Baptism of Fire 84: Tumbra & Hapilopper

Welcome to the countries of Tumbra and Hapilopper for the Baptism of Fire [BoF] 84. This thread is the in-character [IC] thread for the event, and it is where rosters, roleplays, and results will be posted. If you see your nation name later on in this post, you may begin posting your rosters and roleplays [RPs] in this thread. Out-of-character [OOC] comments should instead be made in the World Cup Discussion Thread [WCDT].

The BoF is for teams new to the World Cup [WC]; this post will be therefore divided into two sections — one will be for players entirely new to the forum, and the second will be for all participants, regardless if they are new or not.

You should read this part of the post especially if you are new to the forum.

If you haven’t, you should read through the Guide to Sports Roleplaying, which contains a ton of important information about sports roleplaying, what to expect and what you should do.

The tournament will use a scorinator — effectively a weighted random number generator which will produce realistic results that will be heavily influenced by roleplaying. But it’s important to note that at the end of the day, results are random; they won’t go your way all of the time.

The first thing you should do in this thread is post a roster. Rosters are important because they provide your opponents with a basis with which they can roleplay. Valuable RP points are on offer too for them! All a roster needs is a list of 11 names, but they can also include the following:
- Your team’s nickname, kits, crest and logo;
- Player details such as age, bios, and positions;
- How your team sets up tactically, and information about managers and other staff;
- Information about your country and the fans.

Because all the games will be played in either Tumbra or Hapilopper, you won’t need home stadium information for this tournament, but for World Cup qualifying you should provide it!

Far and away the two most important things to include in a roster are an RP permissions box and your style modifier. An RP permissions box is included below.
Code: Select all
[box][b]My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:[/b]
Choose my goalscorers: Yes/No
Godmod scoring events: Yes/No
RP injuries to my players: Yes/No
Godmod injuries to my players: Yes/No
Hand out yellow cards to my players: Yes/No
Hand out red cards to my players: Yes/No
Godmod other events: Yes/No[/box]

A “godmod” is essentially an event that is weird or would not normally happen. A defender scoring a goal would not be a godmod. A ball bouncing off a spectator and landing inside the goal would be a godmod.

We strongly encourage you to set “Choose my goalscorers” to Yes to allow your opponents to roleplay the game. If you set it to “No” we will expect a written, in-character justification for this (e.g. there is a set goalscorer for your team); otherwise we may choose not to rule in favour of you if there are disputes regarding this specific RP permission.

RP permissions must be followed. You may list additional permissions (eg. number of red cards/yellow cards) but they cannot unduly impact how else other people roleplay their games.

Finally, a style modifier. This is a number between -5 and +5, which indicates how attacking your team’s style of play is. A -5 team is very defensive, with a lot of emphasis on preventing the other team from scoring, even at the expense of scoring themselves. A +5 team is very attacking, with a lot of emphasis on scoring goals, even at the risk of conceding to the other team. If you do not submit a style modifier, your team will automatically be assigned a 0 modifier indicating equal balance between offense and defense. (In practice, because most people tend to submit offensive modifiers, the overall average is usually slightly positive.) A style modifier has no impact on your chance of winning: it is purely cosmetic and used to determine whether you are more likely to win (or lose!) 5–4 or 1–0. Please make sure to post your style modifier clearly — make it big!

After your roster, you can start roleplaying. This tournament will be special — your team will immediately be competitive, while in the actual World Cup qualification your team will not be as competitive, as you will have a low rank. If you are in doubt about anything, please feel free to ask, either on the WCDT, asking the two hosts, or on this community's Discord server, which can be found at this link.

All disputes between competitors will be adjudicated by the hosts, whose decision is final.

ROLEPLAY PROMPTS:
Every cutoff will come with an RP prompt to help you think of any ideas to write a roleplay that could help your chances.

The writing prompts posted on the cutoffs are here to help you figure out what to write about. They are purely optional, and RPs that do not follow the prompts will NOT be penalized in any way. RPs that do follow the prompts will not be graded any differently than those that don't.

MD1: "For many of you, this is your first appearance in an international tournament. Some of you have played pre-tournament friendlies while others are in their first international match, period. What are the nerves like with your team?"

All credit for this OP goes to Græntfjall and Mertagne, whom the content of it is largely taken from.

A total of twelve (12) teams will participate in the Hapilopper side of the 84th Baptism of Fire, and for geography's sake, will be divided into three cities. Groups will play their games in stadiums in their geographical area. Each geographical area has two stadiums - a main stadium and a secondary stadium. We've included information about these stadiums and their surrounding areas.

WELCOME TO HAPILOPPER!

Hapilopper is a nation in west-central Esportiva of about 800 million people known for its love of sport (particularly automobile racing), its lunatic population that dominates the newspaper headlines and its love of fun. To an untrained eye, Hapilopper and its people have the optimism, style, culture, taste and love for life seen back in the 1990s. For your benefit, we've included information about the three geographical areas that Baptism of Fire teams will compete in during their stay in Hapilopper.

"I'VE NEVER BEEN TO HAPILOPPER, WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?"
Plain and simple, expect friendly people who will be more than happy to have you. Hapilopper is very friendly to international guests and locals are more than happy to buy international guests a drink. Hapilopper has opened its border to nations belonging to the Esportiva, Rushmore, Anaia, Arrosia, Mandalanusa and Sonnel regions, as well as those countries participating in the Baptism of Fire. A passport is required for entry but fans of participating countries are more than welcome to visit.

TRANSPORT:
AIR: International guests will arrive by air to Hapilopper through Hapilopper City International Airport (HHCI), located east of the West River in the suburb of Conyers. Nations competing in the other three major cities - Halsted and the Hampton Cities - will travel by air to those places - to Halsted Wreckeria Airport (HHWA) and to Hampton Cities National Airport (HHCN) in the middle of the city region These flights are chartered by Hapilopper Airlines, the flag carrier of Hapilopper, and are provided to Baptism of Fire nations free of charge, as well as any in-flight service provided to BoF teams.

LAND: Few things define the Hapiloppian experience quite like the automobile. There are few nations in the multiverse that have a love affair for the automobile quite like Hapilopper has - and this can be seen every weekend, when millions of Hapiloppians flock to the nation's race tracks to watch all forms of motorsport on television - be it stock car racing, single-seaters, sports cars or sprint cars.

The highways connecting all of Hapilopper's major cities, the Trans-Hapilopper Highway, has no speed limit, so expect to see cars flying past you at triple-digit speeds. Contrary to popular belief, the Trans-Hap is the only road in Hapilopper with no speed limit. Surface streets and lower-level highways carry speed limits from 25 mph to 75 mph. A team needing road transit will be granted the use of a charter bus to take them to and from their destinations, free of charge. Each metro area also utilizes its own mass transit system, mentioned below. People interested in traveling by train can do so using the HapTrak system, which connects every major metropolitan area in Hapilopper through high-speed rail. HapTrak connects to every major city's mass transit system - the CART (City Area Rapid Transit) in Hapilopper City, the HTA (Halsted Transit Authority) in Halsted, LLR (Lake Light Rail) in Lake Sprague and HARTA (Hampton Area Rapid Transit Authority) in the Hampton Cities.

LAWS TO NOTE:
LGBTQ+ Laws: Hapilopper is extremely LGBTQ+ friendly. Discrimination against the LGBTQ+ population is very rare, and laws protect that population from mistreatment.
Age of Consent: 18 and taken very seriously. Prostitution is legal but socially discouraged.
Religious Freedom: Most of Hapilopper does not observe a religion. Not to suggest that the Hapiloppians are anti-religious; far from it. They just don't really care. That said, Hapilopper's only laws concerning religious freedoms state that people of a religion can not be discriminated against for the purpose of their religion; that people are free to worship as they please; and hostile behavior in the name of religion is not tolerated - which is to say people of different lifestyles can not be discriminated against by religious institutions.
Alcohol: Legal age 18, all types sold at grocery stores and package stores across the country.
Tobacco: Legal age 18. One may be shocked at the level of tobacco advertisements seen across the country - an attempted ban on tobacco advertising in the 1970s was struck down as violating free speech laws. Smoking is prevalent across Hapilopper, as is tobacco advertising.
Cannabis: Legal age 18, but can not be brought in to the country. This is not a problem; Cannabis can be freely sold just as easily as cigarettes or alcohol.

STADIUM RULES TO NOTE:
Alcohol is sold at all stadiums until the 70:00 mark of the match. Sales are cut off due to incidents of famously unruly Hapiloppian fans, including one goober at Capital Stadium back in 2002 that lept from the stands and attempted to save a goal from being scored against Soldiers. He failed.1
Pyrotechnics, smoke bombs and similar items are strictly prohibited. That's just not something Hapiloppians do - in stadiums, at least.1
Banners are allowed and are actually encouraged to be brought in - but will be confiscated if it contains a message of a discriminatory nature (racist, sexist, homophobic, speciesist, etc)
Local police monitor the stands for any acts of hooliganism, and any acts will be stamped out in the strongest of terms through local police departments' SCUM (Secret Criminal Undermining Movement) units.

NOTE: Hapilopper uses the imperial system for all measurements. Temperature is calculated in Fahrenheit, wind is measured in miles per hour, precipitation is measured in inches.

GROUP D: THE HAPILOPPER CITY GROUP
Area population: 39,539,028 | Metro Mayor: Kel Greenman (Liberal Party)
The capital of Hapilopper is Hapilopper City, and its largest single metropolitan area, with nearly 40 million people living in and around the city. Around 20 million live in the city proper, which is seemingly awake every minute of the day and night. Many families have moved out to the suburbs - to affluent suburbs such as Lake Eclipse and Poplar Prairie, where upper-middle class and upper-class families are happy to make a living away from the 24/7 hustle and bustle of the city.

CAPITAL STADIUM - Hapilopper City
Capacity: 66,500 | Opened: 1970 | Open Air | Artificial Turf
Seats Available: 25,000 for both teams, 16,500 for neutral fans
Considered "The Mother Church of Hapiloppian Sport" and the home stadium for the Hapiloppian national football and baseball teams, as well as HFA teams Soldiers and West River FC, Capital Stadium is the last of the old concrete multi-purpose "donut" stadiums that used to be prevalent in the country. The field utilizes "WreckeriaTurf," a softer, grass-like artificial turf on top of heavy padding that allows players to not worry about sustaining injuries when falling to the surface. Considered an old-school stadium in more ways than one, fans get to see stats about the match on the dot-matrix video boards that ring the upper canopy of the stadium, while enjoying an ice cold beer for $4.99. Players will get to enjoy the luxury of some of the nicest locker rooms in the country, complete with big screen TV, catered food and drink and comfortable chairs to get a load off. PARKLAND STADIUM - Hapilopper City
Capacity: 52,000 | Opened: 1985 | Open Air | Natural Grass
Seats Available: 20,000 for both teams, 12,000 for neutral fans
The "other" stadium in Hapilopper City, Parkland Stadium, home of Football Club HC and Hapilopper City Highway Patrol, Parkland Stadium is located on the west side of Hapilopper City and is designed specifically for football only. Parkland Stadium hosts Football Club HC and the Hapilopper City Highway Patrol in the Hapiloppian Football Association, the latter of which is owned by the Hapilopper City Police Brotherhood and is among the top teams in Hapiloppian football. There's a lot to like in this place - such as a tremendous view of downtown Hapilopper City, a rowdy atmosphere - particularly when Soldiers and Highway Patrol do battle against each other - and the cheap prices of concessions - how about $5.50 for a footlong chili dog, cheese fries and a large Fresh Cola? It's said that Parkland Stadium and its concession vendor, the Footballer, sells more hot dogs per capita than anywhere in the multiverse. When there isn't a game going on, stop by the Footballer's main restaurant across the street. (RL Stadium Inspiration: Bobby Dodd Stadium, Atlanta, Georgia)

SCHEDULED GAMES:
MATCH DAY 1: Alexandrianonisimo v. Timlandian Federation
MATCH DAY 2: Timlandian Federation v. Revida
MATCH DAY 3: Alexandrianonisimo v. Revida
ROUND of 16: TBA

ACCOMODATIONS: City Group teams will stay in the Fifth Season West River Hotel, a magnificent 65-story, five-star hotel with views overlooking Capital Stadium and the Stadium District to its south, the West River and Conyers on the other side to the east. Amenities include extra-large Valentian2-style beds, televisions capable of carrying a full slate of channels from your home country (or those in Hapilopper if you desire) a full hotel bar downstairs and a restaurant with some of the best meals anywhere. The Fifth Season West River Restaurant has been rated by magazines such as "Chunk O'Meat Monthly," "Fine Dining Journal" and "Good Food Digest" as one of the finest in all of Hapilopper, serving meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

SURROUNDING POINTS OF INTEREST: About a mile from Capital Stadium is Hamilton Square, the sentimental center of Hapilopper City. It's where Hapiloppians get together to watch their favorites do battle in international sport and where they celebrate their big wins. Fans from all over the multiverse are invited to visit Hamilton Square, if they don't have a ticket for the games at Capital Stadium, to watch the Baptism of Fire matches for free on a giant screen.

Surrounding Capital Stadium is the Capital Stadium District, a happening area in Hapilopper City populated by many young residents in mixed-use apartment buildings around the stadium. For food, there's a Jane's Diner across the street from the stadium - a 24-hour-a-day, 7-day-a-week diner that sells all varieties of food, and features all sorts of entertainment, especially late at night when the drunks roll in. Stories and videos of fights breaking out at Jane's have become legend.3

But if you don't want to dodge an errant right hook while enjoying your hashbrowns, stop by Turkey's Burgers, a great burger joint not far away known for their triple cheese burgers, or better yet, drop by Pancakes' House of Pancakes across the street from the south entrance of the stadium. Considered the best brunch spot in the Stadium District, the restaurant is owned by Richard "Pancakes" Taggart, one of the heroes from Hapilopper's Baptism of Fire-winning squad from 14 cycles ago4.

If you're looking for a drink, what better place to go than Center Street Pub? A half-mile from the stadium, Center Street is considered THE place for all the football fans and players to go after a match. It is not an uncommon sight to see Hapiloppian footballers, just hours removed from throwing punches at each other, drinking a few cold ones and laughing about what had just happened. Pub owner Rod Marshman has drink specials for members of Baptism of Fire national squads.

If you want to see Hapilopper's true national sport in action, stop by the Half-Mile Dirt Oval on the grounds of the Hapilopper National Exhibition on Saturday night - between Match Day 1 and 2 - to enjoy a full slate of dirt track racing, highlighted by the Dominion Outlaw Series' Super Late Models competing for 100 laps on the dirt.

GROUP E: THE WRECKERIA GROUP
Area Population: 13,005,321* | Wreckerian President: Tammy Ross (Conservative-True Wreckerians)
*-Population is combined Halsted and Lake Sprague areas.
Now a Hapiloppian territory, the former Republic of Wreckeria has bounced back in a huge way from the 54-year long civil war that destroyed the country and left Wreckerians everywhere wondering where their next meal would come from and how they could afford to put food on the table. Instead, Wreckeria is booming on levels surpassing pre-civil war levels, on the back of technology firms and other industries. Halsted, the capital of Wreckeria, has become one of Esportiva's top tech hubs, with numerous computer and information technology firms setting up shop in downtown Halsted. Having survived that 54-year war, Wreckerian people are more hard-nosed than those in Hapilopper, and have harder sensibilities than those in, say, Hapilopper City. But they're a population excited for the future.

UNIFICATION STADIUM - Halsted
Capacity: 62,000 | Opened: 2026 | Open Air | Artificial Turf
Seats Available: 25,000 for both teams, 12,000 for neutral fans
Built as Wreckeria's de facto national stadium, Unification Stadium is a modern take on the classic cookie-cutter donut stadiums from years gone by. Similar to Capital Stadium, Unification Stadium uses "WreckeriaTurf," a form of heavily-padded artificial turf that allows players the peace of mind to not worry about injuries when taking bumps on the surface. The stadium replaced the dilapidated Patrick Stadium, a stadium that had served as Wreckeria's national stadium during its return to World Cup football after the enforced 54-year absence due to that civil war, and has seen Wreckerian football reach some incredible highs. This stadium features amenities that look more at home in Hapilopper, such as the ability to order concessions from in your seat, screens on the back of every seat and high-definition screens across the stadium. (RL Stadium Inspiration: Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium, Atlanta, Georgia)

SCHEDULED GAMES:
MATCH DAY 1: Chrizenia v. Panay Islands and Guimaras
MATCH DAY 2: Edsmontik v. Panay Islands and Guimaras
MATCH DAY 3: Chrizenia v. Edsmontik
ROUND of 16: TBA
ROUND of 8: TBA

WARNER HALL PARK - Lake Sprague
Capacity: 40,000 | Opened: 1961 | Open Air | Natural Grass
Seats available: 15,000 for both teams, 10,000 for neutral fans
A recently-renovated football stadium that plays host to Lake Sprague FC, Warner Hall Park - named for Warner Hall Pizza, the popular pizza chain in Hapilopper - is one of several pre-Wreckerian Civil War stadiums still active in Wreckeria. This is a classic-style stadium with few luxury boxes, few amenities and few things outside of going to your seat, enjoying the match and cheering on your favorite. But there's something special about Warner Hall Park that sometimes seems to be forgotten among newer parks. Fans are closer to the action than at newer, larger parks. Fans can practically touch the action on the field, and when Lake Sprague FC scores, it's not uncommon to see some of their fans rush out to congratulate their favorites. (RL Stadium Inspiration: Ladd-Peebles Stadium, Mobile, Alabama)

SCHEDULED GAMES:
MATCH DAY 1: Edsmontik v. Avisora
MATCH DAY 2: Chrizenia v. Avisora
MATCH DAY 3: Avisora v. Panay Islands and Guimaras

ACCOMODATIONS: Teams in the Wreckeria Group will stay in the Schroeder Street Hotel, a brand-new five-star hotel located in the heart of downtown Halsted, as well as the Lakeview Hotel, a four-star resort hotel, overlooking Lake Sprague. BoF teams will enjoy the comfort of extra-large Valentian2-style beds, as well as full room service and televisions capable of picking up channels from their home nation, or the regular Wreckerian television lineup. Both hotels also feature popular hotel bars, with the Lakeview also hosting live entertainment from lounge music groups every night.

SURROUNDING POINTS OF INTEREST: Halsted nightlife is certainly on the upward trend from what it was right after the Wreckerian Civil War. A wide variety of places to eat have opened as well, but one of the most prominent and most popular among the locals is Peterson's Sandwich Shop, a place where locals have, for years, gotten together to enjoy a nice selection of sandwiches, cold beer and on Wednesday nights, old B-movies from the 1970s and 1980s. None of these movies won any awards, nor did they come close to it, but that doesn't matter. Longtime Halsted locals come in every Wednesday night to enjoy a sandwich, a cold beer or two and an old slasher movie with some of the worst acting you've seen since that last time you saw that one footballer dive to try to draw a penalty.

Wreckerians love their Southern-style Rock and Country Music, and Honky Tonk bars are quite common across the country. The most famous in Halsted is the Hillbilly Boogie, located on Jackson Street, the road leading directly to Unification Stadium. In Lake Sprague, Chattahoochee's is a must-visit for football fans, named for a popular Wreckerian book, "The Chattahoochee Boys," about a group of country rockers that tried to organize a truce in the midst of the Wreckerian Civil War.

The Lake Sprague area, particularly the lakefront, where the stadium is located, has more than a few seafood places where people can enjoy some of the best fish in all of Hapilopper or Wreckeria. These places include Jack's on the Lake, which sells fresh catches every day, and the Lakefront Boil, which specializes in lakefront seafood boils, a popular Wreckerian dish. Try it sometime, it's fantastic. There are also fishing treks that people can purchase every day where they can go out on Lake Sprague and catch their own fish - things such as catfish, bass and trout.

If history interests you, visit the Wreckerian Unification Museum. Curator Arnold Martin, the former Wreckerian President, was responsible for bringing the country together in the aftermath of the Wreckerian Civil War and ceding it to neighboring Hapilopper. The museum covers all facets of the 54-year Wreckerian Civil War, from the assassination attempt on President John Adler that led to the start of the war, to the way life was like before the war started. This includes a special feature on Wreckeria's World Cup 30 team, a team that Wreckerian insiders had hope for.

Halsted is home to the very popular C:\Retrohut> retro computer store chain. Its headquarters and largest store is located in downtown Halsted, a half mile from Unification Stadium, where people can purchase old computers and software while playing around on a retro arcade of old Hapiloppian and Wreckerian games. It's one of the most popular attractions in Halsted.

GROUP F: THE HAMPTON CITIES GROUP
Area Population: 21,278,063 | Metro Mayor: Bob Patrick (Liberal Party)
The Hampton Cities - four cities in northeast Hapilopper - North Hampton, South Hampton, East Hampton and West Hampton - are commonly viewed together as one giant area. Together, the cities are known for their hard-nosed, emotional and wild nature. Need proof? Just visit some of the short tracks around the Hampton Cities, where the weekly stock car, modified and sprint car programs feature hyper-aggressive racing, fistfights and rivalries that oftentimes need police intervention5. Its most famous export, Taylor Stevenson6, is a former NSSCRA7 Multiversal Cup Series champion, and her championship opened the nation's - and the world's - eyes to just how wild Hampton Cities racing is. Its football is the same. Fans of Hampton Cities clubs - United Hampton Cities, West Hampton Sports Club and North Hampton FC - crave ultra-physical, offensive football, but they're looking forward to seeing what the rest of the multiverse brings to their shores.

NORTH HAMPTON STADIUM - North Hampton
Capacity: 55,000 | Opened: 1993 | Open Air | Natural Grass
Seats available: 20,000 for both teams, 15,000 for neutral fans
North Hampton Stadium is the largest of several stadiums in the four-city region, even if its team, North Hampton FC, consistently sits near the cellar of the HFA standings. It's also among the nicest. An informal survey among HFA teams have said that North Hampton Stadium has the nicest turf field in all of Hapiloppian football - a turf that players don't have to worry about. It's also a wonderful area for a ballgame - as North Hampton has built a "Stadium City" around the park, including apartments aimed at younger members of the population, restaurants and pubs for fans to pregame in and make a day of it before, hopefully, a great night of football. (RL Stadium Inspiration: Vanderbilt Stadium, Nashville, Tennessee)

SCHEDULED GAMES:

MATCH DAY 2: The Godlands I v. West Vdara
MATCH DAY 3: The Godlands I v. East Leaf

DAVID CONEY FIELD AT SHARPE'S STADIUM - East Hampton
Capacity: 47,500 | Opened: 2002 | Open Air | Natural Grass
Seats available: 20,000 for both teams, 7,500 for neutral fans
Dedicated for legendary striker David Coney, the highest-scoring player in the history of United Hampton Cities, David Coney Field is another of the more popular fields in Hapiloppian football, where United Hampton Cities fans can enjoy their team - consistently among the top of the table in the Hapiloppian league - do battle in their own, physical, wild style. Fans can enjoy interesting concessions such as soccer ball nachos - tortilla chips, sauce, meat and whatever you'd like inside a cut-out soccer ball, yours for $15.99 - or Snap's and Sharpe's - a Snap's-brewed beer infused with Sharpe's Coffee, the naming rights partner of Coney Field. (RL Stadium Inspiration: Citrus Bowl Stadium, Orlando, Florida)

SCHEDULED GAMES:
MATCH DAY 1: A Place Somewhere v. The Godlands I
MATCH DAY 2: East Leaf v. A Place Somewhere
MATCH DAY 3: West Vdara v. A Place Somewhere

ACCOMODATIONS: Hampton Cities teams will stay at the North Hampton Downtown Inn, a 45-story, four-star hotel. Guests will enjoy the immense comfort of extra-large Valentian2-style beds while enjoying full room service and some of the Hampton Cities' best television. Our recommendations include the cable access channels - Channel 19 and 20 - which, late at night, feature such quality shows as the burnouts in space trucker costume reviewing rock albums from the 1970s, call-in shows about sports (one about the Baptism of Fire is promised), which normally is inundated with prank calls, and a government public affairs show which features a wide variety of guests from Hapiloppian members of parliament to rabble-rousers that tend to enjoy speaking during the public comments portion of city council meetings.8

SURROUNDING POINTS OF INTEREST: Want to see a good fight? Check out the stock car races in the Hampton Cities. They're wild, they're crazy, and they're vicious. The fans are just as wild. Saturday Night at Sharpe's Speedway in West Hampton has a full slate of pavement stock car racing. About 20,000 fans fill the stands at Sharpe's Speedway every Saturday night, and they come in expecting chaos and insanity on the 3/8ths mile oval. Stock car racing is a central element of the Hapiloppian experience, but if it's not your thing, there's plenty of other things for people to do.

If you love coffee, visit the Sharpe's Coffee Shop across the Hampton Cities. Sharpe's, the largest coffee company in Hapilopper, is based in West Hampton, and uses the Hampton Cities as a test area for new types of coffee to try out. You'd be surprised with what you'd get. If you love steak, check out Russell The Steakhouse in North Hampton, which reportedly has about the best steak anywhere in the Hampton Cities. But don't ask to have it cooked well done - they'll tell you in no uncertain terms to get a hamburger or order the chicken.9

FOOTNOTES:
1 - Hapiloppians have an international reputation, and deservedly so, for being really, really stupid.
2 - Referring to beds from the nation of Valentine Z, capable of holding giant Valentians, a commodity popular with Hapiloppians since the days of NSSCRA 8 when the first Valentian beds were exported to Hapilopper. Permission was granted by Valentine Z for this purpose.
3 - Videos of fights at Jane's locations across Hapilopper, like at Waffle House in RLStates, have gone massively viral on social media.
4 - One of the reasons Hapilopper bid for the Baptism of Fire was out of remembrance to the country's win in the very same tournament 14 cycles ago, a tournament that made household names out of people like Pancakes Taggart, goalkeeper Cooter Harris, artistic goalscorer Ernie Stevenson and the late Nathan Ellis, considered at one time to be Hapilopper's violent gentleman. Since time is counted differently on NS Sports depending on who you talk to, I have used the term "cycles" instead of "years." Players age their characters differently depending on their personal preferences, and I am not in the business of telling you how to age your players. Some age them two years per cycle, others four years. I age my players one year per cycle.
5 - The brand of racing from the Hampton Cities is loosely based off what happens at Bowman Gray Stadium in the summertime. The stadium, which hosts the Winston-Salem State Rams of NCAA Division II football fame, also hosts the most famous local racing program in the country - and certainly the most attended. I've enclosed a video of what Bowman Gray racing is like.
6 - née Henderson.
7 - NSSCRA, or the NationStates Stock Car Racing Association, is the most popular sports league in Hapilopper. The NASCAR-adjacent league, run by Newmanistan, will start its 16th season in a few months. Hapiloppian driver Drake Stevenson has won the last two straight championships.
8 - Based off real life public access lunacy, which is even crazier than in Hapilopper, primarily because NS Sports has a PG-13 rule.
9 - Some restaurants in Hapilopper will actually throw you out for ordering a steak well done. You just don't do it. Ever.

A VISITOR'S GUIDE TO TUMBRA

LOCATED in central Esportiva, the Federal Republic of Tumbra is a sprawling, modern democratic republic of a hundred and twenty-one million people. Often considered a regional power, Tumbra has a diversified, modern economy amd is one of the strongest economies within Esportiva and the greater AREIMAS regions. Comprising twenty-five states and one territory to its north, six stadiums in the southeast of the country have been allocated for the hosting of the 84th Baptism of Fire. A full map of the country can be found here.

Airports, Getting To and Travelling Within Tumbra

Tumbra is a country of many climates; cold in the north, temperate in the middle and warm in the south. The sparkling, white-sanded beaches of the south and eastern coast, the mountains of the west and the boundless plains of central Tumbra also offer dazzling tourist spots if you wish to just relax. The southeast has a relatively temperate climate, bucked by warm winds coming in from the south; the climate in summer can be described as warm and wet. There's also the more metropolitan cities, chock-full of culture and nightlife for the less nature-inclined amongst visitors. Tumbra does not observe daylight saving time; the whole country is in a single timezone.

Getting to Tumbra would usually entail taking a plane from an airport; Tumbra has twelve international airports, the locations of which can be found in the above factbook. To get to destinations not provided by airport, high-speed rail that travels up to about 320km/h inside the country offers transport to all five cities hosting a match, ensuring comfort, speed and reliability to get your players to their matches on time. Within cities, most cities have at least some form of mass rapid transit or light rail that forms the basis of their transport system.

Should you still wish to travel by car, Tumbra uses left-hand drive, and verifiable international licenses are a prerequisite to hire a car. Expressways to each of the major cities do exist, though...trains also exist...and are faster...

IF your nation comes from Esportiva, Tumbra can be reached within four to six hours' flight; if it comes from the regions of Anaia, Arrosia, Rushmore or Mandalanunsa, then Tumbra can be reached from anywhere from six to twelve hours' flight; and for countries from outside the five sporting regions, then flights to Tumbra will take twelve hours or more. The main international airports in the southwest are located in Kingsbury and Hesham-Lakewood.

Ticket Policies and Stadium Rules

All visitors with a valid ticket will be given a visa; for those attending multiple matches, the visa will be extended accordingly. Tickets will be apportioned fairly; 40% to each team, and 10% will be sold to Tumbrans, with the remaining 10% to others. Ticket scalping is, of course, illegal; should one come across such an act of ticket scalping, then call 999 (the number for the Police in Tumbra). The number for emergency services (fire, ambulance) is 995.

Stadium-goers should be aware that public drunkenness and acts of hooliganism are arrestable offences, and the police often keep a strong presence at matchdays. Pyrotechnics are banned from being brought into stadiums; tifos and banners are allowed, however.

Laws

The policing in each state is run by the state governments, though they are all run to a unified federal code, which standardises most equipment and techniques. Federal laws will apply here; some of the more important ones are...

  • The age to buy alcohol and tobacco is set at 18 years.
  • The age of consent is 18 years. Prostitution is legal.
  • The status of marijuana, confusingly for Tumbra, is vague and depends on the state. The usage of medical marijuana, however, is legalised throughout all states.
  • The importation of alcohol and tobacco is illegal without declaration; and there are strict limits on the amount. Importation of marijuana is illegal; the same goes for other hard drugs.
  • There is a blanket ban on assault weapons in Tumbra, and no importation is allowed.

The currency of Tumbra is the Tumbran Dollar, with the exchange rate being set at 1 NSD to 1.33 TMD. There is a ten per cent consumption tax on all items; usually it is factored into the price of the item. All prices in this post are in NSD.

What to expect from a trip to Tumbra

Most hotels are 5* hotels closer to any given city centre, with hotels the further out of any city centre you go being more likely to be 4* or 3*. Hotel prices can range from $108/night at the most basic 3* hotels to over $500 at the most exclusive 5* hotels. Ticket prices for away fans have been capped at $75. An average week-long trip, with an assumed price of a $150/night hotel, comes out to around $3500/person. Tumbra uses BS 1363 three-pin plugs, like any civilised country; they also use the metric system, so a pint is 568ml instead of 473ml.

Most restaraunts serve two meals a day. The working day is from nine till five, five days a week, though the country is slowly moving towards a four-day work week. Most food chains are open until at least nine, with fast-food chains sometimes being open 24/7. Fast-food options include local brands like Happy Mac's (burgers and fries), Pete's (fried chicken and spaghetti, mainly, comes complete with anthropomorphic chicken mascot who, for some reason, eats chicken and spaghetti), and BreadTime (sandwiches, mainly subs). Coffee chains include Moonbeam (complete with sexually-suggestive mermaid mascot and more options that resemble coffee-flavoured milkshakes rather than actual coffee), Fortuna (new-on-the-block "tech-enabled" chain that really just means you use an app to order coffee), and Chestnut Coffee (kind of a hipster brand that specialises in the sit-down experience and pastries alongside the coffee). Your favourite foreign food brand should have an outlet or two in the bigger cities. Street food is commonplace, though highly regulated; you're more likely to find a food truck than a real street food shop. Tipping is not a thing in Tumbra and may actually be considered rude. The great institution of Tumbra, is, however, the bar; or, euphemistically called, the public house; while grubby and sticky, most of these institutions do serve rather cheap food and beer, and are one of the more-respected third spaces in the country.

When on public transport, it's common etiquette to shut up on the train, tram, or bus. If you must speak on the phone, do it quietly. Listening to music without any kind of audio device is a major social faux pas. When on escalators, stand on the left unless you're walking; pass on the right otherwise. Most public transport charges a small fee for use. No eating or drinking (except water) is allowed on public transport; it's common courtesy to give up your seat to the elderly, infirm, or pregnant. Public transport is by far the most common method of getting around Tumbra; stadiums rarely have many car park lots.

Most telecom services are offered by one of three companies: Tumbra Telecom, QTMB, or Lightning Telecom. Each of these offer data roaming facilities at competitive rates, though it's recommended you do your research before you go. Most public spaces have some sort of public WiFi, though bringing your own form of internet security is highly recommended for various reasons. Internet penetration rates are pretty high, with only the most rural of rural areas not having any kind of signal.

STADIUM INFORMATION

Image
The first listed match on each matchday will take place at the first listed stadium, and so on.

GROUP A: LAKEWOOD and NEWTON

LAKEWOOD
The industrial powerhouse of the South East, Lakewood made its fortunes during the Industrial Revolution (which arrived late on this country's shores — thanks, empire!) due to the burgeoning textile industry that was essentially spawned large waves of migration to the city. It helped that Lakewood was one of the few ports where immigrants to the country were able to be processed, alongside Nantwich and Couno in the north of the country; meaning that the city, more than others, has become more of a cultural melting pot than others. Homage is paid to this through the Museum of Immigration, located on the site of a former immigration processing centre. The city has grown so large in recent years that the city's suburbs have essentially spilled over into Hesham; the two form what is essentially a giant urban conurbation. It helps that the same international airport serves both cities.

Trenton Park (74,500)
Trenton Park is home to Lakewood United, historically the most successful team in Tumbra. A massive, sprawling colosseum, its differently shaped ends do make it look a bit dated, but gives it a lot of its charm — it began life over a hundred years ago, and was added to, piece by piece. Fans label this stadium "The House That Stephenson Built," referring to the longest-serving manager of Lakewood United, Ben Stephenson. The acoustics here are also excellent, adding to the atmosphere here.

NEWTON
That Tumbra has a long history in maritime trade is unsurprising; nearly all of its major cities of note are located on the coast. Newton is no different; but adds a different spin on the matter. Back in its heyday, Newton was the capital of Tumbran piracy and a city where even the most strict imperial rule couldn't get bring it down (until unification, of course — but that's a different matter). The entirety of the city centre could be a historical monument in itself; and that's not forgetting the fact that Newton is a canal city, where you're just as likely to catch a bus as a ferry over the waters to your next destination. Expect plenty of monuments to maritime heroes here; this city, alongside Collatia and Nantwich, is one of the three homes of the Tumbran shipbuilding industry.

Novena Park (32,000)
Located in a natural bowl in the suburbs which originally gave it a capacity of over 86,000 before those pesky things called "regulations" got in the way, Novena Park looks dated; but it still regularly pulls in crowds and is always one of the most filled stadiums in the country, no matter which tier the Newton Wanderers are playing in. While not as large, or as flashy, as nearby Columbia's Columbus Field, Newton's transport infrastructure and ability to host more people than the admittedly smaller town of Columbia means that Newton has been given the green light to host international-standard matches. Whether or not this means that the capacity of the stadium will be increased to 40,000 is still in the air; but the stadium could really use a fresh coat of paint to liven it up a little.

GROUP B: LAKEWOOD and HESHAM

LAKEWOOD
See above.

Lakewood City Arena (58,000)
Home to Lakewood United's rivals Lakewood City, the LCA was a more modern construction; only being completed in 2005. It, therefore, looks nicer than Trenton Park; but the diatribes launched against it say that it's a soulless atmosphere. Supports of City point to their attendance records and recent success. It is equipped with all the comforts of a modern stadium, really; and it's located closer to Lakewood's city centre than Trenton Park.
[RL inspiration: City of Manchester Stadium, Manchester]

HESHAM
Despite its size and proximity to Lakewood, Hesham is seen as a relatively laid-back city, more than content to let time pass it by. This is where Clearmont's agricultural industry — carried mostly by wheat — sends its cargo for it to be exported to the world. It's lost a bit of its cultural identity as time's gone on and Lakewood has begun to slowly subsume the city into the amorphous blob that is Greater Lakewood, but locals will never let anyone forget that modern Tumbran football was born here; after all, the meeting between club executives that formed the first-ever league competition was held here. Perhaps unsurprisingly with all that wheat passing through the city, it's got a high amount of breweries; and also the highest number of pubs per capita in Tumbra.

George Bowen Stadium (40,000)
Named after Hesham FC's longest-serving manager who delivered the club its only title and later saved the club from bankruptcy, the Ploughmen's arena with its distinctive bright green seats is a more rectangular effort than most. Distinctive for its bright green pylons that run along the outside of the stadium, it's a bit denser than most stadiums - only having one tier throughout it.
[RL inspiration: St. Mary's Stadium, Southampton, and Parc Olympique Lyonnais, Lyon]

GROUP C: CLYDE and KINGSBURY

CLYDE
Clyde is known for being the beating heart of Tumbra's coal industry, with this being where Tumbra's coal is exported to the world. The coal supply chain ends here; here, Tumbran coal goes to the world, after its starting journey in central Clearmont. Unsurprisingly, the city is unashamedly working-class, and has suffered something of a post-industrial decline with Tumbra's coal industry declining somewhat, though it is slowly going through something of an economic regeneration with a new focus on renewables. In a nice little touch of nature returning to the city, the city has a great butterfly garden nestled within the city's surprisingly large botanical garden; and the local university's environmental sciences department is one of the best in the country.

Clyde Park (38,500)
A relatively straightforward stadium, Clyde Park's somewhat-plain appearance belies the amount of history that the club has; that being said, the current stadium's lack of character can be somewhat ascribed to the numerous redevelopments that the club has undergone over time. In the league, however, it's renowned for having the best food on a cheap price; which makes it a great stadium-going experience for anyone looking to properly dig into stadium scran.
[RL inspiration: Villa Park, Birmingham]

KINGSBURY
The old imperial capital, Kingsbury's Historic Quarter is worth a whole afternoon on its own. The last castle of the Terenbergs (the old imperial family) was located here; nowadays it's a walkthrough museum, which takes a surprisingly neutral tone on the whole royalty thing. One of the wings of the castle has been converted into a public library, which probably shows the amount of attention the former royals receive these days. Apart from that, there's the Kingsbury Cathedral, which is the seat of Emberican Christianity and the Archbishop of Kingsbury; though it's probably telling of religion's place in public life that nobody gives a toss about them either.

Fletcher Park (45,000)
In a city full of history, the somewhat more modern-looking Fletcher Park stands out in the country. Located somewhat near the heart of the city, the stadium was recently expanded to fit 45,000 people. That was the latest in the long line of rebuilds, going from a bowl-shaped stadium in a natural valley to a much smaller, almost entirely white stadium with a curving roof; instantly giving the stadium a recognisable facade.

Important Team Players

FORWARDS
Vlakish Bervaign
An extremely loyal teammate, he'll do anything to contribute to a goal.
He's also a master long shot/power shot taker and will take every freekick.
Bervaign has scored a 27-yard-out freekick during an international friendly, giving him the record for longest Edsmon goal scored.

MIDFIELD
Maktholm Ghreksbvy
Although he isn't a master goalscorer, being on the right midfield gives him lots of good assists.
He's great at crossing and passing the ball long, making him a pretty big threat to opponent teams.
He's the fastest of the entire squad, and with his great dribbling skills as well, the Edsmon team can go from defense to attack in a snap.

DEFENSE
Ivikt Javarqa
Being 6 foot and 2 inches tall, with the most powerful header of your entire team brings many benefits.
He's the second fastest defender, right behind der-Suiozkeafter, who as of now has gathered a grand total of 3 yellows in 3 games.
Going back to Javarqa, his quality allows Edsmontik to win almost every defensive header, and every corner header, which is why the ball always goes to him during corners.

KANZLIAN ROSTER FOR THE 84th BAPTISM OF FIRE

Nation Name: The Reformed State of Kanzlia

Demonym: Kanzlian

Nickname: The Exiles

Kanzlia, formally recognised as Reformed Kanzlian State, is an island democratic republic on the far north of Roses Without Thorns. The country is divided into 7 provinces. Its main island, Kalta, consists of nearly 85% of the country's population whilst the smaller island of Farioli makes up the rest. The seat of power in Kanzlia lies on its southernmost and largest port city of Szbedansk. It’s followed by the cities of Kotr, Tergtheim, and Ibsia. The country is well known for the cold.

The Kanzlian National Football Team (Also known as Voetbalvereniging Kanzlia) was founded in 1900 but Kanzlian Football, in its current pyramid, was only finalised in the 1990s. Prior to this, a double league system was utilised. Anyhow, football is by far the most popular sport in Kanzlia with stadiums jam-packed full in every match of the season. Kanzlia with its history of hardships and prolonged periods of misery has resulted in a deep connection between the sport and Kanzlian society. The culture of the sport is one of fiery passion but also with a noticeable aspect of humbleness. A pundit said that Kanzlians are the sorest of losers during the 90 minutes, but once the game ends they switch back to normal often with an optimistic mood regardless of the result.

The Kanzlian National Team went on a record 11-game unbeaten streak in RWOT during the great famine (dubbed the Kanzlian Collapse) in the 1960s whilst being barred to play a game in Kanzlia. Hence how they got the nickname of “The Exiles”.

The VVK plays its official games in the Stadia Szbedansk, a relatively modern 53,280 seater stadium. Friendly games are often played in various stadiums.

Strongest XI

Manager: Vassilis v. Coevorden (48)

Preferred Tactic: 4-3-3

Style: +1

Vassilis van Coevorden, the father of the triple Coevordens (Ardentius, Reiner, and Sylverio) has managed the national team for 2 years now. His style of play seeks to create overloads in the opposition box by committing multiple players forward, regardless of opposition. His tempo is quick and always seeking for space to control the games tempo and move the pitch further towards the opposition.

During build-up Vassilis utilise the goalkeeper to help in the transition to pass the ball either to the dropped midfielder or the wingbacks ready to take off and exploit any available space they can get themselves into. During the attack, Vassilis utilise his wingers to invert and run into the box whilst the wingbacks take up the wings. This overload is intended to confuse and disorient the opposition. With this the oppositions half-spaces is left vulnerable to be exploited by the midfielders, and the wingers.

ONES TO WATCH

Zaouane Mido
The veteran goalkeeper is renowned for his on-the-ball ability more than his goalkeeping. He’s always calm and composed in possession and never hesitant to drag an opposing player towards him to free up space for the defenders. His goalkeeping is still good, he managed to keep 11 clean sheets in 30 games for a struggling Armada Kotr side. His high stature (197 cm) and dexterity with all of his limbs makes him an integral part in keeping possession and progressing the ball forwards. You sometimes forget he’s 35.

Christian Bagheria
The Tergtheim native had a breakout season the season prior. His tall and big physique is enough to scare forwards from challenging him in the air. His long legs allows him to be notorious for tackling faster players from the side. He’s still 22 so several aspects of his game, such as aggressiveness, still needs to be refined. But otherwise Bagheria deserves his sport in the starting lineup because of the indispensible defensive qualities and insurance he brings to the team.

Ardentius van Coevorden
The youngest of the Triple Coevordens, Ardentius in a matter of 3 games managed to claim Don Kaap’s usually secure starting position for 1899 Szbedansk. What makes Ardentius really unique is actually his superb offensive capabilities. Comfortable with the ball, and not shy to dribble past players to bring the ball into the midfield. He often find himself in the opposition box during a counter attack. Not to mention his stamina, its almost as if this kid have backup lungs! Though naturally with a defender finding himself constantly on the other side of the pitch - he needs to improve his game reading and make better decisions.
One other part of his game that stands out is his ability to predict opponents passes. During his debut in the Szbedansk Derby no less, he managed to intercept 7 passes in 20 minutes (including 2 through-balls!). He immediately became a fan favourite as a result and ganed his nickname of “de Onderschepper” or the interceptor.

Evert van Selm
A bright spot in Armada Kotr’s disastrous season, Evert van Selm took upon himself to be the glue of the team. He scans the pitch often and his first touch is simply sublime. He often supports defenders who werent too comfortable with the ball and thanks to his reading of the game was always in a position where he can pass it to someone else. His vigour and passion allows him to remain consistent throughout the season but also throughout the 90 minutes. He runs as often as he does in the first minutes to stoppage time.

Sylverio van Coevorden
Another of the Triple Coevordens. Intially met intense criticism from the media for nepotism due to his inclusion in the national team roster by his father, he silenced his critics almost immediately. In his debut for Kanzlia he provided two assists, and 5 games in his international career he already have 5 goal contributions. He’s one who wouldnt back away from dribbiling past defenders but he always look for an option to pass if that’s the best option. It’s a mindset and game reading you wouldnt expect to find in a 22 year old. Blistering with pace he simply just outruns his man marker and giving him space is near-guaranteed to give him a chance at goal. His flair is also very noticeable, and drew a lot of criticism (from Armada fans) back home when he feinted a pass against Ron Tyke. Ron Tyke would turn so abruptly he tore his ACL and his injury forced him to retire. One part of the game he has to improve on is conserving his energy, Sylverio hasnt made a full 90 minute apperance in his past 10 games he appeared in. A testament to how much passion he plays but also proves that the 22-year-old still has a lot to learn.

The Federation of Panay Islands and Guimaras, also called Panay Islands and Guimaras, or Panay-Guimaras is a nation in Asia. Located in the Philippine archipelago, Panay Islands and Guimaras has been a touristic hotbed because of its beaches and nature conserving tourist attractions which the government funded. The Panay Islands and Guimaras dominion is consisted of 5 autonomous provinces and 1 federal canton.

The Panayense national football team was founded before the first Far Eastern Games in 1913 and represents Panay Islands and Guimaras in international stages. Sports has been so popular amongst Panayenses and is heavily funded by the government. The main sports were football, basketball, volleyball, boxing, baseball, and Australian rules football, or as we call it "balonpié".

The national team plays its games at the Paulino Alcántara Stadium in Iloílo City, in the Federal Canton but sometimes the national team held games in other autonomous provinces such as Iloílo, Antique, Aklan, Capiz, and Guimarás. Even in Antique's federal district of the Caluya Islands.

THE STARTING ELEVEN (WITH SUBSTITUTES)
Image

ABOUT THE MANAGER
Claudio Niiyama was born in León, Iloílo with parents Sachiko and Romualdo. He first played professionally with CS Leganés. He had a decent career in both first and second division, until injuries made him to retire. Because of his bachelor degree in politics at the Royal Central University, which he played for varsity, he took the managing job for teams like Unión Barotaqueño, ASU Antique, and Gimnasia de Passi. He had some successes there as a manager that led him to manage the national team since 2021.

ABOUT THE HEAD COACH
Lázaro Pierini was born in Tero al Disco. He first started coaching in the 2nd division with the likes of Palestino and Sportivo Escobar. He has some many successes with them as they got promoted. After a success with Gimnasia y Bala, the RAFP called him up on the phone and told him after a season with Gimnasia y Bala, he would step up as a national team coach for the Carabaos. He accepted the offer. When he first stepped in as a coach, he saw the flaws of the team and started them to improve the attacking. And the team has improved with him and his team of fellow Terense assistant coaches Mariano Engelmann and and Jorge Arrascaeta.

PLAYERS TO LOOK OUT FOR

MIGUEL ALDOVINO
He was a collegiate standout for the University of Saint Augustine for his breathtaking saves and reflexes. And when he got into the professional leagues, his saves and reflexes have been improved ever since he step into the pros.

EDUARDO HEO
Heo is also a collegiate standout but for the Korean University of the Federal Canton. He's just like Sergio Ramos but better. He might have the hooligan personality but he actually defended the field with pride and passion and he bring that passion and pride into the pros.

MANUEL MORI
A tackling machine from the Antique Provincial University and until now, a tackling machine in the pros for CS Leganés. So, watch out for the tackling supersub!

JOSÉ LUIS DEL CASTRO
Currently playing in Imporia, José Luis has been a good midfielder from Guimarás, but the Imporian scouts has seen his brilliant dribbling skills and his goalscoring ability. So he's going to get signed by an Imporian club and his skills haven't been much better ever since he stepped foot on the Imporian pros.

MANOLITO RODRIGUEZ
A Panay Royal University standout for his leadership and dribbling skills, has captained both varsity and professional level, currently plays for his beloved Iloílo Industrial. He's an all-around captain. A defender, dribbler, goalscorer, and a leader. He recently got master's degree in both economics and political sciences in the same university he played in.

JAVIER RICALDE
A Panayense superstar, the first non-Edsmon to play in the Edsmon leagues, Javi Ricalde has been a proving top goalscorer since he joined the pros at an early young age of 17 after getting drafted from his high school. He played first for Marítimo de Roxas and Regatas Boracay, where he always became the league's topscorer. That's why the Edsmons are interested to sign him into the Edsmon leagues, and has played here ever since he stepped foot in Edsmontik. (Ironic that he's playing our rivals there but come on he's a goalscorer)

(OOC: if you don’t wanna RP this, just pretend its a team with 5 good players and a bunch of garbage players)

The Godlands is not just a nation, it is a project. A nation without any landmass whose population consists of only one person. From its creator, Abraham, the goal was to push the boundaries of the sporting world and forge a different kind of team. No more than five people, including himself, would represent his nation. In order to make his vision a reality, Abraham needed to find the most elite squad of athletes from all across the multiverse. He scoured through countless regions and nations and tested legions of sapient beings to find his four best candidates. After a lot of negotiation and even more paperwork, Abraham managed to assemble his squad and registered them as the official members of the Godlands’ football team.

A problem! You need at least seven members to make a team for the World Cup, the intended stage for Abraham to debut his team. In order to resolve this problem, he enlisted the help of a few of his lifelong friends. So, meet Thing One and Thing Two. Thing One is a mannequin that sits in the midfield and Thing Two is a bucket that stays near the goal. Since the Laws of the Game state that a match will not start unless each team has at least seven players, and since the definition of a “player” is very flimsy, it is arguably valid to field the Things as members of the team. With that technicality out of the way, let’s meet the roster.

The Roster

No last name was given for the members of the team. Instead, each one was given a name alongside the name of a god. In a sense, they make up the soul of these gods. Thing One and Thing Two were not given gods however (who could possibly know why).

(OOC: if you want to help with some worldbuilding, I’m trying to find home countries for my characters and would love it if you reached out!)

Abraham a.k.a "Ra" (he/him) - GK

The job of organizing this project was a thankless one. It had been in the works since World Cup 96, and it was a nightmare of both registering and verifying The Godlands as an independent state (which is technically called “The Godlands I” because some other nation was called “The Godlands” in recent history). Nevertheless, Abraham obviously had a motive to do this. Abraham is really strong. Years ago, he was an untouchable machine in physicality, from weightlifting to boxing and even as far as jumping. He was so good that he was unchallenged in his home country at many of his sports endeavors. Being dedicated to finding a challenge, he knew that bringing his skills to the world stage wasn’t enough. This (arguably masochistic) man wanted to see what he could do with a team merely half the size. The Godlands was the end result.

Iris a.k.a "Gaia" (she/her) - LB

Iris had lived in the slums of ~~~ all her life. Abraham had only noticed her from the corner of his eye, dashing around like a shadow. When he turned to look at her, he saw a small and nimble girl, no taller than five feet. Matter of fact, nimble is a dramatic understatement, this girl was blisteringly fast and agile. Dashing around in the back alleys of ~~~, Abraham called out to her. To make a long story short, Abraham offered her a position on the team and she accepted it, being given the title of Gaia. Arguably it's because she could cover ground like no one else, but really it was just because Iris thought the name was pretty.

Acorn a.k.a "Odin" (he/him) - RB

By the time Abraham had come across Acorn, he was already looking for the last member of his team. His head was pounding, he was driving to a restaurant to get dinner with the other members, but he noticed a runner on the side of the road. This wasn’t just any normal runner nor was this any normal road. This was a backroad miles from town and this guy had blood dripping down his face. Despite this, he actually seemed to be running quite quickly. Abraham stopped on the side of the road to briefly run with this guy and ask him about the story behind everything going on. As it turned out, this guy had already been running for 80 kilometers and was planning to continue on for another 40. Abraham, having been tired from the relentless searching, blurted out that he wanted Acorn on the team. Acorn hesitantly agreed to see the team and was eventually convinced to join them.

Juno a.k.a "Leviathan" (she/her) - CM

Abraham didn’t actually find Juno. She was actually quite a prominent youth figure from ~~~, scoring perfect results in her academic years and being a high-tier prospect in both MMA and the triathlon. Needless to say she had a lot of the qualities Abraham needed, but it was actually Juno who approaced Abraham first. From one of the many campaigns to test people, his “Olympic Training Grounds,” Juno had decided to show up. Not only did she score perfectly in the strength test, she also managed to break a record in the vertical jump test. From that, Abraham confronted Juno and asked her to do an extra test: IQ and APM (actions per minute). She completely dominated both of those tests, and Abraham offered her a once-in-a-lifetime spot to join a World Cup Qualifier team. Hesitant but enthusiastic, Juno accepted the offer, and the Leviathan was born.

Anon a.k.a "Indra" (no preferred pronouns) - ST

Anon was the first person Abraham approached about joining the team, and for good reason. Anon was smart, they had accuracy, and perhaps most importantly of all, Abraham knew Anon personally. Abraham had seen what Anon was capable of and personally approached them about being on this World Cup team. The thing is, Anon is the least “athletic freak” of the team, but what they don’t have in explosive power and speed, they more than make up for with composure, game IQ, finishing skills, and mental toughness. Anon might not be the best striker in the world, but they will not let the opportunity slip by so easily. The only question is whether they will be able to stay composed with only four teammates behind them.

The Kit

Thanks to the Edmonstik company Xetric (and some financially questionable loans), Abraham was able to secure a kit for the team. The kit prominently features images of the five gods represented by the team as well as crossing colours according to the gods' colour themes.

Kronbia men's national football team

Overview

Football does not have a large fan base and comes in fourth place after basketball, baseball and boxing. Football began to appear on the island at the end of the eighties and continued as a game played in the streets and squares until 1998, when the first football league was established it consists of 5 teams. The number of teams has reached 8 currently. The sport does not find sufficient financial support due to the lack of audience attendance, the lack of sponsors, and the lack of any channels’ interest in broadcasting the matches.

KATZEBURGIAN NATIONAL TEAM

The Blue Cats

Style Modifier: +3

The Blue Cats are the national representatives of Katzeburg, participating in their first ever international competition with BOF 84. The team is nicknamed after an incredibly rare breed of the country's national animal, the cat, which was long-rumored to exist in small numbers in the Campbellnia National Park along the country's north-east coast. While Katzeburg is only a young nation, football has quickly picked up pace as the most popular sports on its shores. Initial hotspots of the sport were predominantly in the more industrial north of the nation, encompassing the nation's central capital Katzestadt, its heavy industrial city of Inverhaven, and the north-eastern city of Axmund.

The country has a start-up national league currently mid-way through its first season called the Katzeburgian National League, with the national team's first ever manager Becka Haberkorn, who was appointed following a handful of successful seasons overseeing an Inverhaven local side, guiding the side for its maiden run, with the initial squad up entirely pulled from the national league.

THE DEBRIEF

Image
By Otis Huffman, Katzeburg Broadcasting Corporation

Katzeburg's first ever international squad looks to be an eclectic bunch, predominantly selected from the top performing sides of the current inaugural season of the Katzeburgian National League. Manager Becka Haberkorn has leaned heavily on the sides from the three largest cities in the nation's north, with only four players coming from outside of the national capital Katzestadt, industrial powerhouse Inverhaven, or logging heartland Axmund.

Drake Wruck will be expected to take his good league form onto the international stage, with the Katzestadt Rovers forward netting 12 goals in 12 games so far this season. But with a strong depth up front, including the selection of both strikers from in-form Axmund City (Jaxxon Johns and 16-year-old Clay Marsh, the youngest member of the squad), goals will be expected and quickly under Haberkorn's regime.

Midfielder Tilman Cummings and young defender Katharine Howland make the starting lineups after a great start to the season for Barenwold, while two legitimate shocks in the form of Refeld's young keeper Jim Comstock and Penntop forward Brigitte Ball round out the core of the squad. Comstock rewarded for his skills between the sticks despite Refeld's struggling start to the season, while Ball's 7 league goals - equal second on the goalscoring charts - demanded her inclusion despite her young age.

The biggest omissions? Arguably Barenwold keeper Raymond Rose, who would have been tipped for a captaincy position had they made the squad. Wolfenholm locals will be annoyed not to see any of their squad make the cut, but the side's lacklustre start to the league campaign obviously factored into Haberkorn's thinking. Elsewhere, young Blubeck forward Sonja Daubney will be disappointed to have just missed out on selection despite 6 league goals to date - but at just 16, expect her to make the squad down the line.

Inverhaven City captain Owen Levitt is the man trusted to take the armband for the country's debut international run, with expectations to grab at least a point or two from early competition.

Avisoran National Team

Barely 25 thousand people live in this small Anaian nation, which makes it very surprising 23 of them got together, gathered funds and decided to make the trip to Hapilopper to participate in the 84th Baptism of Fire. Football is amongst the most popular sports in the nation, with the 4 biggest amateur clubs sending players to represent the Nation for the first time in any international event! This historically and culturally rich nation is now ready to write its first page in sports history.

The team won't be used to playing in front of large crowds, playing several preparation games in the 10,000 capacity National Training Center prior to the trip to Tumbra. This is the national stadium for several sports and other non-athletic events, making it the largest capacity stadium in the country, with Club Atlético Central's Valle Verde stadium coming in 2nd with just 2,000 spectators allowed.

ImageImage

The home kit is of course inspired in our National Flag, with details in light blue and green. The away kit is based on the elegant penguins of Avisora, with a half-and-half black-and-white kit.

The Penguins, taking on the banner of the national bird, are managed by a young, temperamental manager named Pedro Valencia. Valencia is known as a motivator, leading a tactically solid squad with great discipline. His personality often has him at odds with several of his players however, clashing due to an inability to channel his temperament adequately. The players still look up to him, as he is of course one of the few coaches able to handle this level of pressure. Valencia will most likely play a 4-2-3-1, adapting to a 5-2-3 when things get rough. His style of play is a patient one, with passing being the preferred means of reaching the goal, with all 3 attacking mids trying to feed balls into the box for the lone striker to smash in.

Here's the 23 man roster for Avisora:
(Bold means starter)

If the cards fall right, they could win it all (which is likely considering how well they did in the toughest group in the Campeonato Esportiva), or lose every game in the group stage.
Headlines:
Will Restresian Success continue, despite the new expectations put onto them as a favorite to win the whole competition? Will Indiana Pablo continue to be the showstopper he was in the Campeonato and the most recent Restresian Premier League season? Will the goalkeeping be there for them whenever the team needs it most? And most importantly: Is Restresas ready for competiton outside of their continent?
Roleplay permissions

Choose my goalscorers: Yes
Godmod scoring events: No

A little Something After CE38:

Postby Restresas » Sun Jul 14, 2024 3:03 pm

June 1st, 1012:

"Squirrels, you have done well this tournament, and thus, today is a day for celebration for Restresas, as the team has made incredible progress to help get to a point where we all can be proud of their performance on and off the pitch. Well done gentlemen!" King Ineste announced to the nation.

After the broadcast footage cut off, there was a lunch with the king, his wife, and the team, alongside an hour long time between themselves and the royals.

There, two old friends who are the faces of Restresas' future saw each other, King Ineste and Indiana Pablo. “Ineste! It’s been a quite a bit since we chatted like this. Wonder how the wife search is going for you.” Pablo says.

Ineste responded: “It’s good to talk with close friends like this after so long, and as you can tell by my hand…" Ineste shows the wedding band to Indiana. "The search is over. She is wonderful, and we are so excited for what is to come in the future. How about yours?”

“For me… mine is doing amazing and our little family is perfect right now, thanks for asking.” Indiana replied calm and collected, as usual.

The general chatter about their lives have them both wrapped in emotion, as both are expected to be dads soon. Alongside this, Ineste made a comment about that moment against Hapilopper.

"Yeah, congrats to you! To change the topic a bit, what you did against Hapilopper's Rod Cutt was amazing! How did you manage to do that?" Ineste questioned.

Indiana replied with something unexpected: "It was karate training, to be honest. I became a Black Belt, it helped me a lot for dealing with phyiscality in football, and the catching with one hand thing is something I used to do a lot to counter kicks, so it was just instinct for me to do so, nothing more. We did lose that game though, so despite the moment being something that people still talk about, I never held that moment in high regard."

"Come on Indiana, live a little more in the moment!" Ineste replied. "We only live once, so anything we can do to help live more, it's something that we cherish forever." Ineste then prompts Pablo to not think so much about the outcome, but the journey to that outcome. "You know, who cares who lost that game 10 years from now, the moment is what matters Indy. You have a lot of time left in your career to prove yourself, and in life as a whole. Also, kick some ass for your amigo, why won't you?"

Indiana, with a smile on his face replies: "I'll take that into consideration, and indeed my friend and my king, I will absolutely continue to do what I do."

Time runs out, and alongside Wesley's remakes on how the sky's the limit, the Restresians feel 0 pressure on them. Thus, they have nothing to lose. But, they will give it their all to get to the 97th World Cup and win it if it is possible. The Baptism of Fire on the other hand... it's something that Restresas expects to win, no more, and no less...

Vaishnavaria National Football Team
Image

Football In Vaishnavaria was popular since the Liberator war but it skyrocketed in popularity when a young 23 year old striker on the 1985 National team named Nahal Nahari led Vaishnavaria to dominance in many cups and led to them being the best football team in concord. Now Vaishnavaria for the First time is entering the Nationstates World Cup and BOF 84. Now the team is better then they have ever been with star captain Alecsander Komich and legendary winger Zakaraya Kar as well as rock solid defender Kapil Nartar and a stellar defender core. So now we are here to release our team after YEARS of searching and evaluation.

Image

Strikers: Nahari Jain and Nathaniel Grant
Nahari Jain is known for his incredibly agility, precise finishing and ability to go Aerial and make headers easily due to his 6'2 strong stature and his big vertical. He is also a great dribbler, great at controlling the ball and not doing anything fancy. He has an incredible first touch setting himself up for big plays. He can play any position and with any tactics. Nathaniel Grant is a great source of goals setting himself up in the right position to score goals. He is also an incredible passer and plays incredibly well under pressure. He shakes off defenders easily and has strong power as well as an accurate leg. He is often found near the last defender and can receive and control any pass. The only problem is that his dribbling needs some work as well as his headers.

Wingers: Alecsander Komich and Zakaraya Kar

The Wingers are both midfielders and Wingers. Alecsander Komich has the soul and skill of a soccer player. Nobody in the world can match his dribbling skills and moves as well as his incredible speed. He shakes off defenders easily and can shoot from anywhere under any pressure. He slips past defenders easily and can almost 100 percent make close shots and open shots. People compare him with Di Bradini and some even say he is better. On defense he is very aggressive paring well with Nik Rosario,Fred Belfast and Nahari Jain to form an Iron front at the Midfield. He can steal easily and doesn't fall for fakes. he has the cleanest slide tackle in all of Vaishnavaria. Zakaraya Kar is a elite winger picked up from Louisenai FC. He is incredibly fast with great dribbling skills and FREAKY fakes. He can make goals from anywhere and is great at finding passes to advance up field. Problem is under an aggressive defender his skills weaken and he can be too fancy or try to force a pass or a shot.

Center Midfielders: Fred Belfast and Nik Rosario.

You know an Anjan Kloss player made a pretty good quote after being crushed by Vaishnavaria in an LCFL warm up game. "They say Half of earth is water. The Rest is covered by the Vaishnavarian Midfielders". Nik Rosario is an incredible defender and a great passer Although he is not a source of goals. Nik Rosario works with winger Zakaraya Kar and Alecsander Komich to advance up the field quickly. He sets up passes to create big plays and he can find a gap anywhere. He is also a great and aggressive dribbler working his way into open space well. And in the Midfield he makes the opponent fight to get past him. He leads the VSL in interceptions and also leads the LCFL in interceptions. Fred Belfast has the same skill set as Rosario but he is a fast and skilled dribbler too. Belfast although is very foul prone drawing a record number of yellow cards in a single season. Rosario also has the same problem.

Defenders: Kapil Nartar,Ross Newman,Hastan Raystone and Kyle Russo

Goalkeeper: Giovanni Marcilo

Huayramarca friendly!!!

Postby Restresas » Mon Jul 15, 2024 11:43 am

Lisade 10th, 1012:

As the friendly in the Restresian national stadium between the Squirrels of Restresas and Los Cóndores of Huayramarca commences, the tension is unusally high, because this is not only Restresas's first time dealing with a foe outside of their region, but they are also a world renowned team, and a team with a very similar playstyle to the Squirrels. The leaders of both nations are delighted by the events commencing, and when the first kick of the ball is handed out, the game that those in Maresda showed up to see was nothing less than a classic. The stars were all showing up for this game because it was the perfect chance for Restresas to bring together in harmony, and put behind them the club rivalry tensions ahead of their matches, while Huayramarca, after the year away from each other, had to get used to each other's presence again.

The game was unusually smooth with the aggression that both teams played with... and the showcases that both teams had offensively impressed even the world class opponents that Restresas had to face. With a few goals from both teams in the first half, the match went into halftime at 3-2 in Huayramarca's favor, thanks to amazing goals by Indiana Pablo and Pablo Albu for Restresas, and goals from Tathan-Anthony Berhalter, Ian Mamani, and Abraham Mendoza for Huayramarca.

At halftime in the locker room, Wesley was pleased by how well his team's defense and offense were playing, saying that: "we've been doing well in minimizing their opportunities, just both teams are so good at scoring goals that it's been hard to lock either side down for good.", and that they were making some excellent pace with their opponents, saying in the locker room to his players that "THAT'S WHAT WE LIKE TO SEE! You're playing hard, intense, and like you have nothing to lose. Even if we lose this game, it's a statement to Huayramarca and our opponents in the Baptism of Fire that we can hang with the best of them, NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE ELSE SAYS." New captain Indiana Pablo received a yellow in the 35th minute for a rough tackle, but it was otherwise a very clean game from both sides, very uncharacteristic for how aggressive these teams are.

The second half was very similar to the first half, with many tackles being on point, and there being some very strong offensive attacks almost happening repeatedly. It would be midfielder Mark Fredrick Lindsay (The Dacia one) who scored first in the second half in the 48th minute, followed by left full back Aidar Armendariz for Huayramarca in the 53rd minute. The game calmed down a bit afterwards, and then Indiana scored a beauty from beyond the penalty box in the 72nd minute, followed by Hua's very own Marcelo Huanca in the 78th. Then during a Restresian attack, substitute Tio Howard lost the ball in a scramble to Ronaldinho Cancelo, who dribbled up the field, and passed a beautiful ball to Marcelo Huanca, scoring the goal that would put away the game for good in the 87th minute. Tio, in frustration, got another yellow for Restresas handed to him whenever he argued for a foul for too long. Many praises across Esportivan and Aianaian social media were made to both teams, with the handshake of captains Indiana Pablo and Abraham Mendoza even getting a trending on Esportivan social media.

The match itself was intense in the sense that offense was all over the place and the defenses were very solid, not in the physically intense games that many have come to recognize both teams for. The match was the perfect preparation for both teams, as Restresas began their way to the Baptism of Fire, looking much better than they did in the CE38, even in defeat.

The Langenian Team Going to the Baptism of Fire

Image

THE LANGENIAN NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM

The Langenian national football team has the distinction of being the pride and joy of the Republic of Langenia, a country where football is widely regarded as the national sport. Langenia's domestic football league is known for its passionate form of play called the Juego Bello, hardcore fanbases, and intense rivalries among clubs dating back decades. Although there are other popular sports in the country, namely gridíron and basketball, none of them come close to being as rooted into Langenian culture as futbol, as it is called in Langenia, does.

The national team, nicknamed Los Azules for their distinct blue uniforms, was formed with the purpose of playing neighboring nations around the same time football arrived in Langenia when the 19th century gave way to the 20th. In times of national hardship or division a competition in which the national football team participates is one of the few things that can closely bring the population together. Although it has participated in several competitions within its region over the decades of its existence, the Baptism of Fire is notable in that it is the first competition of its type Los Azules play in, a large one of an extra-regional scale.

Currently, in the wake of terror attacks in the major cities of Aragon and San Jose that led to war with neighboring Parador, as well as a divisive presidential election, it is the national hope that once again Los Azules will unify the country behind one banner and give it something to root for.

Notable Players and the Coach

Enrique Vargas - Manager/Head Coach

Enrique Vargas is the current manager of Los Azules, the Langenian national football team. As a player, he was known for being one of the country's most skilled midfielders, leading his club Atletico Terrate to become perennial contenders for the Liga Nacional championship title, as well as strong competitors in regional club competitions. Unfortunately, an injury cut his career short, and he turned to coaching. Initially starting out as an assistant coach with his former team, Atletico Terrate, he eventually accepted a head coaching position with Merida. He led the team to upset wins over Aragona and San Jose, usually the two strongest teams in the Liga Nacional, on the way to a championship title. After his stint at Merida, he was selected as the manager/head coach of the national team, a position he currently holds. Vargas is notable for introducing numerous reforms in his time as the manager for Los Azules, namely an additional focus on improving the capabilities of the defense as well as using the midfield to support the forwards by creating passing lanes to score. Nonetheless, he has maintained the traditional offensive-focused Juego Bello form of Langenian football.

Oscar Galindo

Oscar Galindo is a forward, currently the captain of the Langenian national football team. One of the "The Three G's" that make up part of Los Azules's attacking unit, he is often cited as an example of the attacking-minded form of football practiced by the Langenians. Right-footed and of short physical stature, his style of play is notable for for his agility and explosiveness combined with fast dribbling. Galindo is notable for being prolific in his attempts to score on the goal by penetrating through the opposing defense by dribbling, as well as attempting to create scoring chances as a playmaker for his teammates in a similar fashion. He currently wears the number 9 shirt and plays for the club Aragona.

Raul Guzman

Raul Guzman is a forward, wearing the number 10 shirt for Los Azules. Another of "The Three G's", the right-footed player is known for his flamboyant style of play that involves the use of elasticos, rainbow flicks, and step overs, making him often seen as a symbol of the Juego Bello form of football of the Langenian team. Along with Oscar Galindo, Guzman penetrates through the opposing defense to receive the ball from the midfield and create a scoring opportunity in a fast-paced attack. In a contrast to the short-statured Galindo, Guzman's height allows him to be effective when making headers. He currently plays for the club Silvana FC in the country of Relikai.

Daniel Gallegos

Daniel Gallegos is an attacking midfielder, wearing the number 12 shirt for Los Azules. Gallegos is part of "The Three G's" attacking unit, acting as a playmaker for the forwards Gallegos and Guzman. Left-footed, he is notable for his quick dribbling combined with the tricks and feints characteristic of the Juego Bello, initiating the fast-paced attacks of the Langenian form of football and crossing the ball to the strikers. Gallegos is also known for his powerful kick, allowing him to score from a distance away from the goal. This makes him the primary free kick taker for Los Azules. He currently plays for the club Athlitikos Apollonias in the country of Romaia.

Style of Play

Formation: 4-3-3
Style Modifier: +3

Image

The Langenian form of football is known for the flamboyant style of attacking that is its trademark, called the Juego Bello. The Juego Bello focuses on attacking the opposing side's goal through fast-paced dribbling and the use of tricks and feints such as elasticos and rainbow flicks, ultimately with the end of overwhelming the defense and opening up passing lanes to score.

To this end, Los Azules use a 4-3-3 formation, with an attacking unit of two forwards and an attacking midfielder at the head of the formation. This unit is the engine of the Langenian team on the field given its focus on offense and scoring a goal at any cost. Currently, the "Three G's" of Daniel Gallegos, Oscar Galindo, and Raul Guzman perform this role, penetrating through the defense to receive the ball from the midfield and score.

The midfield is the most versatile part of the team, with the Langenians deploying a central midfielder to act as a passer to the attacking unit at the front, supported by two wingers. It is on this section of the team that the fast-paced dribbling of the Juego Bello is carried out, with the midfield being responsible for initiating attacks. Despite having the role of passers, the midfielders are also an important part of the offense. It is not unusual for them to move up and act as a second wave of attackers after the forwards, overwhelming the opposing defense through speed and powerful shots from far out. In addition, if necessary they move back to reinforce their own defense when the Langenian goal is being attacked.

In the defense, two centre-backs and two fullbacks on the left and right flanks assist the goalkeeper in protecting the goal. Despite the Langenian style of football having a major focus on offense, the tenure of Enrique Vargas as head coach has seen Los Azules make changes to improve the quality of the defense, placing a focus on stopping the attack before it begins by reinforcing the defense with players from the midfield during an attack, thus outnumbering the attackers and intercepting passes to sweep the ball out back to the forwards. The four defenders are each assigned a specific zone to protect with the purpose of responding to any intruder within that zone, preventing them from dribbling towards the goal.

Banijan Surprise and The Last Day of Prep!

Postby Restresas » Mon Jul 15, 2024 1:20 pm

Lisade 17th, 1012 (Restresas's 24th month):

After a week to regain their composure, and with just a week away before they go to Tumbra for the Baptism of Fire, Restresas will walk into Banija for their last match before their major tournament, as Restresas takes on the 24th ranked team in the world in Banija. Organized specially by King Ineste the second from Restresas and Kabaka Mwanga as a commemoration of the nations before the World Cup qualifiers and Restresas's entry into the Baptism of fire, the emotions ran high for both sides as they took the pitch in Star Field at Herzegovina City, as the visitors welcomed the Squirrels with sunflowers and emeralds thrown onto the pitch before the game, a tribute to the nation that has aligned with Banija... and gained the respect of many across the footballing world. When the national anthems played, it was nothing less than passion when Banija's national anthem: "Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory" was played first, with the entire stadium, filled with passionate Banijans, sang their anthem with pride. Alongside that, the national anthem for Restrersas, "Glory to Restresas!" was sung with pride by the players, who are representing their nation not just for the first time outside their own continent, but on opponent soil as well, making the moment even more emotional.

For interim manager Todd Malembe of Banija, this was a test for him as he took the field for the first time as the Banijan manager after years of being the assistant manager. For Wesley, it's a chance to show why the Restresians belong at a high tier level, even if the Squirrels are unranked for the time being. The match was kicked off after all debris was removed from the field, with Banija maintaining most of the possession early on, while Restresas continued to chase those Kadongo Kamu across the field. The first brace was scored by Yob Yeyeh Aan, on a beautiful header on the corner, barely scraping by Marcus George in the 31st minute to give Banija the lead. With their experienced defense, Banija would not allow a lot of movement to their opponents, as Restresas carefully tried to maneuver around the very strong defense of Banija. While Pablo Albu and Stan Paul Cojocar came close in the 38th minute and 43rd minute respectively, Banija held on for long enough to have the lead heading into halftime.

The second half was more of the same, just a lot more back and forth, while continuing to not play scrappy. They both shared turnovers and skied balls over the net, and it didn't take too long for there to be another Banijan goal by Lavyin Son-Saka in the 53rd minute... until it was ruled offsides by a little margin. The rest of the second half was vertical, fast and exciting, and the Banijan fans kept roaring, rocking the stadium of Star Field all night long. It was vertical and aggressive, but neither side seemed to pull through... until a massive error by defenseman Opio Ssambwa, playing in his home stadium, who made a horrid pass down near their own goalkeeping range, and who else but Indiana Pablo swooped in and scored the goal that put the game at an even standpoint in the 82nd minute. From there... both teams knew that a mistake would cost them, so they treaded carefully, looking for the next major mistake on either side... and neither broke through or broke their form, leading to a 1-1 draw at Star Field, a result that both sides would take, considering their situations. Afterwards, respect from both sides came in, and it was a nice sight to see both teams not being enemies, but as more so friends... and as rumors of Indiana Pablo's departure to Banija continue, there was a lot of excitement outside the stadium for both sides.

Lisade 23rd, 1012:

The day of the first match in the baptism of fire, the opening match of the whole tournament, was between Restresas and Osterhalten, who were making their first appearance in an international tournament. On Restresas's end, they are excited, fired up, and ready to go for today's matchup against the Olsterhaltens. The press spoke to Wesley just a few hours before the match, and they asked how he feels about this team, and he responded like this: "I am happy about how focused our team is on this chance to win a championship, but they are not letting this chance get to their head. They are ready for whatever Oslterhalten is, and what they will bring to the table at Trenton Park. Rest assured, we learned from our mistakes last time on an international competition and are not ready to squander this opportunity we have in front of us today, when all of the world will be watching us play."

State-Approved Biography

The People’s Democratic Republic of Vdaran Western Territories
, more commonly known as West Vdara, is a small group of islands located off the west coast of Africa. Having separated from the Republic of Vdara during a period of political turmoil for the ruling communist party (KKV), many of the nation’s important left-leaning figureheads fled to the newly-established nation to ensure the continuation of an ideal socialist paradise as Crete and Cyprus began to seek more moderate politics. Since then, West Vdara has enjoyed a period of relative peace and isolation, with neither the Republic nor the West seeking any form of immediate unification - in fact, quite the opposite, despite some attempts to mend and strengthen the ties between the two. The KKV have easily sustained political dominance in the country, having won every election since 1995, leading many to label West Vdara as a dictatorial, one-party state. Despite this, the KKV maintains that all elections are free and fair, decrying all doubters as ‘agents of Chania’ and preventing independent observers from keeping an eye on things.

State-Approved Geographic Info

There are seven islands that make up West Vdara:-

- Nifaria: With a population of just under a million, Nifaria is West Vdara's largest and most important island, with all government business going through the capital city of Agios Stavros. Mountainous and agricultural, Nifaria serves as the nation's main source of sustenance, with bananas and fish serving as crucial parts of the West Vdaran palate. Most footballers from the squad hail from this island.

- Kanaria: Slightly smaller in both population and landmass, Kanaria could just as easily be called "Nifaria's wee brother". The island nonetheless serves as West Vdara's industrial hub, with factories and ports across the island allowing it to be the nation's transport and export hub.

- Ploufialia: Small and agricultural, Ploufialia is mainly known for its vineyards more than anything else. This does, however, mean that West Vdaran wine is quite divine.

- Ombrion: A rather unassuming island, Ombrion is primarily known for its avocados and cattle - as well as its volcanic activity, making the soil extremely fertile and thus very suitable for agricultural usage.

- Tzounonia: Miniscule and boring. Let's move on [NOTHING SECRET IS OCCURRING ON THIS ISLAND].

- Planasia: One of the larger islands by landmass (but not by population), Planasia's size and lack of population allows for it to be used as West Vdara's dairy and cereals capital, with nationalised cheeses and grains making their way to the rest of the islands from the various farms and mills.

- Kapraria: Tiny and forested, not much goes on here either, so long as you don't look in the- [NOTHING SECRET IS OCCURRING ON THIS ISLAND]

State-Appointed and Approved Staff

The government of the Vdaran Western Territories has made sure to appoint the best person from the job: Ivanis Grigorelis. Born on Tzounonia in 1972, Ivanis' humble upbringing and his parents' connections to the state allowed him to seamlessly rise through the ranks. Additionally, having been a long-time neighbour of the Minister for Sport, Culture, and Nationhood, it was inevitable that he would be given some form of government position - so why not management, one of the highest honours of them all? Furthermore, Mr. Grigorelis will be assisted by several men in immaculate suits and sunglasses, who we can call [REDACTED], but who you can call 'tactical analysts'.

State-Approved Permissions

Reluctantly, the West Vdaran government has agreed to follow the tournament regulations and provide a small permission slip. This must be adhered to, and detractors may be [REDACTED] by the Vdaran Information and Intelligence Bureau.

BoF, 2 days before MD 1

He exhaled, exasperated. His hands covered his forehead. For the third time that night, his doubts had become crippling. He took his hands off his face, sat up straight, and began fidgeting with his hands. "A Place Somewhere..." Nothing. No matter how hard Abraham looked, there was simply no trace of this team. Some evidence indicated that they registered for the cancelled "South Pacific Olympics" but there was no data there either. Some names, sure, but a search into these people revealed nothing. I have no plan, he thought, I don't even know if we can pull off a win, let alone blind. He sighed again, dropping his head onto his desk.

His moping was interrupted by the buzzing of his phone. It was Anon.

“Hey, what’s up?” Abraham asked.

“Juno was asking if you wanted us to do anything tonight,” Anon replied. “It is two days from the game so we were also wondering if you found anything about our opponents.”

Abraham chuckled. “No?” He broke out into laughter. “My god, there is just absolutely nothing about this team.”

“Tough shit,” Anon said. Abraham could hear his smile through the phone.

“Anyways yeah, just do some stretches and roll out, we’ll be doing some easy stuff tomorrow to get our muscles primed.”

“Thanks man.” They exchanged brief salutations and Anon hung up.

He sighed once again, putting his phone on his desk. He stared at his screen one more time, several tabs listing in depth and obscure history about topics related to A Place Somewhere. You know what, he thought, fuck this, I’m taking a nap.

A Great Leap Forward

For an extensive period of time, West Vdara has found itself isolated from the rest of the world in several ways. Naturally - as a result of its governance and history - trade, travel, and communication with most nations have all been strained, making participation in international football fixtures incredibly difficult... but not impossible. The disgrace of being perennially overshadowed by their former masters and capitalist pigdogs over in Eastern Vdara has forever cast a shadow over the nation, and many have even taken to (and say it quietly, now) supporting the treacherous capitalists. But no longer! The government has deemed the current arrangement unacceptable, and to improve the nation's morale and standing in the world the Vdaran Western Territories will participate in their first ever football tournaments. Of course, most people will have their eyes on the World Cup, but they will first have to deal with the Baptism of Fire. With their arch-rivals having participated in the tournament two cycles prior, the government has mandated that the squad must perform better than what Vdara achieved, lest they find themselves "relieved from their positions". All in all, a very cheery atmosphere indeed!

Heroes of the Proleteriat International Airport

West Vdara

The anticipation was beginning to get very real for both players and citizens as the team bus chugged its way towards the departures hall. As with many buildings in West Vdara, the largest airport was built several decades prior, poorly maintained, and smothered in propaganda posters, red paint, and boarded-up windows. Nobody really complained, though - partially due to the fact that this was the norm, but mainly because complaining would be futile, or indeed dangerous. Despite this, a crowd had amassed to see their soon-to-be heroes off, their eyes firmly locked on the slow and grubby bus that carried what would ultimately be the nation's main source of entertainment over the course of the next two months. After a while of troubleshooting an issue with the bus' door, the driver eventually gave up and booted it off its hinges, and out stepped the team's eighteen players and several staff members to the delight of the crowd - the atmosphere amongst the players, however, vastly differed.

"Pssst, Grigori. Isn't this all very weird? I haven't felt stares like this for god knows how long. It's like being back at school."

"Eh, Serafim? What kind of school did you go to where people stared at you?"

"...a normal school?"

"Doesn't sound like no normal school to me. Nobody stared at me like this."

"Perhaps nobody cared about you."

"'Perhaps' you should shut your mouth before anyone hears us talking nonsense!"

"Grigori, you know fine well that there is always someone around to hear us. It's great! One year, my state-appointed agent heard me talking about not knowing what to buy for my wife, and he slid a note through my mailbox! They're like gods... albeit, a lot more sinister. More human, though!"

"You talk the biggest load of shite I have ever heard."

As the team began to enter the airport, the crowd cheered. The West Vdaran National Secretary, who was evidently much cheerier than usual, was there to personally greet and shake the hands of each and every player and staff member, and nobody seemed to notice that the football scarf draped over his shoulders had misspelled Vdara as 'Vrada'. Even if they did, they didn't. This information would soon be [REDACTED], as is policy. Shortly after this display of unity - or whatever it is you want to call it - the team boarded the chariot that awaited them: a decades-old West Vdaran Air Service jet with four engines bolted to the rear of the aircraft. In the rest of the world, this design had been phased out years prior, but this is West Vdara, where technical innovations such as "underwing engines" and "functional electronics" had not yet arrived. There was, however, an enthusiastic group of cheery stewards and stewardesses who were excited to show the players just how good West Vdaran Air Service are.

"All comrades, your attention please! Welcome aboard this West Vdaran Air Service flight to Hapilopper City. Before this flight departs, we are bound by government regulations to provide you with the most detailed and honest safety demonstration possible. Please note that all recording equipment - should you possess such a thing - may be confiscated if attempts to document the flight are made. Now, please keep your eyes on our wonderful staff as we perform this demonstration. It is imperative that we inform you of the government's air safety statistics over the past year, so please keep in mind that only 21% of West Vdaran Air Service flights failed to make it to their destination, and of that 21%, only 9% resulted in more than 53 fatalities!"

The flight attendants smiled as if this was a statistic to be proud of. In some ways, it was - this was a decrease of more than 6% from two years prior.

"Should this aircraft suffer from a loss of oxygen in the sky, there is a chance that a mask may drop from above your head. Should this mask not drop, or indeed fail to inflate, do not worry! You will certainly not be the only passenger suffering from this predicament. In addition, should we end up in the sea, there may be a lifejacket located under your seat. If there is not, again, do not worry! You know how to swim. Thank you for choosing West Vdaran Air Service - the nation's best, and only choice."

Despite the doom, the gloom, and several loose or missing bolts, the flight took off without issue. Shockingly, it even landed without issue, to the relief of just about everyone bar one suicidal flight attendant who had somehow flown more than a dozen times without a single accident. Just your luck, I suppose. Fortunately, due to the West Vdaran fixtures taking place elsewhere, they were able to take a second, more reliable flight from Hapilopper City to the Hampton Cities, experiencing the joys of safe air travel for the first time. Another thing the West Vdaran players would experience for the first time is capitalism, so much so that the government had provided them with pamphlets of what to expect.

"What do you mean this place has a 'Liberal' party? Isn't that treacherous?"

The manager, Ivanis, groaned. This was going to be a long trip.

EMPERORS OF THE TOURNAMENT: Players to Watch Out For

Kiyoshi Ogawa - Known for his fast reflexes, he is the starting goalkeeper of Team Leaf. He has been one of the greatest goalkeepers of Leaf ever since when he studied in college. While being quite energetic, he is one of Leaf's top players. His saves have been amazing since his college times, and have improved ever since he joined the Leaf League and the National Team.

Shig Fujikawa - Young, athletic, speed, Shig got's it all. He's one of the most prominent defenders of Leaf. He has, like Ogawa, been one of greatest footballers of Leaf ever since he studied in college.

Kazuhiro Kato - One of the youngest, but also best players of the team. He was not just selected as captain just like that. He is known as the King of the Midfield by Leaf's supporters. His skills and his speedy, make him one of the best players of Leaf.

Sora Shima - The team's left wing, Sora Shima, may seem calm, but is considered one of the best defenders on the team. Since childhood, he's had a passion in football and wanted to play for the National team. His skills were good from when he studied in school, and became outstanding as he entered the pros.

Katsu Muranaka - Katsu, who had decided to drop out of college in his first week, is a great midfielder of Leaf, mainly known also for his speed, like Kazuhiro. Sometimes, with his speed, you forget the fact that he's a new player to the pros, having entered the Leaf League in 2023.

Raiden Nakayama - Focusing mainly on scoring, Raiden is a great forward when it comes to football, and also has scored the most goals for Kyoto Ultra Kings in the Leaf League. He's been in the pros since 2012, and now has gotten a chance to represent his nation in international football. He's been into football since childhood, and has always dreamed to represent his nation, and now that dream has come true.

Enomoto Kyo - Enomoto, a top goalscorer of Leaf much like Raiden, is a new player to the pros, having joined the Leaf League in 2023 with Katsu. After seeing his excellent performance in the Leaf League, the LNBF decided to give him a ticket to the national team. He was the first person not born in Sapporo to play in the Leafic Football club, Sapporo Capitals. Overall, he's an idol for a large part of Leaf's young football fans, although having been a new player. He both has speed, and both has ability to score.

JAVI RICALDE'S HATTRICK SHOW WITH A SPECIAL GUEST
Unification Stadium, Halsted, Hapilopper

Before the match, Hapilopper was full of passionate Panayenses coming from IBC 40 with the same drums and trumpets. They wanted a good run in the BoF as they say, and this opens up with a victory for the Panayenses against Chrizenia. It opens up with Ricalde's screamer on the first minutes of the game and showing the Chrizenians why he's the top goalscorer for the team by scoring 2 more goals from a corner kick, and a trick pulled on a Chrizenian goalkeeper. He ended every goals with his little dance. And an assist from the superstar to the substitute Alvarado Martinelli. Pierini was satisfied with the match, even the captain approved this performance. "Well, I just did my job for the team.", says Ricalde. "I mean, it was a good performance overall for my career." "I am very satisfied with the team's performance.", says Pierini. "Hope the rematch against Edsmontik would be the same as our match." "We want an undefeated streak!", says a fan but a friend of him said that it doesn't matter. The team will face their #1 rivals, Edsmontik at the same stadium.
