FAQ -- Capital City, Religion & Leader (READ BEFORE POSTING)

Postby SherpDaWerp » Tue Jun 22, 2010 9:23 am

There are a few queries each week regarding the capital city, leader and religion fields and typically over when they can unlock the fields and what "Awaiting Legislation" means for them.

There are three customizable fields in your Settings that are greyed out when you first create a nation. These settings may also be greyed out for nations that ceased to exist before the fields were introduced.

The population requisite is straightforward. You need x-number of citizens to qualify for the issue. That will change when your population is high enough to "Unlockable: Awaiting Legislation".

That is all right. It means your nation qualifies for the issue related to that field. [EDIT 30/04/2011: as per [violet]'s note below, you will receive the issue when you have the relevant population rather than waiting for it to be randomly given as it was before the update].

Receiving the issue does not automatically unlock those fields. You need to pick an option. UPDATE June 2024: Not all options will unlock the fields for your nation. Dismissing will also not unlock the field, though that behaviour is not new. Pop-up boxes will appear to warn you, if you are choosing an option that does not unlock the field. If you decided to select an option (or dismiss the issue) anyway but now want to fill in those fields, be patient, issues repeat. You just have to wait for the issue to reappear.

It was noted here that some times player either decide not to have daily issues or have checked off 'Vacation Mode' in their settings tab. If this is the case, in order to receive the issues for national capital, leader and/or religion you will need to uncheck that box or enable at least one issue per day.

If you wish to view the issues before you get them, or ask questions, you can click any of the links below, which will take you to the NationStates Issues **SPOILER ALERT** thread.

Capital City: Unlockable with 250 million citizens.
#241: A Capital City For @@NAME@@?

Leader: Unlockable with 750 million citizens.
#242: Follow The Leader

National Religion: Unlockable with 1 billion citizens.
#243: A Question Of Faith

That is all right. It means your nation qualifies for the issue related to that field. Your nation will be given that issue at random.

As of the next daily update, nations will receive the relevant "unlockable" issue as soon as they qualify for it, instead of having to wait for it to be randomly selected.

Because people complained about that a LOT.

As of semi-recently, the behaviour of the "unlockable" issues has changed again. Options that explicitly reject adding the new field will no longer unlock it for your nation. You will remain eligible for the issue to be randomly selected again, but this may take some time.

Options that do not unlock the field will present a popup warning when you select them notifying you of this change, as will dismissing the issue, regardless of whether you already have issue confirmation checked in your settings.

However, these popups will not display if you have JavaScript disabled. They will also not display for API users, but I am working on this at the moment, and will edit this post once that's finished.

As of today (25/06/24), the private API shard "issues" now supports <WARNING> elements. They will appear after the series of <OPTION> elements for issues where they are relevant, with inner text describing the warning, and an id attribute describing which option it links up to (or -1, if the warning is for the dismiss button). For example, Issue #132 World Assembly Woes will now appear as follows:

Code: Select all
<ISSUE id="132">
<TITLE>World Assembly Woes</TITLE>
<TEXT>After a very popular domestic bill was shot down due to contradicting existing World Assembly legislation on a similar subject, the Testlandia City Observer organized a national poll among subscribers. Leaders of the ‘National Sovereignty’ and ‘International Federalist’ camps are meeting in your office to argue their case.</TEXT>
<AUTHOR>sanctaria</AUTHOR>
<EDITOR>frisbeeteria</EDITOR>
<OPTION id="0">“Micromanagement, micromanagement, MICROMANAGEMENT!!!” your Minister for Domestic Affairs shouts, banging his fists on your table. “Those buffoons are seriously overreaching their authority! Every resolution that infernal Assembly passes is an attack on our ability to pass our own legislation! We can’t, and shouldn’t, have nations full of fools ignorant to our way of life make our decisions for us. We’d be better off without that godforsaken snakepit... we MUST resign from the World Assembly.”</OPTION>
<OPTION id="1">“Think of the CHILDREN”, cries Violet Larkin, your Foreign Minister. “Membership in the World Assembly is vital if Testlandia is to ensure that countries across the multiverse adopt a way of living that is right! I shudder to think of the awfulness that would happen in other nations without our guidance in the World Assembly. Please, Leader, we must remain a part of this organisation!”</OPTION>
<WARNING id="0">Are you sure you want to accept legislation to resign from the WA?</WARNING>
</ISSUE>
