Legend
In the results grid, each row contains a team’s home matches and each column contains a team’s away matches. The home score is on the left. The fixtures are played in the following order (1 indicates the first team listed in the group draw, 2 indicates the second team, et cetera): 2v3, 4v1 · 1v2, 3v4 · 3v1, 2v4 · 1v3, 4v2 · 3v2, 1v4 · 2v1, 4v3

If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches, the following criteria are applied to determine the rankings:

  1. higher number of points obtained in the group matches played among the teams in question,
  2. superior goal difference from the group matches played among the teams in question,
  3. higher number of goals scored in the group matches played among the teams in question,
  4. higher number of goals scored away from home in the group matches played among the teams in question,
  5. superior goal difference,
  6. higher number of goals scored,
  7. higher number of goals scored away from home,
  8. higher number of wins,
  9. higher number of wins away from home,
  10. lower disciplinary points total based only on yellow and red cards received in all group matches (red card = 3 points, yellow card = 1 point, expulsion for two yellow cards in one match = 3 points),
    1. Champions League & Challengers Cup: higher club coëfficient ranking,
    2. Liga B Champions Trophy & Rising Stars Cup: drawing of lots,
    3. Super Cup: kicks from the penalty mark.
In the Super Cup, only criteria 1, 5, 6, and 11c apply.

Season 1988

Another season comes and goes and we are starting to once more see the Blades flex their muscle, their financial might, and the general leg up in history and pedigree that they have over other squads in the nation with the level of talent that they can attract. While the transition to a fully professional top tier is more or less complete at this point, with all the teams who took part in the Pride League this season operating at a fully professional level, there is still a certain charm that Likewell Kirk has over their competitors. While it might be near on a century ago at this point, the Blades were the only team from Demot to lift an international trophy, having won an UICA Globe Cup in ages past. They are by far the best team in the league and should in theory be able to supply the best players for the national team and their continued resurgence in the regional championship, but this is not the case for some reason. Despite domestic dominance, the players from the team seem to have a lack of flair when it comes to the international scene, be it in the AOCL or representing the nation. For the club to grow, that's where it need be, as the Druid Cup also has highlighted their lack of vigor in knockout competition, failing to reach the final in either edition so far. Though they are far from the only top team who has had trouble adjusting to the new tournament in the schedule.

Gallant Cross entered the final aiming to be the first side to win multiple Liga B Champions' Trophies in history, attempting to emulate the 5 repeat winners of the UICA era, and also hoping to make Brenecia the most successful Liga B association in history with a possible third title. This is Brenecia's 6th appearance in IFCF finals, having won three, and their tenth in total across the combined UICA/IFCF eras. Meanwhile Holhot United are only the second Poafmer side to reach the final of a senior IFCF competition, looking to go one better than the Pacifica side that lost the 8th LBCT final in Mertagne - Mancodas City U19s have found success in the Rising Stars' Cup though. In the end, the Poafmers succeeded where their compatriots did not, a single goal separating the two sides as Holhot United win their first ever Liga B Champions' Trophy.

Updated coefficients are available.

The entry limits for the next season of IFCF competition will be as follows:

The 14th Champions League: The number of teams allowed is determined according to the association coëfficient ranking, with the following distribution:
  • Associations ranked 1–4 (Zwangzug, Valladares, Chromatika, Audioslavia) are allowed to enter four teams.
  • Associations ranked 5–8 (Mytanija, Kelssek, Valanora, Ko-oren) are allowed to enter three teams.
  • Associations ranked 9–32 (Quebec and Shingoryeo, Eura, Pasarga, Farfadillis, Squornshelan Remnant States, Nephara, Zeta Reka & Hügeltaldom, Savojarna, Banija, Turori, Vilita, Darmen, The Licentian Isles, Brenecia, Tumbra, Astograth, Eastfield Lodge, Adab, Commonwealth of Baker Park, Tikariot, Flavovespia, Eraman, Saint Eleanor, Cordian Isles) are allowed to enter two teams.
  • Associations ranked 33 and below, and unranked associations, are allowed to enter one team.
Special considerations:
  • Fontvielle Impact and Arlington City are assured places in the Champions League group stage. If either fails to qualify through their domestic league, their association will receive an additional place. If either titleholder qualifies for the Challengers Cup, their Challengers Cup place will be vacated.
  • Shango-Fogoa Premier League: Has four places. Farfadillis and Banija must each enter at least one team.
  • V-League: Has four places. Vilita and Turori must each enter at least one team.
  • Ancherion Super League, Twin Premier League, Rabastor Premier League, United League: Have two places, which must be filled by their two primary associations.
The 14th Challengers Cup: Every association is allowed to enter three teams. Multiassociational leagues with two primary associations may enter six teams, of which no more than four may be from the same association; associations ranked 1–4 must enter at least two teams each, and associations ranked 5–12 (including Farfadillis) must enter at least one team each.

The 14th Liga B Champions Trophy: Every association is allowed to enter three teams. Multiassociational leagues with two primary associations may enter six teams, of which no more than four may be from the same association.

The 14th Rising Stars Cup: Every association is allowed to enter one team. (The youth teams of clubs which reach the Champions League group stage will also be entered.) Multiassociational youth leagues with two primary associations may enter two teams, which must be from different associations.
  • 1923 Esca is assured a place in the Rising Stars Cup. If it does not qualify as champion of its domestic youth league, Mytanija will receive an additional place in the youth champions path. If its senior team qualifies for the Champions League group stage, it will enter the Champions League path instead.

Additional notes:
  • Participants are reminded that puppets must be declared in the entry form. IFCF Council also received an unspecific accusation that at least three users have undeclared puppets in excess of the one puppet allowed each. We have not been able to substantiate this claim but urge all users to respect each other and abide by this long-standing rule.
  • The provisional deadline for the 14th cycle is 26 February 2023.

  • Zwangzug's site bid for the League of Victors finals was shifted to be for the Confederations Trophy, after the staff realised that Zwangzug hosted the last League of Victors finals and Poafmersia hosted the last Confederations Trophy finals. The staff internally decided it would be better if a nation don't host back-to-back finals for a particular competition, and encourages other associations to make submissions for host site finals.
  • Toluiwa (TLW) and Cakranegara (CKR)'s resubmissions are accepted. These associations are reminded to submit a fresh entry with a fresh season for the next FFI cycle.
  • FFI reminds all submitting entrants to follow the entry form similiar to that of the IFCF, and that any puppet relationship should be adequately declared as such.
  • With just 11 associations entering the competition this time, the Round of 32 will be skipped for both competitions once again.
  • Starting from the posting of this list, associations have 3 days to notify us if there is any mistakes with the entry list. The entry list will be taken as final after the cutoff and no appeals will be entertained.
  • Edit as at 1100UTC, 06 Jan 2023 - It was brought to my attention that titleholders are supposed to get direct entry to the competition without taking up a spot of the given association, therefore, FC Herone (JUE) will be entered into the League of Victors instead of the Confederations Trophy, while AC Pomea (JUE) and Amel-Marduk (ADB) will be entered into the Confederations Trophy. The draw was adjusted as follows

Future bids for host stadia will be taken into consideration, though the default in case of no bids will always be the stadium of Stade de Torgos in Torgos. A final reminder also that all Rushmori nations only (including any and all puppets) will be able to submit their league champions only (or top ranked team in the event of multi-associational leagues of more than one Rushmori nation) for entry into the next CdC; this includes puppet leagues that don't submit to IFCF. The submission period opened when the IFCF closed entries to the last IFCF tournaments, and will close again when the IFCF closes entries to the next IFCF tournaments. No invitations will be sent. You must indicate at the bottom of your league summary that you wish your league champion to take part, and I take no responsibility for missing it if you've only shown it in your table.

Keep your entries coming in for the next edition!

Procedural Notes:

  • The entries of Spartak Wortheighton (Stevencousin), Sepat Sportiva FC (Anjung Batu), and Astena Rangers (Atheara) were rejected since all of these clubs were entered as winners of a post-season play-off. Moreover, the entry of AFC Sheffield U (Murphtannia) was rejected since the aforementioned club won a play-off match. Associations are reminded that winners of play-off or super cup competitions may not be entered into the Cup Winners' Cup.
  • The entries of AC Lopel (Ancherion) and AC Croscia (Macbon) were accepted on the condition that for next season their association submits their cup results according to Cup Winners' Cup regulations. Failure to comply with this provision will result in the exclusion of their entries for next season.
  • Maethoru SC (Ko-oren) were entered into the competition as titleholders even though their association failed to include them in their entry form, per competition regulations.

Previous Winners: Cup Winners' Cup History

Welcome one and all to the sixty-first edition of the Cup Winners' Cup, brought to you by the International Federation of Club Football or IFCF for short. Final Site Election

Three football associations (Kelssek, Vilita, and Poafmersia) expressed their interest in hosting this edition's final and sent their bids, with the Organizing Committee accepting all of them. This time, the bidders were informed that the Organizing Committee members were utterly disappointed at the appalling lack of detail of some of the respective bid dossiers, and therefore they would not waste time in choosing any of the proposed bids. Instead, they opted to delegate the decision to a group of random passers-by found in downtown Metropolis, who in turn decided to do it the easy way and assigned each bid a number, marked off three pieces of paper, and tossed them into a bag. Then another passer-by randomly selected one paper and took it out of the bag. That person ended up choosing the paper marked with the number "1", meaning that the sixty-first Cup Winners' Cup final will be played at Stade Olympique in Outineau, Kelssek (cap. 55,200).

Engdahl Institute manage to break Tilden's stranglehold on the modern-era IUCC!

For future editions, I plan to implement the inverse-rank system used by the Hockey Champions' League: "i.e., 1st has a skill of 25 and 25th has a skill of 1, rather than the raw nation coefficient." Of course, higher seeds will continue to have a bonus relative to their association's lower seeds. Please let me know if you have strong opinions on this proposal.

As usual: the cutoff for the next IUCC will coincide with the IFCF cutoff. Both new and returning associations may submit up to four schools in seeded order. (If Engdahl Institute would qualify directly, Zwangzug are entitled to an additional submission.) Please list your qualifiers in a post containing the word "IUCC," along with (a link to) evidence of scorination. You may also submit a stadium as a candidate to host the final, if desired.

In addition, in recognition of the myriad tactics on display across the multiverse, you may also submit a style modifier from -5 to +5 for each competing school.

The 61st Cup Winners' Cup

Final
Played at Stade Olympique in Outineau, Kelssek

(MYT) Atletik 0–1 Stein-los Turkish (PAS)

Congratulations to Stein-los Turkish, who defeated Mytanija's Atletik to win their first Cup Winners' Cup title in their second attempt, having previously lost to Marinos Metropolis in the final match of the 39th CWC edition. They have thus joined Tanrısal as the only Pasargan winners of the Cup Winners' Cup, as well as the only two teams from that nation to have reached the final.

Notes for Cup Winners' Cup Entry

  • Each association may enter ONE club into the Cup Winners' Cup, with the exception of Pasarga which may enter one club in addition to Stein-los Turkish.
  • Should Stein-los Turkish win their qualifying national association or league cup, the spot held over for a second Pasargan entrant will be vacated.
  • Clubs can only qualify through ONE domestic cup competition.
  • For multiassociational cup competitions, only the cup winner is entitled to enter the Cup Winners' Cup. Associations taking part in such competitions that grant the winner qualification for the Cup Winners' Cup may not qualify clubs through a different cup tournament.
  • Each user may enter clubs from no more than two associations. Puppet nations must be declared upon entry.
  • With the exception of Stein-los Turkish, all entered teams must have won a national association or league cup; Super Cup winners and winners of play-offs cannot be entered.
  • Entrants must be posted in the International Domestic Soccer NewsWires (i.e. this thread), and at least the last three knockout rounds of the domestic cup tournament (i.e. quarterfinals, semifinals, and final) must have been scorinated and posted (with a link in the IDSN if it is posted elsewhere).
  • The deadline for Cup Winners' Cup entry will expire at the same time as the IFCF one.

Stadium bids for the final of the 62nd edition of the Cup Winners' Cup are now being invited. Only stadiums with a minimum capacity of 30,000 people will be eligible to bid for the final, and bids should be posted in this thread with relevant details of the stadium and its facilities.

Finals
Held at Potato Villa (cap. 56,000), Sarim, Tikhas, Poafmersia.

In the early days of the FFI competititions, Poafmersia was considered a superpower in the competition, with Bikarish lifting the 1st FFI Liga dos Vencedores (now League of Victors), while Trimidau Rukiya won the 4th FFI Liga dos Vencedores. However, the association as a whole couldn't replicate their early results in recent competitions, with Dury FC the last Poafmersian team to appear in a FFI finals, falling short against Corona Christiana (OME) in the 8th League of Victors. On the other hand, Oscirou is a rising new association, who first participated in FFI8, skipped FFI9 and FFI10, and marked their return in FFI11 with AC Cutti representing the association in their first FFI finals, in the Confederations Trophy. This time, Canzaria FC took one step further, and made it to the League of Victors finals.

(OSC) Canzaria FC 0–2 Fiskadaha FC (PFA)

Congrats to Poafmersia for earning their third League of Victors title, and for Fiskadaha FC to be the third club from Poafmersia to lift the trophy

Finals
Held at ZS^3 (cap. unk), Zwischen, Zwangzug

Its 3 consecurive FFI finals for Adab, with the Confederations Trophy defending champions Adab United aiming to clinch their second Confederations Trophy title in a row. They face Mosul, who dropped into the Confederations Trophy after being eliminated by DVB Dompo (TLW) in the League of Victors qualification round.

(ADB) Mosul e 2–1 Adab United (ADB) (1–1 FT)

Congratulations to Mosul for winning the Confederations Trophy!

  • The latest FFI coefficients can be found here.
  • Fiskadaha FC (PFA), as titleholders, will be given a direct entry into the League of Victors, without taking up the association's entry slot.
  • Mosul (ADB), as titleholders, will be given a direct entry into the Confederations Trophy, without taking up the association's entry slot. However, should Mosul (ADB) qualify for the League of Victors through league placement, its spot in the Confederations Trophy will be vacated and not carried forward.
  • Associations are encouraged to submit one finals site bid for either the League of Victors or Confederations Trophy final.

GS SuperSports+ Testículos
Season 2

This not the Galacticos. They belong to Delte and will be his to resume, or not, should he ever wish. This is instead a personal project, a list of the top-ish players in the world-ish, with no particular claim to legitimacy and certainly no claim to exclusivity. The name derives from an unfortunate translation error by Cabañas Calligraphy when GS SuperSports+ attempted to order a “golden ball” trophy, commonly given out to winners of footballing awards.

This is once again a longlonglist and the aim of getting down from 172 names closer to 100 has made exactly 0 progress. Exactly, for we once again have 172. (Slightly more, if you count some of those Quebecois double-barrels twice. Next time we’ll pick some Daineri to cancel them out.)

I will make corrections and amendments to this list as follows:
  • If I’ve spelled someone’s name incorrectly, or used the wrong naming convention.
  • If I’ve assigned them to the wrong nation, the wrong team, the wrong league, or the wrong position. On this last, I used my judgement splitting attack midfielders and forwards, assigning roles to players listed only as “defender”, determining whether a wide player was a full back, midfielder/wing, or forward, etc.
  • If I’ve included a player who has died or who should otherwise not be included for IC reasons.
  • If you so object to having your players or teams included in this list that you actively wish for me to remove any mention of them.
A few pointers:
  • The list is top heavy for WCC and IFCF rankings and performances. This means some users will have many players included, and many users will have none. But given this is a ranking of the world’s best, that is to be expected. At the same time I have made an effort to sprinkle in some more esoteric selections. Ultimately no one will be entirely happy, but you may take comfort in knowing the player you are aghast to see left off was definitely the 173rd pick.
  • Many teams list their striker and attacking midfielder as their star players. These players also tend to win the bulk of MVP awards. This means there are doubtless many great forwards and midfielders not on the list. If it’s any consolation, my star striker (still) didn’t make the cut either.
  • I made judgement calls on positions. Players not clearly assigned to a side of the pitch were judged to be central defenders/midfielders. I combined fullbacks and wide midfielders/wings irrespective of which side they played on, and combined defensive and offensive midfielders. The final selection will make a distinction here; future longlists may do so.
  • The list is based on the last cycle, particularly the 92nd World Cup and 13th IFCF season. It does not take into account the next WC cycle or domestic roleplaying for the forthcoming 14th IFCF season at all.
  • As last time, the list contains some notable omissions. Once again, teams with strong World Cup records but no domestic activity are not well represented, nor are teams that play exclusively in regional competitions.
  • I have used trigrams in order to make it easy for people to search. The final post will use mini-flags, and will take approximately 900 hours to compile.
  • This is 100% intended as fun and potential RP fodder, so IC responses are fine. Genuine errors or any other feedback is also welcomed OOC.
And now, the longlonglist for the 13th IFCF cycle Testículos...

The Beaucester Gazette
Fans' Season Review at Halfway
Italia Joyful, Albion Remorseful

AS Catamouge
Current Mood: Subterranean
Season Highlight: Nothing, literally nothing. We've been, in equal measures, unlucky, poor and abysmal. Sacking manager Paul Erston seemed fair, 1 point in the first 4 games. But Pierre Rossi has done little to turn things around. If you forced me to pick, gun to my head, it was Pizan's hattrick of assists for Benedetti's hattrick of goals against Diepfleet, these two are our only crumbs of comfort.
The Downside: Where to start? And how much can I write? We've been shambolic under both managers. We've got one of the largest fanbases in the league, we've also got one of the country's best players in Vesper Benedetti, and yet here we are. Barring him, Kuhl and Pizan, our players are well below the standard, all below the league average. Take the three out and we'd struggle to get out of the second tier. The low point was probably the last home display, an early lead against Munster gave the fans some home, Benedetti bagging his 9th of the season, but then some woeful defending put us 3-1 down. The very worst bit was the lack of fight afterwards, Munster looked in control and the fans didn't even bother to stick around to boo.
Fan Atmosphere: Due to current form it's gone from solid to poor. We've struggled in recent years as the population of the town, and gates, have decreases, but with poor form and the running track, the 14,000 person arena feels bordering on empty. Results will need to be turned around if the fans are to come back on side.
Expectations: 8 points adrift and halfway in? I'd say we're sunk. We'd need a massive turnaround in form to even think of staying up now. There needs to be some serious moves in the transfer market, preferably with reinforcements in the middle of the park, Alessandri is well below par.

AS Samita
Current Mood: A solid 7/10
Season Highlight: A few to choose from, it's been a wild ride returning to Division 1 and there have been some real high points. Winning away against our nominal city rivals Albion and Italia was massive for our fan base, and injected some much needed needle on the other side of these derbies. But the real highlight has been the manager, Xanthi Kostis. She transformed the club bringing us up from the second tier, she continues to impress with an assertive style of play and some great acquisitions. The three Bs upfront, Beaugemont, Byng and Benoit, are the envy of our fellow mid-table clubs, and they have ripped into defences with gusto. The positive, pressing, style of play Kostis has pioneered puts us head and shoulders above our rivals tactically.
The Downside: We honestly can't have many complaints, having come up we're clear of the relegation zone for now and should have enough in us to stay up. The only worry is in defence. Kostis had it performing decently in the division below, but we've got one of the worst defensive records in the league. Antonio Silva is a decent centre-back, but at 18 can't be expected to provide all the leadership. Morin looks well below the level besides him and Fernanda Carter has dropped several clangers in goal, which is costing us results.
Fan Atmosphere: I fully expect all other 9 sets of fans to claim the same, but we've got the truly the best atmosphere in the league. Sallust Park is small, but it's more enclosed than other grounds and with no running track the fans don't find it hard to make themselves heard.
Expectations: I expect we will continue to provide thrilling results in both directions. More spectacular wins, such as the 4-2 against Albion, as well as the spectacular collapses, like the 5-3 reverse against Diepfleet. If we stay up for another season I will be thrilled, but playing like this I'm sure we would bounce straight back, they don't know when their beaten. Eyes are also following on the Super Cup semi-final, our matchup with Mosfleet Albion could provide a shock.

Diepfleet
Current Mood: About 5 or 6 out of 10?
Season Highlight: A couple of statement wins here or there, mixed in with the odd crushing defeat. The real highlight has been feeling the togetherness of the fans, each home game has been a joyous watch, and with a decent batch of players at Ariggo's disposal it's been almost fun watching them. No one is under any illusions, this is a very limited side, but Doug Reid's impishness in midfield has been decisive in several contests, particularly his two assists and goal in our 6-2 demolition of Munster. But we knew Reid was good, Will Cork's imperious displays at the base of midfield and Rollo's goalscoring exploits upfront have been much more surprising, it's hard to remember the last time we were nuturing this much young talent. We know we'd probably struggle to push for a Challengers Cup spot via the league, but a cup run certainly doesn't look beyond this team, and the win against Albion earlier this season shows we can spring a surprise.
The Downside: For how good we are sometimes, some of the displays have been abject, and our defence seems to be in the mantra that when it rains, it must pour. Getting pasted 5-2 by an uneven Scolastico side was particularly disappointing, especially given how well both the strikers and Johnson in goal performed! Redvers Johnson has also been a faithful club servant for many years, but you worry who will replace the 40 year old.
Fan Atmosphere: One of the best, surely. Diepfleet is a football town, through and through, without a Rugby club to distract us. Doug Reid's continued brilliance never fails to light up the faces at Stadio Breve, fueling persistent concerns that he will be snatched from us.
Expectations: Hard to pin down at this point, we sit four points from relegation and three off of second place, a good string of results could put us in the spots for international appearances, but if Doug Reid gets injured we're surely doomed. I'll say we will stay up and could well put on a cup run.

FC Campina
Current Mood: Surprisingly Bouyant
Season Highlight: Simple as being above the drop zone at Christmas. When we went up the expectation was that we would immediately sink again, as we have done with frequency before. But, we stand just outside the drop on goal difference, and super Gio is the reason why. No one could have expected that Varisco would turn up, but the former national team manager made his services available just as we came up, with Helen Esher deciding against renewing her contract. The effects have been spectacular, with our workmanlike squad being transformed from cannon fodder to a gutsy, defensive outfit. The three centre-backs have looked imperious, Hallie Marchioni has shown spectacular leadership in seeing us through some games. Further forward and picking up the out of contract Norah Drake from Albion seems a shrewd manouever, 3 goals and 5 assists for a team that struggles upfront has been really impressive. Ioannidis on the other wing has also had some great moments, and it's always a joy seeing a 17 year old mixing it with the nations finest. His cross for Bryson to score the winner over Munster last week was a highlight of the season.
The Downside: Probably the continued averageness of the squad. Our best players would simply be the filler in most other squads in the league, but we can't complain that they aren't playing well as a unit. A striker of genuine quality would make a hell of a difference. Heck, even a bit of plodding mediocrity might be preferable to Tyra Irwin being forced to carry the burden at just 19, she frequently looks outmatched by physical centre-backs.
Fan Atmosphere: With us playing above potential the mood is good, and expect the fans to back this team through what will surely become a difficult relegation battle ahead.
Expectations: The fact that I'm not expecting us to be relegated in disgrace shows a major swing from the start of the season. I expect that we'll battle to keep our place in the league, and that we will achieve it should Varisco get a couple of new faces through the door in the January transfer window. Rumours are currently abounding of a new, more dynamic, midfielder to help plug some of the dearth of creativity, with rumours that Fran Pine of Albion is looking for a loan move. Varisco's connections at Italia might help too, rumours has it that the experience Rossa Capello is tired of warming the bench and may well be heading our way up until the end of the season.

Hellenic Sports Club
Current Mood: 7/10
Season Highlight: The sheer resilience of this side. Yes we're not great in attack, our two strikers are bang average, but we can strangle a game and know how to keep things tight at the other end. The result being, we're in prime position for a Challengers Cup berth. We've done this through a total of 6 one goal wins, which has made all the difference. Grosso, Savalas and Cleja are an excellent defensive unit, with Willow, Martel and Marakakis forming a midfield that holds possession well and can really take control of a game. The most impressive display is surely in the 2-1 win away against Mosfleet Albion, who couldn't cope with the trios passing and movement, paving the way for a famous away victory. Historically we've always been the nation's third biggest club, but with good results and a great atmosphere, we have a real belief we can finally break the duopoly at the top of the league.
The Downside: The strikers, need I say more? I mean, I can. Miller and Stefanidis are both young, and they do provide plenty of huff and puff up front, chasing the lost causes, trying to tire the opposition centre-halfs. But between them, they've only hit the back of the net 7 times. 7 times! We're second in the league and the front two can't even manage a goal every other game. The midfield, full-backs and centre-halfs have chipped in enough between them to keep us ahead, but surely to kick on these two need to find a pair of shooting boots. If they can't, replacements are required.
Fan Atmosphere: Despite the results being decent, it's still a bit muted. We have a decent following but the stadium's shoddy state seems to be keeping them away, and the 15,000 capacity is probably slightly above what we require. An end of season chase for the Challengers Cup spot would surely bring them back out in greater numbers.
Expectations: Touch wood it should be finishing in second place. Albion look way short of where they were before and I can't see any reason why it shouldn't be us to capitalise. With us out of the Super Cup, courtesy of AS Samita turning it on, we should be looking to press ahead in the Island Trophy. It's been 22 years since we last took silverware, and while that remains out of reach for a lot of the division, it is surely about time we were challenging for something else again.

Italia Mosfleet
Current Mood: 9.5/10
Season Highlight: Sure I could say it's being 17 points clear at the top of the table. Sure I could say it's having the best defensive record and the highest total for goals scored. Hell, I could even point to any number of routine thrashing we've carried out (Diepfleet on the first day comes to mind). But, really, it's the schadenfreuder of seeing Albion, especially with Reynard at the helm, struggling down in third. 19 points away from us, they're already cut loose from the title, and they might even struggle to bag that all important second position. It's hilarious, heartening and the greatest thing to happen in years. Putting that to one side though, this might be the best Italia side I've seen. Those who've been in the national team setup have clearly benefited from facing high level opposition, with Freschi and Chizzo looking imperious in the back line. Rossellini and Scoular have come on leaps and bounds as well, and have contributed in all areas as wing-backs. Particularly exciting is young striker Alexei Garonz, 9 goals so far this season for the 23 year old, he might be knocking on the door of the NT soon.
The Downside: There's been very little in the way of downside given our dominance, but the defeat to AS Samita was a poor day, especially at home. We may have had some excuses, Freschi was out due to being overplayed, Bernardini out with a strain and Rossellini missing as well. But overall we have little reason to complain, so long as we don't send too many squad options on loan we should be competitive on all fronts.
Fan Atmosphere: Stadio Luca Spaletti is a notoriously hard place to get rocking. Whilst, in comparison to the league’s other clubs, it is usually full, fans are spoiled and any poor performance will sour the mood. However, Albion’s fall and some of our excellent displays have got the fans in their best mood since our dominance of the 60s.
Expectations: They’re sky high right now, talk of the treble abounds, with the league almost in the bag and two games to go in the Super Cup, only the Island Trophy remains a stretch. Again, I hope rumours of Capello and Pozzo going out on loan are untrue, we might need the squad depth in the run in.

Mosfleet Albion
Current Mood: 0/10
Season Highlight Frankly it’s been an atrocious first half to the campaign, we have a requirement for some serious reinforcements. But, Jackie Froggatt has continued to be amazing. For all else that we lack, she is a class apart. Her 13 goals (nearly half) have often being conjured out of nothing. Her hat trick in the 3-0 over Sablegaard stands out, with one from a mazy dribble and two from outside the box, she was the only flash of quality in a godawful game. With the quality displays she puts in for the national team we will have a job holding onto her.
The Downside: The biggest has been the sheer flatness of the displays. Barring Froggatt heroics, the other players frequently look lost, sending it sideways and caught in possession frequently. At the back, Rookes looks frequently off the pace, and Dickinson looks a shadow of his former self after Massi dropped him for the national team. In midfield McLoughlin is great but too young, and Len Phillips is enduring a torrid season. Error after error. The worst part is Reynard doesn’t seem to know how to change things, as he always has before.
Fan Atmosphere: Toxic, the worst I can remember it. The stadium expansion has come at the worst possible time, there’s now visibly empty sections of ground, which is a first. For the first time it feels as though the manager is rapidly losing popularity, he needs something to turn this season around.
Expectations: Hard to say now. I expect a reshuffling of the pack, and we should reestablish ourselves in second. If we were to win one of the cups it might salvage the season so far, but I have the dreadful feeling that Italia might claim the first treble since ours 5 years back.

Munster AFC
Current Mood: 4/10
Season Highlight: In attack, we’ve had some great moments. The 4-1 against Sablegaard was great fun, Newell and Blight have both been excellent on the wings, and have their rewards with 7 and 4 goals respectively. We might lack star power, but as a group they’ve pulled together some great performances. Whilst we’re further down the league than we’d hope, I think we’ll steer clear of danger as there seems to be a real unity in the group. For an individual moment, Ellen Honiton bagging an assists on her senior debut with a luscious cross was one I’ll remember. It might be a long time since we’ve won anything, but it’s always a joy to see an academy product thriving.
The Downside: Nothing sticks in the craw quite like a Derby defeat, and we’ve had two defeats to Scolastico now. Hellenic we’re traditionally the bigger rivalry, but the recent success of Scolastico has injected some needle into the contest. The defeat in the Super Cup was particular disappointment, Scolastico benefiting from some dodgy refereeing to put us out at the last. Other than that I have some concerns about our midfield, Owen Benedetti looks like he’s struggling and it’s making it very hard to control games, as witnessed in our collapse against Samita. It remains to be seen if there's anyone we could bring in during the January window who would be able to lift the squad, but this remains an area in dire need of addressing.
Fan Atmosphere: In common with most clubs, our stadium seems to leak atmosphere and is frequently not sold out. Perhaps we're just too disaffected now, glories of the past are impossible to match again when we can't compete with the big clubs on budget. But, I can't help but feel the chairman could do more to reach out to our fans. Food and drink remain overpriced, our best players leave the minute they're any good and there doesn't seem to be much ambition in our style of play or recruitment to suggest the on the pitch entertainment will be worth the price of admission.
Expectations: Hovering ominously above the drop zone, I fully expect that we'll be in it at some point and will need to scrap for survival. With Blight and Newell still fit I'd say we have a chance to make most teams uncomfortable, but if either picks up a knock I'd say that our season is over.

Sablegaard
Current Mood: 2/10
Season Highlight: Without a doubt it's been the emergence of Albrook and Kastrinakis as our full-backs. Both are incredibly young and both have been very handy in putting us on the front foot in some games. Both have looked especially good recently, without them we'd surely be cut adrift in the relegation zone. Other than that, there's been a few handy performances. I was particularly happy to see Gabbiadini bagging a hattrick on the opening day against our rivals, AS Catamouge. For all Benedetti is rated as the best in Elmyia, she looked the best player on the pitch, taking three goals on the break to grab all three points. There's been some greenshoot recently too, 5 points from the last three fixtures was nothing to sniff at given the opposition and hopefully the defence will solidify.
The Downside: We've been leaky in defence for sure, and the manager seems to struggle when plan A doesn't work. This was apparent when FC Campina managed to edge us out 1-0. With the full backs early crosses consistently cut out, or the players doubled on in wide areas, we suddenly had no build up play. The midfield looked lost and unable to progress the ball and we fell to a scrappy goal from a corner, by way of a melee in the goal mouth. For all we seem keen to go long, or play big crossfield passes, we often look hopeless at the second ball and find it coming straight back at us. A bit more consistency would be nice, and I would like to see the substitutes step up their performances a bit, there's not enough of a challenge to the first team!
Fan Atmosphere: Veering dangerous close to mutinous, the win against Samita has smoothed over a little bit of the tension, but this run of form needs to continue or Neil Carrick will find himself looking for work again. The stadium might be one of the more atmospheric usually, by the sea, crowd close to the pitch, but they need to be given more to sing about, otherwise Super, Super Gabbiadini might be the only chant getting a run out.
Expectations: I have that sinking feeling at the minute. For all the quality we have, it's hard to see which team will end up falling behind us. FC Campina are well managed, Munster feel too big to fail and Diepfleet and AS Samita just seem to have the pure vibes behind them this year, they feel like teams with enormous confidence. But, I could well be wrong. A couple of injuries elsewhere and we are lucky, then I can see us just scrapping survival.

Scolastico
Current Mood: 5/10
Season Highlight: Despite the regression on past form, there's still been plenty to enjoy. Forget the bollocks about anyone else, Sofia Katsouranis is simply the best in the land. Diligent, hardworking, quick and technical, she makes the team shine sometimes, and can take credit for the best of our performances. Her assist to Whittingham in the 5-2 demolition of Diepfleet was excellent, they simply did not know what to do about her. Elsewhere and we're all looking forward to the return of Valentina Galli to the lineup. She dominanted the middle in the first three fixtures, helping us to 7 points for 3, before selfishly rupturing her achilles tendon. Without her, the midfield has often struggled, so if she can return to fitness soon we might find we can better control games.
The Downside: It was always going to be hard for Leila Whelk to fill Benni Massi's shoes. He'd run all aspects of the club for years, overseeing systematic overperformance and bagging us major honours on a quarter of the big two's budgets. However, after the joy of the opening day, it's been a real adjustment. We're used to sitting clearer of the pack than this, but thankfully we've steered clear of the relegation zone. Galli coming back in and regaining fitness will surely help, but it's been concerning just how poor the midfield has looked without her. We've rarely looked in full control of a game, either attacking like headless chickens, or weathering attacks by clinging to the ropes. She deserves more time, but it remains to be seen if the club can emerge out of Massi's shadow at the second time of asking.
Fan Atmosphere: Due to our history of being a universities team, our fanbase has traditionally been quite small, but with the successes of the Massi years we sell out our little 5,000 person ground with ease. This season, the mood has been a little damper, as we don't expect to be in the hunt for trophies, but most fans are still being patient. We all know the new project will take time.
Expectations: Given the lows we had post Galli injury I don't think we're in too bad of a position. I could see us pushing on from here, and a third or second placed finish would be a great start for Whelk. We're also in the Super Cup semi-finals and the Island Trophy could provide an outlet for us in the second half of the season.

And now, because if I string this out it'll just end up getting mothballed like it did last time, live from the Royal & Imperial Recreation Club in Háttmark, Græntfjall, it's the Testículos!

It will be shown live on GS SuperSports+. It will be hosted by GS SuperSports+ anchors Jessika Jünkindietrünk, Ashlee Hollis, and Alyssa Söderström-Yoshikawa-Banana III.
The Testículos are a completely unofficial award. They're sponsored by GS SuperSports+ and the football analytics blog StatsPunk. You can see the longlonglist here: viewtopic.php?p=40244427#p40244427

The following awards will be handed out:

Testiculiño (Best Young Player)
Manager of the Year
Diamond Testículo (Special Lifetime Achievement Award)

After this we will get down to the business of naming the Testículos themselves.

The shortlist will comprise 26 players, with three goalkeepers, four for each of the outfield positions groups (split left/right in the case of full backs and wings), plus three others (provisionally, an extra defender, midfielder, and attacker).

From this shortlist will be drawn the final 11, those players who may proudly say: “I am a Testículo!”

And from this selection will be drawn the bronze and silver runner-up awards for best player in the world, before the final and most coveted announcement of all…

The Testículo de Oro!

footage of highlights of the last two years of football plays, while a kettle can be heard boiling in the background

Jessika: We're going to start with best young player. There will also be a shortlist of five players. Because of differences in species and the fluid nature of time there is no exact restriction on this award (if we’re going by youthfulness of visage it’s entirely possible Laborious Hawk is still eligible) but in general only those who participated in youth tournaments or were nominated for youth awards in the last cycle will be considered (even if they have now aged out of that category). The nominees are:

Drazen Skara (MYT) 1923 Esca (MYT)
Astrid Swain (NPH) Coret Hawks (NPH)
Amandara Navinsdóttir Thakur (GRF) Atletik (MYT)
Felixe Vetiver (NPH) 1830 Cathair (AUD)
Rebecca Anne Wawanolett (QUE) Chromatik (CMT)

Ashlee: Unsurprisingly heavy on offensive players, with Skara and Thakur both racing through the goals in the Mytanar Top League, Vetiver becoming a goal-scoring automaton for the Cormorants in the recent Copa Rushmori, and Wawanolett's wing play key to Chromatik, the #1 club in the world, winning the Red League title. But there's still room for defensive presence, with Astrid Swain having a fantastic season in the Zenith with the Coret Hawks at the right back position.

Alyssa: And the winner is...

Felixe Vetiver!

Felixe, a striker for 1830 Cathair and the Nepharan national team, was the runaway winner from our jury for the Testículiño Award for Best Young Player.

Jessika: Next up we have the manager of the year award (the trophy for which is disappointingly untesticular).

The nominees are:

Dan Eastwood (EUR) Raynor City United (VAL)
Pierre Renquin (VLD) Fontvielle Impact (VLD)
Lexus Ulreich (NPH) Aries Chariots (NPH)
Zhaxi Nanlei (YZH) Wirr Tsi (CMT)
Edis Znidarsic (MYT) Atletik (MYT)

Ashlee: Some familiar names here. Reflecting the emphasis on club football (or perhaps just the sheer power of Baker Park managers cancelling each other out) neither Kate DeMarini nor Pam Scott make the list despite taking national teams to the World Cup final. Raynor City United had another dominant season as Dan Eastwood continues to hold together one of the greatest assemblages of footballing talent on the planet.

Alyssa: Cough.

Ashlee: Planets, sorry. Lexus Ulreich took the Aries Chariots to the Champions League, Zhaxi Nanlei oversaw another Red League title for Wirr Tsi, and Edis Znidarsic's Atletik went to a cup final. The jury vote was much narrower this time, lots of deserving candidates. But the winner is the manager who took Fontvielle Impact to the Champions League title...

Pierre Renquin!

Jessika: And now, a special award, for the first time ever.

Alyssa: Aren't they all for the first time ever because last time we never actually did the final awards because our external hard drive got fried and we couldn't be bothered to redo the whole thing.

Jessika: For the first time ever, the Diamond Testículo. This is a Special Lifetime Achievement Award given to someone based, not just on the last cycle of fußballkickingindiegoljümpersfürgoalpostzspielball, but their entire career.

Ashlee: We've certainly seen this cycle that age is but a number. Nancy Puyo-Sachar continuing to play for Trebuchet Cham, Moumouni Verre’elali -- who debuted at World Cup 82 -- making a key defensive play in World Cup 92, and Meldi’ita Mungwaii pinging in goals for Arlington City at the age of 2658271574788448768043625811014615890319638528000000000.

Alyssa: ...I think it just said 44.

Ashlee: It said 44!, and 44 factorial is...

Jessika: Anyway, this time, we're choosing to honor someone who's already won just about every award going. All the way from youth football, winning the world youth and junior World Cups at U-18 and U-21 level, and then going on to win the senior World Cup. Playing in the most recent World Cup final at the age of 39. Congratulations to...

Wanda Kouyaté of Jungle Strike FC and the Banijan national team!

Wanda is presented with a wizened and wrinkly gray Testículo trophy.

Ashlee: And now, we come to the Testículos shortlist. Every play on the list is at the very top of international club football, but only 11 from them will be chosen as Testículos. Reflecting a general trend towards slightly increased squad size, and also my chronic inability to be concise, there will be 26 players on the shortlist, with two for every position plus an extra keeper, defender, midfielder, and forward.

the kettle sounds off time camera, this time, the sound of Jessika beating one of the production assistants to death with it

light applause

Alyssa: And now, the Testículos themselves.

Goalkeeper is a crowded position of course. Some very deserving nominees didn't quite make the shortlist, including three Chromatiks who made the longlonglist. From the shortlist, Kaede Akiyama conceded the fewest goals of any goalkeeper through qualifying for World Cup 92. Helen Pimbura is a World Cup winner with Zwangzug and enjoyed a fine domestic season with Canbix Muses. But the winner is...

Gunter Obermaier!

Gunther had a terrific season with Ulsa in the Euraleague. Interestingly he is not the starting goalkeeper for the Vanorian national team, but this award is based more on club play -- though Isak Helland also had a great season for Aleiusia Capital! Argh, decisions, decisions!

Jessika: At left-back...

Quentin Tormin!

Quentin was one of the best defenders in the Liga-1 in Valladares, and a lynchpin of the Champions League winning Fontvielle Impact. He beats exciting new talent Josué Degaray, who was perhaps unlucky not to be nominated in the Best Young Player category, but is definitely one to watch for the future.

And at right-back...

Tairu Conateh!

Right back proved one of the most fiercely contested spots in the whole team. Ana Mason of Spartangrad, Donovan Kim-Lumanyika of the Canalave Dragons, Ha’nei Ighv of Avenida Leal, Patrik Odonelec of CA Paulinthal, Astrid Swain of the Coret Hawks... all worthy contenders. But Tairu, judged the best right back in the Vanorian league, playing for the #2 ranked side in the world, and making the World Cup final with Banija, is this season's Testículo.

And now at center-back...

Stephen Kerr!

and

Meghna Imomenba!

Tropicorp veteran Moumouni Verre’elali, Mar Sara staple Louise Løvoll, and Arlington City stalwart Jenna Kowalski all exhausted our supply of nouns for "person who stands in the middle of the pitch looking well ard", but the looking well ardest of them were Kerr, who went from strength to strength with Tumbra and world ranked #1 side Chromatik, and Meghna "The Immobiliser" Imomenba, who was the defensive talisman of Zwangzug's World Cup victory and a key player for Namiri Forest.

Ashlee: Now we move on the midfield. We're going to start with the wings this time, and let's start with the left wing.

Græntfjaller audience boos and launches paramilitary counterinsurgency strikes on the stage.

Right wing, right wing is better, Ashlee hurriedly corrects.

At right-wing:

Lynne Crossley!

Stepping out of the shadow of Robin Vaughn, perhaps? Regardless of whether Crossley is the first choice for Tumbra, she definitely is for Strathcona Internationals, where she was named player of the season in the KFL, the 6th ranked league in the world. With her selection, Tumbra has a second Testículo.

And at left-wing:

Anne-Marie Roux!

Quite close on the jury panel this, with a lot of support for Dí Maozöxê's Lolong Bokate, and some confusion over Sara Kristoffersdóttir, who mainly plays on the wing for her national team, being listed in the center for Wirr Tsi -- but then with Loeher on the wing, I think Wirr Tsi have it covered! Roux was named Emerald Ball winner in Nephara after a fine season with Crisisbless, and helped Savigliane qualify for the World Cup.

Alyssa: Now the central midfielders. We didn't break these down by holding and attacking roles, though both were represented on the longlonglist.

At central midfield...

Kayla Haugen!

and...

Trudy Harrison!

Kayla led Zwangzug's midfield -- virtually the entire Zwangzug national team's midfield ended up being nominated, unsurprisingly in a World Cup winning year - but she was just as good for Trebuchet Cham. Sara Kristoffersdóttir played well for Wirr Tsi but was on a stacked roster, Hanna Suzuki was brilliant all over the field for Eintracht Trink, Kevin Martins led Fontvielle Impact to their CL title, and Farrokh Sokhi - another Zwangzug player - was the heart of Namiri Forest's midfield. Also selected is Trudy Harrison. She's the third Testículo for Tumbra and second for Chromatik.
Jessika: Finally we come to the strikers. Incredibly competitive, really, so many possible names to choose from. Even cutting the longlonglist down to the five on the shortlist took several drafts.

At striker...

Sophie Singh!

and...

Nii’arala Milaaso!

Sophie becomes the third Chromatik (FC) player to be named a Testículo, perhaps making up for the disappointment of being knocked out of the Copa Rushmori. She's joined by Vilita and Eastal Lunar megastar Nii’arala Milaaso who just couldn't stop scoring goals this season.

Ashlee: Before we move on to the final awards, let's run down the full list of Testículos:
Image

Three Tumbrans were represented, and two players from Zwangzug, plus one from each of Valanora, Banija, Valladares, Eura, Vilita, and Savigliane. Chromatik of, unsurprisingly, Chromatika's Red League, had three selections, and there were two players from Zwangzug's 1./ represented, 1 for each of Namiri Forest and Trebuchet Cham. With Fontvielle Impact (VLD), RCU (VAL), Ulsa (EUR), Strathcona Internationals (KSK), Crisisbless (NPH) and Eastal Lunar (VIL) being the other teams represented.

Alyssa: So now we move on to the Testículo. Starting with the 3rd place bronze trophy...

Trudy Harrison!

Harrison's rise to midfield stardom with Chromatika, despite playing the "unsexy" role of holding midfielder behind the creative talents all over the pitch for the stacked Chromatik roster, has also seen become a regular for the Tumbran national team, currently ranked in the top 10 sides in the world.

Jessika: The silver award, for the runner-up, goes to...

Nii’arala Milaaso!

Perhaps the best player in the deeply stacked Vilitan League, a regular goalscorer for the Vilitan national team, and inexplicably pronounced perfectly by a character who is canonically terrible at pronouncing things, Milaaso's magic seems to extend even off the field.

lights dim

emergency anti-kraken lighting immediately starts back up

Ashlee: And now, the Testículo de Oro for the (completely unofficial) best player in the world.

It's...

Kayla Haugen!

Many congratulations to Haugen, of Zwangzug and Trebuchet Cham. She is presented with an enormous gold version of the trophy as biodegradable confetti rains down.

Alyssa: Thank you, that concludes the Testículos for this cycle. Sorry to everyone who didn't win, but bear in mind that a) that applies to literally every single person in the universe bar one and b) these awards don't matter anyway.

Off stage, Kayla is being informed there is indeed no cash prize, just a lump of metal that looks like a hideously cancerous gonad spray-painted in garish gold leaf.

We hope you enjoyed them and that at the very least they gave you something to argue about, and if we make it out of here alive, we'll try to come back and do the same next cycle!

-fin-

There is a method to this, although it probably doesn't follow the same exact working as the Galacticos used to. Generally more weight is given to the top World Cup teams, and top IFCF teams and leagues. Things like league awards are taken into account (indeed, they are very helpful) but are not the be-all and end-all.

The Beaucester Gazette
Division 2 Roundup - Joy for Transvers, Tears in Campeto
Transvers and Estdalle outclass the opposition

There was delight in the west and the east, as Sporting Transvers and Estdalle make their division 1 returns at the end of a season they both dominated. Both return after 2 and 1 year away respectively, leaving some questioning whether an expansion of the first division is required given the yo-yoing ongoing between the two divisions. Down the bottom and Campeto Victoria, the sole current representative of the nation's 4th largest town or city in the top two divisions, sunk meekly towards the end of the season despite a decent playing budget.

From the very start of the season, Transvers and Estdalle made their intent clear, making light work of inferior opposition. Both burst out of the traps with 3-0 opening day wins over poor opposition in Epvalle and Senon, clearly establishing the credentials for promotion from the very start of the season. The squads both looked more in place in division 1, certainly superior to those circling the drain there. Whilst Estdalle had the league's standout performers in Best and Headley on the wings, who led the lead in goals and assists respectively, Sporting Transvers had the most cohesion as the team, with the goals shared. However, Marinos, debuting at just 15 in central midfield, and 19 year old Ferrari on the wing they had a certain youthful flavour to the team.

Whilst Sporting Transvers were consistent across the season, Estdalle initially faltered. Estdalle made up only 13 points over the first 10 games, at which point manager Don Beaton was jacked in for Carmen Marchini, previously manager at the Scolastico academy. Estdalle's season turned on a dime here, ten straight wins followed, with veteran winger Anna Maria Headley looking the star for the team, dropping towards midfield to aid them to control games. Villemont had looked the most likely to disrupt the top 2, having come down last season they still have a decent core of players, but they struggled to adapt to the second tier. They remain far too dependent on their centre-backs and goalkeeper being in form to keep the goals out and never found a consistent run of form. Despite this they'll be confident of fighting next season, 15 year old tyro Pietro Abbatangelo coming good on the wings looking like he could act as their inspiration as they mature.

Down the bottom of the table, and Campeto Victoria sunk down to the third tier, leaving the nation's 4th largest settlement in danger of having no representative in the top two divisions. Compared to the teams around them, they have decent players, Brandie Denzil upfront and Milan Alton at the back could well play for a division 1 club one day, but the system simply does not work. Reliant on amateurish structures, the team couldn't draft decent reinforcements in January, couldn't stick to a decent manager and couldn't organise to get the best out of their two stars. Denzil scoring 19 out of their 27 total goals shows just how badly the rest of the team struggled.

Grateful for their struggles were Senon and Torbrek, two teams with small fanbases who struggled for form across the season. Senon's 36 points was deeply unimpressive, but with Victoria listing badly, they were home and hosed with a game to spare as they limped over the line.

Overall, as a division it remains painfully obvious that too many teams are only a scratch above amateur, making a mockery of the league's desire to professionalise the third tier as well. At the top, those lucky enough to experience the drip down wealth from the 1st Division were able to cruise back to the top table, with a band of clubs above them having enough wealth from previous forays to maintain a handful of genuinely decent players. Of these though, we have to ask if any can overcome Villemont, FC Campina and, for all their issues, AS Catamouge next season.

The Beaucester Gazette
Division 3 Roundup - Joy in Sablegaard
Meridionale Up, Campeto Denied

Michelakakis took about 30 minutes to return from the stands for the trophy presentation. Meridionale had managed to fill their end of Sallust Park, who along with their Indipendiente opponents had conspired to produce an atmosphere far more exciting than I have previously experienced at a domestic match. No one wanted to bring him down, the young central midfielder had put in an imperious 120 plus minutes to secure, for the first time, a place in the second tier.

This game came at the end of a long season where only three clubs showed any real desire to push up into the professional tiers. It was the first time there would be entry to the second tier without being elected by league members, but this only seemed to produce interest in Campeto, a large town lacking a big club, and with Meridionale, a well-run and resourced club in Sablegaard. Campeto's Indipendiente had come into this game after a harder season, pushed all the way by their cross town rivals, the Macchinisti.

So, first, Sablegaard's joy. Meridionale have long been a large amateur club, routed in their community and long hoping to collect the resources together to turn the seaside town into a true 2 team town, like Diepfleet. Of their players, several had a breakout season in front of expanded crowds. Promisingly for the club, their two breakout stars are both on the right side of their peak years. Michelakakis' domination of midfield in the play-off was the culmination of an excellent season, seeing him perfect a mixture of controlled short range passing and persistent tracking and tackling of his opposite numbers, and leading to his side cruising to win the Western division with a 22 point buffer. On the wing, Jennings also had an excellent season, sometimes turning games with her line breaking dribbles and incisive passing. With only 7 goals from the season, she isn't garnering the attention of bigger clubs yet, but will be a potent weapon for them in division 2.

The season came to its denoument in Mosfleet, Meridionale and Indipendiente packing out AS Samita's Sallust Park. Indipendiente had a much tougher season, the Macchinisti pushed them hard and it took until May for them to sow up top place, with a tense draw against Estfleet. Indipendiente had their fair share of break out stars, none more than 16 year old maestro De Angelis in attacking midfield. In a tense and tactical encounter, a 0-0 draw was fought out by full time, with Michelakakis marshalling De Angelis excellently, as well as providing plenty of control in the engine room to keep things level. A goal apiece came from set pieces in extra time, before penalties. With the pressure on, both key midfielders dispatched theirs, but with Meridionale 4-3 up and one left to take for Indipendiente, the ball was tamely kicked just to the left for the keeper to paddle away. Meridionale up, Indipendiente forlorn.

The result is significant in leaving us without a team from Campeto in the top 2 divisions. It remains the biggest town to never have had a top division club, and is now the 4th largest settlement on the island, with more people than Catamouge now, behind only Mosfleet, Beaucester and Diepfleet. There is clearly a demand for football in the town, and the three clubs all have decent gates. Rumours are abounding that Independiente and Macchinisti might end up merging, but it remains to be seen if the league will allow this. Locally there remains much support, with a lack of real needle in local derbies.

Division 3 will be interesting next season, there's clearly talent there, and the professionalisation of the environment might encourage some academy products to be loaned out down the divisions. An increasing spread of talent, and a higher quality product for those following the third tier, can only be a good thing.
