Hey, I hate my job. But I'm not gonna throw a fit and refuse to do it because I'm not getting treated like a king. Also, pretty sure they're making plenty of money. They're freaking Hollywood writers. They ain't making minimum wage out there.

They're not swimming in it, if that's what you're imagining.

Why shouldn't they get the pay they deserve and assurances they will not be replaced? Their demands aren't unreasonable at all. I want my tv back too but I want those who create it be treated with the respect they deserve.

Hey, you know who's not getting paid? All the cameramen, makeup people, grips, etc. that are also now out of work because a bunch of writers got pissy.
So yeah, real heroes those guys.

This might shock you but none of them agree with you, the entire industry is behind them.

IATSE, the union that represents those workers, stands with the WGA. Why? Because they're all in this together. The ones at NBC are getting pay and benefits.
So, you're attempt to weaponize other film workers is just a you thing. I've seen members from every guild out on the line and PAs have been bringing food and water to the writers. A good contract for the WGA means a better contract for them, especially SAG and DGA whose contracts end on June 30th.

NOt a surprise, if the companies give in to the writers, then the other guilds would have a significantly stronger place to negotiate from.

Do you act like this when there’s a dockworkers’ strike too? “Why can’t they get their lazy humps back to work, there’s cheap shit from China I want to consume that’s being held up,” that sort of thing?

...I live in Kentucky. I don't really have an opinion on dockworkers. Not something I see a lot of...if ever.

IATSE, DGA, Teamsters, LIUNA, PGA, AFM, and the entire fuckin AFL-CIO are backing them. Union solidarity means union solidarity and backing a strike and NEVER crossing a picket line. Even if it's your own pocket that's hurting, the management is hurting worse.Ifreann wrote:Good point, Ameri, IATSE should join this strike. Solidarity forever!
Side note: IATSE has a specific no-sympathy-strike clause after their latest negotiations. They can't join in striking, but they're (afaik) allowed to picket with them when they're not contractually obligated to work. Management can't force them to cross a picket line though, that's a huge no-no, so in effect there's a work stoppage.

You gotta figure that for the bosses to insist on a no-sympathy-strike clause they must have known there'd be more strikes coming.

Yeah, that's about the gist of it. IATSE members are well represented on the line, and if they have to cross a picket line to work they can refuse, but they could end up temporarily replaced. But there's no penalty other than the lost day for refusing to cross the picket line.
And there's general sympathy for those that can't refuse. I can't speak for all the locations but so far everyone has been treating cars going in and out with indifference. Some have even stopped to hand out food and water. Kinda drowning in donuts. Friday a catering coffee truck pulled up and made coffee for the picketers. I'm not even sure catering has a production union. I probably should know that...oh, of course. IATSE. When in doubt, IATSE.

Oh 10000% lmao. It's definitely the bosses going "oh fuck... the writers are *definitely* going to strike," and then realizing that IATSE on strike means they're ffuuuuuuuuuucccckkkkeeeddd for ages. Because the writers being on strike is only bad for the nightly shows for now, but if IATSE were to have a strike, the movie schedules would be so fucked.
