Phoenixes first win at the NSCF, 15-12
By the Phoenixes Sports Desk, Vaelis Brightsong

The rumours were true and Windrider might just be a genius.

As the teams ran out onto the field for the first play of the game the whispers from the corridors were proven to be true, Windrider has thrown out any semblance of tradition and is blooding many of the freshmen in the offence to try and generate some scoring pressure to back up our defence. A defence which currently boasts the lowest amount of points conceded in the conference and the third lowest across all conferences.

Jackalope with his first start in college football confirmed some nerves with a couple of early wayward passes, I’m sure I could see some sweat beading on Windriders head, but settled into the game completing 10 of 17 passes for 92 yards. Running back Bearclaw stood up to be noticed grinding out important yards rushing for 55 yards from his 15 attempts. Not an explosive game but steady gains kept the match ticking for the freshman and many proved their worth, none less than wide receiver Woodheart as he made 5 receptions for 62 yards including a third quarter touchdown to spark the life back into the game for the Phoenixes.

The game did not start well for the Phoenixes, whilst the defence held the Generals at arms reach, never giving up much territory but not being able to stop the field goal attempts found themselves losing early on finishing the first quarter 3-0.

Things did not improve in the second quarter as the offence couldn’t quite string together enough of a drive to get within range of the posts turning over the ball on a couple of fourth down attempts saw the score slip further to 9-0.

The half time team talk must have been one motivational message as there was now a glint in the eyes of all who stepped onto the pitch, some of the seniors, Silkenheart and Goldheart, now mixed back in with the freshmen galvanised the offence to charge down the pitch, lots of plays and lots of gains until Jackalope fired a missile into the chest of Woodheart who held on for dear life, needing a moment to catch the breath that was knocked out of him before leaping to his feet to celebrate with his teammates. The score 9-7 after the extra point from Duskblade sailed through the middle of the uprights.

The Generals managed another kick early in the fourth quarter to reestablish their lead to 12-7 but the reinvigorated offense of the Phoenixes came back at them with a vengeance moving the ball down the field until Bearclaw couldn’t quite breakthrough the line and Duskblade was called on again to make a 46 yard field goal attempt, straight as an arrow never in doubt, 12-10. Braverains kick-off couldn’t have been placed better, almost hanging in the air at the whim of a higher being, forcing the Generals to call a fair catch and set up on their own 5 yard line. Thalindra Nightfall, the defensive co-ordinator gesticulated wildly at the touchline to Windrider and Nightingale as some form of agreement was made before the first snap of the generals drive with less than 2 minutes on the clock for this quarter. Well there was no guessing what must have been said as Nightingale times the snap perfectly flattening the Generals guard and charging after the quarterback who looked like a deer in headlights as the freight train ran straight through the quarterback for a safety, the game is tied 12-12. Cobaltheart received the kick and managed to regain some field position up to the half way line. The offense lined up and play after play ground out the yardage, short passes and runs out to touch to stop the clock as they pass the 40, the 30, the 20 and get held. Into the last 10 seconds as Duskblade sprints to his mark, a deep breath, a moment for his retribution as the ball is snapped and placed…. Duskblade pummels the ball through the uprights as the time runs out, euphoria on the players faces.

We caught up with Windrider after the game “Yeah it’s great to get a win on the big stage the guys deserve, they’ve trained hard and persevered and this win showed real character.” *and what about the idea to start a lot of the first years?* “They’ve been chomping at the bit and we haven’t really been scoring much, relying heavily on Duskblade, who has been excellent and I’m really pleased he bounced back to kick that winner today showed some mental strength after last week.”

“I knew I had to get there and the team needed me to” Nightingale recounted “We’ve worked on it in training with Nightfall and the timing and positioning were perfect, people underestimate me due to my size but I’m quick over that short distance as that QB found out” as he chuckled back to the changing room.

The Phoenixes victory over Gerthos State showcased the potential of our younger guys with freshmen stepping up on both sides of the ball, including key performances from Bearclaw on offense and Ironheart on defense, the team demonstrated resilience and poise under pressure. The win, fueled by strong defensive play and timely offensive drives, propels Lithrelier to a 1-2 record in the Equinox Division, giving them momentum as they look to build on this success throughout the rest of the season.

Back on the road next week to Staramara Tech who currently sit bottom of the Starlight division the Phoenixes will have to continue this form for hopes of success in this debut season. Stay tuned, as this team is ready to soar once more.

The NationStates College Football, shortened to NSCF, is NationStates' Premier college football competition.

Editor's Note
Hello and welcome back to another edition of ImporSports. Today, we finally get to interview the new head of the Imporian Gridiron Football Federation and also interview the very talented and influencial QB of the Fossas, no other than Malone himself! We are excited to show you more stats and an up-to-date ranking of the NSCF 32, which is usable by any other. Before I leave, I'd like to talk about our Brand-New stats and graphs to help you, the reader, get a more technical and in-depth visualization of the matches that are being played and documented here in the ImporSports Magazine. Without further ado, let's begin!

Kings Of the Heartland!!!
You may, as a Fossa fan yourself, have heard of their 2 wins and their newly acquired title of Kings of the Heartland, but did you know they are now going against the Boreal division? Of sure you did, right? To stay in line with our vocation of making Sports journalism in the multiverse more visual, we give you a visual representation of our future and past matches:
MD1 @ Trent State University (TJU) - Win 7-19 (0-1)
MD2 vs Green City (TJU) - Win 27-13 (1-0)
MD3 @ Kormania University (BRS) - Win 14-30 (0-1)
MD4 vs Roane State University (KNP)
MD5 @ Uniwersytet Nowa Kalanianska (UNC)
MD6 @ University of Columbus-Prairie (DHE)
MD7 vs Université nationale de Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer (UNC)

MD8 vs Trent State University (TJU)
MD9 @ Green City (TJU)
MD10 vs Kormania State University (BRS)

Angelo Malone: Step into the legend
Interviewer: Daniel "Big Dan" Lawson
Big Dan: Hello! I'm so glad to finally meet you, Malone
Malone: It's an honour to meet you, Dan. (Context: Big Dan was the QB of the National team for 20 years. He is now a journalist at ImporMedia)
B: I've been told your team was unstoppable in the NSCF?
M: Kind of. We have a great team and it's a lot of work to lead them on the field. I think we have all the future national selection. Speaking of selection, where are you on your project of becoming the coach of the Fossas?
B: I'm going to coach in maybe 3 years or something like that. Do you think your team can make it in the top 12?
M: Maybe... If we work hard, we can make this a reality. We just need 2 or 3 more wins and a lot of touchdowns.
B: Ok. I believe you also plan to join another club or are you going to stay with the Fossas?
M: Actually, I think the feeling of walking in the same hallways past Imporian champions went through and having a real strong, determined and sympathic fanbase will already keep me out of any other club. But maybe an offer from a VERY prestigious club might be discussable.
B: Speaking of discussion, this is already the end of our little discussion. Thanks for coming here in Grieune to visit us!
M: Thanks to you and to the readers & fans of the Fossas!

Here come the (future) Champs!
Yes, you heard me right. Fossas will win the NSCF... Kind of. Anyways, today morning, ImporMedia journalists and enthusiasts woke up to a great news: WE WON!!! Now, we're the Kings of the Heartland.
Kormania University (BRS) 14–30 Niakursk University (IMP)

# Heartland Division Pld W L PF PA PD
1 Niakursk University 3 3 0 76 34 +42
2 Trent State University 3 1 2 74 72 +2
3 Kormania University 3 1 2 64 80 −16
4 Green City University 3 1 2 66 94 −28

Now, this match was a tough battle between the Fossas and the Boars. The game started strong with a Borschtlavian touchdown and a goal. Sadly, that was Malone's game to make 2 TD's in a row. For the rest of the game, our score was always double or triple of the Borschtlavians and we keep our 1st place of the Division.

The Kings moved up to #7 in the NSCF 32 rankings (Source: ImporSports) after another blowout win against the TCC Atheists winning by a whopping 37 points. This improved VKU's record to 2-1 and move system up I'm the top 10 in the tournament a big deal.

The Kings revived first and held the ball again mixing up play action passes and runs to throw the defense around. The Atheists defense were getting tossed around like ragdolls and the Kings matched down the field. At the 18 on 2nd & 8 Ronnie Huang stood strong on the pocket and delivered a shape ball to an open Shaun Hilliard on an in route and Hilliard shed a tackle and cut up the field shaking off a defender and being pushed into the end zone for an 18 yard touchdown. The defense held with Mark Debourne leading the carge once again stopping them and grinding their developing drive to a halt. The Kings drove down the field again this time with Ronnie Huang going to the air most of the time and they looked like they were about to score but Damian Banks s
Bull Rushed this way through and took down Huang forcing a field goal to make it 10-0.

After that it was all VKU. A brilliant pick by Liam Li led to a one hand 22 yard passing touchdown caught by Arjun Silla and the Defense was playing perfect leading to another classic aggressive Shaun Hilliard jumping 33 yard receiving touchdown. The third quarter was opened up by an Atheists stop and a long drive that le stop their first touchdown on a 15 yard fade to Zane Adams but it was all Vikramandayu after that again. With Blackson pushing an 8 yard draw for a touchdown and 2 Mile Uno kicks to make it a blowout victory 44-7.

The defense played tremendous. The linebackers were all over the place like last game and the secondary was a no fly zone with Liam Li playing a perfect game cutting off deep routes and making brilliant defensive leads. Debourne coming off a good defensive performance from last week played amazing again with 9 tackles and 2 tackles for loss flying all over the field. Tristan Li also showcased his skills with 2 sacks and constant pressure on the QB playing the best D Line perf

Ronnie Huang played a master class game with a 300+ yard performance and a good completion percentage while Shaun Hilliard had another 100+ yard performance with Arjun Silla having 50+ again. Blackson ja another 100+ yard performance as the offense continue stop donate and show it's strengths

Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer, Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer, Nova Calania - On week 3, two Nova Calanian universities battled for a newly created trophy: The King of the Ocean of Ayes Trophy, given anually to the best college football team from Nova Calania. Université nationale de Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer won the first leg 23-13 and the 2nd leg will be played on week 10 in Ostrow Krolewski. This game on week 3 was played in two parts. 1st half was played on saturday night under light rain, but the rain became heavier and 2nd half was played on monday night when the rain stopped. Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer won the coin toss and choose to receive the ball and, on their 1st drive, Jean-Jacques Cauchon made a 45 yards field goal. Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer increased their lead before the end of the 1st quarter when Alexia Laframboise threw a 22 yards pass to Hai Rong Dong for the touchdown. Nowa Kalanianska made a 26 yards field goal midway in the 2nd half and the score at halftiime was 10-3 Toucans. The rain became heavier at the end of the 2nd quarter and when both teams came out of the locker room for the 3rd quarter kickoff, it was impossible to play under these conditions and the game was postponed.

The game resumed two days later, on a monday, and weather conditions were good: 26 ° C and cloudy. Nowa Kalanianska started off with the ball but the drive ended with a punt. Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer followed with a 36 yards field goal. The Aztecs made a 41 yards field goal on their next drive and the score after 3 quarters was 13-6. Early in the 4th quarter, the Toucans scored a 5 yards passing touchdown when fullback Nicolas Poulette caught Alexia Laframboise's pass into the endzone. Late in the 4th quarter, Nowa Kalanianska finally scored a touchdown when Malgorzata Kozlowska caught Agnieszka Wilczak's 16 yards pass into the endzone. On their next drive, Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer punted the ball and Nowa Kalanianska started off with the ball at their own 24 yards line. On her first pass, Wilczak was intercepted by Guillaume Neveu who returend the ball to the Aztecs 17 yards line. Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer's offense couldn't advance, and, on a 4th and 16 at the 23 yards line, Jean-Jacques Cauchon made a 40 yards field goal. The final score was 23-13 Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer.

Columbus-Prairie beat Roane State 30-16 and, after 3 games, Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer is 2nd in the standings with 2 wins and a loss, behind Columbus-Prairie, who has 3 wins. Nowa Kalanianska is dead last with 3 losses in 3 games. On matchday 4, the Toucans will travel to Green City in TJUN-ia while the Aztecs will travel to Trent State, also located in TJUN-ia. Caracals roll in dominating 47-14 blowout victory over Rosemount U as they move into the cross-divisional of the season

Image
Players celebrating after blowout home win over Rosemount U

LAKISKA, SOUTH ISLAND, BUSOGA ISLANDS- Last week's loss against Loyola-Istria, at the Istria Lightning Yard, was a brutal one for the Islamic U. Down 14-3 at half, on the road, in one of the toughest places to play in the entire NSCF. Clawing back to tie the game at 17-17 in the fourth quarter, and then, to have Sebowa Jawara pull off one of the best impressions of his uncle that you've ever seen- simply brutal. But, you know, it's early in the season- this division race was always going to be tighter than last year's, and that game was simply proof of that. Everything is still in front of The Islamic U- and, with so little to choose between the three Basin programs after this amount of games, they know their goals are still in front of them.

So what mattered is not necessarily the standings after two games. For these guys, in their first Noon kick of the season, what mattered the most was the performance, coming off of a tough conference loss. And they responded well- beating the daylights out of Rosemount U, as they flew out to a 31-0 lead at halftime, and eventually won the game 47-14. It was a dominant performance from the start. Pressure from a well-designed blitz caused the Rosemount QB to throw an interception on the game's opening drive, we would score a TD from a yard out just over three minutes later, and then suddenly- it was on.

Dominant defensive performance, with complimentary performance by the offense, just allowed the Caracals to wear down their opponents- and their offense was continuously scoring the football, seemingly at will. "We want to sap the will out of opponents- and on this day, we did that." Said the team's head coach, Julian Aigo. "That first half performance is exactly what you want as favorites- get ahead quickly, score often, mentally let them know who the better team is, and functionallly have things over at halftime." They were abe to do exactly that, scoring on their first 5 posseesions, with 4 touchdowns and a FG, while not yielding a single first half point.

Not much to write about in the second half- since we went in with a 31-0 lead, and we ended up leading 40-7 by the time we pulled our starters in the 4th quarter. Each time scored a TD after that, and 47 to 14 was the final score- an accurate representation of how things went on the field today. "Last year, obviously, we dropped a very disappointing game in Week 3 to the College of Maresda." Julian Aigo told reporters. "We were feeling ourselves, looking ahead, etc... But in this competition, and in this conference specifically, anybody can win on any given day. Can't underestimate a team due to past performances. So I was glad we were able to lock in, give them our best shot, and let them know exactly who should be rulling the Savannah."

The Savannah, quite literally, has nothing to choose between the three Basin teams- The Islamic U, NMU, and Loyola-Istria all sit at 2-1, all with a home win over one another, all with a road loss to one another, and all three with a win over Rosemount U(although some more convincing than others- looking your way, Northern Moravica). But the season moves on- we took care of business, and now, time for cross-divisional play. The Islamic U gets a USC team, coming to Lakiska, that's looking for revenge. Last year, we beat them three times- once in the regular season in a 35-32 thriller in Joongyeong. Once in the conference championship game- where we won a brutal title contest, 13-12, at the Stadium of the Restoration over USC. And lastly, in the Quarterfinals of the NSCF playoffs, where the third time was not the charm for the Bleu et Blanc, where we beat them at home for our first ever NSCF playoff win.

"I'm sure USC has not forgotten about those games." Julian Aigo told reporters. "But, frankly, last year's games don't matter. We are gong to be conference rivals for a long time- the rivalry is built, and it's a big game for us- henceforth this is a night game. But, of course, we've got to be focused on our gameplan this year." While the Bleu et Blanc have started just 1-2, and lost to Saguenay for the first time in what seems like forever, So the pressure on Kirby Wright, after a playoff failure domestically as well, is rising. This would be a great game for him, in front of this type of audience, to stem the tide and let everyone know that USC is here to win the Celestia. But what about for us?

"Obviously, The Islamic U needs to keep pace with NMU and Loyola." Said a Busogan TV analyst, previewing this game. "The crowd is going to be ridiculous- sellout crowd, night game, everyone's going to be jumping. Expect this to be an extremely physical game. USC has one of the best defenses in all of college football- #1 in the conference so far in points allowed, giving up just 33 points in three games. You'll probably only have two or three possesions where you really have a chance to score- can you make those count? Ensure those FGs turn into TDs? This game might be a race to 20- whoever gets to 20 (if either side does at all), is almost certainly going to win this game."

A chance to go 3-1, and extend their regular season winning streak to 10 straight home games, dating back to last season, looms for the Islamic U. A chance to get a statement win for Coach Wright, and right the ship from a slow start, for USC. Who will triumph? We'll find out tonight, at 7:30, at Bucak Field.

The State of Chromatik Football
Part 1: Alpha Conference

Chromatik High School Gridiron - Season Fourteen
Part 2: Beta Conference

Predicted Order of Finish:
1. Staramara Tech High School Battle Angels
2. East Omnio High School Geomancers
3. Staramara Athletics Academy Rangers
4. Urrhed High School Sand Vipers
5. West Omnio High School Spectral Monks
6. Tihon Elite Academy Fog Wall

Matchday 1
Staramara Athletics Academy 29–22 Urrhed High School
Tihon Elite Academy 27–21 East Omnio High School
Staramara Tech High School 20–7 West Omnio High School

To Staramara Tech High School, defense is a way of life. Sure, Freya Odinsdóttir may be playing for Felswyr State now, but that doesn't change much in the mind of one Head Coach Jack Westhaven; under the leadership of Senior Quarterback Amy Skylar, the offense does just enough while a newly reinvigorated Cherry Edmonton uses Lidia Montemayer and Willard Doha of the last two years to continue to be the defensive powerhouse of the Chromatik High School Gridiron system. The Battle Angels' first game of the season goes according to play, limiting West Omnio Quarterback Adara Cueva to just 104 yards in her first career start. West Omnio scores their only touchdown late in garbage time, and Staramara Tech looks to be as scary as ever. The other two games are rather close - the Fog Wall's Kimberley Decraene finding Arnau Bescós with three seconds remaining for the Fog Wall and Staramara Athletics Academy Strong Safety Katagirl Roka picking off Urrhed High School's Izajasz Piekarski for a pick-six that ends up being the difference in that contest.

Matchday 2
Urrhed High School 26–10 West Omnio High School
East Omnio High School 16–29 Staramara Tech High School
Staramara Athletics Academy 14–0 Tihon Elite Academy

The Sand Vipers respond from their Week 1 defeat by dominating time of possession, scoring on six consecutive drives to build up the margin. Staramara Tech High School does have an extra point blocked, but still score twenty-nine past East Omnio, Georgina Halls having her hands full with everything that is going on. As for the Rangers, blanking a Fog Wall squad fresh off of upsetting East Omnio shows how good Logan Vandenbroucke is - the Freshman getting two sacks and a forced fumble.

Matchday 3
Tihon Elite Academy 24–40 Urrhed High School
Staramara Tech High School 19–3 Staramara Athletics Academy
West Omnio High School 14–10 East Omnio High School

Rivalry week - starting off with the high-profile matchup between the two Staramara prep schools. Sure, the Athletics Academy doesn't have the quality of players that they used to compared to the Battle Angels, but Ryan Nakt has shown some capacity to throw the ball. Against the Battle Angels, though, he can barely throw for over 130 yards as Willard Doha's fifteen tackles lead the way; Grayson Marsh goes off for 152 yards and the only touchdown of the game. In Omnio, West Omnio gets their first win of the season as their stellar line protects Adara Cueva to an efficient two-touchdown day, their defense doing the rest with all the new talent on the line combining for four sacks.

Matchday 4
Urrhed High School 37–53 East Omnio High School
Staramara Athletics Academy 36–17 West Omnio High School
Tihon Elite Academy 10–13 Staramara Tech High School

East Omnio looks to be getting back into things - Edward Warrington going for 321 yards and four scores is nice, being set up by solid runs by Wena Agher and three turnovers with the improved secondary. The Sand Vipers did try to hang in there - but Izajasz Piekarski couldn't keep up despite getting three touchdowns himself. For a while, it was a back-and-forth game, but the Geomancers pull away.

Staramara Athletics Academy has the best game from Ryin Nakt to get away from West Omnio - Lana Morheim is such a nice target for a Freshman Quarterback to have - and the Battle Angels escape from the Fog Wall, Amy Skylar lethal going 6-of-8 on the final drive to set up the game-winning field goal.

Matchday 5
Staramara Tech High School 19–10 Urrhed High School
West Omnio High School 30–17 Tihon Elite Academy
East Omnio High School 41–29 Staramara Athletics Academy

The Omnio schools sweep - Staramara Athletics Academy throwing away another promising start from Ryin Nakt where the Freshman had two touchdowns - while the Spectral Monks' Nadzieja Zaruba wrecks the Fog Wall with four tackles for loss, two sacks, and a forced fumble. For a half, the Sand Vipers have the Battle Angels where they want them - but Amy Skylar gets back to it in the Second Half, and the Battle Angels' defense does the rest once they take the lead.

Matchday 6
Urrhed High School 37–16 Staramara Athletics Academy
East Omnio High School 33–10 Tihon Elite Academy
West Omnio High School 9–22 Staramara Tech High School

It's a tussle fighting for second place, with the Geomancers making sure the Fog Wall can't get to them twice with a dominant showing from Wena Agher, while Urrhed High School's handling of the Rangers showcase that Izajasz Piekarski's right arm may be enough in a few years. Four touchdowns is a nice touch. Staramara Tech all but clinches first place in the regular season behind another solid defensive showing, holding West Omnio to less than 200 yards of total offense.

Matchday 7
West Omnio High School 3–16 Urrhed High School
Staramara Tech High School 47–7 East Omnio High School
Tihon Elite Academy 17–9 Staramara Athletics Academy

You're going to take lumps learning this game as a Freshman - just like Ryin Nakt did against the Fog Wall. Committing four total turnovers, the Fog Wall picked up their second win of the year with Émilienne Rochette being the one to force two of those turnovers. Urrhed High School gets into the drivers' seat behind another grind-it-out performance against the Spectral Monks (thank you, Giles Kansonoff), and the Battle Angels clinch first place in the Division with Amy Skylar turning in another workmanlike performance - 356 yards, three touchdowns, and leading Grayson Marsh to two more scores.

Matchday 8
Urrhed High School 17–10 Tihon Elite Academy
Staramara Athletics Academy 3–7 Staramara Tech High School
East Omnio High School 23–33 West Omnio High School

Urrhed High School all but clinches second place with Shinsato Katsu running the ball in from five yards out with thirty seconds left; the Staramara battle is a defensive one, the Battle Angels scoring the game's only score from the defensive side, and West Omnio completes the sweep of East Omnio, Adara Cueva running for 152 yards and two scores in the process.

Matchday 9
East Omnio High School 37–11 Urrhed High School
West Omnio High School 6–6 Staramara Athletics Academy (13–6 OT)
Staramara Tech High School 27–0 Tihon Elite Academy

Urrhed High School's faltering at East Omnio gives room for both the Omnio schools to have a chance on the final matchday - give the secondary of Wylie Shtoli and Georgina Halls a lot of credit with three interceptions. West Omnio outlasts the Rangers in overtime, and Staramara Tech doesn't let Tihon Elite Academy breathe in a shutout victory.

Matchday 10
Urrhed High School 13–12 Staramara Tech High School
Tihon Elite Academy 14–14 West Omnio High School (34–28 OT)
Staramara Athletics Academy 23–14 East Omnio High School

While Urrhed High School was putting together the final touches to handing the Battle Angels their first loss of the season - Giles Kansonoff and the Sand Vipers beat Staramara Tech High School at their own game with defense - East Omnio High School was tripped up by a Staramara Athletics Academy with nothing to lose, and Tihon Elite Academy managed to beat West Omnio High School in quadruple overtime, Amau Bescós catching the final touchdown pass.

Beta Conference Pld W L PF PA PD
1 Staramara Tech High School 10 9 1 215 78 +137 Conference Championship Game
2 Urrhed High School 10 6 4 229 213 +16 Conference Championship Game

3 West Omnio High School 10 4 6 164 210 −46
4 Staramara Athletics Academy 10 4 6 168 187 −19
5 East Omnio High School 10 4 6 255 260 −5
6 Tihon Elite Academy 10 3 7 149 232 −83
Staramara Tech High School only concedes 78 points in ten games despite losing a game, while the Sand Vipers barely make it to the Championship Game. If they don't win the Conference Game, they probably won't make the field for the playoffs either.
Felswyr State Salvages Season with Win over Staramara Tech

The score was 17-16 Firehawks midway through the Fourth Quarter. Nicole Estera had been good but not great, going 14-of-19 for 201 yards and one score so far, finding Ulrich Hammer in the back of the end zone. Staramara Tech had actually outgained the Firehawks, but the Firehawks' defense had managed to hold the Lava to three short Field Goals. They needed a drive now, though, to grow the lead, to run down the clock, and ultimately to save their season.

On third down and four from the Firehawks' forty-eight yard line, Nicole Estera could tell that the Lava were bringing extra pressure. Aurana Mikel, the all-world Outside Linebacker for Staramara Tech, was lined up next to the defensive line - and it looked like she wasn't going to drop into coverage. Estera pointed at Mikel and looked toward her newest Tight End, the Banijan transfer Mukasa Kigere. Mikel had been put on Kigere most of the game, which meant that Min Do-Han, the Safety, would be on Kigere instead. Min was known to be able to cover most Tight Ends, but not most Tight Ends were Kigere. Kigere nodded, and Estera decided to take on the extra blitzer.

She took the snap, and Mikel came bursting off the edge. Right before Mikel could knock Estera to the ground, she fired a midrange bullet to Kigere, who had run a crossing route - and the Banijan Tight End caught it in stride, Min not being able to keep up. Kigere split the secondary down the middle and took the ball all the way to the Lava twenty-three.

Four plays later, Muhoozi Kadindo carried the ball into the end zone to grow the lead to seven. JJ Garret tried his best, but the Firehawks' defense held firm. Felswyr State had escaped total disaster and limped to the Cross-Divisional stage with a 1-2 record.

Now, the goal is clear for both Chromatik schools - win all the cross-divisional games before getting revenge on the Drawkian schools. Silver Coast State College will prove to be a challenge, but the only way out is through.

Stat: Mantabolo Tech have scored more kick return TDs than rushing TDs this season…
Injury report

Zaire Bailey (DB) – Probable – Knee
Omari Benson (OL) – Questionable – Ankle
Zayvon Booker (RB) – Questionable – Knee
L.J. Carter (QB/RB) – Questionable – Wrist (non-throwing hand)
Tyrell Davis Jr. (DL) – Out (Season) – Knee
Javonte Durham (K) – Doubtful – Hamstring
Kwame Gillmore (LB) – Doubtful – Hamstring
Tavian Mills (RB) – Out (5 MDs) – Ankle
Rashad Muhammad (RB) – Probable – Thumb
Keyshawn Porter (QB) – Out (Season) – Shoulder
Khalil Rasheed (OL) – Probable – Hand
Mikkel Sanders (TE) – Out (3 MDs) – Knee
Jalen Stokes (WR) – Probable – Ribs
DeVaughn Washington (OL) – Doubtful – Shoulder
Tashawn Young (OL) – Doubtful – Concussion

In what was on paper Man-Tech’s easiest of their three divisional games in the first half of the season, it ended up a slugfest and took the offense 59 minutes and 35 seconds to score a touchdown. Tyriq Vaughn was just 19 of 36 for only 184 yards and Rashad Muhammad held to 39 yards before being knocked out of the game with a thumb injury. But after the Hustlers scored their second touchdown to take a 13–3 lead, Jalen Stokes ran back the kickoff 103 yards. Combined with LaMarcus Freeman’s effort earlier in the season, it marks the first time in the history of the program the team has registered two 100+ yard plays in a single season.

Stat: Nasir Muhammad is the only offensive lineman not to have picked up a single holding or false start penalty this season…

A little more history was made when D’Angelo Ellis and Dre’von Ellis combined for a tackle, stopping the running back for no gain. It was the first time in program history a tackle has been assisted by two brothers. (When they both got beat for a 40 yard completion to the tight end that may also have been a bit of history but we don’t really keep track of that.) The Rasheed brothers played every down on offense alongside each other on the line until Khalil (RG) left the game with a bruised hand. And the family affair kept going as brother and sister Jay’Vion Scott and Jamila Scott also played on the same play, though Jay’Vion couldn’t keep the defensive end out of his sister’s face as her PAT was blocked after Stokes’s runback.

Stat: Edge rusher Sincerity Matombo failed to record a single tackle, pressure, or QB hit in the game…

Vaughn finally put it together on the final drive of the game, though he fumbled the snap on what could have been the crucial play of the game, just managing to recover it ahead of the marauding pass rush. On the next play he threw a 13 yard pass to Rashaun Holloway-James for the go-ahead with 25 seconds remaining, and J’riq Bennett-Patterson then stormed through for a strip-sack, Marcellus Bryant IV recovering to end the game. Holloway-James, with 7 catches for 92 yards, was outstanding, but the offense struggled to gain momentum otherwise. Jaidon Blackwell Jr., with 10 tackles, Sai’f Collins, with an interception for 28 yards, 2 passes defended, 3 tackles and 1 tackle for loss, and Tariq Abdullah, who broke up 2 of the only 4 passes directed his way, led the defense.

Stat: 18 players have had at least 1 reception this season for the Golden Kings, but only 7 players have recorded a carry…

Muhammad should be able to play with a strapped thumb, but if he’s not available, the running back corps is looking a little light. Tavian Mills picked up a high ankle sprain that will set him out for most of the rest of the season, Zayvon Booker has a bursitis on his knee and will be a game-day decision, and fourth-string quarterback L.J. Carter hurt his hand taking snaps at running back in practise. That might mean more plays from scrimmage featuring LaMarcus Freeman, who’s mainly played special teams this season, or a first snap for Trayvon Harris.

Stat: Two of President Jackson-Banks’s wives attended Mantabolo Tech…

There will be some celebrity in the house for the home game against the Broncos, with Eighth Lady of the United States Adelaide Todd attending. She graduated from Mantabolo Tech last year and is a former member of the GoldKats, and will be in the stands cheering on the team.

Brooklyn Beck (S4:E2)

Postby Drawkland » Sun Dec 01, 2024 11:12 am

"The Rollercoaster Begins"

The circumstances don’t matter. Ending the domestic season with a backbreaking interception in the postseason? A million questions about your viability under center? It’s all irrelevant. Brooklyn Beck had to get back on the horse, because there was nobody else that could.

Of course, that horse didn’t arrive for a couple months. After another perfectly ordinary season of DOCA baseball for Sadeg State, Brooklyn had the time to clear her mind and cleanse her palette. By the time NSCF training camp began, the brutal end to the previous season was safely tucked away in the back of her mind. There was one thing on the forefront of Brooklyn’s mind, and she was going to address that in front of the entire team.

“Coach Manlio,” Brooklyn asked over the phone a day before camp was set to begin. “Do you mind if I address the team during our day one team meeting? I want to talk about our goals as a team for this NSCF season.”

Brand Manlio gave his approval, and Brooklyn would be cued in the next day. Brooklyn knew it would be a risky maneuver. There was still a portion of the team that believed her to be the sole blame for their loss against Cajel in the league championship game. Plenty of the upperclassmen still had beef with her, especially since they didn’t get the storybook ending to their senior season. If there was any saving grace, it was that they could have a satisfying sendoff with something good happening in the NSCF season. As Brooklyn stood at the front of the lecture hall in front of the entire roster, staff, and assistants, she could feel the silent pressure. It was almost more intimidating than facing down a hostile crowd in an opposing stadium.

“There is nowhere to go but forward.” Brooklyn started. She smoothed her resolve, and added a little more weight to her voice. “This NSCF season is a chance to make things right. We have the talent to make a run at a title, but so do a dozen other teams in this league. Our goal is always to win it all, but so much of that lies outside of our control. Making the playoffs is good, but it’s not good enough. Cavsar can do that, so it can’t be that impressive. This year, we have to focus on flipping the script. We WILL win the Horizon. For too long, we’ve been stuck playing third fiddle in the conference that should rightfully be ours. The Skyhawks haven’t won it since we were all in middle school. That has to change this season. I refuse to be a guaranteed win for those disgusting Chromatik schools. This is the year we change things back to the way they should be. This is the year they remember that we should be feared. Our offense has unlimited ability. Our defense knows how to stop elite units. We are a team that can win this conference, and it’s time that we make good on that potential. This year, the Horizon is OURS for the taking.”

It wasn’t exactly a standing ovation, but the team was engaged. Brooklyn was right. The Skyhawks had been glossed over for the entire tenure of every player on the roster. It was time for the rollercoaster ride to launch.

If the team didn’t believe in Brooklyn’s message after the first day of camp, they started believing after the first gameday. In front of an anxious crowd at Skyhawks Gridiron Park, the Skyhawks and Firehawks did battle for the eleventh time in conference play. It was looking to be a bona fide shootout after the first two drives, as Brooklyn Beck and Nicole Estera led their offenses for touchdowns in their first possessions. Then it was all Sadeg State.

Brooklyn led the team on a couple of field goal drives while the Skyhawk defense clamped down on Estera and the Firehawks, allowing only a single field goal in the second quarter. When Brooklyn tossed a touchdown to Kastor Armati with a couple minutes left in the second quarter, it made it a 20-10 lead. Estera got the ball back for a two minute drill that could keep the game close. Any score would keep it a one-score game at halftime, which would be absolutely necessary considering the fact that Sadeg State would be getting the ball after the half.

Disaster struck for Felswyr State on that drive. Near midfield with about a minute left on the clock, Zoe Muller got mauled off the line by Rickie Serrano. The Skyhawk defensive lineman powered through the block and ran into Estera’s blindside with the momentum of a pickup truck. Estera didn’t feel the pressure, and the force of Serrano’s hit jarred the ball loose. Fellow lineman Dominic Lister spotted the fumble and fell on it to turn the ball over. With just under a minute left, Brooklyn came back out and grabbed a first down on the ground with some help from Scott Fierro. Donald Jensen picked up his third field goal of the day as time expired in the second quarter. Instead of keeping the game within a score, Felswyr State was now trailing by two scores, 23-10.

The first drive of the second half effectively won the game for Sadeg State. Felswyr State had the chance to kill the momentum with a third-and-long around midfield, but Brooklyn broke off a 36-yard scamper after the pocket collapsed to get into the red zone. A few plays later, a pass found Jason Oberro in the end zone, and Sadeg State was running away with the ballgame 30-10. The Sadeg defense continued to play hard, as Felswyr State’s only trip to the red zone in the second half ended in a field goal thanks to a big third-down sack from Malone Tatton. Estera added a garbage time touchdown late in the fourth, but Sadeg State’s offense had remained productive and put up another 13 points to reach the final score of 43-20.

Felswyr State getting embarrassed in Week 1 is a sight not often seen, especially when coupled with Cavsar taking care of business against Staramara Tech. The league took notice. Were the Drawkian schools … back?

Perhaps they weren’t all the way back. The rollercoaster went up, but Brooklyn sent it back down. The 23-point blowout over the Firehawks was followed up by a 37-point loss to the Lava. Just as Felswyr State suffered a few key turnovers and getting “doubled up” before and after halftime in Week 1, so too did Sadeg State in Week 2. Brooklyn’s statline was a far cry from her near-perfect day the week prior. She turned the ball over 3 times (two picks and a lost fumble) and got sacked 8 times, Donald Jensen missed two field goals, and the running game just couldn’t get going enough to open up the passing game. The 54-17 scoreline was almost comical, but neutral Drawkian fans could take solace in Cavsar’s win over Felswyr State that same day.

The Skyhawk locker room did not take solace in that fact. It felt like momentum had been lost as soon as they’d gotten it. Not only did they have a big hole to overcome if things came down to tiebreakers with Staramara Tech, but Cavsar of all teams, Cavsar, were leading the Starlight Division. It felt like the big win over Felswyr State didn’t even happen. If you listened to Brooklyn during the pregame speech ahead of the Week 3 game against Cavsar, though, you’d think the loss against Staramara Tech never happened either.

“They think this is their year! They think their QB is a divine gift to the sport after two games! They think their defense is hot shit because they got two good stops! They think this is their conference now!” Brooklyn was pacing around in the center of a huddle on the Skyhawk sideline as the pregame programming continued on the field. “Well I’ve got news for them! It looks like they forgot who big brother is! It looks like they forgot who runs this place. They’re in for a RUDE awakening tonight! They’re in the belly of the beast now. We’re gonna be pounding ALL NIGHT, and when we get home tonight we’re gonna be on top of the best division in football. Because that’s WHO WE ARE.”

Nearly every pregame hype speech sounds like that of course, but Brooklyn’s words were markedly prophetic that day. It seemed the rollercoaster would be back on the upswing. The game may have been 10-11 in Cavsar’s favor after the first quarter featured a rushing touchdown from both QBs, but like the Felswyr State game, the Skyhawks would take off and not look back. The second quarter was a 17-point explosion by Sadeg State, highlighted by an 80-yard pick six from Gabe Benson late in the half. That defensive touchdown was effectively a 15-point swing in Sadeg State’s favor, and as they went into the locker room 27-11, the Skyhawks could taste blood in the air.

The “vaunted” Cavsar defense that kept Felswyr State at bay enough for a second-half comeback was silent in the third and fourth quarters. Brooklyn was reading them like a book, making good throws and gashing them on the ground when necessary. Scott Fierro also put up over 100 yards on the ground. It was a complete win, total domination, as Sadeg State put up more points to really salt the game away. Cavsar scored a couple touchdowns late in the fourth thanks to softer defense from State, but a 34-25 deficit with only five minutes to go wasn’t promising.

The final nail came when Brooklyn hit Dylan Copperfield on a hitch route which left Marcel Kroon in the dust. The 32-yard passing score was good to make it a 40-25 ballgame, but Brand Manlio wasn’t happy with just an extra point, and neither was Brooklyn. It was well known that the Skyhawks had disdain for Cavsar’s “always go for two” tactics, so they decided to go for two in garbage time just to add insult to injury. Unfortunately, Brooklyn’s read-option play to Scott Fierro didn’t work out, but Cavsar could get little enjoyment from a 15-point loss regardless.

Brooklyn’s speech was right. As she and the Skyhawk roster left the stadium after the game that night, they were 2-1, and atop the Starlight Division thanks to a +1 point differential and head-to-head advantage over 2-1 Cavsar. Soon it would be time to handle the Equinox leg of the schedule, but for that night, it was a celebration.

NSCF: C H A O S (Earth Trophy XV)

Postby TJUN-ia » Sun Dec 01, 2024 5:05 pm

Earth Trophy XV. It is that time again. Every season, TJUN-ian football loves to focus in on this game - the time where two schools can drop everything and focus exclusively on each other. This rivalry that we have developed on our shores has been nothing but brilliant since the Trent State Feathercaps were joined by the Green City Royal Eagles at the NSCF table...but for this edition of this battle, both teams are in desperation mode already. TSU, the defending champs of this trophy, was heading to the AU Zone at 1-1 and was hoping to push past the Niakursk disaster and continue on towards a potential division title. GCU was hosting this game after losing their openers and while there was certainly leeway since this was Ngimphiwe Cele's debut campaign, they needed a win here to give themselves some sort of confidence heading into the rest of Mineral play. Both teams needed this game...and The Palace expected chaos.

This game did end up being chaos...pure, unadulterated chaos. The first half ended up 21-20 as both QBs got three scores on the board (Esko Vakalinen for TSU, Bongekile Cele (twice) and Celiwe Cele for GCU) with the crucial miss coming from Colleen Fletcher Christian. But if that was chaos, what happened next was from the darkest corners of humanity. Both teams would get two more TDs, with two each via Daniela Alcoba and Yassan Namnganda, but both "Jenkins" and CFC would miss PATs to make it 34-33 GCU. In the latter stages, young Ngimphiwe Cele was tasked with leading a drive to victory to reclaim the Trophy...and down by down, she would climb her way across the field. Then, she made it to about 55-yards out of the uprights with 3 seconds to go - leaving CFC to try and kick a walk-off. Jackson Zbizu held it, CFC hit it true and just like that, pandemonium ensued. The crowd storm was certainly deserved. Both teams are now 1-2 but for GCU, they are greater among equals. The Earth Trophy is back in Green City.

Alexandria University Swordsmen

“Let’s fucking goooo!!!!”

A line for the history books from Nick Singer, the junior quarterback who just engineered the greatest victory in Alexandria University’s history. The man from Ranoria shined in the pocket as he brought the LeBois Broncos to their knees. He was dominant in the backfield as he completed all sorts of throws. Long shots, slicers through the middle of the field, dump offs to the running backs, it was brilliant to see further confirmation that he truly is an elite passing talent. Beyond that, it was surprising to see just how good he was on the ground as he had several designed runs go for big yards and he showed a great nose for the scramble to make something out of nothing.

“Let’s fucking go boys, that’s how you do it, that’s how we become legends!”

In the locker room the normally composed QB was going off, yelling, slapping backs, going over the good and quickly diagnosing what went wrong on certain plays…the energy was infectious.

They were Alexandria University, always an afterthought when it came to Cardenaoan ball and the Blue and Orange of LeBois that painted the land. But now? A 42-31 victory over BSU? Maybe this was the season things changed. Maybe this was the season AU was number 1.

High School Football MD3!!!

Skyview Mountain Academy Fliers 7-34 St. Bonaventura Gold and Blues

Players of the Game:

SKY: Senior DL B.J. McNutt 4 Solo, 1 Ast, 2 Sk
STB: Sophomore QB Thor Gundersson 299 PssYds, 3 PssTD, 1 INT, 37 RusYds, 1 RusTD

Kicking off the third week of action was a Skyview Fliers side hoping to go 2-1 on the season competing against a St. Bonaventura side chasing their first win of the season. Well…the Gold and Blues ended the first quarter ahead 14-0 and never looked back in a dominating performance. For the losing Skyview side, surely some alarm bells are blaring after this poor start to the season. Junior QB Taylor Fisher certainly tried to keep his team in it as he threw the ball 40 times but his 28 completions only amounted to 192 yards, an interception, and five sacks with one fumble. As expected WR Jonathan Lee was the target man on offense, the junior was thrown to 12 times but only pulled in five for 59 yards. Sophomore WR Charles Johnson caught all seven of his targets for 54 yards, meanwhile senior TE James McClellan was off to a hot start by catching both of his targets for 19 yards before he sprained his knee and was out of action. The run game was terrible, only 48 yards going on the day with senior RB Darren ‘Double D’ Dobbs leading the team with 30 yards on eight rushes. QB Taylor Fisher was second with 16 yards on four carries, but he gave away a fumble. Sophomore RB Alex Johansson had an interesting day…ten carries and a touchdown for 2 total yards. Not a great game for the Skyview offense. Not a great game for the Skyview defense either! Senior DL BJ McNutt put together a player of the game winning performance for his side with five total tackles including two sacks while fellow senior Guy Krah led the team with nine tackles. Junior S Larry Reese had six tackles but it was his interception he brought back for 35 yards that everyone will remember…and that he strained his hamstring doing so. Better luck next week for a Fliers team that simply needs to be better.

For the victorious St. Bonaventura, this was a pretty routine W, 14 points in the first quarter, 20 points in the fourth quarter, giving up 7 points in the second quarter, and it’s back to the showers for the Gold and Blues. Sophomore QB Thor Gundersson balled out a bit as he completed 19 of his 30 attempted passes for 299 yards and three touchdowns, though he did toss that INT that got returned for 35 yards. TE Ricardo Reed had himself a fun game as he caught 2/4 passes for 94 yards and a touchdown. Junior WR Tyshon Oliver caught 3 for 82 and a touchdown and WR James Lofton caught 7/10 for 55 yards and a touchdown. When it came to running the ball, senior RB Joey Royal was off to a sweet start as he ripped off 53 yards on 8 rushes before he sprained his wrist. RB/CB combo player DeColdest Carey sorta stepped up with 41 yards on 7 carries, but he did fumble the ball away. Thor Gundersson put up 33 yards including a 13 yard TD, finally junior WR Tyshon Oliver punched in a 3 yard touchdown to complete the rout. On the defensive side of the ball, it was a pair of seniors who led them with eight tackles each, S Roger Fleming and LB Julian Priester. Fellow senior LB Robert Ruffin had seven tackles and he recovered a fumble and returned it for 11 yards while CB/RB combo DeColdest Carey got himself an interception that he brought back nine yards. Not a very busy day for St. Bonaventura’s defense, they simply didn’t have all that much to do.

Alameda High School Desperados 12-35 Obyedako High Blue Devils

Players of the Game:

ALM: Senior LB Brandon Baker 6 Solo, 5 Ast, 1 Sk
OBY: Senior QB Raymund Fitzgerald 285 PssYds, 3 PssTD, 21 RusYds

Tough situation for the Alameda Desperados as their once promising pre-season has given way to a 0-3 reality. Junior QB Steve Borden continued his campaign to forget as he scraped to 18/31 completions for 156 yards, a fat zero touchdowns, and a fat two interceptions thrown. Got sacked four times for -25 yards too. Not great, really not great. You have to feel bad for Dakota Mitherali, the senior is one of the best receivers in the nation but he’s got 150 yards after three games, that’s the result of bad quarterbacking and bad coaching. Tonight was his best game of the season though, 65 yards as he caught 8 of 11 targets while sophomore TE Andrew Svensson, one of the most promising prospects at the position, caught 4 of 5 for 43 yards. Meanwhile, senior RB Brant Stephens caught 2 of 5 targets for 16 yards but he added 54 rushing yards and a 9 yard touchdown to go with it. Steve Borden did show some guts to go five times, but he only managed 15 yards. Leading the charge defensively was senior LB Brandon Baker, who combined six solo tackles with five assisted including a tackle for loss and a big ole sack on Raymund Fitzgerald. Junior CB Marcus Roberts showed good sense to pick up a fumble and bring it back for nine yards, then sophomore DL Charles Hand picked one up in the 4th quarter and brought it back eight yards. Not a lot going on either side of the ball for the Desperados, and they go into week 4 hoping for their first win.

For the victorious Obyedako Blue Devils, this is exactly the way you wanted to secure a 2-0 record. Quarterback Raymund Fiztgerald showed up and showed out today, the senior threw for 285 yards and three touchdowns on 17/25 passing and he added 21 rushing yards on 8 carries, though he was sacked one time for a -5 yard loss, leaving him with a halfway decent 145.8 QB Rating. Junior tight end Jeremiah Lewis had by far the best game of his career as he caught 6 of 7 targets to go for 136 yards and 60 yard and 36 yard touchdown passes. When it came to receiving, junior WR Jayson Williams showed some real nice hands to catch all four of his targets for 81 yards and a 58 yard house call. Senior WR Earl Gardner also caught all four of his targets, but he could only turn it into 42 yards without a score. Running the run game was senior RB D’Von Glover who led both teams with 75 yards on 13 carries, but truth be told it wasn’t his game. No, the headlines belonged to his senior RB partner Frankie Hayward who turned his eight carries into ‘only’ 28 yards and a pair of touchdowns to secure the win for the Blue Devils. A pretty straightforward affair for Obyedako High on offense, and the defense came ready to match it. Junior LB Brion Woods followed up an 8 tackle performance with a 12 tackle one that included two for losses. Fellow junior the safety Daryus Pegues who intercepted the only pass thrown his direction, this was a clean sweep for a Blue Devils team who is hoping to keep the magic running.

Mokuleia Island High Surfers 13-16 Academia Cardonia Golden Knights

Players of the Game:

MIH: Junior QB Akumo Manuwai 228 PssYds, 1 PssTD, 1 INT, 1 RusTD
ACK: Sophomore QB Charlie Slaughter 208 PssYds, 1 PssTD, 33 RusYds

What a game this was, what a victory for the Golden Knights! A scoreless first quarter led way to a pair of field goals in La Academia’s favor, then ten points in the third quarter before the Mokuleia Surfers woke up and put together a 13 point fourth quarter but it was too little, too late. For the Surfers, Akumo Manuwai had a decent day at the quarterback position, the junior completed 23 of 32 passes for 228 yards and an 11 yard touchdown toss, though Manuwai did throw an interception. Of course it was Joey Ma’afala leading the team in receiving yardage as the senior receiver caught six of his seven targets for 78 yards but it was junior WR Elston Washington who got the touchdown with his single catch of the game. Worryingly, senior star TE Kainao Savaiinaea was only targeted four times and he only caught one on a three yard loss. When it came to the run game, both QB Akumo Manuqai and WR Joey Ma’afala showed their versatility to lead the team in rushing with 34 and 30 yards respectively, with Akumo getting himself on the scoreboard with a five yard touchdown. The team’s actual running backs, senior Ka’hleel Makaio and junior Mathis Lahela, only managed to combine for seven yards. Not at all a good showing from a floundering Mokuleia offense. The defense wasn’t doing much better, sophomore LB Justin Nakanaelo led the team with seven tackles while his junior partner Sam Robertson got six and tackle for loss, including a nice forced fumble. Junior DL Claude Caravallo got three tackles, with two for losses. A bad loss, hopefully they can pick it up next week!

Foooor the victorious Golden Knights, this win brings them to 1-1 as sophomore QB Charlie Slaughter recorded the first victory of his career, and he played a big role in making it happen. Charlie completed 21 of 31 attempts for 208 yards and a touchdown, and he did well to avoid turning the ball over. Senior receiver Jack Caver went off as he caught ⅚ passes for 102 yards while junior TE saw the most targets on the team with 8 which he converted into 5 catches for 53 yards. The touchdown pass didn’t go to either of them though, it went to sophomore TE Jamie Davis who caught the sole pass TD on a nine yard buster. Senior RB Joe Duncan led the Golden Knights with 49 yards, leaving fans wishing for the days when Andrew Kun Wa Lee was leading the line while sophomore QB Charlie Slaughter ran for 33 yards in a surprising display of his dual-threat ability. Senior RB Ben Devine saw some early action with 4 carries for 9 yards and 3 targets but only one reception for five yards. Not a lot that went right in the Golden Knights offense, but at least kicker Cornelious Bannister went a perfect 3/3 from field goals and hit his extra point too to give his side the win. On the defensive side of the game, a trio of players led the effort with sophomore LB Ben Karr, junior S Chase Futrell, and senior LB Jeremy Ruff all recording 8 tackles each, though Ruff sprained his ankle partway through the third quarter and will be out for a few games. A good win for ACGK, will they be able to repeat it next week though? We’ll find out!

Ficilian Point High Seabirds 42-7 Hatathia High School Pirates

Players of the Game:

FPS: Junior QB Elijah Bartholomew 374 PssYds, 4 PssTD, 36 RusYds
HHP: Senior RB Antoine McNeely 38 RusYds, 1 RecTD, 1 FR

In an ultimately one-sided affair, the Ficilian Point Seabirds took on and obliterated the Hatathia High Pirates, 42-7. Elijah Bartholomew was the man keeping the show running as the junior QB completed 20 of 28 passes for 374 yards and not one, not two, not three, but four touchdown passes. Senior TE D.J. Hicks put in a commanding performance as he caught 6 of 8 passes for 122 yards including a 74 yard touchdown completion while junior RB Kelton Hutson caught one pass for a 96 yard house call, not bad! Following him was junior WR Kyle Vasey who caught three of his five targets for 56 yards and a touchdown, while sophomore WR Ricky Wadhams caught all five of his passes for 51 yards and a 27 yard touchdown pass. Finally, senior WR Eric Goss caught all four of his passes for 40 yards including a 21 yard long reception. Not satisfied with 374 passing yards, the Ficilian Point Seabirds also went for 99 rushing yards compared to 71 for the Pirates. Junior QB Elijah Bartholomew showed some real skill to lead his team with 36 rush yards while fellow junior RB Garett Flowers followed him up with 32 yards and a touchdown on eight carries, while another junior RB Kelton Hutson put up 30 and a touchdown on 10 carries. Two rushing touchdowns, four passing, this was a game where the Ficilian Point Seabirds were firing on all offensive cylinders. On defense, they kept the pressure up to limit the Hatathia Pirates to only 7 points with senior LB Darren Driscoll leading the charge with 12 combined tackles including a TFL and a sack as his buddy sophomore LB Dana Dalton followed up with ten tackles including one for a loss. Meanwhile, senior DL Logan Aguilar got two sacks with his six tackles and a defended pass, and freshman Ben Kinley turned in his best performance of the short season with a career high five tackles and a crazy interception he did well to pull in but he was quickly dropped for a -4 yard return. Great game for the Seabirds as the overcame a very mediocre looking Pirates side.

For the losing Hatathia High, this was not the way you wanted to play the game. Losing by 35 points is never a fun afternoon and you could clearly see that change in attitude among the players as the game progressed. I’m not normally one to point fingers, but senior QB Stan Aniol Dereschi is supposed to be one of the best players in the game but he could only fire his team to 173 yards, a touchdown, and an interception on 20/36 throwing. As expected, junior Will Vaughan was the receiver leading the charge with six catches for 78 yards on eight targets while senior TE Damarcus Koger only managed to pull in 2 of his 6 targets for 35 yards. The touchdown pass went to senior running back Antoine McNeely on a 10 yard reception on his second of three catches for a total of 15 yards. When it came to running that MF, it was Anoine McNeely leading the charge with 38 yards on 8 rushes, but he unfortunately fractured his wrist and will be missing some time. With AN88 going out of the game like that, someone had to handle the run game and surprisingly it was MR. SAD QB who did so as Stan Aniol Dereschi went for 27 yards on three rushes, while senior RB Rodrick Wiggins filled the box out with six yards on five runs. On defense, senior S Patrick Crawford led the unit with ten tackles and two for losses.

Glenelg Athletic Academy Dragons 30-27 Alexandria High School Red Raiders

Players of the Game:

GLN: Junior QB Anthony Simon 285 PssYds, 1 PssTD, 46 RusYds, 1 RusTD
ALX: Senior RB Ammon McCauley 62 RusYds, 2 RusTD, 65 RecYds, 1 RecTD

Perhaps the most exciting game to be found was the overtime thriller between the Glenelg Dragons and the Alexandria High Red Raiders, who were huge favorites for the game. The Dragons showed a lot of heart to weather the storm in the first quarter before both teams got their scoring staring in the second. Junio QB Anthony Simon was not afraid to sling the ball as he threw it 49 times for 32 completions and 285 yards and a single 12 yard touchdown to Sam Maynor. Sophomore WR Ezra Owens say the most targets with 13 passes thrown his way and he caught 7 for 78 yards. Senior TE Artur Ryouichi was on his heels with 75 yards on 7/9 receiving. As mentioned, the sole passing touchdown went to sophomore receiver Sam Maynor on one of his five catches for a total of 58 yards. When it came to rushing the ball, it was QB Anthony Simon who led his team with 46 yards and a 14 yard touchdown. Junior RB Larry Stukes was next up with 41 yards and a touchdown on 14 rushes, with senior RB Carter Hagen right behind him with 40 yards on 9 carries. It was a heroic effort from senior LB Maliek Davis as he recorded 17 total tackles including 10 solo and 4 for losses. The rest of the linebacker room as on fire too, senior Billy Morris and sophomore Barnold Toma had 8 tackles each. A key to victory was the defense’s active hands in the air; sophomore CB Arrington Young, junior CB Dylan Gwynn, and sophomore S Craig Wright all got interceptions. Special shoutout to junior kicker Darius Johnson who converted 3 of his 4 field goal attempts, including the 33 yard winner in OT.

For the Red Raiders, this was their first loss of the season and you know they wish they could run it back. Sophomore QB Johnny Pistola showed that, despite all the potential he’s shown, he’s still a work in progress. 20 of 30 passes for 229 yards and two touchdowns is good, 3 interceptions is bad. Senior RB Ammon McCauley led Alexandria High in receiving with 65 yards on 3 of 5 receiving, though a big chunk of that came on a 57 yard touchdown catch. Junior WR Christian Jeanpierre was targeted the most with 10 throws his way and he brought in 7 of them for 58 yards. Senior WR Corey Casimir caught his only pass of the day for a 29 yard touchdown play. Not content to just lead the time in receiving yards, Ammon McCauley led the Red Raiders with 62 rush yards and 2 and 1 yard touchdowns while QB Johnny Pistola showed some wheels to go for 18 yards on three carries. Looking at the D boys, senior LB Bradley Furman set the tempo with 14 combined tackles including a sack. Senior S Christian Kolar and junior LB Devin Singleton were eager to keep pace as they recorded 11 and 10 tackles respectively. A tough loss for Alexandria but hey, that’s high school football baby!

Escuela Nacíonal DCPF Footballers 27-34 Timberline High School Wolfpack

Players of the Game:

ESN: Senior QB Temuro Brown 263 PssYds, 3 PssTD, 1 INT
TIM: Senior QB Alec Hickman 369 PssYds, 1 PssTD, 1 RusTD

A highly entertaining game between the Footballers and the Timberline Wolves that saw 28 points scored in the 4th quarter. For La Escuela, senior QB Temuro Brown did his part to keep things ticking as he completed 25 of 42 passes for 263 yards and three touchdowns, though he did through an interception. Junior TE Chris Gilbert had the best game of his career as he caught 9 of 11 targets for 107 yards while fellow TE senior Jacob McMillan got 61 yards and a TD on 3 of 4 catches. Rounding out the scoring for the Footballers was senior WR Jonathan Jackson on a nine yard pass and freshman receiver Zach Brown caught his first career touchdown with a 5 yard catch in the third quarter. Senior RB Neiko Yemm got 12 receiving yards to go with 115 rushing yards on 15 carries. On defense, sophomore LB Frank Wingate had a career day as he recorded 11 solo tackles. Fellow sophomore LB Landry Stuart had ten tackles including two for losses while junior DL Garrett Tate recorded three sacks as he had his way with the offensive line. It was a tough loss for La Escuela, but they’re a safe bet to bounce back strong in their next game.

For the victorious Timberline Wolves, this brings them to 2-0 and builds their momentum as they head into a rivalry game against Riverstone next week. Senior QB Alex Hickman put in a commanding performance as he completed 30 of 39 attempts for 369 yards and a 19 yard touchdown throw, no turnovers but he was sacked thrice for -11 yards. He had seven receivers go for over 15 yards with senior WR Ryan Tully leading them all with 84 yards and a touchdown on 7 of 9 catching. Junior WR Rex Andrews had 77 yards on four catches while freshman RB Walker Laughlin impressed everyone with 50 yards on four receptions. He paired that with 20 rushing yards on five carries but it was senior RB Demitri LeCroix leading the charge with 59 yards and one and eight yard touchdowns. On defense, senior S Byron Jackson recorded ten tackles and a defended pass while fellow senior LB Chaz Allen had nine total tackles. Junior CB Adrian Davis got a nice interception for the Wolves with a leaping, fingertip effort to force the turnover. Next week it’s the Otters in a must win game…can Timberline keep the hot start running?

Treasure Valley Triceratops 6-31 J.C. Evermore Green Titans

Players of the Game:

TVT: Junior S Mark Jackson 7 Tackles, 1 Int, 1 PD
JCE: Junior QB James Ross 214 PssYds, 3 PssTD, 1 INT

The perfect start for the Treasure Valley Triceratops is over in emphatic fashion after a 31-6 drubbing with the ‘Tops getting their only score of the game with 2 minutes left in the fourth quarter. Mike Saxton had a mare of it, the junior QB only completed 13 passes for 121 yards, the aforementioned touchdown, and an interception. Oh, and he fumbled the ball twice as well. Not great, Mike, not great. Senior TE Demetrice Blasingame limped to 41 yards on three catches while junior WR Tyrell McClellan led the team with 48 on three receptions. Senior receiver Parish Jenkins’ only catch of the day was a two yard touchdown reception with 2:01 left in garbage time. The Triceratops couldn’t really get much going on the ground as their runners only put up 108 rushing yards. Junior RB Jahir Johnson led the team with 47 yards on seven rushes including a long of 13 yards that brought him to the 1 yard line, but the offense couldn’t punch it in and the field goal was blocked. Sophomore Antwuan Snow also had seven rushes but only put up 42 yards. Really not much more going on for the Triceratops, I mean this was really brutal on offense. Sophomore LB Don Veasley led his team with ten solo tackles while junior S Mark Jackson had seven combined tackles and an intercepted pass. Well, the dream of a perfect season is dead but playoff hopes are still very, very much alive.

For the victorious JC Green Titans, this was a commanding way to get their first victory of the season. Junior quarterback James Ross had a solid game, real solid as he hit 19 of 26 passes for 214 yards and three touchdowns, though he was unlucky to have a pass miraculously picked off by Mark Jackson. Senior WR Pokey Wilson got back on track after a poor 1 catch, 7 yard performance in his opening game as he put up 94 yards and a 15 yard touchdown as he caught eight of his ten targets. Freshman tight end Jai Rolle introduced himself to the league with a 44 yard and one touchdown performance on ⅚ catches. Scott Butler had a quieter night than he would’ve hoped for as the talented junior receiver only caught 2 of his 4 targets for 19 yards and a touchdown. Interestingly, Alaia Cain Wordsmith, the sophomore receiver from Chromatika, got her first action of the season as she caught both of her targets for 20 yards. Senior running back David Brown didn’t catch his sole target, but he did ok by running the ball 21 times for 137 yards and a 14 yard gut busting touchdown, the first 100 yard rushing performance this season. Sophomore backup-back Devin Miller handled the ball ten times for 41 yards, and freshman back Jesse Brandon got two looks for 15 yards. On defense for the Green Titans, sophomore LB Deon Dalu had a great game as he led his team with six tackles including two for losses, all solo work. Junior S Ben Passmore, senior LB Jay Kaxee, and junior LB Jameson Horan all had five tackles each. Meanwhile, junior CB Brain Thompson only made one tackle, but he did get an interception he returned for ten yards. Offense? Straightforward. Defense? Straightforward. Victory? Straightforward.

Northern Moravica beats Loyola-Istria by a final score of 40 to 36

NMU Head Coach Hannah McKendry after Practice during Loyola week, two days before the big game, in her office

Hannah McKendry was getting ready to unpack from that day's practice. It had been an intense practice- as they always are the week of the Loyola game. These rivalry games meant everything at Northern Moravica- not quite life or death, of course, but any perceptions about your job, or about how the fans feel about you, depended heavily on these games. Everyone knows about how Horace Browning, with 4 Celestia conference titles in 5 NSCF seasons, got fired because there was a perception that the program was unacceptably behind Loyola-Istria- who had two NSCF championships in that time period, compared to just a lone playoff win from NMU over that time period. Lance Kabuye, her father in love, got permanent adulation for ending that feeling by beating Loyola, on the road, in the playoffs in NSCF 19, ending their 36ish home game winning streak, en route to a NSCF title.

Now, it was Hannah McKendry's turn. Start of the year hadn't necessarily been kind to the Cougars. Struggling to a 13-7 win over Rosemount, an opponent who their division rivals had each put 40+ past? Not great. They were underdogs going into this matchup, and most predicted that they were firmly the third best team in the division, behind the Islamic University, and eternal rivals Loyola-Istria. But a game, a game like today, was a chance to change all of that. Loyola wins at your house- they are clearly the best team in the division. But pull out the win? And you've got momentum, and the fanbase, on your side.

So while game-planning, she had thought about a meeting she had yesterday, with her superstar TE, Horace Horton,in her office.

"Horace- how can I help you?" She had asked him. He had asked for the meeting.

"Coach, thanks for talkin'." He told her. "I wanna say- I think we aren't using me to the best of my ability." She simply nodded- it wasn't the first time someone wanted more of the football. But what came next, was rather curious. She told him to continue. "Look, coach- obviously, love this University, love this offense that we are building. But I think that we could be more explosive with the ball in my hands. In various ways. Of course, Wade and I are working all the time, timing on routes, etc... to get our connection going. But I'm sure you've seen my HS tape?" She nodded. "You've seen me at HB. You've seen me take carries. We've got a run heavy offense, which is a good thing. You've got to give me the ball in the backfield."

She looked at him. Of course she had seen his tape- electric at HB. But she wasn't sure that would translate well to the college level- it was one thing to play two positions, functionally, in HS, but in college? And in the NSCF? A whole different story. "You want to get carries? It's been over two years since you've taken a handoff, this is your third year at NMU."

"Last year I didn't bring it up because of the BS around my suspension- I only joined the team late in the season." He had told his head coach. "But now, you know- you've seen I can play tight end. Love blocking, I can run the routes, catch the passes. But you've got to get me the ball more- if we want our offense to explode."

McKendry had pondered what he had said, told him what he thought about it. She wasn't super high on the RB depth behind Maganda, their RB2- their RB3 & RB4 had struggled mightily in practices, and ergo weren't seeing the field in games. She then told him she'd give him reps that next day at practice- which was today. And hell... Despite it being over 2 years since he had a carry, he was actually a lot better in the HB slot than she thought. And she thought about it- while she wanted him at TE, he would functionally be the RB3. Wouldn't be bad to get him a carry or two- who knows what might happen?

Northern Moravica narrowly edge archrivals Loyola-Istria in spectacular 37th NSCF edition of the North v. South Showdown

Northern Moravica fans celebrate on the field after a sensational win over their hated rivals, Loyola-Istria

HERZEGOVINA CITY, MORAVICA- "It doesn't get any better than this- WE BEAT LOYOLA!" Wade Hurley yelled into a reporter's microphone after their game. The North v. South Showdown is one of the NSCF's most intense rivalries, and arguably the most intense natioal rivalry in this competition. The history is long, and the hate is real- this is a rivalry that absolutely has the capability of ruining someone's season. This edition is their 37th meeting all-time in NSCF competition, with NMU holding a slim 19-17 lead ever since their entry into this competition. Reputations gained, reputations lost, adulation grabbed, all left on the field. The Battle of Moravica began- who would triumph?

This was one of the wildest, wonkiest editions of this rivalry- rivalry week is known for bringing chaos, and indeed, chaos was wrought upon the cheering fans in red here in Herzegovina City. Sebowa Jawara stepped up first, and Loyola-Istria wanted to grab this game by the horns- take control and never let go. They felt as if they had a golden opportunity for a 3-0 start, one that would put them in pole position to win this division, and if they can do that- for bigger things down the line. They received the opening kickoff, and brought it out to their own 22 yard line. Then, they put together a succinct drive- 10 plays, 78 yards, ending with Cho Sang-Wook diving into the end zone on first and goal for a 2 yard TD run. An early 7-0 lead for the visitors in white.

And then, it seemed as if they would go from a good start, to a great start. On NMU's opening possesion, the much embattled QB, Wade Hurley, simply missed his target, an open Horace Horton, on 3rd and 9. The throw sailed into the arms of the waiting true freshman free safety, Ryan Leichard, who returned it to their 34 yard line. A brutal start for NMU- allowing a long TD drive, and then immediately turning it over. NMU fans were feeling fear- the boo birds came out for their starting QB, while Loyola thought they were going to go up two touchdowns early- and maybe start the romp. But that did not happen- despite being tired and backed up, the NMU defense stood tall, forcing a FG. Still, an early 10-0 lead for Loyola in this game, on the road-bad start for the hosts.

But at that point, the NMU offense started to find a rhthym. Wade Hurley shaking off those boos- and making big plays with both his arm and his legs. They converted two(!) 3rd & 13s on their ensuing drive- one, a 15 yard scramble by Wade Hurley, and the other, a 22 yard corner route to Halvor Moe- a strike thrown by the Ranorian QB. The drive ended in a 1 yard TD run by their powerful fullback, Horace Springhorn- who bulldozed through the Loyola LB to end up in the end zone. And after a three & out, the Cougars came right back down the field, feeling as if they'd fully taken control of the game. Offense grooving, Wade Hurley in a rhythym, and this time, finding Horace Horton in the back of the end zone for his second TD of the game. 10 game minutes before, they were in despair down 10- now, despite a missed PAT, NMU were up 3.

There was only one more TD scored in the first half- courtesy of the big play.

Banijan Commentator wrote:It's 2nd & 3 for Loyola at their own 46, and the crowd is really getting into it. The Cougars up 13-10, but of course, it's such a close game- and in this rivalry, there will be all sorts of lead changes. Jawara is looking out at the defense, and calling his audibles- and the ball is snapped. He sticks the ball out, and fakes the handoff to Jackson-Smith, who is going to block. NMU has brought quite a few rushers- looks like 7 rushers. But the blitz is picked up- and Arnas Rønning is running in behind the NMU defense, shaking off his CB! Jawara heaves one down the middle of the field... AND IT'S CAUGHT! He's WIDE open! The 10.. The 5.. AND IT'S A TOUCHDOWN! What a throw, what a play to shut this crowd up- the art of the big play!

What a throw, indeed, to give Loyola the lead. NMU would add a FG before the end of the half, as the Blue Thunder led by just 1 at the break, a score of 17-16. A tight one at halftime, and both teams knew that they needed to stay creative. "There's almost nothing to choose between us right now- it's a missed PAT that's all the difference in this game so far." McKendry told reporters going into the break. "We have to stay aggressive, we have to stay positive- this game is out there for the winning, and whenever we are playing Loyola, we are going to do whatever it takes to win this football game." And she was not kidding.

In the third quarter, NMU had another strong drive- sparked, of course, by a 22 yard pass to Ilman Jote, one of their senior WRs. Heavenworth had been getting a heavy dose all game- getting a lot of carries, trying to out-tough, and out-muscle, the Loyola defense. The RB2 Jimmy Maganda came in, and took a hard hit to the knee- enough to be knocked out for the game. A brutal injury- but creating depth issues for the Cougars. McKendry isn't exactly trusting of the depth at the position below Jimmy Magandá, and with him being knocked out of the game, who was going to spell Heavenworth? Well, on a 2nd & 2 at the Loyola 26 yard line, in came Horace Horton- the tight end- as the RB.

Remember, he was everywhere in HS. Star TE, WR, RB, etc... He was a star at more positions than he wasn't a star at. But to do so in college, jumping the RB4 & RB3? Unheard of. But, after the game, the position coach, Apollo Esther, said that this had been taked about during the week. "Horace came to us during the week, talked about how he wanted RB carries. We gave him a run during practice- he looked good, had college-level vision, which is the critical key. I worked directly with him a lot yesterday, talking about the differences between running the ball as a carrier and as a FB. We wanted to get him a carry or two today- not in these circumstances, but man, was he phenomenal."

And Horace Horton- well, he took hs opportuity and ran with it. 2nd & 2 from the 26. Lined up in what looked like an empty, heavy formation. WRs on the outside, two TEs right, and Springhorn, the FB, lined up as a TE on the left. Then, an audible- Springhorn lined up at FB, and Horton lined up as HB. Clear confusion from the Loyola defense- this ain't in the scouting report. Then, a simple HB dive- and Horton was explosive. Followed Springhorn for a first down, and spun past a LB at the 20 yard line. He bounced it outside with his speed, stiff-arming a Loyola safety on his way into the end zone for a 26 yard rushing touchdown, on the first carry of his career. Incredible stuff for the multi-talented athlete- the crowd chanted his name as they gave him his flowers for the stunning, electric TD run. NMU's offense not only had a pulse- they were explosive? Clearly so, as they took a 23-17 lead.

Despite that, the rest of the quarter was all Loyola. Jawara wasn't going to let Horton take all the praise for this game- not Horton, and certainly not Hurley. A 27 yard strike on a post route, to Jaxat Taa, re-took the lead for Loyola. And they forced their second turnover of the game- with Chad Vaughn getting the strip, and Loyola recovering. But for the second time with a short field, Loyola couldn't make the most of the gift, as they kicked a FG. So the visitors had a slim, 27-23 lead, heading into the fourth quarter. Fireworks? Guaranteed.

And they started early. Loyola forcing a three & out, and then Cho Sang-Wook having a 37 yard run, really kickstarted a drive- thought that, early in the fourth quarter, they were going to deliver a knockout blow. But that did not happen. The NMU defense stepped up big time, with their first turnover of the game- a strip sack of the QB, Jawara. And their offense, unlike Loyola's, maxed out their response to a short field. The drive was short, but the payoff was large- a 9 yard TD pass to Halvor Moe, to give the home team a 30-27 lead. And yet, the visitors would respond right back. Drive down the field, and then they would hit big on a screen pass- one to Jackson-Smith, the true freshman RB2, that he would take 33 yards for a TD. Under 8 minutes to go, 33-30 lead.

And when Loyola not only got a three & out, but a huge punt return that gave them field posiition at the NMU 40 yard line, well- many thought this one might be a wrap. But the Northern Moravica defense was bend, but don't break- allowing a first down, yes, but no more, as the Blue Thunder had to very bitterly settle for a FG. 36-30, to Loyola- NMU would have a chance to win it. In the hands of Wade Hurley- could he get it done? Could he be the hero? The answer was, no- not yet, anyways. He got them some of the way down the field, and then the drive stalled when he missed an open Horace Horton, on third & long. They had to kick a long FG, and trust their defense- something they did successfully.

But trusting their defense worked. On 3rd & 4, Jawara ran a read-option and kept the ball- only to be brought down by Rostyslav Illich Kysil in the backfield for a 2 yard loss. Massive stop- and the Cougars took advantage. They chipped away at the Loyola defense, even converting a 4th & 4 at the 50 yard line with a 9 yard pass to TE Horace Horton, where the star TE made an incredible one-handed catch, while basically in double coverage. But the play of the drive, was the payoff- coming at the end.

NMU radio Commentator wrote:There's 52 seconds left in this game, and the Cougars have a first & 10 here at the Loyola 22 yard line. Down 3, they are in field goal range, yes- but obviously, they would love to score a touchdown here. The anticipation is high- a lot of pressure, on a lot of players, to get the job done. Hell of a game by so many players. Horace Horton, apparently, serving as the team's RB2, has been excellent- 5 carries for 44 yards, including a 26 yard TD run on his first carry. Wade Hurley, after a pick on his opening drive, has thrown the ball with precision- dicing and slicing this Blue Thunder defense. NMU's offense, which scored 13 points in each of their first two games, has exploded- but will it be enough? Can it please be enough to beat the mortal enemy from Istria?

Hurley is lined up in the Gun. Two WRs right, with one left. Horton, the TE, is on the left side of the line of scrimmage, while Heavenworth is in the backfield. Hurley is barking signals at the O-Line. He backs up, and the ball is snapped. He pumps middle towards Jote, and throws it to the corner of the end zone where Horton is 1 on 1.. AND IT'S CAUGHT! AND IT'S CAUGHT! THE TIGHT END BRINGS IT IN- A PERFECT TOUCH PASS TO THE CORNER FROM WADE HURLEY, AND A TOUCHDOWN FOR NORTHERN MORAVICA WITH UNDER A MINUTE TO GO! STUNNING, THUNDEROUS- WE'VE GOT A CHANCE TO BEAT LOYOLA!

Tremendous throw- poise in the pocket, looked off the safety, and threw it to the corner- and whenever Horton is one on one with a LB, they don't have a shot in the world. He brought it in, got that foot in bounds, and now is celebrating his 22 yard TD reception- his second TD catch of the game, and 3rd overall. What a play!

What a play, indeed, On the first play from scrimmage for Loyola, the NMU defense ended it, with Teuslander nickel back Lukas Ramsauer intercepting Sebowa Jawara to call game. Final score- NMU 40, Loyola 36. Field storming. Redemption for Wade Hurley. "There's a lot to be said about this one." Hannah McKendry said amidst the chaos of the field storming. "But there is one thing that must be said- and that is, that we are back. If you wanted to get in your licks, you better have already done so- this W against Loyola has showed the world that we are a force to be reckoned with, once again, and damnit- we are the best team in Moravica, we are the best team in the country- and we are the class of the Celestia. We look forward to proving that this season."

Wild, chaotic victory. And the emotions were on the faces of all. Hurley, crying tears of joy- considering he got booed early on in the game, fans carrying him off the field as a hero, for leading the game-winning two minute drill, what an emotional roller coaster. Dennis Zervos, the HC on the other sideline, devastated- all their goals are obviously in front of them, but what a chance this was to take clear control of the division. And send a message that Loyola is the best in the division, the class of the conference, and a NSCF title contender. He could not do that today- although, he will have more opportunities. But losing to your bitter rival, well, is rough.

Both of these Banijan schools will recover from this emotional high, with a home game. Loyola-Istria will have a tricky matchup against Steicesve Strava(1-2), in the 3:30 time slot. While NMU will be in the noon time slot, against Osenku U. Those two schools have given the Quebecois schools trouble- with Steicesve Strava narrowly falling in a 37-34 shootout with Saguenay, while Osenku had a shock, 7-3 upset victory over USC to start the season. Nothing comes easy- but at home, both Banijan schools will be favorites, and bitterly disappointed if they fall. The real big games will start in Week 5- when the Banijan and Quebcois schools play each other.

Everything has a first, and it by all means felt special for Sara Lee Hampton after her Saguenay Fighting Irish had secured a valuable, third-matchday win over their longtime foes St. Croix at home after six tries.

Of course, six consecutive losses to the Bleu et Blanc, in doing so squandering the Sequoia Division and thus a chance at the Sequoia Conference, were brutal in their own. But the way it had amplified over time, even as they had won a Tiger Bowl and two NY6 bowl titles on her five seasons as the Fighting Irish coach, had made it worse. In the previous years as Saguenay offensive coordinator, she hadn't felt particularly nervous or even conscious about the Crescent Crossfire, and even in the first two time around she hadn't felt that much of a pressure. Both schools, after all, had more important rivals going back decades in the QIS level. On one hand the Fighting Irish considered St-GR Wolverines, Queen's College Golden Gaels, and most importantly the USM Trojans to be the enemies, with St. Croix coming afterwards, while St. Croix always played Songak Metropolitan at the final week of the year in the Silver Bowl competition that would frequently pit those two, as well as having more recent ones with Banbh Dinosaurs or Keewatinook Huskies on the farther reaches of the country.

But the pressure did mount up over time, and as every single loss mounted in both close losses and blowouts [both were plentiful], questions were asked about Hampton's ability to play against critical oppositions. Now, it wasn't as if the Bleu et Blanc were that much better than the Fighting Irish either - both were comfortably on 'quarterfinals and out' territory for most of the recent seasons - and they were still very much competitive to win a playoff game or two. This seemed to have worked out fine for the fans in South Bend compared to their Joongyeongite counterparts who have seen the Bleu et Blanc make back-to-back championship games many decades ago, and they did beat the Bleu et Blanc once during QIS season, a 32-10 victory at home no less. Still, six consecutive spring ball losses were too much to ignore, and something had to be done about it.

Her start to the NSCF's spring ball season has gone less than ideal, though it wasn't exactly a bad one. The first match, a three-point victory over Steicesve Strava at home, went as awful of a home game as most fans could have imagined as the Irish, who were leading 27-7 up to the middle of third quarter, had almost allowed a comeback by the Schachland side whose players and media's command of lingua franca seemed robotic at best, and only did a timely interception by Noel-Stephane Trintignant put the end to what could have been a disastrous start of the season for the Irish faithful. Naturally, the fans reacted to the final whistle with a massive round of boos, as fans started throwing debris onto the field, and several spectators being removed from the stadium premise for their lack of tact. Good lord.

The following week had gone mostly fine, as the Irish came out with a ten-point lead against Osenku University's non-descriptive squad and grinded their way out to a straightforward win. The life seemed to have calmed down on the historic campus in South Bend, even though Hampton knew that she wanted to make a statement heading into the match, as she hoped to calm down the wave of discontentment, at least for the time being, with the Crescent Crossfire win over the Bleu et Blanc. 'There will be no seventh loss, I will not allow that,' said Hampton, in a surprisingly high pitch for the Chromatik coach known to not sparing many words out in the public. 'It is true that we haven't played up to the level of expectations, that's very much true.'

She then continued. 'But we have also beaten them before. It was only two years ago that we've beaten them here in South Bend, a single blow that would take a hit to Soakai's Tiger Bowl chances that year,' she added. 'And I don't see why we can't do that this year - they have no McKendry, Soakai's not on the sidelines, and I ain't afraid of Kirby Wright who's shown no reason why we should be worried about him.'

'Those are some strong words here, Coach Hampton,' said the local radio host, as he tried to slow down the tempo of their talk. 'So you would think that this is the moment the losing streak will be over.'

'Precisely,' Hampton answered, giving an additional glee that had not been seen in years. 'I assure you that we will win, and that we are ready to get back to them with a punch on their mouth.'

It was perhaps with this sense of optimism that the Fighting Irish had come to Stade St. Croix with a renewed sense of confidence that had not been seen in them in half a decade. The upperclassmen hadn't forgotten about how on the final matchday of the conference slate two years ago, Saguenay appeared to be comfortably in course to win the Sequoia divisional title. At least until they got whooped 20-52 away in Stade St. Croix. The 32-point beating was the one where the Bleu et Blanc seemed to have control from the beginning as they led early with back-to-back pick sixes to come out with a 35-3 lead by halftime. Eventually their levees broke and Saguenay added a couple of touchdowns in the end, but those were all but late-game consolations for a match that had gone every bit catastrophic.

Fortunately they weren't ready to make the same mistake this time by coming out on hot against the Bleu et Blanc. It was a match that Saguenay had to fight uphill, especially as they had started with Dominic Kanyinda fumbling on their own 3-yard line, but they have made up for it by starting off on a lead thanks to a Santos dumping it to his favourite target, fellow graduate Kieran Kweon-McNair, for a 81-yad touchdown to give the Irish a 10-3 lead. This would prove to be crucial, as the rest of the match would end up a back-and-forth affair with neither seemingly finding much rhythm on defence, and when the game would end with Marina Escudero missing what could have been a game-winning 54-yard field goal in the dying seconds, they had come out a winner of the game, 24-22, to settle the scores at last.

Of course, it was anything but pretty with 11 sacks, 5 fumbles and 3 interceptions combined for the two squads. Both squads seemed to have come out with their defences on fire, while their offences, outside of an occasional breakout play or two, seemed to struggle finding consistent enough of a rhythm. This was something that both squads had issues with in the earlier games, with the Irish seemingly having an upper hand over the Bleu et Blanc on the matter, and that's something that Hampton and the Irish squad will have to figure out in coming days, especially with their trip to the southwestern Arrosia coming ahead.

That said, for now, Hampton seemed more happy than anything else that the dreaded streak was over.

There was some confusion in Raynor City last week when the Rockets were preparing to host the Raiders in the first game in the Battle for the Royal Sabre against Mar Sara Tech, the Raiders being their biggest rival in the sport as it stands. However the day before the team was set to host the game, they were informed by an official from the NSCF that they had been handed an incorrect schedule, a holdover from the last NSCF season, and instead were meant to travel to Mar Sara in week three to take on the Raiders, something their competitors had learned early in the week but failed to disclose to the Rockets. Perhaps it was a bit of mind games to try and mess with the heads of Raynor or maybe they believed that the administration would be alerted to the error in the schedule at the same time that they had, but whatever the case the entire week the team had been preparing to host the game in Raynor City and instead had to rapidly organize an away trip to Mar Sara for the team as well as handle the fallout of having to refund tickets. It would be the start of a very long weekend for the administration of Raynor and it was not going to be any easier for the Rockets on the field either.

Miraculously the staff was able to charter a train to the Mar Sara and get the team lodging booked, arriving nearly at eleven at night at their hotel for what was supposed to be a noon kickoff the following the day. The lack of rest and just the general chaos of the scheduling mishap was apparent on the staff as well as the players at warm up, where the team looked tired and sluggish. The Raiders on the other hand looked quite crisp and refreshed, roaring and ready to take on the big rival and the favorites to win the conference after the Raiders had gone into Anthor and laid a spectacular egg a week after the Rockets had won quite comfortably at Anthor. Maybe that little bit of jealously and the humble pie that the team had had to endure during the week had played a part in the powers that be at Tech from failing to inform the staff at Raynor about the scheduling, but even if it was not the motivator factor, it certainly did not provide motive to want to give Raynor an even playing field. If the Raiders were going to win, they knew that they had to play up every advantage that they could muster and if their foes were a little tired from a late trip, then so be it.

That sloppiness in the warm up drills for the Rockets continued into the game after the kick off and it was a struggle for the team to do anything right, the fact that they managed three scoring drives coming in as a minor miracle for how poorly the team had played. Odin Sorbo would finish eighteen from thirty-two and a hundred sixty-five yards with two touchdowns but also an interception that was a pick six to start the second half. That score gave the Raiders a thirty-one to fourteen lead that they were able to see out the rest of the game with, driving for another two field goals and touchdown with three of their five second half possessions, running twelve straight running players with getting the ball back with five minutes to go to see out the game. It was an ugly showing for the Rockets and like the Raiders the prior week, it will be an away trip that they are going to want to quickly wipe away from their memory and just move on to the next game as soon as possible. The team knows that they are capable of far better play than what they had been able put to the field in Mar Sara, but the extinuiating circumstances definitely played a role, something the Rockets wont soon forget.

Both teams now hit to the road and try to improve upon some shaky road performances in both of their last road showings, which will prove a big factor once both of the teams do hit the out of conference portion of their schedule with some difficult away games on the docket, even if the in conference road games on paper seem a little bit easier to weather for the two blue bloods. The Rockets first chance at road redemption will send them to a once feared place in Poafmersia to take on the Maximus Rochester Institute. However unlike Macondas, MRI has not had a great record against the Vanorian schools and with Poafmersia schools seemingly in second season in a row of being in a bit of a funk, it will definitely be conditions which should see the Rockets be able to play the way that they would like. Getting Odin in a rhythm early is going to be a key for the team as they look to shake off the poor game of the previous week and so expect to maybe see some quick slants, screens, or some RPOs to start out the game and give Odin some easy throws. Once the gunslinger is feeling it, the playbook likely opens as well as the opportunity to throw in a few draws or zone reads for Tobias in the backfield in what should hopefully be a breakout week for the Rockets offense against a statistical weak defense.

The Raiders will look to keep in good form after their thrashing of the Rockets in their own trip to Poafmersia, but unlike their countrymen, the team is getting the far more scarier outfit of the University of Mancodas. Up until last season the Mancodas were a blight upon Vanorian schools in the Zephyr, regularly defeating both teams during the cross-divisional play and then again in the championship games, leading to some calling the team the bogey team of Vanorians. Yet that seemed to have been lifted last season when both sides were able to finally taste triumph against the Mancodas and then steal away the conference championship away from them as well. Starting two and one, the same record as both Raynor as well as Mar Sara Tech, the Mancodas could be on the verge of getting back into the mix of things or hopefully for the Raiders merely showing that the Legends division is a bit of a mess and weaker than the Celestial. The Raiders balanced offense can present a challenge for the otherwise decent defense of the Mancodas, but can Tech avoid a defensive meltdown like they had in Anthor to let the talent in their skill positions make all the difference?

Richardson University

"No, mama, I'm taking plenty of time to study, I just have to go to the training staff, too." Jack Archer groaned as he walked towards the athletic department's headquarters. "No, it's a whole hassle to get in. You've gotta fill out this spreadsheet and "request" a time of an hour in advance minimum. But I squeezed one in. Only a couple other people in there. Walking in now, gotta go"

Author's Note: He was not, in fact, taking enough time to study.

Jack speedwalked to make it to the training room - sure, he could've run to make it on time, but then he'd have been winded and they'd know he was running late. This way, he looked like he was just a chill guy running a minute behind.

And when he got in, he was greeted by the football's team's star on offense and a girl everyone on campus had already heard of - and not just because of her prospective superstar brother.

Starting running back Malik Starcevich and the problem.

Janet Banka - twin sister of backup quarterback Dex Banka - were on adjascent training tables. Janet nothing crazy, just a heating pad and some stim units, back-to-back-to-back Northeastern Conference player of the week awards will do that to ya. He could run for two hundred yards in three straight games and never say that, being in the NSCF.

Malik? Oh, not so hot, and his laughter was cut short with a puzzled look as he turned - as much as he could with cryo sleeves on his legs and three total stim units hooked up to him - to look at Jack.

"Jack? What're you doing in here? You got like, two carries last week."

"Uh," Jack started, glanced at Janet, back to Malik, and his mouth opened a couple times. Now you might be asking, why is Janet Banka a problem? It's not her in particular, Jack is just terrified of women in general. That's half the reason he rides a motorcycle and practices parkour in his spare time - he can run away faster!

He pointed at the opposing appendage before the word finally manifested, "Shoulder?"

"Oh that's right," Malik chuckled, "You jacked that thing up on your bike. That'll do it."

Jack did his best not to look over Janet, waiting for the trainer to come save him, but she introduced herself first.

"I'm Janet," she waved, "Nice to meet you. Gotta ask," She paused for just a second to confirm, then dropped the hammer. "Did he say you play running back?"

Jack nodded, praying to all that is good it came off as nonchalant when he was actually panicking.

"Weird. You've got kind of a 'train 'til minor discomfort' physique if you know what I'm saying."

Now, that's a tough one to come back from. Tougher when you've managed one word in the last minute - fortunately, a savior arrived just then in the form of a trainer to the weight room for his rehab.

"Jack?"

His vision darted over to the trainer, and he waved, "Yep, that's me!"

"We're ready for you."

Jays best Roane State, start an unprecedented 3-0

Saying "starting 3-0 for the first time in school history" isn't exactly something you want to be doing in year 4, but here we are. If anything, it provides an answer to the question posed last time, of "is Roane State a sleeping giant or are the Jays just THAT good", by replying with both. UCP has a point differential of +50, which is absolutely insane for week 3, at least in a Jays context. At this time in NSCFs 29,30, and 31, the Jays had a PD of -35, -18, and +25 respectively. NSCF 32 UCP absolutely blows every other season out of the water in terms of point differential, doubling 31's, almost tripling 30's, and nearly quadrupling 29's.

It's not hard to figure out why this squad is doing well either. It turns out, Craig Kelly can't sell the game if the offense just isn't the unit that scores. Mario Joseph, for the second consecutive week, has taken a punt/kick to the house. That is NOT normal behavior, but who knows what kind of fight-or-flight responses are activated when the players see how Kelly calls plays. Either way, Joseph, teaming up with Atkinson's 2 more touchdowns in the pile of 8 all-purpose TDs for him, led the consistent like never-before Jays to beat the Red Pandas by 2 scores. That's not exactly sleeping giant behavior, but it just goes to show how absolutely lethal the UC-Prairie offense is when Craig Kelly is taken out of the equation.

Week 4 is where we enter the inter-conference play schedule, starting @ 1-2 Kormania to try to keep the perfect season alive at 4-0. While they may seem like an easy target, like Roane State, ANYONE could become a trap game when you're at the top of the pile, so executing the fundamentals will be as important as ever. As Craig Kelly always preaches, the guys who win the individual battles are the guys who will make the plays, so we'll just have to see how it works out for them and how it unfolds.

====Scoring Summary====
First Quarter
UCP TD - 12:23 - QB Jerry Atkinson 13 yards to WR Dante Conner for a TOUCHDOWN. PAT IS GOOD. 7-0
RST TD - 6:39 - RB Kai McKown 17 yards for a TOUCHDOWN. 2-PT IS GOOD. 7-8

Second Quarter
UCP TD - 2:24 - RB Alex Reynolds 2 yards for a TOUCHDOWN. 2-PT IS GOOD. 15-8

Third Quarter
RST TD - 11:30 - QB Anthony Thierfelder 4 yards for a TOUCHDOWN. 2-PT IS GOOD. 15-16
UCP TD - 3:29 - PR Mario Joseph 78 yards for a TOUCHDOWN. 2-PT IS GOOD. 23-16

Fourth Quarter
UCP TD - 9:52 - QB Jerry Atkinson 31 yards to WR Kabe Heaton for a TOUCHDOWN. PAT IS GOOD. 30-16

Close Call
2 Points. We were 2 points away from losing our difficultly earned, precious Winstreak. If it wasn't for a last-minute touchdown by Malone, we would have been obliterated.
Niakursk University (IMP) 20–19 Roane State University (KNP)

This should be considered a warning that hard times against very strong offensive opponents are to come. The last-minute TD is the reason why you don't celebrate your win too early. Next match against Nowa Kalanianska will surely be... Let's say surprising!

Phoenixes narrow loss in first cross conference game, 20-16
By the Phoenixes Sports Desk, Vaelis Brightsong

In an intense and gritty matchup that showcased outstanding defensive efforts from both teams the game, filled with momentum shifts, was ultimately decided by timely plays in both the passing and defensive fronts as the Lava managed to secure another victory leaving the Phoenixes reeling after another loss on the road.

From the first whistle it was clear that this was two defensive match ups and it would take a moment of genius or brilliance to unlock the game in either teams favour. The Phoenixes coming out the gates hard putting pressure on Lavas quarterback JJ, forcing him to scramble multiple times to avoid the pressure from defensive ends Ironheart and Cloverleaf. Then receiving the same pressure from Lava Linebacker Mikel, stymieing Stormhearts rhythm, the Phoenixes struggled to get any passing game going.

Despite the defensive pressure on both teams there was opportunities for the Phoenixes to make some field goals, the reliable Duskblade converting two attempts, from 45 and 39 yards putting the Phoenixes up 6-0 in the first quarter, somewhat surprisingly against such an established team but the fans were enjoying themselves. The second quarter a near perfect mirror as the Lava offense capitalised on some mistakes from the Phoenixes to gain field position to kick 47 and 42 yard field goals to draw level, 6-6.

The second half kicked off with an intense exchange of turnovers which set the tone of the half and practically decided the game. Early in the quarter Stormheart found a rare opening in the Lava defence connecting with wide receiver Goldenwing on a 34 yard pass play to move into Lava territory however the drive stalled after a key sack from Mikel on the third down forced a punt back to the Lava. The Lava responded with a lot more success than their opponents with JJ finding wide receiver Gyles in the open for a 16 yard gain that set up Lavas first touchdown of the game. A play action call by JJ led to a 12 yard touchdown pass to tight end Myst, an impressive diving catch despite the valiant coverage from the Phoenixes safety Eagleeye. Lithrelir not to go down without a fight came out swinging, a 48 yard kick return by Hearthsong set up excellent field position, a combination of quick slants and runs set the Phoenixes marching down the field until, at the 3 yard line, Stormheart found Leopardfoot in the corner of the endzone for a touchdown…. or so they thought as the flags came flying and after an agonisingly long conversation between the officials Leopardfoot was deemed not to have grounded their feet, a couple of penalties . The fourth down attempt, as the Phoenixes go for it, saw running back Bearclaw bundle through the line just enough to break the plane, according to the officials who could definitely see into the melee of players! The extra point from Duskblade sees the Phoenixes bite into the Lavas lead, 13-13. Entering into the fourth quarter and the phoenixes defence, having endured so much this game, started to unravel with relentless pressure from the Lava saw JJ linking up with his receivers and backs as they powered through an uncharacteristically poor Phoenixes defence, clearly missing Nightingale who was having a well earned breather, as they ran in for another touchdown to take the lead to 20-13. Time ticking on Stormheart manages to lead the team to the 25 yard line with less than 5 minutes on the clock, three missed receptions and Windrider decides to kick, Duskblade putting another 3 points on the board, 20-16. The Lava using all the clock on each of their plays running down the time remaining were held by the Phoenixes, key plays by Nightingale to force the turnover. Stormheart with a couple of big throws and one incredible reception from Goldenwing put the Phoenixes into the red zone, less than a minute to play and Stormheart pressured by the blitzing Lava looks to find an open Goldenwing but an interception effectively end the game.

A disappointing end for the Phoenixes after such a strong performance against a team who on paper would be much more superior. The Lavas ability to make key plays when needed proved to be the difference and despite Lithrelirs resilience the turnovers proved to be costly.

Back on home soil next week against Cavsar University who currently sit top of the Starlight division this may be the hardest game of the Phoenixes season and will require a big voice from the fans. Stay tuned, as this team is ready to soar once more.

Felswyr State's Offensive Shift

Felswyr State University has had an interesting history with the Running Back position. The first iteration of the team didn't use one at all - and Sarai Gwenderyn led an offense featuring only passes, end-arounds, and Quarterback runs to the NSCF title game. As the Chromatik understanding of gridiron grew, they started to use Running Backs more and more - until Sydney Thomas and Anne Holmes started being used to complement the passing game more and more in recent seasons. Part of this is also due to the lack of the bona fide #1 receiver in recent seasons for Chromatika, as it's proven to be difficult to find receivers as talented as Alessandra Mio. Having a quarterback with a rocket arm like Gwenderyn and a speedy deep threat like Mio may have been the catalyst to the lack of a running game in the beginning, and the changing of personnel has led to the usage of more running plays in recent seasons.

This has also had a profound effect on how the Firehawks are recruiting for offensive linemen. For the first few seasons, they only focused on linemen that could protect the passer. It was all about letting Gwenderyn have as much time as possible to find the open target and get rid of the football. The Firehawks had immense pride in the fact that the opponent would know that they are throwing all the time but could do nothing to fix it. As more and more tape started to be left behind to be studied by the opposition, the Firehawks also had to adapt - and they started to become more and more standardized, albeit with a slight Firehawk twist.

Now, Felswyr State still utilizes wideouts in a way that most universities don't - but the lack of talent in the position has actually led to the usage of two tight ends in their base formation. This also allows for the Firehawks to run the ball even more effectively - and with the two-back system with Muhoozi Kadindo and Mack Mason, it's starting to work. As it turns out, Nicole Estera is far more effective when she has the option to throw off of play-action, and you can't really sell play-action if you can't run the ball.

Case in point - the 23-3 win over Gerthos State. Yes, the defense played well in only giving up 201 yards of total offense and letting the visitors cross midfield just once, resulting in their only field goal. However, they did not cause any turnovers, and the offense managed to get five scoring drives. Kadindo had 125 yards on 18 carries, and Mason added 81 yards on 10 carries as the Firehawks racked up 240 yards on the ground, a school record. This let Nicole Estera have a day of going 13 of 15 for 191 yards and a touchdown and not have to carry the team.

A balanced team is a dangerous one, and the emergence of this part of the Firehawks may prove to be the piece that they needed to return back to prominence. They no longer have the alpha receiver nor the superstar quarterback, so the focus on the running game to complement their team is exactly what they need to do. It's taken four weeks to get to this point, but the best of the Firehawks is still waiting to be grasped.

The Emergence of the Lava Wall

Lennard Thompson. Sveinung Stang. Kathryn Behera. Armen LeFonde. Solomon Seyewanek. Paul Grayson. Jeremiah Stone. William Bosfort. Three Juniors, two Sophomores, and three Freshmen. Eight players that make up the Lava Wall - the name given to Staramara Tech's defensive line. Constantly rotating to keep the players fresh, the Lava have utilized all eight of them - nobody has gotten more than 33% of the snaps. Thompson leads the way currently with six sacks on the young season, while Seyewanek has the most tackles for loss with five. They have combined for eleven sacks already, and with the inexperience in the back end, they've had to be the ones to provide pressure.

Not since the days of Felswyr State having a ridiculous secondary has a Chromatik school had as much talent in one position group of their defense. They'll play each with each other for at least two years before the three Juniors graduate - meaning that they'll continue to gel together and get fine tuned to become the best unit that they can be.

How far can that carry this defense? How will that set up JJ and the offense? Will they be able to catch the Drawkian schools? This is a prove-it year for Staramara Tech - they need to make the Playoffs, and win at least one game before JJ Garret calls it quits. To waste a Ranorian talent like him and not get back deep in the playoffs would be a shame.

Perhaps, this Lava Wall will get the job done.

Nowa Kalanianska wins on the road!

Notts, NAU Zone, TJUN-ia - On matchday 4, both Nova Calanian universities played away in TJUN-ia and while Nova Calanians hoped for a win by Université nationale de Saint-Jean-Jacques in Green City, it's Uniwersytet Nowa Kalanianska who surprised everyone by winning 27-23 against Trent State University. Coach Mieczyslaw Raczkiewicz was unsatisfied with Agnieszka Wilczak's performance in the last three games and he decided to give the start to Carter McElhaney, a freshman from Burnham-on-Stove. Trent State started off with the ball in the 1st quarter and "Jenkins" made a 38 yards field goal on their 1st drive to take a 3-0 lead. Before the end of the 1st quarter, Trent State increased their lead when Karen Grady caught Jessica Daniels 8 yards pass into the endzone and the score was 10-0 after 1 quarter. Nowa Kalanianska scored early in the 2nd quarter when Swietomierz Wojtkiewicz ran to the endzone for 13 yards. Nowa Kalanianska tied the game with 46 seconds left in the 2nd quarter with a 29 yards field goal by François McDuff. 46 seconds and two time outs remaining for Trent State, instead of kneeling to end the 1st half, they tried to get more points. 3 completed passes later, they had a 1st and 10 at the 42 yards line in Nowa Kalanianska territory with 1 second left. "Jenkins" comes onto the field, it's a 59 yards attempt and the kick is good. Maybe one of the longest field goal in NSCF history?Trent State was leading 13-10 at halftime.

Nowa Kalanianska started off with the ball in the 3rd quarter but didn't score. Trent State followed with a 19 yards passing touchdown from Jessica Daniels to Esko Vakalinen. Kick returner Alexandra Lebouthillier catches the ball at the 1 yard line in her territory and crosses all the field for a 99 yards kick return touchdown. Before the end of the 3rd quarter, François McDuff ties the game with a 31 yards field goal and the score is 20-20 after 3 quarters. Trent State takes the lead back midway in the 4th quarter with a 24 yards field goal by "Jenkins". Nowa Kalanianska has the ball and with 3 minutes left, Carter McElhaney made a screen pass to Swietomierz Wojtkiewicz who catches the ball and runs all the way to the end zone for a 26 yards touchdown. Trent State had a chance to take back the lead again, but Jessica Daniels was intercepted just before the two minutes warning and Nowa Kalanianska killed off the clock. The final score was 27-23 Nowa Kalanianska. This is Nowa Kalanianska's 1st win in NSCF but they're still last in the standings. On week 5, the Aztecs will receive Niakursk University in Ostrow Krolewski. Bartlomiej Sokolowski (arm) is out, Mikolaj Gorak (groin) is doubtful and Jessica Beauchesne (hand) is probable.

Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer can't win

Green City, AU Zone, TJUN-ia - Université nationale de Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer played in Green City, one of AU Zone's biggest city I believe but they lost 23-12. The Toucans scored 4 field goals and no touchdowns. On week 5, the Toucans will receive Kormania in Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer. William Cousteau (ankle) is out and Jérôme McSween (arm) is questionnable.

Week 4’s game was, from a surface level glance at the stats, remarkably well matched. Passing, rushing, even penalty yardage: it was tough to separate the two teams as the Broncos ran out 5 point winners thanks to an extra field goal and converting their PAT kicks while the Golden Kings risked, and flunked, a couple of 2-point attempts. Beneath that illusion of parity, though, the game was never really as close as that, and when Tyriq Vaughn got the ball back at his 32 with 1:49 to go, though the crowd was going crazy, neutral observers would not have given the Golden Kings much chance – rightly so, as it proved. The Broncos led from their opening drive throughout the game, the Golden Kings never really looked like they could win it, and the L proved a pretty fair result.

The Golden Kings started with Rashad Muhammad back, thumb heavily strapped, but he had little support in his running back corps, with Zayvon Booker and Tavian Mills both out. Zaire Bailey was ruled fit but only played on about 60% of defensive downs: one of the team’s star defenders, that suggested his playing time was being limited to prevent further injury. On the opening drive, Reno Thai featured heavily for the Broncos but a crunching Quashawn Granger hit stopped him dead at 3rd-and-6 to settle for a field goal. Jalen Stokes, 103 yard hero against the Hustlers, made another good return to follow, taking the ball out for 39 yards, but João Kaloloua jarred the ball loose and only Rakeem Bellamy III smothering the bobbler averted disaster: not that it mattered.

Image
The drive went nowhere and at the second time of asking the Golden Kings fumbled the ball away again, with Priest Hunter strip-sacking Vaughn and Tito Bird claiming the loose ball. It was the pass rush that was the biggest difference on the night between the two teams. While Hunter and Jair Judge got in Vaughn’s face, Anwar Kumalo and Sincerity Matombo had yet another really disappointing showing. Kumalo didn’t even show up on the box score, Matombo with just one assist on a tackle barely registered, and it gave Brett Hannah far too much time to pick his targets even as Reno Thai had one of his quieter games. Hannah converted the good field position from the turnover on a quick drive capped by a short pass underneath to Cortney Allen and the lead grew to double digits.

With no Booker or Mills, LaMarcus Freeman got more touches on offense, including a career long 13 yard rush on a drive that took 7 minutes to move 21 yards as Jay’Vion Scott’s chop block cancelled out a 15 yard reception to Quindarius Hale and D.L. Carter’s holding call cost a further 10 yards. On 3rd and 18 at the 40, Vaughn finally launched a deep ball we know his arm is capable of but he’s been unwilling to put in the air so far this season, to be reeled in by Rashaun Holloway-James for a 35 yard gain. Next play he went deep again, this time finding Jelani Ogden down the left seam for an untouched touchdown. The Golden Kings were back in the game, but only for a single drive, as Hannah connected on deep balls to Vittorio Bermuda, Denario Southward, and Gigi Dudley, before hitting a quick slant to Saivion Ware to restore the 10 point lead. Both teams punted on their last drives of the half, which included Kareem X and Sai’f Collins combining on a rare safety blitz call from Tyson Adeyemi to sack Hannah.

The Golden Kings opened the second half with a terrible attempt at a reverse on 3rd and 2 that ended up with Dontravious Cole being taken down in the backfield for a loss, so they immediately punted the initiative away for Hannah to drive down again, including 18 yard passes to both Erik Skarsgård and Southward, and a storming 9 yard rush by Thai to drive into the red zone. For the third time, Hannah capped a drive with a precision short pass, this time to Dudley, who took the catch jumping above Tariq Abdullah’s grasp, the first time the cornerback had been beaten in red zone coverage this season. Freeman extended his rushing long to 15 yards on the next drive but it ran out of steam in midfield and they punted away, Ade Okafor getting to the punt to down it and pin the Broncos inside their 11. Collins registered his second sack of the night on the drive to ensure the Broncos punted back, with Vaughn starting this time in better field position.

His 61 yard drive took just 2 minutes as he completed 5 of 6 passes and Muhammad had two big rushes of 10 and 12 yards straight up the middle, and Vaughn finished things off with a short pass to Holloway-James. Still down 11, the Golden Kings took a swing at a 2 point conversion but Freeman couldn’t haul in the dart from Vaughn. And it all looked very academic as on the ensuing drive, Skarsgård, the big and mobile Tikariotian tight end, shrugged off his defenders as he took a catch at the Broncos’ 46 all the way in to the house. The 54 yard play was the longest of the night and extended the lead back up to 18 with less than a full quarter left to play.

It was typical of the ongoing see-saw between the teams that the next drive featured big penalty calls on both sides. Instead of 3rd and 16, the Golden Kings got a fresh set of downs as Isiah Mitchell was called for roughing the passer, but they couldn’t immediately make use of it as a 36 yard strike to Quindarius Hale was ruled back for interference. Cheeto Masarati was ruled to have held Chike Mensah for another new first down, and Freeman rushed for another 15 yard gain to move into the red zone. Vaughn swung a pass out to Muhammad who barreled into the end zone. This time they settled for an extra point, but with 9 minutes to go and needing two scores, chose not to onside the kick but rather risk kicking away. The decision didn’t work out too badly as the Broncos only made one first down before punting, and not for the first time this season special teams proved the difference maker for the Golden Kings as Abdullah ran it back 45 yards.

If that was just the spark Vaughn needed, he took some time showing it. Catches by Holloway-James and Ogden took the Golden Kings to the Broncos’ 27, but Vaughn threw incomplete to Marquez Livingston and was then sacked by Zaire Montclaire, forcing Isaiah Carter into burning a second timeout to give his offense time to regroup. Vaughn’s deep ball on the ensuing play found Emeka Okeke for 20 yards, and he finished to his favorite target, Holloway-James, for another touchdown score. Once again the two-point attempt fell short, and once again the team – lacking Javonte Durham and using punter Rashad Coleman for kickoffs – decided to kick away rather than go onside. The Broncos burned time with Thai but Bailey’s big tackle on 3rd down stopped a 1st down, and then a false start penalty nullified any attempt at going for it on 4th and 1, so they settled for a punt again. DaQuan Bradley muffed the catch, just managing to recover it ahead of Kaloloua, but ensuring the Golden Kings started deep in their own half.

Vaughn made passes to Ogden, Livingston, and Bradley to redeem himself to get past midfield, but now they rued those two wasted two-point conversions: had one been successful, or they taken the kicks each time, a field goal would be enough to force the tie, but five points down they had to go for it. Daniel Koo, who’d earlier given up a big DPI call, this time kept his hands to himself as he broke up a deep ball to Ogden, and after a penalty desperation heave on 3rd and 23 sailed into the stands. On a scrambling 4th and 23 Vaughn couldn’t find a receiver open and was dragged down by nickelback Conrad Siolla for the huge loss, turnover on downs – and the game.

Vaughn’s pretty passing numbers masked an uncertain display, and though Abdullah’s punt return sparked a bit of life for the offense, special teams nearly fumbled the ball away – twice. The biggest positive was Freeman, who picked up 47 yards on 7 carries and looks to be a good second option adding a scatback versatility to Muhammad’s power game. The biggest negative came on defense as the pass coverage allowed four touchdowns and the pass rush mostly fell flat. Matombo and Kumalo, meant to be the experienced defensive anchors, have been outplayed by Granger and J’riq Bennett-Patterson. Costly penalties also ruined some drives. Much improvement is needed to put together a winning record through the second half of the season.
