Akresna Circuit Paddock, Archer Performance briefing room

"Alright gentlemen, decent result in practice, at most three tenths away from the lead. We take those. Anything you would like to change setup wise heading into qualifying?"

"The car feels a little too oversteery between 8 and 13. It just takes too long to set and allow me to go full throttle."

"Noted Pierre. We can probably tweak the rear suspension a little, but we have to be careful to let the aero work. Luke anything to had?"

"The car feels balanced but a quicker steering would be nice. Any changes to the ratio possible?"

"Sure thing we will look into it. Now go rest up and we will see both of you for qualifying."

----

Pierre-Louis was on his exercise bike when he got the call to get ready to jump in the car. There is always uncertainty when starting qualifying. Did your changes work or are you stuck in parc fermé with a lazy car? Did your opponents unlock more performance? At the end of the day though, qualifying puts it all in the hands of the driver. As he strapped in the car, he tried to remember all the intricacies of the track. With 20 corners all unique and challenging, the circuit was certainly one of the toughest he had driven on. Pushing the car to the limit also came with the ever looming track limits. Don't push them enough and a good lap can turn into a slow one, but push them too far and you will be lucky if all you get is your lap being deleted.

"Alright Pierre. Radio check. 30 seconds to session start. Remember track is long enough to find space, so no need to battle in qualifying."

And with that the start up sequenced commenced bringing the engines to life once more. Twenty seven cars found their way onto the track screaming into the Aurun countryside.

"We'll get about two or three push laps. Be mindful of traffic, but most of all drive fast", the voice said on the radio.

As the tires warmed up and he approached the line for his first flying lap, he hoped the changes had worked, but as arrived at turn 1, Valantov, the car felt like it didn't want to turn at all.

"Geoff, what is this? I missed the apex by a mile."

"Copy, we will analyse the data and discuss it later, now concentrate on putting in a lap."

The story repeated itself throughout the lap. Pierre-Louis would use the same markers he used in practice but the car would just understeer. With a disappointing lap, he brought the car back to the pits where he got even more bad news.

"Pierre, we are trying to save a set of tires for the race. Think you can go back out on the same set?"

He looked back at them in shock and could not find any words beside a grunt. In the back of his mind though, the young drivers had seen this type of thing before. When he first showed promise in karting, his dad would setup challenges for him to race with an handicap compared to other drivers to build his skills.

Pierre-Louis went out on the same set for a last attempt to get out of Q1 but the tires were not able to perform. Trying to overcome the understeer, Pierre had used so much steering lock that he had burned the front tires off only increasing the issues. Disgruntled, the 21 year old pulled off into the pits early. Mechanics rushed to the car, but the driver waved them away telling them nothing is broken. For his engineer, he had but three words: "Where is dad?"

"Up in the spotters nest"

Pierre ran through the paddock before getting stopped by a security guard. "Do you have credentials to go up there?", he asked. "Does this not look like credentials enough?", Pierre responded pointing to his racing suit.

He did not time his run up the flights of stairs but in retrospect, Pierre figured it might have been a record of some kind. But at the time he had other things in mind. Exhausted and winded, he locked eyes with his father in the viewing gallery overlooking parts of the circuit.

"I am tired of your games. Mind telling me what you did to my car?"

"All in due time, but I want you to look at this car that is coming up and tell me what you see."

"I see a car that freaking turns. I don't know. Are they running more front wing?"

"No, you see, they are using the pedals to turn the car. You have been used to cars that didn't need much trail braking and have gotten sloppy at it. So I tweaked the differential before qualifying so you can't coast through corners anymore."

"HUH!", Pierre screamed, drawing the attention of the other team representatives present. "And you couldn't tell me that while looking at data like a normal person? I'm going back to the hotel I need space."

The Akresna circuit is one that OCR has a lot of set-up data to rely upon and Jordan Crowe came in to the factory to talk to Sammi with Tracie joining in via video; he'd been 4th in free practice in both the last WGP2 season and in WGPC so he was able to provide insight as to how to attack the the layout that had a lot of similarities to Drummond Vale.

Carter felt good about herself and her driving despite how the first couple of rounds had gone for her personally, bolstered by her work at the Vale during the interim where she'd "unlearned" her habit of forcing the car onto the apex in slow corners. She also got a supportive message from Batu Tüvshinbayar, who was like a 'little brother' to her because of their relative closeness in age.

Tracie had done the team proud in Dod Rava with points finishes in both races, spurring the mechanics to re-double their efforts in support of the Valentian; Greg Oswald, the Chief Mechanic who'd been promoted from the existing group that had done two seasons of AOGP, pushed his group to not overlook any detail that might make the difference between winning and losing for either driver.

While the meteorological conditions were called "dry" for Free Practice, with blue sky and sunshine, the reality on the track surface was another matter as a heavy downpour in the morning left the circuit inundated by water, forcing the use of full wet weather tires at the outset of the session beginning at 11:00 am local time.

Following a session that served as an effective track drying which saw none of the 27 drivers break under the 2:00 barrier on a track where the previous WGP2 pole time was !:43.850, by 14:00 the surface appeared ready for qualifying; having adapted their data settings for the current iteration of the PRL04-02/1, they sent Tracie out for a quick run, followed by Sammi a lap later.

Sammi clicked from the time she exited the garage--the first (and only) driver to break under 1:53 in the first session, with Tracie earning 5th followed by the pair bookending Haru Jukkena in the top 3 in session 2; Carter went under 1:52 to top the third session while a blink of an eye kept Tracie from joining her teammate in the final shootout.

"Nice lap Sam."
Ray McFadden knew that his driver knew the result as soon as she crossed the line, so he teased her for just a moment.

"That's pole position. Pee One. Congratulations!"

"YEEEAAAHHHH THANK YOU!! I LOVE ALL OF YOU!!"

Curt Elson was the next voice in her ear.
"Brilliant lap Sammi, please bring the car home in one piece so we can all celebrate. Congratulations."

It wasn't the first time she'd earned pole in her career in a major open wheel series, having earned top spot in AOGP at Lopinka which is what had prompted her greeting to Lianna Rasianoara in the opening round when the latter took her maiden pole. The resulting hour of media attention and congratulatory celebration was fulfilling, but would mean nothing if she couldn't turn it into a strong run tomorrow. Maybe she could get her first WGP2 win just a week after Nick Unger.

"Sing to me, baby."

Ever since he first stepped into the cockpit of Archer Performance's challenger for the new WGP2 season, Luke Ochoa wanted nothing more than to be back behind the wheel of that gray car once again. He did eventually get his wish after going through most of the preseason tests that he had signed up for, but it didn't mean that the transition into driving the Archer car full-time was seamless. It was still Luke's first time driving a rotary engine, and though he felt that he had heard said engine singing to him, he still took his time deciphering the lyrics. And it looked like he still didn't understand the VSK's song come the start to the season in Hapilopper City as he was literally last in practice and only 16th fastest in qualifying. That said, Luke's teammate Pierre-Louis Archer was getting the absolute maximum out of the car, and he even won the actual race itself from 7th place on the grid. Luke was of course happy for his teammate, but considering his own fate in Hap City, dropping from 17th to 21st, he had to admit that he felt a little bit jealous. "Why wouldn't you sing to me like that?" he asked his car in parc ferme at the end of the race.

It wouldn't be until qualifying for the sprint session at the street race in Dod Rava that Luke finally felt that he was in sync with his car's rhythm. And even then, it appeared to be only a fleeting moment of understanding as Luke went nowhere in the actual sprint race. In fact, he once again lost places, and in the last few laps he was overtaken by his teammate Pierre-Louis for the final points-paying position. Once again, while Luke understood why it happened (Pierre was leading the drivers' championship at that point after all), he couldn't help but feel jealous that Pierre understood the VSK's song better than he did.

And then, in the feature race at Rawa, Luke Ochoa finally got what he had been waiting for from his car: he finally understood what she was singing to him.

In all honesty, it was a combination of Luke finally understanding how his car ticked and good strategy from the team that had enabled him to finish in 10th place in the Rawa feature race and earn him his first points of the season. It was a momentous occasion for Luke, not just because he had finally gotten his WGP2 campaign underway, but also because he knew that this was just the start of the symphony that he was about to conduct with his car. Now that he was finally in sync with the car and the engine, it was also time for Luke to blast up through the rankings.

And it couldn't have come at a better time for Luke as the calendar was about to take them to a place where he was actually looking forward to racing. Luke knew that he had made a lot of noise about not being able to win a race in the Aurun WGP3 Championship but there had been races in which he had come close, and the Akresna Circuit was one of those places. On that occasion, a certain Iina Konoa had beaten Luke to the punch, and it looked like there was a potential for history to be repeated between the two. It wasn't a sure thing just yet though; the weekend had only barely begun. But now that Luke understood his car, it was time for him to believe. Archer Performance were after all right in the thick of the constructors' fight, and it was time for Luke to throw himself right in.

"Sing to me, baby," Luke whispered to his car as he got inside the cockpit.

Rawa before the feature race.

Because the race was held in her home country, she was able to meet her family. They had dessert and coffee in one of the many cafes in the old town with her father, mother, brother, and sister.

"How's home?" Julita asked her mother while sipping coffee.

"Well, fine, I'm relaxing with your father," she went on to say. Her mother returned her gaze to Julita, then to her two older siblings. "Christopher and Olive are at work most of the time, but they come visit us when they can, You could also drive by or call more frequently."

Julita let out a sigh. She didn't like this discussions; she felt strange, as if something was turning in her stomach. "Mom you know how it is... every now and then I'm somewhere else, I'm constantly busy, when the season ends I'll visit you guys."

She had a feeling that her mother was worried about her, that she was quite anxious that her youngest child had left home so qucikly, as well as her being uneasy that Julita was in the midst of so many spotlights.
The atmosphere was a little awkward at first, but it eventually settled down. They talked for a further hour while eating dessert and drinking coffee. When the meeting was coming to an end, Julita paid for the meal.

"You didn't have to pay for us Julita really..."

"Don't thank me, Mom; you're welcome." A warm smile appeared on Julita's face

They all stood up and were about to leave when her mother intervened she had something else to say and more than one thing to give. She pulled bags full of jars containing juices, jams, and other homemade preserves from under the coffe table. And handed them to Julita

"For you, from your grandmother, she couldn't come so she gave you something good, quince juice your favorite you can pour into your tea, there is also milk, plum jams, grandmother packed everything in there."

"Oh my goodness, tell grandma that I'm very grateful..."

They spoke for a while longer before saying farewells and leaving Julita with bags full of food. Away from her hotel in the center of Rawa. She picked up the heavy bags and crawled slowly to the Paddock, it was pointless for her to walk trought the entire city, somebody would drive her there later. Taking longer than the entire family meeting, she made it to the paddock. As she moved between the engineers with her bags full of grandmotherly gifts, there were a few amusing comments comparing her to an old lady who appeared to have bought out the entire marketplace. Lafleur smirked as she saw her pulling the heavy bags, she wasn't the only one. Julita simply rolled her eyes, put away her luggage someplace in the corner, and went to change her clothes and get set up for the next session.

Tropicorp VilBev: Akresna Preview

Postby Tropicorp » Sun Oct 29, 2023 5:19 am

Image

Aurunair WGP2 Race of the Hills, Akresna International Circuit, Akresna, Auruna :: Despite the teams poor performance during the previous sprint-feature race weekend in Dod Rava, and the fact that Tropicorp VilBev GP2 were the only team on the World Grand Prix 2 grid to have failed to score even a single point up to this point in the season, there was still some optimism for the team heading into Auruna. It was a circuit that the team had plenty of comparison data from and one that Juracai Klianiota felt they could have an advantage over some of their competitors after preparing heavily for the race with former teammate iBen Toralmintii. After the whirlwind of events that left Klianiota rapless and out of a rid at HMG Grand Prix despite a runner-up finish in the season opener, Klianiota barely had time to get a seat fitted ahead of the Dod Rava race weekend and the teams performance reflected the lack of preparation. Now with some time to have prepared and focused, the team would finally have an opportunity to see what the pairing of the experienced Juracai Klianiota and the defending WGP2 Constructors runner-up team could do.

Tropicorp VilBev GP2 also had reason to be excited about the return to Auruna as they had managed a spot on the podium one season prior during World Grand Prix 2 season 5. Although they had a completely different driver lineup, the VilBev machine made its way up to the third position with Ryden Solow behind the wheel in a race that was won by Kaylan's Darian Vilau. As the circuit has regularly hosted events in both the World Grand Prix 2 and World Grand Prix Championship schedules, it is often seen to be a good indication of which drivers might succeed at the next level. Looking back at the results from the previous World Grand Prix 2 season would be no exception as behind Vilau, who promoted to the World Grand Prix Championship Season 20, was Adonis Fitzpatrick the UrGa Motorsports driver who was able to help their team to the World Grand Prix Championship constructors title during their first ever season at the top level of competition. Now, over 20 drivers will be taking to the track for the first time looking to prove that like Vilau and Fitzpatrick they are deserving of a quick promotion to the World Grand Prix Championship for Season 21 of competition.

Throughout practice and qualifying there was one name that stood way above the rest and that is Samantha Carter. The Orange Cow Racing GP2 driver was consistently fast in practice and then incredibly even faster in Qualifying, posting the top speed in all four rounds of elimination qualifying to take pole position and top spot on the grid. Carter will certainly be looking for a promotion within the Orange Cow setup for the coming season and a dominating victory from pole position at the Akresna Circuit would certainly put a step in the right direction toward that goal. Right behind Carter on the grid, however, will be Juracai Klianiota. After posting the third fastest time in qualifying, Klianiota and the Tropicorp VilBev GP2 team are clearly back in form and looking to take advantage of the speed they have shown at the circuit in the past and the transfer of knowledge from Klianiota's partner at Race Eelandii to - at the very least - put something on the board in regards to points on the season for Tropicorp VilBev GP2. Klianiota's teammate the rookie driver Indori Volcanasaur was still struggling to learn the ever-winding 20-turn International Layout and was eliminated after the second round of qualifying, set to take the grid in the 16th position. While Klianiota sits at the top of the grid with their sights on chasing down Carter and battling for a race victory, Volcanasaur and the #44 team will have far more modest goals, just looking to sneak inside the Top 14 to score their first ever World Grand Prix 2 points.

Starting offset from Carter and Klianiota on the grid will be the Nexus Racing driver Haru Jukkena. Like Carter and Volcanasaur, Jukkena has struggle in the opening rounds of the season scoring just a single point and will be under great pressure to defend their spot to secure Nexus Racing's first podium finish of the season. Jukkena retired on the opening lap of the WGP2 Grand Prix of Rawa and will certainly be anxious to get back on track and enjoy the racing action for a full grand prix in Auruna.

It is anticipated that drivers will be a little more cautious at the start of the Aurunair WGP2 Race of the Hills after the WGP2 Chairman Ralph Day-Evans issued a warning to the field regarding fair play and sportsmanship, urging all drivers to be respect their fellow competitors both on and off the track. With the majority of the drivers in the field competing in their first full season of Internationstatal Motorsports competition, it is no surprise that tempers, emotions and maturity have run a little thin at times and Day-Evans is likely looking to get ahead of any future incidents with the warning that disciplinary action may now be on the table if competitors continue to bring the WGP2 brand into disrepute. If the drivers can keep their noses out of each others tails on the opening lap of the WGP2 Race of the Hills they will have at least taken a first step into earning some of the respect back from the Chairman that they seem to have squandered away in Dod Rava.

Tropicorp have also announced that despite the adverse weather conditions recently cited throughout Atlantian Oceania, they expect no issues ahead of the Tropicorp Grand Prix Deux event, having utilized experimental Geoengineering techniques to largely maintain seasonal conditions in and around Tropicoast and its major port access on Turoki Isle ensuring no disruption to flights and hotel reservations in the Mavaloiao area.

"It should really have been Sophie," Kelly overheard two of the race engineers talking over coffee on the morning of the Aurunan round of the championship. "The car was built for her."

"Well, what happened, happened. And let's not forget, she did get two podiums, too," said the other race engineer. Kelly took a surreptitious peek at the identity of the two engineers. The one who'd began the conversation was Kevin, who was one of Antonin's race engineers; the other was Barbara, who was one of Nini's race engineers. Both had been part of Sophie McCreary's crew last season; for Pressley's tumultuous start to life in WGPC. Kelly hid behind a potted plant and decided to listen in, while munching on a crossaint.

"She did alright, I suppose. But she would have done much better with a season in WGP2, getting ready for WGPC," said Kelly, taking a sip of her coffee.

"I agree. But again, what happened, happened, and, well, we've got Nini and Antonin now."

"Not to mention a massive ass at the helm."

"Hey, be quiet..."

"He's not here this weekend. I can say whatever the fuck I want, so long as the media don't hear. Y'know, I should try to seek employment elsewhere. I hear TRAE's hiring..."

"TRAE? Why would they hire outside of Aboveland?" quizzed Kevin.

"I hear there's something brewing, but...I can't say what. Yueren whispers."

"Well, better move fast if so."

"Last season really felt like a missed opportunity. We — well, the old man thought Yannec was fast, and he scored six points all season. We could've gone for someone experienced — hell, someone like Vialiv, even..."

"That's why they're changing course, Barb. We've got Nulkeschlager, and they're tapping up Archer...or if either of Nini or Antonin prove fast enough, we could promote either one of them."

"If we make it to next season without having to nurse on the tit of that twat. He might make us put JJJ in the second seat."

"Kim's an asshole, but he's not dumb. JJJ's patently not fast enough for anything."

"I don't trust him. He's too unstable. You know, there are reports that there are tons of rare earth materials in Antonin's home country. I wouldn't be surprised if..."

"If?" Kevin enquired.

"If Antonin was put there just so Kim could have access to his country. You know why Kim isn't here, right? He's finalising a deal to start a company that'll basically have a chokehold on the country's economy. Extracting, manufacturing, exporting. It'll become his little fiefdom."

"They won't let him do that."

"Money talks."

"Well, fun conversation." Kevin emptied the last dregs of his cup. "I'll talk to you later."

"Same."

After they were gone, Kelly peered out from behind the potted plant. Sure, she wasn't that avid a reader of the Couno Herald, but was Thomas Kim's plan to put Antonin Yeats Durand in the team's second seat really just a ploy to get him more influence geopolitically? She felt a bit woozy all of a sudden; she was just a glorified middle manager, not a pawn in some hare-brained international manufacturing scheme...

Akresna Circuit
Akresna, Auruna

It wasn't long until Iina got her best result in WGP2, it was only the second weekend when Iina, to her complete surprise, won her first race. She was in disbelief after crossing the line before finally accepting the fact that she won and got the fastest lap alongside it. She was just ecstatic in the moment she didn't expect to arrive this early in her WGP2 career. She thoroughly enjoyed it with her team, celebrating, including her teammate, Jhannis who finished third, and it continued as they went on the podium, spraying champagne at each other. The feeling was satisfying and Iina wanted more.

Even though they fumbled in the following feature race with Iina earning a single point, her sprint win was enough to make it a good weekend.

While it's not as valuable as a feature win, a win is still a win.

The next race was something Iina was looking forward to: her home race in Akresna, a place she knows well and a place where she needs to do well. Expectations were high for someone who won here before and with several of Viska representatives as well was from other MNA teams watching, she is willing to show everyone what she could do at home. After an extensive and thorough practice session, it was time for qualifying. Iina and VSK as a whole was well-prepared this time as both Iina and Jhannis got through to Q4 where they attempt to take pole.

Before Q4 started, Iina hyped herself up at the driver's quarters, listening to some of her favourite music on her phone until she was ready just in time as Oiva went to fetch her. There was no need to talk that much when Oiva arrived, Iina just grabbed her gear and got up. "Let's go." She said before walking into the garage to which Oiva just simply followed.

Iina saw her car, that blue car filled with fox motifs on its livery, all prepared and ready to go as its rotary engine ran idle, waiting for her. She approached the car to hop inside, giving it a few revs after she was seated and strapped in. Then Q4 finally started, her car was soon fitted with a set of soft tyres before being set down by the mechanics so that she could head out and do her qualifying laps to finally see who will get pole position. As she heads toward the pit exit, Oiva came on the radio to wish her luck just as she pushes it upon exiting the pit lane.

The competitions she has is tough with the strongest among the bunch being Samantha Carter who topped the previous qualifying sessions and was looking to top this one as well. Iina would hope to at least get close as she guided her car around Akresna for several laps, setting a few competitive times but she was not alone with other drivers, including fellow Aurun Haru Jukkenna doing one better than her despite his struggles. It was just an intense session as they came within a couple of tenths within each other. But in the end, despite her best efforts, she had to make do with fifth. It was not a bad performance coming from her, in front of a home crowd.

After the team debrief, Iina finally had some time for herself and she already knew what she was going to do after an intense day. Walking down the facilities of the circuit, she reached the circuit's sauna which was surprisingly unoccupied at this time even after she looked around the different sections, she knew that she had the place all to herself for the time being. Taking this rare opportunity, she immediately took a spot and relaxed, making herself comfortable and with a great qualifying result from her, she felt that she deserved this even if she couldn't take pole and it being quite early to celebrate with the race yet to happen the following day.

But for now, some peace and quiet in a well-deserved rest.

Turns out Luke Ochoa might still have to work on harmonizing himself to the tune that the VSK engine at the back of his Archer Performance car was singing to him.

Luke just couldn’t believe his luck. His body was ready, as the saying went. He was ready to restart his little “rivalry” with Iina Konoa dating back to the Aurun WGP3 Championship. Strictly speaking though, even Luke wasn’t sure if it could actually be called a proper rivalry since Iina had only been a contender for the drivers’ title for one weekend before falling away in favor of Hui Chen. It may not have felt that way to most people, but on that fateful weekend in Akresna, Luke wanted nothing more than to get that victory and stamp his authority over the competition. It didn’t pan out that way for him, of course, but boy did he come close to doing exactly that.

And now, here they both were on a bigger stage about to embark on round two of that “rivalry.” At this point, Luke doubted if Iina even recognized that there was someone else on the grid who wanted to take the fight to her, especially given that this was her home circuit, but wouldn’t it be so perfect if this was the moment that Luke reignited that fight between them? Again, WGP2’s arrival at Akresna couldn’t have been better timed for Luke as he really felt that he was finally getting in tune with his car. Maybe not in terms of one-lap pace as he could only make it as far as P14 to start off the race, but with Iina up in P5, the gap didn’t seem that insurmountable in Luke’s opinion. However, before he could even bring the fight to Iina up front, Luke would first have to deal with one Vincent Von Visp right in front of him.

Before the Akresna race, Luke had only heard whispers of rumors about Von Visp and his behavior, how the Recuecian had sent pacifiers to a number of younger drivers on the grid proclaiming that they were no longer in the schoolyard and that he was coming for them all. At least one driver definitely didn’t take kindly to the threat and responded with a middle finger at Von Visp at the end of the Dod Rava race, resulting in a sternly worded statement from the WGP2 leadership about how gamesmanship had no place in the competition. But given that Luke was going to start the Akresna race right behind Von Visp, he had no idea that he was about to be treated to a display of the Recuecian’s ruthless and aggressive side. Von Visp managed to claim two places at the start of the race, and Luke took advantage and followed Von Visp through to also overtake Brolli and Rasianoara, and then with Von Visp right on the tail of his UrGa teammate Kalhu coming out of Kolantalla into Turn 4, Von Visp took out Kalhu literally right in front of Luke. “Hey, that one UrGa just crashed into his teammate!” he cried out on his radio. “What the hell is going on here?! That has to be a safety car or something!”

But no safety car came out to bunch up the field, and Vincent Von Visp went on his merry way seemingly without any penalty. And now that Luke had seen the lengths to which Von Visp was willing to go to maintain or advance his position, the Fleftic driver realized that he was not going to be able to challenge Iina up front so long as he was within proximity of Von Visp. Luke did think that he would finally be free to move further up the field once Von Visp went in for his pit stop, but those hopes were dashed when Luke’s own pit stop brought him right back behind the Recuecian once again. “Dammit, I might have to go for it after all,” Luke said to himself as the laps ticked down to the end of the race. He was supposed to be up front with the likes of Konoa and Illykur, who were running the same VSK engines that Archer Performance was. He wasn’t supposed to be staring at the rear diffuser of the lone remaining factory UrGa in the race and potentially fearing for his race and even his own life. But if he did want to climb up the field, Luke knew that he would have to fight with Von Visp one way or another.

Luke would have to find the right place and time to do the overtake though. None of the braking zones appealed to him since he knew that Von Visp would most probably just crash into him if Luke tried to make a move in such an area. So it would have to be on one of the straights. Either the main straight or the one between turns 19 and 20 would do, and Luke began setting himself up for the overtake on Von Visp. His battery was still three-fourths full so he definitely had more than enough power to get past the Recuecian if Luke made the right moves at the right time. Both men had decent exits out of Kaulinta, and Luke immediately deployed his battery as he settled into Von Visp’s slipstream. Luke could see the coming overtake in his mind’s eye, drawing level with Von Visp in the middle of the back straight before finally pulling ahead just before they got to Entenalla. And reality was playing out in a similar way, the only difference being that Von Visp had moved to the left to cut off Luke’s attempt. And then, with the final turn on the circuit approaching, Von Visp slammed hard on his brakes, causing a lock-up on all four of his wheels.

“Hey!” Luke cried out. “He brake tested me!”

“We saw it, Luke, don’t worry,” his engineer replied. “Head down, you’ll get him next time.”

Von Visp’s cheeky maneuver had cost both of them on the exit of Entenalla, but Luke was still somehow better positioned to take advantage if he could. However, despite the damage to his tires (or maybe even because of it), Von Visp still had the gall to weave in front of Luke not once, but twice. “Screw this guy!” Luke said as he backed off of the chase before Turn 1. “He’s gonna kill me if I try to overtake him.”

“Okay! Forget about him!” his engineer said. “We’re still on course for some points today. If trying to get past Von Visp threatens that then don’t do it. We want you back in one piece. Don’t risk it.”

“Copy,” Luke nodded. “That man is a menace,” he said to himself.

There once was a lily. A lily whose petals rivaled the sun, and whose beauty beguiled all. As she sprouted and grew in a field of a million siblings, she would be the only one to enthrall. Now, the lily had an owner, and this owner was very happy with the lily. He had an idea: why not show the world the allure of his lily? And so he did. Around the universe he went, bringing the lily along with her. She would go about the whole world, her beauty paraded for everyone to see. People would look at the lily and fall in love with her, for where else would one find such a beautiful flower?

Many were filled with admiration, and some were filled with envy, but was there anyone else other than me, who felt an unwavering desire for this lily?

People say curiosity got the better of me, but I say it's desire. It's longing that grabbed me by the neck and enchanted me to this lily. A flower was nothing without its petals, and who would dare to defile such a captivating lily? Whilst everyone was busy in their own minds, I made my way to the lily, and observed it. Immediately, I could sense that it wasn't being well taken care of. The leaves were slightly decoloured, and the stem weak in my touch. In the darkness of the night, I took the lily from its pot, and held it.

As if entranced, the lily suddenly sprang to life in my hand. It looked even more beautiful than before, as if it was just freshly picked from a sea of equally beautiful flowers. Just then, I had the urge to go even further. This lily in my hands, so beautiful and vivacious, was better left in my hands. So, I brought the lily home when no eyes were watching.

As I lay in my room, I observed the flower one more time. I looked at its petals. Their whiteness was purer than fresh snow, and its texture softer than a mother's touch. Feeling the lily's petal in my hand, a curiosity overtook me. It was a morbid curiosity, a strange desire. This lily was beautiful, but what if I made it even more so?

I picked out a petal.

Pluck. One.

Immediately, the lily had already lost her beauty. There was no more perfection, only contamination. A lily without a petal was not a lily. She was an imposter, an imperfection who could never be perfect again. There was no lily that could regrow her petal. However, there was a certain appeal to the deformity to me. There was an innate charm to this desecration. After all, has anyone seen a lily without her petal? The lily I held in my hand was exotic, and something completely new not just to me, but to the world. The strange desire that had overtook me before engulfed me again, and I plucked out another petal.

Pluck. Two.

In my left hand was the defiled lily, and my right, her petals. The lily. The lily, who was now an abomination, stared to me, as if crying about her petals. She was foreign to me. She was disgusting, but somehow I felt a faint emotion of... love. Love, for this lily that had her face dirtied, her beauty destroyed by me. How could she look so perfect even when she was besmirched by my touch? I looked at the two petals that lay on my right palm. Those were the traces of the allure the lily used to represent, but now she was in my room, having her image be tainted by me. I carried on.

Pluck. Three.
All three petals removed from the lily's beautiful face, her three sepals left at my mercy. I looked at the lily. Slowly but slowly, she was being revealed to me. All of her insides that I wouldn't have seen if I hadn't brought this lily with me. Now, the lily didn't just look desecrated, but also... empty. I had taken away her everything, even though she had more to lose. Her petals that made her who she used to be was now being torn apart because of me. Still, whatever regrets I had soon subsided as my ever-thirsty curiosity came back. Why did I want to bare the lily even more? I looked at my hands, except they weren't mine anymore. They were moving on their own will, on their own volition. They weren't my hands; they were just hands now. What were they doing? I wondered. As I stared on at my hands, they proceeded to strip away at the lily. Why couldn't I stop them, or why didn't I stop them?

Pluck. Four. Five. Six.
The right hand plucked out the remaining sepals. One, two, three, four, five, six petals lay on the right hand that night. I lay them on the counter in front of me. I placed the depetaled lily beside the petals. She lay only so limply, all her life, identity, beauty and courage torn away from her to reveal her bareness inside. Revealed now was her stigma. Her stigma that she had hid in herself for so long, having to keep up her bright, illuminating image as a lily, was now bare.

I looked at the lily. She was ugly, but beautiful. Defiled, but sanctified. Empty, but full. Everything, and nothing.

I looked at the lily again. Now that I plucked her from her plant, she could never grow her petals back. She could not grow her pure, innocent petals back. She was not a lily anymore.

I looked at the lily once more. I admired her. I have admired her. I've taken in her barren beauty, but what beauty was there to take in when she had nothing? She lay on the counter, with nothing to show except her unearthed stigma. Stigma. Her stigma. Disgust, hatred, impugnance. Fear, loneliness, cowardice. Those were her stigmas. Those stigmas that she was hiding from everyone for so long, but I was the one to uncover. Somehow, I didn't really like it. I didn't care much about what she was hiding, but what she had shown: her petals. But now, it was all useless. I tore her petals apart. I tore its petals apart. It was not a lily anymore.

I looked at the lily once again. Suddenly, it didn't look beautiful anymore. It didn't look sanctified anymore. It looked sad, lifeless and naked. What I saw was not the lily that bloomed in my hands. It was nothing. It had no name, for it had no identity or meaning to it. What was a flower without its petals?

I threw the lily away, keepings its petals. They served as reminders of the lily it — she — once was. I sighed.

Well, there are better lilies out there.

Preston Towers, Hapilopper City
A few days after the Race of the Hills
Shawn Hammer was called into Jim Preston’s office for a brief meeting, and fortunately, Jim Preston didn’t look all that peeved. Instead, he had a strange smile on his face. Apparently after the race in Auruna, Kenny Wilson and Marty Lewis, feeling the spirit of HMG Grand Prix, decided to record what was considered a “diss track” directed towards Vincent Von Visp and the UrGa team.

“This is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard,” Jim Preston said. “Just listen.”

[Verse 1, Kenny Wilson]
Hey yo, shout out to Vinny Von Visp
Such a miserable prick, drivin’ like a total twit
Gonna run me off track, flip me the bird
Hey guess what asshole, you nothin’ but a turd
You wanna try me, go right ahead
Because I’m gonna punch you out instead

[Chorus, sung by Marty Lewis for some reason]
Kenny, Kenny Wilson
Faster, faster than you know
Kenny, Kenny Wilson
Your heroes are too slow

[Verse 2, Kenny Wilson]
Where I come from, we handle our deals
Ain’t gonna whine, we gotta be real
I’m not gonna cry to the WGPC
That ain’t no good when you’re in rent-free
And that’s what I am to Vinny Von Visp
He starts shit, I’mma make him crisp

[Chorus, sung by Marty Lewis for some reason]
Kenny, Kenny Wilson
Faster, faster than you know
Kenny, Kenny Wilson
Your heroes are too slow

[Verse 3, Kenny Wilson]
And this one goes to that weird red team
Team champs last year, now a meme
Maybe you’re goin’ for me, how cool
But good luck drivin’ that cesspool
Lost the Skychief, now you’re pissed
That what you got ain’t worth shit

“So, you gonna fire him?” Shawn said.

“Hell no,” Jim Preston responded. “They had the audacity to do this. I’m giving them both a bonus for having the balls to do it.”

The diss track, titled “Vinny and the UrGas”, was released through Stone Records and soon made it to most music streaming services and video sharing sites.

Akresna Auruna
Aurunair WGP2 Race of the Hills

At this point in his WGP2 career, Haru wasn't expecting much from himself performance-wise after struggling in the previous seasons and now he's just demoralised as he felt that he's not going anywhere now with nothing he could do. He was unsure what went wrong, maybe the step up was sudden but he went through a few seasons now and he himself was expected to improve. He has the experience and skill to be able to win but maybe his turbulent mind is affecting his control of the car and it probably got worst overtime. Considering it, he feared that this may be his last season with Nexus if not with WGP2 in general.

But maybe there's still hope as for the third race of the season, WGP2 is headed to Auruna, Haru's home race.

It was a fine and familiar day in Akresna and for Haru, he is quite unsure if he should be looking forward to qualifying since his performance's current trajectory is not going well and he has yet to do well in Akresna, at his home race, after it returned to the calendar in the previous WGP2 season where Haru was nowhere to be found in the top 10 and it being in the middle of his streak of disappointing performances. It was just embarrassing for him. He became quite anxious to get out as he knew that a lot of eyes are on him, looking to see how he would do in Akresna this time.

Before heading to the circuit, Haru decided to take some time off for himself in preparation for qualifying hoping to see if he could finally get it together and actually do something significant on track. After getting up earlier than usual and taking a good look at the view from his hotel room, he headed off to explore the city of Akresna, something he hadn't done before and it looks like now is the perfect time to do so.

Akresna definitely felt different, to him at least. For a large city, it felt at lot more peaceful than Livonsk. It was comforting to him, making him want to stay and live there as he strolled around the streets of the city, passing by cafes, restaurants, and several motorsport-themed parks. He didn't have much time to check it all out but he already knew what to do if he visited the city after this WGP2 season. Maybe he just needed to take a break... After grabbing a cup of coffee at a local cafe, he rushed off toward the circuit just in time to finish his preparations for qualifying.

As qualifying began, Haru first spoke to the crew about his car's setup and such before getting in, the usual routine. He waited for an ideal time to head out, he was patient, until his engineer notified him and giving the signal. The tyres were fitted then Haru was sent out, focused but still quite nervous but ready to accept whatever that happens. He couldn't back out now.

Soon, Haru's timed lap started and to his surprise, he has a strong control over the car as he guides it through the hills of Akresna. It was never like this before and it only confused Haru even more, not knowing what is going on with him. Still, he pushes through with it, using all of the greater control that was given to him at this moment. It felt planted, it felt quick and before he knew it, he was already at the third and final sector to close out his lap. This was his first time experiencing something like this and it was like the car was reminding him something as he rounds the final corner, Entenalla, to see the finish line come into view. And after crossing it, a vague voice spoke to him in his head.

Unleash what you can do. Let's finish this.

Haru manages to get through Q1, Q2, and Q3 with ease, consistently repeating his feats and gradually keeping up with the driver who topped all sessions, Samantha Carter. Then the fourth and final qualifying session came, his last chance to snatch away pole from Carter as he pushes his car and himself near the limits after being given a chance. Terä! Terä! Terä! (Go! Go! Go!) He yelled out in his thoughts as he focused on ahead and soon, he finally reached the end.

"1:51.661" Haru was told by his race engineer. "That places you second to Samantha Carter."

At the end of qualifying, Haru was quite happy for himself. He never felt so accomplished as he qualified well in his home race even after how the entire session suspiciously went well for him. It was unusual. But the worries for the next day settled in quick as it was the actual race. He didn't what to expect then and maybe it was going to return to normal, with his good qualifying being just a one-off. He was just going to see it through.

Whatever happens...

The following day kept giving Haru surprises as soon after the start, he overtook Samantha Carter at Valantov, taking P1 for himself, fighting off any opportunities by other drivers with some skillful defending that no one, not even Haru himself, was expecting him to pull off but he just did. Cheers roar from the grandstands as he fiercely defends his place during the rather close opening laps of the race. He pushed his advantage even further following a good call into the pits to change into some mediums, the compound he rarely preferred considering his driving style. He just hoped that they will last as long as he wanted them to.

As things went well for him, regaining P1 after a few laps, his new threat from behind are the two VSKs that are chasing him down with Jhannis Illykur being the closest one as Iina Konoa fought off a Gajamina. Haru, after making sure, ignores what's happening behind him as he does his final push before saving his tyre's life for until the end. Using up the chance, he just hoped that Illykur's pace wouldn't be enough to catch up to him as his tyres are now just barely hanging on.

It's all up to the final lap, the VSK is gently closing in, looking to be in the same state has Haru but he, the Nexus, and the tyres held on well as the finish came in sight with relief rushing through Haru after crossing the line in first. Something that he wanted for so long, he finally got it. The cheers towards him grew louder as his team congratulates him. He was overwhelmed with various emotions that he didn't know how to react but he felt good, he felt satisfied, he felt accomplished. It felt like it was deserved after what he went through. It was something that he could celebrate and he did just that at the podium ceremony, spraying champagne and letting out his excitement amongst the continuous cheers of the crowd.

Lukkoitsia, lunastaa. (Finally, redemption.)

Part 6: Life Is...

"Congratulations!" her team was telling her as Jhannis Illykur got out of the car. She had somehow, against all odds and expectations at home, finished in second place in the third race of the season. Starting in seventh place, she had hung around with the rest of the field for most of the race before making her move - and almost caught the leader, before finishing in second.

Still, for her to finish on the podium after doing so well on the Sprint Race the race before showed that VSK had been right in signing her, and she now had an eight point lead on Istd, which gave House Illykur the lead in the Dance of Ravens up to this point.

She took in the result and celebrated with the VSK crew, basking in the result. They had shown that they could hang with the rest of them - and they would build on this to try to replicate it in the future.

Subconsciously, she scanned the crowd for Istd - and noticed that he had finished in eighth place. He was also starting to get better - this was going to be close, after all. Her eyes caught his, and he held her gaze for a long moment before slowly nodding. Her attention got distracted by her team after that, but in that long gaze, she felt something that she hadn't ever considered.

Her heart skipped a beat with that familiar bit of desire.

It took three, four hours before the post-race festivities were over. Understandably, everyone on the team were excited. She was within distance of the lead of the entire competition, and VSK as a team was doing magnificently, her teammate Iina Konoa having finished in third place in this race. The entire time, though, in the corner of her mind, all she could see was that gaze from Istd. It was one that was unlike any other time that they had looked at each other, and she knew that he had noticed the same as well.

"You all right, Jhannis?" inquired Tomaš, noticing how spacy she was being.

"Just a bit tired after all that adrenaline," she admitted apologetically, "What were you saying?"

"If you need some time to rest, we can get back to this tomorrow," her engineer offered, a look of understanding on his face, "You've had a big day."

"I'd like that," she responded, "Thanks for all your help today."

"Good job," he said, then left her to her own devices.

She didn't have to wait long before her phone buzzed with a text. Checking it, it said, 'We should meet.' It was from Istd, and it was as if he'd known exactly when she would be free.

She texted back the address of a local bar, and started to head there, avoiding any groups of people. Discretion was the name of the game here, after all.

A quarter of an hour later, she found herself at the bar, nursing a drink and enjoying herself. She noticed him coming in, dressed in a blazer and slacks. He strode up to her confidently, and waving over at the barkeep to give him one of the same, joined her.

"Nice race," he offered sincerely.

"Thanks. You too," she answered back.

"You know," she continued, "I'm not used to doing this kind of thing..."

"'This king of thing?'?" he chuckled, "What is 'This kind of thing?'?"

He glared back at him, not appreciating the chiding.

"I... I don't know," she answered finally, "Whatever this - us meeting together when we're supposed to be rivals engaged in a ritual combat to the death that will see one of us become ostracized from our family forever - is."

"I'll admit," he responded, "I didn't think we'd hit it off like this when we got started. My family always painted yours as a bunch of villains that had it too good - that didn't deserve what they had. It turns out you're just like me - another young Drow being used by their family."

"I got much of the same about yours," she agreed, "And it turns out that you're this determined Drow who just wants to be recognized by his family."

"So, what are we going to do?" he asked, a bit of tease in his voice.

She leaned in close - close enough that they were almost touching - and said quietly, "I think you and I want the same thing, here."

"He brushed a stray lock of her hair, and without saying a word, he nodded.

"Your place, or mine?" she looked up at him coyly, a wry smile on her lips, a mischievous glint in her eye.

He looked back at her, noting the hint of desire and seduction that was around her rigid countenance, and swallowed quickly before responding, "I know a place where we won't be disturbed."

"Lead the way," she stated matter-of-factly, before pecking him on the cheek.

Wordlessly, he took her hand, and the two of them went out into the night - choosing passion and love over a forced rivalry that had been dictated by duty and family, consequences be damned.

The world could wait for now.

The night between qualifying and feature race
Aurunair WGP2 Race of the Hills

'WGP2 Chairman Day-Evans sends warning about "sportsmanship" in series....' Stephen D. Jaffray was with his client and family friend, a certain Antonin Yeats Durand, when he was reading the latest news article about the WGP2 Chairman's warning over sportsmanship. Antonin, of course, knew that Stephen was late to all the news, but with his manager being a Yokanpahaian with relatively late sense of time, this was bound to happen. 'What are your thoughts on this?' Stephen asked, while rubbing his moustache.

'There's nothing to be discussed, because we have chosen not to respond to it, Stephen,' Antonin answered, as he lit a cigar inside their hotel room in Auruna. The Yoknaphaian had a good start of what they had expected to be an interesting week in Auruna, with the qualifying performance he had. While initially starting off slow on what him and his crew at Pressley-Kim knew to be a hilly terrain, Antonin's performance would gradually pick up with more acceleration he would receive, and by the fourth quarter was among top four well ahead of everybody else. 'What I do think,' Antonin looked back sternly at Stephen with his grey eyes. 'Is that you need to stop reading too much into whatever's outside. Let's build something more substantial, because I really doubt our own crew would appreciate if you'd start speculating too much.'

'So you also think that the Kim-Pressley doesn't seem to be entirely sold on you as a racer?' Stephen asked back at Antonin, him now interested to hear what's Antonin's take on the hinge. 'I mean, let's be honest - those between you and the brat helming it all, the one who has given you your bloody seat, all suspect ulterior motive. In fact, they think that you are a pay driver! Which is a fucking bullshit since we ain't got no money - not enough for your parents to even fly into the races - and considering he's every bit a snake oil salesman. You know that too - else Vince and Audra have failed you.'

The emphasis of the final line by Stephen did ring particularly clear on Antonin, but he knew he had to manoeuvre it carefully for the time being. 'Of course I am aware, Stephen,' Antonin answered. 'Those people, they would always suspect you and I to have been propped into the operations for their own gains, when they could have had more reliable, homegrown bets like Abigail Wright or Sophie McCreary. Something that which you and I both know are not true, and we have already proven this plenty with what we have achieved so far.'

And then he took a long breath, before speaking again. 'I don't trust those Tumbrans, and neither do you. So we are on the same chapter really,' Antonin said. 'But you got to be more careful with what you are reading, and trust only those you know. They don't know jack about us, that ain't going to happen but we know them (somewhat) now.'

'I totally agree with you on this, dear child,' Stephen smiled back at Antonin, as the light fume of smoke covered their hotel room in Auruna. It was a cool, clear night - even better to keep the window open and enjoy the fumes. 'Is that why you, Thomas Kim and Pierre-Louis Archer are all going to come to tomorrow's race fully dressed up?' Stephen asked back at Antonin.

'Perhaps so. A healthy generation of attention and hype, no doubt, would work to drive the attention away from the actual discontent or mistrust, especially somewhere like the WGPO where half the people are psychos and other half angsty teenagers,' Antonin nodded along, nevermind the fact that he was still eighteen and was healthily between the two. 'Now, it would be funny enough to see Thomas Kim as a gangster motherfucker, Pierre-Louis Archer as Banana Boat bloke, and myself as a Rambo with toy machine gun, wouldn't it?'

'Archer seems to be funny lad, but he'll need to touch some grass,' Stephen chuckled, before poking fun again over a certain ISabelle Lafleur. 'Speaking of which, when do you plan to send the roses to her?'

All Antonin could do was to smile. Stephen was too predictable like that. 'It's already sent, Stephen,' Antonin answered in a glee. 'You know, I always try to stay one step ahead of you. That's what dad would say.'

'Well sure you sound like his kid, for one.'

Part 10 – Sharp and Pointy.

3rd Sgt. Tracie Valentina Kat Pauline Sarah Harper Aceline R. Alexi “Merisotilas” Susanna Casey Caylee Rowan Jemina E. Kyllikki Terhikki Annie Elliah Sam. Ilmatar Hyvärinen Lindholm Heinon was delighted to hear that Sammi Carter was going to take up on her offer for the hang out. It was not going to be something awkward or too formal for the liking of either one of them. In fact, Tracie did not like overly formal settings and places, and so a casual dinner where she could talk to Sammi on just about anything will be something that she could use as well. Thinking through the options, Tracie thought of offering a few options for Sammi to choose from, namely of the places around Valentine Z. On the other hand, she was also more than content with the idea of Sammi making the suggestions. Whichever and whatever happens, Tracie was certain about one thing: She was going to get to know her teammate more, more than just that photo shoot that they did in matching outfits and in their firesuits, more than simply communicating during the race and doing just business. Tracie wanted more than just that, so to speak.

Given the nature of the Valentians, and Tracie being no exception (and perhaps even being slightly bigger than average), she would order either just one serving from a Valentian restaurant, or if Sammi chose her own from her country, then perhaps around four of their servings would be enough to sate big Tracie, especially given the races that she have went through. She ate one big bite after another, her food and order consisting more of mashed potatoes than any other content and ingredients, all served with a bowl of white rice that she was accustomed to eating ever since Valentijn and Clarissa invited her to try some those decades ago. "Still, nothing beats the mashed potatoes," Tracie started off, trying to break the ice with a lighthearted remark here and there. She wanted to talk about the race itself, but considering what Sammi went through so far with no points to her, she decided to hold it off until the future races, whatever her outcome may be. For the time being, as discussed, she simply wanted to know more about her teammate. Questions from Tracie were personal, but not intrusive to the point of discomfort. In particular, she asked Sammi things like her experience driving for the team so far, her long-term motivations and goals, and if she has considered WGPC before for the subsequent seasons. On the last question, Tracie would state that she would rather be in WGP2, as she wanted to do this in a more casual setting. For someone as competitive and aggressive as her, Tracie would have made a great addition to WGPC, but if WGP2 is serving her well so far, then she could not see why she would want to change that fast for her future second season. Lastly, with all of these questions and getting to know each other, Tracie had one more in mind, though making sure that she was not trying to sell her into the team in any way, and that she was still glad that they are driving together for Orange Cow. "If given a chance, and if next season they are making a comeback, would you consider MeowMeow Racing? I mean, what do you think of it, in particular? Of course, your own honest opinion here, Sammi! I won't be offended- Jenny won't be offended! You don't have to answer if you don't want to, of course." Tracie gave a soft smile to her.

It would be Akresna Circuit that the drivers from both MeowMeow and Orange Cow got their points. On MeowMeow's side, Istd Arkenund came back with 7 points, Olavi Vile Ruusuvuori with 2 points for the team. On the Orange Cow side, Tracie with her 9 points, and Sammi with 6 points. It is a good start for Sammi, and even though Tracie did not want to overstay her compliment and to make sure that Sammi is a bit more comfortable. "Nice driving today," Tracie started off, offering to give her teammate (and now friend, which she is confident of) a handshake and a hug and perhaps to make her day a little better. MeowMeow, in general, was doing all right, but that is the point that the staff and Jenny herself are a bit worried about. "No pressure, and again, this is just the first season for us all. Still, we could really use a win and more points. We are now just saddling in the middles. As for Elaine and Constantine, you guys are doing an amazing job, and I didn't mean this sarcastically, of course. Istd pulled through today, but yes, keep it up like this, along with more points and better finishes. The little victories do add up."

Elsewhere, Valentijn “De Sierlijke en Vrij Valkyrie General ov Valentine Z” Samantha Maxwell Delta Weston Stijn Angelus Tracey Mitchell Tristian Marnix Basilisk Lewis Hyatt X. Constantine Sein Lin Zaw Naing was overseeing a contract that Exuberant Superintendent T-2000/2904-3 Surveillant Clarissa Alanis Star Breya « La Amoureux Chéri » Millie Taissa Butterfly Mélody Coraline Jolijn Trini Clementine Hollie Samantha Zeta Harumi was signing for. "The rationale is, well, it makes more sense for us to have a territory there, especially with the upcoming season of NSSCRA. On top of that, we didn't take note until now that a lot of our friends and countries are here too, more than the previous region that we have a territory in. Don't get me wrong, that region is nice too and we may be keeping the territory using another name, but for Alanis Star? Clarissa suggested this, and I also do agree, so here we are, for a new beginning!" The territory that the Valentians claiming would not be that big either, because after all, they are not here and anywhere for world dominations; instead, it's simply to open up and perhaps even to trade.

Vincent the Villain, Part 12 [1250 words]

Postby Recuecn » Fri Nov 03, 2023 12:30 am

Vincent woke and opened his eyes. On the hotel nightstand the alarm clock—which he hadn't bothered to set—read 9:28. That was definitely later than he was meant to sleep in on a Sunday race morning. He’d missed the team’s morning debrief by now for sure, not that he was bothered about it. But it was probably time to head to the track anyway. He sat up sharply, throwing the blankets aside.

A muffled groan came from the other side of the bed. Oh, right. Vincent looked down to see Tati, still asleep. She shivered as the air hit her bare skin. Vincent had almost forgotten she was there. He was used to waking up next to women he'd just met, but not ones whom he planned to stay in touch with moving forward–and he and Tati would be racing against each other for at least seven more weeks. She was still asleep, clearly exhausted after everything they’d done last night. Vincent grinned as he remembered. It wasn’t every night you scored an Instagram model and influencer. If they were going to keep having that much fun, maybe this was one bridge worth not burning immediately.

He popped into the shower quickly to rinse off all the sweat and other grossness from last night. He walked back into the room, still drying himself off with his towel, to grab his clothes before heading to the circuit. The noise of the shower had woken Tati now, and she was sitting up in bed, the blanket pulled up to her armpits, staring at him, disheveled and bleary-eyed.

“Good morning,” said Vincent. “I’m heading to the circuit. Do you want a ride?”

“What time is it?”

“Nine thirty.”

“Shit. Yeah I need a ride.”

Tati’s clothes were scattered across the floor. Vincent picked them up and tossed them to her. “Alright, let’s go then.”

Vincent dropped Tati off at the JMoD Racing paddock and headed over to UrGa. He was greeted with dark looks; he was two hours late. The team kept their distance, but Fuad walked up to him.

“You missed the morning debrief. I can catch you up, but we also have a lot to go over before the race. The prince wants to talk to you first though.”

Vincent gave a nod and sauntered over to the prince’s office. He knocked on the door but pushed it open without waiting. Prince Bismillah bin Kudarat, the team principal, was poring over some data on a tablet, but he put it down as Vincent walked in.

“You wanted to talk to me?” Vincent grabbed a seat without asking and leaned back, folding his hands behind his head. It struck him that he resembled a defiant troublemaker called into the principal’s office.

“Vincent, we've had a couple bumps in the road, I'm sure you're aware, but I hadn't said anything yet because I'd hoped it was just growing pains and that after a couple weeks things would smooth out. But when you skipped our team debrief this morning, I took it as a sign that we're still not on the same page."

"Ok, so what do you need from me?"

"I need you to start being a team player. You are driving in WGP2 for a team, for UrGa, not just for yourself. And when you disobey team strategy, or skip team meetings, or box out your own teammate on the racetrack, you hurt the whole team. And by doing that you hurt your own chances. So follow the rules, and help me help you."

"So no more skipping meetings. Well, there were some extenuating circumstances. Bu I get it, I get it, don't worry. Follow the rules, be a team player." Vincent bounced out of his chair and pranced jauntily to the door. He leaned against the doorframe. "Anything else?"

The prince glowered at him. "A little respect would be nice."

Vincent pressed his palms together and made an exaggerated bow. "Yes, your highness. Now I beseech thee, prithee grant me my leave for I have some catching up to do before the race."

Vincent ducked out of the room, hoping he hadn't thrown too much oil on the fire. He knew he’d have to deal with the prince a lot, so he shouldn't make it too difficult, but it was hard to take him seriously sometimes, and all the team requirements were just so annoying. Vincent had bought his seat and he had Yakov's backing, so he felt secure enough in his spot to push the envelope.

Vincent did want to put maximum effort into this race. He'd finally had a half-decent qualifying position, ending up in the middle of the pack instead of all the way at the back, so hopefully with a little luck he could convert that into some real points.

Vincent began the race with an aggressive start, passing Brolli and Rasianoara early, which put him right behind his teammate, Sal.

"Tell him to let me past," Vincent fumed to Fuad over the radio. "My pace is better; tell him to let me through."

There was a long pause. Vincent wasn't sure what conversation they could be having at the pit-wall. "Fuad, hello?" he nagged. "Tell Sal he's gotta let me pass him!"

Finally, an answer. "Negative, Vincent. We need you to hold your position. Stay behind Sal."

"Putain de merde! This is bullshit!" Vincent didn't activate his radio, but he cursed to himself inside his helmet. There was no doubt in his mind that this was Bin Kudarat specifically punishing him for missing the meeting this morning. Vincent couldn't see any reason why they would want him to stay behind Sal when he was on better pace.

Screw this, he thought to himself, and sent it. He dove recklessly down the inside going into turn 4, coming out of the apex wide into Sal's line. His rear wing slashed into Sal's tire. Rubber went flying into the air and Sal went spinning into the gravel. Vincent gritted his teeth. I won't be hearing the end of that one, I'm sure.

The actual finish was disappointing. Vincent defended aggressively, but he wasn't able to prevent Arkenund from passing him. Even with three DNFs at the end of the race, Vincent had only gained two places, all told. It meant four more points, but it still wasn't even enough to catch up to Sal in the standings.

Vincent grunted in frustration as he pulled the car into the garage. Disconnecting the steering wheel, he dipped out of the UrGa paddock right away without waiting for post-race debrief. Tradition now, I guess. He jogged over to Tati's slot.

She rolled her eyes, unsurprised, as he approached. "I already told you you're not allowed in the JMoD garage," she said.

"I need something to take my mind off this godforsaken competition," Vincent said. "You'll do just fine. Come on, I'll rent your favorite sports car and let’s drive down to Karalinne." Tati looked skeptical. "There's this gorgeous castle we can visit. It'll look great on your Instagram, and you don't have to post me if you don't want to. We can do all the cutesy touristy stuff. And then after... I'm sure we can keep ourselves entertained." He winked. Tati rolled her eyes again, but Vincent knew he'd won. He wasn't sure what was going on with Tati, but whatever it was, he could tell she was desperate for companionship, and that was something he knew how to take advantage of.

“No, no, no, no, no, Vincent, what are you doing?!”

Those were the words that came out of Yakov Yurievsky's mouth as he witnessed firsthand the “incident” between UrGa's own two drivers, Shalmaneser Kalhu and Vincent Von Visp. It was perhaps the worst thing that could have happened to them in Yakov's personal opinion, although for once, it might be an opinion that he shared with the majority of UrGa's personnel this time around. However, the reasons why Yakov would think that this was a disaster would most probably not line up exactly with what the rest of the team thought.

Yakov Yurievsky had brought Vincent Von Visp into the UrGa fold for one purpose and one purpose only: to spearhead Yakov's charge against Preston Autos and dissuade them from ever claiming UrGa's victory in WGPC as their own victory as well. So far, that campaign was not going exactly as Yakov hoped it would, although he was definitely claiming victory in seeing Kenny Wilson get kicked out from an actual decent team in Tropicorp VilBev and dumped into a shithole like HMG Grand Prix. The work wasn't done yet though, Yakov knew. Wilson was still in WGP2, and as the recent leaks from the Hapiloppian engine supplier showed, they were also beginning to fire shots of their own at the Pridnestrovian champions of WGPC, and in the sprint race in Dod Rava, Vincent had reminded Wilson that the latter had a massive target on his back. However, in recent days it had come to Yakov's attention that Vincent had been doing things that were not directly helpful to the cause for which Yakov had recruited the Recuecian driver, and it was such behavior that Yakov believed was the reason for the lap 2 collision between the UrGa teammates. And to think that it all started because of a stupid pacifier.

If it hadn't been for Vincent's secretary bribing some of Sal Kalhu's crew to let her slip the pacifier and note into the Adabian's car then Yakov probably wouldn't even have realized that something like this was going on under his nose. Apparently, Vincent wanted to send a message to the younger drivers on the grid that they were now in the real world and that he was coming for them, and Sal Kalhu was unfortunate enough to be part of that group. Yakov should have known better than to hope that being teammates would dissuade Vincent from going through with his
“threat” on Sal, but the psychological profile never lied, and now Yakov was looking at the consequences of leaving this conversation for later.

“Tell Vincent to meet me at my office as soon as he is finished with his press duties,” Yakov told Vincent's engineer, Fuad Qassemullah once the race in Akresna was over. “I don't care for any reasons he might give to not talk to me; we are having that conversation today!”

Yakov angrily slammed shut the door to his office behind him before walking over to the minibar built inside his desk and taking out a glass and a half-empty bottle of vodka. The “financial advisor” poured himself a drink and then sat down so as to calm himself before his coming meeting with Vincent. A collision between UrGa's two drivers was not something that Yakov had planned for, especially not when it appeared to be a premeditated act on the part of one driver. Yakov knew that he should have acted as a peacemaker between Sal and Vincent, but instead he chose to sit back and let it unfold, and now he was reaping the reward for his inaction.

"Vincent, I want you to listen to me very carefully since this is the only time that I will tell you this. Whatever problem it is that you have with Sal Kalhu, I want you to forget about it. Drop it, let it go, however you're supposed to say it. He is still your teammate, after all. And need I remind you that the real enemy is not here but out there? Preston is the enemy. We had them reeling with the two incidents involving Wilson but now they're looking to capitalize on your fight with Sal, and I can't have that. They'll try to get in your head and bring you down to their level. It is up to you to ignore the noise and continue wearing down Wilson's will to stay in WGP2 by pushing him and his engine past their limits. Not just that, but also to convince the other teams that they don't want to be associated with such an unprofessional outfit like Preston. I know that you probably find it amusing to see all of these other drivers failing right in front of you, but you’ve got to put in the effort to be successful as well! Without success, you’re just a prick picking on others not your own size. But if you’re successful, you’re showing everyone that you’re better than them all. And isn’t that something that you want as well?”

Yakov hoped that that would be enough to get Vincent back on the right path. Prince Bismillah had already talked to the Recuecian back in Dod Rava, but Yakov doubted that Vincent would listen to the man even if he was royalty and all that. At the very least, maybe someone who understood the villainy in Vincent’s black heart could get through to him, but even now, Yakov was preparing for the possibility of more incidents between Vincent and Sal happening. And if that did happen, not even Yakov could help take the pressure off of Vincent’s back. Not when Yakov himself had the pressure of leading an engine war on his own shoulders.

WGP2-6 Tropicorp Beach GP Course Preview

Tropicorp Grand Prix Deux, Tropicoast Beach GP Course, Tropicoast, Tropicorp

Tropicoast Beach GP Course :: Information

About the Track:
Image

Track Location: Tropicoast, Tropicorp, Atlantian Oceania

This will be the first World Grand Prix Organization sanctioned event in Tropicoast, with all previous iterations of the Grand Prix Course being used in lower-level racing series. The most recent use of the Grand Prix variant of the Tropicoast Beach Course came during the OWARS NSGP V. Based on feedback from this event, the track layout was adjusted slightly with an angled corner in the middle of the highway stretch to slow the cars down heading into the big curve.

Eastfield Lodge's Khalid Musa was the pole sitter for the NSGP of Tropicorp while the feature race was won by Tropicorp's Indori Volcanasaur. Volcanasaur is one of two drivers in the World Grand Prix 2 field with prior experience at the course as Kimi-Suomi's Olavi Vile Ruusuvuori also competed in the OWARS NSGP V finishing 8th in the NSGP of Tropicorp. After scoring their first points of the season, the Tropicorp VilBev GP2 team come into the race with momentum but will be hoping to get more than just finishing in the points out of their home event. In particular, rookie driver Indori Volcanasaur is one of just two drivers - the other being former teammate Kenny Wilson, who have failed to score any points yet on the season. With their familiarity of the course and the support from their home crowd, Volcanasaur and the #44 team are confident in their ability to press not only for points but for a podium finish in either the sprint or feature races on the beach.

Despite the unseasonal weather elsewhere in the region, Tropicorp have put large efforts into geo-engineering the locality to ensure a consistent and pleasurable experience for teams and fans alike in Tropicoast. The Tropicorp Pit Crew Challenge will be going on in the Fanzone all weekend long as well as a special Pit Stop Challenge for the teams on Friday. Fans will also get to compare the difference between changing a tyre on a World Grand Prix racing vehicle and doing so on an NSSCRA Stock Car, among other activities sponsored by Tropicorp Racing Supply.

The race begins on the Tropicorp Motorway; an access road that runs along the coast connecting different primary areas of the Tropicorp campus, Tropicoast itself and nearby facilities. While it is typically considered a two lane road and racing will be tight on the paved main straightway when compared with the compacted sand on the back straightaway, drivers should be able to fit three-across without having to dip their wheels into the sand. Not too far down the road past the start finish line is the original Tropicorp headquarters building which now serves as the Tropicorp visitor center. The iconic Tropicorp sign surrounded by Palm Trees can still be seen and will provide an excellent photo backdrop particularly for the Team Tropicorp entry. Unlike the Oval course where cars continue down the straightaway past the visitor center, the Grand Prix cars will make a hard right hand turn into the Visitor Center parking lot, around the back side of the complex and then back out again to meet up with the Motorway. If a driver were to accidentally miss the right hand turn and continue on the motorway past the visitor center, they will be required to make a full stop + 3 seconds before returning to the approved racing surface or incur a penalty from the stewards.

Image Image

After exiting the Tropicorp Visitor Center loop and continuing onto the motorway, the road will begin to bend into an elbow as drivers will begin setting themselves up for the big curve and the transition off the paved surface. There is still plenty of room to pass after the elbow, however as drivers scream down one of the longest paved straightaways in motorsports. As drivers approach the Dart billboard they will begin to see the big curve climbing into the sky in the distance and will need to begin preparing themselves for braking to set up for the difficult transition from the paved surface to the compacted sand.

Image Image

As drivers prepare to make the big left hand curve off the paved surface, any drivers who brake too late or have an issue with their cars will have two options. Drivers may opt to continue straight down the paved road through the lightweight swing signs marking the end of the racing surface if they have an issue with their car and are not planning to continue in the race. Otherwise, drivers who miss the entry to the corner should still be able to make the turn and scrub speed as they climb the banking with the brakes applied. Some drivers may choose to climb the banking purposely to carry additional speed both into and out of the large turn installed by the Tropicorp locals both as a safety measure to allow cars to scrub speed off after flying down the nearly two-mile long paved straightaway.

Image Image

After exiting the big curve, the drivers will traverse a series of technical turns on the compacted sand, with beachwood markers and temporary signage marking the turns. After navigating the technical portion of the sandstretch, drivers will open up into a wide open straight of compacted sand that will allow side by side battles for position if need be, making the exit from the technical section extremely critical for passing opportunities. The compacted sand is of slightly different color than the un altered natural beach sand and drivers will know the difference if they stray too close to the water line, though there is plenty of room for error on the racing surface before a driver would be in danger of going off into the unprepared surface. The inside of the course opens up to allow a pitlane before the tight, flat curve at the start/finish end of the course.

Image Image

Unlike the big curve at the other end of the course, drivers will not be able to carry a lot of speed into the flat curve and anyone that does may find themselves into the orange guard rail fencing and out of the event. By far the slowest part of the course, the flat curve will allow fans in the grandstands an opportunity to see all the cars and take nice pictures with the large Tropicorp billboards in the background at the center of curvature. As drivers exit the curve it will be a race to regain traction on the paved surface - taking a wider exit may allow contact patch with the pavement sooner but will increase distance traveled and may result in a slick paved surface due to kick back from the compacted sand. Taking a tighter exit to the turn may result in slower entry speed but a cleaner more natural transition back to the paved surface for the spring back to the finish line just meters ahead.

Image

Fan Access:

Fans will watch the race from the large Main Grandstand at the flat curve and a series of smaller grandstands along the front straightaway on either side of the Start/Finish line. There will be 'Campground' style access in the center of the course however there is no entry/exit from the center of the course when the race is under green flag conditions. There will be an employee-only viewing area near the Tropicorp Visitors Center while fans will also be able to utilize grandstands along the front straightaway at the transition to the Big Curve.

FanZone Information
Pit Crew Challenge :: Tropicorp Racing Supply will host their 'Pit Crew Challenge" outside the flat curve where fans will be able to test their ability to change an NSSCRA tyre or act as the fuel person so long as they first sign a release form indemnifying Tropicorp of any injury that may occur as they attempt to set the fast times in the challenge.

Cocoabo Zone & "Meet the Techie" Exhibit :: The Cocoabo Preservation Society will be on hand with a special Cocoabo Zone in the area outside the front straightaway past the Start-Finish line where trained Cocoabo will be on hand demonstrating some of their skills. Cocoabo Enrichment and Enhancement Project trainers will be on hand with their Cocoabo to discuss some of their training methods.

Cocoa-bo :: Delectable company Cocoa-bo will be on hand with a 'spin the wheel' and sample tent where fans can sample some Cocoa-bo product as well as purchase items for sale. Fans can also line up to spin the wheel for prizes including spinners, sunglasses and magnets with the Cocoa-bo logo on them.

twii.tur :: twii.tur will have 3 locations around the speedway where fans can have their picture taken and instantly delivered via twii.tur from inside the World Grand Prix Championship car driven by TJUN-ia's Lane Carter during the most recent World Grand Prix Championship season.

Toys '4' All, Visit TI, Arcticala Electrical, the Dart Group and Vilaye Energy Drink are among other entities also expected to participate in the fanzone with information kiosks or small sales tables as well as a selection of foreign entities. Foreign vendors, with the exception of competing Tyre and Racing Supply brands, are welcome to participate in the fanzone.

Wednesday Morning

The alarm broke team principal Kelly Doënowitz out of her slumber. She didn't stir, eyes remaining closed as she clutched the bolster in the bed harder. Her husband Michael shifted the position of his arm to try and defeat the phone's dulcet tones, but ended up only grabbing her waist.

"Kelly..." he murmured as he stirred. Kelly remained sleeping. Finally, Michael sat up in their matrimonial bed, rubbing his eyes, and reached over to turn off the alarm on Kelly's phone. He gently tried to shake her awake, but she just bat his hand away as she shifted her position, nestling herself into Michael's waist.

"You gotta wake up, Kelly..." Michael murmured as he ran his hand through Kelly's hair. She'd been a lot more tired lately — which was to be expected, given that she was the team principal of an actual WGP2 team — but things had only gotten much worse. She hadn't even been in the mood for — well, some things he had to learn to go without for longer.

"Kel..." Michael whispered into her ear again. "Don't wanna..." was the response from the sleeping team principal. "Ten more minutes..."

"You're leaving for Tropicorp today, honey. Gotta get up. Come on."

Kelly yawned, before her eyes sprung open. She smiled at her husband, before stretching herself. Michael gave her a quick peck on the lips.

"C'mon. I'll make breakfast. You just get ready." Michael smiled.

"Now I remember why I married you."

"Oh, there's plenty of reasons why you married me."

The couple's reverie was broken by Kelly's phone ringing with an urgent call. She sighed as Michael got out of bed.

"Yes?" she answered tersely, trying not to sound like she'd gotten out of bed just two minutes before this.

"We've got a situation," came the voice on the line.

"Not liking the tone with which you said 'situation'."

"You shouldn't."

"Okay, let me hear it."

"JJJ did a livestream last night during which, I quote verbatim, he sang to the tune of Daddy Daddy Do..."

"What the fuck is Daddy Daddy Do?"

"A song. Anyway, listen, right? To the tune of it, he, uh, sang..."

"Out with it."

"Daddy daddy do, Nini J is poo."

"Fuck me. Fuck me. Fucking — Fuck, I — Jesus Mary and Joseph, fucking — didn't we fucking tell him to keep his fucking mouth shut, the little fucking twat, he can fucking get bent, the little fucking scamp —"

"We've already told the press no comment, but it's your call —"

"Fucking Jesus fucking shite, the little FUCK, I'm gonna fucking STRANGLE him to death with my OWN BARE HANDS —"

"I'll take it we'll discuss this when you come into the office?"

A deep breath. "Yeah."

"See you then." The line was cut almost too soon. Kelly wanted nothing more than to sink back into bed and just run away. Her only saving grace was Michael coming back into the room, wearing an apron, and gently kissing her on the forehead.

"Breakfast's ready." He let her hug him as she sunk her face into his apron, which now smelt of pancake batter.

She groaned.

"Everything will be fine, honey."

If the first weekend was a lesson, the 2nd one would be one of wonder for one Olavi Ville Ruusuvuori. Dod Rava decided to bless OVR with his first-ever points, thanks to P7 one day and P9 the next, alongside his first-ever viral moment (that flipping of VVV)...which also brought out his first ever official warning by the WGPO. That was the only downside of the entire weekend but with 8 weekends still to go, there was still plenty of time to get more points on the board and make MeowMeow proud...even if he was also preparing for a long NSSCRA campaign in the meantime. Constantine Hollis Aria Hirini Tapihana was certainly happy, which made OVR happy...but would that hold?

The famed Akresna Circuit in Auruna would host Round 3, the WGP2 Race of the Hills, and practice would certainly be interesting as Vincent von Visp headed up a Top 5 that included Iina Konoa, Samantha Carter, OVR and Tatiana Bungschen...while teammate Istd Arkenund was down in 20th. It looked as though this split between the MeowMeow drivers and while it did...it ended up flipping once again. Both drivers would make it through to Q2 but after that, a difference was made with OVR only managing 19th and Arkenund first one out in 15th. In the end, it would be Carter who took pole over Haru Jukkena and Juracai Klianota with both both MeowMeows needing work to be done in the race.

Race day would arrive and while everyone else was gearing up for the race, OVR took a moment to himself in his area. Looking at himself in the mirror, he pondered everything that had happened so far in his WGP2 journey, the preparation for NSSCRA to come, the efforts he had put in to try and be the best driver he could be...and the pressure that his homeland gave him. Kimi-Suomi, now in Anaian Purple and Green, really wants OVR to be the next big thing, to be a driver that could challenge the legacy of one Aurélia Karvonen, the Vuohi herself...but here, at 17, he didn't know if he had what it took to fill that role. Everyone was counting on him - Kimi-Suomi, MeowMeow, Team Arktinen, HM soon enough - but all of that built pressure...and he knew he had to deal with that, one way or another.

The Race of the Hills would be 45 laps long and...not have too much chaos going down. Only Shalmaneser Kalhu (lap 2), Pier Brolli (lap 23) and Lianna Rasianoara (lap 41) would end up retiring from the race while the rest were either a lap down or somewhere towards the points. It turned out to be a good day for the local fans as Jukkena took home the win over the VSK-Maarukanna duo of Jhannis Illykur and Konoa. Both the MeowMeow cars would score points in the same race for the very first time as Arkenund came home in 8th and while OVR did end up a lap down, P13 still meant two points and that was enough for a few smiles amongst the MeowMeow gang. Abigail Wright, Klianota, Tracie V. Lindholm and Antonin Yeats Durand were ahead of Arkenund while Carter, Nini Johnsilvaturr, VVV and Luke Ochoa were between the Kitty Cars - with Pierre-Louis Archer climbing from P22 to claim the final point. Meanwhile the driver who finished in P22, Isabelle Lafleur, claimed the FL point.

Things are certainly starting to feel better within the Valentinian squad, with 38 combined points in a championship as tight as you can get, but now things were about to get a bit more...tropical. A redesigned Tropicoast in Tropicorp will host Round 4 and because this venue is quite famous for hosting NSSCRA, OVR's camp will be getting some special guests...HM. All of them. Daniel Marx, Ilmari Pëkannen, Kaarina Salo, Georg Lundberg and the two drivers that OVR has idolised over the past few years...Aurélia Karvonen and Lam Chow-Cheung. They will all be there...for him. And no one could really blame him for feeling starstruck.
