This should be correct. You were 2-2 after MD4, and after losing on MD5, are now 2-3.

Very sorry, but I'm running a sleep deficit that is going to get worse before it gets better, and I don't think I'm going to be reliable checking tiebreakers in this state. Expect finalized tallies Sunday, and playoffs to start Monday night (ie, two off days).

If anyone wants to do preliminary computations (please don't feel obliged), the tiebreakers are as follows: head-to-head record, head-to-head margin of victory (within groups), run differential per nine innings, scorinated playoff. Should there be a multi-way tie (usually within a group), it will be sorted from the top down: one team clearing the tiebreaker will reset other teams.

The extra innings tallies should be here. Add 90 to every number to get the denominator for RD/9. CTEd teams do not advance.

I got halfway before keeling over, I think this is probably correct for groups 1-4:
Group 1: Eshialand above Crpostran by head-to-head margin of victory.
Group 2: Tikariot above Drawkland by head-to-head record
Group 3: Hapilopper have the best record in games among 5-5 teams; TJUN-ia ahead of Dhemixia by head-to-head margin of victory
Group 4: Ardsk CTEd does not qualify. Holy Marsh and Valanora each won by 1 run. Holy Marsh RD superior. check RD/9

Edit: scorinator for tonight found, thanks Queb! I may need to put out another call in a couple days, at least for one more series ;)

Okay, so, a serious issue has been brought to my attention; Hapilopper should have advanced as the third team in Group 3. They would have been seeded 22nd and played Abanhfleft, which is where TJUN-ia wound up. Then Kanmer would not advance, and TJUN-ia and Vaishnavaria would play Quebec and South Newlandia, respectively.

I am inclined to scorinate all of the Hapilopper/Abanhfleft series in one go. Vaishnavaria were already eliminated so I'm not super concerned about them, but for the sake of TJUN-ia's future rankings, I need to do something to represent their performance in the Ro32. Does anyone have suggestions or advice?

Either way, tomorrow will probably be an off day (at least for the unaffected teams) and the Ro16 will start on Friday.

Edit: yeah, there are more ****ing errors. Expect delays. Ro16 definitely no earlier than Friday.

Can we do it this way: Finish the Abahnfleft/TJUN series, whoever wins "plays" Hapilopper and then that team advances to octos?

And, also, the team that wins, regardless of result against Hapilopper, gets to advance to octos for rankings purposes and gets the subsequent ranking boost (or doesn't, whichever helps the rankings more, I don't know). Basically, the idea is that even if either country lose the extra series against Hap they still get their best possible ranking and don't lose points for playing an extra series.

Not an ideal fix, I know, but possibly the least disruptive to other teams that have already advanced and maybe the fairest for Abahnfleft/TJUN-ia so that neither are eliminated.

So, just for the record, shit happens. I'm not particularly bothered with it nor do I necessarily think I deserve to be in the knockouts. I haven't really had time or inclination to RP in the World Baseball Classic this go-round because RL got in the way. I'm all good if TJUN-ia stays in and I don't, because TJUN-ia has been RPing and I haven't. You're good, Zwang.

I'm inclined to go with Hap here. Unless there are other massive errors we don't know about that would dramatically alter the knockout rounds, I'd just chalk it up OOCly to "shit happens" and leave it at that.

Perhaps a disqualification or withdrawal by Hap could provide an IC explanation should one be necessary.

Thanks all, I appreciate the reminders to keep breathing*. There was another issue, namely The Fortem should have advanced over Ochre Islands, so I do think I will need to resim several series tomorrow. (Technically The Fortem would have been seeded below Holy Marsh, but this is minor enough I'm fine leaving the Super-Llamaland/Holy Marsh series intact and advancing The Fortem to play Banija instead.)

Congratulations to South Newlandia on another well-deserved title!

In the meantime, the Post WBC 59 ranks have been updated. Nova Anglicana was handling the rank updating on his own sheet while he was in the presidential office, but now that he's gone I'm back in the saddle with my old rank sheet.

I've also backfilled the last few cycles of ranks so this spreadsheet is complete (special thanks to SNL in assisting with this). I'm not sure if people are able to view the "hidden" sheets just by clicking on the link, but if you're ever interested, every cycle of ranks going back to WBC 42 is available here ... in case that's ever something you want to look at. If you can't view the hidden sheets then they should be available if you use the "Make a Copy" feature in Google Sheets.

As always, let me know if you spot any errors. I had to make an educated guess about the missing QF results that the forum ate ... fortunately the Eshialand series went 5 games and was still visible, I remember my 3-1 series result vs Quebec, and I've been informed on good faith that SNL and SLL both swept their QF opponents. If the QF posts ever return (I'm starting to have my doubts) and it turns out Tikariot or Crpostran won a game in the QFs I will update their rank accordingly.

Voting time!

Yay, now I get to do this for the first time. Time to get the Council and HoF sorted out.

These nations were a part of the Council after WBC 58:
Abanhfleft
Banija
Barnettsville
Cassadaigua
Chromatika
Dod Rava
Drawkland
Eshialand
Milchama
Nova Anglicana
Nova Calania
Quebec and Shingoryeo
Ranoria
South Americanastan
South Newlandia
Super-Llamaland
The Star Enpire
TJUN-ia
Tikariot
Zwangzug

Failing to Provide a Roster & RP in WBC 58 and 59, and thus removed from the council:
Barnettsville, Chromatika, Nova Anglicana, Ranoria, South Americanastan (rostered but did not RP)

Not Providing a Roster & RP in WBC 59, and will be removed if they do the same in WBC 60:
Abanhfleft, Cassadaigua, The Star Enpire, Tikariot (rostered but did not RP)

Posted a roster & RP in WBC 58 and 59, and will be voted upon at this time:
The Kytler Peninsulae, Valanora

Posted a roster & RP in WBC 59, and will be eligible to be voted upon after WBC 60 if they do the same:
Avisora, Crpostran, Dhemixia, Diarcesia, Hapilopper, Holy Marsh, Kamijiro, Mercatoren, Oscioru, Panay Islands and Guimaras, StrayaRoos, Taxonomic Kingdoms

Therefore, the below nations are eligible to vote on the induction of Valanora and/or The Kytler Peninsulae to the WBC Council:
Abanhfleft
Banija
Cassadaigua
Dod Rava
Drawkland
Eshialand
Milchama
Nova Calania
Quebec and Shingoryeo
South Newlandia
Super-Llamaland
The Star Enpire
TJUN-ia
Tikariot
Zwangzug

Please send your votes for/against Valanora and/or The Kytler Peninsulae's addition to the WBC Council to this nation, no later than midnight, November 7th. Also let me know if you spot any errors.

Also, I'm not sure who's in charge of the Hall of Fame sheet. Technically it's not a presidential duty, so I'm fine if somebody else wants to take care of the calculations. I can coordinate the votes from this account once we determine eligibility for the next cycle. In fact I'm pretty sure Drawkland is eligible following the runner-up finish, so I'll make my VP receive the votes once we run those (for me and whoever else may become eligible).

Apologies for the delay, but both Valanora and The Kytler Peninsulae received 3-0 votes, so both are accepted into the Council.

Therefore, the Post-59 Council is officially this:
Abanhfleft
Banija
Cassadaigua
Dod Rava
Drawkland
Eshialand
Ko-oren
Milchama
Nova Calania
Quebec and Shingoryeo
South Newlandia
Super-Llamaland

Proposing an Amendment to the WBC Constitution:

AMENDMENT PROPOSAL: To Article I: Council Eligibility

The Article currently reads:
Article I: Council Eligibility

Section 1: To be an eligible member of the Council, a nation must have participated (meaning post a roster and at least ONE RP) in the previous 2 Classics and be approved by a simple majority vote of the current Council. (ie: if there are currently 10 or 11 voting members are on the council, then 6 members would have to approve, etc.) This is to limit the number of members of the Council to the truly active participants.

Section 2: To maintain membership, a nation must fulfill at least one of the following criteria:
Clause a. Hosting (or Co-hosting) a Classic, (if possible), within the next 3 Classics.
Clause b. Participate (meaning post a roster and at least ONE RP) in the subsequent Classic.

Section 3: If a Member of the Council fails to maintain its membership (by failure to fulfill any of the above criteria), it shall have 1 Classic to retain membership (by fulfilling any of the above criteria). If the Member does not do so, then it shall not be eligible for membership on the Council for a minimum of one Classic.

Section 4: Any previous hosts of the Classic within the last three WBCs are also eligible, pending a simple majority vote of the current Council.

Currently, WBC Council Membership is defined by nations. I suggest it would make more sense to tie it to users instead; especially for cases in which a user switches the nation they enter the WBC with. As long as the puppet connection has been established, the user shouldn't have to go through another Council Membership Vote if they would otherwise have retained membership. This also clarifies the accepted practise that nations need to only clear a majority of the part of the Council that actually submitted ballots; and changes the eligibility requirements to either consecutive participation or hosting the most recent edition as a returner.

Here is my proposed re-write, indicating removed sections in red, and newly added sections in green:

Article I: Council Eligibility

Section 1: To be an eligible member of the Council, a nation user must have participated (meaning post a roster and at least ONE RP) in the previous 2 Classics and be approved by a simple majority vote of a majority of ballots from the current Council.

Section 2: A user loses their Council Membership if they fail to participate (with a roster and RP) in two consecutive cycles. They may be readmitted via Section 1.

Section 3: A returning user that hosted the most recent World Baseball Classic will also be eligible for a Council vote.
