The Evenguard of Azura has increased its combat alert posture in response to rising regional tensions, Defense Minister Sansone Di Traglia announced Monday at an extraordinary press conference highlighting Azura’s commitment to keeping the regional peace in Esvanovia. The move comes on the heels of the announcement of a general mobilization order for La Forza Azura, the standing military defense forces of the Evenguard last week, bringing an unprecedented number of mobilized troops to bear on a region slipping into the realm of chaos. Di Traglia announced the added that the mobilization sought to influence a forbearance on the rising tide of tensions in the region, noting that he was hopeful that the call to action from the Evenguard would help bring simmering tensions down to a more acceptable level of control. It was Di Traglia’s third-such conference in as many weeks, highlighting the dangerous tension.

“We are motivated to keep the peace through a show of force,” the Defense Minister said on Tuesday, speaking on the rising threats presented in Esvanovia. “From the Nivalian Ocean to the Anagonia Sea, we are prepared to use any means necessary at our disposal to help police good conduct and safe travels for the peoples of Esvanovia, and will be working directly with our partners in the International Coalition of Nations and the Trans-Esvanovian Partnership to help assuage the growing threat of armed conflict in the region. It is the position of the Evenguard of Azura that we must take ample measures now to ensure the peace of the region, before an unforeseen spark of conflagration ignites, sending us down the path to region-wide conflict. It behooves all of us, from the councilors in Raevenna to the many powerful capitals of Esvanovia to work together at this hour to prevent these conflagrations from spawning a regional war.”

Di Traglia spoke for approximately 90 minutes on Monday, issuing travel alerts for the citizens of the Evenguard moving abroad, though he announced that the transportation ministry had not yet decided to issue calls for Azuran citizens traveling abroad to return to Azura yet. He spent a great degree of detail on Azura’s military commitments at home and abroad, specifying that there would be a reshuffling of Azura’s forces on the Esvanovian front to help the Evenguard better prepare for the coming conflicts that seem to be unraveling the regional peace. Specifically mentioned was the transfer of two strike fleets from the Nivalian Ocean theater to the Anagonian Sea theater, as well as the transfer of an additional strike fleet to the Inner Sea to help reinforce the peace as tensions between Aureumterra and Sombreland continue to degrade. The move would be the largest peacetime transfer of troops in Evenguard history.

“We will do everything in our means to reinforce our existing regional positions with fresh troops from the homeland front,” Di Traglia referenced in connection with the troop transfer, seeking to reassure the public that the increased defensive posture was merely a ‘precautionary’ maneuver. “Azura remains committed to finding workable solutions to the crises that are engulfing Esvanovia right now. We applaud our dear friends, the Kylarnatians for everything they are doing to assuage the fears of a growing crisis between Aureumterra and the Kingdom of Sombreland. The Evenguard of Azura announces its full-throated support of these peace initiatives, but will continue to be vigilant of any rising tensions or threats of conflict with the reshuffling of our military forces. If conflict does break out somewhere in Esvanovia, the Azurans will be on the forefront of keeping the peace and bringing any overt hostilities to a speedy end.”

Among the ships being transferred from the Nivalian Ocean front to the Anagonia Sea is the Vigilanza carrier group, representing 1/10th of the total Nivalian Ocean front’s defensive capabilities. Such a large detachment signals the growing concern that regional events are spiraling out of control. Rumors abound over the necessity of such a show of strength, with some believing that rising tensions in Ashilosa could force a conflict between the ancient enemies, the Confederate States of Anagonia and the Kaskaidan Union. With talk of war already escalating between Aureumterra and Sombreland, this newest flashpoint in a growing crisis in Esvanovia represents the latest slippage of peace in our time. The Evenguard of Azura’s general mobilization has been tested with the departure of the Kingdom of Sombreland from the International Coalition of Nations recently, though Di Traglia kept an optimistic tone.

“We still believe that our regional problems are salvageable, that we can all recover from the rising tension and return to a pre-war footing where possible. The Evenguard of Azura will gladly co-sponsor any and all peace initiatives from members of the regional governments that bring about a speedily conclusion to these unfortunate disputes. The Esvanovian regional community must act through the Concert of Esvanovia to mediate and conclude these unhappy disputes before they bring open warfare to the region and risk the lives of millions of individuals. The barbarity of warfare is something we can ill afford in Esvanovia right now, and it is the stated mission of the Evenguard of Azura to take any and all practicable means of avoiding said conflicts when and where possible. It is our utmost hope that our stabilizing hand will help prevent the shedding of blood on Esvanovia soil, keeping the region safe for our citizenry.”

Pargan, Minister of Finance in the Council of Ministers, along with Ukar Sarisso, President of the Grand National Bank of Vystercia-Nasucrea, have both been summoned to appear for testimony by the Committee on Banking and Financial Services of the National Assembly, due to recent apparent money-laundering and holding of Meridonian funds acquired by alleged embezzlement and malfeasance in the Federal Republic of Meridon. Vantha, Chairwoman of the Banking and Financial Services Committee (the first woman to hold this post since the War of Unification), has stated that, "We know that these actions are legal in Vystercia-Nasucrea. That's the problem. We need to find out why the laws are so loose and slipshod that one could drive a semi truck through the loopholes."

Mr. Sarisso has refused to comment on these matters, but Mr. Pargan, a eunuch, simply stated, "I find it reprehensible that I, a eunuch, am being called to the carpet by someone who only eighteen years ago would have wielded the knife that made me one. I am simply a public servant operating within the laws of the realm. I have broken no laws whatsoever and have done nothing unethical, I swear to God."

While the government has pledged to "fully co-operate" with any probe or investigation, it has not rebuked Mr. Pargan as of yet for such obvious "whataboutism" and apparent ethical lapses. Many members of the opposition National Democratic Party and Radical Party have both called for Mr. Pargan's resignation, especially since this most recent demonstration of a "hostile and uncooperative attitude" suggests he will not be as forthcoming or helpful in the necessary inquiry and hearing process of the Committee.

Update:

Mr. Pargan has formally tendered his resignation as Minister of Finance, having been asked to do so by Their Majesties, Kings Ar-Yos I and Sergan I. Mr. Sarisso has also been asked to resign by the Board of Directors of the Grand National Bank of Vystercia-Nasucrea and has signaled that he is willing to do so. Both men will likely receive substantial retirement and/or severance packages upon their termination.

The events of the 15 Rush, now a month in the past, are Meridon's worst occurence of financial exploitation, wire fraud and embezzlement in its history. But was it really about the profit?

Port Sistine Metropolitan Police Service officers move to quell disturbances in the aftermath of the 15 Rush, which very nearly precipitated an instantaneous market crash and has rocked confidence in Meridon's financial infrastructure and security.

It was just under a month ago that the 15 Rush gripped the nation like a feral dog leaping from the underbrush. In the span of a few hours, the market shares and stocks of three companies were ruthlessly exploited for over a billion dollars, forced into forclosure or collapse, their assets divied out like cargo thrown from sinking ships. The MDF has even had to step in and bail out two of the companies- Matterhouse was involved in the production of defense-critical compounds and alloys, and Willingstone was a private military contractor whom the Defense Forces had used before in operations in Maltika and Cerdania.

There were plenty of assumptions flying around in the hours and days following the incident, from Silkroad Forum and GATORNet hot takes to Senators discussing theories in the Federal Council chambers. Compromising the national defense? Can't be. Why would they waste their time with a real estate company specifically if that were the case, let alone use those hacking skills on a stock exchange of all things? Then, the robbery angle comes up. Given, these companies were no Eureka, Silkroad or Laurein, who wouldn't have been so decisively ruined in a day of bad trading, but what thief goes into a jewelry store to only snag three pieces and run out? This isn't even to mention all of the circumspect evidence- mind, that happened in the span of a day.

Let's talk Matterhouse, first. They're one of the companies that've got people sitting outside of the main plaza in downtown Brightswood by the horde of college Greenos and collection of anarchists and left-wing outcasts protesting, since they have nothing better to do at 12:00 on a Tuesday than sit under the portico with a fifteen dollar coffee drink screaming at salarymen. Yes, they've had their fair share of controversies before. Everyone remembers when Dr. Kent Redley died 'mysteriously' during a helicopter flight after he testified before the Federal Council about the nature of human experimentation on their abandoned gene splicing contract, and particularly fresh in the mind was the rather embarrassing gaffe when their lead researcher on a liquid armor project was hospitalized after Byron Matterhouse shot the researcher to prove the efficacy of the vest in front of shareholders (Yes, we know he lived, that's not the point there, Byron!) They've been in thick with the Defense Department for close to ninety years, and any company with that amount of time has its fair share of skeletons in the closet. Some say Dr. Redley's death is a prime example of that. He was reported missing and then assumed dead in 2004, until a policeman in rural Smith Island found the odd human bone being gnawed on by a feral mutt some eight years after. Most circles agree it was a killing, and indeed, the pilot flying is in jail for his negligence in that affair (wondering why there was no paperwork filed for that flight?), but there was no way the pilot was the one who unbuckled and shoved the poor man out of the doorway. Boiling it down simply, it takes a lot of energy to lead a company, especially one that size. The fact that Byron Matterhouse blew his skullcap off before the cops were even there to kick down his fancy frosted glass office door offers a light into what other practices might be going on in that company. Sure, they've done plenty of good things, ostensibly, but the stronger the light the sharper the shadow. With the Defense Department taking hold over their more 'critical' holdings, you can bet the light will never be lit in that basement.

Willingstone was a newer star on the rise, and was the prior administrations' go-to tool for applying military force in foreign nations when the Senate wouldn't give the go-ahead to sic the MDF on them. They were famous for selective policing in the aftermath of the Maltikan conflict, where their goons levied fees for the security and peacekeeping work in Yomium and other cities in the country while John Ironwood's boys were digging up tree stumps to throw frag grenades in, living off government subsidies and wrangled family heirlooms while our boys in khaki worked off four hours of sleep and stale biscuit bread. This combat experience, however, was the real payoff for them, and the second they pulled up stakes from Maltika and rotated home, you couldn't go a half inch on their company without their newly obnoxious slogan- "Combat Tested, Merrie Approved", as if any Merrie approved of them that wasn't some dog cunt sitting in a Cordelia penthouse smoking cigars and choking on brandy. Given, Elliot Willingstone was a smart man and figured out fairly quickly that he didn't need to keep producing 'combat tested' rent-a-soldiers, just hold on to the ones he had and have them train new ones to do milkrun jobs. He built his empire up through the 2010s, and you could see his boys with the WS logo everywhere that ostensibly needed a gun for hire, from fancy expositions to Tapperoa birthday parties, filling the demand of Karens everywhere for sidearms strapped to the hips of guys whose critical thinking could be put to shame by a Dollar Mart calculator from 1992, or alternatively, duds too old, fat, or stupid to be policemen. Didn't matter as long as you were 'combat tested'. Safe to say, it was to the surprise of no one that they found that cunny-huffing cunt in his fancy-pants mansion with crack cocaine and an abducted ten year old from four provinces over- seems to be the fate of plenty of the 'eccentric' new money figures in controversial markets.

Then, there's Parksun Realty. Let's be honest, none of you heard of these people before. Who would blame you? Real estate companies are lucky to last ten years these days. Now, see, unlike Matterhouse and Willingstone, there's not a lot of laundry you gotta air in laundry unless you're in the business of screwing people over. Yes, yes, I know, you'll be telling me, 'all realtors fuck people over'. No, I'm talking about the kind that are apt to give you a house that'll collapse in a week from a termite infection, and smugly point to the 9-point clause in the contract that reads "Get fucked, mate." You tend not to last long in this business if you do shit like that, because word spreads fast and you can bet your bottom dollar some other jackass with a solar panel smile and a tacky tie collection is ready to sell these people houses. See, Parksun wasn't the global evil boogeyman like the other two. They didn't have global reach, they only sold properties in north and central Meridonian territories like Smith Island and Helena, and from most of their reviews they're pretty decent people. You know who don't leave reviews, though? Tangaran tribals. See, think what you will about these tribes, but there are plenty of groups in the wildlands living and minding their own business. Some are pretty well integrated with the other communities, some of them keep to themselves, and that's all right. Some of them are a bit too trustworthy of people who look the same as them, because that's what they did. They'd send Tangarans (or sometimes even really tan European guys) to work with these communities, and overwhelmingly took advantage of tribal elders by acquiring lands under non-existent threats like protecting them from logging companies (that can't even log there, by the by, because of tribal protection laws), and right after that they'd act like little governors over these people. More often than not, these communities were ruled like little fiefdoms, with king realtor at the top saying who could and couldn't sell their house. Acting like landlords, they would charge these people rent for lands they'd had by law for centuries, traditions they'd held for granted or were manipulated out of because they were more interested in 'believing our own (people)' rather than actually picking up a lawbook and realizing they were getting played. What'd end up happening, is, over a few years, these people would either die, or be forced to sell their properties to the realtor for dirt cheap. The agent could then pump up the price of pristine back-forest land and resell it to developers, circumventing the tribal land protection laws since it technically belonged to him now. There were some news reports on this, but in most cases when prosecutors came after them they switched up tactics, targets, or locations. The prosecutors who get this case will be making bank for the next three generations with all of the tribal groups joining in a sledgehammer of a class-action suit, and the TUP is getting ready to throw the politics in Helena and Smith Islands into an uproar after this debacle.

And I'm sorry, but the police conducting a no-knock raid on Willingstone and a 'chance' electrical fire exposing damning documents for Ms. Arjut all in the same day as their companies getting reamed on the stock markets for all they were worth were far too convenient to be coincidental. Sure, there's plenty of other fallout from this, but who would've gone through all this extra effort if all they wanted was the money? Setting it up so the police could find this kid and so that investigators found that file cabinet in a burnt-out house is a lot of extra legwork to do, let alone to do it on the same day when you're already kicking up a hornet's nest. Whoever coordinated this was taking out some trash. Maybe they had some personal vendetta against these companies. Maybe when DSA actually does its fucking job for once, we'll know for sure.

Sombreland Government Reaches Out to Meridon

GALADOR, Sombrland Both Eulabia and the Kingdom of Sombreland have left the ICON alliance, The Empire of Aurumterra threatens Sombreland, and appears to be lukewarm about seeking peace. This has put a great deal of pressure on the Kingdom of Sombreland'''s moderately conservative government.

With the departure of Eulabia from a position of influence in Esvanovia, the Kingdom of Sombreland has severed its last ties with Eulabia. In its wake, the Kingdom's government has made overtures towards the nation of Meridon, with which it still has good relations, the uranium development contract that had been offered to Eulabia. This is seen by some members of the Cult of Thon as a blatant attempt to gain military support in dealing with Aurumterra. The Thonists, led by the Prince-Consort, Chasin de Cressa , insists that negotiating with the Empire of Aurumterra over contested territory would be reasonable, especially if disestablishment dissidents were exiled to said territory. The Prince was heard to say, "The current advisors to Her Majestic Highness seem to want to lead her down a path of war in order to justify radical, unthinkable changes to our government through the threat of war. I say that there is a better way to guarantee peace. Although Emperor Frederick holds very different views, he has been a ruler dedicated to peace and reason. I will not see my country ruled over by alarmism and radical embrace of neo-liberalism."

In the meantime, the Minister of the Left and Minister of Death, Prince Shaladew Kadav, is leading a delegation to Kylarnatia for peace talks. Peace has been achieved before, a spokesman for the Minister said, and this government, he believes, can do it again. In the meantime, the Director of Military Affairs, Grand Admiral Teroth, has made preparations for defending the border, and has called up all military reserves as well as Artisan Caste persons scheduled to provide support services.

In a press release delivered on 19 July 2023, President William Acton announced a military aid package to Sombreland's armed forces in the form of close to $5 billion dollars in initial military aid. The 'security supplementation package' comes on the heels of a deal struck by Meridonian and Sombrish officials on a lucrative development contract in Sombreland, and according to the President, 'engender Meridon's belief in standing by those who stood by us'. Conducted under the Foreign Military Aid Act of 2004, the deal is one of the largest supplements of both active and reserve Meridonian stock as well as equipment directly bought from suppliers to be sent to Sombreland.

The Defense Forces have stated that this aid will be delivered over the following weeks and months directly to the Royal Sombreland Armed Forces, and was selected based on the abilities of the RSAF to train and operate said equipment; its limited potential for escalatory effects, and the perceived needs of the RSAF. Perhaps most critical of delivered aid includes the export variant of the highly modern and capable Common Air Defense System air defense suite, with launchers, vehicles, and missiles to arm two battalions.

This evening, the Paramount Leader (acting in response to the ongoing attempt by the far-right Aquilinia Superior party to ban trade with Neo-Korea in relation to an article by K. Hoshino.) has announced that Neo-Korea will be terminating all ongoing economic and political relationships between the two nations, including the closing of embassies and the expulsion of certain corporate groupings from operating areas in Lushun. This action comes on the heels of the likely Marquesan-coerced restoration of the monarchy within the country, alongside the aforementioned trade incident. The Paramount Leader gave a speech elaborating upon his reasoning for the stalwart action against the corroded nation this evening, which will have its key sections reprinted in full below.

“…I do not take these actions joyously, nor do I hold the desire to unnecessarily compromise certain events to occur in the future in relation to our geopolitically-near neighbors in Azura, but there can be no continued interaction with a government formed on the wishes of a nation that seeks the destruction of our own, that seeks the return of Korea to its colonial shackles. There can be no interaction with a nation that has overridden the will of the mass- though they have attempted to obscure such- to fulfill the wishes of Marquesan capital. Government Reacts to Cessation of Formal Relations by Neo-Korea

Free City of Aquilinia. The Foreign Magistry, on behalf of the Government of the Free State, has tonight issued an official statement in response to the declaration of the Paramount Leader of Neo-Korea, Boom Dae, that all economic and diplomatic ties with the Free State were to be severed. This comes a mere week after Sen. Anna Augusta, AS, spoke in the Curia to demand such an act by the Free State, following an article in Neo-Korean newspaper "The Far Island Observer", attacking the reinstatement of the Aquilinian monarchy under Imperator Lucille II was approved in a unanimous vote by the Senate (we reported).

In the statement issued by Sen. Kujikawa Naoto, PPN, Magistrate for Foreign Affairs, she expressed her regret at hearing of the Neo-Korean Paramount Leader's decision. While few nations in Esvanovia maintain friendly relations with the nation in the far east of the region, known for the nigh-total control and complete disregard for human rights displayed by its government, it is hoped by many that continued economic co-operation paired with subtle diplomatic pressure would lead to an improvement in the living conditions of the state's citizens. Kujikawa stated her clear hope, that this setback in relations could be mended, while emphasizing that, without any improvement in the treatment of its people, it would be unlikely that the State of Neo-Korea would be able to improve its own standing among the region's nations.

In fact, it is so backwards that even the conservative Royal Court has been at odds with it for most of its existence, of course, until the wedding of Alavaine and Chasin. For many observers of Sombrish politics, the union of the two came as a shock, especially amongst a pool of comparatively more aligned suitors from within and outside Sombreland. The Thonist’s rapid ascension to the halls of power in the Kingdom may as well have turned time in the state back even further from where it was. The Cult even shot Sombreland itself in the foot by leaving the ICON alliance, and doubling down on the persecution of Enme and Imperial Missionaries spreading the true word of God in Sombreland.

However, despite her ultra-traditional branding, many details about Alavaine’s personal life have emerged that reveal the truth behind her facade of morality and tradition - a sapphic adulterer. While it may sound sensationalist, bear in mind all of these details are revealed through diplomatic sources and various palace sources to the staff of The Midnight Sun, and all of these combine to paint a very clear picture of what Alavaine truly is, rather in brand for the Godless, primitive kingdom she runs.

From a very young age, she has had a companion - her now lady-in-waiting, Countess Uwanda Carnelian. Ladies-in-waiting are not a particularly alien thing to us, either, after all. Despite having just wedded her husband and placating the Cult of Thon, Alavaine chose to dance with Carnelian first, intimately looking and feeling each other, as is what is often observed of the two. Even during and after her marriage, it is clear that this woman chooses to pursue her sapphic, extramarital relationship with her lady-in-waiting rather than her lawfully wedded husband. The facade of modesty and moral righteousness projected by the her, in her alliance with the Cult of Thon and support of the detainment of Imperial Missionaries shatters when one learns about her antics. And considering all of these details, it is not ridiculous to imagine that the two have taken their affair to sexual levels as well, perhaps even following Alavaine’s marriage.

If all of Sombreland’s disgusting practices are not enough evidence that the kingdom, a relic of a bygone, morally bankrupt era, needs to be cleansed from this continent, then the actions of its very leader show how deeply rooted the Kingdom’s degeneracy, that from the highest rungs of leadership, it all stems down. As the mantle of HMDEIM Cnut I entails us, it is our duty as Enme and followers of God to ensure that such affairs do not exist on this sacred continent, and fulfill the destiny that was enshrined to us by God himself a millennia ago at last.

As I sit here this evening pondering the future of the Creicean space program, I am reminded of the fateful conversation had at the press conference more than a decade ago now where then-DDT (Diastimikí Dýnami tou Tryfonátou) president Philipos Alexandros laid out the vision for a future where reusable space planes would haul more crew and payload than had ever before been attempted by the Creicean government. He spoke of vacuum chambers where maglev technology would accelerate spacecraft to exit velocity over hundreds of kilometers, thrusting them into the heavens with only a fraction of the energy needed with conventional rocketry.

It sounded like a fantasy. Today, fantasy becomes reality.

The brand new Astéri Spor, or Star Ports long fabled by DDT leadership finish construction this week, bringing Creice to the precipice of a new frontier in space exploration. Through the hard work of Royal Marquesan Exports, corporate investing partners, foreign backers and liberal funding from the central bank in Vousa, the brand new massive launch complexes are having the final touches placed upon them. On Tuesday, a special ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held to mark the occasion with the final installation of the exit sections of the tunnels at each of the two brand new facilities.

The Astrikó Peninsula in southern central Creice is home to the brand new Star Port Gargantoúa, while Fidión Island in western Creice is home to the brand new Star Port Kolossós. The facilities at Kolossós were upgraded over the last five years to include new launch towers for conventional rocketry in addition to the space plane tunnel, or Diastimikí Síranga. Gargantoúa, formerly known as Launch Complex Alpha, has been the primary launch site for DDT dating back to the 1960s. It underwent a massive retrofit to compete for commercial contracts with its sister port in the west.

Each new facility houses the launch tunnels for the brand new Mesánychta-class orbital vehicles, reusable space planes that do not need the conventional rocket boosters necessary to lift traditional orbiters into low earth orbit. In addition, each port has landing facilities for the spacecraft, along with launch pads for DDT’s more conventional rocketry. The largest of Creice’s rockets, the Titanus launches from off the coast of the Astrikó Peninsula.

Twelve space planes of the new Mesánychta-class have been built: the Aeneas, Ariadne, Bellerophon, Cronus, Icarus and Prometheus will launch from the Gargantoúa facility. The Ajax, Atalanta, Cadmus, Daedalus, Perseus and Theseus will launch from Star Port Kolossós. The maiden voyage of the first space plane to launch, the Daedalus will leave from Kolossós in mid-October.

Neo-Korea hopes that its example will lead to more such efforts being carried out- for it is no absurdity to say that the results of this matter will be key for future developments of political relations across the world- and it is only through the example of a successful peaceable solution in this matter that certain matters will be capable of resolution without unnecessary bloodshed in the future- and if this attempt fails, it may result in far worse coming about.

In what is being heralded as the news report of the decade by multiple news broadcasting sources, a woman calling herself Mélisande revealed to Meridon and the world the existence of artificially created sapient life on Advent Island late Saturday Evening in the midst of an ongoing siege of the island by Federal authorities. In a scathing reveal of government and corporate corruption and exploitation, South Taikorea Broadcast Corporation journalist Emilia Anderson alongside Mélisande unveiled damning details regarding involvement of the Federal government alongside Matterhouse Chemicals, Willingstone Incorporated, and Parksun Realty in a wide-ranging attempt to create genetically perfect supersoldiers.

The 'creator' of these artificial beings, which are self-referred to as 'Composites', is a doctor referred to by the alibi of Victoria Kawakami; who according to the report is the woman behind the events of the 15 Rush, where all three companies were subjected to both ruthless stock exploitation resulting in bankruptcy and the exposure of its leadership's crimes by anonymous means- in the case of Byron Matterhouse, this culminated in his suicide at his Port Sistine office.

The island and its Composite occupants were discovered following the crash of an Air Forces Iolani transport tiltrotor in the early morning hours of Saturday. The area was cordoned by personnel from the Domestic Security Agency, and the Federal Aviation Commission began the process to enact a Flight Restriction Zone following a penetration by a civilian aircraft. Early in the night the Defense Forces reported the loss of an aircraft, which was later confirmed to have been shot down by the besieged composites. A second civilian aircraft piloted by Emilia Anderson penetrated the FRZ shortly after it went into effect and was shot down by Federal forces, where she was able to make contact with the Composite group on the island and over an hour later assisted them in delivering an address televised by Helena Broadcasting Corporation.

Public reaction was immediate and immense, with Silkroad servers crashing at least twice due to the amount of instantaneous activities before stable service was finally restored. Protests broke out in Cordelia, Port Sistine, Marin Bay, Misanui, and Kohaku demanding a formal government response after a press conference scheduled for shortly after the time of the broadcast was cancelled. Helena Broadcasting Corporation's main offices in Kohaku were raided; and a number of journalists and officials were arrested in the early morning hours by police and DSA agents both in Kohaku and in the South Taikorea Broadcasting Corporation's headquarters in Lanaia, Taikorea, which have elicited concurrent protests in front of DSA field offices in Misanui, Kohaku and Port Sistine and its headquarters in Cordelia. The protests have grown throughout the course of the day and have expanded to include the cities of Tullamarina, Makohine, Baymark, Kisanui, Kohina, Carterstown and Alanstown. Protests have expanded to demand an immediate ceasefire and the establishment of negotiations between the government and the Composite cell on the island. The Domestic Security Agency and the Meridon Defense Forces have refused to offer comments, citing 'operational concerns' and that further releases will be done as authorized by the President. Eastern Islands governor Eileen Trebleau, in a phone interview with the Cordelian, revealed that she and her administrations have received "virtually no" communications from the Federal Government and have called on the President to deliver a news conference 'as soon as humanly possible' to clear the air.

The Federal Council has been quick to take up sides on the issue on both sides of the bench. While the opposition Liberal Party has offered a muted response, coalition partners including from the Worker's and New Meridon Party have issued announcements calling for a ceasefire and opportunity for dialogue. Manu Ahara, the leader of the Tangaran Unity Party, has called for an immediate ceasefire and a mediated settlement between the groups by a neutral party, statements that were blasted by the Union Party's Victor Diaz as 'tantamount to treason'. Federal Party leader Emily Richardson has urged for calm and understanding in a 'complex time', calling for the nation to 'allow our government to do its work'. The Agrarian and Green parties have not issued unified statements on the development.

Foreign interest in the topic has been received as well, with Omiskan releasing a call supporting negotiations as a mediatory agency, and sources in Anagonia report that the Confederate States is preparing to issue a declaration in support of the Composites. The State Department in a separate press briefing on Sunday morning stated that "we ask foreign nations to refrain from interfering in a sensitive and ongoing domestic occurrence that is rapidly evolving" and not to "act on unconfirmed and unsubstantiated claims made by terrorists."

Urban clashes between protestors, authorities, and counterprotestors highlight widening divide in public opinion.

Territorial Forces soldiers from 17 Regt Ayallon in Cordelia early Monday morning in the aftermath of violent overnight protests after the shootdown of a DAP charter flight. Calls criticizing government responses to the crisis on Advent Island continue to grow as President Acton and his administration remains tight-lipped.

In urban centers across Meridon and in the face of rapidly and dynamically developing protests over the Advent Island crisis, Federal and Territorial government officials in some locales have activated Territorial Forces to supplement beleaguered metropolitan police forces in the face of intensifying civil demonstrations, protests, and in some places riots in what is one of the worst Meridonian domestic political crises in over 40 years.

In the early evening hours of Sunday, a Development and Aid Project charter plane on a highly-publicized mission to deliver 'humanitarian supplies' to beleaguered Composites that are locked in a standoff with the Federal government was shot down close to 200 miles north of the published exclusion zone by Air Forces fighters intercepting it, killing all five people on board. The intercept and its aftermath were captured on flight-tracking websites including FlightScope.

While the DAP and the families of the volunteer crew lost in the shootdown have announced they will be filing suit against the Defense Forces and the Federal Government, many regular citizens took a more proactive approach- joining pre-existing protests regarding government mishandling and enflaming tensions in a number of domestic centers. Protests evolved into riots in a number of major city centers- most prominently Misanui, Port Sistine, and Cordelia, in which protests have resulted in the overnight deaths of at least twelve protestors and the injury of hundreds, including close to a dozen police officers.

President Acton, however, is reportedly planning to stay the course. A spokesperson for Whiteriver Manor stated that the President's approach to the Advent Island confrontation 'has not changed' and that Meridon will continue to handle the Composites on the island as a terrorist cell. The President made his first public address on the topic earlier this morning in a televised press briefing.

"The basic situation remains unchanged on Advent Island- that a rogue group is holding territory and citizens of Meridon hostage in an attempt to force a desired outcome", the President said from a Whiteriver briefing room. "We did not negotiate with terrorists when they flew planes into our home in New England, and we will not negotiate with them now. The situation on the island can be resolved peacefully if all of those involved on it lay down their arms peacefully and surrender themselves to authorities."

Acton- and his Federal Party, which were riding on historic highs following a stunning military and political victory in the War in New England- have seen their approval rating take a nosedive, with reported approval polling for the President dropping to 41% from a high of 73%. Senator Anna Sacristán, an NMP Federal Councilor from Helena territory, has announced that negotiations with the Acton administration on the government's handling of the Advent affair have 'stalled' and that the New Meridon Party is preparing to launch a vote of no confidence in the Senate against the President. This comes amidst mounting tensions between Meridon's allies- most notedly Anagonia and Blauveldt-Ryszana, the latter of which is speculated to have contributed in some form to the creation of the Composites on Advent. The Defense Force's shootdown of the DAP flight, as well as the sacking of Defense Chief General John Argus and the suspension of war-famous General John Ironwood has inflamed international opinions and drawn increasing public attention to the crisis on Advent Island.

"The most basic tenets that we hold our governments to is constituent accountability- particularly in the face of a crisis;" Sacristán spoke to a protest crowd in Kohaku, the capital of Helena Territory. "If President Acton thinks he is the sole light by which this country is lead he is dead wrong and our (New Meridon) Party is going to make that plenty clear. Mister President- come to the table or we will drag you there!"

While no official announcements have come from other political parties about a vote of new confidence, political insiders are reporting that high-level discussions between the Federal Council's parties are undergoing, particularly those in the opposition, and that more official announcements can come 'any time now.' Whiteriver Manor has blasted the talks as "damaging" and "dangerously divisive in a time of national crisis".

Naval and aerial deployments around the island are increasing, with reports of additional vessels from both the Naval Coastal Service and warships including at least one guided missile cruiser adding to a frigate and offshore patrol vessel already present. Despite the presence of at least one newscaster on the island alongside Composites, broadcasts and updates from inside have been limited. Although some are speculating with the impending arrival of a low-pressure system into the Southern Islands by mid-day today that the Defense Forces on the islands may be preparing an attack, military experts reporting to the Cordelian warn that an attempt to storm the compound could come at any time.

Col (Ret) Riley Martin, a former Ranger, told the Cordelian that the MDF possesses "every necessary advantage desired by an assaulting force;" however there are a number of factors that are likely playing into their decision to prolong a siege.

"I can almost guarantee the presence of Meridonian hostages in the form of that news crew, willing or not, is playing into the decision, as well as optics that are increasingly looking poor for the Defense Forces. It is also possible they are holding aircrew from the Iolani crash, although it would be curious that they would not announce their wellbeing publicly especially that they have a venue to do so. From an operational standpoint, the threat is entirely contained on every axis, and the only real factor is time- which may play into the hands of both parties."

The siege looks prepared to stretch into a fourth day regardless. More on this developing story will be released as it becomes available.
