoying team I've ever seen."

"Eh coach- fuck the Cougs and the Thunder, am I right?" Said a third booster, who had walked up.

"Ey- let's get a speech from coach!" Yelled a fourth. Suddenly, the room was full of boosters, asking for a speech. It wasn't a recorded event- so what the hell, why not?

"Guys, thanks for coming here today." Julian Aigo told them all. "As always- go Caracals!" They all yelled go Caracals back, and the boosters clapped. "And hey- fuck NMU, am I right?"

"Yeah, FUCK NORTHERN!" Yelled one booster, eliciting laughs from everybody.

"Ok, ok, look." He paused, and then continued. "We all know- there's a big game Saturday. You guys have seen the standings. If we beat NMU, we can eliminate them from the race for the Savannah Division title- and our chances of winning the division skyrocket, to well in the upper 80s, in terms of percentages. But Saturday's game, and really, the next two games, are about more than this season." They all paused, listening to their coach. "When I came here, I didn't want just one winning season, and then dip out. I wanted to build the most dominant program in the Celestia Conference." They all clapped and whistled at this. "They said I was a madman, didn't they?"

Everybody laughed, and then they continued. "We won the Savannah last season. But in reality, this season is the real test. Nobody saw us coming, we were a feel-good story. But this year, everybody sees us coming. They all know we are an elite team, an elite program. You can't be elite unless people respect you as such. You know what I want the headline to be this weekend, after we go to Herzegovina City and pull off yet another W over those damned Cougars? I want it to say- 'Islamic University takes control of the Celestia Conference'.

We are all here for long-term success. But that takes all of us, moving in the same direction. In these meetings, on the field, in the classroom. I promise you- I'm going to do whatever possible for us to get the win on Saturday, and kicks Moravica's ass 7 ways to heaven. As for you guys- do your part. If you want to do what was thought impossible? A sporting program, built in Lakiska, better than anything Loyola or NMU could build? Continue your support. In all ways- it is these kind of days that build lasting success on Saturdays."

"Thank you, and go Busoga!" They all yelled back. Aigo left shortly after, his message sent. With this done, his mind was clear- his entire focus was on Northern Moravica.

Two more games were played for both the Trent State Feathercaps and the Green City Royal Eagles...including Homecoming Week for both schools. Let's see what happened.

Université nationale de Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer (UNC) 13–29 Trent State University (TJU)
Finally, something goes the way of the Caps. After three straight defeats, they managed to avoid making it four at the Stade Georges-Étienne Latouche. Jessica Daniels took the lead and never looked back, scoring 4 TDs and rushing home a 2-point conversion amidst the fun. Alexia Laframboise tried keeping up, but to no avail.

Uniwersytet Nowa Kalanianska (UNC) 37–7 Green City University (TJU)
That cannot be said for the Royal Eagles over at the Stadion Urszula Piotrowska. The Aztecs seemingly wanted a sacrifice and they got one...as GCU only managed 7 points in the entire contest - a rushing score by Yassan Namnganda. Carter McElhaney got 3 TDs by himself. Domination before Homecoming.

Trent State University (TJU) 15–17 University of Columbus-Prairie (DHE)
TSU's Homecoming would see the UCP Blue Jays come to town in what was expected to be a very tough afternoon...but while the Caps still lost, it really went down to the wire. Both QBs managed only 2 TDs in the contest but in the end, a FG from François McDuff ended up being the decisive factor. 2-5. Ouch.

Green City University (TJU) 51–34 Roane State University (KNP)
As for GCU, how does 85 combined points sound? In a game that was a perfect example of having no defence, nothing seemed to make sense across the 60 minutes. But hey, a win is a win...right?
