New staff hierarchy (Jan 2024)

Hi all,

We've decided to reorganize who's doing what! Please see below for a new site hierarchy, if you're interested.

NationStates is heavily driven by team discussion and consensus, which means that most of our big decisions are made by group discussion and vote, not a single person in a chain of command. That isn't changing, but as we've grown to over 40 mods, admins, techs, and editors, it's become more useful to assign particular people to be in charge of particular things.

Major changes:

1. Sedgistan is appointed to a new Site Director position, the purpose of which is to provide high-level site management and help co-ordinate action between different parts of the team.
2. Eluvatar is elevated to the new position of Director of Technology to recognize the primary role he's played on our tech side for some time now, with an explicit level of authority above other admins and techs.
3. Reploid Productions is likewise recognized as Director of Moderation.
4. Verdant Haven is appointed Director of Content, and Issues is recognized as a core part of the site that doesn't naturally fit under admins nor moderators.
5. Similarly, Chingis is appointed Events Manager, and Events are recognized separately, rather than falling under admin or moderation.
6. Roavin is promoted from tech to admin, becoming our first new admin in a long time.
7. Pythagosaurus retires. Py hasn't been active for a while, but he was a key admin back when there weren't many of us.

The new hierarchy is largely about recognizing how we've already been operating for some time. I present it in the interests of transparency, not because anyone should expect big changes to how things work.

Truly a joy to see a known-transphobic moderator get elevated higher.

To make this post not just some sarcasm since I hit enter then realized this is indeed the moderation subforum- it is frustrating to see Sedge get elevated higher. His moderation, and the battle he picks, concerning transgender players and transphobia, leaves a lot to be desired. It was just a few days ago he popped in to get after Gameplay for pointing out a transgender DOS player's correct pronouns.
